Festival El Bollo- Avilés

2. The festival of “ El Bollo ” has its origins at the
end of the 19 th century.
This is one of the three main festivals that Aviles
has. Even more important than the local festival (
San Agustin) and Carnival.
It represents a very important part of the
tradition in the city.
“El Bollo” celebrates spring arrival and the end of
the Holly Week , between Palm Sunday and
Easter Monday.
It was declared a Festival of National Interest
Tourist in 1972.
3. The name of festival comes
from a butter cake, a typical
dessert of Avilés; it has got a
four leaf clover form, decorated
with chocolates and chocolate
figures.
4. The Tradition says that on Sunday
of
the
Resurrection
the
godparents give butter-cake to
their godchildren.
Previously, the kids have given
them a palm on Palm Sunday.
5. The same day , Easter Sunday,
there is a popular parade with
giants and big-headed figures,
music, groups of popular dance.
It is
fun and it is always
crowded.

Monday, there is a crowded
food outdoors.
The neighbords cook the meal at
their homes and then they eat it
on the street, with all the people
in tables places all around the
city.
The youngest people usually go
to the park.
