Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Research
Leukemia is a common blood cancer that affects both children and adults. Blood work, bone marrow biopsy, and other tests are used to determine
what type of leukemia is present and how advanced it is . These factors plus your age determine how to treat your leukemia. Most treatment plans for
acute lymphoblastic leukemia have 3 steps. These are induction, consolidation, and maintenance.
The first treatment given for the disease is induction therapy. It is often a part of a standard set of treatments, such as surgery followed bychemotherapy
and radiation. Induction therapy targets and eliminates leukemia cells in the blood and bone marrow to induce remission. Induction usually lasts 4
weeks and it is done in a hospital. But some people who

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Research Paper
Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia is a scary disease. The term "acute" means the disease can quickly spread and progress quickly and can prove fatal in
months if left untreated. "Lymphocytic" simply means that it develops from immature forms of lymphocytes. Also known as Acute Lymphoblastic
Leukemia, or ALL for short, it is a type ofcancer that starts from the early form of white blood cells called lymphocytes in the bone marrow. ALL is the
most common form of cancer in children, though adults can get it as well. For children, treatment results in a good chance of a cure. Adults have a
significantly smaller chance of a cure with ALL. ALL generally invades the blood very quickly and has the potential to spread to other body parts such
as the spleen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chemotherapy, Radiation therapy, stem cell transplant, and targeted drug therapy are all forms of treatment for ALL. Chemotherapy is typically used
as induction therapy for kids and adults. Chemotherapy can also be used in consolidation and maintenance therapies. Chemotherapy is given in a
variety of ways. It can be given orally as a pill or liquid. It can be given intravenously by infusion into a vein. A cream on the skin can be given.
Chemotherapy can also be given by direct placement either via lumbar puncture or a device placed just under the scalp. Radiation therapy uses
high–powered beams, such as x–rays, to kill the cancer cells. Radiation therapy is usually recommended when the cancer has spread to the central

The Is The Uncontrolled Growth Of Blood Cancer New Zealand
Leukaemia is the uncontrolled growth of blood cells which occurs in the bone marrow (National Cancer Institute, 2013). Every day six New
Zealanders are diagnosed with some form of blood cancer (Leukaemia and blood cancer New Zealand, 2015). It is believed that more than 10,000
people in New Zealand are affected by blood cancers such as, leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma or related blood diseases (Leukaemia and blood cancer
New Zealand, 2015).Leukaemia is believed to be ten times more common in adults and double as common in males (McKenna, 2000). Blood cancers
are the fifth most common cancer in New Zealand. Furthermore, leukaemia is most common among children in New Zealand (Leukaemia and blood
cancer New Zealand, 2015). This assignment will describe the pathophysiological condition, symptom, current best practice and treatment of Acute
Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL).
Four types of leukaemia
Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) – With this type of leukaemia, a patient's myeloid cells get affected and develop rapidly. Leukemic blast cells
develop in the bone marrow and blood. It is more common in adults (McKenna, 2000).
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) – Patient's with ALL have lymphoid cells affected and it grows rapidly. It is more common in children
(McKenna, 2000).
Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) – It affects myeloid cells and develops slowly initially. In the blood test, high numbers of white blood cells is
seen. There might be the presence of less leukemic blast cells in

Just as Psalm 130:4 has stated, "But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you." He knows what everyone is going
through and He realizes life can be hard at times. God directs our path, so by praying to Him and having patience along with trust in His actions,
everything will eventually be okay somehow. Your faith may be tested through this, but "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you
face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be
mature and complete, not lacking anything.."(James 1:2–8). We need to be able to trust is God. He is the one that created us and made us who He
wants us to be. If you or someone you know has been affected by cancer, realize He has a path for us all to take in each and every one of our lives.
Help someone who is in need just as they are your brother or sister. "And when God had me wander from my father's household, I said to her, 'This is
how you can show your love to me: Everywhere we go, say of me, "He is my brother."" To show our love of God, we can help those we may not even

