Depression And Bipolar Support Alliance
Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) is an independent support group that provide a
caring environment for people to come together to discuss their challenges and successes in living
with a mood disorder, or supporting a loved one with a mood disorder. It provides a forum for
mutual understanding, self–discovery, and finding a path to wellness with support from others who
have been there. It is a group provides support, outreach and advocacy for people living with mood
disorders across the country. It educates its member about the nature of mood disorders as treatable
medical illnesses and improving access to mental health services and increasing awareness about
mental health issue.
The demographics of the DBSA group are a dynamic one in which comprises of people from all
works of life, race, age and sex. The support group was made up 19 members in attendance on this
night. Eight of the nineteen members were male and the reminder is female. The group is comprised
of mostly Caucasians, 2 African Americans and an Asian lady. This is excluding the support group
team leaders that are three in attendances and myself. I was in attendance about twenty minutes
before the meeting commenced for an introduction with the team leader. He gave a brief
introduction of the support group and ascertains my role in the meeting; which is to listen, no name
or any identifying information was allowed and he will be introducing me to the members of the
group. The meeting began at about

disorders that falls under the umbrella of PPD which makes it vital to decipher between them. 1.
Baby Blues, the most common and mildest form of mood disorder can last up to two weeks after
having a baby without the mother needing treatment. a. Its very name describes what it entails:
crying, anxiety, and sadness. b. Davidson stated in her 2012 book A Nurse's Guide to Women's
Mental Health that "It is estimated that 50–80 percent of women suffers from some form of baby
blues after birth". (pg.175) 2. Postpartum Depression is more intense and last longer than Baby
Blues. It takes effect a few weeks to a year after a child is born. 3. Postpartum Psychosis is a rare but
the most severe form of postpartum depression. a. It can begin at any time during the first year after
having a newborn and due to its severity and length it must be diagnosed and treated as soon as
possible. b. This form involves a mother having hallucinations and delusions. Transition (Now that I

Bipolar And Its Effects On The Individual
Have you ever spent a lot of time around or just know of someone who has been diagnosed as
bipolar? Or somebody who doesn't act like they are all there? Bipolar is genetics wise, you can get it
through DNA. It has many effects not only through the individual themselves but also family,
friends, jobs, education. People who are diagnosed with this disorder have many amazing support
systems behind them. There are medications, groups, therapy and friends and family who will
always be there for them. The individual being diagnosed with bipolar don't see exactly what others
see, with being bipolar it causes conflict in the family with that being said on daily basis fighting,
yelling, reckless behavior occurs. Bipolar has many internal effects on ... Show more content on

Children who are at the age of ten now have a fear of not being good enough to step up in a family.
When somebody leaves a family due to the lack of parenting because the bipolar is taking control of
them children are now having to take over the role of the parenting jobs because who else will be
there for them? Children learn from children; it is so unlikely for a child to learn from a parent being
diagnosed with bipolar. With all the fighting going on, it will build up stress upon everybody else,
having stress in a house will only make thing ten times worse because with everybody being
stressed out, they will get annoyed faster, don't have the patience, and just do what they feel like
doing just so they can get the stress off them and take it onto somebody else and that will cause
more fighting, arguing, and yelling and where does that get you? Absolutely nowhere but back to
where it all started. Mood swings are also a big part of the disorder; you think everybody has mood
swings? Well we all do but with being diagnosed with bipolar it affects them more serious than other
individuals who are not diagnosed with

Temperament Characteristics Of Child Development
Temperament is defined as the individual behavioral style of the child, the way in which he
characteristically reacts to environmental stimuli. Temperament is distinct from the child's innate
abilities and motivation. Their are nine temperament traits; activity being the first which is based on
the level of motor component in a child's functioning, rated as regular, variable, or irregular. I would
rate myself as moderate. I prefer to be independent; I rather do a task myself so that I don't have to
watch someone else do it. I also don't like to be confined I prefer to explore the areas and things that
surround me. Rhythmicity being the second temperament trait is all about the regularity or
predictability in the timing of recurrent activities, rated as regular, variable, or irregular. Regular best
describes me because I stick to a routine everyday and if it is changed I have a very hard time
dealing with it. I eat the same thing everyday and at the same time everyday. I wake up every
morning at the same time, but I fall asleep at different times depending on what I did that day. And
lastly I have a difficult time adjusting to different time zones whenever I go away on vacation. The
Approach/Withdrawal is the third temperament it is about the nature of a child's response to a new
stimulus, rated as approach, variable, or withdrawal. Withdrawing child best fits me; it takes me
awhile to warm up to new things, I'm cautious with new people, things and places. I prefer to

Soil Stabilization : Soil Adjustment
Soil Stabilization
Soil adjustment a general term for any physical, substance, organic, or joined strategy for changing a
characteristic soil to meet a designing purpose.[1] Improvements incorporate expanding the weight
bearing capacities and execution of in–situ subsoils, sands, and other waste materials with a specific
end goal to reinforce street surfaces.
General information[edit]
The prime goal of soil adjustment is to enhance the California Bearing Ratio of in–situ soils by 4 to
6 times. The other prime goal of soil adjustment is to enhance site materials to make a strong and
solid sub–base and base courses. In specific districts of the world, normally creating nations and
now all the more much of the time in created nations, soil adjustment is being utilized to develop the
whole street.
Before, soil adjustment was finished by using the coupling properties of mud soils, concrete based
items, for example, soil bond, and/or using the "slammed earth" strategy (compaction) and lime.
A percentage of the 'green advancements ' are: proteins, surfactants, biopolymers, engineered
polymers, co–polymer based items, cross–connecting styrene acrylic polymers, tree pitches, ionic
stabilizers, fiber fortification, calcium chloride, calcite, sodium chloride, magnesium chloride and
that 's only the tip of the iceberg. Some of these new balancing out systems make hydrophobic
surfaces and mass that keep keeps street disappointment from water entrance or overwhelming ices

Suicide Prevention For The Kern County Mental Health Hotline
My family and friends don't quite understand my motivations to become a mental health counselor.
Personally, I can think of nothing more rewarding than helping people through dark times and
giving hope for a brighter future. Deep down, I'm an idealist with enough life experience to pepper
my expectations. There are countless possible research topics within the mental health field, but I've
recently developed a deep appreciation of suicide prevention since volunteering for the Kern County
Mental Health Hotline. I've also become acutely aware of the relationship between suicide and
mood disorders, such as depression and bipolar disorder. According to the CDC, suicide is the
second leading cause of death for people aged 15 – 34 years old, and the 10th leading cause of death
overall. An estimated 90% of those who have died by suicide suffered from mental illness. That
makes mental illness the top risk factor (NAMI, 2016). I was able to find these statistics quite
readily, but I couldn't find anything relating specifically to mood disorders. Since I am not sure of
what type of research already exists on the subject matter, a literature review would be the perfect
place to start. Not only would a review help verify that this is direction of research has potential, it
would help to develop my understanding of the topic. If I do find that work has been done on the
topic, I could narrow my scope to focus on points not previously covered. If I review the preexisting

Bipolar Executive Regulation
According to Michaela L. Zajicek–Farber, Lynn M. Mayer, and Laura G. Daughtery, in their
publication: Connections Among Parental Mental Health, Stress, Child Routines, and Early
Emotional Behavioral Regulation of Preschool Children in Low–Income Families, parents and their
children must seek these types of methods that can allow the improvement of their executive
control. (Zajicek–Farber, Mayer, Daughtery 2012, p.33). They also state that augmenting parental
devotion in their child's routines is theorized as being an important factor for improving the effects
that maternal depression often employs on young children's development (Zajicek–Farber et al.,
2012, p.31). In order words, the best approach for the improvement of the executive control ... Show

attention in similar ways, it is healthier to seek therapy that are concentrated in areas that would help
improve the patient's emotions, and better yet, to find a method that will lead to better control of the
person's feelings and sensations. It is also important for anyone dealing with a mental disorder, that
the best therapy in the long run would be a therapy approach that centralizes in treating all aspects of
the illness. For example, a person who is taking medication and at the same time is taking cognitive

The Case / History : Helen Stonewall
Identify your client & give a brief synopsis of the case/history: Helen Stonewall is a married 32–
year–old African American female. Helen was brought into see me because she had to be removed
from the middle of the street by the police where she was dancing in the half naked at 2am without
having any sense of danger. Just before that she was removed from a bar where she was dancing on
the table and ignoring the bartenders request to get down. Helen had consumed only two drinks
before these acts were committed her medical evaluation concludes that there was no excessive use
of drugs. She said, "that she was high on life".
Identify client strengths & sources of support: Although Helen did some very disruptive acts she
does have good sense of acceptance. Helen knew that she was feeling a certain way so she was
responsible enough to find a baby sitter for her child instead of acting the way she did with her
child. Another strength that she has is the ability to acknowledge that she has a problem. Regardless
of how she was referred to a therapist the first time she did seek treatment, which shows that she is
willing to learn. Her sister and her daughter Sonya and her husband support her.
Identify any medical issues associated with the client: Helen has reported that she has mood swing
and that she has suicidal ideation as well having feeling uncontrollable over her own body. She
denies and audio or visual hallucinations. Helen is showing signs of bipolar disorder DSM 296.62.

