Theme Of Walk Two Moon By Sharon Creech
"Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins," –Sharon Creech. Sals
development through her life was mainly because of the points in her life where she accepted a
challenge instead of denying it. In Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, the author develops the
theme of acceptance through Sals characterization, internal and external conflict, and the plot of the
story. During the story, Sals characterization contributes to the author's theme of acceptance. The
author uses Sal's characterization to express her feelings when she says, "I did not think we would
ever leave, and yet I did not want to leave. I did not really expect to survive the trip," (Creech 6).
When Sal says this she is showing that she didn't want to go because her dad wasn't going with her.
Sal had to accept that she had to go on the trip with or without her father. The author also shows
acceptance when she says, "One day I realized that our whole trip to Lewiston had been a gift from

The plot of the story is described when the it says, "I stood beneath that tree for the longest time,
hoping to catch sight of the bird who was singing such song. There was no bird," (93). Sal had to
realize that there was no bird which conveyed the plot to the reader. Sal expresses the plot again
when she says, "When I walk in her moccasins, though, I say, if I were my mother, I might want
more children," (264). Sal is putting herself in someone else's shoes which was a plot to the story.
She also expresses what she would do and her feelings. Sal shows the theme through the plot when
she says, "I looked up at where her mouth must have touched the trunk. I probably imagined this,
but I thought I could detect a small dark stain, as from a blackberry kiss," (122). One of the plots
was the blackberry kiss, and Sal is describing the tree and the stain. Overall, the plot and setting
contribute to the story's theme of

Charles Manson Neglect
Other Contexts of Neglect and Abuse Manson's grandparents. When Kathy Maddox was arrested
and imprisoned in 1940 for an armed robbery, 6–year old Manson was sent to live with his
grandparents who were perceived as overly obsessive religious fanatics. According to Hickey
(2003), Manson's grandmother dominated the household with both a stern and unwavering
interpretation of what she believed to be "God's plan and some of her strictly religious practices
included intense prayer sessions both before and after meals, as well as at bedtime. There was no
drinking, smoking, or swearing allowed, and Manson was told to turn the other cheek to any violent
or aggressive act initiated by some of the other kids at school. His grandmother also demanded that
everyone living in her house must abide by her rules or else suffer the consequences, and this
included her own husband as well. As Hickey (2003) explains, Manson "never witnessed any

Adler's theory of individual personality doesn't necessarily account for individuals with two unique
sides personality, which is evident throughout the context and background of his life. On one hand,
he was a magnetic and loving person that drew in others with his intelligence and self–proclaimed
talent. On the other hand, the persona he presented to others was not his true self. Deep within the
depths of Manson's charming personality hides a villain, a manipulator, a criminal, and a murderer.
In addition to the many lies that he has told about both himself and his life, as well as the
manipulative behavior he displays, it's exceptionally hard to decipher what is fact and what is just
simply untrue, making the application of any psychological theory nearly impossible. However,
Adlerian theory does provide a probable explanation for why Manson turned out the way he

Post Modernism And Its Influence On Society
Post–modernism came about in the late–20th century following modernism, which was a period
where people had a new found freedom to follow their own path in life, whether it was religion,
science, philosophy, art, or really anything they put their mind to as opposed to strictly traditional
beliefs. Writers could express their emotions more easily without really feeling a backlash from
what everyone else thought. Two female writers who were able to freely express themselves in their
writing during post–modernism were Linda Pastan and Sharon Olds. Linda
Pastan talked more about her life in general like every day anxieties, her marriage, parenting, and
even grief. However, Sharon Olds was a little more controversial in her writing since she often
talked about sexuality and violence. Their writing styles were similar in the aspect that they both
enjoyed writing based on their own lives, but still very different on how they talked about certain
subject matter. Even with different approaches, these two authors were still both very influential on
others who wanted to share the same dream. Both authors have had similar educational backgrounds
and writing recognition. Pastan
Was raised in New York City and attended Radcliffe College. After her graduation, she decided to
focus her life on her family and did not return to writing until 10 years later when she was
encouraged by her husband to do so. She received awards such as Mademoiselle poetry prize, the

What You Pawn I Will Redeem By Sherman Alexie
Personal identity is a way one sees themselves and is related to their image and self esteem. It
guides them through their life as to what they want to do and get out of life. It is also an indication
of a person 's individualism and self–satisfaction. It is an important aspect of a person 's life. Every
person identifies themselves to certain groups, organizations, culture, ethnicity, characters, goals or

Character Analysis Of Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech
Walk Two Moons written by Sharon Creech was first published in 1994. This story occurs during
1990's. The story is told in first–person perspective as told by Sal (Salamanca).
There are several main characters. The first three Sal, who tries to find out a secret about her mom.
Her mom,who is being called by Sugar, because her last name is Chanhassen, which means sugar.
Sugar was very quiet and always worries about being respectful in front of other. While Sal is very
active. Phoebe is another main character, she is crazy with her ideas. Phoebe has a sister named
Prudence. She is just in love with cheerleading and doesn't care about her family. The
Winterbottom's are very respectful, except, they worry too much. There are also four other main ...

Sal finds out that her mom had suicided herself. Phoebe had finally stopped caring about herself and
started caring about her mom. Prudence, is still upset with her cheerleading. Sal got to Idaho
through many different obstacles, which were facing her during the ride. After seeing her mom's
grave, she now understands that her mom will never come back, but it doesn't mean that she has to
forget about her mom. Mrs. Cadaver, wasn't as mean as Phoebe thought she was. Mr. Hiddle told the
relationship between Cadaver and him to Sal. Of course our narrator was mad, but she thought about
her dad. She didn't want to lose her dad also. She wanted him to be happy, so she let it go. Ben and
Sal are so close to each other now. I can't even describe the relationship. Sal likes the grapefruit
smell of his hair, and Ben likes her in everything. Ben is a nice drawer and a nice kisser by the way.
Everyday Gram and Gramps make troubles, but it's better than before. Everyone knows that a
person's characteristic can never change. Also, now we can see some smiles from Sal and Phoebe.
Sal, Phoebe, Ben and Mary continue going to school, and keep a really good relationship between
each other. Especially Sal and Phoebe, they probably are best friends. In addition, thanks to Phoebe,
Sal can laugh once a