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
Every organism performs cell division throughout the life. Animals, plants and even prokaryotes, such as bacteria, can't survive without the cell
division because cells are the smallest working units of living things. The cell cycle, or cell–division cycle, is the series of events that take place in a
cell leading to its division and replication that produces two daughter cells.
The cell cycle is composed of two major stages called interphase and mitosis. Interphase takes the most of the time in the cell cycle; interphase can
be divided into G1, S and G2 phase. There is also a phase called G0, which is a stage in which the cells do not divide anymore even if cells need to
be repaired. During the G1 phase, the cell grows and performs activities. In the S phase, cells replicates DNA; replicating DNA is very important
because if the two daughter cells can't be inherited the identical DNA from the parent cell, they won't function out well and eventually die. During the
G2 phase, which is the last phase of interphase, the cell keeps growing and prepares for division. The cell checks the DNA for damage and prepares
for mitosis by producing the proteins needed during cell division. Then, the cell splits the content and the membrane during mitosis and cytokinesis.

Summary Of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is a profound disease that involves an overproduction of immature myeloid and lymphoid cells. Hematopoiesis
is a process where Hemocytoblast stem cells differentiate into a range of progenitor cells. Part of the developmental process for these progenitor cells
occurs in the spleen, liver and lymph nodes. In ALL, clonal cells then take up space within the blood stream, causing the percentage of normal blood
constituents to be out of balance. For example, less erythrocytes are made, putting the suffer at risk of being anemic which has further risks associated
with it. It can be determined that you have ALL from a blood test, chromosome analysis or abone marrow sample. For a blood test, then a complete

1. Cancer, one of the most feared words in our vocabulary of this time, especially in childhood. Most people when thinking of childhood cancer thiks
about very young children, although a Nation Institute of Health Policy concerning inclusion of children in clinical research defines children as being
younger than twenty–one years of age while the Food and Drug Administration considers children to be fifteen years and younger. 1. St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital is one of the premier pediatric cancer research centers in the world. 2. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has helped
drive overall cancer survival rates from less than 20 percent to more than 70 percent, and the survival rate for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most
common form of pediatric cancer, from 4 percent to 94 percent. 1. Most cancers incidence peak among children occurs during the first year of life.
Some of the most well–known nationwide childhood cancers are leukemia, brain cancer, and other central nervous system cancers. The side effects of

Activating mutations in the NT5C2 nucleotidase gene drive chemotherapy resistance in relapsed ALL
Though initial treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) leads to clinical and hematological remission, 20% of pediatric ALL patients and over
50% of adult ALL patients relapse and cannot achieve remission even after intensified therapy, making disease relapse and resistance to therapy the
greatest challenge. This study aims to determine the cellular and genetic mechanisms, specifically with NT5C2, responsible for drug resistance and
relapse in ALL. It was hypothesized that relapse–associated NT5C2 mutations may represent gain–of–function alleles with increased enzymatic activity.

I searched both of the terms using the Boolean Operator "AND" to ensure that my search retrieved sources that had both of my search terms. For my
two–word term, I added quotation marks around it because I wanted to search the two words together. The range of years for publications that
appeared were from 2017 until the year 1958 with a total of 49 different years in between. A total of 6,790 articles were shown. After I limited my
search to only nursing, articles, and articles in press, my total number came down to 113. After I limited my search to the years 2003–2017, only 89
articles remained. After performing a Google search on the author with the highest cited article using the specified format, I retrieved a total of 1,460

Introduction of Disease Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), also known as acute lymphoid or lymphocytic leukemia, is a cancer of the white blood
cells (McCoy, 2015). More specifically, it is a cancerous conversion and procreation of lymphoid progenitor cells in the blood, extramedullary sites,
and in the bone marrow (Terwilliger, Abdul–Hay, 2017). In 2017, 62,130 people were expected to be diagnosed with leukemia and there were an
estimated 363,794 people living with or in remission from leukemia in the United States alone (The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 2017); In the

