How did you attract/address
your audience?
 When it came to addressing my target audience, I decided to take
inspiration from Kerrang whilst constructing my magazine as its genre
of rock is similar to my music magazines. Kerrang‟s approach attracts
the same type of audience that my music magazine „Pitch‟ wanted
to attract, so this allowed me to base the structure and content of my
pages on this music magazine. Kerrang addresses their audience by
not using too much of an elaborated code, their language style is
very casual so that they are able to attract this specific age range
seen as their intellectual ability isn‟t as strong as an adult seen as the
majority of there target audience are teenagers. But the language
code isn‟t restricted too much due to the fact they are in their
adolescent years which means that they are in the process of
developing from a child into an adult. Also they have used this
language code as this specific age range tend to prefer this
language style as it feels more welcoming and relaxed. Kerrang's
reader profile tells us that the average age of their target audience is
23 years old.
 My target audience are 16-25 year olds who are predominantly
males, therefore using a similar approach to kerrang! would be highly
effective. All Kerrang‟s products are eye- catching and present the
correct mode of address so I tried to portray these particular aspects
in my music magazine Pitch and I believe I have achieved this.
 .
FRONT COVER
Firstly, in order to make my music magazines front cover eye-catching to my
target audience, I decided to use a bold font for my masthead. The
conventional colour scheme of my music magazine allows the front cover of
Pitch to stand out seen as the colours included in my colour scheme; red, white,
black and yellow, are all complementary allowing each colour to stand out
bright and intensely.
I decided to use this image of the band because I believe that it represents their
age and their social group effectively through their gaze, body language and
their costumes which also still relates to the genre of the magazine. The three
band members in the photograph are males within my target audience age
range. As my questionnaire results show, my target audience favour a male
group. I have also tried to use similar clothing to other bands modelled on the
front cover of music magazines which share the same genre as mine (e.g
kerrang), I did this so that the band 'Rage City' represent the same fashion style
that fits with the audiences preferences. This image helps to relate the band
'Rage City' to the audience and their social group, showing that the magazine
understands them, which allows the audience to trust the magazine, therefore
sale figures will increase. The image allows my audience to connect to the
magazine.
The language I‟ve used on my front cover is very conventional of a music
magazine. I have used words such as „Exclusive‟ and „Plus‟ their aim was to
entice the reader in by the use of exaggeration. My music magazine „Pitch‟
makes my target audience feel connected to the magazine seen as I have
included the technique of having questions embedded in my sell lines e.g “Can
they survive Blink‟s new success?” This allows my music magazine to address my
target audience directly and make my audience feel like they are being spoken
to by Pitch.
From my research I learnt that the main importance of the pug is to get the
readers attention for some specific reason, they are normally advertisements or
competitions. I decided to use my pug as an advertisement for a seven day rock
guide which is included in the magazine this way it ensures that I get the
attention of my young target audience, seen as they‟re interested in live gigs.
CONTENTS PAGE
On my contents page I have included the feature of an Editors letter, so that
my contents page is able to address my target audience directly, which
resultantly makes my target audience feel connected to my music magazine
much more deeply. I have also included the feature of an Editors letter as it
allows a relationship to be made between the magazine and the reader. It
allows the reader to familiarise themselves to the editor and the editors
personality. In my Editors letter I used a variety of dialogue that makes the
reader trust the music magazine e.g “I promise you that you‟re not going to be
disappointed” this effectively makes the reader feel closer to the magazine as
a whole, so therefore addresses my target audience fully.
I also included a web address to show that 'Pitch' is a multi-platform brand and
so that the magazine looks professional. By making the web address present on
the page 'Pitch' is able to attract it's target audience seen as they're
technophiles and are interested in new technology.
I decided to include female artists and female band members in my subsidiary
images on my contents page so that my music magazine 'Pitch' also appeals to
females. I believe that using a mix of genders, makes my music
magazine appealing to both males and females, making sure that it addresses
my target audience fully. But since my music magazine is predominately
targeting males my main story is based on the boy band „Rage City‟ so that it is
able to address this social group to its full potential. I believe that this image of
the band „Rage City‟ works well on the contents page because it shows that
they are willing to open up throughout the magazine, which is identified by
their casual body language, this helps to attract the target audience as they
know that the information in the article will be genuine.
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
The main way that I addressed my target audience in my written
article was through the mode of address. Even though I used a third
person interview, I still believe that my written article was able to
attract my target audience due to the use of pull quotes
embedded into my article. The pull quotes allowed my article to
have a more casual language style seen as it included informal
vocabulary such as the phrase “we are all bricking it to be honest”.
This casual language style attracts my target audience seen as
teenagers tend to prefer informal vocabulary as it feels more
welcoming and relaxed. Also my article is able to attract my target
audience seen as it keeps to a specific language code that isn't
too elaborate seen as their intellectual ability isn't as strong as an
adult. This makes sure that my target audience are able to read my
written article regardless of the differences between their
intellectual ability.
I believe that this article can attract my target audience seen as
they are interested in new artists/bands music and are also
interested in gigs which is featured inside my article.
I also repeated the web address throughout the music magazine to
ensure that my target audience are fully aware that Pitch is a multi-
platform brand. This appeals to my target audience seen as they
are technophiles and it represents the increasing demand for new
technology in the magazine industry therefore my magazine looks
realistic as possible.
The image of the band „Rage City‟ has a rock like feel which is
created by their pose and due to the fact that the band member
that is positioned at the front has a real life band top on which
allows the image to appeal to the reader.