Essay on bipolar disorder
Bipolar Disorder also known as Manic Depressive Illness involves outstanding mood swings. The
individual has periods of depression, and periods when they feel either unusually good or pressured
and irritable. It affects 1–2% of the population. Genetics plays a significant role. About 15% of
children with one bipolar parent develop the disorder.
Treatments include medication, supportive psychotherapy and occasionally ECT. Medications
include lithium, anticonvulsant drugs (carbamazepine (Tegretol), valproate (Depakote), gabapentin
(Neurontin) and lamotrigine Lamictal), antidepressants (such as bupropion (Wellbutrin)or sertraline
(Zoloft)), neuroleptics (e.g. haloperidol) and benzodiazepines (e.g. lorazepam) Treatment choices

It is most often used when medication doesn't work or is unsafe.
Lithium is a top choice for acute mania and for maintenance in 'classic' bipolar disorder. Because of
its narrow therapeutic range, blood levels must be monitored; also heart and kidney function (EKG,
blood and urine tests). Medications such as diuretics, that block its excretion require caution.
Anticonvulsants have an edge with rapid–cycling and mixed mood states (e.g. depression with
racing thoughts). Except for gabapentin (Neurontin) and lamotrigine (Lamictal), they require blood
tests. Carbamazepine (Tegretol) is monitored with blood levels; also CBC, platelets and liver
function tests. Valproate (Depakote) requires CBC, platelet count and liver function tests; blood
levels may be helpful. Lamotrigine (Lamictal) requires caution because of its association with a rare
but dangerous skin rash (exfoliative dermatitis); risk can be minimized by starting with low doses
and increasing gradually. Use lower doses with medications that slow lamotrigine metabolism (e.g.
valproate). Gabapentin is generally safe and does not require blood tests.
It is not unusual for patients to need more than one mood stabilizing medication for best results.
Because bipolar disorders are generally recurrent, maintenance treatment is usually needed. This is
especially true when there have been multiple episodes, a clear family history of bipolar disorder or
symptom onset before age 18. Effective maintenance

The Genetic Disorder Or Autoimmune Disease
A.Who first discovered the genetic disorder or autoimmune disease? Kraepelin recognized
biological causes of mental illnesses. He is believed to be the first person to seriously study mental
illnesses. Kraepelin 's Manic Depressive Insanity and Paranoia in 1921 detailed the difference
between manic–depressive and praecox, which is now known as schizophrenia.
B. Is the disease state recessive or dominant? One study has also found a higher frequency in
families where the disorder is inherited from mothers. A particular case inquiry may be considered,
assuming that bipolar affective disorder can be inherited as a sex–linked recessive trait or as an
autosomal recessive trait.
C. Differentiate between recessive or dominant? The difference between the two is that it depends
on the parents in which one or the both have the gene that is dominant but in which chase if it is
recessive it would not get passed down.
D. Is it a chromosomal abnormality? Although there is compelling evidence from twin, family, and
adoption studies to support strong genetic determinants for bipolar affective disorder, the underlying
molecular–genetic basis for this condition remains poorly understood. The identification of the
genes responsible for major psychiatric illnesses such as bipolar disorder would greatly enhance our
understanding of etiology, as well as open new avenues for the development of more specific and
effective treatments.
E. Is it autosomal or sex linked? A particular case inquiry may be

Examples Of Season Ending Injuries
Season ending injuries: Psychosocial aspect of rehabilitation within the athlete
In all levels of sport, involvement there is a high incidence of injuries that are bound to occur. These
injuries can range in severity, from simple cuts and bruises to season or even career ending injuries.
In many cases, the injured athlete is initially assessed and diagnosed with whatever ailment they
may have. Next, the athlete is treated for that injury whether it be surgery, physical therapy, or both
and then is given time to physically recover from that injury. This execution of treatment is known
as the biomedical model, which the majority of physicians in today's practice use. This plan seems
to be universal and effective in many cases. What many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree with this form of post injury goal setting program. I believe that if we as a consultant can
keep the athlete striving for his or her own goals they can still feed the competitive drive that
remains within the athlete. By continuing to set goals for the athlete we need to keep in mind that
these goals need to be task oriented and not ego oriented. In other words, these goals set forth by the
athlete and his physical therapist or consultant need to be concerned with the development of
competence within the rehabilitation of the athlete. Doing so will promote self–efficacy through the
value and commitment of the rehabilitation. What we should try to avoid, is setting ego–based goals
where the athlete is compared to previous or current athletes with the same injury. This only lowers
self–confidence and increases the already high anxiety levels within the injured athlete.
In the second journal by (Rapp, 2006) the researcher conducted a test by which, "Individual
responses of injured athletes varied from those who took injury in stride to those who required
psychiatric intervention." Rapp (p. 9) This seemed to significantly designate the further examination
of the importance of not simply "Assuming mood disturbances nor overlooking a serious emotional
response in the injured athlete." Rapp (pg.13) Therefore, the athlete can be diagnosed in a clinical
sense with the appropriate testing to confirm or rule out the need for psychiatric help at the time

Treatment Of Treatment For Bipolar Disorder
Treatment
Treatment for bipolar disorder has to this day been approach using the biomedical model approach.
Which means that BP disorder has been predominantly treated pharmacologically. Pharmacological
treatment of BP disorder is not to be underestimated, but it is also not to be considered the first and
last option of treatment. Research has shown that the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (along with
various other treatments) combined with pharmacological treatment has been shown to have better
efficacy than each of these approaches separately (Singleton, 2006). However, it has been seen as a
long time technique to use medication as a validator of the diagnosis. This techniques seems
appropriate considering how hard it is to diagnose BP ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately the neurobiology in relation to lithium treatment is not well understood and most of
the research on it is primarily speculative and theoretical, and in–turn does not offer much insight.
Although, the great efficacy of this treatment does not come without a price, lithium has a very thin
line between therapeutic effect and toxicity. Blood levels must be check regularly to make sure that
the lithium is within therapeutic levels to avoid lithium poisoning (Jann M. W., 2014). The next
pharmacological treatment that will be discussed is probably the most controversial treatment for BP
disorder, and that is antidepressants. Antidepressant are not a FDA–accepted treatment for BP
disorder and the efficacy of this treatment is questionable. Antidepressant may be used on patients
with BP disorder, it is not advised to use them on patients with a history of rapid cycling (of
symptoms). There seems to be a consensus in the research that antidepressants should never be used
to treat BP disorder alone. Antidepressants should be used with antipsychotic or mood stabilizers in
order to protect the patient from potential pharmacologically induced episode of mania that could be
a danger to the patient.
Brief Overview of Psychotherapy People with BP disorder usually end up in therapy by one of
multiple way, either the subject is in a depressive phase and recognizes that they need help. The
subject is in a manic phase and is admitted against their own will

Bipolar Disorder (BP)
Bipolar disorder (BP) is a mood disorder that is considered to affect the emotional regulation of
individuals who have it (Blaney, Krueger, & Millon, 2015, p.234). Bipolar disorder is also believed
to compromise the executive functioning, attention, planning, and regulation for the individuals who
have it (Blaney, Krueger, and Millon, 2015, pp.234–235). As a consequence, BP may cause serious
adverse consequences to the individuals who have it. According to Singh and Muhammad (2006),
bipolar disorder is often unrecognized or misdiagnosed when patients are initially seen when
seeking treatment for mood symptoms. Furthermore, unrecognized or misdiagnosis of BP may lead
to ineffective treatment and increased risk of mood episodes (Consequences ... Show more content