The abnormal behavior of the white blood cells decreases the body's ability to fight off infections and lead to a decrease of other blood cells. ALL is
deadlier in adults but has a high survival rate in children. Most children are cured after treatment and the number of adults in remission has grown in
the past decades.

have an impact on the elderly. However leukemia is mainly found in the bone marrow which I will emphasize throughout this essay. In this paper I
will be explaining the cause of this disease, what the 4 main types of leukemia are, who are mainly at risks to get this disease; also I will touch on the
current research and the sign and symptoms of this disease. There are four main types of Leukemia which are Acute myeloid, Chronic lymphocytic,
Acute lymphoblastic and Chronic myeloid these are all different types of leukemia. Mainly I will be focusing on acute lymphocytic leukemia. However

show right away, others may come and go and some may take a long time to appear. Individuals may have fever without any cause; you might notice
some bruising on an individual's body. They might be tired all the time and may complain of joint pain and body pain ( Keene, 2015). However some
may show signs of weight loss. Individuals may have loss of appetite. Some oral symptoms that may show are bleeding gums. A person who has
encountered this disease may have enlarged lymph nodes in the neck. People might also complain of abdominal discomfort. You may also notice that
individual has red spots on their skin. Anemia is another symptom of this disease. Although some symptoms show a sign of lymphoblastic leukemia
there are many symptoms that rarely show a sign that one may have the disease.
Patients may undergo a series of treatment such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and stem cell transplant. If patients symptoms disappear therapy
may still be needed to prevent relapse (Bernard & Tia, 2011). Children who have this disease undergo different regimens than any adult would

The question that the patients always ask is, what about a healthy life? What about the parts of their life they have already lost? All the treatments,
radiations, and chemotherapy they have already gone through; they have scars so big that nothing they do can hide them. What about all the
things that they missed out on because of all the time they had to be in the hospital? Many doctors stated that they would help or treat anyone "no
matter what" the issue may be, not in the case of three year old Amy. Research has shown me that this little girl was refused to be helped with her
disease because of the families' inability to pay right away, because of not having a good enough insurance to cover the bills. Already slowly
losing their lives anyways, the hospital refusing to treat them was killing them faster than what was going to be expected. This poor little girl
already in the twenty percent category slowly but surely easing her way to death because of not receiving the help she needed. If you are unable to
pay because of your insurance or whatever the reason may be, doctors or even the hospitals should not deny helping you or your children live their
lives or even are helped to stay alive maybe a few days more if anything. The national marrow donors program stated that nearly 4,000 new cases of

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia(ALL), also known as lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma in the WHO classification, is a malignant expansion of
immature lymphoid cells that results from multi–step genetic changes in a single lymphoid progenitor cell. Its incidence peaks between the ages of 2
and 4 years(1(.
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common malignancy in children (2). ALL causes 77% of children leukemia, and acute myeloblastic
leukemia (AML) counts for 11% (3). ALL is categorized based on cytogenetic and molecular criteria into a few subgroups for diagnosis, prognosis and
treatment (4–6).
There is not any comprehensive information available in Iran about the prevalence of leukemia; however research indicates a high prevalence (7).
Research showed that the prevalence of leukemia is 16.2% in Iran, which is a higher prevalence compared with skin, lung and breast cancers (8).

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia ( All )
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a malignant disorder of lymphoid progenitor cells, is the most common hematological malignancy affects
children, accounting for 25–30% of all childhood cancers with peak prevalence between the ages of 2 and 5 years [1]. The causes of pediatric acute
leukemias are still not well known, the identification of causes and prevention/early intervention is clearly a worthwhile goal [2]. Previous studies have
demonstrated that the interaction between genetic background, lifestyle, and these environmental factors play a critical role in the development of
ALL in children [3]. MicroRNAs are a class of small (17–25 nucleotides) single–stranded noncoding RNAs that function as a sequence–targeted
modifiers of gene expression through translational repression [4]. The miRNAs are important key regulators of normal hematopoiesis and their
disruption could lead to leukemogenesis [5]. Mutations like single–nucleotide polymorphisms located in microRNA binding sites can cause disruption
in microRNA–target interactions, leading to deregulation of the target gene expression [6]. One of these SNPs is the one found within the miR–502
binding site in the 3′–UTR of the SET8 gene. SET8 (also known as PR–SET7; located on chromosome 12q24.31) encodes a histone
H4–Lys–20–specific methyltransferase which plays an important role in cell cycle–dependent transcriptional silencing and mitotic regulation [7].
There are about 129 variants of the SET8 gene

