Environmental Impacts Of Landslides
Landslides are among the most common natural hazards and are the most damaging, leading to a
variety of human and environmental impacts. Landslide is the result of a wide variety of processes
which include geological, geomorphologic, and meteorological factors. Landslides triggering factors
including geological, hydrological, topographical factors and loading conditions. From Garg to the
Himalayas, covering an area of 30% of the world's long land, resulting in a large number of different
and complex physical properties, which are popular in extreme weather conditions, weather, and
harsh weather conditions. In many places, national highways, especially 108, are hit annually. As a
result, there was a serious problem of destroying agricultural change. The land should provide the

Land consolidation is a geographical event that causes damage to infrastructure, loss of life,
turbulence and other transportation problems from small difficulties in social and economic
disasters. Losses from soil erosion are less than other natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods,
winds, etc. 1 Scraping is often an unlikely injury. Economic losses in the United States amount to 1–
2 billion US dollars and 25 to 50 deaths. In China, direct economic losses amount to about $ 1.3
billion, with about 9,000 deaths 3, and the annual loss of $ 150 million.
Many parts of Jammu & Kashmir are vulnerable to landslides. The Jammu–Srinagar National
Highway gets blocked at a number of places during the monsoons, due to landslides. The landslides
occurrences have caused several accidents in the past and have taken a heavy toll on human lives
and properties and it is a major threat at present and in future too. The NH–1A passes through the
steep slopes of the Himalayas. Past records indicate that more than 100 fatalities have occurred in a
span of 10 years. The present paper is an attempt to study an area on NH–1A which is
simultaneously affected by landslides and the adoption of remedial measures for it.
DESCRIPTION OF THE STUDY AREA:
The study area is located in the state of Jammu & Kashmir along the National Highway(NH–1A),

Kashmir Issue
These claims are often reinforced with partisan interpretation of history and selective evidence. The
real attitude and concrete policies towards the dispute, however, are often governed by perception of
short term "national interests" as defined by dominant political elite of the two countries the interests
that apparently are irreconcilable and non–negotiable.
While each side sticks to its claims over Kashmir, the Kashmiri Muslims continue to pay a heavy
price for their defiant struggle against overwhelming odds in order to exercise their right of self
determination. For more than half a century the Kashmiris are oscillating between uncertainty and
destitution. They continue to suffer misery and repression under illegal Indian ... Show more content

75 lac. Hence onward the Muslim population of Kashmir came under continuous torment of the
cruel Sikh rulers. They tried to strengthened their hold on the State with the singular aim of
shattering the will of their Muslim subjects, crushing their religious zeal. They cowed them down
into accepting the slavery of the Hindu minority.
The genesis of the Kashmir issue is that in August 1947, when partition of the sub–continent took
place, Lord Mountbatten, the viceroy of undivided India, influenced Radcliff into awarding the
predominantly Muslim district of Gurdaspur, situated in the East Punjab, to India. By this
treacherous act, admitted by Lord Mountbatten himself on nation wide British television, the cruel
Viceroy not only subjected a Muslim majority area to the cursed Hindu domination, it also sowed
the seed from which could crop up the domination of India on another predominantly Muslim State
Kashmir, because it is only through a narrow strap in the Gurdaspur district that India was linked
with Kashmir. The canker in no time cropped up into the "Kashmir Problem" that has ever since
proved to be a serious threat to the security of the South Asian region.
Pakistan has made a lot of efforts to break the strangled hold of India on Kashmir, including third
party's mediations but the fate of Kashmiris is

Why Travelling Is My Passion
"Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller." – Ibn Battuta. My passion is
learning about life through traveling and exploring new things. It excites me when I visit new
places, learn different cultures, and see other people live a life that is different from mine. I just love
to travel because it makes me realize that the world is so beautiful and there is so much to admire
and treasure. Furthermore, i love the feeling I get when I explore new ideas, histories, beliefs, and
sceneries. It not only increases my knowledge, but also helps me overcome problems that I am
dealing with. I get to experience life's problems, pleasures, and rise above my personal bubble to
become a better person through exploring new cultures. Travelling is my passion because it's an
activity that I am not afraid of pursuing. I learn more about myself and expand my horizons every
time I travel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Starting with the hot and dry climatic region of the India, one of the major city lying in this region is
Kutch. The Bhonga is a traditional construction type in the Kutch district of the Gujarat state in
India, which has a very high earthquake risk. A Bhonga consists of a single cylindrically shaped
room. The Bhonga has a conical roof supported by cylindrical walls. Bhonga construction has
existed for several hundred years. This type of house is quite durable and appropriate for prevalent
desert conditions. (Madusudan Choudhary, June 2002)