Themes In Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech
Do you know what it's like to feel abandoned? In the book Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech
there are a lot of themes like independency, family and many others. The ones that I like the most
that I feel are the best and most represented are, motherhood and abandonment. I feel like in the
book Sal is the most affected by these themes. On the start of the book Sal and her father moved to
Euclid, Ohio after her mother's death. After that event Sal went through a lot of mixed feelings, she
was feeling envious and guilty because she thought her mother wasn't happy with her so she was
envy that she wanted another child, and when her mother lost the baby she felt guilty thinking it was
her fault. She was also angry at her father because she thought he was the one who drove her mother
away. And she was also feeling like she was abandoned because her mother left , and when the
accident happened she felt sad because she never said goodbye to her mother and there was also a
lot more of change, changes she never wanted to happen. Before Sal's mother left her she had a lot
of mixed feelings, but after she did she felt even more feelings. ... Show more content on

Her mother left because when you become a mother you give a lot of things up, and she felt like she
had things to do to be happier. Also when her mother left she never said goodbye because she
thought she would came, back but then... the accident happened and Sal was actually very mature
about that, but inside she was really sad and abandoned. That is why most of the book is Sal and her
grandparents traveling from Ohio to Idaho (where her mother was buried) just so Sal can say
goodbye to her. And that Sal could have the closure she needed, to move on. She was also feeling
like there was way too much changes going on, like the move to Euclid, her and her father living
without her mother for good, and also

Miguel Venegas, and Milo Flores. Milo, son of an intellectual City Judge, Manuel Flores was a
heavy user of drugs and influenced Martinez to try them. Moreover, Milo and Venegas were into
drugs and satanism which played a significant role in the murder they committed. One day, the three

Meir Dagan was born in 1945 as Meir Huberman on a train between the USSR and Poland while his
Polish Jewish parents were escaping the Holocaust to live in the Soviet Union. Dagan and his family
lived in the USSR until 1950 when they relocated to Bat Yam, Israel. His family lived in Bat Yam
and operated a Laundromat. Dagan studied painting and sculpture at Tel Aviv University. In 1963, as
is customary in Israel, Dagan was conscripted into the Israeli Defense Forces at the age of eighteen.
Though he was initially set on joining the elite Special Forces deep reconnaissance unit, Sayeret

Sharon, intent on destroying external threats to Israel, gave Dagan a mandate to hunt down the
enemies of Israel abroad. Dagan's first test came in November 2002 when an Israeli–owned hotel in
Nairobi, Kenya was bombed by Al–Qaeda. Dagan deployed his a squad of his elite hit team known
as the Kidon to find and kill the perpetrators. Dagan's team traveled from Kenya to Morocco to Iraq,
killing every major member of the terrorist plot at each stop. Following this enormous success,
Sharon gave Dagan free rein to eliminate threats to Israel abroad using whatever means necessary.
In fact, under Dagan, the Mossad tripled recruitment and used his connections with his allies in the
Knesset to increase funding to almost $350 million dollars annually, much of which went from
traditional intelligence and analysis to field operations and "special tasks". Ehud Yatom, member of
the Knesset Subcommittee of Secret Services wrote, "... I can say this with complete authority: The
Mossad under Meir Dagan has undergone a revolution in terms of organization, intelligence and
operations."
Dagan has focused Mossad's operations almost entirely on two objectives: preemptively neutralizing
anti–Israeli terrorists, especially those of Hezbollah and Hamas and sabotaging Iran's nuclear
program. In both cases, according to former Labor Party Chairman, Amram Mitzna, Dagan has
proved successful: "Israel is enjoying unprecedented happiness because of Meir." Dagan retired
from his post in 2009

To Kill A Mockingbird Character Analysis
"Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins." This is a common Native
American proverb, and also a quote from the book Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech. This is
telling you to look at a situation from someone else's point of view before making a decision. By
doing this, you become inadvertently more sympathetic and compassionate towards other people.
Many times in To Kill a Mockingbird, the main characters: Scout, Jem, and Atticus, look at
something from another person's shoes. On page 30, Atticus gives Scout this advice and at first she
doesn't understand it. As the book progresses, she sees the meaning of his words and becomes more
sympathetic as a result. Some cases of these three characters taking this advice are the interactions
between Jem and Ms. Dubose, Atticus talking to Jem about the snowman that Jem made, and at the
very end when Scout walks Boo Radley back to his house after the night when Jem broke his arm.
In the novel and the film, the character Ms. Dubose was an ill, as in sick, ill, as in ill–tempered, and
old, as in very very old woman who lived on the street that Scout and Jem lived on. Her house was
several down and across from them, but the two kids still had to pass it every time they went to
school or town. The old lady would always shout out at them, berating them for what seemed like
everything. They both would become very angry or possibly scared or nervous by certain things she
said. Some examples include her saying that it's

Important Settings In Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech
Important Settings for Sal
"... I am a country girl at heart... and brave." (Creech pg 1 and 12) This is how Sharon Creech,
author of Walk Two Moons develops her main character, Sal. The protagonist in the story resists,
travels, and returns to bybanks. With all of this, this helps Sal to grow throughout the novel. In the
beginning, Euclid Ohio represents all things different and new to Sal, her new everyday normal
without her mom.Sal explains at the beginning of the story "No trees... this is where we're going to
live?" (Creech pg 1) Euclid differs from Bybanks because Euclid has no trees, and the houses squish
together. Sal misses all these things which shows the difference from Euclid to Bybanks. Another
important setting in Ohio ly's Phoebe's house "... I sat down at the table. What I started doing was
remembering the day before my mother left." (Creech pg 97) When Sal goes to Phoebe's house in
Euclid, she starts realizing things about her mom and how she took her mom for granted. Thirdly,
Ben from Sal's new school in Ohio appears and plays a role in her life. " I wanted to touch his face,
right there on his cheek. (Creech pg 156) Sal thinks of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"I made my way down the hill toward the bus." (Creech pg 250) When Sal sees the location of her
mom's death, she starts to partly realize that her mom will never return. Shortly after, Sal come to
the realization, "That I knew , by myself, and for myself. That she was not coming back." (Creech
pg 254) Once she determines that her mom will not come back she stops holding a grudge about her
mom's death. Lastly in Coeur d'alene Grams dies. "I am sorry to say that our Gooseberry died at
three o'clock this morning." (creech pg 258) Although tremendously sad, Sal must come to grips
with the fact that her mom died, and grams died in Coeur d'alene. These events create realizations
about the role of Gram's, and Sal's mom in her

