2. IMAGE SELECTION
In line with other movie posters, we knew that e would need two stills that we would
need to combine in other to create the kind of image that you would find on a
normal poster.
We therefore decided we would need a wide shot that cold act as a background
image, then a close-up image of the Boy who seems the victim in the film, as the
foreground. This would enable the audience to both get a sense of the genre of
the film and give the audience a character with whom to identify.
We used the media player VLC to grab the stills.
5. SELECTION
In order to extract the image of the boy from the main image, we used the magnetic
lasso tool in Adobe Photoshop. We then selected way the background layer and
created a new image with just the boy, which we would then add to the
background wide shot.
6. CROPPING
We then decided that the wide shot image was too wide to act as the background
image, as the boy seemed to big in terms of perspective, so we chose to crop out
a selection of the wide shot to act as a new background.
7. COMBINING FOREGROUND AND BACKGROUND
We combined the two new images in Photoshop and slightly shifted the image of the
boy so he was composed better to the right of the background, adding to the
spooky atmospehere.
8. COLOUR CONVERSION
Although we really liked the combination of images, and were happy with the
effect, we though it could be even more sinister, so we though we would see if it
would look better in Black and White. We use the Black and White Adjustment
Layer in Photoshop to achieve this.
9. B/W IMAGE
We really liked the look of the image in b/w so we decided this would act as the final
image. It was the right combination of narrative and genre for us, and clearly
communicated what the film would look like to our target audience. We added a
little vignette using filter in Photoshop.
10. TEXT
Now that we had the image, we just needed to add text for the film’s title and the
credits at the bottom. We again used Photoshop to add the text and select the
font. We knew that the font would have to be like those for Horror films; sinister
and scary. We went through several different ones before we found the right one.
