Usability Testing Report
Abstract
Usability testing is the methods through which one familiarizes a select concentration amass with
experiment with the application before releasing it into the wilds of the market trying to decide its
usability. This report depicts a test get ready for leading a convenience test for the plan model of
versatile application for child parenting. The objectives of usability testing is to incorporate setting
up a benchmark of client execution, building up and approving client execution measures, and
recognizing potential plan worries to be routed to enhance the proficiency, efficiency, and end–
client. (Usability.gov, 3.).
Test plan
The usability test objectives were:
To decide the client experience of the highlights.
To decide plan irregularities and convenience issues.
To decide the route mistakes.
To decide the client's commitment in the application.
The testing was done on 3 users. The users were invited in conference room in National University,
Aero Drive. The users were explained to the scenario and procedure. The users were asked to sign
the acceptance letter for recording the activities during testing.

Usability And Technical Communication And Usability
In today's world, designing a website has become a piece of cake. With powerful designing tools
that are available online, anyone can design quality websites in a much shorter amount of time. But
the question to be asked is, "How would a website designer know that his/her website would be user
friendly?" Usability testing is the answer. By definition, usability testing is the evaluation of a
product or service by testing it on the user. Since the product is for the user, it is necessary that users
are involved during the process of creating a product or service. Today, usability testing is not only
limited to the field of information technology, but plays a major role in technical communication. In
this report, I will talk about usability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The central principle of technical communication has always been user focus. Technical
communicators are usually comfortable dealing with users from both technical and non–technical
backgrounds, since they gather information from the technical to communicate with the non–
technical. Technical communicators possess good analytical skills and tend to be familiar with
certain standards that involve interface design principles and style guides (Gaffney 2004).
Therefore, they possess skills that are required by usability professionals.
Today, technical communicators are not only writers of user assistance and related documents, but
they also work as website designers, information architects, content specialists and marketing
communication specialists, to name a few of the sub fields within the field of technical
communication.
USABILITY TECHNIQUES IN TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION
Technical communicators can incorporate certain usability techniques that help them to ensure a
great user experience. These basic usability techniques are as follows:
 Perform usability test on the user documents:
Technical communicators mostly work offshore, and due to the lengthiness of the user guide, testing
the entire document is not feasible most of the time. Therefore, technical communicators can choose
some complicated procedures that are important from a user's perspective, and perform usability test
on these procedures either remotely or one–on–one with the actual users.

Implementation Of The Reporting And Subsequent
Implementation of the reporting and subsequent use of pharmacogenomic variants of significance
will take a multistep process, and require leadership and buy–in to optimize implementation. The
following necessary steps have been described to successfully implement preemptive
Pharmacogenomics testing.2 First, there must be a systematic process for genotyping and for
migrating test results into the EHR. There must be a permissive institutional infrastructure that will
support clinical implementation. There must be a governing committee (usually a subcommittee of
the P&T committee), which provides oversight regarding which test results are part of the EHR, and
which drugs are linked to CDS alerts. This committee must have a ... Show more content on

Stakeholders will include clinical informatics and bioinformatics experts, providers (both specialists
such as genetic counselors and geneticists, and generalists), pharmacists, information security and
privacy personnel, and laboratorians.
The process of developing the EHR interface and CDS content will need to involve users, decision
makers, and evaluators. The users will need to be asked about the tasks they do on a daily basis to
provide patient care, and about the clinical decisions that would benefit from computer decision
support.
Stakeholder/users should be surveyed to find out their needs, by asking questions in the following
areas: What information do you need that you don't have? Where in the EHR would
pharmacogenomic information be located? Would a link–out to a curated definitive information
source help? Or would you prefer a more concise summary linked to the moment of prescribing? Or
both? How will you decide which drugs–gene pairs to implement alerts for in the EHR? What
process will be used to update the system? Who will be responsible? How will new genomic results
be put into the EHR, and converted to phenotypes with defined actions? Who will make sure that the
pharmacogenomic actions are kept up to date with the rapidly advancing field? What do you want
the CDS tool to look like? What level of alerts do you

2.3 Advantages And Disadvantages Of Sharing A Flat With...
In today's world, living cost is becoming very expensive. This rises the trend in sharing flats with
other people in order to reduce renting expenses. Whether the roommate is a friend, a family or a
stranger, conflicts arises but everybody wants to be the ideal flat sharer. When sharing a flat good
communication is the foremost key. People have to adjust themselves to many changes as the other
roommates are strangers and their way of life is different from one self.
When searching for roommates, compatibility is another key to look for to have a peaceful 'home'.
For instance, college students' sharing a flat, away from their families goes through stressful things
in classes, and search for a place to relax afterwards. Having an understanding ... Show more

Evaluation Methods For Best Electronics
After evaluating Best Electronics ' website using three different usability evaluation methods which
are observations, questionnaires and heuristics evaluation.
These usability evaluation methods allowed us to recognize the major flaws of the website, also
assisted to identify the key features and aspects of the website which have to be improved.
The first aspect needs to be changed within the website is the colors and the font size used
throughout the entire website. Based on the heuristics evaluation we performed, the font size used in
the website is big, which makes reading the content uncomfortable, also there are many colors used
in the website without any professionalism , which led to make the website unattractive, also the

It is one of the biggest flaws of the website, for this reason it is essential to create enough space
between the paragraphs and images so the viewer has space to breathe, minimize the paragraphs size
of the content, divide large blocks of information into more manageable groups where natural and
appropriate, avoid content clutter especially on the homepage, present information in more precise
and ordered way to minimize the scrolling required, and finally, organize the content with respect to
the principles of contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity. All these steps must be taken to
accomplish three of our usability goals (effective home page, Clarity of the interface, Motivating
website), as well as to meet two of the Windows Interface Guidelines, "aesthetics" and "simplicity".
Another aspect is the lack of menu, quick links and search engine, based on our observations, users
were not able to find different kinds of information they were looking for, and the reason for that is
because the website does not offer any menu or quick links to allow users to navigate quickly,
additionally, the website does not have a search engine which allows users to find products quickly,
so one goal when redesigning the website is to build a main menu, and

Electronic Commerce And Ecommerce Consumers
Introduction
Electronic commerce or ecommerce allow consumers to exchange goods and services. Most
business or companies are using this service to reach their customers. Ecommerce have expanded
rapidly over the past few years and it is still expanding widely. As we can see nowadays, lot of
companies are investing more money on ecommerce to expand their business because they can see
that the business can reach international market and make more profit [1][2].
One of the businesses that have expanded in the last few years is taxi services by going online and
getting more customers quickly. This allowed them to get more customers quickly than any time

When creating a website the developers have to follow different types of structures and guidelines to
create the website. This is to ensure the quality of the website is met with a high standard. One of
the most common talked issues is web usability where the website should be user–friendly and easy
to use. Web usability provides guidelines for the developers, so that the information which is
presented on the website is simple and clear for the customers.
Appearance: As Nielsen says "Simplicity should be the goal of page design". The website has to be
crafted for the purpose of the service and should be simple. The website should contain all the
necessary information on the pages but the appearance of the website must be professional and

How Usability Is Essential For Any Company With A Web...
"The user experiences usability first and pays later" ~ Jakob Nielsen's
In this era of WORLD WIDE WEB a company's website is the most convenient and accessible
contact approach. So most of the companies, of any kind, entirely rely and focus on their web
presence in order to achieve their goals defined towards their target market. So the storyline is
judgment about any company or business has become truly based on its website appearance and its
clarity and ease of use. If the surfer is having his fill and achieving his goal on your web page
ultimately your company is getting closer to its goal and here you can realize why website usability
is essential for any company with a web presence.