Cerimele, Chwastiak, Chan, Harrison, & Unützer (2013), state "Historical examination and other
factors can be helpful in differentiating bipolar disorder from other mood disorders" (p.1649).
According to Cerimele et al. (2013), a personal history of hypersomnia episodes, psychotic features,
mood lability, and subsyndromal mania, among other factors occurred more often in patients with
BP (p. 1649). In addition, Acikel, Son, & Tutuncu (2015), have another reason for conducting a
historical examination. Acikel, Son, & Tutuncu (2015), suggest that BP is up to 70% heritable
(p.13). This heritability infers that if one family member has BP, the possibility of another family
member having it increases. Therefore, a thorough personal examination, in conjunction with a
familial history assessment, may increase the probability of receiving an earlier diagnosis of BP, and
conceivably increase the likelihood of earlier interventions, management, and treatment plans for

Literature Review Of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome ( SJS )
Bipolar disorder is a complex mental health disorder that is characterized by recurrent episodes of
elevated or irritable mood with variable states of depression (American Psychiatric Association,
2013). Patients suffering from bipolar disorder not taking any maintenance medications have been
shown to have relapse rates of approximately 61%, leading to significant impairments in functioning
and quality of life (Goodwin et al., 2004). Anticonvulsants used as mood stabilizers have become
the main therapy for preventing relapse of mood episodes (Stahl, 2013). A major concern that has
risen from the use of anticonvulsants as mood stabilizers is the propensity to develop a major
dermatologic emergency: Stevens–Johnson syndrome (SJS). A seven–year study completed by Devi
et al. (2005) concluded that anticonvulsants were the cause implicated most in SJS, especially in the
first eight weeks of treatment, and the main drug responsible (more than 80%) was carbamazepine.
Providers involved in the initial and maintenance prescription of anticonvulsants as mood
stabilizers, or for any other designated use, should be knowledgeable of the risk for SJS associated
with these medications, and the benefit of using these medications as indicated. Literature Review

job for assaulting his wife's lover, is sent to a mental institution. After completing his court ordered
minimum stay of eight months, against medical advice, his mother discharges him. The conditions
of his release require him to reside with his parents in their home in Philadelphia as well as attend
mandatory therapy sessions. Upon returning home Pat learns that his father, who is obsessed with
the Philadelphia Eagles, has lost his job and has resorted to becoming a bookie to make money.
Through one of Pat's therapy sessions we learn that during the eight months he was in the mental
institution he was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. Although Pat has been prescribed medication to
help with the treatment of his disorder, he refuses to take it because of the way the medication
makes him feel. Pat feels that he can manage on his own through healthy living and looking for the

The Economic Background Of A Student
Economics:
The economic background of a student has an impact on where he or she decides to live after
school. Even if a student does not move out after high school, there is a chance that they will move
out of a parent's house after college. Research shows that 85% of students returned home after
college especially during the time of recession back in 2011. This information is from Boomerang
kids: 85% of college grads move home by Jessica Dickler, who is a staff writer for CNNMoney.
Today a college graduate has really slim chances of finding a job as soon as graduating from
college. College Graduates Tackle Depressed Job Market by David Faulk stated, "when the
economy is poor, the trend would be to try to stay near one's support system, students already have
their friends and family to rely on, and moving is expensive," Faulk states. This shows that when
times are tough it is easier to rely on your family and loved ones to help support you which is why
students move back home after graduation.
In the Opinion article, Growing Up, Then Going Home, The New York Times revolves around
various college graduates stories about moving back home after graduating. All the stories revolve
around the same concept, how one feels after being independent in college but moving back in with
your parents after graduating. All had the same feeling, as if they were a burden to their parents and
questioned if their parents even wanted them there. One writer, Rachel, writes "At 22, being taken

Analysis Of The Movie Mommie Dearest
Psychological disorders are very real and present in many people we come in contact with daily,
however, are very rarely talked about. Learning about these disorders can help us to understand
others and ourselves better by telling us why we do and think the things we do. One effective way
that we can observe and learn about psychological disorders is through movies. "Mommie Dearest"
was directed by Frank Perry. It is centered around the actress Joan Crawford, who suffered from
various psychological disorders. Joan's daughter, Christina, wrote a book about her mother and her
many problems and it was later turned into a movie. It is very effective to use movie analysis as a
way of learning, especially in psychology, because it provides a great way to observe without
distractions. When you're looking at disorders, it's difficult to find a person who has many of these
disorders and will allow you to observe them. Psychological disorders can be split into two major
groups, personality disorders and mood disorders. Personality disorders are patterns of traits that can
get in the way of your social or work life and may interrupt the individual's normal lifestyle. Mood
disorders are inconsistent and unreliable changes in mood by the affected individual. (Rathus, 1998).
With all of this being said, it brings me to my point that I will be talking about for the rest of this
essay. Joan Crawford demonstrates the personality disorders of histrionic, narcissism, and OCPD.
When it comes to mood disorders, Joan demonstrates bipolar disorder. First, I will be talking about
histrionic. People who are histrionic are often very emotional and seek constant attention.
(Psychology Today, 2017). The cause of this is unknown but some saw it may have something to do
with childhood events and/or genetics. Symptoms of this are seeking reassurance constantly, being
self–centered, being very concerned with physical appearance, and having your opinions be easily
influenced by other people. There are many times in the movie where Joan Crawford showed signs
of histrionic. The first example I will be sharing is at Christina's birthday party. (Mommie Dearest,
1981). It appeared to me that Joan adopted children just for the attention of it.

Silver Lining Playbook begins with main character Pat Solatano, a charming, middle age man who
suffers from bipolar disorder. In the beginning of the movie we see Pat going about his day, with no

episode that left other people hurt emotionally and physically, and resulted in his separation from his
wife At the very beginning of the movie we see Pat standing in his room reciting a speech to his ex
wife, Nikki. He seems obsessed with the idea of winning her back no matter what anyone says to
him. Pat's mother soon comes to get him out of the hospital and take him back to live with her and
Pat's father. He lies to his mother about a friend of his being discharged and in some serious high
speed maneuvering they manage to turn the car around and take his friend back to the hospital.

I did feel like Pat had a lot more manic moments than depressive moments, he always seemed to
have very heightened emotions, but its possible it was simply harder to notice in the movie. Its also
a movie, which means the exciting bits need to be in it and not so much the slow parts. This could
give people the idea that those suffering from bipolar are always throwing stuff or tearing their
house apart, but I personally didn't get that vide from the movie. I think there are instances where
you could say that when Tiffany and Pat get together their symptoms sort of fall by the wayside,
seemingly no problem once they find each other. This could potentially give the idea that someone
else can fix you or make you feel better, which could be a harmful thing to believe. However,
Tiffany and Pat get to be real with each other, and feeling understood can help with daily
functioning even if the bipolar is still there. Did the movie portray treatment of the disorder? Was
the treatment successful? Was the treatment

My First Semester At Governors State University
My Personal Growth Plan This is my last semester at Governors State University. There were only
two classes that were part of my study plan that I needed for this semester, and I created a schedule
with four weekend classes so that I could be full time. Instead of taking classes that would just look
good on my resume, I decided to take classes that would help to benefit me the most and ensure my
future success as a holistic human being. Other students had spoken about the Lab in Personal
Growth briefly, and every person shared the same sentiment. They each stated that this was an
emotional and eye opening experience that involved a great deal of emotional insight. Outside of
that, I was unaware of what I was in for, but I was excited for whatever challenge was ahead.
Coming into the class I was interested in learning more about how the class was going to be
structured. Even while reading the book and doing the assignments I did not think much of what we
were going to do. Once the schedule was passed out I was excited, but a little nervous. Meditation
was a bigger part of my life during my teenage years, and yoga was something that was enjoyable,
but not something I actively participated in because I have never heard of a yoga studio that worked
with individuals with different abilities. Mindfulness was a word that I had heard, but only
associated it with a previous Professor that I took during my associates. Unfortunately, there were