Gender Roles In Childrens Literature Essay
Gender Bias in Literature
I have thought about many different ways to organize this paper and have come to the conclusion
that the best way to approach the topic is on a book–by–book basis. My perceptions of the gender
biases in these books vary greatly and I did not want to begin altering my views on each so that they
would fit into certain contrived connections. What interests me most in these stories is how the
authors utilize certain character's within their given environment. Their instincts and reactions are a
wonderful window into how the authors perceive these "people" would interact with their
surroundings and often are either rewarded or punished by the author through consequences in the

Pendanski, a whiny and unrespected man in the grand scheme of things at camp, in the role of
mother. They did not turn to the only woman present at the camp, nor the man who disciplines them
each day, to fill their maternal needs. Instead they turn to the weakest figure in their lives and mock
him by referring to him as a woman. This demonstrates to us that Sachar considers femininity a
weakness in this world and has no issues showing us. As Ernst wrote, "How easy is it to relegate
girls to second class citizens when they are seen as second–class citizens, or not at all" (Ernst 67).
This point is only furthered by the fact that the only woman present is such a fairy tale character.
She is portrayed to us as all but a sorceress and it can be assumed she has taken on this persona in
order to survive in a predominately male post in a totally male dominated environment. Even in our
class it was evident that many readers were taken aback by the fact that Sachar chose to make his
warden a female. And so it again can be seen that Sachar has imparted onto us a bias that a real
woman could not function in this world so he had to invent a completely fictional and grandiose
one. With all the other characters in the book appearing so human, it seems obvious he turned the
warden into a beast because he felt he had to.
In What Jamie Saw, by Carolyn Coman, gender bias shows itself in a new way. In this book

reached theta clear while in prison. He supposedly achieved this through many "auditing sessions,"
the method that Scientologists use to teach awareness, taught by his cell mate, Lanier Rayner

Change And Change In Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech
Mary Engelbreit once said, "If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it; change the
way you think about it." This quote is a strong connection with Sal, when she grew up she had tons
of external forces that caused her to think about things in a different way than before. She never

just change her problems, but she could change the way she looked at them. In the book Walk Two

to believe that her father is forgetting about her mother and focusing more on Mrs. Cadaver. Sal
says, "I hoped Mr.Birkway was in love with Margaret Cadaver and would marry her and take her
away so that my father and I could go back to Bybanks," (page 116). Sal wonders if Mr. Birkway
will take Mrs. Cadaver away then everything will go back to normal. However, the day that Mrs.
Cadaver told her how her and her father met, Sal figured that Mrs. Cadaver wasn't a bad person that
she wanted to get rid of anymore. Sal didn't want to believe Margaret Cadaver, until she saw the bus
alongside the overlook in Coeur d'Alene. She realized that the only reason why Margaret hung out
with her father was because they were close friends that connected with her mother. Sal believes that

Sharon Creech Walk Two Moon Analysis
"Just over a year ago, my father plucked me up like a weed and took me and all our belongings...
and we drove three hundred miles straight north and stopped in front of a house in Euclid, Ohio"
(Creech, 1). Sal moved away from her home, in Bybanks which she adored very much. But what
were the reasons? In "Walk Two Moons," Sharon Creech uses settings that show significance to the
protagonist Sal, by connecting it to how long she's lived there, features of the setting, and her loved
ones. Bybanks is important to the protagonist, Sal, because it has been her home for almost her
whole life. The author expresses this first by stating, "I have lived most of my thirteen years in

For example, "My father and I are living on our farm again, and Gramps is living with us, Gram is
buried in the aspen grove where she and Gramps were married" (Creech, 260). Undeniably, this
quote states the fact that one of Sal's loved ones is buried near her, in Bybanks. Therefore, the fact
that Grams is buried in Bybanks, it's natural for Sal to feel more connected to the environment
around her. Moreover, another quote, "We miss our gooseberry everyday" (Creech, 260). First of all,
this quote appears to be quite straightforward, but it's very critical. It shows how Sal feels about one
of her family members passing away. But the reader can infer, that by Sal being in Bybanks is a way
to make her feel closer to her beloved Gram. Also, "Gramps is different. He needs Gram right here.
He needs to walk out to that aspen grove to see his gooseberry" (Creech, 262). Evidently, this quote
is also pretty crucial. The people around her (Gramps) are also affected by Gram's passing. And
needs her near to feel better about that fact. Gramps feels safer when Grams is buried where he is
near, and it's natural to overlap feelings. As a result of these pieces of evidence, Bybanks is
important to Sal, because it is where some of her family is buried, and she feels more connected to
the environment because of

Examples Of Family In Walk Two Moons
Family is not an important thing. It's everything. In the whole world, there are many different types
of family. The broken ones, the chaotic ones, the ordinary ones and the extraordinary ones. In the
novel Walk Two Moons, written by Sharon Creech, there are some families, and all of them are
unique. There is Salamanca's family, which used to live in Bybanks, Kentucky. Salamanca is the
main character of the book, she went on a trip with her grandparents, it was the same her mother did
before dying. Salamanca was an immature girl in the beginning of the novel, but throughout, she
changed a lot. Her mother went on her own journey, and now Sal and her father lived alone. They
decided to move to Euclid, Ohio, a big city with no nature around. Unfortunately, she has a broken
family. On the other side, Ben, who was Sal's classmate and boyfriend by the end of the novel, was

The strange ones, the chaotic or crazy ones, the normal ones, and unfortunately, the broken ones,

Sal's family can be categorized by the broken one. Phoebe's family is the chaotic and crazy one. And
finally, Ben's family is categorized as strange. The author Sharon Creech of the novel Walk Two
Moons had the idea of writing this novel to show the readers the amount of different type of family
there is and how they are happy in their own way. Family is one theme of the novel but can be
considered as not an important theme to some people, but to me it is. Even though the author doesn't
mention family many times, one of the main things in the book is family. One phrase that I
memorized from the novel is "don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his mocassin"

Life Lessons In Walk Two Moons, By Sharon Creech
Life Lessons Someone once said, "Life's best lessons seemed to be learned at the worst times." It is
true to Sal because when she found her mom's grave she believed that he mom was dead but still

Though the story does begin with Sal going on a car trip with her grandparents, what makes the
story intriguing is the fact that it tells two stories at once. Since Sal's mother had mysteriously gone
missing after leaving the family, the young girl decided to "walk in her mother's moccasins". So, she
decided to go on a journey with her grandparents on the same route that her mother had left. While

