African American Ethnic Diversity
KC is a public charter school located in Kennesaw, GA that employees approximately 62 full time
teachers for 870 students. The grade levels range from K–4, which gives the school, a significantly
lower than national average, teacher–student ratio of 14:1. The school has a good balance in male
versus female attendance with male attendance at 49% and females at 51%.
There is a significant difference in ethnic diversity versus a typical public school system in Georgia.
At KC 46.5% of the student population is African American (Kennesaw, GA public school average
is 23.2%) 32% of the students are Caucasian, 5.5% Hispanic, 8.5% Asian, 5.6% are at least two
races or more and less than 1% of the student population is made up of American Indian or ... Show

None of them could sit straight for more than 10 seconds. It is amazing how a teacher can actually
see the physical development of these students taking place. While some of the students were easily
engaged in the lesson plan about 50% of the class could not focus or stop talking for more than a
few minutes. It might have been the fact that it was Friday, or that I was there.
Our class information and materials completely support and enrich this field experience. I know one
thing for sure is I am going to start my classroom management plan right now ~ starting with
behavioral management!
I believe that any graduating teacher that attempt to go into a classroom as a teacher must have a
management strategy in place and completely organized before attempting any learning. Students
will push our buttons and I feel it is important for the students to respect and fear the teacher
because otherwise the students will gain complete control of the classroom. I cannot tell you how
many times my CT had to hush the students and two minutes later she was hushing them again.
Without classroom management all teachers will eventually

Diversity And America’S Social Debt With Ethnic Minorities.
Diversity and America's social debt with ethnic minorities The Fifth Amendment of the Bill of
Rights (1791) included in the Constitution of the Unites States (US) declares that "No person shall
be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be
taken for public use, without just compensation." Later, President Roosevelt during his campaign
address of October 13, 1932, certainly stated that the "government is responsible for its citizens '
welfare." Recently, Rabbi Greg Harris in a recent lecture at the National Defense University
declared that "the majorities should protect the rights of minorities." Based on these assertions, it is
possible to infer that historically, since the birth of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Native Americans became an obstacle to the expansionist desires of the colonists in the US. As the
economic interaction with Britain and Europe in general increased in the late 1800s and early 1900s,
the necessity of extending the ownership of lands to the west became a priority for the US
Government, which found in the tribal communities an easy target to expropriate. Native Americans
were forced to displace their families, belongings, and with them, their culture. A fierce movement
of resistance emerged from the dispossessed tribal communities to defend their traditions and people
against the greedy intentions of the US federal government. In this regard, King states that "the U.S.
government committed atrocities and genocide against the Native people for the purpose of
obliterating them in order to take claim to their lands." It could be said that the Indian courage and
honor were not powerful enough to fight well–equipped and organized US troops who legitimized
their struggle by denaturing and degrading Indians in the eyes of society. Since then, those Native
Americans were forced to abandon their lands to live in reduced territories where the absence of
official interest for relating or exposing their internal displacement has prevailed up to date. As
stated by Gonzalez, "Whites deliberately

The Causes Of Ethnic Diversity In The United Kingdom
Ethnic Diversity in United Kingdom Immigrants, are they really the bad people or are you? Some
say immigrants affected the ethnic diversity. Culture, language, and religion are different in many
ethnic groups, it's amazing on how many different things you can learn. Is it vital that the migration
that happened during the late 19th century has led to an effect amongst the ethnic diversity in the
United Kingdom? In this paper internet sources contained many more accurate information. Books
talked very little about ethnic diversity in United Kingdom. In addition to talking about the 19th
century immigrant the internet had many sources that talked about it. Books contained information
but very information about each ethnic group. Using the internet went into more details about each
ethnic group. It was easier finding more information on the internet than the books. Finding
information in books never change but on the internet the information can be updated. These sources
contained information about the British Asians,Africans,White European,Mexicans, and immigrants.
Using the internet over books gather more information about ethnic groups and immigrants.
Before we begin, it is important to understand a few key terms related to our studies: ethnic
diversity, ethnic groups, and cultural diversity. Ethnic diversity can mean different things in varying
contexts. It means races from around the world just different in language and skin tone. Examples of

With the increasing presence of globalisation and rapid emergence of new markets, entrepreneurship
is becoming more prevalent. According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), there is
usually high Total Entrepreneurial Activity (TEA) in countries like Australia, Canada and United
States, whereas there is low TEA in Norway and United Kingdom . Generally, entrepreneurship can
be defined as "a purposeful activity to initiate, maintain and develop a profit–orientated business" .
However, for one to succeed as an entrepreneur, they must go beyond the 'norm' and differentiate
themselves from other competing entrepreneurs; this may be achieved by embracing both social and
ethnic diversity. Social diversity refers to the different factors that set individuals apart in a society
like gender, age or religion, whereas ethnic diversity looks at different ethnic groups and cultures .
This report will first look at how ethnic diversity contributes to the development of an entrepreneur,
and the limitations to this using Hofstede's framework. It will also look at social diversity and
entrepreneurship, particularly focusing on gender. Finally, the report will conclude whether social
and ethnic diversity may be beneficial to entrepreneurship and development in general overall.
It can be argued that ethnic diversity helps with the advancement of an entrepreneur. As the
foundations of good entrepreneurship lie within producing unique and innovative ideas,

The Importance Of Culture And Ethnic Diversity
One's environment has a huge impact on the person's morals and upbringing. The culture that
surrounds individuals allows and leads these individuals to join a specific social status or class. A
person's goals and aspirations can be attributed to the individuals that person surrounds themselves
with. Culture and ethnic diversity leads one to have different religious, linguistic, and social
background. The human race is so diverse and interesting due to the ethnical diversity that surrounds
us. Different regions in the United States acquire different mindsets, food preferences, and everyday
lifestyles. Living in a single place for one's whole life can limit that person's knowledge of other
cultures and ethnicities around the world. Where a person is from can strongly influence their
morals and viewpoints. Rural and farm areas place a large emphasis on hard work, family heritage,
and love for the land. Farming is an occupation that is often passed down generation to generation.
Because of this birthright, farming families have a large amount of love and respect for their
farmland. Another common characteristic of farmers is their love and passion for the environment
and their products. Lloyd Fuller, an extremely hardworking man, spends his whole life dedicated to
his potato farm land that resides in Idaho. All of his time and hard work is devoted to his farm land
and he would do anything to protect it. In the book, the majority of famers are using genetically

Inequities Of Diversity
Yes, I said it. These four words are coming from the mouth of a progressive, African American male
that has lived in the South for all my life. A life where I've observed and challenged the inequities of
ethnicity, gender and religion in multiple layers of leadership in Corporate America. And now, at the
turn of the century as the demographics of our nation has become more and more diverse, so much
so that many predict that by 2050, the United States will become a majority–minority (non–white)
population, people are still calling for more diversity.
I get it. We need more diversity in our positions of leadership, emerging industries like tech and
healthcare, education in order to better meet the needs of the diverse populations being served. ...

The event was well attended, to near capacity, by people from all walks of life, including local
officials, community leaders, teachers, blue collars, laypersons. These folks were black, brown,
white, male, and female, from various socio–economic and religious backgrounds. As the program
neared its end, after a captivating keynote charge, then came the portion that would finally get
people to interact and engage – the entertainment! Personally for me, I was looking forward to this.
The muscles of my lower body were approaching atrophy, after sitting in stasis for almost 2 hours. I
needed the circulation, but also I wanted to meet and interact with so many of the new faces that
were across the room. Moments after the closing address, the Mistress of Ceremony announced the
band and gave instructions on where everyone was to go, to either dance, mingle and/or get a
beverage. As I walked closer to the adjacent room, I paused after hearing sounds of music that was
very unfamiliar. It sounded like the chords from a banjo, complimented by music that echoed Dixie.
I gave it the benefit of the doubt, that maybe this was just 1 song, so I proceeded to mingle with the
board members and staff of the organization. This attempt was stymied by their obvious
enthrallment with key dignitaries and acquaintances that they apparently knew or had a familiar
relationship with. I managed to squeeze in a half–hearted, brief "Hello, my name is" introduction
with the CEO and after 20 minutes, the music selection didn't change. I took a moment to
consciously look at the rest of the crowd and it looked very different from those that initially
followed me to this venue. What happened to the diversity, the youth and multi–ethnic advocates
that I'd presume were looking to have fun, exchange names or get that blood

Diversity Is Becoming More And More Important As Years Go
The concept of diversity is becoming more and more important as years go by. This concept is not as
easy as it may appear; diversity is not just about acceptance and respect. Understanding what
diversity is means understanding that each person is unique; it means understanding and recognising
our differences; moreover, moving beyond differences of gender, race, age, religious beliefs and
political beliefs. Understanding and managing diversity is trying to make sure that all those
differences fit together like pieces of a mosaic. The concept is extremely important in today's
society, following everything that has been happening related to this matter. We consider ourselves a
tolerant and evolved society; yet we still hear of people of colour discriminated and killed everyday,
we still hear of women living in horrible conditions, deprived of their dignity and sold as slaves. It
appears obvious so, that diversity has to be taken into consideration when we talk about
organisations. Everything that is happening in the world is reflected into firms too; organizations
are, in fact, part of a wider social system.
That is why managing diversity is possibly one of the hardest challenges that managers have to face
in today's world. This essay is going to examine the concept of diversity in organisations today, why
we have to consider it important and what kinds of advantages companies receive. Moreover, the
essay will focus on gender diversity showing that even a lot of efforts still