Usability increases benefits for both parties: the User (potential customers) and the Provider (may be
you).
The most important part is visitors can benefit from usability, because:
They will be satisfied, not frustrated, with the web site or product;
They will enjoy interacting with the web site or product;
They will achieve their goals effectively and efficiently;
They will cultivate confidence and trust in the product or web site.
If your users are satisfied, they will become loyal, and may even recommend your product or service
to others.
As a provider you will benefit from usability, because:
Reduced development time and costs;
Reduced support costs;
Reduced user errors;
Reduced training time and costs;

A Product's Usability Achieves Effectiveness, Efficiency,...
Usability is an important concept in human factors. ISO defines usability as the extent in which a
product can be used to achieve goals with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in a specified
context of use. Technology should have an aspect of usability and user friendliness especially in a
clinical context, so that it can reduce cases of medical errors. An information system comprises of
various elements, among them is users who should have a clear understanding of their functions.
Usability as a concept increases productivity and it will reduce costs of training and support. It
reduces cases of errors as it reduces time involved when using the system (Bevan, 2009)
There are three usability themes; effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction. Effectiveness refers to
the ability of the system to do what its users require. There are different users in a clinical
environment that perform different activities with the system; hence an effective system should have
the ability to satisfy multiple users. Efficiency as a theme covers the ability of the technology to
complete the task in the intended time. Technology should be able to reduce the time used in
completing a task. Lastly, the theme of satisfaction is about the notion by users that the information
system is easy to use. For proper use of technology, users should easily associate with it. Users
should be familiar with the technology and they should have a good attitude towards it. Usability
themes are affected by

Accessibility and-or Usability in the Context of Web...
According to Pratt & Nunes (2012), accessibility and/or usability in the context of web design and
computing are two closely related features. Their approaches, goals and guidelines closely overlap
each other, hence it is convenient to collectively consider them in web designing and content
development. However, it may be necessary to be specific sometimes especially when addressing
the issue of discrimination against those with disabilities or in defining the specific accessibility and
usability standards.
This paper addresses the synchronization of accessibility and usability particularly in the
development of accessible computer systems, which promotes usability of appropriate web content.
Accessibility in this case is concerned with ensuring a comparable user experience for all user
regardless of their ability and /or disability including age related impairments. This implies that an
accessible system should be easily understood, perceived, navigated and should interact with the
user without barriers. The access to information as well as access to efficient technology is a
fundamental human right as stipulated in the UN convention on the rights of people with disabilities.
On the other hand, Seffah, Gulliksen & Desmarais (2005) argue that usability revolves around the
design of products which are effective, efficient and user–satisfying. This is an integral part of the
process of human–computer interaction that is primarily user centered so as to yield positive user

The first computerised test assessed social intelligence using the Social/Emotional cognition task
(SECT). The main purpose of this test is to measure the cognitive domain of social cognition. Social
cognition examines how humans process, store and apply information about social situations. It
focuses on the role that cognitive processes play in social interactions. Social cognition focuses on
the way we think about others and how it plays a major role in how we think feel and act with the
world.
In the computerised test, the pre–test instructions ask you to "tap the odd one out". The test presents

Visual learning helps people retrieve and remember information more efficiently.
The first task is an immediate recall task, where there are different shapes on the screen and a box in
the middle. One at a time, one of those shapes will appear in the middle of the screen, and
participants have to select the matching shape from the screen. The second task, the shapes around
the screen are hidden in the same spots, and when a shape appears in the middle of the screen
participants have to select the spot where the matching shape is hidden.
The unit of measurement used for this test is total errors. Where the lower the participants' score of
errors, the better their performance is considered. The average time to complete it for "healthy"
participants is five minutes. (Cogstate, 2016).

Usability Testing
Usability testing is a technique used in user–centered interaction design to evaluate a product by
testing it on users. This can be seen as an irreplaceable usability practice, since it gives direct input
on how real users use the system.[1] This is in contrast with usability inspection methods where
experts use different methods to evaluate a user interface without involving users. Usability testing
focuses on measuring a human–made product's capacity to meet its intended purpose. Examples of
products that commonly benefit from usability testing are foods, consumer products, web sites or
web applications, computer interfaces, documents, and devices. Usability testing measures the
usability, or ease of use, of a specific object or set ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[edit] What usability testing is not Simply gathering opinions on an object or document is market
research or qualitative research rather than usability testing. Usability testing usually involves
systematic observation under controlled conditions to determine how well people can use the
product.[8] However, often both qualitative and usability testing are used in combination, to better
understand users' motivations/perceptions, in addition to their actions. Rather than showing users a
rough draft and asking, "Do you understand this?", usability testing involves watching people trying
to use something for its intended purpose. For example, when testing instructions for assembling a
toy, the test subjects should be given the instructions and a box of parts and, rather than being asked
to comment on the parts and materials, they are asked to put the toy together. Instruction phrasing,
illustration quality, and the toy's design all affect the assembly process. [edit] Methods Setting up a
usability test involves carefully creating a scenario, or realistic situation, wherein the person
performs a list of tasks using the product being tested while observers watch and take notes. Several
other test instruments such as scripted instructions, paper prototypes, and pre– and post–test
questionnaires are also used to gather feedback on the product

Online Learning And E Learning
Chapter 2: Literature Review {Insert Intro Text about Literature Review} 2.1 Online Learning Ever
since the computer evolution the way people learn has changed. Back in the day the major idea of
learning was limited to a physical classroom environment, but since the advent of computers and the
Internet that idea has since changed. Now it is possible to learn anywhere at anytime as long as one
has a computing device and Internet access. There is usually confusion between Online Learning
and E–learning, as people tend to use the two interchangeably in some cases. E–learning otherwise
known as Electronic Learning, is a term used to characterize a learning endeavor carried out on an
electronic device. E–learning does not necessarily mean that the learning material is accessible
online, it can also come in different forms like an educational CD–ROM commonly found at the
back of some textbooks or material than can only be accessed on a campus intranet. Online learning
on the other hand is an educational endeavor that can only be primarily accessed while on the
Internet. Pop (2016) defined E–Learning as "the appropriate use of ICT to enhance the learning –
and can thus take place on campus or in any other context", while defining Online Learning as "A
term describing learning that takes place online and thus requires connection to the Internet". In
summary, Online Learning is a form of E–Learning that is done on the Internet. 2.2 Learning Web

devices to enjoy all of the different aspects of it. A task analysis of a device that could combine all of
these different devices into one (the home media multitasking interface or HMMI) has been

The report that follows is about prototyping, the next step in bringing the HMMI into existence. This

After finding the optimal persona, the constraints of the project were discussed. These constraints
were be framed as Design for X (DfX), in which "X" represented goals for the design. Constraints
are very important to consider while designing because it gives the design team a clear framework to
work under, which will save time and money in the long run. The constraints considered were cost,
manufacturability and quality.
After deciding the persona and considering the constraints, potential users of the HMMI were
surveyed about what features they would expect/like it to have in a user analysis. The user analysis
concentrated on human factors that relate to the potential users of the HMMI, and from the
participants of the questionnaire sent out, an idea of what students are be looking for in this device
was gathered. Some of the answers were expected and already accounted for, yet some of the
feedback was enlightening, and the ideas that were viable were added to the design ideas. Knowing
what features to include, the team then did a task analysis on some of the high–level tasks that will
be included in the HMMI. The team used a hierarchical task analysis (HTA) software called Task
Architect to produce the task analysis. The HTA's were completed to understand what types of
subtasks are necessary for each of the required tasks. Basically, this step helped fill in the smaller
details and logistics of the features that were acquired in the user analysis. After

A Gui Is The Revolution Way Of Using And Pointers,...
A GUI is the revolution way of using and pointers, windows, menus, and icons interfaces
incorporating into UI elements. These features allow users to interact with applications across
innumerable platforms like PDAs, mobile devices, and laptops. Thus, let's take a moment to imagine
this scenario: How would you feel if you entered a library in hopes of finding the ideal book for a
research paper, only to find nothing but endless rows of unlabeled sections? Perhaps you could use
the computer to access the section and a name, but the effort is pointless since they sections are
unidentified. To add to your disarray not only are the sections not categorized, but books are
scattered among sections having no designated area. Clearly, this layout classifies as mind–boggling
and nonsensical. Furthermore, for this purpose developers must heed the design phase by not only
being creative but thinking like a user as well. Developers must concentrate on those factors that
render an application user–friendly. Clarity should be the first step towards ensuring an application
functionality; the user should not feel confounded. On the contrary, they ought to perceive the
application as informative, easy to use and deploy the application with confidence. Discuss whether
or not the application behavior follows your definition of Good GUI Design principles (Include your

