2. 11/26/1920-1/24/2012
He grew up in Duluth Minnesota,
raised by his grandma. As an 18 year old
he joined the Navy, he was part of some
of the greatest fleets on the world, and
history. World war 2, Vietnam war and
Northern Atlantic war just some of his
big mile stones, after serving our
country for many years and tours he
joined the Merchant Seaman.
3. On December 7th, 1941 he was on a
Navy tank ship entering Pearl
Harbor, when over the loud
speakers of the ship they heard
"The Japs hit! The Japs hit! Turn
around" They were quickly sent on
a mission to join in the alliance and
attack Japan. Thomas is on the far

4. Klassen after it crashed into the bridge
Picture of him and some ship mates in front of the Franz Klassen in North
Atlantic, his Navy ship had captured a German Tanker the Franz Klassen, the
night the German subs sank 54 of the Navy's 96 convoy ships. They were very
lucky to have made it through the Northern Atlantic war when so many did not,
his Navy ship carried high test airplanes, and this picture was from Ireland in 1943.
My grandpa Thomas James McNeally was the ships bosun which means he was in
charge of the Franz Klassen. The Franz Klassen was well known tanker which
destroyed the Chesapeake City Bridge on July 28,

6. My grandpa is in the middle on the
camel, this great picture was taken
in the Valley of the Kings, in Egypt.
This was one of the most
fascinating stories he ever told me,
this was right outside of King Tuts
Tomb. He told me of how the
Egyptian people were friendly and
he seen many things and had one of
the greatest adventures of his time.
7. The men who served on this
ship received a letter from
James Forrestal the last
Cabinet-level United States
Secretary of the Navy and the
first United States Secretary of
Defense. He did not send
many letters out but after the
great strides that the USS
Enterprise CV6 made he sent a
letter to the men. Below is a
picture of the letter he sent my
grandpa.