time and led both the business and philanthropic communities, alike, in the effort to better society. He was an entrepreneurial and philanthropic leader
due to his commitment to his vision and his continual recognition of the potential he had to thwart society's injustice and misdeeds. Consequently, with
an undying commitment to one's endeavors, as well as constant recognition of what one can do in order to combat the wrongs of the world, true,
impactful leadership can form at the intersection of philanthropy and entrepreneurship.
Without commitment, no vision can come to fruition. Great tasks require great dedication. Especially when balancing both entrepreneurship and
philanthropy, commitment is integral to every endeavor. For example, without Steve Job's commitment to becoming a revolutionary innovator, the
devices we hold in our hands everyday would be nonexistent, as would be his charitable and humanitarian efforts. However, with ardent fervor he
thrived in entrepreneurship, founding the world's most well–known tech company, and, subsequently, philanthropy, donating many of the funds that he
raised to noble causes. Dedication was his key to success, putting his whole heart in every task that he undertook. Thus, in order to maximize the
opportunities at the crossroads of philanthropy and entrepreneurship, this undying pursuance is necessary for successful leaders. Furthermore,
recognition of one's abilities to affect positive change is intrinsic to leading any mission. The ability to perceive, beyond oneself, is the key to locating
and targeting a problem with success. For entrepreneurship and philanthropy to thrive

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Case Study
After their successful work with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, St. Jude Children's Hospital decided to expand their efforts outwards and focus on
another type of leukemia that attacks the lives of children every year. Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a cancer that begins in bone marrow and quickly
multiplies and spreads to white blood cells, makes up 20% of all childhood leukemia (Pui 51). The first AML study at St. Jude began in 1986. Before
the start of this project, only one child out of every 58 children suffering from this illness survived for a time greater than five years; however, by the
end of the first study completed in 1973, the rate of remission had increased to 66%. Although St. Jude was ecstatic that they had brought the rate of

Jude has continued to go beyond other hospitals in the United States when it comes to research in the Pediatric Genome Project. Organizing the genetic
base of complex diseases like pediatric cancer has been the hardest challenge scientists have had to overcome in order to understand the molecular
background of certain disease (Hussain). In order to create a treatment with the hopes of ending childhood cancer, St. Jude Children's Hospital
recognized the importance of designing a project that would allow them to organize the "landscape" of certain mutations commonly appeared in a
specific disease. In January 2010, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital collaborated with Washington University to play an essential role in completing
the Pediatric Cancer Genome Project, an international effort to identify the genetic mutations that cause the formation of cancer tumors and to develop
new treatments to target these illnesses. This three– year, $65 million dollar project was developed in order to sequence the genetic orientation of over
600 pediatric tumors and non–tumor "germline" samples. After the completion of this project, researchers were shocked at the success from this project
(Downing). This study concluded that "variations in repetitive DNA sequences, heterogeneity within tumor samples, and mutations affecting the
regulatory regions of genes" are the focus of the Pediatric Cancer Genome Project's team after completing their complex study of the genome

Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Genefer Duran Cancer can be observed through a realm of different perspectives, ranging from religion to science. For our purposes, we will be
evaluating the biological and psychological effects childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) can have on children. Childhood ALL is the
formation of abnormal white cells within our bone marrow. Unlike Chronic lymphocytic leukemia, childhood ALL occurs rapidly with great intensity.
Normally, our bone marrow functions to produce a variety of cells including, white blood cells, which assist our immune system in fighting viruses,
red blood cells, which transport oxygen and carbon dioxide, and platelets, which prevent bleeding in our body. "In a healthy child, the bone marrow

