often one of the highest– grossing movie theaters in the nation. Cinemark strengthened their
presence in Florida in result of the Muvico theaters purchase. In 2012 Cinemark acquired Rave
Cinemas for $240 million, this arrangement included 32 theaters from over 12 states which
accumulated to represent about 483 screens. However, Cinemark had to sell four of its newly
acquired theaters and by 2013 the sale was closed. Technology makes it easier to watch movies on

Food is a vital component of a theater's profit making. Most profits come from the high markup on
popcorn and soda. Movie theaters are really in the snack business. In the bloom of the cinema,
popcorn really wasn't a must have item when going to the movies as it wasn't sold during the "silent
film "era. However when the Great Depression hit, theaters began to sell popcorn and gained huge
profits that kept them alive through the hard economy. Knowing that there are movie theaters that
offer gourmet food and liquor, people will be willing to watch the movie while enjoying their food.
A recent fad in the industry is serving the guests as they are waiting for their movie to begin.
Consumers can order during previews, and enjoy their food as the movie begins. The audience also
pays twice sometimes triple the price of a product just to experience the food at the theater, because
it "taste different". People do not notice a small tax rate of an additional 5–10 cents, yet realize the
prices have gone up 12–20 cents but still continue to purchase

Drive In Movie Theater History
History of Drive–In Movie Theater Drive–in movie theaters were extremely popular during the
1930' through the early 2000's. Creators, facts, and closed are main points in the history of drive–in
movie theaters. Richard Hollingshead made history June 6, 1933, when he opened the first drive–in
movie theater in Camden, New Jersey (Cohen). Richard was a sales manager at his dad's store, Whiz
Auto Products (Cohen). The idea for a drive–in movie theater came to him because his mother
would be very uncomfortable when she would sit in theater seats. He experimented in his own
driveway (Cohen), by nailing a screen to a tree, putting a 1928 Kodak projector on the hood of a car,
and using a radio to produce sound ("Drive–In Movie History"). He also ... Show more content on

In 1942, there were about one hundred drive–ins in twenty–seven states (Cohen). After World War
II, drive–in movie theaters became more popular (Cohen). Drive–ins started to get better
technology: in–car RCA Victor speakers (Cohen), movie soundtracks played through the radio
(History.com), and mobile concession stands became available (Cohen) and stared serving hot dogs,
hamburgers, French fries, and sodas. By 1948, there were about eight hundred and twenty drive–in
theaters (Cohen). Mobile concession stands became more popular and started serving a bigger
variety of foods (Cohen). In the late 1940's and early 1950's, more families than before were going
to the drive–in movie theaters (Cohen). By 1958, there were about four thousand and sixty–four
drive–ins in the United States and Canada (Cohen). The largest drive–in movie theater was the All–
Weather Drive–In in Copiague, New York (Drive–in Movie History). It had two thousand five
hundred parking spaces, one thousand two hundred indoor seats, a restaurant, playground, and a
shuttle train to transport people across the twenty–eight acre lot (Drive–In Movie History). The two
smallest drive–ins were the Harmony Drive–In in Harmony, Pennsylvania and the Highway Drive–
In in Bamberg, South Carolina (Drive–In Movie History). After the boom of drive–in theaters, there
were several reasons why they started

movie theatre chain to include stadium seating, able to fit more customers comfortably. In addition
to this, they were the original theatre chain to incorporate options into their theatres. AMC's founder,
Stanley Durwood, is responsible for kickstarting the multiplex theatre industry. He felt AMC 's
customers were at a disadvantage with just one theatre. He began renovating theatres to have several
auditoriums, rather than one major one. When the idea proved to be

Personal Narrative : A Trip To The Movie Theater
Have you ever been in a dark, lit room where the only light is coming from a screen you are facing
while being entertained by an enjoyable film and maybe snacking on some popcorn? Well, the
movie theater is an excellent place to go if you haven't been in that dark lit room. I have been to the
theater on various occasions but there is one specific occasion where I learned a valuable lesson, but
let me start at the beginning. A few years ago, when I was about six years old I went to see a movie
with my parents, and my sister. Before the movie began, we went to run some errands. After a while
of running errands, I began to realize that we were going to be late to the movie if we didn't start
heading to the theater.
At the time I was very young and was not wise enough to realize what was important and what was
not. So, when I noticed we were going to be late to the movie, I started to overreacting and I said to
my father in a panicked voice, "Dad we are going to be late to the movies if we don't hurry up!"
"Calm down, if we are late we are late, there is nothing we can do about it," he replied sternly. "If
you don't want to miss any part of the movie we can go next week." He added with a calm tone in
his voice.
When my father responded very sternly I was upset that he did not care about this, but then again I
still was only six years old and did not know the difference between what is important and what is
unimportant. I now realize that I was unreasonable to get mad at my father for no good reason. So I
had to wait until they were finished with what they had to do before we went to the movies.
When we finally got to the movie theater, bought our tickets, and entered the cinema, we had only
missed fifteen minutes of the movie. My family and I got there just in time to understand the movie.
The movie was about a family of dinosaurs where there were a father and a mother. They had three
children and the youngest child was the one who would feel that he got the least attention from his
parents. He would most often feel resented by his father. However, from the viewer's point of view,
it was very clear that the youngest son was spoiled by his mother already. Though, his father just did
not treat him the

Factors That Can Increase A Movie 's Domestic Gross Revenue
I will be analyzing some factors that can increase a movie's domestic gross revenue. Since I was a
kid, I have always loved movies. I thought of movies more as an art form rather than just another
source of entertainment. Each movie is unique, there will always a new movie to amaze people, and
ever evolving due to changing minds and technologies. I've hardly ever thought about it being a
huge, growing business. In this research, I want to see if a movie can be successful without factoring
in variables such as actors, story, ratings, genres, company, sequels, or any other factor that can
influence a consumer's mind. This will be what the producer can do to maximize profit. I will be
looking at the production budget, how many theaters the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It'll make more money because more people will have more opportunity to watch it. So, I think that
movies will make more money if it is in more theaters around the world. At the same time, it could
also decrease domestic gross revenue. It cost money to put movies in the box office and putting it
theaters, but I believe that it will increase gross revenue for the most part. The third variable that I
researched was how long the movies were in theaters for. Like the last variable, it gives the movie
more time to accumulate revenue. It's like the second variable, the longer it is in theaters, the more
money they can make. Once a movie leaves theaters it loses its chance to showcase itself to the
world then goes away before it comes out on DVD. If people haven't seen the movie in theaters then
they won't buy the DVD. Staying in theaters can also cost the movie a lot of money just like the
second variable but I think days in theaters has a positive relationship with gross revenue.
The table above is a descriptive statistics analysis of 30 random box office movies from 2016. The
average domestic gross revenue is around 62.96 million while the average of the production budget
is around 59.37 million. On average, all the movies stay in the theaters for about 73.5 days and in a
mean of 2781 theaters.
The regression equation is:
R2 is .7418 which means that 74.18% of domestic gross revenue can be explained by the 3
variables. The first intercept in the

Personal Narrative: Senses Vs. Streaming
Senses v. Streaming The thought of staying in, curling in with some snacks, that one fuzzy blanket
that everyone is attached too, and watched a new movie that just came out that day? Well the world
we used to know is changing ladies and gentleman, what used to be a fun night out going to the
movie theater with friends or a date night with your significant other may have to fight for its life to
survive. Their enemy? Well in an article written by Claire Atkinson from NBC News the fight
between movie theaters and streaming companies such as Netflix. My stance on the topic is siding

Whether with a group of friends, or co–workers, or that awkward first date, almost everyone in the

of going to the movie theater especially in the past couple months I've gone with friends to see; Thor
Ragnarok, Star Wars: The Last Jedi (twice), The Greatest Showman (also twice), Jumanji: Welcome
to the Jungle and Insidious The Last Key (although I was forced to go to that one). The theater
creates an era of excitement, with the comfy chairs, the buttery popcorn, the thrill of seeing
something you've ever seen before. Some of my best memories are with my friends at the movie

Should Movie Theaters Be Worried That Netflix Is Stealing...
Should movie theaters be worried that Netflix is stealing their audience? With 50 million subscribers
worldwide, Netflix is giving movie theaters a run for their money. With easy access, many
subscribers are able to reach Netflix right in their natural habitat: sitting in the comfort of their home
in front of their TVs.
Netflix gains thousands of subscribers every year, compared to where it was a few years ago, many
theaters believe that movies available to stream at home is a big threat. Home media has changed
drastically over the decades, there are no more video rental shops, thanks to how much technology
and the Internet have improved over the past few years. Throughout most of our lives, we have
accepted the fact that whenever a movie comes out, the only way to watch it is through theater first.
With the innovation of Netflix, we are able to experience entertainment in a different way.
Having to plan on whether or not to see a film in theaters has always been a hassle for movie–goers
all the time. Today, movie theaters aren't always the most tempting choice with all the obstacles ...