Racial And Ethnic Diversity Within The United States
Racial and ethnic diversity within the United States has grown rapidly over the last several years and
is expected to continue to grow. According to Pardasani & Bandyopadhyay (2014), "racial/ethnic
minorities, now roughly one–third of the U.S. population, are expected to become the majority in
2042, with the nation projected to be 54 percent non Caucasian" (p. 90). Nurses are caring for
patients who come from diverse racial, ethnic, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds in health
care settings across the United States. Therefore, it is the nurse 's responsibility to provide culturally
competent care to patients, in turn providing high quality care. According to deChesnay and
Anderson (2016), cultural competence is a way of providing care that takes into account cultural
differences between the nurse and the patient, while meeting the health needs of the patient" (p. 33).
It 's an ongoing process for nurses, which involves accepting and respecting cultural differences and
not letting your own personal views and beliefs influence how you care for your patients. There are
many ways to provide culturally competent care to patients, especially those from vulnerable
populations. According to Douglas et al. (2014), guidelines for providing culturally competent
nursing care include having knowledge of cultures, obtaining education and training in culturally
competent care, performing critical self–reflection, providing cross cultural communication,
advocating for patients

If anyone would have told me while I was an undergraduate student that I would be applying to a
social work program for my Masters, I simply would have chuckled and said to myself, "No way".
At that time, I did not have a complete understanding of all of the aspects social work encompassed
(and the many pathways it could take a person down). Regardless of which career path, social
workers are aiming for social and economic justice, leading to greater social welfare and social
change. Social work aims to help those who face various hardships due to situational, cultural,
ethnic diversity, and intellectual abilities. I have come to look at social justice similarly to the
American philosopher John Rawls. Like Rawls, I believe social justice ... Show more content on

I look at these people and ask myself, "What can society do to help them? What can I do to help
them? What resources are available to them? How can we meet these people in the position they are
and help them overcome?" These questions draw me to social work, and being part of a culture that
promotes social change. By asking these questions, researching, involvement, and learning the needs
of specific populations, we can search for solutions to the injustices these groups face. We can then
work to achieve social change. We can work to improve our social institutions, social behaviors, and
social relations. The people I love should not be deprived because of who they are or their financial
despair – no one should. The opportunity for a better life should be made available to those who
need it most. On a personal level, as recently as last year, found myself in therapy trying to better
my life to overcome the mental disadvantage of depression. I feel lucky to have had the means to
receive treatment for myself, but not everyone has the same advantage. I recently saw a cartoon
illustration of "Equality Vs. Equity." Three men of different heights are each standing behind a fence

Racial And Ethnic Diversity
How do you envision the racial and ethnic diversity of the United States thirty years from now?
Explain thoroughly. In today society, racial and ethnic diversity is an everyday thing in the United
States. Racial diversity can be seen in workplace, schools, and etc. When it comes to the future of
America people say immigrants are it. The percentage of immigrants that has entered the United
States has continued to rise everyday now. Immigrants has begun to premaster English as their
second language. Racial Diversity has been a big issue when it comes to most like; hiring and
promoting people of color. Some individuals have had to deal with not being hired because of their

People shouldn't be determined by the way they look. Not being "white "doesn't mean you can't
make six figures and are able to support your family. Social media was created for the enjoyment of
another or better form of communication. Minority majority on shows how mixed the world is and
how so many people feel that race doesn't portray who you are.
This trend only offends those who minorities. It only reduces social problems because it allows
people to disrespect others by basically calling them out of their names. To make things better
everyone has to be on the same page as far as communication goes. Categorizing one another as the
same regardless of the color of our skin will reduce more than "Minority Majority" by creating a
movement towards making a difference in the world. If the current trend remains the way it is
whites will become less than 50 percent of the population by 2042(Tom Jacobs). Coming up with
more suggests or ideas on will it would be tolerant in the near future, the increasing diversity of the
nation may actually yield more intergroup hostility (Tom Jacobs). In my opinion there may be issues
with some part of the society when it comes to the time when we are merge as one. People just have
to be more understanding an aware of other people are now starting families and receiving jobs in
the united states so it's best to start accepting and treating everyone as the same.

Why I Should Be A Teacher
I want to be a teacher to continue to serve. I have served twenty years as officer in the United States
Army and I want to continue to serve others in a different capacity. Through my time in service and
later as member of the civilian work force I have seen the struggles of workers and employers as
they struggle to find sustainable matches. One of the answers to this struggle a is better prepared
work force. However, there are segments of our country that have been systematically left out, and I
want to address that.
I grew up in Seattle during the de–segregation, and it was normal for me to be the only black kid in
my class. As society around me came to grips with the change in the city, I had to go to school. I
could wait for programs and understanding to take hold and remove the old ways. I was labeled one
of "those kids", a "disruptive child" in the class, until at the behest of my parents and school
administrators, I was tested. The test show I was not challenged by the normal material which lead
to the behavior and soon I was challenged.
However, my story doesn't end there. I still had to face the challenges that our current disadvantage
students face and there was a time where my future was in question. However, by the grace of a few
dedicated teachers, I was able to overcome my obstacles and find some success in the classroom,
because of that I want to pay it forward to the next generation. Because of the efforts of so many, I

Marketing Campaigns And The Workforce
Businesses today are faced with many challenges in order to be competitive in our global economy.
These companies need to follow the laws and legislation while incorporating and managing
diversity into their marketing campaigns and the workforce. In 1976, Apple was founded by two
college dropouts. The founders Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs used their talents to build what is now
a world renowned company with some of the most innovative technology devices. In 1980, the
company went public and by 1988 they reorganized the company into four divisions globally. This
reorganization reduced the layers of management which encouraged their employees to become
even more innovative. The competition in the technology sector was growing at an ... Show more

Additionally, Apple was forced to review not only their diversity practices but also that of their
suppliers. They have made a commitment to transparency. Apple has taken diversity beyond the
traditional definition. They insist on including an individual's personal qualities. They want
individuals from all areas of the globe. This inclusion provides them with backgrounds and
experiences that will provide them with many benefits. Some of those benefits are an increased
adaptability and flexibility, a large variety of viewpoints, and increased innovation and creativity.
Apple is making the most of diversity and inclusion by relying on the benefits of their employees'
different background and perspectives in order to create new opportunities for generations to come.
Apple has focused their recruiting efforts in order to create a more diverse workforce. The website

Ethnic Diversity : The Melting Pot
American history began with waves of immigrants, bringing their own cultures and traditions to a
blossoming new country. America has become known as the "Melting Pot", this metaphor though is
giving way to new emerging names such as, "Salad Bowl", and "Mosaic". Different cultures mixed
together, similar to those of ingredients, each having individual characteristics. Ethnic diversity is
rampant throughout today's society, involving diverse individuals who share a common and
distinctive culture, religion, and language. Many may not notice how these various ethnic groups
impact todays society. By narrowing our perspective, we can see how society is influenced by ethnic
diversity by the foods we eat, the way we dance, and the way we communicate with one another.
What does the average American, no matter their race or ethnicity, see when they walk through the
grocery market? Low and behold, grocery aisles stocked with items such as chili, tortillas, beans,
and queso cheese. Recent polls suggest that nearly a quarter of the U.S population is Hispanic. It
would be irrational to think that ethnic diversity has not impacted society's food choices when 17
percent of the population consists of Hispanics. We may not acknowledge the growing trend of both
Hispanic and Mexican cuisine since we have become so accustom to it. Nonetheless the expanding
number of Taco Bells and Chipotle restaurants in the United States has flourished and influenced
society's food choices.

