Analysis Of Tick Tock By Brian Eno
Tick Tock is an ambient piece of music that was made as a direct influence of Brian Eno's four part
ambient series of albums. 2/1 in particularly from Music for Airports is a reference for the aesthetics
of the sound design in the song which has a lot of darkened textures and is almost lullaby–esque in
nature. A lot of randomness is often found within the ambient genre as a piece is meant to
demonstrate an ever evolving state. This is hard to express in a one minute piece however, so a
constant tempo was decided upon for the piece. To introduce some kind of randomness into it, the
vocal part begins playing on different beats through–out the evolution of the music. Minimalist
music had a massive influence of Eno's music and I also wanted to take the aesthetics of that genre
and try to apply it into my music. As a result of this, only using the three selected sounds allowed
me to avoid overcrowding the piece which isn't meant to be imposing in nature i.e. background
music.
The sound is derived from a vocal part saying tick tock and heavily laden with a clear long hall
reverb to give a huge depth to the voice. A slight delay on the voice is introduced halfway through
the piece to represent the ever evolving state in ambient music. The piano sound is a grand piano
mixed with a long hall reverb with a soft attack and medium long release to produce a dream like
characteristic as well as provide a deeper spacial texture to the soundscape. The third sound was a

The play 'Translations' is set in a Gaelic–speaking, Hedge school in Northern Ireland, 1833. Brian
Friel explores the modernization affect individuals and communities that occurred as a result of the
conquering English language. He examines how language shapes reality, whilst questioning the
assumption that any two people can share the same reality; ideas can be translated between cultures
without necessarily being altered. The play offers a parable about the fate of a parochial attitude for
those who are not familiar with Irish history. Brain Friel is considered to be "concerned with the
nuances of both personal and cultural–national identity and its relation to colonial dispossession,
issues of home, language, tradition...' (Bertha 2006, 154). Friel writes a story of how one nation lost
its language, culture and literature as a result of being conquered by another. He explores the
reasons behind this loss and the ways in which society can overcome this sense of isolation.

originally from Boston, but he moved to Southern California when he was seventeen (Wikipedia,
2003). While in California, he became popular for his country guitar playing. At the same time, he

intrigued by the spirit of the surf culture, and the splendor of the ocean waves. He began

on and survived. Walls communicated through her book, the message strength is gained from
overcoming the obstacles life puts in front of you using descriptions, symbolism, character's actions
and personification, To begin, through the description and symbolization of the Joshua tree, Walls
depicts her message. Walls' description of the tree was that it was, "scraggly and freakish,
permanently stuck in its twisted, tortured position" (35). Through this quote the reader has an
understanding of how because of the natural elements, such as wind and rain, the tree becomes a
deformed more flawed version of itself. Her mother, however, believes that, "It's the Joshua tree's
struggle that gives it its beauty" (38). This description combined with Walls' makes the Joshua tree a
symbol for Walls herself. She is a mentally and physically scarred human being. The tree is stronger
than the wind and instead of being uprooted, it adapts to what the earth sends to. Similarly, Walls

My Experience In My Life
I remember my parents calling me up an hour before midnight telling me that they would be coming
home late from work. That was how I grew up my entire life until I entered high school. As an
immigrant family, my parents had to run the extra mile to provide for our family. I was the oldest of
my family. Therefore, I had to step up as the mother figure and to take care of my younger brother.
Sometimes, my friends would ask me to hang out with them or to come over my house. My answer
was no most of the time. I had a younger brother in the house who needed my help with his
homework. He couldn't feed himself so I had to feed him. I remember putting him to sleep one night
and just asking myself why I had to do this. I wanted to hang out with my friends and act like a
child that I was. I was an eleven–year–old who had to grow up because of the circumstances. And I
did not like that. As time passed by, my parents were settling in to this new surrounding and they
began to take some of their time off from work to spend time with me and my brother. Even then,

McCarthy's novel, Blood Meridian, is an interesting story about a boy who grows up in the chaos of

McCarthy includes violence and barbarism as a natural part of who we are as humans. The
protagonist, the kid, grew up with a father who was a drunken teacher who did not care for him or
teach him how to read or write. The kid was not taken care of, wasn't shown love, and wasn't given
love; therefore he did not know how to care or what being taken care of was. In the very first pages