And who would want to deal with screaming babies, cell phone ringing, chair kicking neighbors,
etc.? Even though you have to wait for new releases on Netflix, there's no waiting in lines, and you
have the right to eat whatever you want whenever you'd like during your movie.
Although the debate of whether or not going to the movie theaters rather than staying home and
watching Netflix is still in question, unequivocally the answer is yes. While having Netflix has been
a blessing to the antisocial community, nothing on your home TV screen or laptop screen will
compare to an 80 ft. movie screen and hundreds of speakers. Some movies are just meant to be
screened on a larger–than–life scale, and that's something a TV or a computer screen will never be

Why Piracy Laws Must Be Changed
Prepare to be Boarded:
Why Piracy Laws Must Be Changed
From the moment consumers were able to use the internet to get music, software, and movies,
piracy has had serious financial implications for the motion picture industry. Copyright protection
presents some difficulty in illegally obtaining movies, but there are many avenues around most of
these systems. The RIAA, or Recording Industry Association of America, has tried several legal
ploys to prevent people from accessing this material, but many consumers continue to access it with
little concern. Much like the music industry, which was challenged to reinvent its distribution
model, the movie industry has to do the same thing. To counter the amount of piracy the movie
studios must develop new systems for content delivery including streaming new release movies at
home. First, the current system of forcing consumers to go to a movie theater is no longer desirable
for many. Entertainment seekers can now get almost instant access to desired content, whether it's
music or movies via streaming services like Netflix. These services exist due to the demand for them
and to satiate the desire for content when and where the customer wants it. While my generation
patiently grew up waiting for Thursday night for The Cosby Show the current generation is not
oriented around content on a television or at a specific date and time. As this younger generation
becomes paying customers their desires will have to be considered with

Movie Theater And Choosing A Seat
1. When walking into a movie theater and choosing a seat, the appropriate interval all depends on
how full the theater is. When a person pays for a movie ticket, they understand the possibility of not
receiving the ideal seating. Most movie theaters operate on a first come first served basis. In my
estimation, the appropriate spacing between people at a movie theater is one seat. I don't have a
problem sitting next to a stranger in a movie theater with one seat separating us. I understand
sometimes sitting next to a stranger in inevitable, I have had to do it many times. Movie theaters
become very dark once the movie starts, which causes people to feel uncomfortable because they are
vulnerable without sight.
I feel that the appropriate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people are not going to be able to experience wizard magic, space, or getting stuck on a
sinking ship. A lesson can be learned from any situation, whether it's what to do, or not to do.
Another positive is that movies teach diversity. These popular commercial films are full of different
ideas, people, and elements. When people watch diverse movies, it allows them to become more
open and accepting in our everyday lives.
A negative aspect is the violence that is included in these movies. Children and teens have seen
these movies and get the ideas in their heads that it is okay to emulate these actions. Young minds
are malleable, which could lead to different problems in the future of these young people. Another
negative aspect of these movies is that they distract from life. This could also be a good thing
because people need breaks sometimes, but we can't be distracted all of the time. If we had a choice
between working and entering a world unlike our own through movies, most people would probably
choose to be somewhere else mentally.
3. I chose the very beginning of the Bourne Identity (2002) to look for camera techniques because
this portion of the film will be the first seen by the viewers. In the opening scene the viewer is
underwater looking up at Jason Bourne floating on the surface of the ocean. I feel this camera angle
was employed by the filmmaker to show the audience that Jason Bourne is not a bad guy. We do not
know who Jason is at

Advantages Of Staying At Home Vs Movie Theater
When thinking about a trip to the movie theater, what comes to mind? Most may think of the
delicious, perfectly cooked, buttered popcorn, and huge movie screen with surround sound. While
others may think of the obnoxiously loud atmosphere and inconvenient show times. Everyone has
their opinion on which movie viewing option they think is better; the movie theater, or home. When
it "boils down" to the facts, it is not hard to see why staying at home is the prefered movie–watching
experience over the the movie theater experience, the reasons why this may be so is the cost, the
inconvenience of show times, and viewing options
The Cost
The first point to consider is the cost. Movie theater tickets and concession prices are always on the
rise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Show Times
Another point to consider is the inconvenient show times. Often, movie theater showtimes seem to
be impossible to work around or plan for. This can especially be the case for people who work a job
during the day. For example, if a woman wanted to go see a movie with her friend after work, the
planning around the movie theater showtimes becomes very tedious quickly. If the woman gets off
at five, then that automatically knocks out the 5:00 movie viewing time. The next available show
time isn't until 7:30, but she has work the next day and she needs to get home at a decent hour in the
day. Therefore she has to cancel her plans with her friend solely due to the fact that the movie
theater only had certain viewing times that weren't catering to her schedule. On the contrary, show
times at home are a "24–7" deal. Anytime a person feels like watching a movie at home is the
perfect time. We are able to watch virtually any movie at any time with the click of a remote button
or the tap of an app on our smart phones. Therefore, making the home movie viewing experience the
ultimate choice because of the convenient "24–7" showtimes.
The Viewing Options
The last point to consider is the viewing options. According to Pew Research Center (2006) 58% of
people don't go out to the movie theater more often is due to the fact that there are too few good
movies to see( pg 3.) And it's not hard to see

Effects Of Movie Piracy
Pirated movies have grown over the last couple of years. You can see someone on any given
weekend when you walk through the grocery store trying to sale you a movie. Piracy is defined by
Dictionary.com as, "the unauthorized reproduction or use of a copyrighted book, recording,
television program, patented invention, trademarked product, etc." Therefore, a pirated movie is
when a movie is released without the owner or person that got the material copy righted it knowing
or consenting to the release. Movie piracy is unethical because it skews the box office financial
numbers, decreases the chance for sequels, and hurts the theaters, even though it does provide a
means for people that are less likely to go to the theaters. The movie box office ranks movies by
how much it grosses in the theater over the span of time that it is in theaters. The span of time can be
by day, month, or year. However, we must first understand that when you watch, receive, or supply a
pirated movie there is no money made by the production company. For instance, the movie may
have been seen by five thousand people but if two thousand people view pirated copies then the
number reported will be the profit brought in by the three thousand people. When you look at the
numbers three thousand may seem large but when you think about a movie ticket being nine dollars
you will only be making $2.7 million of the $4.5 million that the movie would have made in the
theaters. The money that the movies make goes back

