Subject: Success of Disney Company & Marketing Strategies for Disney FranchiseThis is a memo
that seeks to illustrate and bring out the success efforts and routes used by Bob Iger between the years
2006 and 2012 while at Disney to help deliver and improve quality in our company especially in the
film and the movie industry. Disney has had many successful franchises by offering a variety of
different franchises that target different age groups and genders; they are able to expand their reach.
Not only have they expanding the target market, they changed the ways they reach this market.
Pirates of the Caribbean have been a successful franchise for Disney CEO Bob Iger. This based on the
classic park ride theme. The Pirates of the Caribbean was able to breakthrough into the teen viewing
area. This franchise was the first one of Disney 's to be rated PG–13 (Lamb. C.W., Hair. JF.,
McDaniel. C, 2014). Iger had a great vision for the firm that was pegged on the three main pillars
(White, 2014). These were the expansion into the new global markets, the generation of the greatest
and most creative content possible in the market, and the development of innovative technology that
could fit into the modern industry. Looking at how Disney 's CEO Bob Iger targeted this franchise

Since it has been researched that mass media influences viewers and that children are active learners,
we can assume they are effected by media in their perceptions of the world.
3.0 What is socialization?
Socialization is the process of learning how to behave into a way that is appropriate to our culture,
human infant are born without any culture. Therefore, children must be guide by our parents,
teachers, and mass media to lead the correct moral, social and cultural. This is important in the
process of personality formation, individual experiences to become a unique individual and capable
member of society. Through socialization individuals accept the beliefs, roles, motives, and
behaviours of a certain culture. In short, socialization is the process by which people learn to adopt
the norms, attitudes, and behaviours accepted and practiced by on–going system.
3.1 Mass media
Mass media have profound of impact socialization in modern, high–income societies or both children
and adults. The media function as socializing agents in several ways: inform us about events,
introduce us to a wide variety of people, provide an array of viewpoints, make us aware of produce,

Over the years, animation has taken leaps and bounds to be where it is today. Especially Disney
Animation Studios, who have produced current movies like Tangled and Frozen, which rely solely on
computer rendering, display the latest in animation technology. But when one thinks of Disney
animation, one thing comes to mind always. Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse is the icon of Disney
animation, and rose quickly in popularity among the audience of the world. Mickey is an icon, and
can be identified by anyone anywhere due to how influential he is. But how did he come to be?
Mickey has advanced greatly over the years, and has led many of the strides in improvements in
animation and cinema, starting back in 1928. In test cartoons by Walt Disney, Mickey ... Show more

With the transition to color, the cartoon never looked back, and never was produced in black and
white again. Also, the style of Mickey himself was changed after this cartoon, with his eyes changing
from black dots to more expressive eyes over time, and his body became more flexible where his
joints lost their angularity (Frank). With these improvements, it became easier to incorporate more
emotion into the cartoons, and therefore make the cartoons more in–depth. From personal
observation, I saw the improvements from prior cartoons being that the animation was much more
fluid, with Mickey's arms and other characters movements overall being decently fluid and
continuous. Another thing that is still a main factor of the cartoon is the use of music. The music is
the main driving force of the cartoon, and they do well at incorporating the music into the comedy,
and incorporating different characters with different musical styles and intentions. This can be seen
between Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, Mickey being the conductor and Donald playing a flute to
agitate Mickey. Beside the point, the cartoon is advanced compared to "Steamboat Willie," and it still
imitates the use of repetitive movements for the characters in the shot (Mickey). This increases the
value of the comedy and helps the viewers interpret the situation on the screen. This introduction to
Technicolor along with the integration of synchronized sound leads to the next milestone,

Gender Communications Final Paper: Disney & Aladdin
Today Disney owns a media conglomerate which includes television and radio networks, cable
systems, websites, music and production companies, magazines, sports teams, theaters, publishing
and licensing companies, hotels and of course theme parks. This allows Disney to exert major
influences on the younger population, popular culture and specifically the families that have young
children. Should Disney have the power to control the imagination and influence the thoughts of our
children/younger generations? Through their control of television and movies there are able to
promote negative stereotypes about the education and status of woman. Regarding this particular

Towards the end of the movie, Aladdin uses his own cunning and courage and defeats Jafar and his

"Arabian Night's" was written by Howard Ashman. He submitted two versions of the song and
Disney chose the one that many considered racist, especially by the members of Arab American
community. The song read, "I come from a land from a faraway place where the caravan camel's
roam where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face its barbaric but hey its home." Disney did
end up changing part of the lyrics to "I come from a land from a faraway place where the caravan

the lyrics were still not changed much, The York Times commented in an article stating " It's racists,