The Cliffhanger In Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech
I. Cliffhanger: a cliffhanger in literature is a device, borrowed from early serialized film, in which a
writer ends a chapter on a note of suspense, encouraging the reader to continue on to the next
chapter. What is the cliffhanger at the end of Chapter Thirty–One?
In the novel Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech the author ends Chapter Thirty–One with a
cliffhanger. The protagonist, Sal calls her friend and tells her "Phoebe, we've got to find her." and
Phoebe replies "That's what I've been telling you." (pg. 132). This is a cliffhanger because the author
stops the chapter in the middle of the conversation without the reader finding out what Sal and
Phoebe are going to do to find Phoebe's mother. II. Refrain: How does the refrain change as Sal and
her grandparents get to the Badlands? What do you predict will happen?
In the novel Walk Two Moons the author Sharon Creech uses the technique of refrain to develop the
mood of the story. This refrain: "the sound of the wind was hurry, hurry, hurry, and at night, even the
silent darkness whispered rush, rush, rush" appears for the first time on page four. She repeatedly
comes back to the sound of the wind telling her to hurry and rush throughout her journey. The author
uses this refrain to set an ominous tone as well as to create a sense of urgency. When Sal "swept on
across South Dakota toward the Badlands" the author changes the refrain "the whispers no longer
said, hurry, hurry or, rush, rush. They now said, slow down,

Dennis Ashwell's Life In Vietnam
It was the summer of Vietnam, The Grateful Dead, and free love. Nothing made sense, and the
cultural landscape around the world was smashed into pieces. It was a world in flux, a world awash
in a tsunami of what was and what could be. In June of 1697 dissatisfaction reached a head ushering
in a new era of rambunctious youth that had enough of the status quo. Dennis Ashwell was no
different despite his background. He hailed from a penthouse in New York overlooking Central
Park. He went to good schools and got good grades. He went to cocktail parties hosted by his
mother in swanky hotels, and hobnobbed with his father at political events, fully realizing he served
as a shining beacon of how young adults should act. At 18, he was accepted and went to Harvard. ...

He had no car, $102, and a backpack of clothes and books. He took buses until he ran out of money
somewhere between Arkansas and Texas. Then he went on route 66 and jutted out his thumb. He
met his fair share of creeps and weirdos, but the majority were friendly and his journey uneventful.
His one mistake was falling asleep in the back of a lumber pickup truck and winding up in
Mendocino Beach, 200 miles away from where he wanted to go. Lumbering back onto the highway
he stuck out his thumb once again and waited. He waited until one night a large VW bus slowed
down. The bus was large, almost like a truck, and was painted a cacophony of bright colors. Out of
the bus appeared a short man with crazy hair and battered clothing – his eyes wild and his jaw
clenching and unclenching. As the man got closer Dennis could smell a heavy mix of perspiration,
day old milk, and marijuana, yet he wasn't unnerved, the man seemed alright. They shook hands, the
man introduced himself as Charlie, and Dennis agreed to ride with him and his group to San

Charles Manson Research Paper
Manson In the summer of August, 1969, free love reigned and cries of protest against the Vietnam
War could be heard throughout the streets of America. It seemed to most that this era, filled with the
ideals of hippies and psychedelic media, would never end. However, the era seemed to come to an
abrupt halt on the night of August 9th, when five innocent people were horribly slain, including
pregnant actress Sharon Tate. These murders would be followed by another set, the following night.
This time it would be Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, wealthy grocery chain owners. Though the
murders were at first unsolved, Charles Manson and four women, who were a part of his cult–like
"family," were accused, in December of that year, and put on trial for ... Show more content on

This movie follows the entire Tate–LaBianca case from the discovery of the first murder, to the day
that Manson and his followers were declared guilty. The movie follows the case with an omniscient
point of view, mainly focusing on the point of view of the leading prosecutor, Vincent Bugliosi.
Occasionally, the viewer receives information Bugliosi does not have, by switching to the viewpoint
of a Family member. The film accurately displays most historical facts, including an in depth
explanation of what Charlie led the Family to believe; killing was a form of love, because they were
simply setting a soul free, and that Charlie was Jesus in the flesh. The amount of violence in the
movie is not depicted as it was in real life. This is because showing true–to–life, graphic images of
the murders was not appropriate for television at that time. This does not change the overall
effectiveness of the movie, as the actors do a good job portraying their horror at the

The Spicy Hot Pot In Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech
The Spicy Hot Pot An American marine biologist, Rachel Carson states, "For the sense of smell,
almost more than any other, has the power to recall memories...". Research shows that in order to
remember anything, the fives senses must pick up our experiences. Smell is one of the most
effective senses that reminds us of past experiences. The reason for that it is because the olfactory
part of the brain which processes smells are go through the part of the brain that is connected to the
amygdala and the hippocampus where memory and emotions are processed. In the book, Walk Two

I like the spicy soup, but more specifically, the spicy smell of the hot pot that will stick to my
clothes and the room for days. The strong spicy smell was permeating the room as it took me back
to the summer when I was in China eating the same hot pot with my father. That night the table was
filled with shrimp, lamb, beef, fishy meatballs, potatoes and cabbage. I was sitting across from my
father waiting for the spicy soup to boil. This was my last meal in China. The next morning, I would
be heading to Los Angles and without seeing my dad for four years. The soup was warm and
comforting, but the air around me felt cold and depressing. Finally, the soup started to boil. My dad
began to place all the meats into the soup. The air was getting colder, even though the soup was still
boiling. I felt wet drops of water on my cheeks. I put my head down. "Are you ok?", my dad asked.
"Yea, yea, don't worry, its just the soup is too spicy." I answered. Suddenly, I was at home in Irvine
looking across the table at my brother playing on the IPad. My father was no where to be seen and
the apartment was quiet. Currently, the smell of the hot pot has become symbolic of my connection

Walk Two Moons Chapters 1–11 Answers
1. The reasons Gramps and Sal's father give Sal for going on the trip are seeing the country helping
Gramps and Gram with reading maps, and keeping them in line. In Walk Two Moons, it states,
"Gramps had said, "We'll see the whole ding–dong country!"' (pg. 4), "My father said that Gram
couldn't read maps worth a hill of beans, and that he was grateful that I had agreed to go along and
help them find their way." (pg. 4–5), and "Dad did not trust Gram and Gramps to behave themselves
along the way unless they had me with them." (pg. 5). However, according to Sal, the real reasons
were that Gram, Gramps, and Sal wanted to see Sal's mother in Lewiston, Idaho, and Sal's dad
wanted to spend time with Margaret Cadaver, because he had already seen Sal's mother. In Walk
Two Moons, it states, "Some of the real reasons were: 1. Gram and Gramps wanted to see Momma,
who was resting peacefully in Lewiston, Idaho. 2. Gram and Gramps knew that I wanted to see
Momma, but that I was afraid to. 3. Dad wanted to be alone with the red–headed Margaret Cadaver.
He had already seen Momma, and he had not taken me." (pg. 5) This shows that there are many