Scenario Based Usability Engineering And Software...
Summary
The following analysis takes a look at scenario–based usability engineering and software
architecture–based design and the effects, if any, of each given design technique on software quality
attributes as defined by McCall. McCall lists the following attributes as part of a quality software
product: correctness, reliability, efficiency, integrity, usability, maintainability, flexibility, testability,
portability, reusability, and interoperability. These quality attributes will be used as evaluating
factors in determining whether scenario–based usability engineering or software architecture–based
design can help significantly increase the chances of meeting a project's goal with respect to that
quality attribute. This analysis should provide an overarching view as to which design scenario is
best suited for a project given a set of desired quality goals. Below is an introduction to the two
methods being compared.
Scenario–Based Usability Engineering (SBUE)
SBUE is a design methodology that focuses on creating rich, detailed user–interaction scenarios as a
central representation of the software model. These detailed requirements scenarios are often
constructed using techniques such as participatory design and scenario–based design during the
requirements gathering and analysis phases. These techniques allow for the elicitation of different
users, tasks, artifacts, and activities of a workplace and how they are interconnected that may

Health Information Technology From The Length Of Time That...
Many health information technology (health IT) products are not designed for their intended users
and are inefficient and even dangerous. Federal agencies are responding to this challenge by
developing regulations and reports to guide improved usability. Therefore, clinicians and informatics
nurse specialists (INS) require a suite of skills to understand concepts about the user experience and
to conduct usability tests. Reducing medication errors have been a major focus of computerized
physician order entry (CPOE) implementation. Thus, systems that support clinical decision making
and provide early warnings of changes in patient status can be used to avert medical errors. Rojas

Transcription errors such as a misplaced decimal point and illegible handwriting were major causes
of error. Incomplete orders were a problem that caused additional steps in the nursing workflow. The
implementation of software systems, like CPOE, helps to eradicate these problems. According to
Yui et al., (2012), CPOE is a component of the larger electronic health record (EHR) system which
enables practitioners to enter orders directly into a computer then transmits orders to the order
management system for processing. CPOE is designed to allow clinicians to enter a variety of
orders, such as medications, dietary services, consults, admission and discharge orders, nursing
orders, lab requisitions, and other diagnostic tests, via computer. The idea behind CPOE was for
prescribers, such as physicians, dentists, osteopathic doctors, anesthesiologists, nurse practitioners,
and physician assistants, to enter orders directly into the computer. During the ordering process,
alerts, such as drug allergy warnings, and other decision support rules should be available to assist
health care providers. Once an order is entered, the CPOE system interfaces or integrated with other
EHR components, such as a laboratory or pharmacy system, to process the order. In fact, the term
"order entry" can be misleading, as CPOE is truly an order management system that allows orders to

I have chosen Kiplinger's business website to conduct a web usability analysis. Interactive design is
an evolutionary process, when you take identified problems, visions, needs, and wants reported by
user feedback, then incorporate or fix, and further evaluate to refine and increase the success of a
given product. In this case the product is a website. Sharp, Rogers & Preece, (2007) said this about
iterative design, "When problems are found in user testing, they are fixed and then more test and
observations are carried out to see the effects of the fixes" (P. 425). The company website I have

Analysis of Task: Finding tips for teaching kids how to save
From Kiplinger's home page, a user should search for this type of information in the Starting Out
link located at the top to find the Raising Money Smart Kids link. Users will also find success in
using the search option located at the top right and the site map located on the left side of Kiplinger's
website. Kiplinger logically displays information in the middle of the page under past columns,
book excerpt, allowances & rewards, savings tips, kids & credit, jobs & tax matters, Roth IRAs &
investing, and college prep. For this scenario, the savings tips area has information about "how to
teach young kids to save", this is just what a user would be looking for and the information covers
various age levels.
Examples of Navigational Theories
Navigating a website is similar to driving in a busy city for the first time and as we all know this can
be time consuming and you can get lost very easy if you do not have a road map. Like a driver, users
are concerned with knowing how to get from point A to Z and how to get back to where they were
previously. Website designers can prevent this problem by applying design guidelines and arranging
web content information carefully to help users find their way. Shubin, & Meehan (1997), provided
these tips, "Use of clear and consistent navigational aids (page

The Middle Of Moore 's Law
According to Kuniavsky (2010), the "middle of Moore's" law has allowed for new technology to
become much more powerful, while older technology gets cheaper without losing any power.
Gordon Moore, founder of Intel Corporation, developed Moore's Law which states that every two
years processors transistor densities will double. Moore stated in this in his 1965 analysis, that the
pragmatic model of factors affecting profitability in semiconductor manufacturing. He concluded
that by "1975 economics may dictate squeezing as many as 65,000 components on a single silicon

market. His model was accepted by other companies in the industry. This law as soon put into use
by his own co–founded company, Intel, which has continued to prosper based on his law of nature.
This new strategic decision led the way for the beginning of ubiquitous computing. As the power of
processors increased, the price of older technology decreased. As new CPs were developed, their
market value would remain at an unchanging price while the processing power augmented. New
systems are released with much more power at a faster rate as old systems are replaced. Older
technologies become cheaper without losing any of its ability to process information. For example,
in 1989, the Intel i486 averaged a cost of $1500 and was able to process 16 million instructions per
seconds. In comparison, in 2010, the Atmel's ATTiny could do

M23CDE: USABILITY
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
A business report was prepared on December 2014 to address some usability issues experienced
on
the

restaurant,
http://bastapastanyc.com/ , for improved customers' experience.
For this report, 3 of the 10 Heuristic principles proposed by Jakob Nielsen were used to briefly
evaluate the website aiming to identify major usability issues with the site. These Heuristic
principles used were;
1. Consistency and Standards
2. Visibility of System Status and
3. Match between Systems and Real World
Some Usability issues found from this evaluation were;
1. Poor Navigation Menu ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2). This should be properly categorized.
2
Another usability issue is that users clicking on the "Photos" or "Gallery" link on the site are
expected to see pictures of different meals being served and some interiors of the restaurant. The
"Gallery" link shows abstract pictures not related to the site (see Fig .3) and the "Photos" link shows
video clips of the restaurants rather than pictures. These shows lack of consistency.
Figure 3. Pictures shown in the Gallery menu
2.2 Visibility of System Status
It is assumed the first page that comes up on a website is its "home page" with some design features
to gives potential customers some insight on what the site is all about. The visual design of the site's
"home page" has failed to convey any substantial information that it is indeed a restaurant. Basta
pasta written on the home page meaning "Just Pasta" according to google is not just sufficient
enough to indicate it is a restaurant (see Fig. 4). According to Nielsen (1995), users should always
be informed about what is happening at all time on a system through the right feedbacks. A good
visual design of meals being served should be included at the background of the "home page".

A Study On A Cognitive Walk Through Has Been Conducted Of...
Assignment 3
Summary –
In this report, a cognitive walk–through has been conducted of a mobile app "gomoney NZ"1 which
is a banking application from ANZ bank mainly used for online transactions. A non–user based
evaluation method has been used for finding usability problems and determining various solutions in
order to prevent them.
The primary task for a banking application is fund transfer, it can be either between users two
different accounts or paying a person. In this experiment both the cases has been undertaken which
reveals the lack of some user functionalities and usability defects in the app which needs to fix.
A number of tasks were predefined for the user and various aspects of difficulties faced in the path
have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with the advantages, there are many drawbacks related to usability while using such features
and functionalities on a mobile device.
Below are some general usability issues observed in mobile phones.4
Small screen sizes – On mobile devices font sizes makes a major concern in usability as mobile has
a small screen size which effects the whole rendering of system fonts and thus making an adverse
effect in the usability.
Less distance between elements – Due to compactness of mobiles it needs to allocate a lot of
elements on the screen which makes people confuse about the next step to be taken in order to
complete the action, also it is seen that the element on screen are very close, which makes the screen
look overcrowded and results in accident of clicking unwanted buttons.
Advertisements usage – Worldwide use of mobile has been greatly increased in the 21st century and
it has given a rise in advertisements on mobile devices, the unwanted pop–ups generated while
browsing the web and constant banner advertisement in apps creates an overall bad user experience.
Furthermore, usability issues like cluttering in contents, the inefficiency of the cascading menu,
speech–recognition resulting in incorrect device output.
As mobile being a huge platform consisting of millions of applications, not everything can be

