Detail report:
First Day : (1/4/2015).
Students have to learn about safety of contrucsion before going and visiting
direcly on the site by Dr Dao Duy Lam. The lession was useful and essential for
student because it help student easy to understand and imagine the base
principle of safety and working on the site. Moreover, Providing the information
about secure epuiment such as hat, clothes, gloves, shoes…
Second Day : (2/4/2015)
- Cau Giay interchange:
This bridge is reinfocered concrete bridge with 7 continuous spans was built
casted in place concrete method on the scaffold system. To reduce stress for the
ground, the contructor used reinforced concrete plate to support for scaffold.
The bridge has seven couple piers and two abutment with two main spans were
used fix bearing support, other maining used elastomeric bearings (steel core
rubber bearings). During building, at the pier using temporary bearings like fix
bearings for stability.

Summary:
Type of bridge : reinforced concrete bridge.
Type of structure: continuous hollow slab girder.
Type of foundation: bored pile.
Buiding method: casted in place concrete on formwork and scaffolding systems
combined prestressed steel after casting.
Contructor : Dragons Company.

2.Visit Buoi – Hoang Quoc Viet interchange
The bridge is reinforced concrete bridge with mutiple spans was built casted in
place concrete method on the scaffold system. To reduce stress for the ground,
the contructor used reinforced concrete plate to support for scaffold. Prestressed
steel after casting step by step. This bridge used some of bearings support
differently such as fix bearings, elastomeric bearings, pot bearings… it is
depend on working state of bridge.
Under the bridge.
The bridge is located on ring road 2 of Ha Noi capital and builded by 12 Bridge
Contractor , CIENCO 1 Company. That bridge is similar to Cau Giay
interchange about structure and building method.
Type of bridge : reinforced concrete bridge.
Type of structure: continuous hollow slab girder.
Type of foundation: bored pile.

3.Visit the clover leaf interchange near Nhat Tan Bridge on new Highway 5
Next station is clover leaf interchange on new highway 5 . We went up the
walking bridge near the junction and the teacher introduced about characteristic of
type’s intersection and showed the way to go from some point to different point .
After visiting that point, I recongized some thing like that :
This intersection is shaped asterick.

- about advantage :
Its advantages are not creating conflict traffic, large sight distance for driver. It
can be planted tree along roadsides making aesthetic. There are suitable
condition for creating a special point of the road segment.
- about disadvantage :.
Features of this intersection is easy to confuse the road for driver and turn right
so long (if you want to turn left,then turn right before).Large area for
interchange, cost of construction and clearance site is quite big .This kind of
interchange has two bridges crossing the road, the continuous beams. That kind
of interchange not suitable for central of city because its area is large so its just
for suburban.

4.Visit underpass on interchange of highway.

5. Visit Dong Tru Bridge.
Dong Tru bridge is impotant bridge located on highway 5 , this bridge is focal
point of highway 5 with total length is 1140m and crossing Duong river to link
Dong Anh and Long Bien. Beside, reducing trffic volume for some province to
Ha Noi such as Hai Phong, Quang Ninh… and back again.

Dong Tru Bridge has three main spans with total length approximate 500 meter ,
its width is 55 meter.
This is the first bridge used new technology in Viet Nam at that time. It is steel pile
filled with concrete.

This structure have some advantage comparing with nomal structure. For
example: stability and durability of concrete – steel pile more higher. Because
inside the steel pile was filled full of concrete so it was protected well inside .
The steel pile don’t rust inside, so it is stable and strong during working time or
even have a hitting by verhicle.
Displacement ,deformation and creep fllow longitudinal and lateral is lower
because stell pile like a ahell to cover tightly. Therefore, the concrete inside
steel pile less destructived than nomal reinforced concrete.

6.Visit Overbridge of Thanh Tri bridge ’s segment.
The last station in that day is overbride of Thanh Tri bridge’s segment. This is
reinforced concrete bridge.

