________はなんでか。Translates to: What is _______?
You can fill in that blank with any number of things, but In order to ask
someone what their hobby is, you fill in the blank with the word しゅみ.
• For example:
– しゅみはなんですか。
– What is your hobby?
• If you want to ask a question using names/person, for example:
– せんせいのしゅみはなんですか。
– What is the teacher’s hobby?

Remember that the particle のis like an ‘s.
It is used to indicate possession.
– だいすけさんのしゅみはゴルフです。
– Daisuke’s hobby is golf .

• To ask a person if their (or someone else’s) hobby is a particular thing, you
add the question marker かto the end of your statement.