Root Cause Analysis
Determining the potential issues that cause poor usability require a systematic and comprehensive
approach. The key to identifying the root cause of a usability problem is to combine multiple testing
methods. By running separate studies to measure the information architecture and the user interface,
the likelihood of correctly identifying the cause of usability issues is increased. There are several
root cause analysis (RCA) tools used for data collection, data display and analysis, idea generation,
problem solving, and risk assessment (Amatayakul, 2017). A good place to start is with workflow
and process mapping. Comparing what the intended process flow was versus what actually
happened may lend itself to some valuable insight. Revelations ... Show more content on

Naturalness – Naturalness also refers to how familiar and easy an application is to use and to what
extent it follows the "natural" workflow of the system (Hollin, Griffin, & Kachnowski, 2012).
Logically structuring interface content based on work flow and highlighting task–critical
information mirrors user work flow in real health care operations. EMR interface design should
make entry processes as natural as possible for users and avoid mismatches between EHR work
flow and actual clinical processes.
2. Consistency – Consistency is an important usability principle that should be considered in
interactive system interface design in order to reduce learnability and increase task efficiency. Basic
colors and unified form layouts allow users to predict experiences once they learn the patterns of the
system. Standards and conventions in product design should be followed.
3. Minimizing cognitive load – By facilitating efficient information navigation, EHR designers can
reduce a user's mental workload and cognitive processing. This can be accomplished in a variety of
ways. Use a design structure matrix that minimizes or eliminates the number of steps to complete a
task. Rank data in terms of importance and presented only highly ranked items on the screen for
clinicians. Delete objects on screen and that may not be relevant to a user's work domain and
increase relevant domain–related content. Combine related information and use fewer screens to
reduce errors and task completion time.

Technology And The Human Computer Interface
There are certain technology programs that are emerging in the software industry that have key uses.
These current technologies are those that surround the human–computer interface. As a software
engineer, I will use this paper to describe the term "Haptic Feedback," its key uses and why it is
needed. In addition, I will compare the various types of human memory mentioning their impact on
the human–computer interface. I will also give a detailed description of the potential outcomes of
not making use of consistency in the human computer interface, summarize and explain the steps of
user–centric design process and the role of human motion in the human computer interface.
Haptic Feedback Haptic can be defined as the science of applying the touch sensation as well as
control to guide human interactions with the computer applications. This is done using the special
devices such as data gloves and joysticks to enable users to receive computer application feedback
in form of a felt body part sensation, especially the hand. In that regard, it can be deemed that Haptic
Feedback is the feedback that users derive from the interaction with computer applications that is
only felt, not heard or seen. The key uses of Haptic Feedback are in the image outlines delineated by
the feel sensation in a way like object simulation in a location near the user. In this way, it can be
used in the training of individuals to perform tasks that require hand and eye coordination, including

Progress Report on Android Privacy Tools
Introduction
With respect to security and usability, the report included criteria that can be considered relevant
from the perspective of software engineering methodologies and project management side. Some of
them were selected based on their importance held as non–functional requirements. One of the
actual methods of measuring the usability degree of the analyzed tools involves the HCI factor
(Human–Computer Interaction). The deployability refers to how reliable and easy to be designed is
the software from development phase until it arrives into actual production.

Storage: to be able to export XPrivacy 's settings to the SD card
Wakelock: to keep the processor running during batch operations.
Usability – regarded as a measure of easiness in use of the tool from different perspectives. At the
same time, it measures how suitable is the privacy tool for its end users.
How easy is to manipulate the restrictions? In order to apply the restrictions it is needed applications
to be restarted. The entire process is easy and doesn't require advanced using skills from users' end.
Thus from this point of view it can be stated the usability is high. The process can be summarized as
below: at first find the application to restrict in the main application list; then tap on the application
icon; in the end the user must tap the first check box of any category you want to restrict.
Accessibility – it has a high degree as an overall; for instance, the global settings and application
specific settings can be accessed both from the application list 's menu and from the menu of the
application 's
Readability – the detailed view – therefore XPrivacy provides users with possibility of ease in read.
Users' intervention is decreased to minimum – the application of restriction is done in automated
manner.

Introduction
In today's modern world Majority of people lives in a shared accommodation, whether it is a family
home, students living together or the group of strangers living in a shared accommodation. Due to
the busy schedule and clash of work timings people get very less time to communicate with their
fellow residents.
Therefore this lack of communication can leads to various types of conflicts and problems. Like
paying of bills, cleaning the house or cooking. To overcome these issues there is need of sufficient
communications between the residents of the house.
Hence there are various types of methods used by the people to communicate with ... Show more

answers can be made from each user group indentified.
Results: After analyzing the data and all the information collected from the user research we found
the following results: * Those living in private family accommodation or are friends with their
cohabitants are mostly satisfied with current communication. * Those living with strangers felt
communication methods unsatisfactory and would benefit with home communication system. *
Family members and friends mostly communicate verbally and informally whereas strangers use
email/text messaging and more formal communication. * Family members and friends feel that a
home communication system may add too much formality to household. * Accommodation with
more habitants has less effective communication and feels they would benefit more from a home
communication system. * Most interviewees feel that a system should provide notifications, a
calendar and have a touch screen interface. * Some interviewees suggested avatars and user
accounts as well as remote access to the system. * Interviewees suggested that system should be
installed in communal place such as kitchen or hall way in place of a notice board, where there is a
high footfall by all house members daily.

Top 10 Ways Of Increase Usability On Your Website
Top 10 ways to increase usability on your website
In Usability of a website from enhanced content to page layout and designing, user interface to
navigation, downloading speed to ease of use everything matter at its most.
When your user coming to your site can find what they need and accomplish their goals you seem to
achieve usability goal and now you're stepping ahead to turn them into potential customers.
1. Easy to use and compulsive
Accomplishing users' tasks should be just a few clicks away. Users should feel a great ease in
locating call–to–action with least clicks possible. There's simply no need to ask users to fill in
unwanted, unnecessary and long forms. Important messages may be about new arrivals,
product/services should be eye catching.
If uses face readability issues, it generates high chances to create usability problems, here users are
for sure getting antagonize and will rub it up the wrong way and quit, resulting a great loss of
potential customers. Use typography usability guidelines and such design elements decreasing this
issue.
2. Content
Do you see 80–90% of the content that your users might be looking for when see your web page
with a free mind at first glance? If it's so, then it's a quality useable page. No usability expert would
disagree that when considering usability content becomes the priority and the key for its
effectiveness and usability. It's a foremost requirement.
Same goes for how the content is displayed in your "page layout"

AIALS Case Study
Designing for Success As early as the 1980s, AIALS were used as tools in the classroom, albeit on a
much smaller scale. An artificially intelligent assessment learning systems that is designed for
success, is "user–centered and addresses user–relevant issues at all stages in whatever form is
appropriate" (Dillon, 1994, p. 19). This phenomena was supported by Hung et al. (2015) who
indicated that a system that is well–designed should allow its users to navigate it easily, use its
features and tools and respond appropriately to features of the systems. Hence, a well–designed
AIALS is intentionally designed according to usability principles and with features and tools to
yield learning gains for users. Generally, AIALS consists of four ... Show more content on

These dimensions are viewed as the fundamental user requirements for defining the functionalities
of a good user interface, hence according to the ISO 9241–210 standard, usability is the
measurement of how a product is used to accomplish specific tasks with effectiveness, efficiency
and satisfaction within a prescribed setting (Kaasinen et al., 2015). According to Chughtai, Zhang,
and Craig (2015) usability takes into account how easy it is to learn and use a system, including easy
navigation for average users. Nielsen (1994) posited that usability is a significant factor of interface
design in order to ensure a user–friendly system that is easy to use. Kodavali and Blessing (2011)
suggested that usability is an important factor when designing intelligent learning systems,
otherwise, the goal/s of the system may be defeated. Additionally, Lin, Wu, and Hsueh (2014)
indicated that recent studies on usability testing of an AIALS revealed that there is a direct positive
relationship between usability and learning effectiveness. The integration of usability principles in
the design and development of AIALS is important. It involves a user–centered focus approach that
is used to increase the overall effectiveness of learning systems (Hung et al., 2015); Sharp & Preece,
2011).
User Experience (UX) The ISO 9241–210 defined user experience (UX) as "a person's perceptions
and responses resulting from the use and/or anticipated use of a product, system or service". The