For example, sometimes the placebo effect can impact the speed at which an individual's cancer is accelerating. The placebo effect can alter the
way an individual thinks by making them believe that a treatment is actually a drug. However, instead, the pill actually given to them is a sugar pill
or a pill that is unrelated to their treatment. Therefore, the placebo effect is often effective because the individual blindly believes that this new
"drug" will work and cure them.[6] According to the The National Cancer Institute 1 in 3 people will actually experience the placebo effect. On the
other hand, the placebo effect can also have a negative impact by blindly convincing the individual that the pill consumed will result in undesirable
side effects: nausea, headaches, anxiety, etc. In fact, scientific evidence suggests that the placebo effect effectiveness is partly due to the release of
endorphins in the brain. According to The National Cancer Institute, "...natural endorphins may relieve pain once they are released, some research
shows the brain may respond to an imagined scene much as it would to something it actually sees. A placebo may help the brain remember a time
before the symptoms and bring about certain chemical changes. This is a theory called remembered wellness." [7] Essentially, what this does is

Health Of Kicker With Type B, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Kicker, a 3 year–old boy, who has never been to a doctor, never received any type of shot or poke, eaten a clean, nutrient dense diet throughout his
short three years and never had anything toxic on his skin, was sitting in the cold hospital room waiting for news of a diagnosis. Nurses came in and
out of the waiting room, bringing in needles, advice, paperwork and machines. All of which were intimidating to a 3 year–old and his mother, Season,
who happened to be a holistic nutritionist. A nurse came into the waiting room and informed Season that an Oncologist needed to speak with her. At
that moment, Season began holding her jaw tight to fight back the tears knowing that Oncologist specialized in cancer. Unfortunately, the Oncologist ...

While Season felt completely broken–down, she knew that she had no choice but to bring her background in nutrition to her own home. To build
Kicker's immunity Season implemented The Ketogenic Diet. The human body produces cancerous cells daily, so building a strong immunity is
imperative when fighting off cancer cells and the harsh chemicals from treatment. The Ketogenic Diet is a new cancer treatment, which is free, with
virtually no side effects. It can also be conjoined with other cancer treatments. The diet involves cutting carbohydrates, beginning with the worst
carbohydrate of all, sugar (Johnson L, 2013). It is a high–fat, adequate–protein, low–carbohydrate diet. The diet forces the body to burn fats rather than
carbohydrates. Normally the carbohydrates contained in food are converted into glucose, which are then transported around the body. However, if
there are little carbohydrates in the diet then the liver converts fat into fatty acids and ketone bodies. Ketone bodies are water molecules that are
produced when the body is consuming very little food, which mimics fasting. Cancer is an obligate glucose metabolizer because it fuels on sugar.
One's normal cells have the metabolic flexibility to adapt from saving glucose by using ketone bodies (Johnson S, 2014). This addressed that because

Leukemia And Lymphoma Society : History
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
History of the Organization
The nonprofit Leukemia and Lymphoma society came about from the sorrow of a couple whose son lost his life in 1944. His name was RobbieRobert
Roesler de Villiers, part of a well–off family based in New York. Leukemia was the cause of his death at the early age of 16. Following their son's
death, his parents, Rudolph and Antoinette, began an organization in 1949 under his name. The product of their efforts was run out of a Wall Street
office, consisting of a small team of devoted volunteers. During this time leukemia had a 100% fatality rate as of 1955, with most patients with the
disease losing their lives within a period of three months. The de Villiers' held a resounding work ethic and belief that blood cancers were curable, and
so the Foundation saw consistent growth. When the year 1960 came about the organization was rebranded as The Leukemia Society of America in
order to extend its horizons.
Within more recent years, 2000 saw the organization rebranded to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which brought with it a surge of centralization and
mutual asset sharing in urban areas with high populations. The current headquarters of the LLS is found in White Plains, New York. Chapters may be
found within Canada and America now. They have also entered the field of representing medical interests to government policy makers in terms of
healthcare structure focus. Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the largest health focused

