Question 6- What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?
1. QUESTION 6
We used different technologies to create our media product. We also
used equipment such as cameras and tripods to help film the vital shots
we needed. We were very familiar with the equipment as we used it n
the prelim task which helped with timing and getting the right shots we
needed in creating our final product, ‘Untraceable Poisons’.
We used an establishing shot to introduce the setting then carried the
sweeping motion on with the panning of the equipment; this showed
the audience the beginning of the film to help understand the setting.
We did these with a camera on a tripod to create a steady clear focused
shot. Upon doing this we used our storyboard to help guide us for each
scene. Using the equipment was fairly easy, as we had used them
previously so we were very familiar on how to use them.
As well as the equipment we used
different technologies such as
Garage Band, Live Type and Final Cut
HD.
When using Live Type none of us had
used it before so it was quite
confusing at first. However once we
used it more and more we got the
hang of it. We changed the size,
tracking and leading then the effects
and style from a list it gave us to get
the right horror/thriller feel type
effect for our movie title. We then
could mess around with the
placement of the title but we chose
to keep it in the center to suit our film.
We also used Garage Band to help create our music. We used the effects
and loops that it
had within the
music creator at
first to get the
right tense creepy
2. sounds. We then went on the use loyalty free music that worked really
well in our media product. We
then used Tom to put a voice
over at the beginning, as he
was the main scientist to give
a diary effect of his life being
taken hostage in creating a
poison. Because of this we
changed the volume control
so you can hear him clearly.
Overall I think that using
Garage Band worked well and
it was easy to use, as I had
used it previously. Itcreated good music that went well for our media
product.
Lastly we used Final Cut HD to edit our clips. We used it before so we
were familiar with how to use it. We imported the clips we needed and
then edited them individually which took quite a bit of time then
dragging them into the timeline to place. Once we had all the clips
edited on the time line we started to insert fades and other transitions
to give the feel of time passing by and to lengthen our video only in
appropriate places such as the part where the scientist dies and the
other scientist comes in.After that we started to insert text to show the
cast members names and placed it at the bottom so it not over
powering the clips. Overall we feel as though it was easy to use after
using it time and time again to get the hang of how it works, the only
problem we really had was how to export it into a HD clip but after
searching and experimenting on the export settings we found out how.
3. Lastly the technology we used to create our
product logo, studio logo we used
Photoshop. At first to create this I created a
black background as it connoted fear and
darkness which links to the genre of our
film. Next we got a text font from
Dafont.com then changed the color to red,
which is also inked to horror/thriller films.
Finally the last bit in creating our logo we
got the image of the main logo then edited
it by using the tools within Photoshop. I
think that using Photoshop was really easy,
as I have used this many times before so I
knew what I was doing.
From using these technologies and
equipment we found out that using a
tripod was really important as it helps
get a steady clear shot which is
important to make it look
professional. Furthermore I also think
that editing is important too in having
a professional media product, which includes the music, vital edited
clips, images, texts and transitions.