Disney 's 1997 film Hercules is an example of Disney 's use of its films to create a media spectacle to
increase awareness of its products through the media and also to use the film contents itself to
promote consumerist behaviours to children. Disney 's release of the film in 1997 amidst a
"promotional blitz" (Giroux, 2001, 160) that included advertising not only the film itself but also toys,
clothing, accessories and electronics all with the Disney branded Hercules featured on them. The
purpose of this was that every child who was exposed to the media hype would also be exposed to the
advertisements for the products that surrounded the film. "Disney was in full force...making sure that
every child...knew that along with the film[Hercules] came stuffed animals, figurines, backpacks,
lunchboxes, tapes, videos and a host of other gadgets." (Giroux, 2001, 161) By doing this Disney
created a direct correlation between the film excitement and the commercial goods that is
undistinguishable for children and therefore pushes them to participate in the spectacle by buying the
Hercules products advertised as well as seeing the film. Disney also shows consumerism within the
film and emphasises the excitement of buying products relating to Hercules. During the song within
the film "from zero to hero" The people of ancient Greece are seen buying

the top of your head and recall your emotions when watching all of them. Since the 1920's,America's

Disney's focus on his dream of becoming a professional artist, desire to spark others' imagination, and
marketing skills commenced his journey of reshaping society. His strict responsibilities as a child
sculpted his hardworking persona and inclination to influence children to derive from regulation and
feed their imagination. He always worked with his older siblings, plowing the fields of the farm,
providing the family food by growing all kinds of vegetables. His father expected perfection, and
when he didn 't acquire it, the children received beatings. This would emotionally scar most
children;however, Walt was resilient. As a teenager, he got up at 3 in the morning to deliver
newspapers for his father's company in the cold. He constantly did for his father, but never received
compensation. His father insisted that being an artist was not a radical goal and prohibited Walt from
creating art, but he continued to sneak out of the house to do so. His dream of a having a cartoon
company never vanished. This determination, along with his innate artistic qualities, helped build his
company. Walt began drawing

Personal Narrative Speech : A Trip To Disneyland
Hey you! Its me, well you from the past. Anyways how have you been? Me, I'm alright just wanted to
talk to you about something, wanted to know if you remembered that time we, well I went to
Disneyland? You don't, well that's what I'm here for, I'm here to help you remember everything about
Disneyland! Do you remember how and why we ended up going? It was for Melanie's (My niece's)
2nd birthday, and for Melina's (My sister's) anniversary.
It all started when you decided to move to Phoenix. That was a very big step for you because you
don't like change. It was also unplanned which is why it was one of my most favorite memories. Meli
(AKA Melina) asked me if I was down to go, and since I've never been there I of course said "YES"
She just laughed at me because me being nineteen she didn't expect me to want to because
Disneyland is for "Kids" But I'm a kid at heart. From the moment she told me that was all I could
think about for the next few days, I thought about if I was going to see my favorite characters; like
Mickey and Minnie Mouse, all of the Toy Story characters, if there were any fun foods to try, and
even on what rides I wanted to get on.
I still remember not sleeping that day because I was so excited I just wanted to be there already, I
think I was more excited then my nieces and nephew who are younger than me, my Nephew who is
14, and my nieces that are 13 and 2. The whole car ride I was trying not to think about it so much

My reaction to these traits is that these are the pillars stones of society and no matter what religion or
belief you belong to you should live by these traits and I feel in modern society these traits are not
followed and that greatly disappoints me. The first one is apparent in my identity because I live on the
earth. Everything I know and love is on the earth and it is important we conserve it for future
generations. If we do not protect the earth we will run out of resources and destroy it. Their will be no
earth, hundreds of millions of people with be starving or dying from disease because of the way we
pollute our earth. That is why I have worked considerably to reduce my carbon footprint by recycling
and reusing things whenever possible. The second one trait relates to me because I am a kind person.
We are all humans we should treat each other like humans. Many people treat other as if they were
animals and that is totally wrong. We all deserve to be equal and treated with dignity and respect
which is why I always try to treat other people like I would want to be treated myself just like Jesus