Pros And Cons Of Human Genetic Engineering
Why are humans stuck how they are? Why do some have lethal flaws? Why do theses flaws exist? The correct answer is they don't have to: Human
genetic engineering can solve some of theses lethal issues now and can solve more in the future. It can help the next generation experience what
everyone strives to achieve. Human genetic engineering research should continue because it can save people's lives, improve human's lives and
improve the lives of the next generation of children. Human genetic engineering can save people's lives now and could save more in the future.
According to a New Scientist article (Le Page, 2015), Layla was three months when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a kind of
cancer in the bone marrow. She underwent other treatments like chemotherapy, but those failed so she underwentgene therapy by using the TALEN
protein to edit her genes to produce a cancer fighting T cell called UCRAT19; She survived and thrived (Le Page 2015). Saving someone's life
through human genetic engineering doesn't even have to be as complicated as altering genes. According to TIME Health (Park, 2014), Mya
Burkhart was six months old when her parents started to look for a cure to her rare mutation in the gene for citrate. This mutation prevented certain
parts of her from getting enough energy, causing breathing and development problems, and after having no luck with any other diagnosis, a genetic
scan figured out what the issue was and gave her citrate supplements (Alice Park, 2014). Both Layla's and Mya's lives were saved because of human
genetic engineering. Layla was cured of cancer because of human genetic engineering, which is one toughest diseases for humans to cure right now,
while Layla's cancer was cured, but Mya's condition was only treated so maybe if human genetic engineering could continue a cure could be
developed to improve her life. Human genetic engineering is not only useful for people in terminal situations it's also useful for the average person.
Evan Dashevsky describes this in an article he wrote about his experience with human genetic engineering (Dashevsky, 2017). He had a severe back
problem that prevented him from running and had to walk with a cane, while only in his

Nursing and Midwifery 2014). Jenny remains very tired, weak and in pain (School of Nursing and Midwifery 2014). A regular position changes can
provide comfort for someone with pneumonia (Swearingen 2016, p. 118). Common nursing interventions for fatigue and activity intolerance is to set
mutually agreed goals for the patient so they can begin to tolerate activities, stress the importance of good nutrition to help with their energy levels,
provide rest periods for the patient to regain energy stores and decreases the risk of the patient becoming emotionally exhausted (Swearingen 2016, p.

Medication
Pneumonia is the inflammation of the respiratory bronchioles and alveoli (Hales 2014, p. 1251). This can be caused by pathogens entering into the
lung through coughs, aspirations, talk, sneezing or the bloodstream and develop an infection (Hales 2014, p. 1252).

The Childhood Of Teenage Hood
Michelle, an eleven year old girl, enjoys the typical activities a girl her age would like to do. That is why I thought going to the mall with Michelle,
her mother and her little brother would be a good idea. During our day at the mall and our talk after lunch, I was able to get an insight into her
psychological development as a pre–teen. Not only was Michelle dealing with the transformation from childhood to teenage hood, but was also
struggling with understanding her medical setbacks as a child. At age 3 Michelle's parents found out that she was suffering from leukemia. This
changed majority of Michelle's childhood. By age 5 Michelle was free of her cancer and able to continue most her life normally. In reality, Michelle
will never be able to live her life normally because she will always live the fact that she had an illness. Because Michelle had leukemia as a child, it
seemed that her awareness of herself wasn't the same as other girls her age.
A commonly known stereotype that is understood by most people is that women have lower self–esteem than men. Preteen girls are at a much greater