Effects of Exercise on Anxiety and Depression Essays
Critically Analyse the Research Findings on the Acute and Chronic Effects of Exercise on Anxiety
and Depression
It has long been speculated that there is a relationship between exercise and it effects on anxiety and
depression. However, it is not until recently that research has shown that exercise is associated with
positive changes in mood and reductions in anxiety and depression. According to the Mental Health
Victoria, depression is characterised by prolonged feelings of sadness, dejection and hopelessness
and will affect one in four women and one in six men at some point in their lives. In the United
States, anxiety disorders and depression are the most common mental health disorders costing the

approximately 2–4 months consisting of two to four sessions per week. Most research on effects of
acute exercise has focused on the reduction of state anxiety. Recent studies, (Focht & Hausenblas,
2001; Ekkekakis, Hall & Petruzzello, 1999) showed that aerobic exercise resulted in lowered state
anxiety and higher tranquility scores. In addition to this, other research has revealed that moderate–
intensity exercise produced the greatest positive effects in affective responses implying that the
anxiety reduction following exercise occurs regardless of the intensity, duration or type of exercise
(Berger, Pargman & Weinberg, 2002, pp. 399–401). Raglin and Morgan (1987) found that state
anxiety was reduced for 24 hours after the exercise bout, whereas participants in a control rest
condition returned to baseline levels within 30 minutes (Berger, Pargman & Weinberg, 2002, pp.
400). Although acute exercise is no more effective in decreasing state anxiety than quiet rest of
distraction, the effects last longer. According to Breus and O'Connor (1998), the decrease in state
anxiety after exercise lasted several hours, which was more than in the distraction and quiet rest
groups. This implies that positive effects may be gained after a few weeks of training, but enduring
effects may only be achieved through continuous exercise.

According to APA, 2013 Bipolar disorder is a serious mental illness in which common emotions
become intensely and often unpredictably magnified. Individuals with bipolar disorder can quickly
swing from extremes of happiness, energy and clarity to sadness, fatigue and confusion. Helen
stated that sometimes when she is on certain mood she can stay up all night, don't eat or drink and
then after a couple of weeks she crashes. No further medical issues noted.
Identify environmental & cultural factors that may be associated with client 's current state: Helen
was previously at a bar. Which means that at most bars dancing and drinking is tolerated. So she was
at the correct place to engage in those activity's. It wasn't until she stood on the table and started
talking loudly before she was escorted out of the bar. She then commuted to the street from the bar
to continue dancing, but she did this in the middle of the street. Helen was in the correct atmosphere
to engage in the activities she did at first, she just had a hard time knowing when enough was
enough. Similar to being over confident, which was a contributing factor to her arrest. The
gentlemen that she was with could have played a role in the environment factor because they could
have encouraged her to behave in a disruptive matter.

Hong Kong, By Wong Kar Wai
Hong Kong occupies a unique place in history; it exists as a city with an expiration date. In his
films, Wong Kar–wai is known for exploring the idea of deja desparu–the already disappeared. In
the Mood for Love was his first film following the 1997 transition, when the city changed from
being a colony of Great Britain to the Special Administrative Region of China. The film explores the
post–1997 mood and experiences a true sense of nostalgia, not for the past, but for that which could
have been. The film follows Mrs. Chan and Mr. Chow as they come to realize that their spouses are
having an affair. In an attempt to process, the two attempt to act out how they imagine the affair
must have unfolded. Although feelings start to develop between the two of them, they keep their
relationship platonic–not wanting to stoop to the level of their cheating spouses. Additionally, they
must navigate their neighbors prying and judgmental eyes. The film, hauntingly beautiful as it is, is
an allegory for Hong Kong's "national" history and its relationship with Britain and China–in an
attempt to answer the question what will happen to Hong Kong come 2047. Different characters in
the film represent different countries as the film follows Mrs. Chan and Mr. Chow–who together
represent Hong Kong–attempt to navigate the complex world and figure out where they belong.

Living with Depression, Mania, and Medication Essay
Living with Depression, Mania, and Medication
Depression joined my life shortly after I entered middle school and tagged on persistently through
my adolescent years. At first, my sullen moods were brushed off as mere hormonal changes, but I
quickly became aware there was something more behind them. The severity of depression is
difficult to explain without personal thoughts and examples. I know that my depression is coming
long before it sets in. There is a cloud of forewarning that starts to move in on the vibrancy of my
thoughts and vision; the world becomes distorted and negative. Slowly, this bleakness moves in
from the outside world down to the pit of my stomach where it creates a dark, menacing feeling that
makes me want to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cloud of depression lifts, and the colors and elements of life appear optimistic and bright. The
community becomes full of opportunities for change and involvement. I become extremely
enthusiastic and join whatever organization serves my current purposes, and, often times, I join
several at once. The beginning of mania is fun and full of energy; it is what I would imagine it is
like to be completely content. However, this "contentment" turns out to be nothing more than a
façade and fades as quickly as it appears. After days, weeks, or sometimes months, my mania begins
to come to its peak. I start to feel as if I could take on impossible challenges and will do anything in
my power to keep from admitting defeat. Sleep becomes an option that I do not wish to take on for
more than a couple hours a night. In mania, people cannot spit out ideas fast enough, books do not
read quick enough, and my attention span cannot focus long enough. My thoughts do not occur
independently; instead, my mind will focus on four or five things at once. Life becomes hectic and
confusing; I feel as if I am on a roller coaster that no one is driving. I become convinced that I am
crazy. When it comes to this, I want to escape from life because I cannot keep up, and I cannot
escape from this fast pace. It is in this blind panic that my mania reaches its climax. I have my worst
anxiety attacks. In these attacks, I become irritated and angry with the world for alienating me in

How Does Emotions Impact Our Motivation?
The question that arises when someone ask," How does our emotions impact our motivation?" A
human being emotions impact everything we do, whether it 's making our bed or just affecting our
health. Motivation is a state or condition of being motivated or having a strong reason to act or
accomplish something. When people have motivation it can be positive or negative. Before we can
experience motivation our emotions plays an enormous role in the things we do. The word Emotions
refers to the conscious in which the mind can produce feelings. For example joy, sadness, hate, fear
and etc. is emotions that human beings encounter on a daily basis. When I did research on Emotion
our emotions can be shown in our facial expressions or. Hand gestures too." Also, emotions is

common. They both rely on each other. But sometimes they rely on each too much can cause
negative impact on society such murder, rape, suicide and many more. Our emotions can lead our
body into doing stressful things. Sometimes people get stress out from work and from the issues

What Are Bipolar Disorder?
The apparent increase in the number of children in today's society that are diagnosed with mental
illness, especially that of bipolar disorder, does not seem to come as much of a surprise to anyone.
Yet, why is this? Is the recent over–diagnosis due in part to fault within the definition of what
pediatric bipolar disorder actually is? Many believe this to be the case; while others support the
notion that bipolar disorder is not over diagnosed and the recent prevalence of the disorder is the
result of increased awareness on the part of health professionals along with an increase in the
number of children who are more readily succumbing to such a disorder. To admit to an over
diagnosis should not be seen as a denial of the disease itself, but rather, the different clinical
presentations of the disorder should be seen as an inconsistency among practitioners. This
discrepancy results in the acknowledgment of more cases than actually exists; an admission of this
over–diagnosis would be seen merely as a flaw within the ability of practitioners to reach a
consensus. Such a flaw manifests itself in the over diagnosis of the disorder, which is something
that, for the sake of the client as well as the field as a whole, should not be overlooked.
It is common for people to fear that of which they do not know; unfortunately, problems arise when
this universal lack of knowledge manifests itself in the uncertainty surrounding children who need
appropriate direction. Bipolar disorder can

Informative Essay Several people mix and confuse some of the causes and symptoms of Bipolar
disorder and Dissociative Identity disorder. While both disorders do share certain symptoms, the
differences could not be more prominent. Both disorders have similar causes, symptoms and
treatment options. There are cases where the disorders have taken over, or they have become a part
of people's everyday lives. Although you might want to feel sympathy for those who have been
diagnosed, many of the people lead perfectly happy and normal lives. Bipolar disorder and D.I.D.
have alike causes, but there are noticeable differences as well. For example, there are no real
singular cause for either of them. Some cases of both disorders have reported that traumatic events
can lead to these disorders. However, it is more common for those who are affected by the manic–
depressive illness to receive the disorder through family genes. Unlike those who are bipolar, it is
much more common to have dissociative identity among those who were physically or sexually
abused as a child or young age. Contrary to belief D.I.D. is actually quite rare. There only about
200,000 U.S. cases per year. That is only about 1%–3% of America's population. Which in contrast
to bipolar disorder, which has about 3,000,000 million U.S. cases per year, D.I.D is much less
common. Symptoms for the two are more alike than you may have