What Is Ethnic Diversity?
Ethnic diversity is what we can say America's population is full of. Different cultures, different
religions and traditions are the make–up of this nation. It's been this way for years and we all see
that is still growing with people from different countries across the world. Many people have
welcomed the ethnic growth in our nation; they see it as a chance to experience and learn about
different cultures. It's an exciting thing to interact with people from different backgrounds and learn
their life practices.
However, with all of the excitement from those who are at ease with the influx of diversity; there are
those who oppose. Some of us are content, some slightly uncomfortable and some who outright
believe that there is no space in their world for outsiders. This is where we begin to see that racism
is still prevalent in our country. The acknowledgment of racism may not always be an outspoken
one, and some may even turn a blind eye to it, but it does not change the fact that we know to be
true; racism is still alive. In an article written by Catherine Shoichet of CNN; she gives us results of
a poll, which states, "That roughly half of Americans –– 49% –– say racism is "a big problem" in
society today." That leaves 51% who feel that it's somewhat of a problem to no problem at all
(Shoichet November 2015).

issue of racism of two people from two different ethnic groups. I

Inclusion : The Implications Of Diversity In The Workplace
In contemporary society, the idea of diversity has come to the forefront of workplace culture.
Diversity by definition is the existence of multiple different and complex social identities and issues
in society or a space (Woodson). In simple terms, people self–identify or are identified as belonging
to a specific group based on background, experience, or even appearance –– the incorporation of
these groups into specific space or environment is diversity. Through globalization and
modernization of society, the social interaction between these social identities and groups have
become inevitable –– especially for the workplace. Thus, for an organization to be successful, they
must be able to market to and serve the social groups within the global population. Diversity allows
a combination of people to create a unique social space or team that combines their different
backgrounds and associations for increased knowledge, efficiency, and understanding.
Yet, in the same modern society, diversity by itself is meaningless–– the proper integration and
inclusion of these social identifications and groups is crucial to honing in the special knowledge and
capabilities each person brings. More specifically, such identities and groups need to feel supported
and encouraged within the workplace through inclusion. Inclusion is the involvement and
empowerment of all people, where the inherent worth and dignity of those people are publicly
recognized (Woodson). For the talent of these

However, CEDAW has failed to protect women, due to Cambodia's weak legal system. As a result,
most women remain unprotected and vulnerable (Galabru, 2004).
Domestic violence is one of the greatest forms of violence against women in Cambodia. 17% of
married women, ages 15–49, have reported their husbands physically and sexually abusing them.
Even more shocking, one fourth of these women do not think they are abused, revealing Cambodian
women's lack of knowledge of basic human rights. Research shows that lack of education and
alcohol increase women's risk of be abused. Also, women who came of age during the Khmer
Rouge period are subject to significantly higher rates of domestic abuse, relieving how violence in
society affects violence at home. Cambodia's traditional culture does not help women who are

that does not concern law officials. Children are also victims of abuse, due to traditional Asian
households. Extended families tend to live together, so children can be abused not just by their

Managing Ethnic Diversity in the Workplace Essay
Diversity as an issue is new. It became an issue when three powerfully significant trends reached
their own critical points at about the same time (Fernandez & Barr, 1993):
The global market in which American corporations must now do business became intensely
competitive.
The makeup of the U.S. work force began changing dramatically, becoming more diverse.
Individuals began to increasingly celebrate their differences and become less amenable to
compromising what makes them unique. This inclination represents a marked departure from
previous times when predispositions were to "fit in."
To succeed in this highly competitive environment, managers must find ways to get the highest level

Workforce 2000 projects the highest rate of increase for Asian Americans and Hispanics; however,
Asian Americans will be less significant numerically than Hispanics because they are growing from
a much smaller base. The labor participation growth rate of white women will be relatively smaller,
but because they are expanding from a large base, the increase will be numerically substantial
(Johnston & Packer, 1987).
The projection refers to work force growth. It doesn't mean that the prominence of white males in
the labor force will change dramatically. In 1985 white males composed 49 percent of the labor
force; by 2000, they will constitute approximately 45 percent (Johnston & Packer, 1987). However,
in a number or companies, women and minorities already compose large portions of the existing
work force and as much as 80 percent of new hires. For managers of these organizations, the future
is now.
Labor Shortage
An equally significant prediction is that overall the work force will grow at a declining rate. For the
decade ending in 1990, the projected growth rate was 27 percent; for the decade ending in the year
2000, it is 11 percent (Johnston & Packer, 1987).
One important implication of our changing demographics is the very real potential for a labor

Race-Related Stereotypes: Ethnic Diversity In Newspapers
Introduction
Ethnic Diversity in Newspapers
Media has recently become more a part of our lives as ever before. Between social media accounts,
newspapers and magazines, television and also movies, the media is growing every day. Every day
many of Americans look towards the media for news, entertainment, and many other things.
Overtime the outlook of race of many Americans have changed since the segregation laws were
disbanded. Since this magazine has already been accused of being a "racist" magazine, Vanity Fair
needs to know why showing diversity in their magazine–especially on the cover–will have a positive
outcome.
Background
Vanity Fair is a magazine of popular culture, fashion, and politics. (The Editors of Encyclopedia
Britannica, "Vanity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Morial, "Greater Diversity in Media Needed")
Conclusion
Through stereotyping and the racist allegations the magazine is not rising up to the full potential of
readers this magazine could become. A more diverse magazine would reach a more complex
audience and would bring the ratings up. Race–stereotypes is controversial is very critical for
advertisers, as diversity has become a defining characteristic of contemporary marketplaces. We first
describe the advertising debate pertaining to stereotyped representations and their effectiveness.
(Johnson/Grier, 91)
Having diversity on or in the magazine will help appeal to all races instead of just one. This will
broaden your audience and bring in more revenue for that magazine. When you feel like the
magazine isn't appealing based off of because they're only showing a particular race it makes one
feel displaced by a society. (Collymore, "Does News Media have a Place in Diversity Discussion")

Strategic Thinking Essay
The business environment is continuously evolving with the integration of new management trends
developed to create opportunity and respond to various challenges. However, with the
unpredictability of the business environment which is driven mainly by globalization and
technology, innovation turned out to be increasingly critical to success. It means that innovation and
strategy are converging to help in productivity. Innovation has the potential to change the agents
within an organization to become better entrepreneurs to meet various challenges. Strategic thinking
is crucial in creating a coherent, integrative and unifying framework for making decisions particular
regarding the direction in which an organization goes and the resources it plans to utilize
(Goldsmith, 2009).
In some way, strategic thinking utilizes external and internal data, perceptions, and opinions. It is
proactive, conscious and explicit while defining a competitive realm for strategic advantage in the
organization. Strategies are formed to improve the performance of an organization which means that
the company will have to conduct something unique and different compared to that of the
competitors. Whenever a team develops a new strategy, it means that they are establishing change
whether it is innovative or incremental. It means that managing to execute a strategy involves
managing change.
The business landscape of today is characterized by escalating diverse environments whereby some

Racial And Ethnic Diversity In Public Schools
One of the largest debates in today's society is what type of school is more beneficial when
developing an elementary student's learning abilities. Many people say that private schools cater to
their needs better, however others believe public schools are better equipped. The diversity at public
schools allows for social growth, they have a more structured learning criteria, and a more strict
policy on discipline that helps teachers improve behavior. Elementary students are at the most vital
part of their mental development, determining the proper school for young children to attend is a
crucial part of that growth. One of the greatest concerns with public schools is that the numbers are
far too large, parents fear their child will get lost or overlooked. However, there are several benefits
to placing children in larger communities with many different types of people. A study done in 1997
by the National Center for Education Statistics showed that "Racial and ethnic diversity can enrich
the school experiences of students" (Findings from the Condition of Education 1997, p. 9). The
benefit of public schools is rooted largely in the social growth that can and does take place in them.
Racial and ethnic diversity is not only important in exposing children to different cultures, but such
environments counter potential racism that is brought on by cultural isolation. Ethnic diversity, more
often than not, goes hand in hand with intellectual diversity due to the fact that

bias, which points to the differentiation in welfare state spending. I analyze two countries that have
varying percentages of ethnicities and different sized welfare states. Denmark has an extremely
large social welfare state, and a very small amount of ethnic diversity. Brazil, on the other hand, has
high ethnic diversity with a very small welfare state. This paper proves that there is a direct
connection between why having a small ethnic diversity in a country creates differing amounts of
interpersonal trust, which creates a large welfare state, and vice–versa. In his book Comparative
Politics, David Samuels mentions the hypothesis I am ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brazil's population is very diverse and has a comparatively small welfare state. Brazil's high
percentage of ethnic diversity includes "47.7 percent Whites, 43.1 percent Mulatto, 7.6 percent
blacks, 1.1 percent Asians, and .4 percent Indigenous" (CIA, 2015). Their welfare state,
consequently, is small. Kirk Laughlin shows this by saying, "Brazil's investment in social welfare
accounted for 15.5 percent of the country's GDP in 2010" (Laughlin, 2012). Many of Brazil's
welfare programs are not universal. Brazil has Social Security where people pay taxes out of their
employee check. AngloInfo shows this by saying, "If a death, accident, pregnancy, or imprisonment
occurs, the government pays the contributor or family" (AngloInfo, 2015). In this welfare program,
contributors and their families only get certain entitlements if they or a family member pays into the
system. Within Social Security, the people of Brazil also do not get these entitlements all of the time,
only if something unexpected happens would the contributor or their family get the social security
they paid for. In addition to this, many welfare programs are only given to poor families. Bolsa
Family is one of the biggest welfare programs in Brazil. Forbes explains the concept of Bolsa
Family by stating, "Families qualify for differing amounts of aid based on whether or not they have
children, are looking for a job, and income level," and other factors (Forbes, 2013). Foadman
Siddique from Fairobserver says, "Social welfare programs, such as the Bolsa Familia (Family
Allowance), provide cash directly to impoverished families to improve their living standards and to
keep children in school" (Siddique, 2013). This information shows that only people living within
very poor circumstances are eligible for Bolsa Familia. In addition, Brazil's interpersonal trust levels
were 17.5 out of 140 in 2008 (Bancos De Datos 2015). This shows a very small percentage of

