It should be noted that Gender (Figure 1) was biased towards females but did include a significant
number of males. Figure 1 Gender Figure 2 Age Range Age ranges (Figure 2) were representative of
varying demographic populations within the United States and were consistent with the 2010
Census Bureau data. Figure 3 Most important choice factors Respondent data (Figure 3) showed the
primary reason for smartphone choice was due enormously to phone features and applications
available for the smartphone. Smartphone usage data was broken down into 10 categories (Figure 4)
with the top 4 being Internet, messaging, email, and social networking. It should be noted that the
top 4 are essentially applications that are primarily done from computers and when applied to
smartphones, mobility and ease of access is increased significantly. Figure 4 Greatest use on

areas: Use of cell phones today including types of phone, usage, age, and gender. In an attempt to
understand these areas two broad research questions were formulated. * RQ1 Of the respondents
polled who chose their smartphone based on phone features and applications and who were of the
age range of 26–35, what were their usages based on gender? Analyze and explain the differences
between the choices of the two genders based on their age ranges and the variable influencing
choices. * RQ2

The Problem Of Heroin Usage
We all know someone who has suffered from an addiction, whether it be a family member, a
classmate, a peer, or a friend of a friend. What is the best way of preventing theses addictions from
going too far though? Doctors prescribing medicine, rehab and other sober facilities, parental
involvement, or for extreme cases, drugs that will reverse the effects of the addict's usage? Heroin
Usage has become a huge problem through our country and our communities in the past decade.
Approximately 13.5 million people in the world use opioids, but other surveys indicate that this
number is larger now. In fact, according to The National Institute on drug abuse, in 2010, there were
2,789 deaths and in 2011, there were about 4,102 deaths (2015). ... Show more content on

The second is a drug demand reduction, which focuses mainly on the demand side of drugs. They
try to reduce by education and prevention strategies that try to make the potential users much less
likely to use illegal drugs. The last way of prevention is getting involved with ex–drug users who
need help to stay clean and prevent them from getting involved with illegal substances after
treatment takes place (Mentor International,2015). The second approach would be the most
effective. It is not costly, nor does it have a negative side effect. As far as I could find, absolutely no
one has a problem with informing their kids about the dangers of drugs, such as heroin. However,
parental involvement is a portion of this approach and there are some people against that.
Other than talking, parent involvement is another approach to prevention. Some parents may go as
far as to search through their child's room. Talking to my peers in the classroom, many of them didn
't like the idea of this at all. One of them (Ashley Daily), said that it would be "an invasion of their
privacy". Another,(Scarlett Wiant) said that if their parents started doing so, it would ruin their
personal relationship. She thought this because she believes this is a huge sign of parents not
trusting, nor respecting them. Others however, said that their parents already do this. They said they
weren 't

Authority and American Usage
Authority and American Usage: Part 1 "Authority and American Usage" written by David Foster
Wallace, poses an argument about the English language, and the different beliefs of its usage. This
essay was written in defense of Bryan A. Garner's, A Dictionary of Modern American Usage. His
argument in "Authority and American Usage" is the difference the between prescriptivism
perception and the descriptivism perception (Linguistic terms that could easily be made into smaller,
more understandable words for people like me). Since the beginning of time, language has evolved.
From biblical times, to Shakespearean times, to present day; the English language has been
continuously changing since it's birth and has no intentions on stopping. ... Show more content on

This makes Wallace an evil genius; revealing that he is in fact, the slyest snoot of all. Another aspect
that Wallace goes in depth with is our current writing system. He describes how currently, our
education system is leaning more toward a descriptive type of writing style, rather than the
traditional and formal prescriptive writing style. Language changes so often that even the way
teachers are expecting their student to write are different from that of 20 years ago. Ross 4
"Authority and American Usage," an interesting essay written by the brilliant and quick–witted
David Foster Wallace, presents an argument on different ways of understanding the ever–changing
American usage in the English language. Keeping up with the English language in America is like
chasing your new, untrained puppy down the street. Tiring and basically impossible to get a hold of.
Over the past centuries, the English language has evolved so much, that if you took a person from
the 13th century and threw them in the middle of New York City in 2013, it would be as if two
different languages were being spoken. Wallace's essay is a pretty intriguing, considering half of us
really don't wonder "Hmm, what's the proper way to say ___?" or "Shouldn't she

The Energy Of Energy Usage
Introduction
Historically, the distillation of alcohol (spirits, wine and vodka) has been a high–end consumer in
terms of energy usage. According to U.S. Dept. of Energy, there are more than 40,000 distillation
columns in North America and they consume 40% of the total energy used to operate plants in
chemical industries [1]. As a result, researchers have focused their efforts towards developing
distillation columns that are more compact, utilize compressors to recirculate latent heat and possess
more effective separation technology in order to reduce energy consumption.
The principal topics of research that pose effective solutions to these present–day energy challenges
are: the use of divided–wall columns (DWC), self–heat recuperation ... Show more content on

[3] shows that by using dividing–wall columns, the uninstalled equipment cost for the total column
configuration is reduced by about 10%. The capital costs savings result from a reduction equipment
quantity. There are also indirect benefits; a dividing–wall column requires less plot area, shorter
piping, electrical runs and smaller storm runoff system [3]. When compared to a conventional two–
column system, capital costs savings of up to 30% is typical [2]. In summary, fully thermally
coupled columns/configurations/ arrangements require less energy than conventional counterparts,
because of providing operating conditions that avoid or minimize entropy of mixing formation,
which in case of conventional configurations occurs, more or less pronounced, at the feed stage, the
ends of the columns, and due to remixing of internal flows [8].
Self–Heat Recuperation Technology
In order to separate ethanol contents from water, enormous amounts of heat must be applied to the
azeotropic mixture during distillation. According to Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, an
ethanol–water mixture must be distilled at 78.3 degrees Celsius to reach the 80 proof content level
of standard vodka [9]. As a result, the heat needed to distill vodka creates the need to explore
sources of recycled energy. As investigated by Matsuda et al., self–heat recuperation technology
utilizes not only latent heat but also the sensible

Inventory Usage Assessment
Inventory Usage Assessment
When assessing the inventory needs and management the annual figures are unlikely to give
sufficient detail regarding potential seasonal fluctuations to be useful. Therefore, it is necessary to
look at the trend on a seasonal, or even monthly, basis. The inventory usage for 2009 – 2012 is
shown in figure 1 below
Figure SEQ Figure * ARABIC 1; Inventory Usage 2009 – 2012
It is apparent that there is volatility in the level of inventory needed in different months. The
addition of a trend line gives the equation of the slight increase, which is seen with a slight overall
upward slope on the trend line, which may be used of forecast forward using the y intercept
equation. The equation is y = 123.51x+39323. As x is the month (or other period given in the data
set), according to this for month 49 (Jan 2013) there would be inventory of 40,928.63. However,
when looking at the volatility that breaking the data down into years, so that each year may be
compared, is likely to indicate the high and low seasons. The data may be placed into a line graph to
look at the way that each month compares. This is shown in table 2. Figure SEQ Figure * ARABIC
2; Monthly Inventory Use by Year
This shows that there are seasons, with higher demand in the summer months and a decline in
winter. The 4th quarter is the lowest season, with December being the lowest usage month, whereas
the second quarter is the highest with May as the highest month. The

Analyzing Media Usage
The first media usage I am going to analyze will be Facebook and the agenda setting idea. Agenda
setting is repeated news coverage of an issue over time that raises importance of that issue in the
public mind. In the past week when I logged onto Facebook, all I saw were posts about whether or
not you should kneel during the national anthem to protest police brutality or stand. Most people
who don't watch football would not have any idea of the debate going on. However, since it is all
that is being talked about on Facebook, more and more people are seeing it and making it more of an
issue. For example, the University of Iowa is hosting a police brutality protest during our
homecoming game this upcoming weekend. This post has been shared all ... Show more content on