The Hunger Relief Organization At The Puyallup Food Bank
Introduction
According to Feeding America, a U.S. Hunger Relief Organization, over 50 million people suffer
from hunger in America. Although a complex issue, nonprofit organizations such as food banks
make tremendous contributions each year toward combating hunger. Unfortunately, the majority of
food donated to the Puyallup Food Bank located in Puyallup, Washington is heavily processed. A
heavily processed diet can lead to nutritional deficiencies in fiber, calcium, iron and vitamins. These
nutrients are vital to human survival.
Additionally, during non–holiday months, donations to the Puyallup Food Bank decrease
considerably. To change this and help the food bank receive sufficient nutritional food donations
year–round, team 6 decided to repurpose Sarah Pike's research project.
Using Ms. Pike's research, we realized the Puyallup Food Bank had issues in communicating its
needs effectively with the community. To assist in correcting this, we felt the design of a simple,
visually interesting "call to action" pamphlet would be an appropriate tool.
To accomplish the creation of this pamphlet, we broke the collaboration up into four tasks:
Write a project justification statement
Develop the pamphlet content through delegated research assignments
Design the pamphlet
Test the pamphlet effectiveness by obtaining feedback & finalizing the content
Our overall goal in completing this project is to create an effective pamphlet that will educate the
residents of Puyallup,

The Aesthetic Role of Omnichannel
This paper examines the role of aesthetics in omnichannel user experience by surveying existing
research done in the fields of design, human–computer interaction (HCI), informatics, and cognitive
psychology. Aesthetics are one of many important factors in HCI and research shows that aesthetics
can significantly affect perception, cognition, and usability for computer systems, websites, and user
interfaces. First, the paper identifies the components of aesthetics and their role in user experience
and user interface (UX/UI) design, then examines relevant research in the domain, and finally looks
at the implications of aesthetics in designing for the rapidly expanding world of experience design,
referred to as the cross–channel, multi–modal, or omnichannel experience. Ultimately, this paper
seeks to demonstrate how visual aesthetics can enhance or detract from brand perception, perceived
or real system usability, cognitive load, and the overall user experience.
Keywords: User Interface, Aesthetics, User Experience, Omnichannel
The Role of Aesthetics in OmniChannel User Experience Design
Aesthetics and their role in experience design have been thoroughly researched in the disciplines of
human factors, cognitive psychology, informatics, and design. Numerous studies examined in this
paper will demonstrate how aesthetics can dramatically affect user response to the perceived
credibility and usability of products and systems (David, Glore, 2001). The importance of

Bioinformatics involves complex data visualization techniques that are technologically advanced
and therefore prone to cognitive overload. The study conducted to review current human factors
research in interaction, usability and visualization within bioinformatics, concluded that human
factors play a significant role in designing and evaluating information visualization tools. Perception
of bioinformatics tools by users goes a long way in influencing their understanding of the complex
data as well as the perceived usability and accessibility of these systems [3 cite the reference not
number].
According to [10 cite the reference not number] cognitive overload has also been identified as an
EMR usability problem in evaluations conducted as part of some other studies. For example, Rose et
al. (2005) suggested that when the amount of information presented in an interface increases, user
attention is divided, as in multiple–task performances, the probability of errors increases.
Minimization of cognitive load has been highlighted in a literature review of usability and safety in
the electronic medical records interface design. As per [1 cite the reference not number] cognitive
overload was often associated with responses of confusion and uncertainty, especially when
participants had multiple visual cues to focus on in the visual displays.
Additionally [2 cite the reference not number] research has shown that poorly designed technologies

Difference Between Uxi And Ux
Looking for a one–liner and easy to understand 'difference between UI and UX design'? Just so you
know, you have stumbled upon just the right source.
In a layman language, UX is the experience that a person has as they interact with your product and
UI is basically the look and feel of the product.
Ofcourse this is the simplest version of the UX and UI definition and is giving a very limited view
of the subject. And obviously for a detailed version, one will have to dive in deep.
Let's understand it in bits and pieces first.
What is UX?
The technical definition given by Don Norman and Jakob Nielsen says, "The first requirement for
an exemplary user experience is to meet the exact needs of the customer, without fuss or bother.
Next, comes simplicity and elegance that produce products that are a joy to own, a joy to use.

What's the difference between UI and UX?
Go through the take of various influencers on the subject.
1. Ken Norton – Partner at Google Ventures, Ex–Product Manager at Google
"Start with a problem we'd like to solve. UX design is focused on anything that affects the user's
journey to solve that problem, positive or negative, both on–screen and off. UI design is focused on
how the product's surfaces look and function. The user interface is the only piece of that journey. I
like the restaurant analogy I've heard others use: UI is the table, chair, plate, glass, and utensils. UX
is everything from the food, to the service, parking, lighting, and music."
2. Andy Budd – Co–founder of Clearleft, Founder of UX London
"Common logic would suggest that, if you design the UI, and a person experiences a product
through the UI, that makes you a User Experience Designer. However, this would also imply that
designing your own home makes you an architect, and fixing a tap makes you a

The Tranformation of the Smartphone
1. INTRODUCTION
In the history of smartphones, the revolutionary technologies have made a agreat transformation
from the giant brick–structure smartphones in 1995 to slim and stylish form factor nowadays. Over
the past few decades ago, smartphones become more abundant, for instance, 300 million units were
sold world–wide in 2010 [] while one out of two Americans started using smartphones mobile
phones in the year 2011 []. This has caused Smart mobile operating system (OS) to become a
blazing hot issue, after Apple reintroduced the term "Smart" in a phone in the year 2007. An
Android phone manufacturer, Samsung, sold 319.8 million units 32.2 percent, a 15% increase from
2012 whereas Apple sold 153.5 million iPhones worldwide with a 15.5 % market share. In the year
2013 alone, global smart phones shipments boost up 41 percent to reach a record–high 990 million
units according to the Thomson Reuters, the world's largest international multimedia news.
However, under the hood of market statistics, an enormous technical progress has been made since
the inception of mobile devices. As the performance of the mobile device becomes significantly
increased, the potential use of such devices is also tremendous. As a result, the developers are now
facing the challenge of designing not only hardware architectures but also complex software. One of
the most challenging problems is to design a well usable smartphone. For instance, the process of

