2. Tan Le
How is it that an immigrant, with a
very poor start, ended like this?...
3. An immigrants tale..
Le, as a toddler was an
immigrant, and forced
to endure a very
difficult boat trip along
with her grandmother,
mother, and sister in
search for a better life.
4. The attention bait.
Tan was very firm in her introduction, and
getting the attention with a question.
Her posture throughout her speech was direct,
and emotional. I myself just wanted to listen
to her story.
5. “Thou shall not flaunt thine ego. Be thou vulnerable.
Speak of thy failure as thy success.”
Best of out the ten commandments, I believe
Tan follows the sixth one the best. She does
not boast, or gloat, but is more than willing to
say the hard life that paved her to a better
one.
6. “nearly one quarter (23.8%) of the 70 million children under
the age of 17 in 2009 had at least one immigrant parent”
7. The way emotion, and feeling
Dynamism? 5+ !!! was put forth on her
speech was just incredible,
although sad, it was one of
those speeches where it
Le tearing up on her speech at TED. shines a light on any cold
hearted person.
8. Speech deliverance.
The way Tan spoke, and the clarity with no
“uhm” and pauses made her speech all
the more clear, and the better to get to
her main point of the story, where as I,
have issues in doing the exact opposite.
“thou shall tell a story…”
9. Although Mr. Robinson’s topic, is very different to
Le’s, they both deliver their speech in a separate
manner. Robinson used humor in parts of his speech,
when Le used emotion. Both very effective and
great. I ENJOYED both videos and like Matt Helmkey
said; “keep the audience starving and hungry for
more”
Tan Le Sir Ken Robinson
10. Tan Le now is the founder, and CEO of Emotiv
Lifestyle, she has developed a headset that reads
brainwaves.
“there were rare but searing chants of ‘slit eye’ and the occasional graffiti of ‘Asian, go
home.’ Go home to where?”
11. Tips & Things #1
Something that I notice that may help my fellow
class mates, is that eye contact is key, as it
helps build communication and make the
listener more close to your speech
12. Tips & Things #2
Another helpful tip is actually in one of the
commandments, and one to which I think we
all can relate. That would be commandment
#2; “thou shall dream a great dream…” Yes,
we all have a goal, and we need to act on it,
and make the right decisions in order to
achieve it.
13. Reynolds Tips.
Garr was very fluent on his presentation, and it
was very helpful to also understand that
simplicity, and clarity can help get the
message across with more success.
