The British Invasion The British Music Invasion was one of the most influential time periods for the
development and maturation of a new variation of rock and roll. This innovating movement was
initially inspired by some of America's greatest rock and blues musicians including: Buddy Holly,
Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, and so on. The establishment of the
British music scene absorbed and completely reconfigured the traditional instruments, established
music forms, and the same overused lyrics that once belonged to rock and roll. Two different

demonstrated their Beatle–inspired, softer style of music that held the same standard of
sophistication. Subsequently, the London school responded to Liverpool's revolutionary rock sound
with its own modification of rock and roll generated from influential, American rhythm and blues
bands with a more basic, raw demeanor. The newer London school was accompanied by a newer
sound that is most often described as a combination of jazz and R&B–oriented mainstream rock.
With the debut of the Liverpool British Invasion bands, newer bands from London had more
creative freedom and were challenged by overcoming the previous British bands' successes. As the
styles of each school developed, the variation between the two groups also widened. The second–
wave of British Invasion bands personified a harder, more aggressive sounding rock and placed a

The Battle of Britain is the name given to the World War II air campaign waged by the German Air
Force against the United Kingdom during the summer and autumn of 1940. The Luftwaffe or

The Germans would make small advancements throughout the length of the battle, but they could
never make a large enough dent in the RAF to change the outcome of the battle. Britain had its hand
in every major component of the battle which what caused them to win the Battle of Britain and
defeat the Germans in the first major campaign fought entirely by air forces. The courageous pilots
of the RAF were the heroes that helped safeguard Britain which gave way to Churchill's speech

Goering and Hitler The commander in chief Reichsmarschall Hermann W. Goering was an unstable
leader for the Luftwaffe. Although Goering was a pilot in WWI he had not kept up with the changes
in air power since his time in WWI and had little knowledge of strategy. Goering was prone to make
impulsive and erratic decisions which made it difficult for the Luftwaffe to get a jump on the RAF.
Because of Goering's erratic decision making, Hitler would intervene when he thought necessary
which would make the results even worse. Hitler had no clue about aerial strategies or tactics which
Churchill picked up on and realized that it would give the RAF a great advantage. Goering and
Hitler were never on the same page with one another and Goering would only tell Hitler what he

Glam rock was very popular, featuring artists like David Bowie and bands like Queen. The genre
was fronted by male artists who wore heavy make–up and dressed in clothes that wouldn't look out
of place on a female. The theatricality of the image was even applied to live performances. This was

In this essay, I am going to analyse and compare two different contrasting genres of music, and the
social impacts that they have had on their specific audiences. I will be using the Disco and Heavy
Metal genres in this essay. First to go is Disco. Disco is a form of dance music containing bits of
funk, soul, and pop. It became popular during the mid–1970s. Its initial audiences in the U.S. were
people who went to clubs that were from the Gay, African American, Italian American, and Latino

music, which originated in the US, were hugely popular in England and Europe in the 1930s and

promoters, and strengthen their music. As of December 2012, Quora reported that Bandcamp, a
website where aspiring artists and bands post their music for sale, has over 348,000 bands/artists on

Relocating to the San Francisco area played a major role in the evolution of Metallica. With the

some faced what seemed to be extinction others went through a sort of evolutionary process. The
bands that were at the top of the heavy metal ladder during this time were such acts as Motorhead,
Iron Maiden, and Tygers of Pan Tang. These groups would be just some of what the new crop of

After graduation James moved back to Downey and was offered a place to live by his friend Ron
McGovney. Ron's mother owned several houses, and the vacant one James would be moving into
was doubled as a rehearsal space since Ron was learning how to play the bass guitar. (Doughton 15–
16) As nineteen eighty one rolled around both James and Lars were looking for musicians that
shared the same taste in music they each had. Lars decided to place an advertisement in a South
California paper called "The Recycler." The only other ad that came close was James' and so the two
decided to meet. Their first practice together was anything but smooth, considering the fact that Lars
was still learning and could not even keep his drum set upright. (Krgin 51) Even though Lars was
clearly unprepared to make a career out of music he had made some connections. He befriended a
man named Brian Slagel, who was in the process of forming his own record company named Metal
Blade Records. Brian was in the middle of doing a compilation project where his goal was to expose
up and coming bands to the general public. He pretty much guaranteed Lars a spot on his project if
Lars could form a band. Lars got the information back to James and so they decided to give it a try.
James, Lars, Ron, and a friend, guitarist Lloyd Grant went into a recording studio and recorded what

three of these subgenres had their own effects on culture and created a new community around

The founder of Slacker Rock was Pavement. Pavement set the stage for Slacker Rocks lo–fi sound.
The band Beck took that lo–fi sounds and put even more styles with it. Their single "Loser" had
elements of blues, hip–hop, rap, and many more. The third subgenre was Britpop. Britpop showed
the litter and happier side of grunge. This subgenre started when bands tried to move backward
toward traditional British pop. This is where major bands like Oasis and Blur came in to the scene.
The 1990s had a lot going on in the music world. New wave and noise music styles were becoming
popular, and from there the genre of grunge was born. Even though the grunge movement was
everywhere the powerhouse of grunge was in Seattle. The band to start everything off was The

The Structure And Building Of Sophisticated Tunnels
In the mining world, there are three different types of tunnels. There are rudimentary,
interconnecting, and sophisticated but this paper will only focus on the structure and building of
sophisticated tunnels. Some features of a sophisticated tunnel are that it reach as deep as seventy
feet underground and tall and wide enough for an adult to walk through or for a mine cart to be
pushed through. When building these sophisticated tunnels, first the earth is chipped away by
handheld electric spades and the workers are filling sandbags with dirt and rocks in order to have
the clearest pathway in the tunnel. Then the rail systems tart to get set up where it's just a large metal
crate connected to an electric pulley system in order to get the sandbags with dirt and rocks out of
the tunnel.
A structural feature about these tunnels is that the ceiling would be slightly arched in order to
distribute the pressure and weight of the earth to prevent a collapse. Another feature of sophisticated
tunnels is the ventilation when a black plastic tubes connected by pipe clamps would be affixed to
the top of the tunnel in order to provide oxygen for the workers. The rail system that was in
sophisticated tunnels was two metal tracks that were laid down to bring debris to the surface by the
elevator in order to get it out of the way. In sophisticated tunnels, usually there would be wood or
concrete enforcement along the walls in order to prevent the tunnel from caving in.
