Last week, the Boston City Council Committee on Education and Committee on Ways and Means
held a hearing to discuss the fiscal impacts of Ballot Question 2, which proposes the approval of up
to 12 new charter schools every year statewide, in Boston. It was greatly emphasized that the
passing of Question 2 will not simply impact educational matters, but will also affect communities
and city services at large.

transferred 160 acres of land to john lathers in the 1800's. The city was patterned after the "Garden

Cyberbullying is "when the Internet, cell phones, or other devices are used to send or post text or
images intended to hurt or embarrass another person" (NCPC, 2016). With millions of young
people, particularly teenagers, frequenting the Internet to do class work and socialize, cyberbullying,
or online bullying, has become a serious cause for concern. First, with the advent of technology
being integrated into public schools, some young people are creating online identities and
anonymously posting images or harassing messages intended to harm others. These kinds of
harassing online behaviors are being reported at schools in many U.S. states (Davis, 2012). As a
result, "Thirty–eight states have bullying laws that include a ban on 'electronic harassment' in their
provisions, and 14 states have laws that expressly prohibit cyberbullying" (Davis, 2012).
Next, rumors are easily spread in online interactive forums and on popular social media websites
such as Facebook and MySpace. In one instance, three Massachusetts students created a fake
Facebook page using the real identity of a classmate to publish negative comments about students
enrolled at the school. Angered students then mocked and teased the student who had fallen victim
to these three students. The issue created a legal quagmire for the school principal, who did not have
a cyberbullying policy in place and needed to take immediate steps to rectify this unfortunate

Governors Associations Center for Best Practices (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School
Officers (CCSSO) with hopes to create a nationwide standards commonly known as Common Core

How Writing Has Changed Throughout The Past Century
The nature of writing has changed in the past century. While writing still remains a form of visual
communication, much of this change has been a result of technological advancements such as, from
pen to paper or from a typewriter to a networked computer. The changes and expansion in the ways
we are able to write today have brought about changes in writing pedagogy as well. The teaching of
writing has been part of formal schooling in the United States for over 200 years (Kean 7). One
major pedagogic change in United States' education has to do with the implementation of the

schools. This paper, will focus on instructional changes of writing over time and current
expectations for writing abilities as whole.
The earliest finding of when a focus was placed on writing instruction can be traced to an
interdisciplinary conference on writing research in 1978 at Carnegie Mellon University (MacArthur,
Graham, and Fitzgerald 187). In 1980, the research presented at the conference was published in the
book "Cognitive Processes in Writing" which lead to an increased interest in the cognitive nature of
writing. One model of writing instruction presented in this book asks adults to "think out loud when

Progressivism Is An Educational Philosophy Essay
When one walks into a classroom, they normally see a line of desks all facing the same direction so
that the students may view the board in the front of the room where they will review the lecture that
is planned. There is a desk for a teacher to sit at in the corner and normally a clock and a poster or
two that has some sort of inspirational quote. Every elementary class that I have been in has been
the same. Year after year we usher our children into an unchanging room so that they can sit, be
quiet, and try to absorb maybe three percent of what you show them on the projector, but that is not
how I believe that our students should learn. According to what I believe, I would be considered a
progressivist. I want my students to be able to take a lesson and apply it to their lives. Progressivism
is an educational philosophy emphasizing real–world problem solving and individual development
(Eggen & Kauchak, 2008). There should never be a student asking why they have to learn
something because you should have already explained to them in detail as to why it pertains to their
lives. I also believe that students should be free to move around and communicate with one another

Chief Justice Earl Warren accomplished a great deal before finally being appointed as the Chief
Justice. He was elected as the Governor of California, and served three consecutive terms of office.
In his early years he was the District Attorney in California and also served as the Attorney General
of California. In his time as a District Attorney Warren earned himself a reputation for being tough
on crime, he soon gained a statewide reputation as a tough, no–nonsense district attorney who
fought corruption in government. Chief Justice Earl Warren was appointed by president Dwight D.
Eisenhower in 1953 after Warren lost to Eisenhower and Richard Nixon in the election. Earl Warren
was a right wing republican but ended up being more liberal on the Supreme Court than anyone had
every expected. He presided over some very significant cases that will be discussed below. The

Common Core continues to have many teachers in an uproar, but the development of these
standards was to help synchronize curriculum across the United States to ensure that students were
college and career ready once they graduated high school. In 2009, the National Governors
Association Center for Best Practices and Council of Chief State School Officers (2010) were
responsible for developing the Common Core standards. These groups were two private
organizations that consisted of 48 state leaders, two territories, and the District of Columbia.
The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and Council of Chief State School
Officers (2010) states that the actual development of the Common Core standards were completed
in two phases. Phase one of the development of the Common Core standards was the college and
career readiness portion of the standards. The standards were revealed and given and met over allow

emanated from religious beliefs, rather than from written secular rules mandating certain behavior.
The basic tenet of religious belief that guided tribal life was the maintenance of harmony. The
Cherokee people lived by a clearly defined pattern and structure to their lives, sustained by age–old
customs, rituals, beliefs, ceremonies, and symbols that guided the "rightful" and "eternal" order of
things. They believed that there was no aspect of life free from spiritual meaning and thus Cherokee
life was "woven together into a unified pattern of religious rules and connections involving harmony
with the world above, the world below, and the world around." The manifestation of this social and
religious synchronisms was the mutual submission to "customary procedures exercised by clearly
defined groups, such as the clans" (Carroll). Fundamentally, Cherokee law was not based on
individual responsibility or public wrongs but on clan relationships and clan wrongs. Clan
procedures plainly defined who could act, when he or she could act, and what form his or her action
should take. The Clans were also responsible for punishing any wrongdoings or rule breaking. In
most cases the clans were the judge, jury, and in extreme circumstances, the executioners. One such
extreme circumstance might be in the instance of a purposeful or accidental death of a member of
one clan at the hands of a member of another clan. The clan of the member who was killed had the
duty to seek restitution for the loss. Simply put, when one Cherokee killed another Cherokee, their
respective clans would settle the matter internally through restitution. The one to die in return for the

In Indiana, the number of imprisoned African American men is about 395 of the total population of
adult male inmates in the state. On the other hand, 27% of the incarcerated females are the African
Americans, while 58% of the juveniles' prison populations include the African Americans (Davis,
2015). Evidently, the arrest and incarceration rate for the blacks in Indiana is considerably high.
Regardless of the increasing racial profiling in Indiana, the General Assembly in 2016 forwarded a
