4. Awareness: policies, governance-basic organization and
understanding of rules/regulations/ideas
Motivation: working with the skills/competencies/planning
and other incentives or practices that change behavior at work.
Self-Synchronization: the ability of an individual to regulate
themselves and their work.
Participation: working as a group to come to a general
agreement.
Mediation: negotiations between group members to make
decisions about the project on hand.
Reciprocity: the give and take of mediation that results in a
more relaxed outcome.
Reflection: looking back at the finished product and how one
got to the end; getting closure.
Engagement: getting excited and searching for more projects
and making the decision to take opportunities or not
(Gotta, 2006).

Fun projects
Student to student learning
Creative and unique ideas
More work output with less time spent
Learning skills that will be used for years to come
Overall using collaborative learning techniques have many
pros as far as using it for teaching students. Collaboration
is also great for teachers as it allows younger, newer
teachers to grow as well as teachers that are set in their
way. Everyone seems to benefit (Middlecamp, 2001)
6. Cons?
Student shyness, may be overlooked
Not enough time to work together and come to
unanimous decisions
Instructors could be too busy to monitor or facilitate
properly
Work load not distributed evenly between students/coworkers
While there are still some cons
working together with other
students or co-workers is
considered to be highly
beneficial to all that participate.
7. In the end:
There are pros and cons to working in
groups and collaborating just as there are
pros and cons to any other kind of activity.
The pros and cons need to be considered
when deciding whether or not to use
collaborative learning or collaborative work
settings.
