Miss Awful Summary
In the short story, "Miss Awful", written by Arthur Cavanaugh, Roger misjudges Miss. Orville, there
new, disciplined substitute teacher, as a horrible witch that has no reason to act as she does. In fact,
Roger hates Miss. Orville so much that he would like to get her back, and has some mean plants in
mind. However, later in the story, Roger learns that Miss. Orville was evicted from her apartment
and could only bring one of her many plants with her when she left. Roger begins to fell bad for
Miss. Awful, as when the other children are devising a plan to get Miss. Orville back, Roger doesn't
participate and suggests that they do nothing at all, and just let her be. Only a little while after that,
Miss. Orville gives the children a speech, telling them that she only disciplined the children to help
them improve as citizens. Miss. Orville explains how all of her disciplining was worth it, as long as
they, or even just one of them, improved as a person. Roger decided that he is that one person, and
proves it to Miss. Orville; after class, Roger goes up to Miss. Orville and spells the words castle and
flower correctly, two of which he failed to spell a few days previous to that moment. After spelling
the words, Roger walks from the room before Miss. Orville could stay anything more.
The theme of the short story, "Miss Awful" is that even if you think your right, you can always be

Chorus Concert I Reflection Paper
On that blistering day, the high school students giggled as they lay stretched–out–near the walls.
Some of them were aggressively touching one another.
I entered through the double–doors, and I signed–in while school security officers' wand–down
students. Then I located the main office, and I accepted my assignment papers titled: Chorus
Concert I, (Period 6).
The substitute teachers' coordinator told me that I was assigned to two chorus classes.
My instructions were to sit in the classroom and listen to them sing. I felt enthralled by the
assignment. I thought, "Fantastic!"
All day long, I looked forward to going to Period 6; the symphony class. I could not wait to be
amused by the melodies of talented young chorus singers.
The moment arrived, and I stepped into that rumbustious and loud classroom. Then I scanned the
architectural design of the room. The classroom resembled a mid–size basketball gym. The concrete
blocked walls were painted white. The hard wood floors complimented two black pianos scattered in
opposite locations in the vicinity.
My evaluation of the room's facility was interrupted by a BLASTING surprise. For example, there
were 40 energetic students amid one substitute teacher: me. A few, but not all, of the students'
hormones, ran faster than a New York City freight train.
After I glanced at what was happening, I said, "Goodness gracious!" "Where is the choir?!" I asked
loudly. "Why aren't you singing?" "Come on, vocalize, "Sing students, sing!" I implored them.
They looked at me with amazement. Assuredly, I felt victimized by a fresh practical joke.
Despite what I felt, I still kept waiting to hear someone strike up a musical note.
Seconds later, I heard, "Oh." "Uh, um..." "We don't sing," one of the students jocularly replied.
With raised eyebrows, I said, "Huh?" "What do you mean, you don't sing?" "Isn't this a chorus
class?" "Chorus means to sing, right?" I asked with a tone of frustration. Since nobody struck up a
tune, my next instinct was to get the class organized. I stopped trying to identify the songbirds, and I
walked around the classroom telling students to complete their written activity.

My Favorite Teacher In High School
Third Grade. Most people remember learning multiplication, getting more homework, and a very
slight increase in responsibility. What's my most vivid memory? The time my teacher was rushed to
the hospital during the school day. My homeroom teacher, Mrs. Hauge is still one of the nicest
teachers I've had today. She taught the cluster classroom, which is when all the kids the school
considers "Gifted Learners" are all put in one class rather than being split up so that they can more
easily be taught what they need. She was always nice, and not very strict. Basically, she was my
favorite teacher all through elementary school. While her trip to the hospital was a traumatic
experience for the whole class, it really shaped me as an individual. Mrs. Hauge is an older teacher.
She wears glasses attached to a beaded necklace, and her faded blond hair was cut in a short bob.
Every year on the day before winter break, without fail she would go to the front of the third grade
hallway with reindeer ears and bells, and sing holiday songs like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
and Jingle Bells. Every year after I was in her class, I returned to the third grade wing on that day to
sing songs with her in the morning before school starts, as did a lot of her other past students. One

Despite the disruptions, it is still important to note the dynamics and characteristics of this
classroom. Mrs. Diaz's room is filled with beautiful and vibrant pieces of chart paper that allow the
students to refer back to previous lessons. The various pieces of chart paper are exhibited throughout
the entire room and includes almost every academic concentration. Moreover, the classroom is
organized into centers that is separated by the library, math, reading, and writing areas. All the
centers are spread amongst the room with the library towards the back of the classroom and the
math center located towards the community area. The library center is rather large and has several
backrest throw pillows on the floor. This area is suitable towards the back of the room due to its
large proximity that enables the students to relax on the cushions and read a book. The classroom is
not organized in a traditional fashion either, but instead includes elements from P.S. 45's famous,
flexible–seating arrangements that have taken over a majority of the classroom settings.
Additionally, these seating arrangements include cushions, portable lap–desks, and a "Starbucks"