Bipolar Disorder Analysis
As human beings we all have been exposed to emotional extremes. Some are worse than others.
These emotional extremes are categorized into mood disorders. There are two different types of
mood disorders, major depression disorder, and bipolar disorder. Major depressive disorder is a
persistent state of hopeless depression (Myers 390). Bipolar disorder is an alternative between
depression and overexcited hyperactivity (Myers 390). Providing more information and detail will
give a better understanding of major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and understanding mood
disorders. Major depressive disorder is a persistent state of hopeless depression (Myers 390). Major

Bipolar disorder is also known as manic–depressive illness. Manic–depressive illness is a brain
disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the inability to carry out
day–to–day tasks (Bipolar Disorder). Bipolar disorder is categorized with depression. When a
depression episode ends, a happy, energetic, stated called mania follows (Myers 391). But not long
after that do the depressed feelings return. There is not necessarily a cause for bipolar disorder, more
like things are linked together to cause the illness. Research has also been done and discovered that
bipolar disorder is sometimes passed through genetics (Bipolar Disorder). "Some imaging studies
show how the brains of people with bipolar disorder may differ from the brains of healthy people or
people with other mental disorders (Bipolar Disorder)." A MRI study found that the brain's
prefrontal cortex in adults with bipolar disorder tends to be smaller, function less well compared to
adults who don't have bipolar disorder (Bipolar Disorder). The symptoms found in bipolar disorder
are sometimes mood disorders, which links back to depression. Feelings that are associated with
bipolar disorder are always opposite of one another. Symptoms may also include change of habits.

Symptoms And Changes Of Depression
Depression is a mood disorder characterized by pervasive sadness and psychophysiological changes
like changes in sleep patterns, sexual desires, loss of pleasure in previously enjoyed things, and even
suicidal thoughts (Belmaker & Agam, 2008, p. 55). Its rise in prevalence in Western society means
that students with depression or depressive symptoms are more common in our schools. The
students experience difficulty in motivation and self–esteem, and depression is often comorbid with
disorders like ADHD, anxiety, and learning disabilities. This means that students need additional
support in classrooms, and depression is very treatable with cognitive behavioral therapies.
Body
Increasing awareness of mental disorders like anxiety, ADHD, depression, OCD, eating disorders,
and PTSD, has increased public dialog about these disorders. Currently the World Health
Organization estimates that by 2020 depression will be the 2nd highest cause of morbidity, poor
health or diseased state, worldwide (Popa, 2012, p. 414). In this paper, I will discuss the history of
depression, its presence in classrooms, and how schools and teachers can support the well–being and
success of their depressed students.
One of the biggest shifts in recognizing mental disorders like depression as real and dangerous
disorders was the suicide of Robin Williams, who struggled with severe depression and anxiety

The Role Of Family And Caretakers Relationships
Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder that often leads to a disruptive lifestyle. It is a subgroup of
bipolar I which is manic and depressive episodes and bipolar II which is hypomanic and depressive
episodes. However, very little research has been done in terms of how this disorder impacts family
members and caretakers. The rationale behind this topic is to examine some of the research done
involving strengths and struggles of family and caretakers relationships. The articles that will be
discussed include: Family Functioning in the Context of Parental Bipolar Disorder: Association with
Offspring Age, Sex, and Psychopathology, Relatives' Emotional Involvement Moderates the Effects
of Family Therapy for Bipolar, and In sickness and in health: The experiences of friends and
relatives caring for people with manic depression.
While reading these articles I noticed many of them had similar themes. One of the common themes
throughout these articles is the need to continuously do more research and provide more resources
for the caretakers. Another recurring topic in the articles was the importance family relationships
have on the individual with bipolar disorder and their outcomes with treatment, along with how
these interactions affect the other members of the family. A strength that was present in each article
was the depth of detail presented in each study; this description will make it easier to replicate the
studies. These commonalities throughout the articles may be

Depressive disorders and major depressive disorder differ in severity and length of symptoms.
Minor depression is defined by a period of at least two weeks of depression. Minor depressive

left untreated.
Other forms of depression exist as well. Psychotic depression occurs when psychosis, a complete
break from reality, and depression are both present. Postpartum depression is sometimes
experienced by new mothers. This form of depression results from physical and hormonal changes
combined with the pressure of caring for a newborn. Seasonal affective disorder is a type of
depression that affects people during times of decreased sunlight, particularly in the winter months

Reflection Of Depression
Who am I to judge? Occasionally, everyone will feel sad or upset when struggling with obstacles in
their life. However, within a couple of days these feelings may pass. According to the Mayo clinic,
"depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest." When
I lost my ill husband, I experienced a depressive disorder that interfered with my daily life. My
normal functions to move on didn't make sense. While he was alive he took care of all the bills and
assured that I was taking care of. It was a scary feeling to pick up the pieces where he left off and to
continue living in this foreign country. The pain of this depressive order caused me to push anyone
away from me, because I didn't trust anyone. My brother in–law didn't do anything to guide me
through the issues, such as taking care of my husband or deciding what to do with our finances. He
just wanted everything for himself and would've left me on the streets, but I prevailed with the help
of my friends and the military. Depression is a serious illness and without treatment a person may
not get better. Fortunately, for me, I got a strong support group that was there to help me pick up the
pieces of my devastation. Not a day goes by that I don't think about my husband, but I think he will
be proud of the woman I've have become. There is no single cause of depression, however some will

However, complementary medicines may work alongside traditional medications. Some examples
of CAM are acupuncture, diet, yoga, meditation, and physical activities such as sports, hiking, and

beneficial for the patient and their health. Also, using CAM as a way to treat certain illnesses can be
much less expensive than investing in antidepressants or other forms of medication. Overall, CAM
is a healthy and beneficial method to help alleviate depression and other similar health conditions.
Physical activities such as yoga, exercise, sports, and nature and outdoors activities affect victims of

To begin, yoga is a highly recommended activity to help reduce depression. Yoga is a mixture of
meditation, stretching, and breathing techniques that helps to clear the mind and focuses on positive

The Rate Of Aggregation, Differential, Sedimentation, And...
4. NEED FOR STABILISATION Although the small size of nanocrystals leads to several
advantages, but at the same time, it can lead to stability concerns as well. Theoretically, if we
increase the drug surface area, it leads to an increase in Gibbs free energy. The system tries to
reverse this increase by agglomeration/aggregation, ultimately leading to increased particle size and
reduced stability. Principally, the literature describes three mechanisms for aggregation–prekinetic
aggregation, differential sedimentation and orthokinetic aggregation. In any dispersion, the particles
are in continuous Brownian motion, and they may collide and stick together as a result of the
attractive forces between them. Such a mechanism for aggregation is known as prekinetic
aggregation. The rate of aggregation in such cases would be determined by the frequency of
collisions as well as the chances of cohesion during collision. Differential sedimentation assumes
importance when particles of varying sizes and densities settle in a suspension. Faster settling
particles collide with the slower moving ones, thereby resulting in aggregation. Lastly, the
orthokinetic aggregation mechanism describes the aggregation brought about by increased particle
collisions, arising out of particle transportation as a result of fluid motion. Orthokinetic aggregation
depends upon initial particle size and velocity gradient, but is independent of temperature. Apart
from aggregation, another stability issue

How Bipolar Is Caused By A Person
This paper is explaining how bipolar is caused, how to know if individuals have bipolar, how the
disorder in a person can affect others around them, along with examples and facts about the mood
disorder.
Bipolar can be caused by negative thinking and by a person thinking negative things about
themselves. There is a person who I know that can hardly think positive; this person is filled with
hate and hope others fail because, the person is miserable. Dopamine, serotonin, and also
norepinephrine are brain chemicals that can affect a person's mood. The person I know does not
want to get checked out but I feel there may be a few brain chemicals that are messed up. In
addition, the disorder can be caused by genes. The person I have been ... Show more content on

