The Inexact Science of Climatology
Climatology is an inexact science to say the least. The only undisputed facts are: there are gases that
are transparent to ultraviolet light but absorb infrared radiation, creating the 'greenhouse effect', and
human activity has caused the accumulation of greenhouse gasses to increase across the world
(McKibben & Wilcoxen, 2002). The application of microeconomic principles can be used to address
some of the fallout of the climate change caused by the greenhouse effect. In this paper we will take
a look at three such measures and what their application can mean to the industry. The same way
that there are various uncertain factors when accounting for climate change (clouds, ocean
temperature, aerosols' effect, etc.), there are various microeconomic principles that can be applied to
help reduce emissions, with equally diverse results. One of the most limiting forms of creating clean
emissions standards is a renewable portfolio standard (RPS) limited to renewable technology (Paul,
Palmer & Woerman, 2011). This is restrictive because of an unfair distribution of credits dependent
upon which technology the RPS is being applied to. For example, an RPS that treats all renewables
equally would highly encourage the low–cost renewables like bio–mass and wind, while high–cost
renewables like solar would not be promoted as fairly (Paul, Palmer & Woerman). Some states help
address this disproportion allotment with 'carve–outs' or portions of the RPS that addresses separate
renewables

The reduction in the chemical composition of the vaporizing element viz., Mn and Fe has normally
caused dissolution of Al6 (Fe, Mn) particles in the higher incident power laser beam welding. The
hardness values of LB welded joint at 3.5 kW are less than that of the base metal because of the
absence of the higher hardness intermetallic compounds. This observation of absence of the various
particles in the weldzone and HAZ was correlating with earlier observation done by Moon and
Metzbower (1983). Moon and Metzbower have found that only 5 % of the precipitates were
remaining in the LB weld zone compared to the base metal. Effect of defect on yield stress and
tensile strength: The porous cross–section at 3 kW LB weld reduced the tensile properties.
Reduction of porosity in the subsequent LB welds at 3.25 kW and 3.5 kW increases the tensile
properties. The reduced cross–sectional area of the LB weld act as stress raiser and decrease in
tensile properties has been observed. The fine grains formed due to LB welding generally increasee
the tensile properties. Due to combined effect of fine grains and stress concentration at the cross–
section, a minimum decrease of 15 % was observed in tensile properties at 3.5 kW incident power

Renewable Fuels And The Energy Issue
Investigating whether a renewable fuel produces the same level of energy as an equivalent amount
of nonrenewable fuel would be beneficial to help save Earth's natural resources and is a very
relevant and important science project. The purpose of this project is to figure out which type of
fuels is most efficient. In my science project, I will be burning various types of renewable fuels and
non– renewable fuels and comparing the duration that they burn and comparing the temperature that
they burn.
Finding the most effective fuel could solve a global issue and debate about which is better to use.
Biofuels refers to materials that are recently dead and can be used as a gaseous fuel, a solid, or a
liquid. Biofuels are also known as the nonrenewable fuels. On the other hand, agro fuels are derived
from specific crops and are also known as the renewable fuels. In conclusion, I will be testing
multiple types of fuels to compare my own results on a global energy issue.

resulting in reduced costs for the process and membrane.

7. Can use any form of low –grade waste heat or coupled with solar energy systems which makes it

The most apparent difference is that hybrid cars have an internal combustion engine accompanied
by an electric motor. When a car is moving at a low speed, the ICE (internal combustion engine)
only provides power to the electric motor and the motor drives the entire vehicle. Thus, an electric
motor helps reduce fuel consumption as well as car emission. Moreover, a smarter management of
power called the regenerative braking system is introduced to hybrid vehicles. It converts kinetic

for developments in ''on–site'' and ''near–site'' power generation. Combined, heating, and power
(CHP) systems can possibly increase resource energy efficiency and reduce air pollutant emissions
noticeably. CHP systems produce both electric and thermal energy, changing over 75– 80% of the
fuel source into useful energy [International Energy Agency (IEA), 2008]. International Energy
Agency (IEA) reported in 2007 that CHP systems produce approximately 9% of global power
generation. The global capacity of CHP systems is estimated at around 330 GWe (Gigawatt–
electric) [IEA, 2008]. The application of CHP systems also has great potential to for reducing
environmental impact and increasing energy efficiency. The Department of Energy and Climate
Change (DECC), UK, have estimated that the substitution of micro–CHP systems could reduce
annual emissions of CO2 by up to 2.1 tons compared to condensing boilers and electricity grid
(DECC, 2011).
CHP systems can be categorized according to their power ratings. Different manufacturers give
different categories to their products. This could be partly due to the fact that different terms that can
be used to describe decentralized energy systems. A category used by Ackermann et al. (2001) and
Koeppel, (2003) is as follows; "Micro generation: < 5 kW; Small– scale generation: 5 kW–5 MW;
Medium generation: 5 MW–50 MW; Large generation: >50 MW".

Microgeneration addresses some of the fundamental problems with the centralised system that we
presently use to generate power, and some commentators (Greenpeace, 2006; Greenpeace, 2005)
have claimed that distributed generation should be the basis of any low–carbon economy. This view

The only undisputed facts are: there are gases that are transparent to ultraviolet light but absorb infrared radiation, creating the 'greenhouse effect', and human activity has caused the accumulation of greenhouse gasses to increase across the world (McKibben & Wilcoxen, 2002). The application of microeconomic principles can be used to address some of the fallout of the climate change caused by the greenhouse effect. In this paper we will take a look at three such measures and what their application can mean to the industry. The same way that there are various uncertain factors when accounting for climate change (clouds, ocean temperature, aerosols' effect, etc.), there are various microeconomic principles that can be applied to help reduce emissions, with equally diverse results. One of the most limiting forms of creating clean emissions standards is a renewable portfolio standard (RPS) limited to renewable technology (Paul, Palmer & Woerman, 2011). This is restrictive because of an unfair distribution of credits dependent upon which technology the RPS is being applied to. For example, an RPS that treats all renewables equally would highly encourage the low–cost renewables like bio–mass and wind, while high–cost renewables like solar would not be promoted as fairly (Paul, Palmer & Woerman).