How did you attract/address your audience?

  • 2.  When it came to addressing my target audience, I decided to take inspiration from Kerrang whilst constructing my magazine as its genre of rock is similar to my music magazines. Kerrang‟s approach attracts the same type of audience that my music magazine „Pitch‟ wanted to attract, so this allowed me to base the structure and content of my pages on this music magazine. Kerrang addresses their audience by not using too much of an elaborated code, their language style is very casual so that they are able to attract this specific age range seen as their intellectual ability isn‟t as strong as an adult seen as the majority of there target audience are teenagers. But the language code isn‟t restricted too much due to the fact they are in their adolescent years which means that they are in the process of developing from a child into an adult. Also they have used this language code as this specific age range tend to prefer this language style as it feels more welcoming and relaxed. Kerrang's reader profile tells us that the average age of their target audience is 23 years old.  My target audience are 16-25 year olds who are predominantly males, therefore using a similar approach to kerrang! would be highly effective. All Kerrang‟s products are eye- catching and present the correct mode of address so I tried to portray these particular aspects in my music magazine Pitch and I believe I have achieved this.  .
  • 3. FRONT COVER Firstly, in order to make my music magazines front cover eye-catching to my target audience, I decided to use a bold font for my masthead. The conventional colour scheme of my music magazine allows the front cover of Pitch to stand out seen as the colours included in my colour scheme; red, white, black and yellow, are all complementary allowing each colour to stand out bright and intensely. I decided to use this image of the band because I believe that it represents their age and their social group effectively through their gaze, body language and their costumes which also still relates to the genre of the magazine. The three band members in the photograph are males within my target audience age range. As my questionnaire results show, my target audience favour a male group. I have also tried to use similar clothing to other bands modelled on the front cover of music magazines which share the same genre as mine (e.g kerrang), I did this so that the band 'Rage City' represent the same fashion style that fits with the audiences preferences. This image helps to relate the band 'Rage City' to the audience and their social group, showing that the magazine understands them, which allows the audience to trust the magazine, therefore sale figures will increase. The image allows my audience to connect to the magazine. The language I‟ve used on my front cover is very conventional of a music magazine. I have used words such as „Exclusive‟ and „Plus‟ their aim was to entice the reader in by the use of exaggeration. My music magazine „Pitch‟ makes my target audience feel connected to the magazine seen as I have included the technique of having questions embedded in my sell lines e.g “Can they survive Blink‟s new success?” This allows my music magazine to address my target audience directly and make my audience feel like they are being spoken to by Pitch. From my research I learnt that the main importance of the pug is to get the readers attention for some specific reason, they are normally advertisements or competitions. I decided to use my pug as an advertisement for a seven day rock guide which is included in the magazine this way it ensures that I get the attention of my young target audience, seen as they‟re interested in live gigs.

CONTENTS PAGE On my contents page I have included the feature of an Editors letter, so that my contents page is able to address my target audience directly, which resultantly makes my target audience feel connected to my music magazine much more deeply. I have also included the feature of an Editors letter as it allows a relationship to be made between the magazine and the reader. It allows the reader to familiarise themselves to the editor and the editors personality. In my Editors letter I used a variety of dialogue that makes the reader trust the music magazine e.g “I promise you that you‟re not going to be disappointed” this effectively makes the reader feel closer to the magazine as a whole, so therefore addresses my target audience fully. I also included a web address to show that 'Pitch' is a multi-platform brand and so that the magazine looks professional. By making the web address present on the page 'Pitch' is able to attract it's target audience seen as they're technophiles and are interested in new technology. I decided to include female artists and female band members in my subsidiary images on my contents page so that my music magazine 'Pitch' also appeals to females. I believe that using a mix of genders, makes my music magazine appealing to both males and females, making sure that it addresses my target audience fully. But since my music magazine is predominately targeting males my main story is based on the boy band „Rage City‟ so that it is able to address this social group to its full potential. I believe that this image of the band „Rage City‟ works well on the contents page because it shows that they are willing to open up throughout the magazine, which is identified by their casual body language, this helps to attract the target audience as they know that the information in the article will be genuine.
  • 5. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD The main way that I addressed my target audience in my written article was through the mode of address. Even though I used a third person interview, I still believe that my written article was able to attract my target audience due to the use of pull quotes embedded into my article. The pull quotes allowed my article to have a more casual language style seen as it included informal vocabulary such as the phrase “we are all bricking it to be honest”. This casual language style attracts my target audience seen as teenagers tend to prefer informal vocabulary as it feels more welcoming and relaxed. Also my article is able to attract my target audience seen as it keeps to a specific language code that isn't too elaborate seen as their intellectual ability isn't as strong as an adult. This makes sure that my target audience are able to read my written article regardless of the differences between their intellectual ability. I believe that this article can attract my target audience seen as they are interested in new artists/bands music and are also interested in gigs which is featured inside my article. I also repeated the web address throughout the music magazine to ensure that my target audience are fully aware that Pitch is a multi- platform brand. This appeals to my target audience seen as they are technophiles and it represents the increasing demand for new technology in the magazine industry therefore my magazine looks realistic as possible. The image of the band „Rage City‟ has a rock like feel which is created by their pose and due to the fact that the band member that is positioned at the front has a real life band top on which allows the image to appeal to the reader.
