This way, I can convince the readers that drug addiction is more than a habit, and can be considered
a brain disease. I will use the information I gained in my psychology class in college where we spent
a lot of time going over the science side of addiction and what it does to the brain. It allowed me to
see addiction as a brain disease rather than a compulsive habit and that helped me deal with the loss
of my friends. I will explain the way that prescription pain killers mimic the endorphins, the body's
natural "feel–good" chemical and how the brain will eventually become tolerant to the "fake"

have a friend, Brandon, whose leg was run over by a tractor when he was eighteen years old. The
doctor prescribed him an extremely high dosage of pain killers and before he knew it, he had
developed a high tolerance for them. Once his leg was healed, he wanted to stop taking the pain
killers, but his body went through a state of withdrawal. He wanted to stop taking the pills so bad

Watching my older brother struggle with drug addiction has taught me more in my life than anything
else. He was a smart kid with a good head on his shoulders. As he grew older he made some unwise
choices with regard to substance abuse that quickly turned into a full blown addiction lasting over
five years and landed him in and out of four different rehabs. He was striving to get clean, but every
time he took one step forward he fell three steps back. Taylor entered Drug Court, after finding
himself in a lot of trouble with the law, due to drug related incidents. Drug Court is a state run
program offered to non–violent felony offenders suffering from the disease of addiction. If you
successfully complete the 3–5–year program, charges can be expunged immediately. But if you fail
to complete the program, your alternative sentence is state prison for the maximum term of your
sentence. As Taylor took this opportunity, he knew he had to be fully committed to his recovery or

Of course it has negative things associated with it itself. Methadone is also addicting, so the person
who is using it can easily abuse it. If methadone is used as prescribed, it does not create that high

In 1989, a group of criminal justice professionals in Miami–Dade County realized that simply
sending drug addicted offenders to prison often meant these same faces would reappear back in
court shortly after being released on parole. They realized that the drug addiction crisis in their
community might be the cause. These professionals attempted to figure out a way to treat this
individuals in order to help them rejoin society instead of being stuck in a cycle of reoffending.
They worked together to establish the first Drug Treatment Court. This program was the first of its
kind, offering drug offenders a chance to break the cycle and recover from their addiction. Drug
courts are special programs which attempt to rehabilitate defendants rather than simply punish them.
Although these programs vary from location to location, the purpose of these programs is to provide
treatment for drug addicted defendants in hopes that they will be able to overcome their drug habit
and stop committing crimes. For about one year, drug court participants are provided with treatment
and services, meet frequently with a judge, are randomly and frequently tested for drug use and can
be sanctioned or rewarded based on their progress. At the end of the program, participants graduate,

Ohio, one of the states, is facing drug problems. This state is considered one of the deadliest drug
epidemics in American history. There are two types of drugs mentioned in the article. One of them is
opioid. An opioid is a substitute for morphine and widely used. According to the statistics, 500
people had died from an overdose in 2005. In 2013, the numbers soared from 500 deaths to 2,700.
Another drug(s) is known as synthetic opioids. Fentanyl and Carfentanil are the two drugs mention

she craves. One day, he hopes his wife turns her life around.
This article was interesting to read because I am familiar with Robert's position. I had the same
thoughts and feelings he expressed in the article. One similar thinking was why addict drowns
themselves to drugs. I am amazed how over the years, he has matured in thinking when it comes to
addiction. He is compassionate. Took me a long time to have compassion towards an addict I knew.
My sympathy developed during my freshman college. I did not want to be mad anymore and
decided to have a different approach to thinking. One method of thinking, I never thought of, was
how Robert saw addiction as a disease and in need of treatment. (Wasser, 2017). I found his
perspective intriguing. Also, the article specified that local officers and judges do not treat all addicts

tool to practice is compassionate. If Robert can be kind, so can you. Compassionate is not judging

Controlling Idea: Addiction has components that influence the behavior in addicts, there are

According to the National Institute of Drug Abuse about half Filipino have a loved one, a friend, or
an acquaintance who is addicted to drugs.

Drug abuse is an addiction, which has different substance types and can ruin people's life or even
cause death. People use it for variety of reasons such as getting away from their bothers or getting
high. Approximately 200 million people abusing drugs, most of them are addicted in the world. This

Good education and sport resources can prevent youngsters to deviate wrong ways. Besides,
government should clean school areas up from teasers, because as Cahit Ozer said, youngsters and
young adults are specifically at hazardous periods for drug abuse. To prohibit drug deals among
neighborhoods there are necessity to more observation and supervision.
Narcotic production and distribution is not an easy to do. Dealers need to be organize, arm, money
and a power to protect them and monopoly the drug market. Therefore, it is complicated. In Turkey,
as many countries, the dirty money that earned from drug distribution goes to terror organizations.
Killing a terror organization in one hit, seems not easy; but closing the ways feed them is possible.
In that case, government should legalize drug use and sell it from their hand as monopoly.
Furthermore, people can buy drugs cheaper from government instead of paying to terrorists; streets
will be fresh and children clean. Government can put a quota, which is not lethal and drug users can
also take health cares.
All things into consideration, government should be active in drug addiction situations in all stages.
Drug addiction related to many social situations and if it were fixed, it would become plenty of
benefits to both government and people.