The girder was built by casted in place method on scaffold – formwork system.
Althought the height of pier is tall but the contractor still using casted in place
method with hollow slab girder combined prestressing cable after pouring the
concrete.
The steel cage is lowered on the site for peparing to pour concrete (bored pile).
Third Day : (3/4/2015)
1.Visit Highway 2 interchange

This interchange linking Ha Noi – Noi Bai with Phuc Yen and National Highway
14. There are two bridge crossing national highway 2 and specialy, both of bridge
using pre-baem structure for main sapan. Kind of structure have used only this
bridge in Viet Nam up to now.
The drainage system of the bridge.
This bridge was used pre-beam structure for main span and I beam for other
maining spans. Pre- Beam is special beam because its structure have I steel
member inside and covering by concrete.
I saw main span which used pre-beam structure, depth of beam is lower than I
beam structure and having more beam than orther spans.

2.Visit Viet Tri Bridge
Viet Tri bridge is project include main bridge that crossing Lo river , rail overpass
and approach bridge. The contractor is CIENCO 1 Company.
This project located on national highway 2 .
The supervision consultants for the bridge is TEDI company.

Main Bridge is reinforced concrete with three spans . its structure is box girder,
method of building was used cantilever technology and moverble casting.
This technology applied a few years ago in Viet Nam and nowadays cantilever
technology had controlled by big building company as CIENCO 1... We don’t
depend on forein building company.
The middle span is waiting for closer joint day of building. I think the building
progess ’s project are on time.

At that moment, the next approach bridge was craning and assembling the beam.
This type of beam is supper -T beam with its long is 38m.

The appoach bridge and the railway overpass bridge are used Supper T beam and
craning – assembling deam method. This method have many advantage such as:
save money, save time because produced and contructed simultaneously.
Continuous slab deck.
Steel net between two spans. After pouring concrete, It called continuous heat
slab. This slab hold stably for deck of bridge.
End of beam before and after was coved concrete to protect anchorage block.

Here is casting beam area.
The casting beam is located about 600m to bridge. End of beam have a lot of steel
bar. Its funtion is conect horizontally all of beam. To increse roughness for
conection, they made scabrous surface area linking.
This is expansion joint member to assemble expansion jiont and the
transition slab below.

The left side is pre-stressing jack for post-tentioning .
The right side is pre-stressing bed for pre-tentioning.
PC bar .
PC bar is high strength steel . This member keeping stable the box girder and the
pier during building time. Because at that point, it have negative moment.
Therefore the box girder easy to overturn down. To resistant that moment, need to
use pc bar to connect girder and pier togerther.

This is movable casting.
Moverble casting is epuiment for casting by stage in cantilever technology.
The Railway overpass is used stopper block for the beam. It is special member.

This is special pier with big footing because lacking of railway and building on the
trench.

The interchange on free way with hollow slab girder which used fix bearing for
some middle of span and movable bearing for side spans.
II, Technology in building bridge.
During fieldwork time, I have seen a lot of impression about building technologies
on the site. There are construction technology of bored pile, cantilever girder,pre
beam,super T ... I’m interested in the Super-T girders technology.
Super-T girders is the modern prestressed concrete girders, hollowed inside,
simple structure. Super-T girders has some important advantages compared to
other types of beam current, which leads to advantages for lower costs and saving

time. Moreover, this method is optimal measure for producing amount of beam
with large number.
Here is casting beam ground.
End of beam have a lot of steel bar. Its funtion is conect horizontally all of beam.
To increse roughness for conection, they made scabrous surface area linking.
It is depent on terain or building contruction to decide assemble method.
There are two main method to build. It is move from casting ground to the site by
crane or dedicated verhical.

Speed construction is fast because do not need scaffolding for construction of the
deck. Time to assemble supper T beam is fast and esay.
Summary advantages of Super-T beam.
- Saving cost,saving time for the project
- Istalling,producting easier and more synchronous
- Safety in Construction
- Speed construction is fast