Ethnic Diversity Research Paper
Teaching About Ethnic Diversity The article written by Cheryl Cohen asked several important
questions about teaching ethnic diversity through Social Studies/Social Science Education.
"Immigrants and ethnic diversity have posed a paradox to American educators in the social studies,
which is connoted in the national motto, E Pluribus Unum." (Cohen, 1986) This inconsistency was
because the United States has more immigrants, from more areas worldwide than any other country.
Within the United States it has become necessary for educators to include a wider range of adaptable
characteristics from each of the different ethnic groups. The first point in Cohen's research was,
what should be included in education of these students? The general

Diversity In The Workplace
Essay "The demand for high quality talent is outstripping supply and this is not expected to change."
The above statement is true in today's world economy and hence relying on local talents is not
enough, so companies should also consider foreign talent markets for obtaining high quality and
dedicated talents. The workplaces need to be more diverse in order to survive in today's non–static
market. What foreign talents bring is vision and experiences which might be applicable in their local
market but the learning that can be obtained from those experiences will definitely help the
company which plans to hire them and that learning can be applied to similar markets as well. What
is meant by Diversity in Workplace? The basic concept for diversity is rapidly developing. It is no
longer just about creating heterogeneous workforces, but now it is also about using that workforce to
create the innovative products, services and business practices that can give a company a
competitive advantage in the market. And on a global scale, as companies compete, diversity and
inclusion have to frequently shift, as different markets and different cultures have varied definitions
of what diversity means. In today's market almost all executives understand that their companies
cannot be successful on a global platform unless they have a diverse workforce. A diverse workforce
is necessary to drive innovation, foster creativity and guide business strategies. When a company

Diversity's Impact on Organizations
Abstract
Diversity must be created and maintained with in organizations. The purpose of this paper is to
examine the impacts of diversity onto an organization in addition to explaining the legally mandated
and stakeholder driven explanations for mandatory diversity.
Diversity's Impact on Organizations Diversity within an organization is a blending of people from
various cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds. Diversity has challenged organizations to set
realistic goals for its leaders as well as its employees. The organization must look at the moral,
ethical and social responsibilities it has toward its employees and understand their legal obligations
set by laws. It is important for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gender The number of women entering the workforce has increased over the years. To reap the
benefits of gender diversity and create an inclusive workplace organizations are developing flexible
employment approaches. Flexible employment approaches include arrangements that allow job
sharing so that employees are better able to care for their children or flexible employment conditions
such as flextime that give employees input into the length and scheduling of their workweek. With
the increase in gender diversity, organizations have developed sexual harassment training supported
by top management. This training includes: defining quid pro quo, what hostile environments are,
providing examples of types of behaviors that are prohibited and describing disciplinary actions that
will be taken in instances of sexual harassment.
Education
Today employees' educational backgrounds vary considerably; this has led organizations to enhance
their training and development programs. "Functional illiteracy the ability to handle basic reading,
math, and arithmetic is a serious problem at work (Dessler, 2002)." Employers are responding in
two ways. First more organizations are testing job candidates' basic skills and secondly more
organizations are setting up basic skills and literacy programs. "For example, Smith and Wesson
instituted a comprehensive program. A literacy audit revealed

Growing Racial And Ethnic Diversity Within The United States
This article discussed the growing racial and ethnic diversity in the United States. There are
increasing numbers of aging adults who are immigrants, non–white, and ethnic minorities. The
article stated, "Eight in ten older Americans are non–Hispanic whites." However, there are less than
two–thirds of Americans younger than age 65 which are non–Hispanic whites. Furthermore, the
article stated, "In the total population, whites could lose their majority status as early as 2042."
Therefore, the United States is changing and will be more diverse in future years.
The article also discussed the changes of distribution of racial and ethnic groups in the elderly
population in the United States. This change is predicted to start between the years of 2010 and
2050. The highest predicted growth will come from Hispanics and Asians. According to the article,
the older Hispanic population will have the most growth, "from 7.1 percent to 19.5 percent of all
older Americans." Furthermore, the population of older Asians will grow from 3.3% to 8.4%. The
article also stated, "Older Asians could have about the same population share that older blacks do
today." The article also, talked about the growth in the population of older black people. According
to the article, "The number of older blacks will grow more slowly, but it will move from 8.5 percent
to 11.8 percent." Lastly, the article pointed out, the non–Hispanic white population with begin to
increase slower than the other ethnic groups.

Overcoming Barriers To Reduce Diversity In The Workplace
To effectively overcome the barriers against diversity in the workplace, first a general understanding
of what diversity is must be developed. Knowing how diversity affects a workplace environment,
advantages and disadvantages of diversity in the workplace, and the legal obstacles that surround
both employers and employees when dealing with diversity and equality are important to
understand. Based on the results from the survey completed with the employees, these topics are a
great place to start in the training.
What is Diversity?
The Business Dictionary defines diversity as "Human Resources – a mixed workforce that provides
a wide range of abilities, experience, knowledge, and strengths due to its heterogeneity in age,
background, ethnicity, physical abilities, political and religious beliefs, sex, and other attributes."
(Business Dictionary, 2017)
Diversity does not mean race or race relations; the actual meaning of the word diversity is
difference. Differences in thinking styles, values, race, ethnicity, orientation or any aspect of our
social identity, are examples.
Diversity in the Workplace
People with demographic differences working in the same organization make a diverse workforce.
Perceptions affect people's relations in how they communicate and interact with one another. Human
resource professionals must be effective when dealing with organizational issues relating to
diversity in order for those organizations to be successful. Assessing any needs that arise

Racism, Racism And Ethnic Diversity Essay
Problem Statement
In recent times, racist activities have been prevalent in American communities which is a long
standing issue between blacks and whites especially in colleges and the society at large. A freshman
at ETSU counter protested along with the black racial group in a provocative way to showcase the
depth of the tussle between blacks and whites in the USA.
Problem Statement Description
Racism and ethnic diversity has been "America's" tradition towards the blacks and other racial
groups since the early 1620's up till date (John, 2016). With the recent incident at ETSU, it indicates
a long trend of struggle about blacks being not generally accepted by the whites. The recent hate
speech and racially charged taunting that happened at ETSU was a contribution of management
problem and organizational problem.
Considering the magnitude of different racial groups(students) at ETSU with respect to racism rate
in America, ETSU management should have implemented proactive measure rather than reactive
measures to discourage racism within the university. The management made a simple decision by
expelling Tristan Rettke out of the university and never will he be enrolled in the future. Such steps
indicate that the institution respects everyone irrespective of color and there's no preference in
dealing with individuals. Factors either from management, technology or organizational that
contributed to this problem which shall be discussed briefly below.

not what is their history or what is done in their church.
In the racial group that I have chosen was Asian. The different parts of Asia that I am going to talk
about is their culture. Asian descent culture and language are different in some many ways from
others because they have their own way of dressing. Asian culture there are many parts that Asia's
indigenous population is Mongolic stock. Some of the religions are Theravada Buddhism, Lamaism,
Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism, or East Asian Buddhism. They are all different in some many ways of
living and beliefs. Their language is different in many ways too. Some don't pronounce or talk the
same as other racial group.
In my conclusion is that both ethnicity group and religion group that I chose to talk about have
prejudice and discrimination but that is with most people that are not understanding and open
mended to anything. When it comes down to it they are some similar in so many ways. They get
judged on based on some one else's ways but they can also be different because their language,

Ethnic Diversity Inherently Conflicts
Before taking part in my SLT, my opinion was that ethnic diversity inherently conflict. Looking
back on the discussion now, I can still say that the opinion I held prior still stands as it was. I greatly
appreciated, however, the new perspectives that were brought to my attention through the discussion
I arbitrated. The discussion that was facilitated throughout my SLT was interesting and intelligent, if
not a tad too idealistic for my liking. Some points contention recurred throughout the seminar's
small group discussion, spurring meaningful debate within the group. One of these was the idea of a
balance between integration and assimilation in a society. We discussed the difficulties of culture
clashes; the divide between the values of

Ethnic And Racial Diversity
After reading the ethnic and racial differences chapter, what stood out for me was how much
ethnicity and culture could negatively affect a student's academic life. It is important to treat those of
different ethnicities, races and cultures the same as you would treat anyone else, including yourself.
Ethnicity is defined as 'a cultural heritage or characteristics shared by a group, such as history,
homeland, language, traditions or religion' (Woolfolk & Margetts, Educational Psychology, 2016).
There are many types of ethnicities; Australia alone has 35 different types of ethnic groups.
Everyone has family heritage extending from somewhere else in the world, the most common
include Italian, Greek, German and Irish, and this forms part of your ethnic heritage. My family
heritage extends from Holland and Germany, where my mothers side of my family were all born in
Holland and migrated just before my mother was born, my fathers family migrated from Germany
during the 1800's. Race is defined as a 'socially constructed category of people who share
biologically transmitted traits' (Woolfolk & Margetts, Educational Psychology, 2016). These traits
include common features such as skin colour and hair texture. As I was born in Australia and my
heritage descends from Europe, I am classified as White. Other race categories include African
American or Black, American Indian or Alaskan Native, Asian and Native Hawaiian or Other
Pacific Islander. Biologically there are no pure races

The boardrooms of some of the biggest companies are becoming more dominated by white people
despite business secretary Vince Cable demanding that firms increase their ethnic diversity (Neate,

February. The diminished ethnic diversity in the boardroom has emerged despite Cable calling on
companies to ensure their executive teams better reflect the wider population. "Black and ethnic
minority representation on Fortune 400 and 500 boards is currently at around 5%, which is much
lower than we would expect if the company boards reflected the population of this country," he said.