Instead, you get the option to only see the posts you want. Consequently, I think this will have long
term effects on my behavior but it is a good thing because it is more efficient. As far as agenda
setting goes, I don't think it will have any negative effects on me personally, because its what other
people post. If anything I feel agenda setting will keep me more involved and up to date on issues
because the more people post or share something the more I will see it. Another theory we discussed
in class that I think might effect me in the long term is the spiral of silence theory. The spiral of
science theory is when people who believe their opinion is not in the majority, they will not speak
out on a contested issue for, the fear of feeling rejected or isolation from a social group. This is true
for me, sometimes when I feel like my vote or stance is not in the majority of what others are saying
I don't say anything about to contribute because I am afraid I might get rejected by them. I need to
learn to voice my own opinion even if it is different from

The Usage Of Drug Use
The usage of drug is unbiased when it comes to race and class. Anyone has an equal chance to get
addicted to a drug of their choice. In the today's society, the drug is viewed as horrible and those
who are 'dependent' on it are either criminals and/or addicts. There are many researches that were
done in the past that criminalized those who use, which bring the term to criminology. Today there
are so many drugs that are being used by different people in varies age group and to each drug there
is a technique on, how is it use and when is it comes to the usage of drug, it does not discriminate by
race nor class. This is what many people tend to forget and with so many pieces published it is very
accessible to anyone who is very interested in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To those who does legal drugs aren't considered drug users, but those who uses illegal drug are drug
users. There is a problem with perception because opiates are legal, but could have the same effect
as illegal drugs; the only difference between the illegal and legal drugs is that one would need to get
the drug from a doctor. "Someone who smokes tobacco is a smoker, but someone who smokes
marijuana is a drug user. Though both substances are recognized as drugs, one smoke cigarettes,
whereas someone else uses marijuana" (Whitearce, 9). The typical stereotype of those who uses
drugs are that they are violent, criminals, thieves and/or rapist. In "'Dope Fiend' Mythology" by A. R
Lindesmith, he speaks on the many myths about drug and addictions that been floating around for
years. He mentions that a drug addict is usually seen as "the most dangerous and heinous criminals
and are linked up with killing and rapes" (Lindesmith, 199). Many publications were able to prove
that the statement is false and crime report also proves this very stereotype to be false. Yes, some
addicts would commit petty crimes like robbery and mugging to get some money from their next
high, but to kill and rape is not a crime that is very common with drug users. Other stereotypes are
that there is certain race that use certain type of drugs. Like cocaine is linked to Blacks, marijuana is
linked to Mexicans immigrants and opium is linked to Chinese.

making the smartphone and feature phone. And increasing the computing power of mobile phone,
rapidly increase the smart phone mobile application. Most of the people from developed countries
cannot imagine leaving their home without mobile phones. Not only the developed countries but
also the developing countries the mobile application usage rate is growing rapidly. The mobile
application are available in different areas like social networking, games ,news and magazines,
travel, weather, health & fitness, books and many more." Let us consider suppose social networking
applications like Voice chat, Facebook, Twitter etc. Now a day every standard mobile phone has
Facebook application on their mobile device. Just through mobile device user can share with their
friends and family from anywhere and any place like in car, in train which means sitting anywhere
in any location. People can use messenger like whats app, LINE, We chat messenger apps for
chatting purposes anywhere and anyplace. We can generate call to any corner of the world with low
cost using VoIP application and internet with the help of the application like skype which leads to
free voice or video calling through their mobile device. Then we can talk about GPS System.

Policy For Employee Internet Usage
Policy for Employee Internet Usage Organizations should have a good training policy and an
information systems usage contract. Having a good training plan should include educating
employees on the legal and ethical concerns of internet and email usage. It should introduce specific
laws and business policies and procedures. It should also identify the ramifications of not following
laws and policies. It might also be important for training to identify any security protective measures
in place within the information system or network itself. This can help deter potential insider threats.
Additionally, an organization should have a contractual agreement between the employee and
employer to establish a usage contractual agreement and to help provide legal recourse for
violations. Following is a sample policy which provides appropriate rules as well as education and
training:
Employee Internet Usage Agreement The purpose of this policy is to provide education and
guidelines for company employees to adhere to when using company internet and email. Every
employee should adhere to this training and policy guideline. Failure to follow company policy
could result in disciplinary action or dismissal. All employees who received internet and email
accounts with this company are required to complete the company internet and email education and
training program and sign this contractual agreement. Employees are expected to use good
judgement, be responsible, and be productive

Recreational Drugs and Their Usage
The usage of drugs is a very common practice in our society nowadays. The usage of drugs can vary
from medical purposes to recreational purposes. What is drugs? 'A drug is any chemical you take
that affects the way your body works.' (Science Museum, What is a drug?, n.d.) So this does not
mean that drugs can only be in the form of pill, tablet, oral solution, and injection drugs can also in
the form of tobacco that contains nicotine, or drinkable substance such as coffee and tea that
contains caffeine and beer that contains alcohol. (Crocq, 2003) For some people nowadays
recreational drugs already become a way of life. Recreational drug is 'a drug used without medical
justification for its psychoactive effects often in the belief that occasional use of such a substance is
not habit–forming or addictive.' (Merriam Webster, recreational drug, 2013) Most of people use
recreational drug in order to enchant their recreational experience. Some of recreational drugs are
illegal in most country but there is some common drugs that are universally legal such as nicotine,
caffeine and alcohol (ethanol). Regretless it is legal or illegal recreational drugs can be categorize
into four major category: Stimulants, Depressants, Opioids and Hallucinogens. (Castle Craig
Hospital, 2013) Stimulants drugs are 'a class of drugs that elevate mood, increase feelings of well–
being, and increase energy and alertness.' (The National Institute on Drug Abuse, Drug Facts
Stimulants, 2013) This types

Internet Usage Addiction
Internet Usage
The internet refers basically to the worldwide interconnection of computer networks that use a
standard protocol called internet protocol suite. The internet serves several billion people worldwide
and has become the most preferred mode of communication between people from different parts of
the world. This has led to it rampant usage and as much as it has noticeable benefits, its limitations
cannot be overlooked either. Internet addiction in teenagers or to say adolescents has been estimated
to be 12% in China, 19.4% in Korea and 8% in Greece approximately (Lin).
To start with, usage of the internet leads to addiction. While the time spend in the internet might be
highly productive, compelling use of the internet can ultimately interfere with your work, the daily
life, and a larger extent interfere with relationships. It leads to a disorder commonly known as
Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD). It is commonly referred to internet overuse, which leads to,
interference of daily normal life. This disorder has undergone several researches and valid data have
been received supporting it. IAD covers a wide variety of impulse–control problems including the
following (Walton);
Cybersex addiction: This refers to uncontrollable use of the internet pornography, Adult sex chat
rooms, or the fantasy role–play sites that will, therefore, affect real life intimate relationships.
Information over–load: Irresistible internet usage for instance database searching, or web