adolescent boys reported lower self–esteem than younger boys." (Polce–Lynch,

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Research Paper
Introduction
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a fast–growing cancer of the blood and the soft tissue inside the bones (bone marrow). Normally, bone marrow
makes immature cells (blast cells) that develop into important immune cells (lymphocytes) or other mature blood cells. These mature cells help to fight
infection, carry oxygen, and stop bleeding.
ALL causes the bone marrow to make abnormal or unformed blast cells that develop into leukemia cells. The leukemia cells take up space in the blood
where healthy cells would normally be functioning. These abnormal leukemia cells do not fight infection or carry out other important functions in the
blood. As a result, symptoms of infection and illness appear. ALL rapidly gets worse (progresses)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Essay
Introduction
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia, also called acute lymphocytic leukemia, acute lymphoid leukemia, or ALL; is the most common cancer in childhood.
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia has a higher rate of affecting Caucasians than
African Americans and is more commonly diagnosed in males. Studies have found that genetics may predispose children to develop leukemia. Several
studies have been conducted trying to link environmental factors, such as: exposure to pesticides and herbicides; maternal use of alcohol, cigarettes,
and contraceptives; and chemical contamination of groundwater to the diagnosis of leukemia, but currently no definitively link to childhood has been
established. [3]
Pathogenesis
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the abnormal white blood cells accumulating in bone marrow. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia rapidly spreads through
the body by replacing healthy cells with leukemia cells. Leukemia cells are carried in the blood stream to other organs such as the liver, spleen, lymph

Children 's Hospital : A Important Part Of Any Functioning...
Children's Hospital
Medicine is a very important part of any functioning society. A person uses medicine on a daily basis. Whether it is to treat a mild cold or to tame a
chronic sickness, we can not live without medicine. Advancements in medicine have helped people live better lives and also dramatically increase life
expectancy. During the late 1800 and early 1900s medicine was obviously at a very primitive state. Because of this, it was easier for a sick person to
suffer fatal consequences. With how intense the environment was, it was even more difficult for young children to stay healthy. This is the sole
purpose of establishing the Children's Hospital. This hospital was meant to help and treat sick children. This is something of impact because the
hospital is dedicated to treating kids and younger individuals. These kids are the ones who will one day continue to develop the towns and cities of this
country.
Children's hospital was established in the summer of 1897. The hospital did not treat older children until later; it first began as a treatment option for
babies. As with any business, the beginnings of the hospital were small and humble; it began as a tent hospital which offered treatment to kids up to
the of five. The cool air in Denver was considered to be a cure for various illnesses. Because of this, the Colorado air and sunshine were the first form
of treatment for these kids the hospital actually began with around six volunteers, very small. As the need for

Roughly 8% of all human cancers are Leukemia, with acute leukemia accounting for about 50% of these cases. When white blood cell (WBC)

The Concept Of Self Care
Concept analysis is a combination of seven steps that work together to clarify concepts in our nursing practice (McEwen & Wills, 2014). The term
self–care is a concept from Orem's self–care deficit theory. The purpose of this concept analysis is to clarify the concept and determine how it is used
in the nursing practice, particularly with rehabilitation patients. We will further explore this concept with literature reviews, the possible uses of this
concept, its attributes, model and alternative cases, antecedents and consequences, and finally empirical referents. Aim of Analysis The aim of this
concept analysis is to clearly define the concept of self–care in relation to rehabilitation patients. The characteristics of self–care will be further
explored and explained, as well as its importance to nursing practice. By understanding the concept better, nurses will be able to be more involved in
the patient's care and increase the rate of their recovery (Arman & Hok, 2015). Literature Review According to Hashemi et al. (2013), promoting
self–care with patients gives them more control over their lives – leading to an improved quality of life. The article emphasized the importance of
empowering patients to perform activities independently. Orem's self–care model was used as a clinical guideline for the self–care programs they
developed for the patients. There were three different care models they focused on depending on the patient's needs and conditions. If the patient

affect people at all ages and is known for relapsing which makes it a prime candidate for research in order to improve diagnostic and treatment
techniques (Tabe and Konopleya). Due to this research, the five–year survival rate of patients with ALL has increased to 85% (Winther... Show more