History of the Drive-In Movie Theater Essay
History of the Drive–In Movie Theater
The story of the drive–in movie theater begins with one man. That man was Richard Milton
Hollingshead, Jr., born on February 25, 1900, the "father" of the drive–in.
The drive–in got its humble beginnings in the driveway of Hollingshead's Riverton, New Jersey
home, at 212 Thomas Avenue. This is where his first experimentations took place. Setting a 1928
Kodak projector on the hood of the family car, he projected the film onto a screen he had nailed to a
tree. He tested the potential hazards of foul weather by turning on his lawn sprinkler to simulate a
rainstorm. His home radio sitting behind the screen to provide sound, Hollingshead sat in his car
watching and listening. The car windows up or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pennsauken Township was the location. The theater was called the Automobile Movie Theatre. The
marquee simply stated "Drive–in Theatre."
Opening night drew a full house. Many were there for free, however, as Hollingshead and Smith had
distributed free passes to as many local media as they could. The first film ever shown at a drive–in
was the 1932 release Wife Beware, starring Adolphe Menjou. The partners complained they were
not able to obtain a first–run film from a distributor. This was due to the fear that the gate at indoor
houses would be lessened. This problem would plague drive–ins forever. Many shorts accompanied
the feature. Admission was twenty–five cents per person. Three or more in a car were admitted for
the price of one dollar.
Initially the plan was to have three shows a night. There would be one at 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30 P.M.
But in order to fit all shows in, films had to be edited. This system did not work well. Apparently the
partners realized this mistake early; for after only the second night, the schedule was changed to
only two shows a night. Now there would be one at 8:45 and 10:45 P.M. The program changed
twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. The two men also learned early on about the difficulties
in preparing a quality scheduling format. The films had to be started early enough to allow time to
fit both in, but late enough to be visible against the fading sunlight of

Strategic Analysis of Movie Exhibition Industry
By: Kim Saline
February 24, 2010
Objective:
To provide an analysis and make recommendations to increase revenue in the movie exhibition
industry.
Overview:
Ticket sales for movie theaters are at their lowest point since 1996. With the core demographic
group expected to grow slower than the US population and with technological advances growing at
speeds faster than the industry can keep up, ticket sales will continue to decline if the current
business strategy continues to be followed.
Concession sales and ticket sales are the two biggest sources of revenue for a movie theater. Both
continue to increase in cost to the consumers and may have reached a price point that is starting ...

They also initiate the contracts with the theaters and negotiate the percentage of box office sales
they will receive. Many of the distribution companies are integrating with the production studios
because the need for distribution is diminishing with the conversion to digital. This makes these
suppliers a strong force.
On the concession side the bargaining power is weak due to economies of scale. Theaters earn most
of their profits on concessions so they use their power to reduce their costs from their suppliers.
4. The bargaining power of buyers: The outlook for the target market isn't favorable for the movie
industry because it will not be growing as fast as the overall population. Buyer power is a strong
force because of the target market and several other factors including: the undifferentiated product
offered, switching to an alternative is simple and low cost, and customers can stay home and watch
movies. The consumers are also complaining about concession and ticket costs, along with the
advertisements before the film is shown.
5. The threat of substitutes: This is the strongest force of competitive pressure that the movie
exhibition industry faces. Not only are they competing among each other but they have to compete
with every leisure activity a consumer has to choose from.
Consumers are also investing in home theaters. TV's are bigger than ever and have digital and 3D
capability. As the costs of all the components go down consumers are

Why Do Movie Goers Should Not Bring Their Own Food Into...
Snacks make watching movies at the theater more enjoyable, but are they worth the price you pay?
Snack prices at the movies are extremely high. Most snacks can be found much cheaper at regular
stores. Many people believe that it is ok to sneak food and drinks into the movies, while others are
strictly against it. Customers should not bring their own food into movie theaters because the rules
should be followed, it maybe rude to others, and ticket prices could incline. One reason why
customers shouldn't bring their own food into movie theaters is because the rules should be

As many of us have experienced, theater seats are typically not the most comfortable, especially
when it is compared to your new $700 recliner from Bed, Bath and Beyond. Also, since you are in
the comfort of your own home, there is no immature child sitting behind you constantly kicking the
back of your seat, or strangers next to you who like to claim the arm rests for themselves and leave
you wedged uncomfortably into your seat.
Also, regarding the crowd in a theater, people have a tendency to disregard the instructions of
turning off all cell–phones and refraining from talking during the film to ensure that all paying
viewers can enjoy the film. For other viewers the constant bright light of a phone screen or
conversation occurring next to them can ruin the movie and their evening. Until the courtesy rules
are more strictly enforced people will continue to disobey them. However, at home the viewer can
decide to completely turn off their phone if he or she wants to focus solely on the movie or they can
freely text message or talk to friends while watching. Home viewing allows for the viewer to tailor
their environment to their personal preferences, unlike a theater.
Finally, when watching movies at home, the viewer is running according to his or her own schedule.

Movies At Home Vs Movies
According to Redbox, the average person will watch 5,000 movies in his or her lifetime (Smith). I
believe the reason for that is because a movie is the art of one's imagination coming to life on a
screen. The two most common places to see these masterpieces are either in someone's home or a
movie theater. Depending on the person, where they watch a movie can change their opinion on the
film itself. A movie theater and a home can have similarities, but when people decide where to see a
movie, the decision is based on differences such as costs, comfort, and immersiveness.
For the most part, the cost of a movie is one of the main deciding factors on if a person wants to see
a movie in a theater or rent it. Some people enjoy staying at home to watch a movie. Renting a
movie may be the best option depending on who the person is. It may only cost around three to five
dollars to rent a movie. This can help save the viewer some money as when renting a movie, you
only have to pay for it once rather than a certain number of tickets for the entire group. Along with
renting a movie, someone who is watching a movie at home may only have to pay one to ten dollars
to feed the group. On the other hand, some people enjoy the theater. At Cinema West, a local movie
theater, a ticket can cost anywhere from eight to ten dollars depending on the movie. Along with
getting into the show, snacks are a common item for moviegoers to buy. Food from an AMC theater
can cost anywhere from three to twenty

Movie Analysis : Movie Theater Tickets Prices
In life, there are many ways citizens choose to be entertained. Whether it's by playing a game
system, watching T.V., or even going out to watch a sports game, people are willing to pay a good
price for entertainment. One service for entertainment that has been going on for years dated back
since 1896 is a movie theater. Theaters attract a huge variety of attendances by showing the latest
movie being released which you get to watch on a big screen with somewhat comfortable seats for a
certain amount of money per ticket. Unfortunately, movie theater tickets prices have been
outrageous over the last couple of years. By raising prices on the tickets and already having high
concession prices, theaters have prevented themselves from being able ... Show more content on

Many customers even are not satisfied with the movie after watching it. This could cause them to
never want to pay the price for another movie. Statistics show that many of the theater 's box office
sales have only risen to about two percent since 2016. This is a big difference considering that their
sales had a huge jump during the time range of 2014–2015. The sales rose from being $10.4 billion
to $11.1 billion surprisingly since just in 2013 the sales only went up $100,000. Based on the
number of movies that were released which were considerably good, box office sales in the United
States could have possibly topped the sales of 2008 which had the biggest increase throughout the
years of 2007–2016 which was a $1 billion increase. Netflix has been having a huge impact on the
entertainment industry for the past few years. By being able to show a substantial amount of movies
in almost every genre, Netflix began to increase slowly but since its release on August 29th, 1997 by
March Randolph. This has posed a threat toward the movie industry because of the "broad range" of
series/movies attracts more and more people every year making them rather stay at home and watch
a movie. "Movie attendance dropped by a surprisingly sharp 5.1% in 2014 according to new data"
(Tero, Kuittinen, Par.2).