The Usage of Cocaine is Immoral
The Usage of Cocaine is Immoral
In the chapter Against the Legalization of Drugs by James Q. Wilson, he states that "tobacco
shortens one's life, cocaine debases it" (LaFollette, 2010: 333) as a result cocaine, as opposed to
tobacco is morally wrong. Throughout this paper I will be discussing the many different effects and
experiences of using illicit drugs. I will go into details of the harm it imposes towards others such as
their partners, family and friends and how the society and community are affected as well. I will
especially address the physical and emotional harm done to oneself and how the quality of life
begins deteriorated. Overall I will be taking the stand with Wilson, expressing why I agree that using
cocaine is indeed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In our society we have a moral duty to avoid harming others but with the usage of illicit drugs such
as cocaine, social relations and society damages are merely inevitable. Therefore the State may
begin to regulated and place bans on specific drugs under the purpose to protect its people.
Illicit drugs can cause many unlimited types harms towards others such as conflicts. An example is
in a home where there is a drug user, issues with their partners, with other family members and
friends can quickly develop and escalate. Drugs can interfere with relationship by putting their
addiction first instead of their partners. This can result to many disagreements, emotional or physical
confrontations and can cause partnerships to grow apart or even to separate. To have a family
member that is using drugs, can force the members of the family to experience feelings of
helplessness, concern, fear, or terror, failure, and stress. As of friends, they can be discourage to
hang out with the drug users as they may be bad influences, too aggressive or depress towards them
or they may be scared of who they have become. Or it could be the drug users are no longer making
time or putting an effort to contact their friends because they are in a mind state where they have
forgotten about their friends. Harm towards others could be violent acts to strangers or drug dealers
and again towards those

energy usage in offices.

Replacing Desktop PCs and Cathode–Ray Tube Monitors: Over the last decade companies have
shifted to laptop PCs for about 83 percent of the workforce, primarily, in an effort to increase
employee productivity. A secondary benefit has been to significantly improve energy efficiency. To

Intel's studies have shown that raising employees' awareness of how much power their equipment is
consuming, and getting them involved in reducing that amount, is critical to success in reducing
energy use in the office environment. We have taken an example of the Intel Company: Intel
conducted a small PoC that explored how they could encourage behavior modification by showing
employees that small things, such as using standby mode on their laptops or turning off a printer
when it's not being used, can add up to big savings. During this PoC, they first established a baseline
of energy consumption through real–time metering of energy use in 12 cubicles. In one group, they
focused solely on awareness and education. Every two to three days, Intel provided this group with
information on how much energy they were using, and how much it cost. They did not provide any
other information or requests to change behavior to the members of this group. For the second group
they installed a third–party software agent that deployed and enforced power management profiles.
The profiles were set up to put the monitor into standby after ten minutes of idle time, and to put the
PC into standby after 30 minutes of idle time. After two additional weeks of real–time metering,
Intel examined the energy use of the two groups.

(Avolio,2010) Firewall According to (Gattine, 2013).A firewall is a hardware or software system
that deters unauthorized access to or from a network. This can be implemented in both hardware and
software, or a combination of both. Firewalls are mainly used to prevent unauthorized Internet users
from accessing private networks connected to the Internet. All data entering or leaving the intranet
pass through the firewall, which examines each packet and blocks those that do not meet the
specified security criteria. Normally, Firewalls are configured to protect against unauthenticated
interactive logins from the outside world. This helps prevent hackers from logging into machines on
your network. Sophisticated firewalls block traffic from the outside to the inside, but permit users on
the inside to communicate a little more freely with the outside. Firewalls are important since they
provide a single block point, where security and auditing can be imposed. Firewalls provide an
essential logging and auditing function; often, they provide summaries to the administrator about
what type/volume of traffic has been processed through it. This provides important benefit:
Providing this block point can serve the same purpose on your

Bipedalism And Tool Usage
Bipedalism and tool usage were crucial in the evolution of human ancestors. Bipedalism started in
East Africa and led to faster, more efficient travel, and moreover led to hand dominance. Tool usage
started in Africa and made it easier to cut up food and do other difficult jobs, and eventually evolved
into modern civilization. Bipedalism helped human ancestors to run faster and more efficiently to
get away from predators, and tool usage helped make jobs for human ancestors easier and more
efficient since prehistoric times; without these important aspects of development, modern
civilization never would have evolved into what it is today, including large cities, automobiles, or

Essay on Authority and American Usage, by David Foster...
David Foster Wallace, author of the essay "Authority and American Usage*," praises and advocates
for "good" writers who have a strong rhetorical ability, which he defines as "the persuasive use of
language to influence the thoughts and actions of an audience" (Wallace 628). To have a strong
rhetorical ability, an author needs to be aware of whom their audience is, in order to present their
information in a way that will be influential on their audience. Wallace recognizes that an author
who applies a strong rhetorical ability will be able to connect with the audience so that they respond
"not just to [their] utterance but also to [them]" (Wallace 641). An author needs to take into
consideration not just content, syntax and grammatical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Our teacher, Mrs. Hetrick, provided the answer to our question: "These essays could have easily
been generated by a computer program. They tell me nothing about yourselves; why in the world
you are telling me all of this? You need to make me care about the message you are conveying,
otherwise, your writing is useless." She then told us that while we were all communicating in the
proper format, we had failed to take into consideration whom our audience was. In order to truly
persuade and influence our audience, we had to do more than place complicated ideas into a
grammatically immaculate sentences; we need to show the audience why they should care about our
writing; otherwise, they will just lose interest. I realize now that this experience provided a stable
foundation for what I consider to be an example of passionate rhetorical ability, which helps me
reflect on what authors Wallace deems as "good" through their rhetorical strategies.
Wallace distinguishes the "Democratic Spirit" in the writing of Bryan A. Garner, author of A

that "combines rigor and humility, i.e, passionate conviction plus a sedulous respect for the

The Usage Of Stereotypes In Society
The earth is filled with many directions that causes the society to act and think a certain way of
other people. This can be an illustration of a stereotype and even a misconception. In the same way
when learning about a certain type of group you tend to insinuate things that may or may not be true.
That is a way that causes the population to create ideas that are false about certain types of groups.
With this in mind it demonstrates how there are many groups that have been structured to be
identified a certain way because of current actions. Comparatively, as a society we become part of it
by agreeing and by letting it keep going. By stereotyping we presume that a human being has a
whole dimension of personalities and abilities that we conclude all members of that group have.
Stereotypes create advantages and disadvantages that some people find helpful or unpleasing. An
advantage would be that it allows us to acknowledge quickly to situations because of a recent
similar situation. Similarly, a disadvantage would be that it neglects the differences between
individuals. The usage of stereotypes is a huge way in which reduces social world. Since it shortens
the amount of thinking when meeting a new person. Stereotypes are established when the ... Show

Polygraph Use ii
Abstract Polygraph is widely rejected as pseudoscience by the scientific community. Prior to 1998
state and county courts allowed or could allow polygraph evidence to be admissible evidence to
convict or prove guilt. Polygraphs should not be used in Court Rooms, the accuracy of the test have
not and are yet to be proven. Because polygraphs are not accurate and can be manipulated they
should not be used in pretrial or during the trial. Polygraphs affect the mental health world because

Rule 707 was the evidentiary rule focused on in the case. Rule 707 serves the legitimate interest of
ensuring that only reliable evidence is introduced. Here the decision turned on the issue of whether
the defendant is impaired by not being able to use the results from the polygraph to prove his
innocence and to lay the foundation for the reliability on the results. In this case, Rule 707 did not
implicate a sufficiently weighty interest of the accused to raise a constitutional concern under this
Court's precedents. The three cases principally relied upon by the Court of Appeals, Rock v.
Arkansas, 483 U.S. 44, 55, Washington v. Texas, 388 U.S. 14, 23, and Chambers v. Mississippi, 410

