workplace.

Have you ever found
yourself scrambling to get
the paperwork done after
completing a sale? This
should be a happy moment,
but what happens when
your client sends your
contract as a PDF? That
means work! You have to
print the contract out, write
in your business name and
Tax ID, sign and date it,
etc., all before scanning it
so you can send it back.
Dochub.com is a
powerful Chrome extension
that allows you to edit and
sign PDF documents right
on your desktop. The
edited, signed version can
then be downloaded as a
PDF and emailed back as
an attachment, all without
the need to print or write
anything by hand. I estimate
that DocHub saves me 15
minutes per contract.
The best exercise is to
expand your horizons. I am
a big believer in the need for
everyone to expand their
horizons by taking prudent
risks on a regular basis.
Look for opportunities in
your area of expertise that
are a significant step up
from your comfort zone,
and pursue them. I strive
to have a strong sense of
“imposter syndrome” one
time a week. If I don’t
get the feeling that I’m
reaching beyond my skills
and abilities at least once
a week, I know that I’m
not trying hard enough or
taking enough risks.
“Detest failure, but don’t
fear it.”
Fear of failure can
be paralyzing, and so I
created this line. Fear stifles
creativity and encourages
mediocrity because
professionals who are
afraid to fail avoid taking
the prudent risks that
can lead to their greatest
accomplishments.
While a certain level of
failure is inevitable for risk-
takers, there is no reason to
take your failure lightly. No
matter how far out of my
comfort zone, or how long
the odds for a particular
venture, every failure eats at
me in a way that motivates
me to do better the next
time around.
One of the best parts
of the Calvin and Hobbes
comic strip is that it allows
for the exploration of adult
tendencies through the
prism of a five-year-old
child. I love this particular
strip because it really does
reflect my creative process.
I have always found it
difficult to create ideas well
in advance of a deadline,
especially when I am
consciously trying to do so.
There is something
about the stress of last-
minute pressure that gets
my creative juices flowing.
While I wouldn’t call it a
“panic,” there is no question
that I come up with my best
ideas under pressure.