  • 3. Usability And Technical Communication And Usability In today's world, designing a website has become a piece of cake. With powerful designing tools that are available online, anyone can design quality websites in a much shorter amount of time. But the question to be asked is, "How would a website designer know that his/her website would be user friendly?" Usability testing is the answer. By definition, usability testing is the evaluation of a product or service by testing it on the user. Since the product is for the user, it is necessary that users are involved during the process of creating a product or service. Today, usability testing is not only limited to the field of information technology, but plays a major role in technical communication. In this report, I will talk about usability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The central principle of technical communication has always been user focus. Technical communicators are usually comfortable dealing with users from both technical and non–technical backgrounds, since they gather information from the technical to communicate with the non– technical. Technical communicators possess good analytical skills and tend to be familiar with certain standards that involve interface design principles and style guides (Gaffney 2004). Therefore, they possess skills that are required by usability professionals. Today, technical communicators are not only writers of user assistance and related documents, but they also work as website designers, information architects, content specialists and marketing communication specialists, to name a few of the sub fields within the field of technical communication. USABILITY TECHNIQUES IN TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION Technical communicators can incorporate certain usability techniques that help them to ensure a great user experience. These basic usability techniques are as follows:  Perform usability test on the user documents: Technical communicators mostly work offshore, and due to the lengthiness of the user guide, testing the entire document is not feasible most of the time. Therefore, technical communicators can choose some complicated procedures that are important from a user's perspective, and perform usability test on these procedures either remotely or one–on–one with the actual users.  ... • 5. Implementation Of The Reporting And Subsequent Implementation of the reporting and subsequent use of pharmacogenomic variants of significance will take a multistep process, and require leadership and buy–in to optimize implementation. The following necessary steps have been described to successfully implement preemptive Pharmacogenomics testing.2 First, there must be a systematic process for genotyping and for migrating test results into the EHR. There must be a permissive institutional infrastructure that will support clinical implementation. There must be a governing committee (usually a subcommittee of the P&T committee), which provides oversight regarding which test results are part of the EHR, and which drugs are linked to CDS alerts. This committee must have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stakeholders will include clinical informatics and bioinformatics experts, providers (both specialists such as genetic counselors and geneticists, and generalists), pharmacists, information security and privacy personnel, and laboratorians. The process of developing the EHR interface and CDS content will need to involve users, decision makers, and evaluators. The users will need to be asked about the tasks they do on a daily basis to provide patient care, and about the clinical decisions that would benefit from computer decision support. Stakeholder/users should be surveyed to find out their needs, by asking questions in the following areas: What information do you need that you don't have? Where in the EHR would pharmacogenomic information be located? Would a link–out to a curated definitive information source help? Or would you prefer a more concise summary linked to the moment of prescribing? Or both? How will you decide which drugs–gene pairs to implement alerts for in the EHR? What process will be used to update the system? Who will be responsible? How will new genomic results be put into the EHR, and converted to phenotypes with defined actions? Who will make sure that the pharmacogenomic actions are kept up to date with the rapidly advancing field? What do you want the CDS tool to look like? What level of alerts do you ... Evaluation Methods For Best Electronics After evaluating Best Electronics ' website using three different usability evaluation methods which are observations, questionnaires and heuristics evaluation. These usability evaluation methods allowed us to recognize the major flaws of the website, also assisted to identify the key features and aspects of the website which have to be improved. The first aspect needs to be changed within the website is the colors and the font size used throughout the entire website. It is one of the biggest flaws of the website, for this reason it is essential to create enough space between the paragraphs and images so the viewer has space to breathe, minimize the paragraphs size of the content, divide large blocks of information into more manageable groups where natural and appropriate, avoid content clutter especially on the homepage, present information in more precise and ordered way to minimize the scrolling required, and finally, organize the content with respect to the principles of contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity. All these steps must be taken to accomplish three of our usability goals (effective home page, Clarity of the interface, Motivating website), as well as to meet two of the Windows Interface Guidelines, "aesthetics" and "simplicity". Another aspect is the lack of menu, quick links and search engine, based on our observations, users were not able to find different kinds of information they were looking for, and the reason for that is because the website does not offer any menu or quick links to allow users to navigate quickly, additionally, the website does not have a search engine which allows users to find products quickly, so one goal when redesigning the website is to build a main menu, and ... ISO defines usability as the extent in which a product can be used to achieve goals with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in a specified context of use. Technology should have an aspect of usability and user friendliness especially in a clinical context, so that it can reduce cases of medical errors. An information system comprises of various elements, among them is users who should have a clear understanding of their functions. Usability as a concept increases productivity and it will reduce costs of training and support. It reduces cases of errors as it reduces time involved when using the system (Bevan, 2009) There are three usability themes; effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction. Effectiveness refers to the ability of the system to do what its users require. There are different users in a clinical environment that perform different activities with the system; hence an effective system should have the ability to satisfy multiple users. Efficiency as a theme covers the ability of the technology to complete the task in the intended time. Technology should be able to reduce the time used in completing a task. Lastly, the theme of satisfaction is about the notion by users that the information system is easy to use. For proper use of technology, users should easily associate with it. • 20. Accessibility and-or Usability in the Context of Web... According to Pratt & Nunes (2012), accessibility and/or usability in the context of web design and computing are two closely related features. Their approaches, goals and guidelines closely overlap each other, hence it is convenient to collectively consider them in web designing and content development. However, it may be necessary to be specific sometimes especially when addressing the issue of discrimination against those with disabilities or in defining the specific accessibility and usability standards. This paper addresses the synchronization of accessibility and usability particularly in the development of accessible computer systems, which promotes usability of appropriate web content. Accessibility in this case is concerned with ensuring a comparable user experience for all user regardless of their ability and /or disability including age related impairments. This implies that an accessible system should be easily understood, perceived, navigated and should interact with the user without barriers. The access to information as well as access to efficient technology is a fundamental human right as stipulated in the UN convention on the rights of people with disabilities. On the other hand, Seffah, Gulliksen & Desmarais (2005) argue that usability revolves around the design of products which are effective, efficient and user–satisfying. This is an integral part of the process of human–computer interaction that is primarily user centered so as to yield positive user ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main purpose of this test is to measure the cognitive domain of social cognition. Social cognition examines how humans process, store and apply information about social situations. It focuses on the role that cognitive processes play in social interactions. Social cognition focuses on the way we think about others and how it plays a major role in how we think feel and act with the world. In the computerised test, the pre–test instructions ask you to "tap the odd one out". The test's pre–test instructions ask participants "in what location did these pictures belong?" Visual learning helps people retrieve and remember information more efficiently. The first task is an immediate recall task, where there are different shapes on the screen and a box in the middle. One at a time, one of those shapes will appear in the middle of the screen, and participants have to select the matching shape from the screen. The second task, the shapes around the screen are hidden in the same spots, and when a shape appears in the middle of the screen participants have to select the spot where the matching shape is hidden. The unit of measurement used for this test is total errors. Where the lower the participants' score of errors, the better their performance is considered. The average time to complete it for "healthy" participants is five minutes. (Cogstate, 2016). • 26. Usability Testing Usability testing is a technique used in user–centered interaction design to evaluate a product by testing it on users. This can be seen as an irreplaceable usability practice, since it gives direct input on how real users use the system.[1] This is in contrast with usability inspection methods where experts use different methods to evaluate a user interface without involving users. Usability testing focuses on measuring a human–made product's capacity to meet its intended purpose. Examples of products that commonly benefit from usability testing are foods, consumer products, web sites or web applications, computer interfaces, documents, and devices. Usability testing measures the usability, or ease of use, of a specific object or set ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [edit] What usability testing is not Simply gathering opinions on an object or document is market research or qualitative research rather than usability testing. Usability testing usually involves systematic observation under controlled conditions to determine how well people can use the product.