The Usage Of Euphemisms And Colloquialisms
We use many euphemisms/colloquialisms in our everyday communication. A euphemism is a nicer
word or phrase that is used to make a sensitive topic less harsh according to dictionary.com (1995).
Colloquialisms are words or phrases that are used to express something other than the words literal
meaning as stated by vocabulary.com (year unknown). Most of the time we hardly know we use
such terms or phrases nor do we know where they originate from. The usage of euphemisms and
colloquialisms is a worldwide tendency. Not only is it a universal thing but the wide variety of social
groups/communities are very diverse in what phrases they use and how they use them. A certain
word I use in many ways, the word I am going to base this writing off of, is a colloquialism. It is a
word that is a very common use back in my home town, Kewaunee Wisconsin, and one I get very
strange looks for here in North Dakota. In this paper I am going to describe to you: how I use balls
and ballsy in conversation with my social groups and what many different meanings, the origins of
the word, the overall reflection of the colloquialism along with other words that may have a hidden
power. The word balls, as well as the word ballsy, can be used as a colloquialism in numerous ways
and be interpreted differently in context and across cultures. Some may think the term to be crude or
vulgar, but I use it without thinking because I grew up around the term being used. One of the main
phrases I use is,

The Usage Of Dietary Supplements
The usage of dietary supplements is very common in United States. Nutrition plays a big role in
maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Not everyone gets the all the essential nutrition so they make it up by
purchasing and consuming dietary supplements. Some of the substances include vitamins, minerals,
enzymes, and amino acids. They come in several oral forms such as tablets, capsules, or powders.
These dietary supplements have been around for a long time but only recently over the past twenty
years have they increased tremendously in sales in the United States. And specifically in 2006, the
world wide market has been estimated at more than US $60 billion (Geyer et al, 2008). This
expansion of supplements flourished later in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But regardless, it became more marketable ever since 1994 when FDA lost most of their power over
regulations on the production of dietary supplements. The Dietary Supplement Health and Education
Act (DSHEA) of 1994 changed significantly how vitamins, herbs and other supplements are
regulated (Ashar et al, 2007). The government realized how important dietary supplements in the
economy was by being commodities used by half the population, which was spending annually
about 4 billion on 4000 products sold by 600 manufacturers (Swann, 2015). The sales for
supplements have skyrocketed and now manufacturers are able to claim they have ingredients in
their products when in reality they do not because of the lack of supervision from the FDA.
Companies should be conducting experiments and doing research to properly market their products
but most of the time they do not and still put their products out. Consumers should be able to have
the freedom to buy their choice of supplements but these products should be regulated to assure
buyers that they are purchasing good quality and safe products.
Aside from trying to buy quality products, regulations of dietary supplements are still quite
unknown to the public so they rely on their healthcare providers for more information. Because
physicians are people who promote health, they should have a basic

Drone Usage And Law Enforcement
Drones in Law Enforcement

CGS 3095 Section U01 – Spring 2015
Abstract
Drone usage has become global, and has affected society on many different levels, both positive and
negative. In the United States, however, over half of the country is uncomfortable with the usage of
drones. Through the analysis of case studies, legislation for drone usage, law enforcement usage of
drones for public safety, and public concern, the ethicality of drone usage is at question. With
Mexico and Australia having a more consistent policy, both countries could be seen as more ethical
through utilitarian and Kantian ethics in comparison to the US.
Drones in Law Enforcement
1 INTRODUCTION
Drones, also known as, unarmed aerial vehicles have become a popular piece of technology used
today in the United States, and around the world in general as well. Law enforcement is one of fields
that has been using drones for many reasons, and because of it, much concern has been at the
forefront of drone usage. Whether it be surveillance, data storage, or privacy concerns, drones have
been used to help enforce laws, solve crime cases, and even prevent crimes from happening [1].
Despite the potential positive impacts that it could have on society, a large number of people still
feel insecure and label drone usage as somewhat unethical [2]. This paper will analyze the ethicality
of drone usage and explain the positive and

The Usage of Textisms is Not Causing Illiteracy in Young People
Recently, cell–phone SMS texting has become an indispensable tool in communication among
young people as it has surpassed all other common forms of interaction in frequency of use.
According to Pew Research Center‟s communication study on texting, "fully 72% of all teens – or
88% of teen cell phone users – are textmessagers. That is a sharp rise from the 51% of teens who

specific language techniques that are used in texts were related to better word reading scores.
Examples of such techniques include, "greater use of contractions (txt instead of text), g clippings
(goin in place of going), symbols (emoticons plus single characters such as & in place of words),
letter/number homophones (2nite), nonconventional spellings (fone), and accent stylization (e.g., elp
instead of help)" (Rosen et al., 2010, p.
422). All of these techniques are regularly used in text messaging and usage could lead to school age
children becoming better readers.
Deciphering textisms often requires using good linguistic strategies that are good intellectual
exercise. Texters need to be able to pronounce words phonetically when they are not spelled in an
orthodox fashion, reinstate vowels that have been removed in the interest of brevity, or have letters
and numbers pronounced as their names (8 for ate) (Kemp, 2010). A National Union of Teachers
spokeswoman suggested that abbreviations used in texts can boost literacy skills because it helps

that person is making sure that woman is okay and in good health for her and the baby. I don't see

Students And Their Technology Usage
Students and Their Technology Usage in the Classroom In the school system today, technology is
one of the most powerful ways to get students to learn. Technology has helped keep students
engaged and focused, while still keeping them entertained when learning. It has also given instant
access to information that at one time was not easy to retrieve unless they went to the library. It has
provided students and teachers with unlimited amounts of of information at their fingertips, enabling
students to come up with new and exciting ideas for projects. Without this being said, it is the
greatest gift to teachers and their students, within all age groups. showing educators it has had a
positive impact on students ' independent research skills. Even though the information is endless
with technology, there are still many cons with it's uses amongst students in the school
system(Porter, Alfanzo1). Studies have shown that students are improving in their research studies
but educators have found that students lack in their critical thinking skills. Many educators fear that
the quality of the resources students are using are not all valid. Students along with many other
people seem to think if it's written by a good source it is true. This may not always be correct and
many articles on internet are not always valid. This can provide false information while doing a

Finally, our society uses mass communication and media as a form of education via research.
Initially, I was unaware of the information I consumed on a daily basis from varying media sources;
however after reviewing my journal of media usage, I became acutely aware of just how influential
media is to my education and understanding of the world. For example, I spend a large amount of
time doing research for my homework– from required research to looking up the meaning of a word
or phrase. I am often exposed to hundreds of sites– functioning as informational sources–with a
simple click on a URL or hyperlink. Our culture is influenced through various mediums of media,
and educated on various topics including, culture, opinions, and people. However, we must be
cautious of the validity of the information we obtain and use, because the media is constantly
attempting to sway or manipulate public opinion. By keeping a journal of my media usage I was
able to better understand how media plays an important role in my life. I also became more aware of
the influence media has on society, and how I can become more cognizant of its notable impacts. In
our society media plays a larger role than most individuals realize. As mass communication and
media are constantly evolving it is important that we understand these changes. Through this
deepened awareness I hope to immerse myself in a media culture that is free from manipulation,

The Usage Of Mobile Usage Behavior
MDU Patterns
Mobile usage behavior was mostly consistent with past studies. In both countries, "Search
information" was identified as one of the most frequent usage behaviors. The result was not
surprising because the ubiquity in accessing information and resources is the major advantage of
using mobile devices over desktop computers. Higher usage of text messages over emails appears to
reflect the current younger generation. Emails may no longer be the primary means of online
communication. Another interesting finding regarding mobile usage patterns was that in Israel
"Check the news and read online magazines" was much higher than in the U.S. This gap may be due
to a cultural difference between the two countries. One possible reason is that historically, Israel has
been facing religious conflicts (Smooha, 1978); therefore Israeli students may be more interested in
the current political news and use mobile devices to obtain up–to–date information on what is going
on in their country.
With respect to academic usage, the results were the same as those found in past research. Students
in both countries do not use mobile devices for academic purposes as much as for other type of
activities. One possible reason is that small mobile devices are not suitable for doing intensive
academic tasks, such as writing research papers. It is easier to write and edit papers with a large
monitor on a desktop computer than a small mobile device. Students may use mobile devices only

