Rostar (Rosuvastatin Calcium Tablets) is
used to lower high cholesterol levels.
Patients that have normal cholesterol,
can also be administered this medicine to
reduce the risk of having a stroke or heart
attack if they are a man 50 or more years
old or a woman 60 or more years old and
have at least 2 risk factors for having a heart
attack or stroke, such as high blood
pressure, low levels of “good” cholesterol
(HDL), smoking or a family history of
premature coronary heart disease.

➢The adult dose range for Rostar tablets is 5
to 40 mg orally once daily. The normal starting
dose is 10 mg to 20 mg.
➢Rostar can be administered as a single dose
at any time of day, with or without food. The
tablet must be swallowed whole.

Rostar (Rosuvastatin Calcium tablets)
have to be stored at controlled room
temperature i.e. from 20°C to 25°C (68°F
to 77°F) with excursions permitted
between 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F).
Protect from light and moisture.
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.

Skeletal muscle effects (e.g., myopathy and
rhabdomyolysis):
Risks increase with use of 40 mg dose, advanced
age (65 years or greater), hypothyroidism,renal
impairment, and combination use with cyclosporine,
lopinavir/ritonavir, atazanavir/ritonavir, or certain
other lipid-lowering drugs. Advise patients to
promptly report unexplained muscle pain,
tenderness, or weakness and discontinue Rostar
tablets if signs or symptoms appear.
Liver enzyme abnormalities and monitoring:
Persistent elevations in hepatic transaminases can
occur. Monitor liver enzymes before and during
treatment.

Contraindications
Rostar tablets are contraindicated in patients
with a hypersensitivity to Rosuvastatin Calcium
or any other component of this medication.
Patients with active liver disease, which may
include unexplained persistent elevations of
hepatic transaminase levels.
It is also contraindicated in women who are
pregnant or may become pregnant and Nursing
mothers.

➢Common Rostar side effects with an incidence of 2%
or more in the Rosuvastatin controlled clinical trial
were: Headache, Myalgia, Abdominal pain, Asthenia
and Nausea.
➢In case any of the following side effects occur
while taking Rosuvastatin Calcium (Rostar), check
with your doctor immediately:
➢Rare Side Effects: Dark-colored urine, fever,
muscle cramps or spasms, muscle pain, stiffness,
tenderness, wasting, or weakness, unusual
tiredness or weakness.
➢Incidence not known: Abdominal or stomach
pain, clay-colored stools, skin rash, unpleasant
breath odor, vomiting of blood, yellow eyes or skin

12. Rostar Overdose

There is no specific treatment in the event
of Rostar overdose.
In the case of overdose, the patient must
be treated symptomatically and supportive
measures instituted as required.
Hemodialysis does not significantly
enhance clearance of Rosuvastatin tablets.

13. Rosuvastatin During Pregnancy

Rosuvastatin Calcium (Rostar tablets) has
been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy
Category X.
Rosuvastatin is contraindicated in women who
are or may become pregnant.
Serum cholesterol and triglycerides increase
during normal pregnancy, and cholesterol
products are essential for fetal development.
Atherosclerosis is a chronic process and
discontinuation of lipid-lowering drugs during
pregnancy should have little impact on long-
term outcomes of primary hyperlipidemia
therapy.