The Character Of Belle From Beauty And The Beast
Comparing yourself to a fictional character may not be something that has ran through your mind, but
it does not hurt to try it. A fictional characters may have very similar characteristics to you that you
never realized while watching shows or movies. The three fictional characters that most represent my
personality are Belle from Beauty and the Beast for her caring attitude towards others, Regina George
from Mean Girls for her confidence in her actions, and Minnie Mouse from Mickey Mouse Club
House for her friendliness. Belle is an ordinary girl from a small town who then becomes a princess
in the Disney movie Beauty and the Beast, although we have different lifestyles, we also have
similarities; we both are caring and love our fathers. In the beginning of the movie, Belle is shown as
a very humble girl who lives in a small town with her father. Belle is always kind to the townspeople
even though she seems odd to them. Belles father Maurice is also different from the rest, he likes to
create inventions which makes him odd to the rest of the townspeople. Despite the rude comments the
townspeople make about her father, Belle loves him unconditionally and cares about him. Belles
caring personality separates her from the rest of the arrogant young girls from her town. Like Belle, I
like to care a lot about my father. My father is the most important person in my life, he is my role
model. He may not be the most perfect father in the world, but to me he is the best I could

some critics have denounced these efforts as exploitive. They see the preponderance of billboards

Disney's greatest challenge today is to keep a 90year–old brand relevant and current to its core
audience while staying true to its heritage and core brand values. Disney's CEO Bob Iger explained,
"As a brand that people seek out and trust, it opens doors to new platforms and markets, and hence to
new consumers. When you deal with a company that has a great legacy, you deal with decisions and
conflicts that arise from the clash of heritage versus innovation versus relevance. I'm a big believer in
respect for heritage, but I'm also a big believer in the need to innovate and the need to balance that
respect for heritage with a need to be relevant." Internally, Disney has focused on the Disney
Difference–"a value–creation dynamic based on high standards of quality and recognition that set
Disney apart from its competitors." Disney leverages all aspects of its businesses and abilities to
touch its audience in multiple ways, efficiently and economically. Disney's Hannah Montana provides

The Walt Disney Company: The Entertainment King
Starting as a young boy from Missouri, farmer Walter Elias Disney set out to make a mark on society.
After first joining the Red Cross in World War I, he came back determined to be an artist. After
moving to Hollywood in 1923 with his older brother Roy, they founded Disney Brothers Studio. After
diversifying as much as possible, Disney had a firm grasp on the global market share until the 1980's
where the company's revenues began to slump in the film industry. Luckily Sid Bass invested $365

Walt believed the true revenue lay with full–length feature films. In 1937 Walt Disney and his studio
created the world's first full–length, full–color animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
This was the highest–grossing animated movie of all time, even out grossing animated films until the
year 2000 (Exhibit 7). Disney Brothers Studio attempted to increase its market share so cleverly in
the fact that they began a signature trend of stocking shelves with products the day of the film's
release in huge retail stores such as Sears and Woolworth's.
To maintain this competitive advantage and market share, Disney set a goal of releasing two feature–
length films per year, in addition to a large number of shorts. As the company was skyrocketing in
sales and revenue, Disney began to scale up, and employee base grew sevenfold and they even built a
new studio in Burbank. In order to finance these new additions, Disney Brothers Studios went public
in 1940. World War II was a sluggish time for Disney so in 1944 Disney began another trademark
tactic of re–releasing its full–length classic cartoons every few years so as to capture the interest of all
the new generations of children. This strategy became an important source of profits for Disney. After
the war ended, Disney diversified further by creating Walt Disney Music Company to control music
copyrights and to recruit the finest artists. Disney took the diversification strategy to new heights by

his brother Rob got him, there; Disney met Ubbe Eert Iwwerks–known as Ub Iwerks–a cartoonist
who helped Disney launch his artistic career. When Disney and Ub Iwerks joined the Kansas City
Film Ad Company, Disney's focus shifted from newspaper ads to commercials based on cutout
animation. During Disney's time at the company, he became acquainted with cameras and hand drawn
cell animations. His experience at the Film Ad Company prompted Disney to create his own ad
company with Iwerks. Their first employee was Fred Harman, a cartoonist who was famous for his
work "Red Ryder", a comic strip based of the Wild West (Reynolds 90). Disney's cartoons, named
"Laugh–O–Grams", were a huge success. Disney was able to sign a deal with local Kansas City
theaters to show their cartoons and as a result of the cartoons popularity, Disney was able to obtain
his own studio, which was named after his cartoons. The Laugh–O–Grams studio acquired many
other employees and it was in this studio that Walt Disney created, "Alice in Cartoonland", a series of
fairy tales that combined live action and animation. However, the good times lasted only for a

