2. In the heart Miami, Miami Springs is a small
community that has several places that take
your breath away. The golf course located
there is beautiful. The city has many
activities and festivals which the community
supports and enjoys.
3. The school that I chose to do the in-service
hours with is Miami Springs Elementary
School. It is located in the heart of Miami
Springs.
The cooperating teacher is named Janice
Pacheco and has been a teacher for twenty-
three years. The classroom is one of four
kindergarten classrooms and there is a mix of
different ethnic groups (FEAP 5),
Hispanic being the largest group.
4. The activities that I was mainly involved in was
story/reading time. The teacher would have me
pull a small group of children to help them
develop their reading (FEAP 1-f-3,4),
phonological awareness skills (FEAP 1).
I also read them stories and helped them
practice their spelling words(FEAP 1) and worked
with their computer skills (FEAP 4,f).
The children were influenced by my presence
and made my involvement with them easy. They
were enthusiastic about learning and it gave me
the privileged of helping them with their skills.
5. My reaction to the activities and overall
experience was educational, delightful, and
encouraging.
It was educational in the fact that I learned
several ways or tactics of teaching to
difficult students and behavioral problems. It
was delightful because Mrs. Pacheco is a
wonderful teacher showing her patience with
all the students. It was encouraging because
it affirmed my calling to the educational
profession. I love what I do.
