1. Evaluation – Question 3
How did you use media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
2. I used a wide range of media technology during this process in order to create my media product.
Some of these are:
• Blogger
• YouTube
• Google
• Social media
• JVC camera
• Still camera
• Flip camera
• Memory Card
• Hard drive
• USB reader
• Final Cut pro
• Photoshop
• Camtasia
3. Blogger
Blogger played a vital part during this process because it acted as a diary for me. I updated it constantly
blogging about things I’ve learnt and things I’ve been doing relating to the project. I used blogger during all
three processes, Research, planning and evaluation.
Research:
During my research, I was able to blog about new things that I’ve learnt such as Andrew Goodwin’s theory. This was useful for me
because I was able to look back at these blogs and apply or challenge what I’ve learnt whilst making my music video. I made blogs
about different conventions in music videos, digi packs and magazine adverts.
Planning:
Whilst planning my work, I made blogs so that me and my group could look at them when making our video in order not to forget.
It was a useful way to make sure our ideas were safe so that we don’t lose it and can look back at it. I also posted videos that have
influenced me onto blogger so that I could also look back at it and use some of the ideas in my video. I also made posts about
digipacks and magazine ads so that I can look back at them when making my own digipack and magazine ad.
Evaluation:
When answering the evaluation questions, I posted all the answers onto blogger using a variety of different media technology. It
was a safe and efficient way to post my answers.
4. Google, YouTube and Social Media.
Google:
I used Google to do research mainly. I searched for Andrew Goodwin, Carol Vernallis and Mulvey to learn about
their theories and either challenge or develop their ideas. I also used it to research about the artist who’s song
I chose to do. Not only that but I also searched for celebrity digipacks and magazine adverts so that I can get
ideas, inspiration and learn how to make an effective digipack and magazine advert.
YouTube:
YouTube was another form of technology I used. I used it mainly when doing my research and planning because
I searched for different videos to gain inspiration and ideas from. For example I looked at Devlin – London city
and got the idea to film several scenery shots because it is interesting to look at.
Social Media:
I created a twitter account for our artist so that I could post tweets about what I’ve been getting up to relating
to the project. It’s a way for friends and teachers to keep updated with what were doing.
5. JVC Camera, Flip Camera and Still camera
JVC camera:
We used a JVC camera to film different shots of the artist during our music video. Not only did we use it to film
different base tracks of our artist singing but we also used it to film scenery shots to use in our music video.
Flip camera:
I used a flip camera to film feedback from our target audience after allowing them to see the roughcut, final
music video, digipack and magazine advert. I was able to post these videos onto the blog.
Still Camera:
I used the still camera to take pictures of our artist so that we can use that for our digipack and magazine
advert. I also used to take images of our different locations, props and costume. This allowed me keep a track
of what I need for my project and also to present it to my teacher.
6. Memory Card, Hard Drive and Card reader.
MEMORY CARD was essential when filming and taking pictures because it is where all
my work got saved onto. The memory card had to be in the camera when filming so
that the clips and be saved somewhere. I used the CARD READER to put the work of
my memory card onto the computer I was working on. Without the card reader there
is no other way to put the clips on the computer. The work that I put onto my
computer was then saved on the HARD DRIVE so that I could keep the important clips
and images safe and then be able to use them again. Without the hard drive there is
no certainty or guarantee that my work is safe.
7. Final Cut Pro
I used final cut pro to add all my clips onto and create my music video. I used it to cut
clips, select certain parts of clips and add effects to create my music video. I was able
to change the speed on some clips to make it look more interesting. I also added the
music onto final cut pro and I had to move it around to make sure that it is in sync with
the video. If its not in sync the video comes out wrong and doesn't’t look good. We
challenged Carol Vernallis view which was that base tracks change depending on the
beat because we changed it depending on the lyrics due to the song we selected. We
was able to do this effectively using final cut pro which helped us to do it quickly and
precisely.
I also used final cut pro to answer question one on the evaluation because it was a
easy way to present my work in an understandable and interesting manner. I added
clips from my feedback and added text to explain what I learnt from the feedback.
8. Photoshop, Camtasia, Slideshare and Prezi
Photoshop:
When making my digipack and magazine advert, I used Photoshop to be able to make it. I imported the images I took of the artist
and added text and designs onto it to make my final work. I played around with the layers until I felt that my final work looks
interesting. Before starting my final work, I played around with templates so that I can learn how to use Photoshop since it is a
complicated software.
Camtasia:
I used Camtasia to create different and interesting blogs compared to the ordinary blogs I type out. Rather then typing out what I
want to say, camtasia allows me record the screen where I show what I need to while talking over it explaining it. I used camtasia
to answer an evaluation question since it is a different, interesting method of technology.
Prezi and slideshare:
I used prezi and slideshare to upload interesting powerpoints onto blogger. It is a different method of technology and a more
interesting blog to look at. I used slideshare to answer an evaluation question because it’s a convenient way to present my
answer.