After two additional weeks of real–time metering,
Intel examined the energy use of the two groups.

majority users are 35–44 years old, 84 percent, and the lowest percentage, 67 percent, is 65+ years

the percentage of gaming users in 2007 and 2014 is increasing between 31 and 44 percent,

The Spread Of Internet Usage
The spread of Internet usage has impacted the retail sector. As can be seen, many retailers began to
use online channels, as they take advantage of one of the most successful platforms of trade
(Limayem et al., 2000; Levy and Weitz, 2001; Shim et al., 2001). The growth of new online
shopping channels catches the attention of consumers who have become excited to try this new
platform. Although Internet shopping channels seem to be growing, the growth of grocery shopping
via online has been slower than other forms of retail (Yan and Opperwal, 2006). As a result of this,
much research into online grocery shopping has attempted to understand the underlying behaviour
of grocery shopping via the Internet. The studies investigated several aspects such as customer
adoption of online grocery shopping (Verhoef and Langerak, 2001; Hansen, 2005), consumer
response to online grocery shopping (Morganosky and Cude, 2000), customers' attitudes toward
online grocery shopping (Ramus and Nielsen, 2005; Huang and Oppewal, 2006), and the
Technology Adoption Model (TAM) (Kurnia and Chien, 2003; Ahn, 2005). TAM is very popular in
explaining the adoption process of technology. There are various studies that applied TAM such as
those studying health care systems (Holden and Karsh, 2010) and e–commerce acceptance (Pavlou,
2003). Being an example of technological advancement, online grocery shopping can thus be
studied through this lens. According to earlier research into factors that impact

Corporal Punishment And Its Usage
Introduction The topic of whether or not parents and teachers should use corporal punishment in the
name of discipline had caught my eye for several reasons. One of the most important reasons is that
I was beaten by a wooden paddle while I was growing up. I was about 12 years of age when my
teacher beats all of my classmates including me just because one of us was misbehaving. That was
in Baghdad, Iraq, where teachers and parents are allowed to use corporal punishment freely without
any fear. Another reason is that I was born in a Catholic well–educated family that showed me what
love and respect actually is. Hence, my parents didn't accept what that teacher did and went to tell
on her. They thought that a teacher should never do any kind of physical harm to their children, even
if they used to do so. Therefore, I chose this topic to read more about corporal punishment and its
usage in the United States. The key terms that are important in this paper are defined to give a full
understanding of the issue. The term corporal punishment is defined as "the act of disciplining a
child through physical means" ("Corporal Punishment", 2006, p.1). However, there is a legal
definition that most states use, which says, "Parents are allowed to use reasonable force in
physically disciplining their children" ("Corporal Punishment", 2006, p.3). Later on, I will also talk
about the effective ways of disciplining a child that is nonphysical methods. One of them is
"timeouts" which is

Essay on Antibiotic Usage
This optimism has been dissipated long before the 20th century when the proliferation of antibiotic
resistance bacteria became evident as Fleming predicted earlier. With the rapid development of
infectious disease associated with antibiotic resistance forced us to change the way we view disease
and the way we treat patients.
However, antibiotic use has not been without consequence and several factors had contributed to the
development of resistance. Some resistances are due to spontaneous mutation and these mutations
are for select antibiotic resistance whilst other bacteria tend to steal the deoxyribonucleic acid
(DNA) from their counterparts who are already familiar with antibiotics (Mims, 2004; Tenover,
2006).
Antibiotic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One can argue that antibiotics resistance was seen from a distance with the rapid development of
antimicrobial resistance, however, the treatment of animals and humans worldwide is evident that
we breed these animals for human consumption therefore the resistance of transferring through the
food chain is likely (Livermore, 2006). More meals are prepared outside the home and
contamination will go un–noticed until infection started, example the outbreak of Escherichia coli
O157 (DOH, 2006).
As food borne infections increases, so does the use of antibiotics. Social change increased with a
number of immunocompromise people who helped to increase the use of antibiotic fostering
development of resistance. Mycobacterium tuberculosis, a multi–drug resistance organism had
become a major global threat to control tuberculosis, limiting treatment options and shortening of
lives (WHO, 2001).
The development of bacterial resistance left one to think how the human body reacts to antibiotics
and the more antibiotic used the quicker resistance occur. It is important that we understand how
bacteria are classified, their structure, physical appearance, ability to grow in the human body, their
relationship in response to antibiotics and the immune system (Fraise and Bradley, 2009). Chalmers
and Straud (2006) explained that in order to understand bacteria behavior it is vital to consider the
chain of infection whilst some organisms have

Why do so many people use steroids when there are so many health risks and side effects? Do

are baldness, high blood pressure, lowered sex drive, acne, nosebleeds, liver disease, kidney disease,

From personal experience, a football player I knew said "I decided I was going to take steroids to

long as I finished like a man." This football player was so dedicated to being the best that he could
be. He did not even care if he lost his own life. In recent years sports have become a huge industry.
Just this year Alex Rodreguez signed a ten year two hundred and fifty million dollar contract with
the Texas Rangers. This is the biggest contract in sports history. A gold medal in the Olympics can
mean millions of dollars to athletes, coaches, managers, sponsors, and even countries. It is no

When it comes to making money and a lot of it people will do just about anything.
As for physical appearance almost everyone is self–conscience about how they look. For example,

to hide his body. Flexing his muscles, he lets out a sigh of dissatisfaction and disgust at the body he
hates, longing to look like the bodybuilders he admires. Steroids are enormously popular not only on
the sports track, but also in the world of workout gyms and fitness buffs. Most people would like

The Usage Of Visual Aids
Prophet Muhammad ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ was the greatest teacher to have ever lived. Today's methods of
teaching can be seen in many of the Prophet's ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ sayings and actions. One such method
was the use of repetition in order to reinforce the important details of what is being taught. Another
method that is used regularly and effectively by teachers is the use of visual aids. A third method
that we use today that is from the Prophet ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ is the usage of analogies to help the
listener understand better. The Prophet ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ was the best example to mankind and we
should strive to be like him.
Repetition is a method that we see often in many of the hadith of Prophet Muhammad ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬
‫وسلم‬. One example of his use of repetition is in the hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah ‫عنه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫رضي‬‎

He ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ repeated "your mother" three times to show the importance of respecting her

an addiction that can be associated to a physical disease (Lyvers, 1998). Therefore, it is useful to
understand to what extent drug usage is a physical addiction. There has been evidence
demonstrating both psychological and physical addictions in a wide range of case studies and
experiments.
Physical Addiction
A sedative hypnotic is a chemical drug that is prescribed by medical professionals to enhance
anxiety, panic attacks and insomnia that an individual may be dealing with (Smith 2004). Several
individuals use benzodiazepines and other sedative hypnotics to mix them with alcohol and other
drugs which can become toxic. A physical dependency is automatically issued because of the
positive reinforcement that the drug is producing within the body of the individual (Bruner 2013).
Flurazepam is a hypnotic compared to Zopiclone. Zopiclone, although not considered a type of
benzodiazepines, serves as a powerful tranquilizer to the individual. Recent research is able to
demonstrate that this zopiclone is the most useful type of hypnotic;