The Death Of Movie Theaters Essay
The Death of Movie Theaters?
How Netflix and Hulu are changing the movie going experience. Netflix and Hulu have become
some of the easiest and most affordable ways for college students to watch television. While these
massive online streaming companies advertise affordability, and vast amount of viewing options,
other major entertainment companies are beginning to take notice. "They're being able to release
high quality movie content and original shows that are being able to rival anything that is being
made for theaters," Paul McFerron, Employee of the Branson Meadow's Cinema's, told me last
week.
McFerron, having worked at the cinema for over a year now, has noticed a slight decline in the
attendance at the theater. He believes that Netflix has something to do with it.
"Netflix's cost per month is around 10 dollars now. A year ago, I believe the cost was 7.99 monthly.
What I'm trying to say is that if you come to the theater, one ticket alone can cost around 8 dollars.
Then you factor in snacks which could bump your ticket it up to 15 dollars. Plus, if the film is in 3D,
then you are looking at a 12–15–dollar ticket, and add however much you want with concessions.
The prices are steep, and I understand why some people are passing on theaters." "The option of
being able to stay in the comfort of your own home is very appealing to people right now. I mean, I
myself am a college student, and I sometimes don't have enough money to go to the movies, so the

The Similarities Of A Cinemax Theater Vs. Cinemax Theater
Going to the movie theater has been a well–known activity. People go to the movies to watch all the
new movies with the company of either their girlfriend or boyfriend, a group of friends, or with
family. There are many qualities one has to think about when they are choosing a location to watch a
movie. They have two options, a Cinemax theater or a Drive In theater. A Drive In theater tends to
have more qualities when watching a move rather than a Cinemax. Although a Cinemax theater does
have some qualities of interest a Drive In theater seems more valuable. For one, the Drive in is
inexpensive compared to a Cinemax theater. The customer gets to watch two movies for the price of
one at a Drive in unlike the Cinemax theater where you only watch one movie for one price.
Secondly, at a Cinemax theater they do not let their customers bring their own food from outside
therefore, you have to buy their pricey food. While at the Drive In anybody is welcomed to bring
any type of outside food into the theater area. Thirdly, in a Cinemax theater one is in a building with
a large amount of other people and at a Drive In a person is in their own car with people they do
know. There are times when someone would like to go watch a movie but, price tickets can be a bit
too expensive. At a local movie theater like AMC or Edwards Cinemax a movie ticket for one movie
ranges from a minimum of fourteen dollars to twenty–two dollars depending on the time you go and
the seats you choose. While at

What Is The Right To Buy Snacks Into The Movie Theater
Is it truly morally sound to bring outside food and drinks into a movie theater? Many people think
that sneaking snacks into the movies okay because the snacks sold at the movies are not as favorable
as snacks they could buy at stores because of the price and limitation of choices. Some people see
that not buying snacks could negatively affect the movie theater while some believe that bringing
their own snacks would not hugely affect the theaters. It is okay to bring snacks into the movie
theater because some people cannot eat specific snack foods due to allergies, movie theater food is
incredibly unhealthy, and cheaper prices are available to those who buy food from outside places.

continue to go to the movies, but I don't enjoy it quite as much. I've realized that the entire theater

Now when I think of the once amazing movie theater, all I can imagine are the germs. Sitting in the

Watching a Movie at Home vs. Theater Essay example
Movies are one of the biggest entertainment sources for anyone in the world, and for the same
reason film industry is the largest of any industries with India making the most number of movies
per year than any other country. People watch movies at home on their television or in the theaters

screen at the front of the auditorium. Watching a movie at home or in theater is an enjoyable
experience for everyone depending on personal preferences.

It can be easier for parents to exercise their control over children if they are watching a movie at
home. If a movie scene is not appropriate for a child, then they have the choice of fast forwarding it
or stopping the movie whereas one does not have that choice in the theater. Movie theaters make it
more difficult on parent's pockets by having a huge variety and display of goodies for children. The
food items are overly priced in a theater and that could be a big dent in the pocket if added on to the
price of entrance ticket.
Some theaters give people and option to go movie hopping where one can see as many movies with
one theater entrance purchase. This is very economical for people who wait for all their favorite
movies to accumulate and watch all of them together in day. This is difficult to do if one wants to
wait for the television channels to telecast them.
There is a broad variety of types of theaters available– conventional theaters, IMAX and drive in's.
Going to a theater is a good change for a person in contrast to watching it at home. Theaters are a
popular dating spot for person any age. One can choose between the types of theater one wants to go

Thomas Lincoln Tally's Electric Theater History
Thomas Lincoln Tally, proprietor of arcades and phonograph parlors, opened his Electric Theatre in
Los Angeles during the spring of 1902. The actual date of the theater's opening varies among
sources, the most often cited being April 2nd, 6th, and 16th. Before Tally's Electric Theatre, motion
pictures were often exhibited in existing storefronts or vaudeville theaters. Tally's was the first
building constructed for the sole purpose of showing movies. The theater was open from 7:30 pm to
10:30 pm in the beginning, but Tally added matinee showtimes to accommodate its many customers.
Screenings were often sold out, no matter the time or day. Tally's initial success spurred on the wave
of construction of more movie theaters, about 3,000 in the U.S. by 1907 and 10,000 by 1910. It is
also worth noting that Tally's Electric Theatre was not a nickelodeon. Though the term is sometimes
used loosely today, by definition it only applies to movie theaters that charged five cents (a nickel)
for admission. Tally's charged ten cents as mentioned in an early advertisement:

course of the year, movie stars toured the country, ads were taken out in newspapers, and one

The Movie Pass program was first brought to my attention by my daughter. She told me it was
something that her father and I might want to check out. We do enjoy going to the movies, so I took
her advice. I did some online research and found that the Movie Pass Company was founded in
2011. Apparently, it has been around for a while, so I was surprised I had not heard of this service
before. I read some reviews about the program and I found a mixed bag of reviews. Some
individuals have found Movie pass to be an inexpensive way to see movies while others had
complaints about the service. The complaints were from people who claimed they had never
received their passes or they had problems using the pass once they arrived at the theater. Being an

maybe the naysayers were right and this deal was too good to be true. On the drive home, my

Movie Theater : The Film Theater
Throughout history, humans have always been able to connect over one thing: entertainment.
Whether it is music, theater, or art, entertainment has always been able to help people cope with
their lives and make sense of the world around them. In the early 1900s, a new type of entertainment
emerged, the motion picture. The first movie theater opened in 1905, in Pittsburgh and showed short
films. Since then, films have been a huge part of society. However, what made films so successful,
was where they were being showed. The movie theater gave a certain magical touch to the movie
that encouraged everyone to come see a film for themselves. In Chicago especially, movie theaters
were extravagant and ornate, and were referred to as "Movie Palaces" because they were so grand.
The importance of movie theaters throughout history is a topic which exhibits all three E's in
Chicago for the 2015–2016 Chicago National History Fair. It depicts the first "E", "Exploration,"
with how the movie theater companies explored different ways to attract customers from all
backgrounds in Chicago, even through difficult situations. The second "E", "Encounter," is shown
when the theater owners realized that seeing a movie can be an escape for many people during hard
times and an inspirational experience through the exotic architecture of other cultures. The final "E",
"Exchange", is represented through the exchange of information from the movie theaters to the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Movie Movies
Technological advances have changed most of the industries and commercial markets in the world.
One of the industries that have gone through a major transformation is the Movie Theater industry.
This industry has been around for quite some time, it was created in the early 1900s for
entertainment. The 20th century was all about innovating the way movies were produced and
reproduced. However, it is this same characteristic which is lacking today and will lead it to its
downfall.
The problem now in the 21st century is that people are now going less and less to the movie theater.
The box office ticketing hit its high on the 1980s and continued stabled through the 1990s, but in the
last fifteen years the number of people visiting the theaters a year has decreased significantly.
There are several reasons why this is happening. One is that now there are a larger variety of
methods of entertainment that came from the development of diverse gadgets and the vast
distribution of the Internet. These platforms or devices just as smartphones, tablets, and laptops
allow the viewer to watch reality television, television series and movies at any location where the

The Movie Exhibition Industry Case Analysis

Motion pictures are a key driver of the market for entertainment products, one of the largest export
markets in US. Motion picture industry consists of three stages: studio production, distribution, and
exhibition. The studios produce the lifeblood of the industry, the films that are its content. The
biggest players at this level are the majors, big studios which integrate production and distribution,
as do the slightly smaller mini–majors. The next stage is distribution. Distributors are the
intermediaries between the studios and exhibitors. Distribution entails all steps following a film's

Competition between theaters often comes down to distance from home, convenience of parking and
proximity of restaurants. Innovations by one theater chain are quickly adopted by others. The
differing approaches of the theater chain companies are reflected in their cost of fixed assets per
screen.
Concession sales and ticket sales are the two biggest sources of revenue for a movie theater but the
exhibitors has limited control over both revenues and profits because those two are important
aspects. Attendance allows for profitable sales of concessions and advertisements, but there are
significant caps on the volume of concession sales per person, and selling price seem to have
reached a maximum. Both continue to increase in cost to the consumers and may have reached a
price point that is starting to drive consumers away from going to see a movie.
With the advancements in home entertainment systems, consumers are investing thousands of
dollars into their own home viewing systems. They have several options to stream video content into
the comfort of their own homes. Home entertainment systems have also made a large impact on the
theater industry. In 2005, this technological advancement was the most sought after electronic
system for new homes. It seems that consumers have finally said no to the rising price of movie
tickets and concession stand snacks and beverages.