Some of the signs and symptoms of the disorder are constant mood changes, restlessness, paranoia,
aggressiveness, having unlimited energy, irritability, remaining inactive, seeming a little awkward or
weird to others, rapid speech, and being delusional. I feel people with bipolar impact their friends
and family in a negative way. For example, there is a girl named Molly. Molly gets mad at Holly for
no big reason. Holly gets upset because Molly is mad. Later on, Molly then becomes really
depressed that Holly is upset. Holly feels bad because she sees Molly crying. Dealing with people
who constantly change emotions can be tiring and confusing. The most difficult part is dealing with
random moods at random times. There is one person I know who blame anything on everyone but
this person feels like they do no wrong and that they are perfect. This person takes time out their day
to think of a whole scenario to make a problem seem like it was caused by the other person. This
person is always suspicious of other people and cannot trust them at all; the person feels like
everyone is up to something or doing something bad behind this person's back. There is another
person I know who gets really depressed, they feel like life is not worth living, this person gets
depressed too easily. All this person need is someone positive to talk with. Once the person feels
better, everything is fine. The repeating

  • 3. Bipolar And Its Effects On The Individual Have you ever spent a lot of time around or just know of someone who has been diagnosed as bipolar? Or somebody who doesn't act like they are all there? Bipolar is genetics wise, you can get it through DNA. It has many effects not only through the individual themselves but also family, friends, jobs, education. People who are diagnosed with this disorder have many amazing support systems behind them. There are medications, groups, therapy and friends and family who will always be there for them. The individual being diagnosed with bipolar don't see exactly what others see, with being bipolar it causes conflict in the family with that being said on daily basis fighting, yelling, reckless behavior occurs. Bipolar has many internal effects on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Children who are at the age of ten now have a fear of not being good enough to step up in a family. When somebody leaves a family due to the lack of parenting because the bipolar is taking control of them children are now having to take over the role of the parenting jobs because who else will be there for them? Children learn from children; it is so unlikely for a child to learn from a parent being diagnosed with bipolar. With all the fighting going on, it will build up stress upon everybody else, having stress in a house will only make thing ten times worse because with everybody being stressed out, they will get annoyed faster, don't have the patience, and just do what they feel like doing just so they can get the stress off them and take it onto somebody else and that will cause more fighting, arguing, and yelling and where does that get you? Absolutely nowhere but back to where it all started. Mood swings are also a big part of the disorder; you think everybody has mood swings? Well we all do but with being diagnosed with bipolar it affects them more serious than other individuals who are not diagnosed with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Temperament Characteristics Of Child Development Temperament is defined as the individual behavioral style of the child, the way in which he characteristically reacts to environmental stimuli. Temperament is distinct from the child's innate abilities and motivation. Their are nine temperament traits; activity being the first which is based on the level of motor component in a child's functioning, rated as regular, variable, or irregular. I would rate myself as moderate. I prefer to be independent; I rather do a task myself so that I don't have to watch someone else do it. I also don't like to be confined I prefer to explore the areas and things that surround me. Rhythmicity being the second temperament trait is all about the regularity or predictability in the timing of recurrent activities, rated as regular, variable, or irregular. Regular best describes me because I stick to a routine everyday and if it is changed I have a very hard time dealing with it. I eat the same thing everyday and at the same time everyday. I wake up every morning at the same time, but I fall asleep at different times depending on what I did that day. And lastly I have a difficult time adjusting to different time zones whenever I go away on vacation. The Approach/Withdrawal is the third temperament it is about the nature of a child's response to a new stimulus, rated as approach, variable, or withdrawal. Withdrawing child best fits me; it takes me awhile to warm up to new things, I'm cautious with new people, things and places. I prefer to surround ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Suicide Prevention For The Kern County Mental Health Hotline My family and friends don't quite understand my motivations to become a mental health counselor. Personally, I can think of nothing more rewarding than helping people through dark times and giving hope for a brighter future. Deep down, I'm an idealist with enough life experience to pepper my expectations. There are countless possible research topics within the mental health field, but I've recently developed a deep appreciation of suicide prevention since volunteering for the Kern County Mental Health Hotline. I've also become acutely aware of the relationship between suicide and mood disorders, such as depression and bipolar disorder. According to the CDC, suicide is the second leading cause of death for people aged 15 – 34 years old, and the 10th leading cause of death overall. An estimated 90% of those who have died by suicide suffered from mental illness. That makes mental illness the top risk factor (NAMI, 2016). I was able to find these statistics quite readily, but I couldn't find anything relating specifically to mood disorders. Since I am not sure of what type of research already exists on the subject matter, a literature review would be the perfect place to start. Not only would a review help verify that this is direction of research has potential, it would help to develop my understanding of the topic. If I do find that work has been done on the topic, I could narrow my scope to focus on points not previously covered. If I review the preexisting work and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Daughtery, in their publication: Connections Among Parental Mental Health, Stress, Child Routines, and Early Emotional Behavioral Regulation of Preschool Children in Low–Income Families, parents and their children must seek these types of methods that can allow the improvement of their executive control. (Zajicek–Farber, Mayer, Daughtery 2012, p.33). They also state that augmenting parental devotion in their child's routines is theorized as being an important factor for improving the effects that maternal depression often employs on young children's development (Zajicek–Farber et al., 2012, p.31). In order words, the best approach for the improvement of the executive control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the mental disorders that were discussed alter the individual's cognitive process such as attention in similar ways, it is healthier to seek therapy that are concentrated in areas that would help improve the patient's emotions, and better yet, to find a method that will lead to better control of the person's feelings and sensations. It is also important for anyone dealing with a mental disorder, that the best therapy in the long run would be a therapy approach that centralizes in treating all aspects of the illness. • 9. Essay on bipolar disorder Bipolar Disorder also known as Manic Depressive Illness involves outstanding mood swings. The individual has periods of depression, and periods when they feel either unusually good or pressured and irritable. It affects 1–2% of the population. Genetics plays a significant role. About 15% of children with one bipolar parent develop the disorder. Treatments include medication, supportive psychotherapy and occasionally ECT. Medications include lithium, anticonvulsant drugs (carbamazepine (Tegretol), valproate (Depakote), gabapentin (Neurontin) and lamotrigine Lamictal), antidepressants (such as bupropion (Wellbutrin)or sertraline (Zoloft)), neuroleptics (e.g. haloperidol) and benzodiazepines (e.g. lorazepam) Treatment choices depend on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is most often used when medication doesn't work or is unsafe. Lithium is a top choice for acute mania and for maintenance in 'classic' bipolar disorder. Because of its narrow therapeutic range, blood levels must be monitored; also heart and kidney function (EKG, blood and urine tests). Medications such as diuretics, that block its excretion require caution. Anticonvulsants have an edge with rapid–cycling and mixed mood states (e.g. depression with racing thoughts). Except for gabapentin (Neurontin) and lamotrigine (Lamictal), they require blood tests. Carbamazepine (Tegretol) is monitored with blood levels; also CBC, platelets and liver function tests. Valproate (Depakote) requires CBC, platelet count and liver function tests; blood levels may be helpful. Lamotrigine (Lamictal) requires caution because of its association with a rare but dangerous skin rash (exfoliative dermatitis); risk can be minimized by starting with low doses and increasing gradually. This is especially true when there have been multiple episodes, a clear family history of bipolar disorder or symptom onset before age 18. Effective maintenance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Genetic Disorder Or Autoimmune Disease A.Who first discovered the genetic disorder or autoimmune disease? Kraepelin recognized biological causes of mental illnesses. He is believed to be the first person to seriously study mental illnesses. Kraepelin 's Manic Depressive Insanity and Paranoia in 1921 detailed the difference between manic–depressive and praecox, which is now known as schizophrenia. B. Is the disease state recessive or dominant? One study has also found a higher frequency in families where the disorder is inherited from mothers. A particular case inquiry may be considered, assuming that bipolar affective disorder can be inherited as a sex–linked recessive trait or as an autosomal recessive trait. C. Differentiate between recessive or dominant? The difference between the two is that it depends on the parents in which one or the both have the gene that is dominant but in which chase if it is recessive it would not get passed down. D. Is it a chromosomal abnormality? Although there is compelling evidence from twin, family, and adoption studies to support strong genetic determinants for bipolar affective disorder, the underlying molecular–genetic basis for this condition remains poorly understood. Examples Of Season Ending Injuries Season ending injuries: Psychosocial aspect of rehabilitation within the athlete In all levels of sport, involvement there is a high incidence of injuries that are bound to occur. These