2. Confidentiality
Confidentiality is the act of keeping
information private. A patient relays
information to a doctor with the expectation
that the information will remain private. It is
the basis of a doctor patient relationship.
3. Training
• Concepts
Keep personal information private and secure. The patient
trusts a doctor to keep their information private. A violation
of that trust can ruin the reputation of the doctor and bring
more serious punishments for a privacy breach. When a
patient believes that the information they give to the doctor
will be kept private, they will freely communicate about their
medical problems.
• Uses
To ensure the hospitals compliance, patient’s medical
records must be kept in a secure location that is only
accessible to authorized personnel.
4. Training
• Laws and Regulations
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
this law ensures that the patients identifiable information is
kept confidential. It contains the information about getting
into compliance how to report a infraction to the law and
the disciplinary actions that can be taken for a breach of
this law.
• Hospital policy
Requirements to keep in compliance with HIPAA. Training
required. Procedures to report an infraction. Zero tolerance
policy. Whistleblower protection.
5. Effectiveness
• Repetition
Once a month training would be a good way of getting the
hospital staff on board with HIPAA. Hearing about it once a
month will ensure that the staff will make this policy second
nature when dealing with private information.
• New Hires
New staff will receive the training before they start their
duties at the hospital.
• Training Record
All staff will be required to sign a training form
acknowledging that they received the training.