Essay On The Pros And Cons Of Watching A Movie Vs Watching...
Going to watch a movie or watching at home really only boils down to personal preference. The
film industry is so vast, there are so many different genres as well as ways to access these films. The
destination in which someone wants to watch a particular film depends on what they want out of
their own movie watching experience. There are pros and cons to going to watch a movie as well as
watching at home. Regarding screen–size, going to watch a movie typically means larger and better
quality screens than one might have at their own home. These large screens allow the viewers to
completely immerse themselves into the film itself. Watching a movie on a 30 to 90–foot movie
theater screen or even a 20–foot projector at an outdoor movie can sound much more appealing than
watching on a 40 to 60–inch television. However, this is all proportionally based on how far away
the viewer is from the screen, theaters are designed to fit the views their customers will be watching
from, but outdoor movies and living room setups are not always as technically proportioned.
Outside there may only be room left farther away from the screen leading to a less desirable movie
viewing experience, and in one's own living room it may not be set up in a way that allows for
pleasurable movie viewing, for example, their television may be too small for how far away their
couch is. Regardless, the way movie theaters are set up limits the distractions one may have while
watching in theaters.

Movie Theater Experience
Experiencing Film in Theaters Watching movies is probably one of my favorite activities, it does not
matter if the movie good or bad; I just want to watch them. I loved going to the theaters as a kid
because the entire experience was always so exciting, especially since it was the first thing my
mother let me do out on my own. Going to the movies had always been a blessing but as I have
grown I have made an effort to go less often. While the experience is still the same I just notice just
how bad the overall experience can be as well.
Honestly, the best part of watching a movie in theaters is the movie theater experience; for example
the seats, the popcorn, the large screen, the sound system, the people, and the new releases. It is not
just you in your room watching a movie, it is you reacting to the film and to the people around you
around you as well, all the while getting all these over the top elements as well. Movie going takes a
common experience and amplifies it so it feels like you're getting something even greater.
Plus, my favorite part for any film has always been the trailers; the exciting bits and pieces of
coming films thrown together to entice future visits. With fast paced action and cliffhanging details
that are thrown in the 2–3 minute time frame, I am left wanting to come back and see that movie
when it comes out. It is how they reel me in and keep me coming back in regular intervals. I have

A Study Of Millennials ' Methods Of Movie Consumption
It has been apparent that in the past few years, the number of people attending movie theaters has
continued to decrease (MPAA, 2014; Harris Poll, 2014.) With various digital streaming sites like
Netflix continuing to increase in consumption, (Kuittinen, 2015) people have become less motivated
to go to movie theaters because of the feasibility and convenience of watching movies on various
devices (Kuittinen, 2015.) According to the MPAA's Theatrical Market Statistics 2014, there was a
significant decrease in the number of movie tickets sold, by 6% (MPAA, 2014.) with only 1.26

basically there are a lot of different sources of profits for Movie Theater.
A Movie Theater has to attract people not only with movies but also with all the fun that people can
have in Movie Theater.
Technological factors 3–D equipped Digital age The IMAX
As we know today all the world is using 3–D. It's a new technology which entered not only to
Movie Theaters. Today all the famous companies like Sony and Samsung start producing TVs
mainly with 3–D technology. So 3–D is becoming kind of part of our life. Now we want to see
everything in 3–D and this tendency is giving a good chance to Movie Theaters to get more profit.
In all the Movie Theaters tickets for 3–D movie are more expensive than for regular movies and this
is not surprising anyone. People see the big difference between regular movies and 3–D movies and
they are ready and agree to pay more for the feelings that 3–D gives. Currently more than 50% of
the screens in USA are 3–D equipped, this is about 13,000 screens. This brings in millions of dollars
of additional revenues.
According to Nevafilmresearches (http://research.nevafilm.ru/reports/eao/eao2012) Russia has a

The Movie Theater, Carmike Cinemas, And True Love Essay
Awkward first dates are the worst. Sometimes though, the outcome can bloom into something more
beautiful. The movie theater, Carmike Cinemas, in their Coke Commercial, "Here's To The Movies,
and True Love," represents that true love can transpire in the most awkward of ways. Carmike
Cinemas' purpose is to convey the idea that true love can happen anywhere, but also portrays a sense
of persuasion to encourage these first dates to take place at the movie theater with the purchase of a
Coca–Cola. They adopt a romantic tone in order to connect with young lovers or single men and
women to encourage their first dates to be at the movie theater. This will lead to true love by night's
end. Carmike Cinemas' Coke Commercial: "Here's To The Movies, and True Love" illustrates
symbolism, anecdote, and nostalgic flashback to show a view of true love and how it can be a
simply blissful first date thanks to Coca–Cola and the movie theater.
Carmike Cinemas begins by using symbolism to demonstrate the disastrous events occurring prior
to buying a Coca–Cola and popcorn at the movie theater. Carmike Cinemas narrates, "Did I really
ruin your dress?" (Here's To The Movies). The husband adds, "[...] and the rain wasn't helping
anything" (Here's To The Movies). He laughs embarrassingly, "I couldn't get anything to go right"
(Here's To The Movies). Carmike Cinemas uses Coca–Cola as an important product in this couple's
relationship. By using all these components as an example of symbolism, the