The Diversity Audit Project : Starbucks
The purpose of the diversity audit project is to teach students how to analyze and measure diversity
efforts of potential employers and as potential customers. In this globalizing world these skills are
more important than ever. Many companies are making changes to diversify their employees and
their customer base; this project is focused on investigating one company's efforts. After this project
students can expect to have gained a deeper knowledge of how to measure a company's level of
diversity and analyze its effects on both employees and customers. Many people think that
Starbucks is just a company that sells coffee. Beginning our diversity audit, that's what our group
thought as well. As we began our research we uncovered a company that we could not have
imagined. Starbucks has embraced diversity, and in many ways, is a trailblazer. Starbucks is
involved in a plethora of diversity efforts, both in achieving diversity and managing diversity within
their corporation. Starbucks becomes deeply involved in promoting diversity by creating Partner
Networks ("Diversity and Inclusion"). A partner is an employee of Starbucks, and Partner Networks
are support systems created and supported by Starbucks to help their diverse staff feel included and
welcome. Partner networks include Starbucks Access Alliance Partnership, which promotes
increased accessibility and use of Starbucks facilities for customers and Partners with disabilities
("Diversity and Inclusion").

society, and private life. Some families, mostly Asians, still have stereotypes of women should have
lower statuses or education than men do.

Ethnic Diversity In Africa
Almost 75% of all Africans are black, yet Africa is one of the most diverse continent in the world.
The amount of Melanin a person determines skin color, yet people use this to define a person. With
a continent that has so much history, people still assume everyone in the continent have the same
color skin. Africa has a wide range of ethnicities and colors due to the different regions of Africa,
the Indigenous Africans, and the immigrants in Africa. Although Africa has a majority of dark–
skinned people, Africa has the largest range of ethnic diversity in the world.
Commencing with Africa's many diverse regions, is the most effective way to illustrate Africa's
range of ethnicity. For Instance, Egyptians, Libyans, and Moroccans are a part of North Africa, and
are considered white. This is because Egyptians, Libyans, and Moroccans were confused with a
blonde haired, blue–eyed Swede, having lighter skin tones and straighter hair (Diamond). As clearly
executed, these white people who live in Africa prove that not all Africans are black. In another
case, South Africa, called "rainbow nation," is known for their wide range of diversity. More
specifically, in Southern Africa Cape, Coloureds is the name given to an ethnic group composed
primarily of persons of mixed race, including one of the lighter races in Africa (Nurock). If South
Africa is known for its diversity, it should hardly be considered that all Africans are black. To put in
another way, tribes and regions that are closer to the equator have darker skin than those farther
from the equator, having more melanin than others. In this instance, East Africa is closest to the
equator and houses the darker tribes, whereas North Africa has lighter skinned Africans, including
the lightest African ethnic group, Bebers (O'Neil). As elucidated, It is unjust to call all Africans
black, when there are clearly different ethnicities and races all throughout the large continent of
Africa.
Africa's diversity can also be illustrated by the indigenous Africans, or the Africans who originated
on this Continent. To elaborate, the Africa encountered by the first European explorers in the
fifteenth century had already been home to five human races: blacks, whites, Pygmies,

Australia Is A Country With Cultural And Ethnic Diversity...
Australia is a country with cultural and ethnic diversity. People in this country have right to express

several of reasons why nurses can refuse to participate in procedures, which are against as well as
unacceptable in their own religious, moral, ethical beliefs and value as a health care professional.
However, there should be a fine line between those religious, moral belief and the individual's
personal convenience and preference. This essay will discuss on the right of nurses to refuse to
participate in procedure, which are not acceptable in terms of their religious, moral and ethical
value. It also states what are the reasonable steps to be taken and the situation that should be and

preference should not be the reason for the nurses to restrain from their duty and care.
As stated in the first sentence of the introduction, Australia is a multicultural country. Nurses as well
as patients are from different ethnic background and hold their own individual values. Common
wealth government has identified cultural identity as one of the three dimension of multicultural
policy which states that all Australians has right to express and share their own culture heritage,

The Impacts Of Ethnic Diversity In The 18th Century...
The new laws and customs the Spanish and English created continued to lead to their dominance.
Even though Africans were quickly surpassing the English in numbers, throughout some areas, they
would never go on to have power over them. The English saw the growing population of Africans as
a threat and slowly started taking away their rights. They had "laws that specifically distinguished
them from everyone else" (Ethnic Diversity in 18th Century PowerPoint, p. 54). At first, African
slaves were able to marry, their children weren't considered slaves, and they were only slaves for a
number of years, however, this changed as time went on. Eventually, their only free day was
Sunday, they were slaves for life and their children would take their place as servants when their
parents died "...for when a negro is once bought, he is the purchaser's servant as long as he lives,
unless he gives him to another, or sets him free" (Peter Kalm, p. 5). These laws and actions made it
impossible for Africans to own land, overpopulate the colony, and surpass their English owners.
Also, "In South Carolina, the Negro Act stripped Africans of all rights and put a ten–year
moratorium on the importation of Africans" (Ethnic Diversity in 18th Century PowerPoint, p. 39).
Along with the laws put on them, Africans were horribly mistreated and abused; "the condition of
the Negroes is very bad, by reason of the severity of the Laws" (William Moraley, p. 1). The lack of
punishment for the mistreatment of

and correct that the newsletter said that "Members of racial and ethnic minorities
experience health disparities that are closely linked to social, economic and environmental
disadvantages" sadly I have to agree with that comment because for example if you go to

Racial And Ethnic Minority Diversity
Racial and Ethnic Minority Diversity Minority populations are increasing in the future, therefore
awareness of the unique needs of this aging population is imperative in shaping social programs and
ensuring equitable successful aging. Four ethnic groups make up the largest minority proportions in
the United States: Hispanic, Native American, African American, and Asian. Although there are
many similarities when comparing income and poverty rates, health outcomes in aging, and the
family unit, there is variety within each group giving rise to great diversity.
Both Hispanic and Native Americans tend to live in multi–generational households. Adult children
provide care for aging parents; proportionately Hispanics have a disproportionately higher rate of
caregiving perhaps due to Native American's experiencing higher rates of poverty. One study
highlighted that 67% of Hispanic elders lived with their family or within two miles (as cited in
Novak, 2012, p. 180), whereas 50% of Native American elders relied on family supports (Novak,
2012, p. 191). Most grandparents in both groups receiving care, also provide care for their
grandchildren. Additionally, grandparents pass down the oral cultural traditions to their families.
Conversely, those Hispanic subgroups that realize the most independent living are Cubans perhaps
because of greater access to education and higher incomes (Novak, 2012, p. 185–186). Overall, the
rate of informal support for elders in both ethnicities is