Kashmir Conflict Between Pakistan and India
KASHMIR CONFLICT BETWEEN PAKISTAN AND INDIA
The State of Jammu and Kashmir is situated between Pakistan and India. Among the key reasons for
tension between Pakistan and India is the key problem of Kashmir. Whereas Pakistan has repeatedly
termed this the "core issue" in its relationship with India, India has maintained that this matter was
settled with Kashmir's accession to India in October 1947. As far as India has been concerned,
therefore, the only issue for discussion has been what India regards as Pakistan's continuing illegal
occupation of part of Jammu and Kashmir, an occupation that began in 1947–48, during the war
between the two. About 63 per cent of the territory is under Indian occupation; while the rest, 37 per
cent, is with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the above mentioned facts, neither Pakistan nor India wants to lose Kashmir. In 1947, India
and Pakistan went to war over Kashmir. During the war, it was India which first took the Kashmir
dispute to the United Nations on 1 January 1948 The following year, on 1 January 1949, the UN
helped enforce ceasefire between the two countries. The ceasefire line is called the Line of Control.
It was an outcome of a mutual agreement between India and Pakistan that the UN Security Council
(UNSC) and UN Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP) passed several resolutions in years
following the 1947–48 war. The UNSC Resolution of 21 April 1948 one of the principal UN
resolutions on Kashmir––stated that "both India and Pakistan desire that the question of the
accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India or Pakistan should be decided through the democratic
method of a free and impartial plebiscite".
India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru made a pledge to resolve the Kashmir dispute in
accordance with the UN resolutions. The sole criteria to settle the issue, he said, would be the
"wishes of the Kashmir people". A pledge that Prime Minister Nehru started violating soon after the
UN resolutions was passed. In 1965, India and Pakistan once again went to war over Kashmir. A
cease–fire was established in September 1965. Indian Prime Minister Lal Bhadur Shastri and
Pakistani president Ayub Khan signed the Tashkent Declaration on 1 January

Analysis Of Riverbank Filteration In India
Sandhu et al.,(2011)worked on potential of riverbank filteration in India and found that the
abstracted water from all the RBF wells in Haridwar only requires disinfection by chlorination, and

exploitation of them. In uttarakhand there are certain RBF sites are existing but either they are not
sufficient to meet the effective clean water supply or not consciuosly exploited.(Sandhu et

Uttarakhand with proper monitoring and quality checks to meet water scarcity and providing proper
water supply to the areas devoid of proper drinking water.

Analysis Of The Book ' Gold Leaves Brings Alive '
DISCUSSION
The history of Kashmir is replete with episodes like political un–stability, genocide, custodial
killings, torture, arbitrary–arrests, arson, bloodshed, mass rapes, bloodshed, and enforced
disappearances. However, people of Kashmir have demonstrated a distinct resistance for their
existence and self determination. The dispute evolved over the unfulfilled promise of plebiscite
regarding Kashmirs' status that further strained its relation with India. In 1987, after the faulty
elections were held in Kashmir, it was "ensured that the last viable avenue for the expression of
political discontent was blocked" (Ganguly 92). The early resistance of 1990's "when massive
demonstrations for azaadi (freedom) broke out in the city of Srinagar and other Valley towns, and
panicked federal paramilitary police sent by New Delhi to contain the unrest opened fire, killing
hundreds of protesters" (Bose 179) led to the full–fledged resistance movement. Mirza Waheed's

Essay On A Trip To Kashmir
There's a beautiful quote by Marcus Tullius Cicero saying that "The pursuit, even of the best things,
ought to be calm and tranquil." Many people say that to get rid of your boring daily routine, it is
important that you take some day off and visit a beautiful place. It will not only prove to be
recreational but also you can get to know something interesting about the culture and heritage of that
place. I've been on a vacation to many places but there's one which no one can resist going to–
Kashmir.
Down my memory lane, I recall that it was two years ago when all of a sudden my dad decided to go

