GAGNÉ’S NINE EVENTS OF INSTRUCTION

  • 7. The following nine steps have been adapted from Gagné, Briggs, and Wager (1992):
  • 8. Gain Attention of the Students Ensure the learners are ready to learn and participate in activities by presenting a stimulus to gain their attention.
  • 10. Inform Students of the Objectives Inform students of the objectives or outcomes to help them understand what they are to learn during the course. Provide objectives before instruction begins.
  • 11. 1. To discuss the scientific explanation human evolution. 2. Create a tool timeline of the cultural evolution of man. (tools, usage, etc.) 3. Document old farming tools used by old farmers and other artisans. Objectives
  • 12. Stimulate Recall of Prior Learning Help students make sense of new information by relating it to something they already know or something they have already experienced.
  • 13. - Ask questions about theories on the evolution of man. - Let students present the theories they already know.
  • 14. Present the Content Use strategies to present and cue lesson content to provide more effective, efficient instruction. Organize and chunk content in a meaningful way. Provide explanations after demonstrations.
  • 15. 1. Primate 2. Australopithecus 3. Homo Habilis 4. Homo Erectus 5. Homo Sapiens
  • 19. Provide Learning Guidance Advise students of strategies to aid them in learning content and of resources available.
  • 20. 1. Books (Campbell Biology: Concepts & Connections, Biology: The Unity and Diversity of Life, A History of the World. 2. Internet (Slide Share, Youtube)
  • 21. Elicit Performance (Practice) Activate student processing to help them internalize new skills and knowledge and to confirm correct understanding of these concepts.
  • 22. 1.Let students discuss in groups ideas learnt from different ideas presented by other groups. 2. Look for the continents in the globe where evolution of human started. 3. Students trace the movement of people from one continent to another.
  • 23. Provide Feedback Provide immediate feedback of students’ performance to assess and facilitate learning.
  • 24. 1. Let the student give their reaction about the performance of different groups in class.
  • 25. Assess Performance In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the instructional events, you must test to see if the expected learning outcomes have been achieved. Performance should be based on previously stated objectives.
  • 26. 1. Check up Quiz 2. Create a timeline of the cultural evolution of man. (tools, usage, etc.)
  • 28. Enhance Retention and Transfer to the Job To help learners develop expertise, they must internalize new knowledge.
  • 29. 1. Let students look for recent articles about human evolution and countries where they originated and share to the class. 2. Ask the students how important it is to know the theories in the origin of human and where they evolve.