It should be noted that Gender (Figure 1) was biased towards females but did include a significant number of males. Figure 1 Gender Figure 2 Age Range Age ranges (Figure 2) were representative of varying demographic populations within the United States and were consistent with the 2010 Census Bureau data. Figure 3 Most important choice factors Respondent data (Figure 3) showed the primary reason for smartphone choice was due enormously to phone features and applications available for the smartphone. Smartphone usage data was broken down into 10 categories (Figure 4) with the top 4 being Internet, messaging, email, and social networking. It should be noted that the top 4 are essentially applications that are primarily done from computers and when applied to smartphones, mobility and ease of access is increased significantly. Figure 4 Greatest use on Smartphones Research Questions RESEARCH QUESTIONS The questions explored the following areas: Use of cell phones today including types of phone, usage, age, and gender. In an attempt to understand these areas two broad research questions were formulated. * RQ1 Of the respondents polled who chose their smartphone based on phone features and applications and who were of the age range of 26–35, what were their usages based on gender? • 3. The Problem Of Heroin Usage We all know someone who has suffered from an addiction, whether it be a family member, a classmate, a peer, or a friend of a friend. What is the best way of preventing theses addictions from going too far though? Doctors prescribing medicine, rehab and other sober facilities, parental involvement, or for extreme cases, drugs that will reverse the effects of the addict's usage? Heroin Usage has become a huge problem through our country and our communities in the past decade. Approximately 13.5 million people in the world use opioids, but other surveys indicate that this number is larger now. In fact, according to The National Institute on drug abuse, in 2010, there were 2,789 deaths and in 2011, there were about 4,102 deaths (2015). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second is a drug demand reduction, which focuses mainly on the demand side of drugs. They try to reduce by education and prevention strategies that try to make the potential users much less likely to use illegal drugs. The last way of prevention is getting involved with ex–drug users who need help to stay clean and prevent them from getting involved with illegal substances after treatment takes place (Mentor International,2015). The second approach would be the most effective. It is not costly, nor does it have a negative side effect. As far as I could find, absolutely no one has a problem with informing their kids about the dangers of drugs, such as heroin. However, parental involvement is a portion of this approach and there are some people against that. Other than talking, parent involvement is another approach to prevention. Some parents may go as far as to search through their child's room. Talking to my peers in the classroom, many of them didn 't like the idea of this at all. One of them (Ashley Daily), said that it would be "an invasion of their privacy". Another,(Scarlett Wiant) said that if their parents started doing so, it would ruin their personal relationship. She thought this because she believes this is a huge sign of parents not trusting, nor respecting them. Others however, said that their parents already do this. They said they weren 't ... • 5. Authority and American Usage Authority and American Usage: Part 1 "Authority and American Usage" written by David Foster Wallace, poses an argument about the English language, and the different beliefs of its usage. This essay was written in defense of Bryan A. Garner's, A Dictionary of Modern American Usage. His argument in "Authority and American Usage" is the difference the between prescriptivism perception and the descriptivism perception (Linguistic terms that could easily be made into smaller, more understandable words for people like me). Since the beginning of time, language has evolved. From biblical times, to Shakespearean times, to present day; the English language has been continuously changing since it's birth and has no intentions on stopping. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This makes Wallace an evil genius; revealing that he is in fact, the slyest snoot of all. Another aspect that Wallace goes in depth with is our current writing system. He describes how currently, our education system is leaning more toward a descriptive type of writing style, rather than the traditional and formal prescriptive writing style. Language changes so often that even the way teachers are expecting their student to write are different from that of 20 years ago. Ross 4 "Authority and American Usage," an interesting essay written by the brilliant and quick–witted David Foster Wallace, presents an argument on different ways of understanding the ever–changing American usage in the English language. Keeping up with the English language in America is like chasing your new, untrained puppy down the street. Tiring and basically impossible to get a hold of. Over the past centuries, the English language has evolved so much, that if you took a person from the 13th century and threw them in the middle of New York City in 2013, it would be as if two different languages were being spoken. Wallace's essay is a pretty intriguing, considering half of us really don't wonder "Hmm, what's the proper way to say ___?" or "Shouldn't she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Energy Of Energy Usage Introduction Historically, the distillation of alcohol (spirits, wine and vodka) has been a high–end consumer in terms of energy usage. According to U.S. Dept. of Energy, there are more than 40,000 distillation columns in North America and they consume 40% of the total energy used to operate plants in chemical industries [1]. As a result, researchers have focused their efforts towards developing distillation columns that are more compact, utilize compressors to recirculate latent heat and possess more effective separation technology in order to reduce energy consumption. The principal topics of research that pose effective solutions to these present–day energy challenges are: the use of divided–wall columns (DWC), self–heat recuperation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [3] shows that by using dividing–wall columns, the uninstalled equipment cost for the total column configuration is reduced by about 10%. The capital costs savings result from a reduction equipment quantity. There are also indirect benefits; a dividing–wall column requires less plot area, shorter piping, electrical runs and smaller storm runoff system [3]. When compared to a conventional two– column system, capital costs savings of up to 30% is typical [2]. In summary, fully thermally coupled columns/configurations/ arrangements require less energy than conventional counterparts, because of providing operating conditions that avoid or minimize entropy of mixing formation, which in case of conventional configurations occurs, more or less pronounced, at the feed stage, the ends of the columns, and due to remixing of internal flows [8]. Self–Heat Recuperation Technology In order to separate ethanol contents from water, enormous amounts of heat must be applied to the azeotropic mixture during distillation. According to Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, an ethanol–water mixture must be distilled at 78.3 degrees Celsius to reach the 80 proof content level of standard vodka [9]. As a result, the heat needed to distill vodka creates the need to explore sources of recycled energy. As investigated by Matsuda et al., self–heat recuperation technology utilizes not only latent heat but also the sensible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Inventory Usage Assessment Inventory Usage Assessment When assessing the inventory needs and management the annual figures are unlikely to give sufficient detail regarding potential seasonal fluctuations to be useful. Therefore, it is necessary to look at the trend on a seasonal, or even monthly, basis. The inventory usage for 2009 – 2012 is shown in figure 1 below Figure SEQ Figure * ARABIC 1; Inventory Usage 2009 – 2012 It is apparent that there is volatility in the level of inventory needed in different months. The addition of a trend line gives the equation of the slight increase, which is seen with a slight overall upward slope on the trend line, which may be used of forecast forward using the y intercept equation. The equation is y = 123.51x+39323. As x is the month (or other period given in the data set), according to this for month 49 (Jan 2013) there would be inventory of 40,928.63. However, when looking at the volatility that breaking the data down into years, so that each year may be compared, is likely to indicate the high and low seasons. The data may be placed into a line graph to look at the way that each month compares. This is shown in table 2. Figure SEQ Figure * ARABIC 2; Monthly Inventory Use by Year This shows that there are seasons, with higher demand in the summer months and a decline in winter. The 4th quarter is the lowest season, with December being the lowest usage month, whereas the second quarter is the highest with May as the highest month. