Crestor Tablets are also used to treat
hereditary forms of high cholesterol,
including the heterozygous type (inherited
from one parent) and the homozygous type
(inherited from both parents).
For the heterozygous type, Rosuvastatin
Calcium can be used in children who are at
least 8 years old. For the homozygous type,
Rosuvastatin can be used in children as
young as 7 years old.

➢Crestor tablets can be administered as a
single dose at any time of day, with or without
food. The tablet must be swallowed whole.
➢The adult dose range for Crestor tablets is 5
mg to 40 mg orally once daily. A start dose of 5
mg is recommended in patients >70 years. Use
40 mg dose only for patients not reaching LDL-
C goal with 20 mg.
➢Adult Homozygous Familial
Hypercholesterolaemia: Starting dose 20
mg/day

➢Pediatric patients with Heterozygous Familial
Hypercholesterolaemia: 5 mg/day to 10 mg/day for
patients 8 to less than 10 years of age, and 5 mg to
20 mg/day for patients 10 to 17 years of age.
➢Pediatric patients with Homozygous Familial
Hypercholesterolaemia: 20 mg/day for patients 7 to
17 years of age.
➢Increased systemic exposure has been seen in
Asian subjects. The recommended start dose is 5
mg for patients of Asian ancestry.

Crestor (Rosuvastatin Calcium tablets)
have to be stored at controlled room
temperature i.e. from 20°C to 25°C (68°F
to 77°F) with excursions permitted
between 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F).
Protect from light and moisture.
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.

Skeletal muscle effects (e.g., myopathy and
rhabdomyolysis):
Risks increase with use of 40 mg dose, advanced
age (65 years or greater), hypothyroidism, renal
impairment, and combination use with cyclosporine,
lopinavir/ritonavir, atazanavir/ritonavir, or certain
other lipid-lowering drugs. Patients must be
advised to promptly report unexplained muscle pain,
tenderness, or weakness and discontinue Crestor
tablets if signs or symptoms appear.
Liver enzyme abnormalities and monitoring:
Persistent elevations in hepatic transaminases can
occur.Perform liver enzyme tests before initiating
therapy and as clinically indicated thereafter.

Contraindications
Crestor tablets are contraindicated in:
Patients with a hypersensitivity to Rosuvastatin
Calcium or any other component of this medication.
Patients with active liver disease, which may
include unexplained persistent elevations of hepatic
transaminase levels.
Patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine
clearance <30 ml/min)
Patients with myopathy and patients receiving
concomitant Ciclosporin.
It is also contraindicated in women who are pregnant
or may become pregnant and Nursing mothers.

Contraindications
Crestor 40 mg tablets are contraindicated in:
- moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance <
60 ml/min)
- hypothyroidism
- personal or family history of hereditary muscular
disorders
- previous history of muscular toxicity with another
HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor or fibrate
- alcohol abuse
- situations where an increase in plasma levels may
occur
- Asian patients
- concomitant use of fibrates.

➢Common Crestor side effects with an incidence of 2%
or more in the Rosuvastatin Calcium controlled clinical
trial were: Headache, Myalgia, Abdominal pain,
Asthenia and Nausea.
➢In case any of the following side effects occur
while taking Rosuvastatin Calcium (Crestor), check
with your doctor immediately:
➢Rare Side Effects: Dark-colored urine, fever,
muscle cramps or spasms, muscle pain, stiffness,
tenderness, wasting, or weakness, unusual
tiredness or weakness.
➢Incidence not known: Abdominal or stomach
pain, clay-colored stools, skin rash, unpleasant
breath odor, vomiting of blood, yellow eyes or skin

15. Crestor Overdose

There is no specific treatment in the event
of Crestor overdose.
In the event of overdose, the patient must
be treated symptomatically and supportive
measures instituted as required.
Hemodialysis does not significantly
increase clearance of Rosuvastatin
tablets.

16. Crestor During Pregnancy

Rosuvastatin Calcium (Crestor tablets) has
been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy
Category X.
Rosuvastatin Calcium is contraindicated in
women who are or may become pregnant.
Serum cholesterol and triglycerides increase
during normal pregnancy, and cholesterol
products are necessary for fetal development.
Atherosclerosis is a chronic process and
discontinuation of lipid-lowering drugs during
pregnancy will have little impact on long-term
outcomes of primary hyperlipidemia therapy.