We received a pleasant welcome from the locals of Kashmir. Due to the fact that it had been
snowing in Kashmir for the past two days, the temperature had fallen to –3oC. It was so cold outside
that we just couldn't bear the water. It was freezing cold!
Furthermore, I being the delicate darling of our family, my mom was worried that this fall in
temperature could make me fall sick. So the very next moment I was piled up with a bundle of warm
clothes. As we reached Kashmir during the night, we had to stay in the hotel for the next few hours.
Though the climate was quite chilly in the beginning, till the next morning I got very much adapted
to it.
The very next day, we decided to go on a city tour of Kashmir. Water in its peculiar form, charmed
Kashmir to the core. From beautiful springs to huge lakes, water has been the most vital part of
Kashmir's beauty. It is said that once emperor Jahangir, of the Mughal Dynasty had stated that
Kashmir is vowed to be the paradise on Earth. And yes it is true. Visiting Kashmir makes you feel as

The Shankaracharya Sanctuary
The Shankaracharya Sanctuary otherwise called the Jyesteshwara sanctuary or Pas–Pahar by
Buddhists, is arranged in the Zabarwan Mountain in Srinagar, Kashmir.
It is committed to Master Shiva.
The sanctuary is on the summit of the same name at a stature of 1,000 feet (300 m) over the plain
and sits above the city of Srinagar.
History and advancement
The sanctuary goes once again to 200 BC, despite the fact that the present structure likely goes over
to the ninth century Advertisement.
It was gone to by Adi Shankara and has after been connected with him; this is the means by which
the hill/temple got the name Shankaracharya.
It is additionally viewed as holy by Buddhists.
The Shiv ling was put inside by Adi Shankaracharya on his visit to Kashmir; it turned into a Hindu
sanctuary.
As stated by Pandit Anand Koul (1924) the sanctuary was initially assembled by "Sandiman" who,
as stated by Koul, ruled in Kashmir from 2629 to 2564 BC.
It was repaired by Lord Gopaditya (426–365 BC) and by Ruler Lalitaditya (697–734).2 Its top was
additionally repaired by Zain–ul–Abidin after a seismic tremor; later, its arch was repaired by Sheik
Ghulam Mohiuddin, a Sikh senator (1841–1846).
The most punctual chronicled reference to the mound originates from Kalhana. He called the
mountain Gopadri. Kalhana additionally says that Lord Gopaditya allowed the area at the foot of the
rise to the Brahmins that had hailed from the "Araya versh."

Theme Of V. S Naipaul
V.S. Naipaul is the second literary personality from Indian roots after Rabindranath Tagore to be
awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 2001. Most of the works of Naipaul deal with the theme of
isolation, frustration and negation in a colonized society which turns out to be cruel, villain and
hostile to the expectations and aspirations of the protagonist. He also deals with the clash of culture
between the old and the new in multi– racial society. Search for identity is the foundation upon
which the works of Naipaul stand. Fiction is an instrument of analysis for Naipaul. Perhaps, this is
the only reason why his literature revolves round the recurring themes of colonial phobia,
individual's search for identity and clash of culture. The identity of a ... Show more content on

He says that exile and home are the two faces of the same coin – the full meaning of one can be
grasped properly only in relation to the other. Home is not simply where one lives. It is one's
identity– national, cultural, spiritual. Home is where one belongs– it is the soil that has nurtured
one's body and spirit. Home is security, Exile, the loss of home. Home is a place where a man gets
solace and security. Home is the place with which we remain intimate even in moments of intense
alienation from it. In diasporic literature home varies from person to person. Vijay Mishra, a famous
critic has aptly shared his views regarding Indian diasporic writers on home which is quiet
appreciable here. He says: Their homeland is a series of objects, fragments of narrative that they
keep in their heads or in their suitcases. Like hawkers they can reconstitute their lives through the
contents of their knapsacks: a Ganapati icon, a dog–eared copy of the Gita or the Quran, an old sari