I am observing a Kindergarten Prep class with children ages four to five. Originally there are
thirteen children in the class with only one teacher. However the teacher the sends some of the
children to another class to not break the teacher–child ratio. The program is actively looking to hire

The teacher was very calm, but also very firm when speaking to the child. After the child talk the
child listened to the teacher and went to one of the other centers. This example demonstrate the
teacher's characteristics by showing how the teacher handles and deals with different situations that
occur on a day to day basis.
The teacher was preparing the children to go outside when one of the children asked " can you help
zip up my jacket". The teacher knew that the child was able to zip up his own jacket so she told him
"you know how to do it on your own but if you need help I will then help you". The child was then
able to zip his jacket after a few tries. He then realized that one of his shoes was untied and aging
asked the teacher to help him. The teacher reminded him that he is also able to do this own his own
and that he has tied his own shoes before. The teacher then watched over the child and encouraged
him as he was doing it on his own. This example helps demonstrate the teacher's characteristics by
showing the teacher constantly helping and encouraging the children to accomplish new things.

The teacher is very firm when speaking to the children, which lets the children know what is

This theory is appropriate because in the beginning I analyzed the cost vs. the benefits and the
comparison level. For me, the time it took to pack up my books, supplies, etc., and drive to the
library and unpack once I got to the library was a major cost. I felt like that was valuable time I
could have used to study. Once I was in the group, I realized the time I saved by being dividing the
work up between three people and compiling group study guides off set the packing and travel time.
In the end, I decided the benefits outweighed the cost, and the outcome of joining the study group
were definitely better than my expectations had been. I am completely satisfied with my choice to
join the group.
Another theory that would be reflective of my experience in the study group is the behavioral group
theory. Although punishment and control is not a significant issue in the group and there is no
designated "leader" in the group, trying new behaviors, receiving feedback, and modeling, are all
components of the group. I had never made flashcards to aid in studying until I joined the group, but
I tried this new method of studying and found it very helpful. Receiving feedback on the way I
perceive a topic from group members is also a great tool. It allows me to broaden my knowledge of

The frigid temperatures didn't prevent those rumbustious preschoolers from playing on their school's
playground. Hannah, who was wrapped up tightly in her coat and hat, cleaved next to me. She
gripped my hand forcefully. I tried to walk ahead of her, but she yanked my coat harder. Why won't
this little girl move from around me, and let me breathe? I needed to watch all the students, not just

The short story Gryphon by Charles Baxter is about a substitute teacher that challenges the way the
children in the classroom usually think and encourages them to think with their imagination.
Growing up, I also had a teacher that challenged me to think creatively as well. She inspired me to
work hard and learn as much as I could. Both the story and my personal life have strong influences
of a teacher wanting to better the student's life in an unconventional way. The story starts with the

the story is the spelling of the word gryphon. It is a variant of griffin,which is more popular way of

Ferenczi really is. The preliminary settings are as ordinary as they can be. It is a "Wednesday

young minds. Tommy the narrator of the story, "does not take his eyes of the woman"(246). He
notices a curious characteristic of her physical appearance "the two prominent lines, descending
vertically from the sides of her mouth to the chin"(247). They resemble Pinocchio, who was never a
real boy, but a prominent liar, further emphasizing the way Miss Ferenczi plays with truths and

My fourth period's classroom resembled a computer lab. The five students (who sat on the back
row) kept me tip–toeing on pins and needles. One morning, the main instigator and disrupter,
Patrick, browsed the Internet. He also navigated his way around Google Classroom. His eyes
seemed mighty suspicious. What did he have brewing up his sneaky sleeve? While I got my students
engaged with the lesson, I also asked them a simple entrepreneurial question. Then Patrick

My Experience In High School
4th grade was a filled with chaos. Even if I try to remember one moment, I can only pull out blurry
images. But out of all of these foggy memories, one stands above all. Three years back, I'm standing
in front of the whole class; face as red like blood as everyone gawks and laughs. How I got into this
situation is a long story. Very little did I know, it would alter my singing 'career'. Our two classes of
20 or so were all cooped up in small temporary buildings, about 15 meters away from the school.
This comes with its advantages and disadvantages. During the freezing winters, kids learning in the
main building were nice and toasty with heaters while us temporary building kids froze our butts off.
Even though the weather could be a pain, being outside of the main building allowed our class to
play outside a lot more than other classes.
Just so students wouldn't ask for the key card to go inside to use the restroom every 30 seconds, two
bathrooms were installed into both temporary buildings. The only thing saving you from you potty
noises was the obnoxious fan, a tad bit louder than any ordinary fan. But... If you were dumb
enough to say something like; "My poop looks green!", even the thin walls couldn't help you.
Anyways, it's time to retell this embarrassing moment.

