2. Ms. Runyon’s code of conduct:
1. We will be prepared for class daily
2. We will be truthful and honest
3. We will be polite at all times
4. We will respect ourselves, our peers, and all school faculty & property
5. We will always do our best!
Remember: Positive Expectations = Positive Results!
Expectations for group work:
1. Speak quietly, be polite, & listen to others.
2. Take turns, share, & help one another.
3. Work together & stay on task.
4. Help put materials away and clean up.
There is no such thing as
finished:
1. Read a book
2. Choose something from the Busy Bag
3. Help a classmate
3. 4. Write & illustrate a story to go into the classroom library
5. Do a classroom chore
Classroom Procedures:
Morning Routine:
1. As soon as you enter the classroom, go to your locker, get anything you need for
class, & put the rest of your belongings in your locker.
2. Quickly and quietly go to the attendance/lunch chart and move your magnet to the
proper spot. Either you have a packed lunch or you will eat what the cafeteria is
serving that day. (ONLY MOVE YOUR MAGNET)
3. (On Mondays) Check the Classroom Responsibility Chart to see what your duty is
for the week.
4. Take your seat and start on your bellringer.
Classroom Responsibilities: Everyone will have a classroom responsibility. Some
responsibilities may require two helpers. I will move the named clothespins every Monday.
If you do not fulfill your responsibility, I will move your name on the Behavior Chart to the
appropriate level.
Tardy:If you are not in class when the first bell rings, you will be marked tardy. After
2tardy marks, I will send a letter home to your parents. If tardy, you are to quietly go to
your locker, move your magnet on the attendance/lunch chart, and take your seat.
If you are continually late for class, I will schedule a parent meeting.
Absences:If you are absent, please bring an excuse from a doctor or parent for your
records.
Then go to the Make-Up Work bin, find the day(s) of the week you missed, and get missed
work. Put this work in your Homework Folder. Meet with me if you need further
instructions on your missed work.
Lunch count/Attendance: Hot lunch means you are eating from the cafeteria. Packed
lunch means you brought it from home. After putting your belongings in your locker, move
your magnet to whichever lunch you will be eating that day.
Snack-time:
4. 1. You may bring a snack from home to eat during snack-time. Please do not bring
anything sticky or extremely messy. Great snack ideas include fruit, vegetables,
cheese, crackers, pretzels, popcorn, granola bars, etc.
2. If you are not able to bring a snack from home or forgot your snack, get a nutritious
snack from the Snack-Bin. You may also get bottled water from the refrigerator.
3. Throw away all trash and make sure your area is clean.
Assignments:
We must always use our precious class time wisely! All assignments should be completed
in the time frame I give you. If you have worked your hardest and do not finish, put your
work inside the ‘To Do’ pocket of your Homework Folder. It must be completed and turned
in the next day. Unfinished work may result in a poor grade
If you simply do not stay on task or do not want to do the assignment, you will get a verbal
warning first. If it persists, you will finish the assignment during recess. If you refuse during
recess, I will contact your parents.
Bathroom/Water breaks: I will dismiss your table when it is time for your
bathroom/water break. If you need to go at another time, raise your hand and ask
permission. Then go to the Bathroom Chart: Boys & Girls, move your name magnet to the
appropriate spot. When you return to the class, put your magnet back in the empty space.
Lining Up: Tables will be called on, one at a time, to line up. Stand up quietly, push in your
chair, take all necessary items, line up without touching others or yelling, face the front of
the line, be quiet in the hallway, and watch where you are going.
Taking out/putting away/caring for supplies: Share group supplies; recap markers and
glue; check the number written on the supplies to make sure they belong in your group
basket; if something belongs to another group, return it to them quietly.
Sick:If you are feeling sick, let me know. We will talk about it and determine what you
need, whether it is a bathroom break, a snack, a drink of water, school nurse, or your
parent to pick you up.
Group Work:Our class is a team! I expect you to always share, work together, stay on task,
listen to one another, be polite and thoughtful, and help clean up afterwards. If you do not
meet these expectations, you will stay with me during the first 5 minutes of recess to
“Retrain” on how we properly work in groups.
Seating: Every month, you will be rearranged so you have the chance to get to know and
learn to work with everyone in your class. I will announce when I have rearranged the
seating. You will just simply look for your name card on your desk.
5. When I need your attention: I will say “Give me 5.” You raise your hand above your head
to let me know you are listening. Give Me Five: Eyes should be on me, you should be quiet,
your body should be facing me, hands are still, and ears are listening.
Fire Drill: Stop everything you are doing. Stand up and head for the door quickly in a line,
but without running or pushing. Walk down the hallway quietly, quickly, and in an orderly
fashion. Once outside, stay in a line and with the class. Wait patiently, calmly, and quietly in
line outside until we are allowed to go back to what we were doing.
Community Table: The community table will have on it tissues, paper, pencils, pencil
sharpener, hand sanitizer, etc. If you need an item from the community table, you may just
get up and quickly get what you need. If there is another student already at the table,
patiently wait until they sit down.
End of Day:
1. Clean up your desk, pick up any trash around you (even if it is not yours), and get
what you need to take home out of your desk, and sit quietly until I call on your
table.
2. I will call on a group of tables, one by one, to get their belongings from their lockers,
and line up.
7. Classroom Discipline Procedures:
Behavior Chart:In our classroom, we have a behavior chart that monitors
each individual’s behavior. Every student starts at ‘Ready to Learn’.
Throughout the day, your name may move above the starting point or
below the starting point.
If you reach the “Super Student” point (the very top of the chart), you receive a
reward.
Below the starting point is as follows:
1. You will get a verbal warning & be asked to make a better choice.
2. After verbal warning, you will have a consequence for your actions
(teacher’s choice).
3. If you continue to misbehave, I will contact your parents.
(Extreme behaviors, such as fighting, will result with me immediately taking
you to the office and/or contacting your parents.)
8. Although you may slip down into the “Red Zone” on the misbehavior chart,
you can always work your way back up the chart by making better choices
Rewards: Students will be rewarded with “Gotcha-Being Good” coupons.
They may choose from the possible list of rewards and I will write it down on
their coupon.
Some rewards include:
Sitting in the teacher’s seat for an hour.
Picking a book for read-aloud.
10 minutes in the reading nook.
Picking the brain break.
Picking an educational game.
Dear student,
It is important that we follow the rules and procedures of the classroom. This
will ensure a fun and safe learning environment for everyone. We are a team! I
want everyone to look forward to coming to class every day and excited to
learn! I want everyone to be successful and to be “Super Students”! I am so
excited and happy to have you in my classroom! I have a feeling we are going
to have a wonderful year!
Your First Grade Teacher,
Ms. Runyon