Reflection Paper
"We sleep safely at night because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would harm
us." –Winston Churchill. I do remember my late grandfather narrating alluring anecdotes from his
time in the Indian Air Force and a few of my late great grandfather's heroics while he served in the
British Army (1917–1946). I slowly started to develop a taste for war–time stories, military history
as a whole which always intrigued me, possibly because of my family lineage. I am always curious
to learn more about our past, about the mistakes made by our forefathers that however frivolous they
may seem or sound but were enough to instigate a war.
While reading through various military blogs, websites and books, I realized all these sources were
heavily biased in almost all the bipolar conflicts in the world, be it rivalries such as the India–
Pakistan, Israel–Palestine or ideologies such as communism vs. capitalism. And the most interesting
part of it is reading the same story from both the sides.
Three years ago, all of us (then ninth graders of my school) were tasked to dramatize an event of
history depicting dictatorship and the transition henceforth. So, I chose the oppressive regime of
General Batista leading to the revolutionary legend of Ernesto "Che" Guevara and while surfing the
web for information, stumbled upon the much discussed Cuban Missile Crisis. I read umpteenth

The Causes Of The Indo-Pakistani War Of 1947
The Indo–Pakistani war of 1947 was the very first war fought between the two counties over Jammu
and Kashmir. The war began when Pakistan sent troops from Waziristan into Kashmir in order to
obtain their land. When the king of Kashmir, Hari Singh, realized what Pakistan was doing to
Kashmir, he pleaded with India for help. "Tensions exploded in October 1947 when the Pathan
Muslims of Poonch rebelled against the Hindu landowners of Kashmir. On October 22, Pakistan
sent troops into the region, brutally taking Muzaffarabad and Uri, burning a swath of destruction
wherever they marched, and killing Hindu civilians,"("Indo–Pakistani War, 1947–1948,", n.d.).

Overview Of The Banking Industry Essay
1 OVERVIEW OF THE BANKING INDUSTRY
Introduction
India's banking sector has grown very fast over these years. India has a large web of banking it has
26 public sector banks, private sector consists of 20, and there are 43 foreign banks which is a good
sign for banking sector. Also it consists of 61 regional banks. There has been a noticeable expansion
in dealings through ATMs, and also with internet and mobile banking banks has shown tremendous
growth.
Indian Parliament in 2012 passed a bill know as (Banking Laws Amendment bill) which has made
banking easy in India and also opened doors for the entire world. This bill states that RBI is the only
body to make decisions regarding banks and it's the responsibility of RBI to make rules for banks.
In coming years the banking sector is estimated to generate up to 20 million jobs, with the help of
RBI and Indian government. Also, old way of doing banking operations will go gradually with the
modern technology. So banking sector is playing important role in Indian economy and also we will

The snow accumulation at Zojila pass is generally about 40–60 feet. Some of the captions below
provide an account of snow in these regions. In 2017, BRO provided an annual snow clearance grant
of INR 70 per cum for 2 lane roads in altitudes above 2400m. Considering that both these routes fall
in these altitudes, and assuming on average 5 m of snow cover on two 2–lane roads (7 m wide). The
cost of snow clearance operations combined for these two routes (474 km + 424 km) is around INR
2,200 Mn, besides there are additional grants for air support provided to ground staff for airlifting
persons, supplying fuel and spare parts and other things by helicopter. High altitude roads in heavy
snowfall areas experience a major drainage problem during spring thaw. The snow melt water flows
with tremendous velocity over the pavement, causing its erosion covered on either side by snow
accumulated on berms during snow clearance operations. The water released by thawing collects in
the centre of the pavement and the road itself acts as a drain. At times, this running snow melt water
freezes on the pavement and causes skidding. Thaw water penetrates through the potholes and
crevices in the pavement. When subsequent freezing occurs, this thaw also freezes and expands
causing damage to the pavement. This alternative cycle of road thawing and freezing is one of the
major causes of damage to the pavement in snow bound areas. BRO

translated, the word means embroidery. Believed to have been introduced by Nur Jehan, Mughal

KASHMIRI COLLECTION
Kashida of Kashmir
Kashmiri embroidery is well known for the beauty of its colour, texture, design and technique.
Probably, the best–known Indian embroidery is the 'Kashida of Kashmir'. This embroidery is
revealed in shawls and in cottage industry done by the members of families in Srinagar. Kashmiri
embroidery is practiced by men and it is essentially a commercial craft. | | According to Ramala S.
Dongekery, the shawl industry in Kashmir was introduced by Zain–ul–Abedin. Akbar was also
responsible for introducing a new type of shawl – the Dowshala meaning "Twin shawl". In this two
similar shawls were woven together, then sewn back to back. So the under surface of the shawls