The Maryland Egyptian Theater was often one of the highest– grossing movie theaters in the nation. Cinemark strengthened their presence in Florida in result of the Muvico theaters purchase. In 2012 Cinemark acquired Rave Cinemas for $240 million, this arrangement included 32 theaters from over 12 states which accumulated to represent about 483 screens. However, Cinemark had to sell four of its newly acquired theaters and by 2013 the sale was closed. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Food is a vital component of a theater's profit making. Most profits come from the high markup on popcorn and soda. Movie theaters are really in the snack business. In the bloom of the cinema, popcorn really wasn't a must have item when going to the movies as it wasn't sold during the "silent film "era. However when the Great Depression hit, theaters began to sell popcorn and gained huge profits that kept them alive through the hard economy. Knowing that there are movie theaters that offer gourmet food and liquor, people will be willing to watch the movie while enjoying their food. A recent fad in the industry is serving the guests as they are waiting for their movie to begin. Consumers can order during previews, and enjoy their food as the movie begins. The audience also pays twice sometimes triple the price of a product just to experience the food at the theater, because it "taste different". • 5. Drive In Movie Theater History History of Drive–In Movie Theater Drive–in movie theaters were extremely popular during the 1930' through the early 2000's. Creators, facts, and closed are main points in the history of drive–in movie theaters. Richard Hollingshead made history June 6, 1933, when he opened the first drive–in movie theater in Camden, New Jersey (Cohen). Richard was a sales manager at his dad's store, Whiz Auto Products (Cohen). The idea for a drive–in movie theater came to him because his mother would be very uncomfortable when she would sit in theater seats. He experimented in his own driveway (Cohen), by nailing a screen to a tree, putting a 1928 Kodak projector on the hood of a car, and using a radio to produce sound ("Drive–In Movie History"). He also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1942, there were about one hundred drive–ins in twenty–seven states (Cohen). After World War II, drive–in movie theaters became more popular (Cohen). Drive–ins started to get better technology: in–car RCA Victor speakers (Cohen), movie soundtracks played through the radio (History.com), and mobile concession stands became available (Cohen) and stared serving hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries, and sodas. By 1948, there were about eight hundred and twenty drive–in theaters (Cohen). Mobile concession stands became more popular and started serving a bigger variety of foods (Cohen). In the late 1940's and early 1950's, more families than before were going to the drive–in movie theaters (Cohen). By 1958, there were about four thousand and sixty–four drive–ins in the United States and Canada (Cohen). The largest drive–in movie theater was the All– Weather Drive–In in Copiague, New York (Drive–in Movie History). It had two thousand five hundred parking spaces, one thousand two hundred indoor seats, a restaurant, playground, and a shuttle train to transport people across the twenty–eight acre lot (Drive–In Movie History). Their overarching goal of having customers frequent one of their theatres rather than the competition's has been clearly demonstrated in their efforts. The company has interesting attributes that bolster their mission to create "smiles". AMC was the first movie theatre chain to include stadium seating, able to fit more customers comfortably. In addition to this, they were the original theatre chain to incorporate options into their theatres. AMC's founder, Stanley Durwood, is responsible for kickstarting the multiplex theatre industry. • 13. Personal Narrative : A Trip To The Movie Theater Have you ever been in a dark, lit room where the only light is coming from a screen you are facing while being entertained by an enjoyable film and maybe snacking on some popcorn? Well, the movie theater is an excellent place to go if you haven't been in that dark lit room. I have been to the theater on various occasions but there is one specific occasion where I learned a valuable lesson, but let me start at the beginning. A few years ago, when I was about six years old I went to see a movie with my parents, and my sister. Before the movie began, we went to run some errands. After a while of running errands, I began to realize that we were going to be late to the movie if we didn't start heading to the theater. At the time I was very young and was not wise enough to realize what was important and what was not. So, when I noticed we were going to be late to the movie, I started to overreacting and I said to my father in a panicked voice, "Dad we are going to be late to the movies if we don't hurry up!" "Calm down, if we are late we are late, there is nothing we can do about it," he replied sternly. "If you don't want to miss any part of the movie we can go next week." He added with a calm tone in his voice. When my father responded very sternly I was upset that he did not care about this, but then again I still was only six years old and did not know the difference between what is important and what is unimportant. I now realize that I was unreasonable to get mad at my father for no good reason. So I had to wait until they were finished with what they had to do before we went to the movies. When we finally got to the movie theater, bought our tickets, and entered the cinema, we had only missed fifteen minutes of the movie. My family and I got there just in time to understand the movie. The movie was about a family of dinosaurs where there were a father and a mother. They had three children and the youngest child was the one who would feel that he got the least attention from his parents. He would most often feel resented by his father. However, from the viewer's point of view, it was very clear that the youngest son was spoiled by his mother already. Though, his father just did not treat him the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I thought of movies more as an art form rather than just another source of entertainment. Each movie is unique, there will always a new movie to amaze people, and ever evolving due to changing minds and technologies. I've hardly ever thought about it being a huge, growing business. In this research, I want to see if a movie can be successful without factoring in variables such as actors, story, ratings, genres, company, sequels, or any other factor that can influence a consumer's mind. This will be what the producer can do to maximize profit. I will be looking at the production budget, how many theaters the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It'll make more money because more people will have more opportunity to watch it. So, I think that movies will make more money if it is in more theaters around the world. At the same time, it could also decrease domestic gross revenue. It cost money to put movies in the box office and putting it theaters, but I believe that it will increase gross revenue for the most part. The third variable that I researched was how long the movies were in theaters for. Like the last variable, it gives the movie more time to accumulate revenue. It's like the second variable, the longer it is in theaters, the more money they can make. Once a movie leaves theaters it loses its chance to showcase itself to the world then goes away before it comes out on DVD. If people haven't seen the movie in theaters then they won't buy the DVD. Staying in theaters can also cost the movie a lot of money just like the second variable but I think days in theaters has a positive relationship with gross revenue. The table above is a descriptive statistics analysis of 30 random box office movies from 2016. The average domestic gross revenue is around 62.96 million while the average of the production budget is around 59.37 million. On average, all the movies stay in the theaters for about 73.5 days and in a mean of 2781 theaters. The regression equation is: R2 is .7418 which means that 74.18% of domestic gross revenue can be explained by the 3 variables. The first intercept in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well the world we used to know is changing ladies and gentleman, what used to be a fun night out going to the movie theater with friends or a date night with your significant other may have to fight for its life to survive. With 50 million subscribers worldwide, Netflix is giving movie theaters a run for their money. With easy access, many subscribers are able to reach Netflix right in their natural habitat: sitting in the comfort of their home in front of their TVs. Netflix gains thousands of subscribers every year, compared to where it was a few years ago, many theaters believe that movies available to stream at home is a big threat. Home media has changed drastically over the decades, there are no more video rental shops, thanks to how much technology and the Internet have improved over the past few years. Throughout most of our lives, we have accepted the fact that whenever a movie comes out, the only way to watch it is through theater first. With the innovation of Netflix, we are able to experience entertainment in a different way. Although the debate of whether or not going to the movie theaters rather than staying home and watching Netflix is still in question, unequivocally the answer is yes. While having Netflix has been a blessing to the antisocial community, nothing on your home TV screen or laptop screen will compare to an 80 ft. movie screen and hundreds of speakers. • 29. Why Piracy Laws Must Be Changed Prepare to be Boarded: Why Piracy Laws Must Be Changed From the moment consumers were able to use the internet to get music, software, and movies, piracy has had serious financial implications for the motion picture industry. Copyright protection presents some difficulty in illegally obtaining movies, but there are many avenues around most of these systems. The RIAA, or Recording Industry Association of America, has tried several legal ploys to prevent people from accessing this material, but many consumers continue to access it with little concern. Much like the music industry, which was challenged to reinvent its distribution model, the movie industry has to do the same thing. To counter the amount of piracy the movie studios must develop new systems for content delivery including streaming new release movies at home. First, the current system of forcing consumers to go to a movie theater is no longer desirable for many. Entertainment seekers can now get almost instant access to desired content, whether it's music or movies via streaming services like Netflix. These services exist due to the demand for them and to satiate the desire for content when and where the customer wants it. While my generation patiently grew up waiting for Thursday night for The Cosby Show the current generation is not oriented around content on a television or at a specific date and time. When a person pays for a movie ticket, they understand the possibility of not receiving the ideal seating. Most movie theaters operate on a first come first served basis. In my estimation, the appropriate spacing between people at a movie theater is one seat. I don't have a problem sitting next to a stranger in a movie theater with one seat separating us. I understand sometimes sitting next to a stranger in inevitable, I have had to do it many times. