Introduction:
Help! We need your help to savelives. Every year thousands of individuals get
injured due to firerelated causes. Most injuries aredue to house fires. Most house
fires start in thekitchen. You will pretend that you area firefighter and you haveto
provideyour parents with tips for good kitchen firesafety.
2. Task:
Firefighters help saves lives. You aregoing to havea part in helping save lives. You
aregoing to createa brochuretelling and showing good firesafety tips for the
kitchen. After you finish making thebrochure, you will takethebrochurehomeand
giveit to your parents/guardians and tell them what you learned about firesafety in
thekitchen.

Together, in groups of four, you aregoing to visit several websites containing good

for thevideo. You will takenotes in your groups on thewebsiteinformation and the
video. Wewill cometogether as a class to discuss what needs to bedonein the
3. kitchen to practicegood firesafety. You will complete a worksheet that I will provide.
Theworksheet will bea pictureof a kitchen showing good and bad habits in the
kitchen. You will identify what needs to bedonedifferently in thekitchen or what is
an exampleof good firesafety in thekitchen. After you completetheworksheet, you
will createa brochurewith examples of good kitchen firesafety. You will get your
information from your notes that you took on thewebsites, videos, and our class
discussion.
Evaluation:
You will begraded on your notes. You must haveat least a half pageof notes (5
points). You will begraded on thecompletion of your worksheet. You must haveat
least 5 correct answers on theworksheet to receive full credit (15 points). If you can
find moreerrors within thepicturethen you will receiveextra credit. You will also be
graded upon thecompletion of your brochure(25 points). You must havefivefire
4. safety kitchen tips listed in your brochure. You must havea picturedrawn for each
example. Pictures must havecolor.
**Remember make your brochurecolorful so that individuals would pick it up and
read it if they saw it somewhere**