African American Ethnic Diversity

  • 1. African American Ethnic Diversity KC is a public charter school located in Kennesaw, GA that employees approximately 62 full time teachers for 870 students. The grade levels range from K–4, which gives the school, a significantly lower than national average, teacher–student ratio of 14:1. The school has a good balance in male versus female attendance with male attendance at 49% and females at 51%. There is a significant difference in ethnic diversity versus a typical public school system in Georgia. At KC 46.5% of the student population is African American (Kennesaw, GA public school average is 23.2%) 32% of the students are Caucasian, 5.5% Hispanic, 8.5% Asian, 5.6% are at least two races or more and less than 1% of the student population is made up of American Indian or ... It is amazing how a teacher can actually see the physical development of these students taking place. While some of the students were easily engaged in the lesson plan about 50% of the class could not focus or stop talking for more than a few minutes. It might have been the fact that it was Friday, or that I was there. Our class information and materials completely support and enrich this field experience. I know one thing for sure is I am going to start my classroom management plan right now ~ starting with behavioral management! I believe that any graduating teacher that attempt to go into a classroom as a teacher must have a management strategy in place and completely organized before attempting any learning. Students will push our buttons and I feel it is important for the students to respect and fear the teacher because otherwise the students will gain complete control of the classroom. I cannot tell you how many times my CT had to hush the students and two minutes later she was hushing them again. Without classroom management all teachers will eventually ... • 2. Diversity And America’S Social Debt With Ethnic Minorities. Diversity and America's social debt with ethnic minorities The Fifth Amendment of the Bill of Rights (1791) included in the Constitution of the Unites States (US) declares that "No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation." Later, President Roosevelt during his campaign address of October 13, 1932, certainly stated that the "government is responsible for its citizens ' welfare." Recently, Rabbi Greg Harris in a recent lecture at the National Defense University declared that "the majorities should protect the rights of minorities." Based on these assertions, it is possible to infer that historically, since the birth of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Native Americans became an obstacle to the expansionist desires of the colonists in the US. As the economic interaction with Britain and Europe in general increased in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the necessity of extending the ownership of lands to the west became a priority for the US Government, which found in the tribal communities an easy target to expropriate. Native Americans were forced to displace their families, belongings, and with them, their culture. A fierce movement of resistance emerged from the dispossessed tribal communities to defend their traditions and people against the greedy intentions of the US federal government. In this regard, King states that "the U.S. government committed atrocities and genocide against the Native people for the purpose of obliterating them in order to take claim to their lands." It could be said that the Indian courage and honor were not powerful enough to fight well–equipped and organized US troops who legitimized their struggle by denaturing and degrading Indians in the eyes of society. Since then, those Native Americans were forced to abandon their lands to live in reduced territories where the absence of official interest for relating or exposing their internal displacement has prevailed up to date. As stated by Gonzalez, "Whites deliberately ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Causes Of Ethnic Diversity In The United Kingdom Ethnic Diversity in United Kingdom Immigrants, are they really the bad people or are you? Some say immigrants affected the ethnic diversity. Culture, language, and religion are different in many ethnic groups, it's amazing on how many different things you can learn. Is it vital that the migration that happened during the late 19th century has led to an effect amongst the ethnic diversity in the United Kingdom? In this paper internet sources contained many more accurate information. Books talked very little about ethnic diversity in United Kingdom. In addition to talking about the 19th century immigrant the internet had many sources that talked about it. Books contained information but very information about each ethnic group. Using the internet went into more details about each ethnic group. It was easier finding more information on the internet than the books. Finding information in books never change but on the internet the information can be updated. These sources contained information about the British Asians,Africans,White European,Mexicans, and immigrants. Using the internet over books gather more information about ethnic groups and immigrants. Before we begin, it is important to understand a few key terms related to our studies: ethnic diversity, ethnic groups, and cultural diversity. Ethnic diversity can mean different things in varying contexts. It means races from around the world just different in language and skin tone. Examples of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Impact Of Ethnic Diversity On The Development Of An... With the increasing presence of globalisation and rapid emergence of new markets, entrepreneurship is becoming more prevalent. According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), there is usually high Total Entrepreneurial Activity (TEA) in countries like Australia, Canada and United States, whereas there is low TEA in Norway and United Kingdom . Generally, entrepreneurship can be defined as "a purposeful activity to initiate, maintain and develop a profit–orientated business" . However, for one to succeed as an entrepreneur, they must go beyond the 'norm' and differentiate themselves from other competing entrepreneurs; this may be achieved by embracing both social and ethnic diversity. Social diversity refers to the different factors that set individuals apart in a society like gender, age or religion, whereas ethnic diversity looks at different ethnic groups and cultures . This report will first look at how ethnic diversity contributes to the development of an entrepreneur, and the limitations to this using Hofstede's framework. It will also look at social diversity and entrepreneurship, particularly focusing on gender. Finally, the report will conclude whether social and ethnic diversity may be beneficial to entrepreneurship and development in general overall. It can be argued that ethnic diversity helps with the advancement of an entrepreneur. • 5. The Importance Of Culture And Ethnic Diversity One's environment has a huge impact on the person's morals and upbringing. The culture that surrounds individuals allows and leads these individuals to join a specific social status or class. A person's goals and aspirations can be attributed to the individuals that person surrounds themselves with. Culture and ethnic diversity leads one to have different religious, linguistic, and social background. The human race is so diverse and interesting due to the ethnical diversity that surrounds us. Different regions in the United States acquire different mindsets, food preferences, and everyday lifestyles. Living in a single place for one's whole life can limit that person's knowledge of other cultures and ethnicities around the world. Where a person is from can strongly influence their morals and viewpoints. Rural and farm areas place a large emphasis on hard work, family heritage, and love for the land. Farming is an occupation that is often passed down generation to generation. Because of this birthright, farming families have a large amount of love and respect for their farmland. Another common characteristic of farmers is their love and passion for the environment and their products. Lloyd Fuller, an extremely hardworking man, spends his whole life dedicated to his potato farm land that resides in Idaho. All of his time and hard work is devoted to his farm land and he would do anything to protect it. In the book, the majority of famers are using genetically engineered ... • 6. Inequities Of Diversity Yes, I said it. These four words are coming from the mouth of a progressive, African American male that has lived in the South for all my life. A life where I've observed and challenged the inequities of ethnicity, gender and religion in multiple layers of leadership in Corporate America. And now, at the turn of the century as the demographics of our nation has become more and more diverse, so much so that many predict that by 2050, the United States will become a majority–minority (non–white) population, people are still calling for more diversity. I get it. We need more diversity in our positions of leadership, emerging industries like tech and healthcare, education in order to better meet the needs of the diverse populations being served. ... The event was well attended, to near capacity, by people from all walks of life, including local officials, community leaders, teachers, blue collars, laypersons. These folks were black, brown, white, male, and female, from various socio–economic and religious backgrounds. As the program neared its end, after a captivating keynote charge, then came the portion that would finally get people to interact and engage – the entertainment! Personally for me, I was looking forward to this. The muscles of my lower body were approaching atrophy, after sitting in stasis for almost 2 hours. I needed the circulation, but also I wanted to meet and interact with so many of the new faces that were across the room. Moments after the closing address, the Mistress of Ceremony announced the band and gave instructions on where everyone was to go, to either dance, mingle and/or get a beverage. As I walked closer to the adjacent room, I paused after hearing sounds of music that was very unfamiliar. It sounded like the chords from a banjo, complimented by music that echoed Dixie. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, that maybe this was just 1 song, so I proceeded to mingle with the board members and staff of the organization. This attempt was stymied by their obvious enthrallment with key dignitaries and acquaintances that they apparently knew or had a familiar relationship with. I managed to squeeze in a half–hearted, brief "Hello, my name is" introduction with the CEO and after 20 minutes, the music selection didn't change. I took a moment to consciously look at the rest of the crowd and it looked very different from those that initially followed me to this venue. • 7. Diversity Is Becoming More And More Important As Years Go The concept of diversity is becoming more and more important as years go by. This concept is not as easy as it may appear; diversity is not just about acceptance and respect. Understanding what diversity is means understanding that each person is unique; it means understanding and recognising our differences; moreover, moving beyond differences of gender, race, age, religious beliefs and political beliefs. Understanding and managing diversity is trying to make sure that all those differences fit together like pieces of a mosaic. The concept is extremely important in today's society, following everything that has been happening related to this matter. We consider ourselves a tolerant and evolved society; yet we still hear of people of colour discriminated and killed everyday, we still hear of women living in horrible conditions, deprived of their dignity and sold as slaves. It appears obvious so, that diversity has to be taken into consideration when we talk about organisations. Everything that is happening in the world is reflected into firms too; organizations are, in fact, part of a wider social system. That is why managing diversity is possibly one of the hardest challenges that managers have to face in today's world. This essay is going to examine the concept of diversity in organisations today, why we have to consider it important and what kinds of advantages companies receive. Moreover, the essay will focus on gender diversity showing that even a lot of efforts still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Racial And Ethnic Diversity Within The United States Racial and ethnic diversity within the United States has grown rapidly over the last several years and is expected to continue to grow. According to Pardasani & Bandyopadhyay (2014), "racial/ethnic minorities, now roughly one–third of the U.S. population, are expected to become the majority in 2042, with the nation projected to be 54 percent non Caucasian" (p. 90). Nurses are caring for patients who come from diverse racial, ethnic, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds in health care settings across the United States. Therefore, it is the nurse 's responsibility to provide culturally competent care to patients, in turn providing high quality care. According to deChesnay and Anderson (2016), cultural competence is a way of providing care that takes into account cultural differences between the nurse and the patient, while meeting the health needs of the patient" (p. 33). It 's an ongoing process for nurses, which involves accepting and respecting cultural differences and not letting your own personal views and beliefs influence how you care for your patients. There are many ways to provide culturally competent care to patients, especially those