1. Question 4
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
2. Intro
Throughout our A2 media studies coursework, we have used a wide range of technologies in order to help
us with our final pieces through the different stages. Most of all I used my home computer with Vegas Pro
14 and also PhotoShop CS6. It took me a while to get used to the software due to their advanced
professional level with established media creators such as the BBC using the same programmes. At AS
used Publisher that is a lot more simple. After I got used to the software, I was able to edit well and
develop professional media products.
4. Research
To research for my music video, i.e. finding different conventions and trends, I use google, I also
used Google’s website ‘YouTube’ to try and look at examples. I looked at lots of G-Eazy videos
as he was the artist of the song I used. Also, I was able to put different videos onto my blog
including my own when I uploaded it by Embedding them. I also looked at bullying videos on
YouTube as I wanted to convey this theme so taking certain shot ideas really helped me.
I also looked at websites of different theorists etc. that had different ideas on how to present a
video in order to target different audiences, this helped me to organise all my media language that
I was going to use an ensure that my target audience it targeted.
I also created a lip sync video as my preliminary task, this allowed me to try out different
approaches to editing and helped me to edit my final thing.
I Used Blogger to record all of my information and it gave me a place where I could look at all my
data etc. where I could take all my ideas and put them in one simple place.
5. Planning
I used quite a lot of different technologies in the planning stage of my media product.
I created a survey on SurveyMonkey and posted it onto my FaceBook page and allowed my Friends
to complete the survey, this gave me an idea on how to create and improved my ideas on how I
was going to construct the final piece.
I used Blogger to log my efforts into a place where it could be recalled easily and also a place
where it could be displayed in a way that would be easy to show my media ability. Blogger is a nice
and simple to use flash-based website were entering logs and embedding different things is easy
and understandable.
I created a storyboard using ‘storyboardthat.com’, it was a great website that allowed you to create
your own web-comics at absolutely no price and even select a storyboard format that allowed me
to annotate over the pieces and put a description underneath, giving me a clean and easy-to-follow
storyboard.
6. Construction
I used a Panasonic camera to record my video. It allows me to record crisp image and high-
resolution videos.
I used Sony Vegas Pro 14 to edit my videos, this is a very professional product and it allows me to
make great music videos, it supports a wide range of features that are not available on simpler
programmes such as Adobe Elements.
I also used Photoshop, this was some software that I was already quite familiar with as I used it in
the AS part of my course.
I also used a tripod that allowed me to get consistent shots that were not shakey, they were great
aswell as I could achieve higher up shots that would not of been possible any other way.
7. Sony Vegas 14
This software allowed me to edit all of my
raw footage.
I used different effects such as Gaussian
blurs that I put around my subject to show
she was alone (look to the left around the
outsides).
I also used this to slow down some of the
shots to ensure that the video fit the music
and that I could give the certain theme that
I was trying to portray.
This SoftWare took a while to get used to
as it is of professional level.
8. Photoshop
PhotoShop was generally for the construction of my
print-based pieces such as my digi-pak and my
poster.
It allows different things such as layering that
allowed me to create much more meaningful
designs as I could add intricate effects.
I used this along side my digital camera that I
used to take the Photos, the camera allowed high
quality images that are much easier to edit once
put into PhotoShop.
PhotoShop is one of the best modern
softwares for editing and is great to use.