Sal's mother has most likely died. In Walk Two Moons, it states, "On the night we got the bad news–

The Rise of Cult Activity Essay
The Rise of Cult Activity
Cult activity has been on the rise over the past few decades. With it there has been an increase in the
fear surrounding it. From this fear, society has learned much about cults, how they get members and
what to look out for as far as cult recruiters go. Society as a whole has also learned what can be done
to deal with cults. Cult activity and the fear that surrounds it
Throughout the last couple of decades more and more stories of illegal cult activity or murders by
satanic cults appear on the news each night. This surge of reported cult activity has caused a spark in

It was in February of 1970 that the motive of these murders was discovered (Bugliosi, 1974, 283).
Through police investigation, it was discovered that the murders were cult related. Charles Manson
and members of his cult, known as "The Family," were to blame. Manson and family lived on a
ranch in California. Manson was an avid fan of The Beatles and believed that this rock band spoke
to him though their lyrics. He particularly liked The Beatles' White Album which included the song
"Helter Skelter." Manson interpreted this song's lyrics as a prophecy of a race war that would take
place between the blacks and the whites. In this war, he believed the black man would rise up and
slaughter all of the whites. So Manson's plan was to take his family out into the desert and hide in a
bottomless pit until the war was over. After the war, he believed the blacks would realize all they
ever knew was taught to them by the white man, and if they wanted to survive, they would need a
white person to tell them what to do. That is when Manson and his Family would surface from the
bottomless pit, and be the rulers of the world as the master race (Bugliosi, 1974, 284–290).
The only problem with Manson's prophecy was that Helter Skelter never came. So he sent Family
members out to kill Sharon Tate and friends and instructed them to make it appear as if the blacks

Walk Two Moon Plot
The Plot and Subplot of Walk Two Moons
The novel Walk Two Moons shows many subplots and stories, however one is focused on much
more than any of the others. This subplot shows Sal's story in Ohio, about her friends, about a
woman with wild red hair, and about a lunatic.
Sal says that the story starts when her father unexpectedly makes sal go along with him to Euclid
Ohio. They stop in front of a house and her father explains that this is where Margaret lives. Sal says
she then sees a face in a window, a girls face. This is where her adventure begins, a tragic,
wonderful, life–changing adventure. Sal explains that Phoebe's story is in many ways the same as
hers. She says that "Beneath Phoebe's story was another one. Mine." (Creech, 3). ... Show more

In the story, it is shown that Phoebe's mother leaves her family, just like Sal's. It is told that Phoebe's
mother left for a reason similar to Salamanca's. As Sal's mother left because she felt she wasn't good
enough for her husband and daughter, Phoebe's mother left because she felt she lived an
insignificant life. Both of them left because they believed it would be better for her families. Both of
their families felt different than they did.
Phoebe believes that this is because of the "lunatic". Later, when sal and Phoebe go to find the
lunatic, they see him with Phoebe's mother. At the end of the book, sal expresses that she is jealous
because Phoebe found her mother, and she did not find hers.
Sal once again shows how both of the two stories tie together in the end in the chapter "Bybanks".
She says, "My mother's story was behind Phoebe's" (Creech, 260). This helps us to understand that
both of these stories are in many ways the same. Another example is how both stories focus largely

Research Paper On Charles Manson Family Cult
Charles Manson, who died on November 19, 2017 aged 83, was the leader of the Manson Family
cult, located in Los Angeles, California in the late 1960's.
This was a non– religious cult but had some beliefs within scientology and satanism. Charles
Manson believed that there was to be a race war in America in the near future and that the African
Americans would win, but then look to the Whites for guidance. This then lead Manson and his one
hundred plus followers, mostly young women, to attempt to instigate this war so that they could be
prepared and hide away until the African Americans won, and then the "family" would be the ones
the African Americans would turn to for leadership (The 10 Most Famous Cults, 2017).

Most Dangerous Cult Research Paper
Did you know that America is home to come of the most dangerous cults in history? Cults began in
America as early as the 1930s, and they still exist today! By definition, "a cult is any group which
employs mind control and deceptive recruiting techniques" (How Cults Work). Although people
may know what a cult it, they may not know how potentially dangerous a cult is.
Cults can be evil and mind controlling. They can also be extremely dangerous. According to Rick
Ross, an expert consultant and intervention specialist, "there are several signs of a potentially unsafe
group or leader." These signs include: "absolute authoritarianism without meaningful accountability;
there is no legitimate reason to leave, former followers are always wrong in leaving, negative or
even evil; followers can never be good enough; and the group or leader is the exclusive means of
knowing the truth or receiving validation, no other process or discovery is really acceptable or
credible." Cult leaders use mind control to control their group. This could be dangerous or life

The Purpose Of The Hippie Movement
The Hippie Movement began in the 1960's and is viewed as a resistance towards mainstream
America as a whole. The movement was a response to the United States involvement in the Vietnam
War. The Hippie Movement initially blossomed on college campuses in the United States and
continued spreading abroad to parts of Europe and Canada ("Hippie Subculture"). Throughout the
decades, the purpose of the Hippie Movement has changed, and its prominence has decreased. This
movement began in the 1960's with the intention of bringing social change. Today, the Hippie
Movement is practiced to find a sense of identity. The Hippie Movement's exact purpose has
changed throughout several years, and today the meaning of the movement is rapidly fading.
In the 1960's, the Hippie Movement was lead by Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, and during this
time one of the primary purposes was to separate hippies who were, followers of the Hippie
Movement, from the mainstream materialistic society in the United States to establish social change.
("Hippie Subculture"). The followers of the Hippie Movement otherwise known as hippies have,
"Evolved from the beats of the 1950's and the bohemians of the decades before that, but it would be
hard to see them as coalescing into anything that amounted to a distinct social movement before
about 1966" ("Families and Communes" 87). Hippies preached love and were against violence.