The gang and the judge seem to be killing for economic incentives and personal pleasure, which the
kid partakes in but then eventually grows out of. The kid's and the reader's attention and
development for compassion, care, or basic morality develop as McCarthy draws attention to the

fundamental level of things. Politically I do agree that war is god. The power of coercion is ultimate
and paramount to any other for of power. For example, if I wanted a dollar from another person who
did not want to give it to me, I could try to persuade them or bribe them, but if that doesn't work, my
ability to over–power them, and hurt them will ultimately force them to acquiesce. However this
ideology of "war is god" spiritually and mentally is detrimental to the development of compassion,
care, or any kind of moral development. This is where the audience and the kid begin to see a stark
difference between themselves and the judge. Although McCarthy doesn't reveal how the kid came
about a sense of compassion or care or the power if goodness, he does highlight the power of
violence. I think that McCarthy believes and has hope in humanity, as displayed through the moral
development of the kid, but I think he also understands and is trying to display the nature of

Out of all the amazing things I saw in the Pearls on a String, the one that I found the most
interesting was Akbar and 'Abd al–Rahim, from the Akabarmana (Book of Akabr, 1586–1589). It is

Although I did not study the other pages as intensely as this one, it is clear to see that Abul Fazlt's
technique is spectacular throughout each and every page. This painting is historical, depicting a
young Abdul Rahim Khan–I–Khana being received by Akbar after his family was killed. A great
story is told throughout the entire book, although this particular image has more of an intensity to it.
This page functions as a devotional image in order to display the emotional trauma 'Abd al–Rahim
must have felt having all that he knew dragged from under him. This occurrence after royal
bloodshed subsequently sets a mood for the piece. Some of the painting is hard to depict, due to
some men appearing respectful and embracing while others appeared with contempt. This page is
taller than wide with a beautiful background paper designs. The placement of the piece is
harmonious in every way possible. In paying attention to the placement more emphasis is put onto
the central area of the painting. The frame compliments the shape of the piece allowing it to bring
your focus back after the eye wanders around

The first example of religious symbolic language is presented in the bridge of the song, to which
Mercury sings "Bismillah", which is the first word recited in the Quran. The use of Bismillah allows
the Muslim audience to understand "the old Mercury", and that it will always be a part of him. The
other use of religious symbolic language is present in the lyric "Beelzebub has a devil put aside for
me". The lyric suggests that Mercury is referring to himself as being possessed by a demon and
addressing the view of being considered sinful due to his sexual orientation, implying that God

In Our Stars, uses dialogue to elaborate on the theme of being there for someone through the good

Love has been called "you" and "me" referring to the two lovers (line 17). Personification of love
has given it a significant presence. Love makes a lover feel imprisoned in the jail of love (line 18).
In other words, love keeps you go back to your lover again and again. Even when the two lovers are
physically separated from each other, they can feel the presence of love in their lives (line 19). The
feeling of love is so great that it doesn't know any bounds. It transcends all boundaries of physical
existence and makes the person feel the presence of their beloved even they are not close to them.

There are Canadian citizens who thought that the Canadian government we have is perfect, citizens
who believed that every aspect of the government was truly democratic, and citizens who believe
that government could do no wrong. Truly this group of believers has been living a lie. In our
Canadian system of government, large aspects within are far from democratic and need to be
changed. Liberal–minded people will cry out for a change in order for government to serve the
people better, and on the other hand the more conservative thinkers will argue that no change is

It was obvious that he would make votes in favour of Chretien's aims. However, even with his
appointed position he only very rarely showed up for work, ignoring his basic obligations as
Senator. Even when the whole of the government was in outrage at this incompetence, they could
not legally kick him out of office. There will inevitably be more incidents like these unless the
Senate is reformed. Thankfully, there are several possible ways to reform the Senate as to make it a
more democratic institute.
The Senate, undemocratic as it is, obviously needs some tweaks and changes in the system to make
it more so. The Canadian Senate should reform entirely into a triple–E Senate (Elected, Efficient,
Equal). In the Triple E Senate, Senators should be elected by the voters instead of appointed, the
efficient distribution of power towards the Senate to balance out the power. This would create a
more democratic and fairer Senate that would better serve the needs of the citizens it represents.
While the Triple–E Senate may not get things done nearly as quickly as the current Senate, it would
at least make the right decisions for everyone. While the Senate is a major blight upon Canadian
government, it is not the only one.

Issues concerning Articles 34,35 or 36 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union
