3. These posters are all of the same genre as my chosen one, which is indie
rock. The lighting is a variety of colours, with mainly deep colours such as
blacks, reds and blues. Which all represent different meanings, for example
black symbolises power authority and elegance, red connotes danger,
blood and passion, and blue is the connotation of relaxation, calm and
peacefulness. Some posters feature the artist on them, however others just
feature the bands logo on them, it is usually the bigger indie rock artists
that just have the logo on the front, this is because they are more well
known and it is easier for their audience to recognise them, and enjoyable
for the audience. The fonts used are all very diverse, they are either very
big and bold so that they stand out to the reader or they are in italic print
style writing, it is usually very iconic and features shapes or symbols within
the writing. Which also helps the audience to further recognise the artist
and make the connection, almost creating a false relationship.

5. The 1975’s Digipak is all black and white, which gives it a mysterious but elegant
feel. Its simple and minimalistic which is something I want to subvert in my own work.
On the front cover they have their iconic rectangle shape in white, with a white
spotlight behind it. This is for audience recognition, as it represents the 1975 and is
easily seen. On the CD they have their band logo printed on it at the top, also in a
deeper shade of black which enhances the idea of authority and power. The left
inside of the Digipak is where names are credited for the making of the album,
which is quite simple but effective, as it is not something of an important need to
their audience, but is included. The back cover features again their iconic symbol
of the rectangle with a white spotlight behind it. However it has the track list on it in
order. They are also placed inside the rectangle, so as not to disturb the imagery of
the rectangle, however it’s still the main focus and allows their audience to relate.
Some of these ideas I want to include into my own work, such as the simplistic
minimalistic house style, and the fact that it continues throughout, I also think that
having a symbol is really effective, as audiences can relate easily which could
potentially boost sales.