Analysis Of Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech
Why do people spend time worrying about things in the past, when they have so much future ahead
of them? In the award winning novel, Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, a letter is dropped off on
the Winterbottom's front porch from an anonymous person: "In the course of a lifetime, what does it
matter?" Using this metaphor, Creech tries to show us that some things in life matter, and some
things don't. It's such a short life, and it is important not to waste it worrying about events that
occurred in the past and do not matter. However, some things such as losing a loved one will affect a

Sharon Creech develops the theme through the character's feelings, words, and thoughts. When
Phoebe said, "She is so convinced that any day one of them will burst into the house with a gun and

External Forces To Change In Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech
A.J. Lawless once said, "Catch on fire if you must, sometimes everything needs to burn to the

external changes that make her lose everything so, that she can build it all back up again the way she

One of the most significant external forces that cause Sal to change is when her Grams dies because
her Grams is a big part of Sal's life. Sal's Gram is taking her on a road trip to go see her mom.
However, when her Grams dies by a poisonous snake in the water and other things that added to it.

This lunatic has been leaving notes around Phoebe's house saying little messages like themes or life

" Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins," ( page 43). Sal was fine
going over to Phoebe and hanging out and going on miny adventures with her, but soon after the
lunatic came and put these notes Sal and Phoebe started to wonder who could of placed them and
started to freak out a little bit and so did the mom. Also what made this more believable is that the

Analysis Of ' Walk Two Moons ' By Sharon Creech
4 Walk Two Moons Expository Essay4
4 In the Novel Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, the character Salamanca has had internal and
external forces that has affected Sal, Phoebe, and Margaret. In the book, Walk Two Moons
Salamanca has faced many challenges internal and external forces, and we are going to take a look
to see these forces, so put on your seatbelt and get ready for the journey. 4 4First we are going to
talk about how Salamanca's Forces have affected Phoebe. "I didn't know it then, but that girl's face
belonged to Phoebe Winterbottom, a girl who had a powerful imagination, who would become my
friend, and who would have many peculiar things happen to her."(Creech 2) Let me explain, She
met Phoebe Winterbottom an external ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next Evidence,"The longer I stared up at the leaves, the more it seemed the tree itself was singing."
When Sal was visiting her mother she saw this "singing tree" which is an external force that makes
her think back to her childhood.
This piece of evidence is an amazing one that I could talk about for hours "Some of the cement
grouting between the bricks had to de replaced, and he wrote her name in the new cement. He wrote
Chanhassen, not sugar" This is not only an external force for Sal it's also an internal force, not only
was it an actual cement wall that would haunt Sal forever but also a touching piece to Sal's life.
In peroration there isn't only external forces but a lot of internal forces that affect Salamanca.4
Now for the final character Margaret Cadaver, which is honestly the most important character in the
novel, first the portrayed antagonist but then the protagonist.
This piece of evidence is when she was the antagonist "I plunged on. I didn 't want him to explain. I
wanted to warn him. 'Phoebe and I saw her slashing and hacking away at the bushes in her
backyard. ' 'Is there

Theme Of Walk Two Moon
Thesis Statement: Three major themes that show up throughout the book Walk Two Moons by
Sharon Creech, are you never know the worth of water in until the well is dry, as well as, sometimes

said, "Do not judge my story by the chapter you walked in on" This can so easily be connected with

All three of these themes really helps you go in depth into the story. You realize how many times
each of these pop up, which events they popped up in, and how important those events even were.
We see you never know the worth of water until the well is dry with Sal as well as Phoebe, maybe
even Mrs.Cadaver. When Sal's mom leaves because she feels rotten in comparison to Sal's father, we
find this is a major event because we now have an insight as to why she left, she didn't feel perfect,
even though she was only human. Sal accepting her mother death was a terrible thing in her life, yet
she had to and was also a key event in the story. These themes can all easily be integrated into our
modern day society. Such as when you lose a relative, you have to accept their death even if you
desperately don't want to or when said family member dies you don't realize how much they mean to
you. Or with all the stereotypes and expectations we sometimes forget that we're all only human.
Tell people close to you you love them, you'll never know when you'll lose them. Make sure they
know you appreciate them, but most of all, always know that nobody's