Walt Disney has been making America's dreams come true for years. Through their success at
managing and motivating cast members and the need for other corporations to want this information,
Disney has developed the Disney Institute and Disney University where they provide every part of
their knowledge except brand management or strategic planning (Paton, 1997).
The organizational structure of Disney values the balance between work and life. Disney has
combined business programs with personal fulfillment courses and allows cast–members to bring
family members to business workshops. Disney also empowers employees to think creatively and
once a year host a "Gong Show" (McGowan, 1997), in which any cast member can pitch his or her
idea. The top decision–makers and CEOs all attend and at the end decide on a winner. Many of the
movies and attractions that are affiliated with Disney have come out of the "Gong Show." Disney has
gone the extra step and developed a different language. Visitors to Walt Disney World Resort and the
Disney Institute are referred to as guests. Employees are called cast members, whether they perform
on stage or work behind the scenes, at whatever level. Each cast member has to spend an afternoon as
a Disney character and later share his or her experiences with other cast members who are in training.

projection to sell a million iPhones in Japan unraveled and sales were very low. People of Japan were
already aware of cell phones with a 3G network, which the faster network had been around for

People of Japan do not want to use their cell phone as a personal computer and the problem with the

Walt Disney : The Triumph Of The American Imagination
Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination is a biography about Walt Disney from his
family's history to his legacy he left after his death. Walt Disney is well known across the globe for
his movies that changed the way animation was viewed by the public. When he started out he had to
hand draw every single slide that would go into his movies and now his company uses computers to
animate projects that would have taken Disney a lifetime to produce. Neal Gabler, the author of Walt
Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination, is most well known for his other books, An
Empire of Their Own: How the Jews Invented Hollywood, which won the Los Angeles Times Book
Prize in history, and his biography Winchell: Gossip, Power and the Culture of Celebrity, which Time
named as the best nonfiction book of the year. He also writes for both the New York Times and the
Los Angeles Times. He is married and lives in Amagansett, New York. This book is a very good
choice because it enlightens the reader about one of the most popular cartoonist of all time. Although
everyone is familiar with his work, not many are familiar with the life he had before and after his
cartoons became famous. It is really interesting to make the connections between the man and his

Socialization In My Life
The Socialization of my life. This is how I become who I am. My early socialization has been a big
role in my life along with my significant others, which includes my parents and friends. My defining
moments in my life and the experiences I've faced. Also with the media's help I've become to
understand the simple things. Over the past sixteen years I have learned to become the person i am
today all because of socialization.
First, my early socialization. My family has been a big part of my socialization. My mom has taught
me so many lessons about life, I don't know where to start. My childhood was a learning experience
from the very start. My brother has Autism and I have learned so much throughout the years, how to
be with him, how to work with him and how he understands life. My brother has taught me not to be
judge mental towards people and how to always be kind and patience towards others as everyone is
different. My dad has taught me how to stand up for myself, when I get put in a difficult situation i've
learned how to overcome it.. During my childhood we always did things together. My family is
loving and caring. These have impacted my life now by how I act towards people. I've learned to be
caring, loving, and understanding towards people. I've learned how to stand up for myself, all because
of my family.
Secondly, my experiences. I've had major experiences in my life that lead me to who I am today. I
have a job that has taught me that things don't always come easy. I have had some rough days at work
and I'm started to learn how things work and where my future stands. Me being in track has made me
think. To me track is life because you have to know when you're up to run, you have to know the right
timing on when to run during a relay. Your whole team is counting on you to get the baton as smooth
as possible, to not drop it and to run fast. Our school is counting on you to show that we're the best.
Track is life, because it has taught me that in the future you have people counting on you. Also I like
to plan parties over the holidays and I've learned how to be in charge and plan the itinerary for the
day. Moments like these have really made a difference in my life because I know how things should

How Did Walt Disney Impact The World
Walt Disney set the standard for what American consumers want in their entertainment for years to
come. He is a household name as the majority of people from the past six generations can recognize
at least some of his notable works. The lasting impact Disney had on the film/animation industry in
America in the 1930s has continued growing to today, elevating his status as a pop culture icon. As
Bob Batchelor says in his essay, "For those in the spotlight, those five minutes are going to be

greatest artist of our time; he was a man who believed in the value of fun, and taught us to put clean

Sometimes, if the kids were not behaving properly, Elias would beat them. Walt's father lived a very
religious life and maintained a focused and stern parenting style. While they were growing up, he

When Walt was a child, his father moved their family across the Midwest, from the big city of

Although Snow White isn't anything remarkable with today's computer–generated graphics, the hand–

