essay, the piece that spoke to me personally and emotionally was The Oxbow, painted by the artist

hiking with my daughter whenever possible, so I truly appreciate the recognition of natures' beauty

American wilderness, specifically for his painting The Oxbow, which portrays Mount Holyoke in
Northampton, Massachusetts after a thunderstorm. This work, now on display at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art in New York City, was painted with oil on canvas in 1836. The painting is very large
with measurements of 130.8 x 193 cm. The work depicts mountains and valleys with greens and
browns where the left half of the sky is dark and gloomy, as it is still in the midst of the storm, and

During the segregated times back in the south was very hard to deal with especially being a kid. You
weren't allowed to go anywhere you wanted too or do many things, especially if you were black.
Everything was always divided into two main groups which were whites only and blacks only. Signs
like these were hung up almost everywhere from water fountains to bathrooms and also from buses
to schools. Fortunately the schools being segregated will eventually change because of Ruby
Bridges. Ruby bridges was the first black child to go to a all–white Elementary school during the
New Orleans school desegregation crisis in 1960. Even though Ruby Bridges was just a young girl
she had multiple character traits that she used to help during that time. Such as courage, respect,
perseverance and faith. No matter if it was a good or bad day Ruby went to school and respected her

In this painting we see an infant that is in a boat. Behind the infant there is an angel that is guiding
the child out of a cave into a beautiful landscape. Thomas Cole paints the landscape very rich; you

Love is a tricky thing. I, as I'm sure many of us, grew up with the notion that happiness was an
outside job, that I was not actually in charge of my own happiness. For me, I learned, through some
really terrible examples, that I needed to depend on others to feel happy, fulfilled, whole, and so
romantic love became very sticky. It became a game of trying to figure out what I needed to say and
do to try and get the other person to do what I thought I needed them to do in order for me to feel
safe, to feel that my needs would be met, to feel happy.
Just typing that last sentence feels complicated. And that's exactly what romantic love became.... a
very complicated strategical endeavor. The only thing that this (very Ego) strategy ends up doing is
creating resentment. I would resent my partners for not doing what I wanted them to do and they
would resent me for requiring so much of them and putting unjust pressure on them. It was not a

When I looked out of the cave I only saw a bit of snow left. There was mainly this green stuff
coming out of the ground, which momma calls grass. I wanted to go outside and play, but we were
not allowed to at only five full moons old. What was it like out there? Is the snow cold? So many
questions went through my mind, and I wanted answers. I could tell momma was watching me, so I
just laid down. "Luna, come and eat, you can look outside tomorrow" father growled softly. I
walked over to where the food was, it wasn 't much. A small amount of fish, some berries, and a bit

As Edgar Degas once said, " Art is not what you see, but what others make you see". The St. Louis
Art Museum is a place for artist to display their art and give spectators the option to see art from a
new perspective. This was the case for me. As we walked up to the beautifully structured building
that stood so tall and wide, my expectations were extremely high. At first glance I notice the bronze
statue of King Louis IX of France riding high on his horse. From this statue alone, my expectations
of the art museum grew stronger. I have never been to an art museum before, so I wasn't sure of
what to expect. My first expectation was to see huge detailed sculptures right as I walked through
the door. That expectation didn't come true.
Once we arrived, we looked up possible exhibitions that we could attend. A museum employee
recommended African textiles. After hearing the title, I immediately expected this exhibition to have
complicated and precise components to the tiles. African textiles are, in fact, made of wool or fine
animal hair in a weave patterns. Although the exhibit was interesting, it wasn't what peaked my
interest.

Playing on the varsity volleyball team is an adrenaline rush like no other. To be able to play the
sport you love with teammates that are like family, in front of a crowd of actual family members is
the ultimate feeling. Playing is even better when you, a small town nobody, beat a ranked team in
the first set. We had just beaten Humboldt 25–17 and I was on top of the world. We were playing
like our lives depended on it and I couldn't be more proud of the girls. The crowd was roaring like