Theme Of Walk Two Moon By Sharon Creech

  • 1. Theme Of Walk Two Moon By Sharon Creech "Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins," –Sharon Creech. Sals development through her life was mainly because of the points in her life where she accepted a challenge instead of denying it. In Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, the author develops the theme of acceptance through Sals characterization, internal and external conflict, and the plot of the story. During the story, Sals characterization contributes to the author's theme of acceptance. The author uses Sal's characterization to express her feelings when she says, "I did not think we would ever leave, and yet I did not want to leave. I did not really expect to survive the trip," (Creech 6). When Sal says this she is showing that she didn't want to go because her dad wasn't going with her. Sal had to accept that she had to go on the trip with or without her father. The author also shows acceptance when she says, "One day I realized that our whole trip to Lewiston had been a gift from Gram ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The plot of the story is described when the it says, "I stood beneath that tree for the longest time, hoping to catch sight of the bird who was singing such song. There was no bird," (93). Sal had to realize that there was no bird which conveyed the plot to the reader. Sal expresses the plot again when she says, "When I walk in her moccasins, though, I say, if I were my mother, I might want more children," (264). Sal is putting herself in someone else's shoes which was a plot to the story. She also expresses what she would do and her feelings. Sal shows the theme through the plot when she says, "I looked up at where her mouth must have touched the trunk. I probably imagined this, but I thought I could detect a small dark stain, as from a blackberry kiss," (122). One of the plots was the blackberry kiss, and Sal is describing the tree and the stain. When Kathy Maddox was arrested and imprisoned in 1940 for an armed robbery, 6–year old Manson was sent to live with his grandparents who were perceived as overly obsessive religious fanatics. According to Hickey (2003), Manson's grandmother dominated the household with both a stern and unwavering interpretation of what she believed to be "God's plan and some of her strictly religious practices included intense prayer sessions both before and after meals, as well as at bedtime. There was no drinking, smoking, or swearing allowed, and Manson was told to turn the other cheek to any violent or aggressive act initiated by some of the other kids at school. His grandmother also demanded that everyone living in her house must abide by her rules or else suffer the consequences, and this included her own husband as well. As Hickey (2003) explains, Manson "never witnessed any display of affection between his grandparents. His grandfather was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adler's theory of individual personality doesn't necessarily account for individuals with two unique sides personality, which is evident throughout the context and background of his life. On one hand, he was a magnetic and loving person that drew in others with his intelligence and self–proclaimed talent. On the other hand, the persona he presented to others was not his true self. Deep within the depths of Manson's charming personality hides a villain, a manipulator, a criminal, and a murderer. In addition to the many lies that he has told about both himself and his life, as well as the manipulative behavior he displays, it's exceptionally hard to decipher what is fact and what is just simply untrue, making the application of any psychological theory nearly impossible. Post Modernism And Its Influence On Society Post–modernism came about in the late–20th century following modernism, which was a period where people had a new found freedom to follow their own path in life, whether it was religion, science, philosophy, art, or really anything they put their mind to as opposed to strictly traditional beliefs. Writers could express their emotions more easily without really feeling a backlash from what everyone else thought. Two female writers who were able to freely express themselves in their writing during post–modernism were Linda Pastan and Sharon Olds. Linda Pastan talked more about her life in general like every day anxieties, her marriage, parenting, and even grief. However, Sharon Olds was a little more controversial in her writing since she often talked about sexuality and violence. Their writing styles were similar in the aspect that they both enjoyed writing based on their own lives, but still very different on how they talked about certain subject matter. Even with different approaches, these two authors were still both very influential on others who wanted to share the same dream. Both authors have had similar educational backgrounds and writing recognition. Pastan Was raised in New York City and attended Radcliffe College. After her graduation, she decided to focus her life on her family and did not return to writing until 10 years later when she was encouraged by her husband to do so. • 9. Character Analysis Of Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech Walk Two Moons written by Sharon Creech was first published in 1994. This story occurs during 1990's. While Sal is very active. Phoebe is another main character, she is crazy with her ideas. Phoebe has a sister named Prudence. She is just in love with cheerleading and doesn't care about her family. Mr. Hiddle told the relationship between Cadaver and him to Sal. Of course our narrator was mad, but she thought about her dad. She didn't want to lose her dad also. She wanted him to be happy, so she let it go. Ben and Sal are so close to each other now. I can't even describe the relationship. Sal likes the grapefruit smell of his hair, and Ben likes her in everything. Ben is a nice drawer and a nice kisser by the way. Everyday Gram and Gramps make troubles, but it's better than before. Everyone knows that a person's characteristic can never change. Also, now we can see some smiles from Sal and Phoebe. • 11. Themes In Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech Do you know what it's like to feel abandoned? In the book Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech there are a lot of themes like independency, family and many others. The ones that I like the most that I feel are the best and most represented are, motherhood and abandonment. I feel like in the book Sal is the most affected by these themes. On the start of the book Sal and her father moved to Euclid, Ohio after her mother's death. Dagan and his family lived in the USSR until 1950 when they relocated to Bat Yam, Israel. His family lived in Bat Yam and operated a Laundromat. Dagan studied painting and sculpture at Tel Aviv University. In 1963, as is customary in Israel, Dagan was conscripted into the Israeli Defense Forces at the age of eighteen. Sharon, intent on destroying external threats to Israel, gave Dagan a mandate to hunt down the enemies of Israel abroad. Dagan's first test came in November 2002 when an Israeli–owned hotel in Nairobi, Kenya was bombed by Al–Qaeda. Dagan deployed his a squad of his elite hit team known as the Kidon to find and kill the perpetrators. Dagan's team traveled from Kenya to Morocco to Iraq, killing every major member of the terrorist plot at each stop. Following this enormous success, Sharon gave Dagan free rein to eliminate threats to Israel abroad using whatever means necessary. In fact, under Dagan, the Mossad tripled recruitment and used his connections with his allies in the Knesset to increase funding to almost $350 million dollars annually, much of which went from traditional intelligence and analysis to field operations and "special tasks". Ehud Yatom, member of the Knesset Subcommittee of Secret Services wrote, "... I can say this with complete authority: The Mossad under Meir Dagan has undergone a revolution in terms of organization, intelligence and operations." Dagan has focused Mossad's operations almost entirely on two objectives: preemptively neutralizing anti–Israeli terrorists, especially those of Hezbollah and Hamas and sabotaging Iran's nuclear program. In both cases, according to former Labor Party Chairman, Amram Mitzna, Dagan has proved successful: "Israel is enjoying unprecedented happiness because of Meir." • 17. To Kill A Mockingbird Character Analysis "Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins." This is a common Native American proverb, and also a quote from the book Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech. This is telling you to look at a situation from someone else's point of view before making a decision. By doing this, you become inadvertently more sympathetic and compassionate towards other people. Many times in To Kill a Mockingbird, the main characters: Scout, Jem, and Atticus, look at something from another person's shoes. On page 30, Atticus gives Scout this advice and at first she doesn't understand it. As the book progresses, she sees the meaning of his words and becomes more sympathetic as a result. Some cases of these three characters taking this advice are the interactions between Jem and Ms. Dubose, Atticus talking to Jem about the snowman that Jem made, and at the very end when Scout walks Boo Radley back to his house after the night when Jem broke his arm. In the novel and the film, the character Ms. Dubose was an ill, as in sick, ill, as in ill–tempered, and old, as in very very old woman who lived on the street that Scout and Jem lived on. Her house was several down and across from them, but the two kids still had to pass it every time they went to school or town. The old lady would always shout out at them, berating them for what seemed like everything. They both would become very angry or possibly scared or nervous by certain things she said. • 19. Important Settings In Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech Important Settings for Sal "... I am a country girl at heart... and brave." (Creech pg 1 and 12) This is how Sharon Creech, author of Walk Two Moons develops her main