from vulnerable populations. According to Douglas et al. (2014), guidelines for providing culturally competent nursing care include having knowledge of cultures, obtaining education and training in culturally competent care, performing critical self–reflection, providing cross cultural communication, advocating for patients ... • 9. Social, Cultural, Ethnic Diversity, And Intellectual... If anyone would have told me while I was an undergraduate student that I would be applying to a social work program for my Masters, I simply would have chuckled and said to myself, "No way". At that time, I did not have a complete understanding of all of the aspects social work encompassed (and the many pathways it could take a person down). Regardless of which career path, social workers are aiming for social and economic justice, leading to greater social welfare and social change. Social work aims to help those who face various hardships due to situational, cultural, ethnic diversity, and intellectual abilities. I have come to look at social justice similarly to the American philosopher John Rawls. Like Rawls, I believe social justice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I look at these people and ask myself, "What can society do to help them? What can I do to help them? What resources are available to them? How can we meet these people in the position they are and help them overcome?" These questions draw me to social work, and being part of a culture that promotes social change. By asking these questions, researching, involvement, and learning the needs of specific populations, we can search for solutions to the injustices these groups face. We can then work to achieve social change. We can work to improve our social institutions, social behaviors, and social relations. The people I love should not be deprived because of who they are or their financial despair – no one should. The opportunity for a better life should be made available to those who need it most. On a personal level, as recently as last year, found myself in therapy trying to better my life to overcome the mental disadvantage of depression. I feel lucky to have had the means to receive treatment for myself, but not everyone has the same advantage. I recently saw a cartoon illustration of "Equality Vs. Equity." In today society, racial and ethnic diversity is an everyday thing in the United States. Racial diversity can be seen in workplace, schools, and etc. When it comes to the future of America people say immigrants are it. The percentage of immigrants that has entered the United States has continued to rise everyday now. Immigrants has begun to premaster English as their second language. People shouldn't be determined by the way they look. Not being "white "doesn't mean you can't make six figures and are able to support your family. Social media was created for the enjoyment of another or better form of communication. Minority majority on shows how mixed the world is and how so many people feel that race doesn't portray who you are. This trend only offends those who minorities. It only reduces social problems because it allows people to disrespect others by basically calling them out of their names. To make things better everyone has to be on the same page as far as communication goes. Categorizing one another as the same regardless of the color of our skin will reduce more than "Minority Majority" by creating a movement towards making a difference in the world. If the current trend remains the way it is whites will become less than 50 percent of the population by 2042(Tom Jacobs). Coming up with more suggests or ideas on will it would be tolerant in the near future, the increasing diversity of the nation may actually yield more intergroup hostility (Tom Jacobs). • 11. Why I Should Be A Teacher I want to be a teacher to continue to serve. I have served twenty years as officer in the United States Army and I want to continue to serve others in a different capacity. Through my time in service and later as member of the civilian work force I have seen the struggles of workers and employers as they struggle to find sustainable matches. One of the answers to this struggle a is better prepared work force. However, there are segments of our country that have been systematically left out, and I want to address that. I grew up in Seattle during the de–segregation, and it was normal for me to be the only black kid in my class. As society around me came to grips with the change in the city, I had to go to school. I could wait for programs and understanding to take hold and remove the old ways. I was labeled one of "those kids", a "disruptive child" in the class, until at the behest of my parents and school administrators, I was tested. The test show I was not challenged by the normal material which lead to the behavior and soon I was challenged. However, my story doesn't end there. I still had to face the challenges that our current disadvantage students face and there was a time where my future was in question. However, by the grace of a few dedicated teachers, I was able to overcome my obstacles and find some success in the classroom, because of that I want to pay it forward to the next generation. These companies need to follow the laws and legislation while incorporating and managing diversity into their marketing campaigns and the workforce. In 1976, Apple was founded by two college dropouts. The founders Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs used their talents to build what is now a world renowned company with some of the most innovative technology devices. In 1980, the company went public and by 1988 they reorganized the company into four divisions globally. This reorganization reduced the layers of management which encouraged their employees to become even more innovative. The competition in the technology sector was growing at an ... • 13. Ethnic Diversity : The Melting Pot American history began with waves of immigrants, bringing their own cultures and traditions to a blossoming new country. America has become known as the "Melting Pot", this metaphor though is giving way to new emerging names such as, "Salad Bowl", and "Mosaic". Different cultures mixed together, similar to those of ingredients, each having individual characteristics. Ethnic diversity is rampant throughout today's society, involving diverse individuals who share a common and distinctive culture, religion, and language. Many may not notice how these various ethnic groups impact todays society. By narrowing our perspective, we can see how society is influenced by ethnic diversity by the foods we eat, the way we dance, and the way we communicate with one another. What does the average American, no matter their race or ethnicity, see when they walk through the grocery market? Low and behold, grocery aisles stocked with items such as chili, tortillas, beans, and queso cheese. Recent polls suggest that nearly a quarter of the U.S population is Hispanic. It would be irrational to think that ethnic diversity has not impacted society's food choices when 17 percent of the population consists of Hispanics. We may not acknowledge the growing trend of both Hispanic and Mexican cuisine since we have become so accustom to it. Nonetheless the expanding number of Taco Bells and Chipotle restaurants in the United States has flourished and influenced society's food choices. Along with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. What Is Ethnic Diversity? Ethnic diversity is what we can say America's population is full of. Different cultures, different religions and traditions are the make–up of this nation. It's been this way for years and we all see that is still growing with people from different countries across the world. Many people have welcomed the ethnic growth in our nation; they see it as a chance to experience and learn about different cultures. It's an exciting thing to interact with people from different backgrounds and learn their life practices. However, with all of the excitement from those who are at ease with the influx of diversity; there are those who oppose. Some of us are content, some slightly uncomfortable and some who outright believe that there is no space in their world for outsiders. This is where we begin to see that racism is still prevalent in our country. The acknowledgment of racism may not always be an outspoken one, and some may even turn a blind eye to it, but it does not change the fact that we know to be true; racism is still alive. In an article written by Catherine Shoichet of CNN; she gives us results of a poll, which states, "That roughly half of Americans –– 49% –– say racism is "a big problem" in society today." That leaves 51% who feel that it's somewhat of a problem to no problem at all (Shoichet November 2015). • 15. Inclusion : The Implications Of Diversity In The Workplace In contemporary society, the idea of diversity has come to the forefront of workplace culture. Diversity by definition is the existence of multiple different and complex social identities and issues in society or a space (Woodson). In simple terms, people self–identify or are identified as belonging to a specific group based on background, experience, or even appearance –– the incorporation of these groups into specific space or environment is diversity. Through globalization and modernization of society, the social interaction between these social identities and groups have become inevitable –– especially for the workplace. Thus, for an organization to be successful, they must be able to market to and serve the social groups within the global population. Diversity allows a combination of people to create a unique social space or team that combines their different backgrounds and associations for increased knowledge, efficiency, and understanding. Yet, in the same modern society, diversity by itself is meaningless–– the proper integration and inclusion of these social identifications and groups is crucial to honing in the special knowledge and capabilities each person brings. More specifically, such identities and groups need to feel supported and encouraged within the workplace through inclusion. Inclusion is the involvement and empowerment of all people, where the inherent worth and dignity of those people are publicly recognized (Woodson). For the talent of these ... However, CEDAW has failed to protect women, due to Cambodia's weak legal system. As a result, most women remain unprotected and vulnerable (Galabru, 2004). Domestic violence is one of the greatest forms of violence against women in Cambodia. 17% of married women, ages 15–49, have reported their husbands physically and sexually abusing them. Even more shocking, one fourth of these women do not think they are abused, revealing Cambodian women's lack of knowledge of basic human rights. Research shows that lack of education and alcohol increase women's risk of be abused. Also, women who came of age during the Khmer Rouge period are subject to significantly higher rates of domestic abuse, relieving how violence in society affects violence at home. Cambodia's traditional culture does not help women who are victims of domestic abuse. Violence and rape are considered an issue between the husband and wife that does not concern law officials. Children are also victims of abuse, due to traditional Asian households. Extended families tend to live together, so children can be abused not just by their parent, but also by an uncle, cousin, or grandparent. Because of this, civil rights organizations in Cambodia pressure the NA to widen the definition of "victims" to include others just as relatives, not just wives (Galabru, 2004). • 17. Managing Ethnic Diversity in the Workplace Essay Diversity as an issue is new. It became an issue when three powerfully significant trends reached their own critical points at about the same time (Fernandez & Barr, 1993): The global market in which American corporations must now do business became intensely competitive. The makeup of the U.S. work force began changing dramatically, becoming more diverse. Individuals began to increasingly celebrate their differences and become less amenable to compromising what makes them unique. This inclination represents a marked departure from previous times when predispositions were to "fit in." To succeed in this highly competitive environment, managers must find ways to get the highest level of contribution from their workers. And ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Workforce 2000 projects the highest rate of increase for Asian Americans and Hispanics; however, Asian Americans will be less significant numerically than Hispanics because they are growing from a much smaller base. The labor participation growth rate of white women will be relatively smaller, but because they are expanding from a large base, the increase will be numerically substantial (Johnston & Packer, 1987). The projection refers to work force growth. It doesn't mean that the prominence of white males in the labor force will change dramatically. In 1985 white males composed 49 percent of the labor force; by 2000, they will constitute approximately 45 percent (Johnston & Packer, 1987). However, in a number or companies, women and minorities already compose large portions of the existing work force and as much as 80 percent of new hires. For managers of these organizations, the future is now. Labor Shortage An equally significant prediction is that overall the work force will grow at a declining rate. For the decade ending in 1990, the projected growth rate was 27 percent; for the decade ending in the year 2000, it is 11 percent (Johnston & Packer, 1987). One important implication of our changing demographics is the very real potential for a labor shortage. Managers are expected to experience increasing

