2. My individual costume designs:
I have drawn drafts of the characters
costume designs, so that it is easier to
show my initial ideas on paper. These
designs may not be the finalised
costume designs for our film trailer
Cloven, however they do accurately
reflect how me and my group believe
our characters should be perceived.
3. These are my initial costume designs created for each character. The
designs are labelled according to the characters name. Over all I felt that
the costumes of the characters should be kept gloomy and dull to reflect
the genre of the film trailer. Horror films stereotypically keep bright colours
to a minimum to represent their film plot which is very dark and sinister. I
tried to reflect each characters personality and style through their costume
design, for example Marcus is supposed to be the tough alpha male of the
group so initially we thought that he should wear shorts and a t-shirt to
represent his masculinity as he doesn't care about catching the cold. Also
we believed that this style of clothing would represent his stereotype of
being a "jock."
Even though stereotypically horror films contain dark, dull and gloomy
costumes, I decided to design Hayley's costume a little bit brighter. I did
this so that the audience could easily recognise the fact that the only two
females within the group are in total contrast to one another. Hayley is
outgoing, kind and girly whereas Sam is shy, unsociable and tom boyish.
The fact that Sam is wearing dark clothing shows that she's not as
confident as Hayley. The dark clothing of Sam also creates a code of
enigma, the audience want to find out why she is so different to most
normal girls and is she the vulnerable target of the demonic entity due to
her inverted personality.
4. I have decided to design Vinnies Costume so that he is dressed very
casual and not within the camping theme. I have done this so that it
reflects the fact that he is the outsider of the group. It shows that Vinnie
doesn’t turn up fully equipped for camping and seems to be not
included within the groups plans. He is wearing denim jeans and a
leather jacket which isn’t very sensible clothing for camping which
shows that he is uninvolved and just tags along with everybody’s
plans.
Ben’s costume design is very much like Marcus’s reflecting a typical
teenage boy showing their masculinity. However Ben’s costume
reflects that he is much more sensible than Marcus as he is wearing a
coat. This costume design also reflects his personality seen as he is
sporty and smart.
Over all I have tried to keep each costume design within the camping
theme, however I decided to dress each character a tad more casual
than the normal camping attire seen as they are a group of teenagers
which are a lot more laid back than your average camper.