character, Sal. The protagonist in the story resists, travels, and returns to bybanks. With all of this, this helps Sal to grow throughout the novel. In the beginning, Euclid Ohio represents all things different and new to Sal, her new everyday normal without her mom.Sal explains at the beginning of the story "No trees... this is where we're going to live?" (Creech pg 1) Euclid differs from Bybanks because Euclid has no trees, and the houses squish together. Sal misses all these things which shows the difference from Euclid to Bybanks. Another important setting in Ohio ly's Phoebe's house "... I sat down at the table. What I started doing was remembering the day before my mother left." (Creech pg 97) When Sal goes to Phoebe's house in Euclid, she starts realizing things about her mom and how she took her mom for granted. Gender Roles In Childrens Literature Essay Gender Bias in Literature I have thought about many different ways to organize this paper and have come to the conclusion that the best way to approach the topic is on a book–by–book basis. My perceptions of the gender biases in these books vary greatly and I did not want to begin altering my views on each so that they would fit into certain contrived connections. What interests me most in these stories is how the authors utilize certain character's within their given environment. Their instincts and reactions are a wonderful window into how the authors perceive these "people" would interact with their surroundings and often are either rewarded or punished by the author through consequences in the plot for ... They did not turn to the only woman present at the camp, nor the man who disciplines them each day, to fill their maternal needs. Instead they turn to the weakest figure in their lives and mock him by referring to him as a woman. This demonstrates to us that Sachar considers femininity a weakness in this world and has no issues showing us. As Ernst wrote, "How easy is it to relegate girls to second class citizens when they are seen as second–class citizens, or not at all" (Ernst 67). This point is only furthered by the fact that the only woman present is such a fairy tale character. She is portrayed to us as all but a sorceress and it can be assumed she has taken on this persona in order to survive in a predominately male post in a totally male dominated environment. Even in our class it was evident that many readers were taken aback by the fact that Sachar chose to make his warden a female. And so it again can be seen that Sachar has imparted onto us a bias that a real woman could not function in this world so he had to invent a completely fictional and grandiose one. With all the other characters in the book appearing so human, it seems obvious he turned the warden into a beast because he felt he had to. Sal moved away from her home, in Bybanks which she adored very much. But what were the reasons? In "Walk Two Moons," Sharon Creech uses settings that show significance to the protagonist Sal, by connecting it to how long she's lived there, features of the setting, and her loved ones. For example, "My father and I are living on our farm again, and Gramps is living with us, Gram is buried in the aspen grove where she and Gramps were married" (Creech, 260). Undeniably, this quote states the fact that one of Sal's loved ones is buried near her, in Bybanks. Therefore, the fact that Grams is buried in Bybanks, it's natural for Sal to feel more connected to the environment around her. Moreover, another quote, "We miss our gooseberry everyday" (Creech, 260). First of all, this quote appears to be quite straightforward, but it's very critical. It shows how Sal feels about one of her family members passing away. But the reader can infer, that by Sal being in Bybanks is a way to make her feel closer to her beloved Gram. Also, "Gramps is different. He needs Gram right here. He needs to walk out to that aspen grove to see his gooseberry" (Creech, 262). Evidently, this quote is also pretty crucial. The people around her (Gramps) are also affected by Gram's passing. And needs her near to feel better about that fact. Gramps feels safer when Grams is buried where he is near, and it's natural to overlap feelings. As a result of these pieces of evidence, Bybanks is important to Sal, because it is where some of her family is buried, and she feels more connected to the environment because of ... • 35. The Cliffhanger In Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech I. Cliffhanger: a cliffhanger in literature is a device, borrowed from early serialized film, in which a writer ends a chapter on a note of suspense, encouraging the reader to continue on to the next chapter. What is the cliffhanger at the end of Chapter Thirty–One? In the novel Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech the author ends Chapter Thirty–One with a cliffhanger. The protagonist, Sal calls her friend and tells her "Phoebe, we've got to find her." and Phoebe replies "That's what I've been telling you." (pg. 132). This is a cliffhanger because the author stops the chapter in the middle of the conversation without the reader finding out what Sal and Phoebe are going to do to find Phoebe's mother. II. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was in February of 1970 that the motive of these murders was discovered (Bugliosi, 1974, 283). Through police investigation, it was discovered that the murders were cult related. Charles Manson and members of his cult, known as "The Family," were to blame. Manson and family lived on a ranch in California. Manson was an avid fan of The Beatles and believed that this rock band spoke to him though their lyrics. He particularly liked The Beatles' White Album which included the song "Helter Skelter." Manson interpreted this song's lyrics as a prophecy of a race war that would take place between the blacks and the whites. In this war, he believed the black man would rise up and slaughter all of the whites. So Manson's plan was to take his family out into the desert and hide in a bottomless pit until the war was over. After the war, he believed the blacks would realize all they ever knew was taught to them by the white man, and if they wanted to survive, they would need a white person to tell them what to do. That is when Manson and his Family would surface from the bottomless pit, and be the rulers of the world as the master race (Bugliosi, 1974, 284–290). The only problem with Manson's prophecy was that Helter Skelter never came. So he sent Family members out to kill Sharon Tate and friends and instructed them to make it appear as if the blacks ... • 47. Walk Two Moon Plot The Plot and Subplot of Walk Two Moons The novel Walk Two Moons shows many subplots and stories, however one is focused on much more than any of the others. This subplot shows Sal's story in Ohio, about her friends, about a woman with wild red hair, and about a lunatic. Sal says that the story starts when her father unexpectedly makes sal go along with him to Euclid Ohio. They stop in front of a house and her father explains that this is where Margaret lives. Sal says she then sees a face in a window, a girls face. This is where her adventure begins, a tragic, wonderful, life–changing adventure. Sal explains that Phoebe's story is in many ways the same as hers. She says that "Beneath Phoebe's story was another one. Mine." (Creech, 3). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the story, it is shown that Phoebe's mother leaves her family, just like Sal's. It is told that Phoebe's mother left for a reason similar to Salamanca's. As Sal's mother left because she felt she wasn't good enough for her husband and daughter, Phoebe's mother left because she felt she lived an insignificant life. Both of them left because they believed it would be better for her families. Both of their families felt different than they did. Phoebe believes that this is because of the "lunatic". Later, when sal and Phoebe go to find the lunatic, they see him with Phoebe's mother. At the end of the book, sal expresses that she is jealous because Phoebe found her mother, and she did not find hers. Sal once again shows how both of the two stories tie together in the end in the chapter "Bybanks". She says, "My mother's story was behind Phoebe's" (Creech, 260). This helps us to understand that both of these stories are in many ways the same. Another example is how both stories focus largely on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By definition, "a cult is any group which employs mind control and deceptive recruiting techniques" (How Cults Work). Although people may know what a cult it, they may not know how potentially dangerous a cult is. Cults can be evil and mind controlling. They can also be extremely dangerous. According to Rick Ross, an expert consultant and intervention specialist, "there are several signs of a potentially unsafe group or leader." These signs include: "absolute authoritarianism without meaningful accountability; there is no legitimate reason to leave, former followers are always wrong in leaving, negative or even evil; followers can never be good enough; and the group or leader is the exclusive means of knowing the truth or receiving validation, no other process or discovery is really acceptable or credible." The movement was a response to the United States involvement in the Vietnam War. The Hippie Movement initially blossomed on college campuses in the United States and continued spreading abroad to parts of Europe and Canada ("Hippie Subculture"). Throughout the decades, the purpose of the Hippie Movement has changed, and its prominence has decreased. This movement began in the 1960's with the intention of bringing social change. Today, the Hippie Movement is practiced to find a sense of identity. The Hippie Movement's exact purpose has changed throughout several years, and today the meaning of the movement is rapidly fading. In the 1960's, the Hippie Movement was lead by Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, and during this time one of the primary purposes was to separate hippies who were, followers of the Hippie Movement, from the mainstream materialistic society in the United States to establish social change.