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most people are not going to be able to experience wizard magic, space, or getting stuck on a sinking ship. A lesson can be learned from any situation, whether it's what to do, or not to do. Another positive is that movies teach diversity. These popular commercial films are full of different ideas, people, and elements. When people watch diverse movies, it allows them to become more open and accepting in our everyday lives. A negative aspect is the violence that is included in these movies. Children and teens have seen these movies and get the ideas in their heads that it is okay to emulate these actions. Young minds are malleable, which could lead to different problems in the future of these young people. Another negative aspect of these movies is that they distract from life. This could also be a good thing because people need breaks sometimes, but we can't be distracted all of the time. If we had a choice between working and entering a world unlike our own through movies, most people would probably choose to be somewhere else mentally. 3. Most may think of the delicious, perfectly cooked, buttered popcorn, and huge movie screen with surround sound. While others may think of the obnoxiously loud atmosphere and inconvenient show times. Everyone has their opinion on which movie viewing option they think is better; the movie theater, or home. When it "boils down" to the facts, it is not hard to see why staying at home is the prefered movie–watching experience over the the movie theater experience, the reasons why this may be so is the cost, the inconvenience of show times, and viewing options The Cost The first point to consider is the cost. Movie theater tickets and concession prices are always on the rise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Show Times Another point to consider is the inconvenient show times. Often, movie theater showtimes seem to be impossible to work around or plan for. This can especially be the case for people who work a job during the day. For example, if a woman wanted to go see a movie with her friend after work, the planning around the movie theater showtimes becomes very tedious quickly. If the woman gets off at five, then that automatically knocks out the 5:00 movie viewing time. The next available show time isn't until 7:30, but she has work the next day and she needs to get home at a decent hour in the day. Therefore she has to cancel her plans with her friend solely due to the fact that the movie theater only had certain viewing times that weren't catering to her schedule. On the contrary, show times at home are a "24–7" deal. Anytime a person feels like watching a movie at home is the perfect time. We are able to watch virtually any movie at any time with the click of a remote button or the tap of an app on our smart phones. Therefore, making the home movie viewing experience the ultimate choice because of the convenient "24–7" showtimes. The Viewing Options The last point to consider is the viewing options. Piracy is defined by Dictionary.com as, "the unauthorized reproduction or use of a copyrighted book, recording, television program, patented invention, trademarked product, etc." Therefore, a pirated movie is when a movie is released without the owner or person that got the material copy righted it knowing or consenting to the release. Movie piracy is unethical because it skews the box office financial numbers, decreases the chance for sequels, and hurts the theaters, even though it does provide a means for people that are less likely to go to the theaters. The movie box office ranks movies by how much it grosses in the theater over the span of time that it is in theaters. The span of time can be by day, month, or year. However, we must first understand that when you watch, receive, or supply a pirated movie there is no money made by the production company. For instance, the movie may have been seen by five thousand people but if two thousand people view pirated copies then the number reported will be the profit brought in by the three thousand people. When you look at the numbers three thousand may seem large but when you think about a movie ticket being nine dollars you will only be making $2.7 million of the $4.5 million that the movie would have made in the theaters. The money that the movies make goes back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That man was Richard Milton Hollingshead, Jr., born on February 25, 1900, the "father" of the drive–in. The drive–in got its humble beginnings in the driveway of Hollingshead's Riverton, New Jersey home, at 212 Thomas Avenue. This is where his first experimentations took place. Setting a 1928 Kodak projector on the hood of the family car, he projected the film onto a screen he had nailed to a tree. He tested the potential hazards of foul weather by turning on his lawn sprinkler to simulate a rainstorm. His home radio sitting behind the screen to provide sound, Hollingshead sat in his car watching and listening. The car windows up or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pennsauken Township was the location. The theater was called the Automobile Movie Theatre. The marquee simply stated "Drive–in Theatre." Opening night drew a full house. Many were there for free, however, as Hollingshead and Smith had distributed free passes to as many local media as they could. The first film ever shown at a drive–in was the 1932 release Wife Beware, starring Adolphe Menjou. The partners complained they were not able to obtain a first–run film from a distributor. This was due to the fear that the gate at indoor houses would be lessened. This problem would plague drive–ins forever. Many shorts accompanied the feature. Admission was twenty–five cents per person. Three or more in a car were admitted for the price of one dollar. Initially the plan was to have three shows a night. There would be one at 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30 P.M. But in order to fit all shows in, films had to be edited. This system did not work well. Apparently the partners realized this mistake early; for after only the second night, the schedule was changed to only two shows a night. Now there would be one at 8:45 and 10:45 P.M. The program changed twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. The two men also learned early on about the difficulties in preparing a quality scheduling format. The films had to be started early enough to allow time to fit both in, but late enough to be visible against the fading sunlight of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Case Study Movie Exhibition Industry Essay Strategic Analysis of Movie Exhibition Industry By: Kim Saline February 24, 2010 Objective: To provide an analysis and make recommendations to increase revenue in the movie exhibition industry. Overview: Ticket sales for movie theaters are at their lowest point since 1996. With the core demographic group expected to grow slower than the US population and with technological advances growing at speeds faster than the industry can keep up, ticket sales will continue to decline if the current business strategy continues to be followed. Concession sales and ticket sales are the two biggest sources of revenue for a movie theater. They also initiate the contracts with the theaters and negotiate the percentage of box office sales they will receive. Many of the distribution companies are integrating with the production studios because the need for distribution is diminishing with the conversion to digital. This makes these suppliers a strong force. On the concession side the bargaining power is weak due to economies of scale. Theaters earn most of their profits on concessions so they use their power to reduce their costs from their suppliers. 4. The bargaining power of buyers: The outlook for the target market isn't favorable for the movie industry because it will not be growing as fast as the overall population. Buyer power is a strong force because of the target market and several other factors including: the undifferentiated product offered, switching to an alternative is simple and low cost, and customers can stay home and watch movies. The consumers are also complaining about concession and ticket costs, along with the advertisements before the film is shown. 5. The threat of substitutes: This is the strongest force of competitive pressure that the movie exhibition industry faces. Not only are they competing among each other but they have to compete with every leisure activity a consumer has to choose from. Consumers are also investing in home theaters. TV's are bigger than ever and have digital and 3D capability. As the costs of all the components go down consumers are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As many of us have experienced, theater seats are typically not the most comfortable, especially when it is compared to your new $700 recliner from Bed, Bath and Beyond. Also, since you are in the comfort of your own home, there is no immature child sitting behind you constantly kicking the back of your seat, or strangers next to you who like to claim the arm rests for themselves and leave you wedged uncomfortably into your seat. Also, regarding the crowd in a theater, people have a tendency to disregard the instructions of turning off all cell–phones and refraining from talking during the film to ensure that all paying viewers can enjoy the film. For other viewers the constant bright light of a phone screen or conversation occurring next to them can ruin the movie and their evening. • 69. Movies At Home Vs Movies According to Redbox, the average person will watch 5,000 movies in his or her lifetime (Smith). I believe the reason for that is because a movie is the art of one's imagination coming to life on a screen. The two most common places to see these masterpieces are either in someone's home or a movie theater. Depending on the person, where they watch a movie can change their opinion on the film itself. A movie theater and a home can have similarities, but when people decide where to see a movie, the decision is based on differences such as costs, comfort, and immersiveness. For the most part, the cost of a movie is one of the main deciding factors on if a person wants to see a movie in a theater or rent it. Some people enjoy staying at home to watch a movie. Renting a movie may be the best option depending on who the person is. It may only cost around three to five dollars to rent a movie. This can help save the viewer some money as when renting a movie, you only have to pay for it once rather than a certain number of tickets for the entire group. Along with renting a movie, someone who is watching a movie at home may only have to pay one to ten dollars to feed the group. On the other hand, some people enjoy the theater. Netflix and Hulu have become some of the easiest and most affordable ways for college students to watch television. While these massive online streaming companies advertise affordability, and vast amount of viewing options, other major entertainment companies are beginning to take notice. "They're being able to release high quality movie content and original shows that are being able to rival anything that is being made for theaters," Paul McFerron, Employee of the Branson Meadow's Cinema's, told me last week. McFerron, having worked at the cinema for over a year now, has noticed a slight decline in the attendance at the theater. Plus, if the film is in 3D, then you are looking at a 12–15–dollar ticket, and add however much you want with concessions. The prices are steep, and I understand why some people are passing on theaters." "The option of being able to stay in the comfort of your own home is very appealing to people right now. People go to the movies to watch all the new movies with the company of either their girlfriend or boyfriend, a group of friends, or with family. There are many qualities one has to think about when they are choosing a location to watch a movie. They have two options, a Cinemax theater or a Drive In theater. A Drive In theater tends to have more qualities when watching a move rather than a Cinemax. Although a Cinemax theater does have some qualities of interest a Drive In theater seems more valuable. For one, the Drive in is inexpensive compared to a Cinemax theater. The customer gets to watch two movies for the price of one at a Drive in