injuries can range in severity, from simple cuts and bruises to season or even career ending injuries. In many cases, the injured athlete is initially assessed and diagnosed with whatever ailment they may have. Next, the athlete is treated for that injury whether it be surgery, physical therapy, or both and then is given time to physically recover from that injury. This execution of treatment is known as the biomedical model, which the majority of physicians in today's practice use. This plan seems to be universal and effective in many cases. What many ... I believe that if we as a consultant can keep the athlete striving for his or her own goals they can still feed the competitive drive that remains within the athlete. By continuing to set goals for the athlete we need to keep in mind that these goals need to be task oriented and not ego oriented. In other words, these goals set forth by the athlete and his physical therapist or consultant need to be concerned with the development of competence within the rehabilitation of the athlete. Doing so will promote self–efficacy through the value and commitment of the rehabilitation. What we should try to avoid, is setting ego–based goals where the athlete is compared to previous or current athletes with the same injury. This only lowers self–confidence and increases the already high anxiety levels within the injured athlete. In the second journal by (Rapp, 2006) the researcher conducted a test by which, "Individual responses of injured athletes varied from those who took injury in stride to those who required psychiatric intervention." Rapp (p. 9) This seemed to significantly designate the further examination of the importance of not simply "Assuming mood disturbances nor overlooking a serious emotional response in the injured athlete." Which means that BP disorder has been predominantly treated pharmacologically. Pharmacological treatment of BP disorder is not to be underestimated, but it is also not to be considered the first and last option of treatment. Research has shown that the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (along with various other treatments) combined with pharmacological treatment has been shown to have better efficacy than each of these approaches separately (Singleton, 2006). Blood levels must be check regularly to make sure that the lithium is within therapeutic levels to avoid lithium poisoning (Jann M. W., 2014). The next pharmacological treatment that will be discussed is probably the most controversial treatment for BP disorder, and that is antidepressants. • 14. Literature Review Of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome ( SJS ) Bipolar disorder is a complex mental health disorder that is characterized by recurrent episodes of elevated or irritable mood with variable states of depression (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Patients suffering from bipolar disorder not taking any maintenance medications have been shown to have relapse rates of approximately 61%, leading to significant impairments in functioning and quality of life (Goodwin et al., 2004). Anticonvulsants used as mood stabilizers have become the main therapy for preventing relapse of mood episodes (Stahl, 2013). A major concern that has risen from the use of anticonvulsants as mood stabilizers is the propensity to develop a major dermatologic emergency: Stevens–Johnson syndrome (SJS). A seven–year study completed by Devi et al. (2005) concluded that anticonvulsants were the cause implicated most in SJS, especially in the first eight weeks of treatment, and the main drug responsible (more than 80%) was carbamazepine. Providers involved in the initial and maintenance prescription of anticonvulsants as mood stabilizers, or for any other designated use, should be knowledgeable of the risk for SJS associated with these medications, and the benefit of using these medications as indicated. • 17. Analysis Of The Movie Mommie Dearest Psychological disorders are very real and present in many people we come in contact with daily, however, are very rarely talked about. Learning about these disorders can help us to understand others and ourselves better by telling us why we do and think the things we do. One effective way that we can observe and learn about psychological disorders is through movies. "Mommie Dearest" was directed by Frank Perry. It is centered around the actress Joan Crawford, who suffered from various psychological disorders. Joan's daughter, Christina, wrote a book about her mother and her many problems and it was later turned into a movie. It is very effective to use movie analysis as a way of learning, especially in psychology, because it provides a great way to observe without distractions. When you're looking at disorders, it's difficult to find a person who has many of these disorders and will allow you to observe them. Psychological disorders can be split into two major groups, personality disorders and mood disorders. Personality disorders are patterns of traits that can get in the way of your social or work life and may interrupt the individual's normal lifestyle. Mood disorders are inconsistent and unreliable changes in mood by the affected individual. (Rathus, 1998). With all of this being said, it brings me to my point that I will be talking about for the rest of this essay. Joan Crawford demonstrates the personality disorders of histrionic, narcissism, and OCPD. When it comes to mood disorders, Joan demonstrates bipolar disorder. First, I will be talking about histrionic. People who are histrionic are often very emotional and seek constant attention. (Psychology Today, 2017). The cause of this is unknown but some saw it may have something to do with childhood events and/or genetics. Symptoms of this are seeking reassurance constantly, being self–centered, being very concerned with physical appearance, and having your opinions be easily influenced by other people. There are many times in the movie where Joan Crawford showed signs of histrionic. The first example I will be sharing is at Christina's birthday party. (Mommie Dearest, 1981). It appeared to me that Joan adopted children just for the attention of it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effects of Exercise on Anxiety and Depression Essays Critically Analyse the Research Findings on the Acute and Chronic Effects of Exercise on Anxiety and Depression It has long been speculated that there is a relationship between exercise and it effects on anxiety and depression. However, it is not until recently that research has shown that exercise is associated with positive changes in mood and reductions in anxiety and depression. According to the Mental Health Victoria, depression is characterised by prolonged feelings of sadness, dejection and hopelessness and will affect one in four women and one in six men at some point in their lives. Investigations on the chronic effects of exercise have involved programs which last approximately 2–4 months consisting of two to four sessions per week. Most research on effects of acute exercise has focused on the reduction of state anxiety. Recent studies, (Focht & Hausenblas, 2001; Ekkekakis, Hall & Petruzzello, 1999) showed that aerobic exercise resulted in lowered state anxiety and higher tranquility scores. In addition to this, other research has revealed that moderate– intensity exercise produced the greatest positive effects in affective responses implying that the anxiety reduction following exercise occurs regardless of the intensity, duration or type of exercise (Berger, Pargman & Weinberg, 2002, pp. 399–401). Raglin and Morgan (1987) found that state anxiety was reduced for 24 hours after the exercise bout, whereas participants in a control rest condition returned to baseline levels within 30 minutes (Berger, Pargman & Weinberg, 2002, pp. 400). Although acute exercise is no more effective in decreasing state anxiety than quiet rest of distraction, the effects last longer. According to Breus and O'Connor (1998), the decrease in state anxiety after exercise lasted several hours, which was more than in the distraction and quiet rest groups. This implies that positive effects may be gained after a few weeks of training, but enduring effects may only be achieved through continuous exercise. There is a need to develop ... • 27. What Are Bipolar Disorder? The apparent increase in the number of children in today's society that are diagnosed with mental illness, especially that of bipolar disorder, does not seem to come as much of a surprise to anyone. Yet, why is this? Is the recent over–diagnosis due in part to fault within the definition of what pediatric bipolar disorder actually is? Many believe this to be the case; while others support the notion that bipolar disorder is not over diagnosed and the recent prevalence of the disorder is the result of increased awareness on the part of health professionals along with an increase in the number of children who are more readily succumbing to such a disorder. To admit to an over diagnosis should not be seen as a denial of the disease itself, but rather, the different clinical presentations of the disorder should be seen as an inconsistency among practitioners. This discrepancy results in the acknowledgment of more cases than actually exists; an admission of this over–diagnosis would be seen merely as a flaw within the ability of practitioners to reach a consensus. Such a flaw manifests itself in the over diagnosis of the disorder, which is something that, for the sake of the client as well as the field as a whole, should not be overlooked. Dissociative Identity Disorder Informative Essay Several people mix and confuse some of the causes and symptoms of Bipolar disorder and Dissociative Identity disorder. While both disorders do share certain symptoms, the differences could not be more prominent. Both disorders have similar causes, symptoms and treatment options. There are cases where the disorders have taken over, or they have become a part of people's everyday lives. Although you might want to feel sympathy for those who have been diagnosed, many of the people lead perfectly happy and normal lives. Bipolar disorder and D.I.D. have alike causes, but there are noticeable differences as well. For example, there are no real singular cause for either of them. Some cases of both disorders have reported that traumatic events can lead to these disorders. However, it is more common for those who are affected by the manic– depressive illness to receive the disorder through family genes. Unlike those who are bipolar, it is much more common to have dissociative identity among those who were physically or sexually abused as a child or young age. Contrary to belief D.I.D. is actually quite rare. There only about 200,000 U.S. cases per year. That is only about 1%–3% of America's population. Symptoms And Changes Of Depression Depression is a mood disorder characterized by pervasive sadness and psychophysiological changes like changes in sleep patterns, sexual desires, loss of pleasure in previously enjoyed things, and even suicidal thoughts (Belmaker & Agam, 2008, p. 55). Its rise in prevalence in Western society means that students with depression or depressive symptoms are more common in our schools. The students experience