[8] However, often both qualitative and usability testing are used in combination, to better understand users' motivations/perceptions, in addition to their actions. Rather than showing users a rough draft and asking, "Do you understand this?", usability testing involves watching people trying to use something for its intended purpose. For example, when testing instructions for assembling a toy, the test subjects should be given the instructions and a box of parts and, rather than being asked to comment on the parts and materials, they are asked to put the toy together. Instruction phrasing, illustration quality, and the toy's design all affect the assembly process. [edit] Methods Setting up a usability test involves carefully creating a scenario, or realistic situation, wherein the person performs a list of tasks using the product being tested while observers watch and take notes. Several other test instruments such as scripted instructions, paper prototypes, and pre– and post–test questionnaires are also used to gather feedback on the product ... • 30. Online Learning And E Learning Chapter 2: Literature Review {Insert Intro Text about Literature Review} 2.1 Online Learning Ever since the computer evolution the way people learn has changed. Back in the day the major idea of learning was limited to a physical classroom environment, but since the advent of computers and the Internet that idea has since changed. Now it is possible to learn anywhere at anytime as long as one has a computing device and Internet access. There is usually confusion between Online Learning and E–learning, as people tend to use the two interchangeably in some cases. E–learning otherwise known as Electronic Learning, is a term used to characterize a learning endeavor carried out on an electronic device. E–learning does not necessarily mean that the learning material is accessible online, it can also come in different forms like an educational CD–ROM commonly found at the back of some textbooks or material than can only be accessed on a campus intranet. Online learning on the other hand is an educational endeavor that can only be primarily accessed while on the Internet. Pop (2016) defined E–Learning as "the appropriate use of ICT to enhance the learning – and can thus take place on campus or in any other context", while defining Online Learning as "A term describing learning that takes place online and thus requires connection to the Internet". In summary, Online Learning is a form of E–Learning that is done on the Internet. 2.2 Learning Web Development Over the last decade ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A task analysis of a device that could combine all of these different devices into one (the home media multitasking interface or HMMI) has been accepted, and is attached in Appendix A for reference. The report that follows is about prototyping, the next step in bringing the HMMI into existence. This will include two design proposals based on the previous research attached in Appendix A. After describing the proposals, one of them will be deemed viable and be chosen to move ahead to the prototyping stage. Sketches of the chosen prototype will be attached in Appendix B. Along ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After finding the optimal persona, the constraints of the project were discussed. These constraints were be framed as Design for X (DfX), in which "X" represented goals for the design. Constraints are very important to consider while designing because it gives the design team a clear framework to work under, which will save time and money in the long run. The constraints considered were cost, manufacturability and quality. After deciding the persona and considering the constraints, potential users of the HMMI were surveyed about what features they would expect/like it to have in a user analysis. The user analysis concentrated on human factors that relate to the potential users of the HMMI, and from the participants of the questionnaire sent out, an idea of what students are be looking for in this device was gathered. Some of the answers were expected and already accounted for, yet some of the feedback was enlightening, and the ideas that were viable were added to the design ideas. Knowing what features to include, the team then did a task analysis on some of the high–level tasks that will be included in the HMMI. The team used a hierarchical task analysis (HTA) software called Task Architect to produce the task analysis. The HTA's were completed to understand what types of subtasks are necessary for each of the required tasks. Basically, this step helped fill in the smaller details and logistics of the features that were acquired in the user analysis. After ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These features allow users to interact with applications across innumerable platforms like PDAs, mobile devices, and laptops. Thus, let's take a moment to imagine this scenario: How would you feel if you entered a library in hopes of finding the ideal book for a research paper, only to find nothing but endless rows of unlabeled sections? Perhaps you could use the computer to access the section and a name, but the effort is pointless since they sections are unidentified. To add to your disarray not only are the sections not categorized, but books are scattered among sections having no designated area. Clearly, this layout classifies as mind–boggling and nonsensical. Furthermore, for this purpose developers must heed the design phase by not only being creative but thinking like a user as well. Developers must concentrate on those factors that render an application user–friendly. Clarity should be the first step towards ensuring an application functionality; the user should not feel confounded. On the contrary, they ought to perceive the application as informative, easy to use and deploy the application with confidence. • 36. Scenario Based Usability Engineering And Software... Summary The following analysis takes a look at scenario–based usability engineering and software architecture–based design and the effects, if any, of each given design technique on software quality attributes as defined by McCall. McCall lists the following attributes as part of a quality software product: correctness, reliability, efficiency, integrity, usability, maintainability, flexibility, testability, portability, reusability, and interoperability. These quality attributes will be used as evaluating factors in determining whether scenario–based usability engineering or software architecture–based design can help significantly increase the chances of meeting a project's goal with respect to that quality attribute. This analysis should provide an overarching view as to which design scenario is best suited for a project given a set of desired quality goals. Below is an introduction to the two methods being compared. Scenario–Based Usability Engineering (SBUE) SBUE is a design methodology that focuses on creating rich, detailed user–interaction scenarios as a central representation of the software model. These detailed requirements scenarios are often constructed using techniques such as participatory design and scenario–based design during the requirements gathering and analysis phases. These techniques allow for the elicitation of different users, tasks, artifacts, and activities of a workplace and how they are interconnected that may otherwise go unnoticed during a ... Many health information technology (health IT) products are not designed for their intended users and are inefficient and even dangerous. Federal agencies are responding to this challenge by developing regulations and reports to guide improved usability. Therefore, clinicians and informatics nurse specialists (INS) require a suite of skills to understand concepts about the user experience and to conduct usability tests. Reducing medication errors have been a major focus of computerized physician order entry (CPOE) implementation. Thus, systems that support clinical decision making and provide early warnings of changes in patient status can be used to avert medical errors. Transcription errors such as a misplaced decimal point and illegible handwriting were major causes of error. Incomplete orders were a problem that caused additional steps in the nursing workflow. The implementation of software systems, like CPOE, helps to eradicate these problems. According to Yui et al., (2012), CPOE is a component of the larger electronic health record (EHR) system which enables practitioners to enter orders directly into a computer then transmits orders to the order management system for processing. CPOE is designed to allow clinicians to enter a variety of orders, such as medications, dietary services, consults, admission and discharge orders, nursing orders, lab requisitions, and other diagnostic tests, via computer. The idea behind CPOE was for prescribers, such as physicians, dentists, osteopathic doctors, anesthesiologists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, to enter orders directly into the computer. During the ordering process, alerts, such as drug allergy warnings, and other decision support rules should be available to assist health care providers. Once an order is entered, the CPOE system interfaces or integrated with other EHR components, such as a laboratory or pharmacy system, to process the order. In fact, the term "order entry" can be misleading, as CPOE is truly an order management system that allows orders to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Interactive design is an evolutionary process, when you take identified problems, visions, needs, and wants reported by user feedback, then incorporate or fix, and further evaluate to refine and increase the success of a given product. In this case the product is a website. Sharp, Rogers & Preece, (2007) said this about iterative design, "When problems are found in user testing, they are fixed and then more test and observations are carried out to see the effects of the fixes" (P. 425). The company website I have chosen will be analyzed using a critical eye that delves further into examples of specific factors that directly impact the usability ... Users will also find success in using the search option located at the top right and the site map located on the left side of Kiplinger's website. Kiplinger logically displays information in the middle of the page under past columns, book excerpt, allowances & rewards, savings tips, kids & credit, jobs & tax matters, Roth IRAs & investing, and college prep. For this scenario, the savings tips area has information about "how to teach young kids to save", this is just what a user would be looking for and the information covers various age levels. Examples of Navigational Theories Navigating a website is similar to driving in a busy city for the first time and as we all know this can be time consuming and you can get lost very easy if you do not have a road map. Like a driver, users are concerned with knowing how to get from point A to Z and how to get back to where they were previously. Website designers can prevent this problem by applying design guidelines and arranging web content information carefully to help users find their way. • 42. The Middle Of Moore 's Law According to Kuniavsky (2010), the "middle of Moore's" law has allowed for new technology to become much more powerful, while older technology gets cheaper without losing any power. Gordon Moore, founder of Intel Corporation, developed Moore's Law which states that every two years processors transistor densities will double. Moore stated in this in his 1965 analysis, that the pragmatic model of factors affecting profitability in semiconductor manufacturing. He concluded that by "1975 economics may dictate squeezing as many as 65,000 components on a single silicon chip" which provided the knowledge and ability to become a contender in the semiconductor market. His model was accepted by other companies in the industry. This law as soon put into use by his own co–founded company, Intel, which has continued to prosper based on his law of nature. This new strategic decision led the way for the beginning of ubiquitous computing. As the power of processors increased, the price of older technology decreased. As new CPs were developed, their market value would remain at an unchanging price while the processing power augmented. New systems are released with much more power at a faster rate as old systems are replaced. Older technologies become cheaper without losing any of its ability to process information. For example, in 1989, the Intel i486 averaged a cost of $1500 and was able to process 16 million instructions per seconds. In comparison, in 2010, the Atmel's ATTiny could do ... EMR interface design should make entry processes as natural as possible for users and avoid mismatches between EHR work flow and actual clinical processes. 