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Analyzing Media Usage The first media usage I am going to analyze will be Facebook and the agenda setting idea. Agenda setting is repeated news coverage of an issue over time that raises importance of that issue in the public mind. In the past week when I logged onto Facebook, all I saw were posts about whether or not you should kneel during the national anthem to protest police brutality or stand. Most people who don't watch football would not have any idea of the debate going on. However, since it is all that is being talked about on Facebook, more and more people are seeing it and making it more of an issue. For example, the University of Iowa is hosting a police brutality protest during our homecoming game this upcoming weekend. This post has been shared all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, you get the option to only see the posts you want. Consequently, I think this will have long term effects on my behavior but it is a good thing because it is more efficient. As far as agenda setting goes, I don't think it will have any negative effects on me personally, because its what other people post. If anything I feel agenda setting will keep me more involved and up to date on issues because the more people post or share something the more I will see it. Another theory we discussed in class that I think might effect me in the long term is the spiral of silence theory. The spiral of science theory is when people who believe their opinion is not in the majority, they will not speak out on a contested issue for, the fear of feeling rejected or isolation from a social group. This is true for me, sometimes when I feel like my vote or stance is not in the majority of what others are saying I don't say anything about to contribute because I am afraid I might get rejected by them. I need to learn to voice my own opinion even if it is different from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the today's society, the drug is viewed as horrible and those who are 'dependent' on it are either criminals and/or addicts. There are many researches that were done in the past that criminalized those who use, which bring the term to criminology. Today there are so many drugs that are being used by different people in varies age group and to each drug there is a technique on, how is it use and when is it comes to the usage of drug, it does not discriminate by race nor class. This is what many people tend to forget and with so many pieces published it is very accessible to anyone who is very interested in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To those who does legal drugs aren't considered drug users, but those who uses illegal drug are drug users. There is a problem with perception because opiates are legal, but could have the same effect as illegal drugs; the only difference between the illegal and legal drugs is that one would need to get the drug from a doctor. "Someone who smokes tobacco is a smoker, but someone who smokes marijuana is a drug user. Though both substances are recognized as drugs, one smoke cigarettes, whereas someone else uses marijuana" (Whitearce, 9). The typical stereotype of those who uses drugs are that they are violent, criminals, thieves and/or rapist. In "'Dope Fiend' Mythology" by A. R Lindesmith, he speaks on the many myths about drug and addictions that been floating around for years. He mentions that a drug addict is usually seen as "the most dangerous and heinous criminals and are linked up with killing and rapes" (Lindesmith, 199). Many publications were able to prove that the statement is false and crime report also proves this very stereotype to be false. Yes, some addicts would commit petty crimes like robbery and mugging to get some money from their next high, but to kill and rape is not a crime that is very common with drug users. Other stereotypes are that there is certain race that use certain type of drugs. Like cocaine is linked to Blacks, marijuana is linked to Mexicans immigrants and opium is linked to Chinese. ... Intel's studies have shown that raising employees' awareness of how much power their equipment is consuming, and getting them involved in reducing that amount, is critical to success in reducing energy use in the office environment. We have taken an example of the Intel Company: Intel conducted a small PoC that explored how they could encourage behavior modification by showing employees that small things, such as using standby mode on their laptops or turning off a printer when it's not being used, can add up to big savings. During this PoC, they first established a baseline of energy consumption through real–time metering of energy use in 12 cubicles. In one group, they focused solely on awareness and education. Every two to three days, Intel provided this group with information on how much energy they were using, and how much it cost. They did not provide any other information or requests to change behavior to the members of this group. For the second group they installed a third–party software agent that deployed and enforced power management profiles. The profiles were set up to put the monitor into standby after ten minutes of idle time, and to put the PC into standby after 30 minutes of idle time. After two additional weeks of real–time metering, Intel examined the energy use of the two groups. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All data entering or leaving the intranet pass through the firewall, which examines each packet and blocks those that do not meet the specified security criteria. David Foster Wallace, author of the essay "Authority and American Usage*," praises and advocates for "good" writers who have a strong rhetorical ability, which he defines as "the persuasive use of language to influence the thoughts and actions of an audience" (Wallace 628). To have a strong rhetorical ability, an author needs to be aware of whom their audience is, in order to present their information in a way that will be influential on their audience. Wallace recognizes that an author who applies a strong rhetorical ability will be able to connect with the audience so that they respond "not just to [their] utterance but also to [them]" (Wallace 641). They tell me nothing about yourselves; why in the world you are telling me all of this? You need to make me care about the message you are conveying, otherwise, your writing is useless." She then told us that while we were all communicating in the proper format, we had failed to take into consideration whom our audience was. In order to truly persuade and influence our audience, we had to do more than place complicated ideas into a grammatically immaculate sentences; we need to show the audience why they should care about our writing; otherwise, they will just lose interest. I realize now that this experience provided a stable foundation for what I consider to be an example of passionate rhetorical ability, which helps me reflect on what authors Wallace deems as "good" through their rhetorical strategies. This can be an illustration of a stereotype and even a misconception. In the same way when learning about a certain type of group you tend to insinuate things that may or may not be true. That is a way that causes the population to create ideas that are false about certain types of groups. With this in mind it demonstrates how there are many groups that have been structured to be identified a certain way because of current actions. Comparatively, as a society we become part of it by agreeing and by letting it keep going. By stereotyping we presume that a human being has a whole dimension of personalities and abilities that we conclude all members of that group have. Stereotypes create advantages and disadvantages that some people find helpful or unpleasing. An advantage would be that it allows us to acknowledge quickly to situations because of a recent similar situation. Through this deepened awareness I hope to immerse myself in a media culture that is free from manipulation, bias ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. The Usage Of Mobile Usage Behavior MDU Patterns Mobile usage behavior was mostly consistent with past studies. In both countries, "Search information" was identified as one of the most frequent usage behaviors. The result was not surprising because the ubiquity in accessing information and resources is the major advantage of using mobile devices over desktop computers. Higher usage of text messages over emails appears to reflect the current younger generation. Emails may no longer be the primary means of online communication. Another interesting finding regarding mobile usage patterns was that in Israel "Check the news and read online magazines" was much higher than in the U.S. This gap may be due to a cultural difference between the two countries. One possible reason is that historically, Israel has been facing religious conflicts (Smooha, 1978); therefore Israeli students may be more interested in the current political news and use mobile devices to obtain up–to–date information on what is going on in their country. With respect to academic usage, the results were the same as those found in past research. Students in both countries do not use mobile devices for academic purposes as much as for other type of activities. One possible reason is that small mobile devices are not suitable for doing intensive academic tasks, such as writing research papers. It is easier to write and edit papers with a large monitor on a desktop computer than a small mobile device. Students may use mobile devices only for quick ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Reduce Energy Usage Strategies to Reduce Energy Usage in Offices and increase IT Sustainability Research Studies by Intel Corporation. According to an Intel White Paper of December 2009, Intel reported these studies about reduction of energy usage in offices. Evaluating Enabling Technologies Replacing Desktop PCs and Cathode–Ray Tube Monitors: Over the last decade companies have shifted to laptop PCs for about 83 percent of the workforce, primarily, in an effort to increase employee productivity. A secondary benefit has been to significantly improve energy efficiency. To determine the factors that affect office power consumption, and further improve energy efficiency, Intel conducted a power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 67. Mobile Usage And Social Media In modern society, the relationship between globalization and social media and smartphones is involved with the daily life of people around the world. The use of mobile systems dramatically increased in the 20th century. (Mjos, 2012) This essay will explain the differences and similarities of mobile usages and use of social media between British society and that in my home, Thailand. There are various causes to employ electronic devices and social media, some of which were the same and some different. In order to compare these points, we shall outline the meaning of mobile and social media at the beginning, and then describe the use of mobile in the UK and Thailand, before illustrating which ways we use social media. • 69. The Spread Of Internet Usage The spread of Internet usage has impacted the retail sector. As can be seen, many retailers began to use online channels, as they take advantage of one of the most successful platforms of trade (Limayem et al., 2000; Levy and Weitz, 2001; Shim et al., 2001). The growth of new online shopping channels catches the attention of consumers who have become excited to try this new platform. Although Internet shopping channels seem to be growing, the growth of grocery shopping via online has been slower than other forms of retail (Yan and Opperwal, 2006). As