1. 文法 LESSON 1 GRAMMAR NOTES
G1. からからからから
You can use からからからから to say “ (A) situation. Because (B).”
The general pattern takes the form of two separate sentences:
(Situation)。 (Reason)から。
A (situation) B (reason)
たいちさん は よく たべますね。 はい、 たべもの が すき です からからからから。。。。
You indicate the situation: “Daichi likes to eat a lot” in the A sentence.
Then, we use the ～から clause to explain the reason:
“Yes, because he likes food.” in the B sentence.
Another example:
わたしわたしわたしわたし はははは すしすしすしすし をををを まいにちまいにちまいにちまいにち たべます。たべます。たべます。たべます。 さかなさかなさかなさかな がががが すきすきすきすき ですですですです からからからから。
In this example, the situation (A) is that “I eat sushi everyday”
and the reason (B) is “because I like fish.”
In this lesson, we’ll use the polite ～～～～ますますますます form with からからからから, although you can use the plain
dictionary form as well.

2. G2. でもでもでもでも
でも can be translated to “but”.
でも always comes at the beginning of the sentence.
We make a statement in the first sentence, and then create a separate sentence beginning with “but.”
This is unlike English grammar, where it would be incorrect to begin a sentence with “but.”
For example:
わたしわたしわたしわたし はははは アメフトアメフトアメフトアメフト* がががが すきすきすきすき です。です。です。です。 でもでもでもでも、、、、 サッカーサッカーサッカーサッカー がががが きらいきらいきらいきらい ですですですです。。。。
I like American football. But, I dislike soccer.

Sometimes がいらいご(foreign loanwords) have too many syllables and are shortened for convenience sake! You
will see this in other examples like: エアコン(short for エアコンディショナー, air conditioner) or or パソコン(short
for パーソナルコンピュータ, personal computer, PC)
G3. がががが USED AS “BUT”
が, when not acting as a subject marker, can also be translated as “but.”
Unlike でも, which can only come at the beginning of a sentence, が is included at the end of the first
clause of the sentence.
Note the placement of the comma in the Japanese vs. the English sentence.
For example:
わたしわたしわたしわたし はははは アメフトアメフトアメフトアメフト がががが すきすきすきすき ですですですです がががが、、、、サッカー が きらい です。
I dislike soccer, but I like American football.

3. G4. ほかにほかにほかにほかに
ほかに is an adverb that can be translated to “any other” or “ anything else.”
It usually comes before an interrogative (like what なになになになに, or what kind of どんなどんなどんなどんな).
For example:
ほかにほかにほかにほかに なになになになに がががが ありますありますありますあります か。か。か。か。
What else is there?
ほかにほかにほかにほかに どんなどんなどんなどんな やさいやさいやさいやさい がががが すきすきすきすき ですですですです か。か。か。か。
Are there any other kinds of vegetables do you like?
ほかにほかにほかにほかに どんなどんなどんなどんな ゲームゲームゲームゲーム がががが ありますありますありますあります かかかか。
What other kinds of games do you have?
