2. Preparations for the day
We had the morning to get ready for the music
video. In this time we got all the props we
needed, this included walkie talkies, amps, a
microphone and stand and many other props
we required for the video.
3. All packed up
• After we loaded up the mini bus with the stuff
that we needed we all got on to get to the car
park in Guildford
4. Arriving at the carpark
We got off the bus and took the props and instruments up to the 11th floor of
the car park.We then started setting the instruments up ready for the band,
we tried to do this as quick as we could because we wanted to film as much
as we could before it got dark
6. Filming
• We had a wide variety of shots.To start with we took a wide shot of the band playing in
different angles, one from front on and then from the side. We then did some mid shots on each
of the band members starting with Max the lead singer, these shots were taken on a tripod.We
then took a two shot of Max and our Guitarist Giorgio in a mid shot.We then set up the tracks
for some tracking shots with the camera moving around the band, I thought this looked really
cool. We then had a tracking shot going towards the band which also looked visually
interesting.We also took some handheld close up shots of the band members playing their
instruments. After it got dark we then tried to replicate most of the shots that we did in the
light, to give a bit of a contrast, which might give us some more visually appealing footage to
edit with.To end the filming we did a couple of shots of a security guard looking at what the
noise was all about, these were just very simple shots which consisted of an over the shoulder
shot of the security guard looking at the band playing and then did the exact same shot but
without the band and the instruments there, this was to give us a bit of a narrative to work with
if the performance wasn’t enough. But I personally feel that because we were filming in a cool
location and we had great actors that had experience playing in a band and had confidence in
front of the camera that the narrative part of the music video might not be needed.
• To make things more visually appealing we also had a camera looking out at Guildford city
throughout the whole shoot, which will turn into a bit of a time lapse which we will cut to and
from the performance which will hopefully look really cool because it will show the city from
day time to night time.
7. My role
• I personally feel like I didn't’t contribute much at all to the filming process,
I did try to but because we were under quite a lot of pressure with the
timings once a person was set to a specific role they stuck to it because it
just speeded up the process rather than having someone new to do the
role that hadn’t done it would just slow down the process. Its fine though
because I feel that im not the best at the actual production side of the
process of making videos, I feel that I contributed a lot in the pre
production side, I took control of the group in the pre production making
sure every group member did what they were assigned to do, and I did
some important research into conventions of our genre of music
(Alternative American Rock) which should pay off not just for me but the
group in the post production.