##ortals Of Meluh The First Novel Of The Shiva Trilogy...
The Immortals of Meluha is the first novel of the Shiva trilogy series by Amish Tripathi. The story is
laid down in the land of Meluha and begins with the appearance of the Shiva. The Meluhans believe
that Shiva is their fabled saviour Neelkanth. Shiva decides to help the Meluhans in their war against
the Chandravanshis, who had joined forces with a cursed Nagas; however, during his journey and
the fight that ensues, Shiva realizes how his choices actually reflect who he aspires to be and how
they lead to dire consequences.
Tripathi had initially decided to write a book on the philosophy of evil, but having been discouraged
by his family members; he decided to write a book on Shiva, one of the Hindu Gods. He decided to
make a foundation of his story on a fundamental idea that all Gods were once human beings; it was
their endeavors in the human life that made them Gods. After completing The Immortals of Meluha,
Tripathi faced rejection from many publication houses. Ultimately when his agent decided to
publish the book himself, Tripathi embarked on a promotional campaign. It included posting a live–
action video on YouTube, and making the first chapter of the book available as a free digital
download, to tempt readers.
Finally, when the book was published in February 2010, it went on to become a huge commercial
success. It had to be reprinted a number of times to keep up with the demand. Tripathi even changed
his publisher and hosted a big launch for the book in Delhi. It was

allow a partial relaxation of the diamond/titanium thermal stresses by obliging the diamond nuclei

  • 15. Kashmir Conflict Between Pakistan and India KASHMIR CONFLICT BETWEEN PAKISTAN AND INDIA The State of Jammu and Kashmir is situated between Pakistan and India. Among the key reasons for tension between Pakistan and India is the key problem of Kashmir. Whereas Pakistan has repeatedly termed this the "core issue" in its relationship with India, India has maintained that this matter was settled with Kashmir's accession to India in October 1947. As far as India has been concerned, therefore, the only issue for discussion has been what India regards as Pakistan's continuing illegal occupation of part of Jammu and Kashmir, an occupation that began in 1947–48, during the war between the two. About 63 per cent of the territory is under Indian occupation; while the rest, 37 per cent, is with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the above mentioned facts, neither Pakistan nor India wants to lose Kashmir. In 1947, India and Pakistan went to war over Kashmir. During the war, it was India which first took the Kashmir dispute to the United Nations on 1 January 1948 The following year, on 1 January 1949, the UN helped enforce ceasefire between the two countries. The ceasefire line is called the Line of Control. It was an outcome of a mutual agreement between India and Pakistan that the UN Security Council (UNSC) and UN Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP) passed several resolutions in years following the 1947–48 war. The UNSC Resolution of 21 April 1948 one of the principal UN resolutions on Kashmir––stated that "both India and Pakistan desire that the question of the accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India or Pakistan should be decided through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite". India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru made a pledge to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions. The sole criteria to settle the issue, he said, would be the "wishes of the Kashmir people". A pledge that Prime Minister Nehru started violating soon after the UN resolutions was passed. In 1965, India and Pakistan once again went to war over Kashmir. A cease–fire was established in September 1965. • 19. Analysis Of The Book ' Gold Leaves Brings Alive ' DISCUSSION The history of Kashmir is replete with episodes like political un–stability, genocide, custodial killings, torture, arbitrary–arrests, arson, bloodshed, mass rapes, bloodshed, and enforced disappearances. However, people of Kashmir have demonstrated a distinct resistance for their existence and self determination. The dispute evolved over the unfulfilled promise of plebiscite regarding Kashmirs' status that further strained its relation with India. In 1987, after the faulty elections were held in Kashmir, it was "ensured that the last viable avenue for the expression of political discontent was blocked" (Ganguly 92). The early resistance of 1990's "when massive demonstrations for azaadi (freedom) broke out in the city of Srinagar and other Valley towns, and panicked federal paramilitary police sent by New Delhi to contain the unrest opened fire, killing hundreds of protesters" (Bose 179) led to the full–fledged resistance movement. Mirza Waheed's The Book of Gold Leaves brings alive the horrors of this period which have not yet ceased to haunt. Mirza Waheed is a contemporary English writer and a native of Kashmir. Being born and brought up in Kashmir he has witnessed the turmoil first hand and as such his novel The Book of Gold Leaves supports Barbara Harlow's assertion that: Resistance narratives embedded...in the historical and material conditions of their production and [contain] the allegiances and active participation of their authors...in the political events ...