However, with the unpredictability of the business environment which is driven mainly by globalization and technology, innovation turned out to be increasingly critical to success. It means that innovation and strategy are converging to help in productivity. Innovation has the potential to change the agents within an organization to become better entrepreneurs to meet various challenges. Strategic thinking is crucial in creating a coherent, integrative and unifying framework for making decisions particular regarding the direction in which an organization goes and the resources it plans to utilize (Goldsmith, 2009). In some way, strategic thinking utilizes external and internal data, perceptions, and opinions. It is proactive, conscious and explicit while defining a competitive realm for strategic advantage in the organization. Strategies are formed to improve the performance of an organization which means that the company will have to conduct something unique and different compared to that of the competitors. • 21. Racial And Ethnic Diversity In Public Schools One of the largest debates in today's society is what type of school is more beneficial when developing an elementary student's learning abilities. Many people say that private schools cater to their needs better, however others believe public schools are better equipped. The diversity at public schools allows for social growth, they have a more structured learning criteria, and a more strict policy on discipline that helps teachers improve behavior. Elementary students are at the most vital part of their mental development, determining the proper school for young children to attend is a crucial part of that growth. One of the greatest concerns with public schools is that the numbers are far too large, parents fear their child will get lost or overlooked. However, there are several benefits to placing children in larger communities with many different types of people. A study done in 1997 by the National Center for Education Statistics showed that "Racial and ethnic diversity can enrich the school experiences of students" (Findings from the Condition of Education 1997, p. 9). The benefit of public schools is rooted largely in the social growth that can and does take place in them. Racial and ethnic diversity is not only important in exposing children to different cultures, but such environments counter potential racism that is brought on by cultural isolation. • 22. The Importance Of Ethnic Diversity In Welfare States In my paper, I discuss how the varying amount of ethnicities in a country leads to trust and in–group bias, which points to the differentiation in welfare state spending. I analyze two countries that have varying percentages of ethnicities and different sized welfare states. Denmark has an extremely large social welfare state, and a very small amount of ethnic diversity. Brazil, on the other hand, has high ethnic diversity with a very small welfare state. This paper proves that there is a direct connection between why having a small ethnic diversity in a country creates differing amounts of interpersonal trust, which creates a large welfare state, and vice–versa. In his book Comparative Politics, David Samuels mentions the hypothesis I am ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brazil's population is very diverse and has a comparatively small welfare state. Brazil's high percentage of ethnic diversity includes "47.7 percent Whites, 43.1 percent Mulatto, 7.6 percent blacks, 1.1 percent Asians, and .4 percent Indigenous" (CIA, 2015). Their welfare state, consequently, is small. Kirk Laughlin shows this by saying, "Brazil's investment in social welfare accounted for 15.5 percent of the country's GDP in 2010" (Laughlin, 2012). Many of Brazil's welfare programs are not universal. Brazil has Social Security where people pay taxes out of their employee check. AngloInfo shows this by saying, "If a death, accident, pregnancy, or imprisonment occurs, the government pays the contributor or family" (AngloInfo, 2015). In this welfare program, contributors and their families only get certain entitlements if they or a family member pays into the system. Within Social Security, the people of Brazil also do not get these entitlements all of the time, only if something unexpected happens would the contributor or their family get the social security they paid for. In addition to this, many welfare programs are only given to poor families. Bolsa Family is one of the biggest welfare programs in Brazil. Forbes explains the concept of Bolsa Family by stating, "Families qualify for differing amounts of aid based on whether or not they have children, are looking for a job, and income level," and other factors (Forbes, 2013). Foadman Siddique from Fairobserver says, "Social welfare programs, such as the Bolsa Familia (Family Allowance), provide cash directly to impoverished families to improve their living standards and to keep children in school" (Siddique, 2013). This information shows that only people living within very poor circumstances are eligible for Bolsa Familia. The above statement is true in today's world economy and hence relying on local talents is not enough, so companies should also consider foreign talent markets for obtaining high quality and dedicated talents. The workplaces need to be more diverse in order to survive in today's non–static market. What foreign talents bring is vision and experiences which might be applicable in their local market but the learning that can be obtained from those experiences will definitely help the company which plans to hire them and that learning can be applied to similar markets as well. What is meant by Diversity in Workplace? The basic concept for diversity is rapidly developing. It is no longer just about creating heterogeneous workforces, but now it is also about using that workforce to create the innovative products, services and business practices that can give a company a competitive advantage in the market. And on a global scale, as companies compete, diversity and inclusion have to frequently shift, as different markets and different cultures have varied definitions of what diversity means. In today's market almost all executives understand that their companies cannot be successful on a global platform unless they have a diverse workforce. Based on the results from the survey completed with the employees, these topics are a great place to start in the training. What is Diversity? The Business Dictionary defines diversity as "Human Resources – a mixed workforce that provides a wide range of abilities, experience, knowledge, and strengths due to its heterogeneity in age, background, ethnicity, physical abilities, political and religious beliefs, sex, and other attributes." Problem Statement Description Racism and ethnic diversity has been "America's" tradition towards the blacks and other racial groups since the early 1620's up till date (John, 2016). With the recent incident at ETSU, it indicates a long trend of struggle about blacks being not generally accepted by the whites. The recent hate speech and racially charged taunting that happened at ETSU was a contribution of management problem and organizational problem. Considering the magnitude of different racial groups(students) at ETSU with respect to racism rate in America, ETSU management should have implemented proactive measure rather than reactive measures to discourage racism within the university. Ethnic And Racial Diversity After reading the ethnic and racial differences chapter, what stood out for me was how much ethnicity and culture could negatively affect a student's academic life. It is important to treat those of different ethnicities, races and cultures the same as you would treat anyone else, including yourself. Ethnicity is defined as 'a cultural heritage or characteristics shared by a group, such as history, homeland, language, traditions or religion' (Woolfolk & Margetts, Educational Psychology, 2016). There are many types of ethnicities; Australia alone has 35 different types of ethnic groups. The amount of Melanin a person determines skin color, yet people use this to define a person. With a continent that has so much history, people still assume everyone in the continent have the same color skin. Africa has a wide range of ethnicities and colors due to the different regions of Africa, the Indigenous Africans, and the immigrants in Africa. Although Africa has a majority of dark– skinned people, Africa has the largest range of ethnic diversity in the world. Commencing with Africa's many diverse regions, is the most effective way to illustrate Africa's range of ethnicity. For Instance, Egyptians, Libyans, and Moroccans are a part of North Africa, and are considered white. This is because Egyptians, Libyans, and Moroccans were confused with a blonde haired, blue–eyed Swede, having lighter skin tones and straighter hair (Diamond). As clearly executed, these white people who live in Africa prove that not all Africans are black. In another case, South Africa, called "rainbow nation," is known for their wide range of diversity. More specifically, in Southern Africa Cape, Coloureds is the name given to an ethnic group composed primarily of persons of mixed race, including one of the lighter races in Africa (Nurock). If South Africa is known for its diversity, it should hardly be considered that all Africans are black. To put in another way, tribes and regions that are closer to the equator have darker skin than those farther from the equator, having more melanin than others. In this instance, East Africa is closest to the equator and houses the darker tribes, whereas North Africa has lighter skinned Africans, including the lightest African ethnic group, Bebers (O'Neil). As elucidated, It is unjust to call all Africans black, when there are clearly different ethnicities and races all throughout the large continent of Africa. Africa's diversity can also be illustrated by the indigenous Africans, or the Africans who originated on this Continent. To elaborate, the Africa encountered by the first European explorers in the fifteenth century had already been home to five human races: blacks, whites, Pygmies, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Impacts Of Ethnic Diversity In The 18th Century... The new laws and customs the Spanish and English created continued to lead to their dominance. Even though Africans were quickly surpassing the English in numbers, throughout some areas, they would never go on to have power over them. The English saw the growing population of Africans as a threat and slowly started taking away their rights. They had "laws that specifically distinguished them from everyone else" (Ethnic Diversity in 18th Century PowerPoint, p. 54). At first, African slaves were able to marry, their children weren't considered slaves, and they were only slaves for a number of years, however, this changed as time went on. Eventually, their only free day was Sunday, they were slaves for life and their children would take their place as servants when their parents died "...for when a negro is once bought, he is the purchaser's servant as long as he lives, unless he gives him to another, or sets him free" (Peter Kalm, p. 5). These laws and actions made it impossible for Africans to own land, overpopulate the colony, and surpass their English owners. Also, "In South Carolina, the Negro Act stripped Africans of all rights and put a ten–year moratorium on the importation of Africans" (Ethnic Diversity in 18th Century PowerPoint, p. 39).