a result of this, much research into online grocery shopping has attempted to understand the underlying behaviour of grocery shopping via the Internet. The studies investigated several aspects such as customer adoption of online grocery shopping (Verhoef and Langerak, 2001; Hansen, 2005), consumer response to online grocery shopping (Morganosky and Cude, 2000), customers' attitudes toward online grocery shopping (Ramus and Nielsen, 2005; Huang and Oppewal, 2006), and the Technology Adoption Model (TAM) (Kurnia and Chien, 2003; Ahn, 2005). TAM is very popular in explaining the adoption process of technology. There are various studies that applied TAM such as those studying health care systems (Holden and Karsh, 2010) and e–commerce acceptance (Pavlou, 2003). Being an example of technological advancement, online grocery shopping can thus be studied through this lens. According to earlier research into factors that impact ... • 71. Corporal Punishment And Its Usage Introduction The topic of whether or not parents and teachers should use corporal punishment in the name of discipline had caught my eye for several reasons. One of the most important reasons is that I was beaten by a wooden paddle while I was growing up. I was about 12 years of age when my teacher beats all of my classmates including me just because one of us was misbehaving. That was in Baghdad, Iraq, where teachers and parents are allowed to use corporal punishment freely without any fear. Another reason is that I was born in a Catholic well–educated family that showed me what love and respect actually is. Hence, my parents didn't accept what that teacher did and went to tell on her. They thought that a teacher should never do any kind of physical harm to their children, even if they used to do so. Therefore, I chose this topic to read more about corporal punishment and its usage in the United States. The key terms that are important in this paper are defined to give a full understanding of the issue. The term corporal punishment is defined as "the act of disciplining a child through physical means" ("Corporal Punishment", 2006, p.1). However, there is a legal definition that most states use, which says, "Parents are allowed to use reasonable force in physically disciplining their children" ("Corporal Punishment", 2006, p.3). Later on, I will also talk about the effective ways of disciplining a child that is nonphysical methods. One of them is "timeouts" which is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Essay on Antibiotic Usage This optimism has been dissipated long before the 20th century when the proliferation of antibiotic resistance bacteria became evident as Fleming predicted earlier. With the rapid development of infectious disease associated with antibiotic resistance forced us to change the way we view disease and the way we treat patients. However, antibiotic use has not been without consequence and several factors had contributed to the development of resistance. Some resistances are due to spontaneous mutation and these mutations are for select antibiotic resistance whilst other bacteria tend to steal the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) from their counterparts who are already familiar with antibiotics (Mims, 2004; Tenover, 2006). Antibiotic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One can argue that antibiotics resistance was seen from a distance with the rapid development of antimicrobial resistance, however, the treatment of animals and humans worldwide is evident that we breed these animals for human consumption therefore the resistance of transferring through the food chain is likely (Livermore, 2006). More meals are prepared outside the home and contamination will go un–noticed until infection started, example the outbreak of Escherichia coli O157 (DOH, 2006). As food borne infections increases, so does the use of antibiotics. Social change increased with a number of immunocompromise people who helped to increase the use of antibiotic fostering development of resistance. Mycobacterium tuberculosis, a multi–drug resistance organism had become a major global threat to control tuberculosis, limiting treatment options and shortening of lives (WHO, 2001). The development of bacterial resistance left one to think how the human body reacts to antibiotics and the more antibiotic used the quicker resistance occur. It is important that we understand how bacteria are classified, their structure, physical appearance, ability to grow in the human body, their relationship in response to antibiotics and the immune system (Fraise and Bradley, 2009). Chalmers and Straud (2006) explained that in order to understand bacteria behavior it is vital to consider the chain of infection whilst some organisms have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Essay on Steroid Usage Steroid Usage Why do so many people use steroids when there are so many health risks and side effects? Do people take steroids because they are not aware of all the risks? Not likely, steroids have been around since the 1930's when Nazi scientists tried to invent drugs that would make German armies more powerful (Banks, Substance Abuse in Sport: The Realities, pg. 13–21). Though steroids were considered harmful and made illegal in 1991 (Berlow, Sports Ethics). Some side affects of steroids are baldness, high blood pressure, lowered sex drive, acne, nosebleeds, liver disease, kidney disease, and many more (Williams, Drugs and Athletic Performance, pg. 88–90). From personal experience, a football player I knew said "I decided I was going to take steroids to get big and strong and aggressive. I didn't care if I died, as long as I completed the season–just as long as I finished like a man." This football player was so dedicated to being the best that he could be. He did not even care if he lost his own life. In recent years sports have become a huge industry. Just this year Alex Rodreguez signed a ten year two hundred and fifty million dollar contract with the Texas Rangers. This is the biggest contract in sports history. A gold medal in the Olympics can mean millions of dollars to athletes, coaches, managers, sponsors, and even countries. It is no wonder more and more people are striving to be the best, and will do whatever it takes to get there. When it comes to making money and a lot of it people will do just about anything. As for physical appearance almost everyone is self–conscience about how they look. For example, he turns to the mirror to stare at his reflection, pushing up the sleeves to the baggy sweater he wears to hide his body. Flexing his muscles, he lets out a sigh of dissatisfaction and disgust at the body he hates, longing to look like the bodybuilders he admires. Steroids are enormously popular not only on the sports track, but also in the world of workout gyms and fitness buffs. Most people would like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. The Usage Of Visual Aids Prophet Muhammad ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ was the greatest teacher to have ever lived. Today's methods of teaching can be seen in many of the Prophet's ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ sayings and actions. One such method was the use of repetition in order to reinforce the important details of what is being taught. Another method that is used regularly and effectively by teachers is the use of visual aids. A third method that we use today that is from the Prophet ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ is the usage of analogies to help the listener understand better. The Prophet ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ was the best example to mankind and we should strive to be like him. Repetition is a method that we see often in many of the hadith of Prophet Muhammad ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ ‫وسلم‬. One example of his use of repetition is in the hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah ‫عنه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫رضي‬‎ . He said, "A man came to the Prophet and said, 'O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship? The Prophet (‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫)صلى‬ said: Your mother. The man said, 'Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man further asked, 'Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man asked again, 'Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your father. (Bukhari, 2706) He ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ repeated "your mother" three times to show the importance of respecting her because of how much hardship she went through for her child and didn't expect anything in return. Prescribed drugs are considered to be advantageous because it is used to assist an individual, regularly a patient, dealing with a specific concern within their body or mind. However, the misuse of nonmedical drugs has been spreading rapidly in the United States. When a drug is misused addictions can arise and cause several troubles in the lives of an individual (Rozenbroek, 2011). It has been broadly accepted to categorize addictive behavior when an individual experiences withdrawal–relief symptoms on the usage of various opium drugs. The use of certain opiates such as heroin may cause individuals to take more of what was originally induced in order for behavior to continue stable. This is known as a physical dependence that is undergone when the drug has caused an addiction that can be associated to a physical disease (Lyvers, 1998). Therefore, it is useful to understand to what extent drug usage is a physical addiction. There has been evidence demonstrating both psychological and physical addictions in a wide range of case studies and experiments. Physical Addiction A sedative hypnotic is a chemical drug that is prescribed by medical professionals to enhance anxiety, panic attacks and insomnia that an individual may be dealing with (Smith 2004). Several individuals use benzodiazepines and other sedative hypnotics to mix them with alcohol and other drugs which can become toxic. A physical dependency is automatically issued because of the positive reinforcement that the drug is producing within the body of the individual (Bruner 2013). Flurazepam is a hypnotic compared to Zopiclone. Zopiclone, although not considered a type of benzodiazepines, serves as a powerful tranquilizer to the individual. Recent research is able to demonstrate that this zopiclone is the most useful type of hypnotic; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
