Information Literacy
Information literacy skills are more important
than ever.

Information literacy is a fundamental building
block of learning.

Information literacy is the fourth R – Reading,
Writing, Athematic and Research.
• Problems – Information
  access/overload/quality

• 2/3rds of teens use the internet as their major
  source for research.

• Only 27% of the sites used are reliable.
• The need is to use information and technology
  effectively and efficiently.

• Focus on the process as well as the content.

• The aim is to make students lifelong learners
  and independent thinkers.
• The greatest challenge is the inability to find
  desired materials.

• Procrastination: > 70% of students on > 70% of
  assignments.
• To be an information literate person they must
  be able to recognise when information is
  needed and have the ability to locate,
  evaluate and use effectively the needed
  information.