The new studio was located in Burbanks, California and consisted of several buildings, creating what

would love to be able to just turn the television on and let them watch whatever they would like to
watch, but not everything that comes on TV is kid friendly. So, I decided to sit down and make a
checklist to see which of the children's shows would be the absolute best one for them. After
evaluating many different children's shows, I have decided that Mickey Mouse is by far the most
qualified, because it is very entertaining, educational, and the kids are in love with Mickey and his
friends. The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show is a spirit filled, kid friendly, educational show, my kids
and many children around the world absolutely love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since my children have started watching Mickey Mouse they have learned so much. My two year old
has learned about several different planets, like their names and what they look like. My one year old
has learned about shapes and he recognizes songs that he has heard on their show. At any given
moment you could turn your TV to their show and you will see them teaching something. Absolutely
everything they do on their show is turned into a learning experience. For instance, on one of the
episodes that I watched with my boys, Mickey and his friends were trying to get to Goofy because he
was sick and needed some soup that Minnie had made for him. During their journey they came to
three different pathways, one of which lead to Goofy. Mickey said that they had to follow the path

the three roads to see which one had the same pattern they were looking for, and they asked the kids if
they could help them find the right one. Well, that all showed me that not only had they taught them
about finding things that look alike, but they also showed them the helpfulness of the process of
elimination. When Minnie made Goofy the soup and everyone decided to take it to him, it showed the
children the meaning of true friendship and how to help someone who is in

Walt Disney Company : The World 's Largest Motion Picture...
The Walt Disney Company is one of the world 's largest motion–picture multimedia entertainment
companies in the world. Disney has several sectors in their company, which include two large well–
known theme parks in The United States, which are Disneyland and Disney World. Disney also has
sectors in a production company, several other multi–media companies, consumer products, resorts
and spas.
In the early 1920's, a young man by the name of Walter Disney had a dream of becoming a newspaper
artist, so he went in search of a job and he landed a job at the Pesmen–Rubin Art Studio. From the
experience gained, he continued on to find another job at a Film ad company, where he gained
experience making "hand–drawn cel animations". At this time Walt Disney, decided that he had
enough resources to start his company, he recruited several former co–workers who had experience in
animation and drawing cartoons. With the people Disney recruited, he created a few short animations
called "Laugh–O–Grams" which were a huge success. Unfortunately by the beginning of the year
1923, Walt Disney had to declare Bankruptcy because his company had too much debt.
Even though Walt Disney had to declare bankruptcy and close his company, he did not give up there.
He decided to move to Hollywood, California with his brother Roy in hopes of reopening the
company, which is exactly what happened. When Roy and Walter came to California they started their
business in a small office in which they created a

Therefore, no matter what role an employee plays, whether he, or she, is a cartoon character, or the
President of the company, hands–on training is required to make sure that all team–players become
familiar with the organizational culture of Disney, and think as one unit. Disney's organizational
culture is where the quality, innovation, and decency of the company meet the customer service
output of the employees towards guests(Disney's Organizational Behavioral Concepts, 2008). The
company believes in making sure that families can take a memorable vacation that will be affordable.
By doing so, Disney has become one of the largest entertainment organizations that continue to grow
bigger daily. The company is now global with resorts and theme–parks in countries such as Japan and
France. With the company being so diverse in the global sector, teamwork is highly important for
success and President Robert A. Iger makes sure to stress positive group behavior for each department
and business unit. Group behavior is extremely important in the Disney Company since teamwork is a
part of what has made the company successful over the past 80 years. Employees are encouraged to
take innovative risks and be creative while having fun. Employees participating in activities,

But when one thinks of Disney animation, one thing comes to mind always. Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse is the icon of Disney animation, and rose quickly in popularity among the audience of the world. Mickey is an icon, and can be identified by anyone anywhere due to how influential he is. But how did he come to be? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the transition to color, the cartoon never looked back, and never was produced in black and white again. Also, the style of Mickey himself was changed after this cartoon, with his eyes changing from black dots to more expressive eyes over time, and his body became more flexible where his joints lost their angularity (Frank). With these improvements, it became easier to incorporate more emotion into the cartoons, and therefore make the cartoons more in–depth. From personal observation, I saw the improvements from prior cartoons being that the animation was much more fluid, with Mickey's arms and other characters movements overall being decently fluid and continuous. Another thing that is still a main factor of the cartoon is the use of music. The music is the main driving force of the cartoon, and they do well at incorporating the music into the comedy, and incorporating different characters with different musical styles and intentions. This can be seen between Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, Mickey being the conductor and Donald playing a flute to agitate Mickey. Beside the point, the cartoon is advanced compared to "Steamboat Willie," and it still imitates the use of repetitive movements for the characters in the shot (Mickey). This increases the value of the comedy and helps the viewers interpret the situation on the screen.
