2. Rationale
The Department of Education states that varied
distance learning modality is imposed to all schools in
order to guarantee the safety and health of the learners.
During the implementation of the distance learning
modality, it is observed that some Grade 7 English learners
of Bulahan Integrated School did not perform some of the
tasks and activities from the answer sheets were not
answered which resulted to low scores.
3. Rationale
One of the distance learning modalities is the utilization
of video lessons. Several meta-analyses have shown that
technology can enhance learning and multiple studies have
shown that video, specifically, can be a highly effective
educational tool. With this, the learners will not only learn
through modular learning modality but also through video
lessons for them to easily grasp the knowledge and
improve their academic performance in English.
4. Research Questions
1. Is there a significant difference between the academic
performance of students with and without the said
intervention?
2. Did the intervention improve the performance of the
students?
5. Innovation, Strategy and Intervention
The following are proposed intervention of the
study:
1) A video lesson that corresponds with the lesson found in the SLM
for the week was made.
2) The participants were given the SLM and answer sheet for the
week.
3) After returning it, the same SLM was given but the participants
were provided with the video lesson made.
4) Video lesson is accessible on the school Facebook Page and
Messenger group chats.
5) To those who didn’t have access to the internet, the video was
sent offline via Bluetooth and other sharing apps.
6. Action Research Method
a.) Participants
Fifteen (15) Grade 7 learners of Bulahan
Integrated School were the participants in the study.
7. Action Research Method
b.) Data Gathering Method
The researcher used the descriptive – comparative
method where the research itself compared two
variables which is the pretest and post-test of
students after the use of the video lesson. Descriptive
was used in getting the mean of the test results of
the Grade 7 students.
8. Table 1
Mean Score of Pretest and Post-test using the video lesson
Table 1 shows the results of the pre-test and post-test of the 15
respondents in the 15-item test conducted by the researcher before and
after the utilization of video lesson.
The Table 1 clearly reflects that there was a remarkable increase in the
Mean of pretest of the respondents after the utilization of video lesson.
This is a clear indication that the utilization of video lesson is effective in
improving the performance of the students.