2. Consistency – Consistency is an important usability principle that should be considered in interactive system interface design in order to reduce learnability and increase task efficiency. Basic colors and unified form layouts allow users to predict experiences once they learn the patterns of the system. Standards and conventions in product design should be followed. 3. Minimizing cognitive load – By facilitating efficient information navigation, EHR designers can reduce a user's mental workload and cognitive processing. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways. Use a design structure matrix that minimizes or eliminates the number of steps to complete a task. • 64. AIALS Case Study Designing for Success As early as the 1980s, AIALS were used as tools in the classroom, albeit on a much smaller scale. An artificially intelligent assessment learning systems that is designed for success, is "user–centered and addresses user–relevant issues at all stages in whatever form is appropriate" (Dillon, 1994, p. 19). This phenomena was supported by Hung et al. (2015) who indicated that a system that is well–designed should allow its users to navigate it easily, use its features and tools and respond appropriately to features of the systems. Hence, a well–designed AIALS is intentionally designed according to usability principles and with features and tools to yield learning gains for users. Generally, AIALS consists of four ... These dimensions are viewed as the fundamental user requirements for defining the functionalities of a good user interface, hence according to the ISO 9241–210 standard, usability is the measurement of how a product is used to accomplish specific tasks with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction within a prescribed setting (Kaasinen et al., 2015). According to Chughtai, Zhang, and Craig (2015) usability takes into account how easy it is to learn and use a system, including easy navigation for average users. Nielsen (1994) posited that usability is a significant factor of interface design in order to ensure a user–friendly system that is easy to use. Kodavali and Blessing (2011) suggested that usability is an important factor when designing intelligent learning systems, otherwise, the goal/s of the system may be defeated. Additionally, Lin, Wu, and Hsueh (2014) indicated that recent studies on usability testing of an AIALS revealed that there is a direct positive relationship between usability and learning effectiveness. The integration of usability principles in the design and development of AIALS is important. It involves a user–centered focus approach that is used to increase the overall effectiveness of learning systems (Hung et al., 2015); Sharp & Preece, 2011). User Experience (UX) The ISO 9241–210 defined user experience (UX) as "a person's perceptions and responses resulting from the use and/or anticipated use of a product, system or service". • 66. Personal Health Personal Statement In November 2015, my world was changed because my daughter was born. As a new mom, I had a hard time getting through baby blues due to sleep deprivation, breast engorgement, worrying about insufficient breastmilk and being a good mom. I felt isolated and lack of social support since I was the first one being a mom among my friends, as a racial minority in the U.S. and an international student. At the one–month checkup, I did a survey from the pediatrician about postpartum depression, and I got 7 points out of 10. I decided to go out and looked for new mom groups and talked to them; I realized that I was not alone. The experience inspired me to find solutions to benefit new moms and this community and to explore the role of technology in personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I worked as a user experience/ web designer intern for Illumina, a biotech company based in San Francisco Bay area. My daily work included user interview, finding the right problems, created a scenario, designed wireframes and flow, and developed prototypes rapidly. As a designer, I have to make decisions every day, with a reason. The rationale behind each design decision either comes from the interview data/ field notes while observing or from the design and behavior theories. I also did usability testing with users and based on the result; I modified the design, and finally, I developed a new intranet system in 3 months. Last month, I received an email from my supervisor at Illumina and was glad to know they are still using the website that I designed. Alongside the growing interest in HCI, I am more concerned about the wellness of people, particularly after becoming a mother. I care about the health of my family and other families like us, and the community. I was particularly interested in human/ computer interaction in the context of personal health, exploring how technology can support the upper–stream of health behaviors, including self–reflective methods. Also, I was keen on understanding user behavior, and learning how users interact with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. The Hunger Relief Organization At The Puyallup Food Bank Introduction According to Feeding America, a U.S. Hunger Relief Organization, over 50 million people suffer from hunger in America. Although a complex issue, nonprofit organizations such as food banks make tremendous contributions each year toward combating hunger. Unfortunately, the majority of food donated to the Puyallup Food Bank located in Puyallup, Washington is heavily processed. A heavily processed diet can lead to nutritional deficiencies in fiber, calcium, iron and vitamins. These nutrients are vital to human survival. Additionally, during non–holiday months, donations to the Puyallup Food Bank decrease considerably. To change this and help the food bank receive sufficient nutritional food donations year–round, team 6 decided to repurpose Sarah Pike's research project. Using Ms. Pike's research, we realized the Puyallup Food Bank had issues in communicating its needs effectively with the community. To assist in correcting this, we felt the design of a simple, visually interesting "call to action" pamphlet would be an appropriate tool. To accomplish the creation of this pamphlet, we broke the collaboration up into four tasks: Write a project justification statement Develop the pamphlet content through delegated research assignments Design the pamphlet Test the pamphlet effectiveness by obtaining feedback & finalizing the content Our overall goal in completing this project is to create an effective pamphlet that will educate the residents of Puyallup, ... • 72. The Aesthetic Role of Omnichannel This paper examines the role of aesthetics in omnichannel user experience by surveying existing research done in the fields of design, human–computer interaction (HCI), informatics, and cognitive psychology. Aesthetics are one of many important factors in HCI and research shows that aesthetics can significantly affect perception, cognition, and usability for computer systems, websites, and user interfaces. First, the paper identifies the components of aesthetics and their role in user experience and user interface (UX/UI) design, then examines relevant research in the domain, and finally looks at the implications of aesthetics in designing for the rapidly expanding world of experience design, referred to as the cross–channel, multi–modal, or omnichannel experience. Ultimately, this paper seeks to demonstrate how visual aesthetics can enhance or detract from brand perception, perceived or real system usability, cognitive load, and the overall user experience. Keywords: User Interface, Aesthetics, User Experience, Omnichannel The Role of Aesthetics in OmniChannel User Experience Design Aesthetics and their role in experience design have been thoroughly researched in the disciplines of human factors, cognitive psychology, informatics, and design. Numerous studies examined in this paper will demonstrate how aesthetics can dramatically affect user response to the perceived credibility and usability of products and systems (David, Glore, 2001). Essay On Reliability Of Visualization Tools 4.2 Reliability of visualization tools Human factors study to evaluate a new interactive data integration platform for pediatric intensive care called T3 that was conducted to identify interface usability issues, to measure ease of use, and to describe interface features that may enable or hinder clinical tasks [2 cite the reference not number]. The key finding highlighted the low level of reliability placed by clinicians on data representations since they did not know how they were established or derived. The study concluded that usability issues, observed through contextual use, could lead to improvements in design of data integration software. 4.3 Cognitive overload An area where there is a lack of understanding on patient safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bioinformatics involves complex data visualization techniques that are technologically advanced and therefore prone to cognitive overload. The study conducted to review current human factors research in interaction, usability and visualization within bioinformatics, concluded that human factors play a significant role in designing and evaluating information visualization tools. Perception of bioinformatics tools by users goes a long way in influencing their understanding of the complex data as well as the perceived usability and accessibility of these systems [3 cite the reference not number]. According to [10 cite the reference not number] cognitive overload has also been identified as an EMR usability problem in evaluations conducted as part of some other studies. For example, Rose et al. (2005) suggested that when the amount of information presented in an interface increases, user attention is divided, as in multiple–task performances, the probability of errors increases. Minimization of cognitive load has been highlighted in a literature review of usability and safety in the electronic medical records interface design. As per [1 cite the reference not number] cognitive overload was often associated with responses of confusion and uncertainty, especially when participants had multiple visual cues to focus on in the visual displays. Additionally [2 cite the reference not number] research has shown that poorly designed technologies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Difference Between Uxi And Ux Looking for a one–liner and easy to understand 'difference between UI and UX design'? Just so you know, you have stumbled upon just the right source. In a layman language, UX is the experience that a person has as they interact with your product and UI is basically the look and feel of the product. Ofcourse this is the simplest version of the UX and UI definition and is giving a very limited view of the subject. And obviously for a detailed version, one will have to dive in deep. Let's understand it in bits and pieces first. What is UX? The technical definition given by Don Norman and Jakob Nielsen says, "The first requirement for an exemplary user experience is to meet the exact needs of the customer, without fuss or bother. Next, comes simplicity and elegance that produce products that are a joy to own, a joy to use. True ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What's the difference between UI and UX? Go through the take of various influencers on the subject. 1. Ken Norton – Partner at Google Ventures, Ex–Product Manager at Google "Start with a problem we'd like to solve. UX design is focused on anything that affects the user's journey to solve that problem, positive or negative, both on–screen and off. UI design is focused on how the product's surfaces look and function. The user interface is the only piece of that journey. I like the restaurant analogy I've heard others use: UI is the table, chair, plate, glass, and utensils. UX is everything from the food, to the service, parking, lighting, and music." 2. Andy Budd – Co–founder of Clearleft, Founder of UX London "Common logic would suggest that, if you design the UI, and a person experiences a product through the UI, that makes you a User Experience Designer. However, this would also imply that designing your own home makes you an architect, and fixing a tap makes you a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