There are three errors in judgment that stood out to me in the reading and attend. Unwarranted
assumptions are "beliefs and ideas that are taken for granted" (Bethel, 2013). Both personally and
professionally unwarranted assumptions can cause a lack of communication. This can lead to
problems in relationships and deadlines not being met. Projection is "tendency to attribute to others
some of our own traits". Often times, when we have personality traits or feelings, we assume others

On that hot day, the high school students were laughing and they lay stretched–out–near the walls.
Some of them were aggressively touching one another.
I entered through the double–doors. I signed–in while school security officers' wand–down students.
Then I located the main office, and I received my assignment papers titled: Chorus Concert I,
(Period 6).

With a 35% pass–rate, I did not expect too much participation from the class. The first thing was a
warm–up in which instead of students volunteering to come up to the board, there were a set of
popsicles sticks with students' names and I chose at random for the students to come up to the board
and work on a problem. But of course, I had students reluctant even if their names were chosen.
After the warm–up, the students were to work on an assignment that I handed out for 40–45
minutes. Plenty of the students did not even attempt the assignment and would have to finish it for
homework (but I doubt they did). Most students just talked and messed with their phones for the
time given to them for work. While I can give them work to do, I cannot force them to do it. So as
long as they are not injuring each other and destroying school property, I do not care what they do.
This is not a positive attitude to have, but it is the best course of action when it comes to one–day
substitutes. There were students who tried to make effort of the assignment and I was there to assist;
hopefully they learned something from the short time I could help. Next, the students were to take

My Experience At The High School As A Substitute Teacher
It has been a long road over the past seventeen years, to get to where I am now. Choosing to go to
school, you would have thought would have been a no–brainer. As a young adult I never really
looked beyond the day I was in. I have been through many jobs in my life, I made it a career in
changing careers. The jobs I took never felt like more than just a paycheck. Most of the jobs I had I
would end up in a year or so hating going to work. I would literally dread going in or even thinking
about having to work there. Then I found what I would call the "light going on" job where I felt
different, I started working at the High school as a Substitute teacher. I came to the job because I
was working as an LNA, I had changed my hours to only work on the weekends. The county
changed their policies, I lost my insurance, so I went per diem. As an "on call" LNA I received no
hours, I needed money and fast. Someone told me to be a sub at the school, no education needed and
they are always looking for help. I worked a lot as a substitute, mostly for paraprofessionals in the
high school. One of the case managers that I worked with a lot liked what she saw and encouraged
me to go for the open position, I was interviewed before the interview if that makes any sense at all.

  • 1. Miss Awful Summary In the short story, "Miss Awful", written by Arthur Cavanaugh, Roger misjudges Miss. Orville, there new, disciplined substitute teacher, as a horrible witch that has no reason to act as she does. In fact, Roger hates Miss. Orville so much that he would like to get her back, and has some mean plants in mind. However, later in the story, Roger learns that Miss. Orville was evicted from her apartment and could only bring one of her many plants with her when she left. Roger begins to fell bad for Miss. Awful, as when the other children are devising a plan to get Miss. Orville back, Roger doesn't participate and suggests that they do nothing at all, and just let her be. Only a little while after that, Miss. Orville gives the children a speech, telling them that she only disciplined the children to help them improve as citizens. Miss. Orville explains how all of her disciplining was worth it, as long as they, or even just one of them, improved as a person. Roger decided that he is that one person, and proves it to Miss. Orville; after class, Roger goes up to Miss. Orville and spells the words castle and flower correctly, two of which he failed to spell a few days previous to that moment. After spelling the words, Roger walks from the room before Miss. Orville could stay anything more. I entered through the double–doors, and I signed–in while school security officers' wand–down students. Then I located the main office, and I accepted my assignment papers titled: Chorus Concert I, (Period 6). The substitute teachers' coordinator told me that I was assigned to two chorus classes. My instructions were to sit in the classroom and listen to them sing. I felt enthralled by the assignment. I thought, "Fantastic!" All day long, I looked forward to going to Period 6; the symphony class. I could not wait to be amused by the melodies of talented young chorus singers. The moment arrived, and I stepped into that rumbustious and loud classroom. Then I scanned the architectural design of the room. The classroom resembled a mid–size basketball gym. The concrete blocked walls were painted white. The hard wood floors complimented two black pianos scattered in opposite locations in the vicinity. My evaluation of the room's facility was interrupted by a BLASTING surprise. For example, there were 40 energetic students amid one substitute teacher: me. A few, but not all, of the students' hormones, ran faster than a New York City freight train. After I glanced at what was happening, I said, "Goodness gracious!" "Where is the choir?!" I asked loudly. "Why aren't you singing?" "Come on, vocalize, "Sing students, sing!" I implored them. They looked at me with amazement. Assuredly, I felt victimized by a fresh practical joke. Despite what I felt, I still kept waiting to hear someone strike up a musical note. Seconds later, I heard, "Oh." "Uh, um..." "We don't sing," one of the students jocularly replied.
