2. Overview: Students rate their knowledge of
specific terms prior to & after learning new
math content.
1=Never heard of the word
2=Seen or heard of the term
3=I think I know the term
4=I know and can use the term
3. Steps
1. Introduce words by reading aloud.
2. While reading words to class, pause and have students repeat each one.
3. Provide students with VKR organizer.
4. Students rate their knowledge using 4-point scale. Students add numbers up for
total rating.
5. During the unit, students reflect on initial ratings and how their understanding of
the vocabulary has changed.
6. After completing the unit, students again rate their knowledge of the vocabulary
and compare the final rating to the intial rating.