unlike the Cinemax theater where you only watch one movie for one price. Secondly, at a Cinemax theater they do not let their customers bring their own food from outside therefore, you have to buy their pricey food. While at the Drive In anybody is welcomed to bring any type of outside food into the theater area. Thirdly, in a Cinemax theater one is in a building with a large amount of other people and at a Drive In a person is in their own car with people they do know. There are times when someone would like to go watch a movie but, price tickets can be a bit too expensive. The actual date of the theater's opening varies among sources, the most often cited being April 2nd, 6th, and 16th. Before Tally's Electric Theatre, motion pictures were often exhibited in existing storefronts or vaudeville theaters. Tally's was the first building constructed for the sole purpose of showing movies. The theater was open from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm in the beginning, but Tally added matinee showtimes to accommodate its many customers. Screenings were often sold out, no matter the time or day. Tally's initial success spurred on the wave of construction of more movie theaters, about 3,000 in the U.S. by 1907 and 10,000 by 1910. It is also worth noting that Tally's Electric Theatre was not a nickelodeon. Since then, films have been a huge part of society. However, what made films so successful, was where they were being showed. The movie theater gave a certain magical touch to the movie that encouraged everyone to come see a film for themselves. In Chicago especially, movie theaters were extravagant and ornate, and were referred to as "Movie Palaces" because they were so grand. The importance of movie theaters throughout history is a topic which exhibits all three E's in Chicago for the 2015–2016 Chicago National History Fair. It depicts the first "E", "Exploration," with how the movie theater companies explored different ways to attract customers from all backgrounds in Chicago, even through difficult situations. The second "E", "Encounter," is shown when the theater owners realized that seeing a movie can be an escape for many people during hard times and an inspirational experience through the exotic architecture of other cultures. The final "E", "Exchange", is represented through the exchange of information from the movie theaters to the people with architecture from all over the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 118. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Movie Movies Technological advances have changed most of the industries and commercial markets in the world. One of the industries that have gone through a major transformation is the Movie Theater industry. This industry has been around for quite some time, it was created in the early 1900s for entertainment. The 20th century was all about innovating the way movies were produced and reproduced. However, it is this same characteristic which is lacking today and will lead it to its downfall. The problem now in the 21st century is that people are now going less and less to the movie theater. The box office ticketing hit its high on the 1980s and continued stabled through the 1990s, but in the last fifteen years the number of people visiting the theaters a year has decreased significantly. There are several reasons why this is happening. One is that now there are a larger variety of methods of entertainment that came from the development of diverse gadgets and the vast distribution of the Internet. These platforms or devices just as smartphones, tablets, and laptops allow the viewer to watch reality television, television series and movies at any location where the Internet is available. High price tickets is a factor most people consider for decreasing their visits, even though college students and young working adults are the ones who consider it the most. They found the prices not only for the ticket but also for the snacks really expensive except teenagers who really do not mind this factor. Motion picture industry consists of three stages: studio production, distribution, and exhibition. The studios produce the lifeblood of the industry, the films that are its content. The biggest players at this level are the majors, big studios which integrate production and distribution, as do the slightly smaller mini–majors. The next stage is distribution. Distributors are the intermediaries between the studios and exhibitors. Distribution entails all steps following a film's artistic completion including marketing, logistics, and administration. Distributors coordinate the manufacture and distribution of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competition between theaters often comes down to distance from home, convenience of parking and proximity of restaurants. Innovations by one theater chain are quickly adopted by others. The differing approaches of the theater chain companies are reflected in their cost of fixed assets per screen. Concession sales and ticket sales are the two biggest sources of revenue for a movie theater but the exhibitors has limited control over both revenues and profits because those two are important aspects. Attendance allows for profitable sales of concessions and advertisements, but there are significant caps on the volume of concession sales per person, and selling price seem to have reached a maximum. Both continue to increase in cost to the consumers and may have reached a price point that is starting to drive consumers away from going to see a movie. With the advancements in home entertainment systems, consumers are investing thousands of dollars into their own home viewing systems. They have several options to stream video content into the comfort of their own homes. Home entertainment systems have also made a large impact on the theater industry. In 2005, this technological advancement was the most sought after electronic system for new homes. It seems that consumers have finally said no to the rising price of movie tickets and concession stand snacks and beverages. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 134. Essay On The Pros And Cons Of Watching A Movie Vs Watching... Going to watch a movie or watching at home really only boils down to personal preference. The film industry is so vast, there are so many different genres as well as ways to access these films. The destination in which someone wants to watch a particular film depends on what they want out of their own movie watching experience. There are pros and cons to going to watch a movie as well as watching at home. Regarding screen–size, going to watch a movie typically means larger and better quality screens than one might have at their own home. These large screens allow the viewers to completely immerse themselves into the film itself. Watching a movie on a 30 to 90–foot movie theater screen or even a 20–foot projector at an outdoor movie can sound much more appealing than watching on a 40 to 60–inch television. However, this is all proportionally based on how far away the viewer is from the screen, theaters are designed to fit the views their customers will be watching from, but outdoor movies and living room setups are not always as technically proportioned. Outside there may only be room left farther away from the screen leading to a less desirable movie viewing experience, and in one's own living room it may not be set up in a way that allows for pleasurable movie viewing, for example, their television may be too small for how far away their couch is. Regardless, the way movie theaters are set up limits the distractions one may have while watching in theaters. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 138. Movie Theater Experience Experiencing Film in Theaters Watching movies is probably one of my favorite activities, it does not matter if the movie good or bad; I just want to watch them. I loved going to the theaters as a kid because the entire experience was always so exciting, especially since it was the first thing my mother let me do out on my own. Going to the movies had always been a blessing but as I have grown I have made an effort to go less often. While the experience is still the same I just notice just how bad the overall experience can be as well. Honestly, the best part of watching a movie in theaters is the movie theater experience; for example the seats, the popcorn, the large screen, the sound system, the people, and the new releases. It is not just you in your room watching a movie, it is you reacting to the film and to the people around you around you as well, all the while getting all these over the top elements as well. Movie going takes a common experience and amplifies it so it feels like you're getting something even greater. Plus, my favorite part for any film has always been the trailers; the exciting bits and pieces of coming films thrown together to entice future visits. With fast paced action and cliffhanging details that are thrown in the 2–3 minute time frame, I am left wanting to come back and see that movie when it comes out. It is how they reel me in and keep me coming back in regular intervals. I have also gotten really into staying for the credits as well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Study Of Millennials ' Methods Of Movie Consumption It has been apparent that in the past few years, the number of people attending movie theaters has continued to decrease (MPAA, 2014; Harris Poll, 2014.) With various digital streaming sites like Netflix continuing to increase in consumption, (Kuittinen, 2015) people have become less motivated to go to movie theaters because of the feasibility and convenience of watching movies on various devices (Kuittinen, 2015.) According to the MPAA's Theatrical Market Statistics 2014, there was a significant decrease in the number of movie tickets sold, by 6% (MPAA, 2014.) with only 1.26 billion tickets (MPAA, 2014; Tweedie, 2015; The Numbers, 2015.) Should we really sneak food in the movie theater & not worry about it? We shouldn't sneak in food,it causes disruption in the movie & one may be allergic to the food you're bringing into the movies & smell may cause sensitivity to people's nose during the movies. (that'd be horrible). One of my 3 arguments would have to be, the people who make everything good happen in the movie theater's,and need to get paid, they rely on the concession stands. My second argument would have to be,the theater will eventually shut down because,we are sneaking in food, from outside of the concession stands. • 154. The Movie Theater, Carmike Cinemas, And True Love Essay Awkward first dates are the worst. Sometimes though, the outcome can bloom into something more beautiful. The movie theater, Carmike Cinemas, in their Coke Commercial, "Here's To The Movies, and True Love," represents that true love can transpire in the most awkward of ways. Carmike Cinemas' purpose is to convey the idea that true love can happen anywhere, but also portrays a sense of persuasion to encourage these first dates to take place at the movie theater with the purchase of a Coca–Cola. They adopt a romantic tone in order to connect with young lovers or single men and women to encourage their first dates to be at the movie theater. This will lead to true love by night's end. Carmike Cinemas' Coke Commercial: "Here's To The Movies, and True Love" illustrates symbolism, anecdote, and nostalgic flashback to show a view of true love and how it can be a simply blissful first date thanks to Coca–Cola and the movie theater. Carmike Cinemas begins by using symbolism to demonstrate the disastrous events occurring prior to buying a Coca–Cola and popcorn at the movie theater. Carmike Cinemas narrates, "Did I really ruin your dress?" (Here's To The Movies). The husband adds, "[...] and the rain wasn't helping anything" (Here's To The Movies). He laughs embarrassingly, "I couldn't get anything to go right" (Here's To The Movies). Carmike Cinemas uses Coca–Cola as an important product in this couple's relationship.