difficulty in motivation and self–esteem, and depression is often comorbid with disorders like ADHD, anxiety, and learning disabilities. This means that students need additional support in classrooms, and depression is very treatable with cognitive behavioral therapies. Body Increasing awareness of mental disorders like anxiety, ADHD, depression, OCD, eating disorders, and PTSD, has increased public dialog about these disorders. Currently the World Health Organization estimates that by 2020 depression will be the 2nd highest cause of morbidity, poor health or diseased state, worldwide (Popa, 2012, p. 414). One of the biggest shifts in recognizing mental disorders like depression as real and dangerous disorders was the suicide of Robin Williams, who struggled with severe depression and anxiety related to Parkinson's disease ("Robin Williams", 2015). And while later evidence links the cause of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unlike just feeling upset for a day or a few hours, people with this illness can not just simply will themselves to feel better. Going for a walk or talking to friends or family will not cheer them up. It is much more serious than that. These feelings start to interfere with the person's daily routine and life. On top of sadness, feelings of worthlessness, helplessness, and in severe conditions, thoughts of suicide can occur. There are three main types of depression which are Major Depressive Disorder, Dysthymia, and Bipolar Disorder. (Sources One and Two). The first and most common type of depression is Major Depressive Disorder. This is also commonly called Unipolar Depression or Clinical Depression. Continuous feelings of sadness, emptiness, and hopelessness are some symptoms of Clinical Depression. • 32. The Role Of Family And Caretakers Relationships Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder that often leads to a disruptive lifestyle. It is a subgroup of bipolar I which is manic and depressive episodes and bipolar II which is hypomanic and depressive episodes. However, very little research has been done in terms of how this disorder impacts family members and caretakers. The rationale behind this topic is to examine some of the research done involving strengths and struggles of family and caretakers relationships. The articles that will be discussed include: Family Functioning in the Context of Parental Bipolar Disorder: Association with Offspring Age, Sex, and Psychopathology, Relatives' Emotional Involvement Moderates the Effects of Family Therapy for Bipolar, and In sickness and in health: The experiences of friends and relatives caring for people with manic depression. While reading these articles I noticed many of them had similar themes. One of the common themes throughout these articles is the need to continuously do more research and provide more resources for the caretakers. Another recurring topic in the articles was the importance family relationships have on the individual with bipolar disorder and their outcomes with treatment, along with how these interactions affect the other members of the family. A strength that was present in each article was the depth of detail presented in each study; this description will make it easier to replicate the studies. These commonalities throughout the articles may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rothbard and Wilk's (2010) Study Although there are very few studies which examine the effect of mood on job performance, Rothbard and Wilk's (2010) research is of great value.[2] They studied the moods and performance of 29 customer service representatives in a large insurance company over a three–week period. They wanted to find out how the mood that customer service representatives bring to the workplace at the start of the day influence task engagement and performance throughout the day and how the changes in moods during the interactions with the customers affect the rest of the workday. In this study, both positive and negative mood from non– work sources have been shown to influence work mood and behaviors. They brought forth three sets of hypotheses: Hypothesis 1a: Higher start–of–day positive mood will be associated with higher positive work mood later in the day, controlling for trait affect. Hypothesis 1b: Higher start–of–day negative mood will be associated with higher negative work mood later in the day, controlling for trait affect. Hypothesis 2a: Higher perceived customer positive mood will be associated with higher positive employee work mood during the day, controlling for trait affect. Hypothesis 2b: Higher perceived customer negative mood will be associated with higher negative employee work mood during the day, controlling for trait affect. • 36. Reflection Of Depression Who am I to judge? Occasionally, everyone will feel sad or upset when struggling with obstacles in their life. However, within a couple of days these feelings may pass. According to the Mayo clinic, "depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest." When I lost my ill husband, I experienced a depressive disorder that interfered with my daily life. My normal functions to move on didn't make sense. While he was alive he took care of all the bills and assured that I was taking care of. It was a scary feeling to pick up the pieces where he left off and to continue living in this foreign country. The pain of this depressive order caused me to push anyone away from me, because I didn't trust anyone. My brother in–law didn't do anything to guide me through the issues, such as taking care of my husband or deciding what to do with our finances. He just wanted everything for himself and would've left me on the streets, but I prevailed with the help of my friends and the military. Depression is a serious illness and without treatment a person may not get better. Fortunately, for me, I got a strong support group that was there to help me pick up the pieces of my devastation. Not a day goes by that I don't think about my husband, but I think he will be proud of the woman I've have become. There is no single cause of depression, however some will experience one depression episode in a lifetime. In this paper I will discuss some signs and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a mind–set tipped in favour of creative activity rather than boredom, joy over sadness, hope over futility. A positive attitude is that state of mind which can be maintained only through conscious effort. When something jars one's mental focus into a negative direction, those who are positive know that in order to bounce back adjustments must be made. THE CHOSEN ISSUE Attitude is the way you communicate your mood to others. Complementary and alternative medicine is increasing in popularity because it can be more beneficial for the patient and their health. Also, using CAM as a way to treat certain illnesses can be much less expensive than investing in antidepressants or other forms of medication. Overall, CAM is a healthy and beneficial method to help alleviate depression and other similar health conditions. Physical activities such as yoga, exercise, sports, and nature and outdoors activities affect victims of depression in a positive way and can improve their mental health. To begin, yoga is a highly recommended activity to help reduce depression. Yoga is a mixture of meditation, stretching, and breathing techniques that helps to clear the mind and focuses on positive energy within an individual. • 39. The Rate Of Aggregation, Differential, Sedimentation, And... 4. NEED FOR STABILISATION Although the small size of nanocrystals leads to several advantages, but at the same time, it can lead to stability concerns as well. Theoretically, if we increase the drug surface area, it leads to an increase in Gibbs free energy. The system tries to reverse this increase by agglomeration/aggregation, ultimately leading to increased particle size and reduced stability. Principally, the literature describes three mechanisms for aggregation–prekinetic aggregation, differential sedimentation and orthokinetic aggregation. In any dispersion, the particles are in continuous Brownian motion, and they may collide and stick together as a result of the attractive forces between them. Such a mechanism for aggregation is known as prekinetic aggregation. The rate of aggregation in such cases would be determined by the frequency of collisions as well as the chances of cohesion during collision. Differential sedimentation assumes importance when particles of varying sizes and densities settle in a suspension. Faster settling particles collide with the slower moving ones, thereby resulting in aggregation. Lastly, the orthokinetic aggregation mechanism describes the aggregation brought about by increased particle collisions, arising out of particle transportation as a result of fluid motion. Orthokinetic aggregation depends upon initial particle size and velocity gradient, but is independent of temperature. Apart from aggregation, another stability issue ... • 40. How Bipolar Is Caused By A Person This paper is explaining how bipolar is caused, how to know if individuals have bipolar, how the disorder in a person can affect others around them, along with examples and facts about the mood disorder. Bipolar can be caused by negative thinking and by a person thinking negative things about themselves. There is a person who I know that can hardly think positive; this person is filled with hate and hope others fail because, the person is miserable. Dopamine, serotonin, and also norepinephrine are brain chemicals that can affect a person's mood. The person I know does not want to get checked out but I feel there may be a few brain chemicals that are messed up. In addition, the disorder can be caused by genes. The person I have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the signs and symptoms of the disorder are constant mood changes, restlessness, paranoia, aggressiveness, having unlimited energy, irritability, remaining inactive, seeming a little awkward or weird to others, rapid speech, and being delusional. I feel people with bipolar impact their friends and family in a negative way. For example, there is a girl named Molly. Molly gets mad at Holly for no big reason. Holly gets upset because Molly is mad. Later on, Molly then becomes really depressed that Holly is upset. Holly feels bad because she sees Molly crying. Dealing with people who constantly change emotions can be tiring and confusing. The most difficult part is dealing with random moods at random times. There is one person I know who blame anything on everyone but this person feels like they do no wrong and that they are perfect. This person takes time out their day to think of a whole scenario to make a problem seem like it was caused by the other person. This person is always suspicious of other people and cannot trust them at all; the person feels like everyone is up to something or doing something bad behind this person's back. There is another person I know who gets really depressed, they feel like life is not worth living, this person gets depressed too easily. All this person need is someone positive to talk with. Once the person feels better, everything is fine. The repeating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