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Research

  • 1. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Research Leukemia is a common blood cancer that affects both children and adults. Blood work, bone marrow biopsy, and other tests are used to determine what type of leukemia is present and how advanced it is . These factors plus your age determine how to treat your leukemia. Most treatment plans for acute lymphoblastic leukemia have 3 steps. These are induction, consolidation, and maintenance. The first treatment given for the disease is induction therapy. It is often a part of a standard set of treatments, such as surgery followed bychemotherapy and radiation. Induction therapy targets and eliminates leukemia cells in the blood and bone marrow to induce remission. Induction usually lasts 4 weeks and it is done in a hospital. But some people who ... • 2. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Research Paper Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia is a scary disease. The term "acute" means the disease can quickly spread and progress quickly and can prove fatal in months if left untreated. "Lymphocytic" simply means that it develops from immature forms of lymphocytes. Also known as Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, or ALL for short, it is a type ofcancer that starts from the early form of white blood cells called lymphocytes in the bone marrow. ALL is the most common form of cancer in children, though adults can get it as well. For children, treatment results in a good chance of a cure. Adults have a significantly smaller chance of a cure with ALL. ALL generally invades the blood very quickly and has the potential to spread to other body parts such as the spleen, ... Chemotherapy is typically used as induction therapy for kids and adults. Chemotherapy can also be used in consolidation and maintenance therapies. Chemotherapy is given in a variety of ways. It can be given orally as a pill or liquid. It can be given intravenously by infusion into a vein. A cream on the skin can be given. Chemotherapy can also be given by direct placement either via lumbar puncture or a device placed just under the scalp. Radiation therapy uses high–powered beams, such as x–rays, to kill the cancer cells. Radiation therapy is usually recommended when the cancer has spread to the central nervous ... Every day six New Zealanders are diagnosed with some form of blood cancer (Leukaemia and blood cancer New Zealand, 2015). It is believed that more than 10,000 people in New Zealand are affected by blood cancers such as, leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma or related blood diseases (Leukaemia and blood cancer New Zealand, 2015).Leukaemia is believed to be ten times more common in adults and double as common in males (McKenna, 2000). Blood cancers are the fifth most common cancer in New Zealand. Furthermore, leukaemia is most common among children in New Zealand (Leukaemia and blood cancer New Zealand, 2015). This assignment will describe the pathophysiological condition, symptom, current best practice and treatment of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). Four types of leukaemia Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) – With this type of leukaemia, a patient's myeloid cells get affected and develop rapidly. Leukemic blast cells develop in the bone marrow and blood. It is more common in adults (McKenna, 2000). Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) – Patient's with ALL have lymphoid cells affected and it grows rapidly. It is more common in children (McKenna, 2000). • 5. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia ( All ) Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) Every organism performs cell division throughout the life. Animals, plants and even prokaryotes, such as bacteria, can't survive without the cell division because cells are the smallest working units of living things. The cell cycle, or cell–division cycle, is the series of events that take place in a cell leading to its division and replication that produces two daughter cells. (http://www.bdbiosciences.com/br/research/apoptosis/analysis/index.jsp) The cell cycle is composed of two major stages called interphase and mitosis. Interphase takes the most of the time in the cell cycle; interphase can be divided into G1, S and G2 phase. There is also a phase called G0, which is a stage in which the cells do not divide anymore even if cells need to be repaired. During the G1 phase, the cell grows and performs activities. In the S phase, cells replicates DNA; replicating DNA is very important because if the two daughter cells can't be inherited the identical DNA from the parent cell, they won't function out well and eventually die. During the G2 phase, which is the last phase of interphase, the cell keeps growing and prepares for division. The cell checks the DNA for damage and prepares for mitosis by producing the proteins needed during cell division. Then, the cell splits the content and the membrane during mitosis and cytokinesis. Hematopoiesis is a process where Hemocytoblast stem cells differentiate into a range of progenitor cells. Part of the developmental process for these progenitor cells occurs in the spleen, liver and lymph nodes. • 23. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia ( All ) Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a malignant disorder of lymphoid progenitor cells, is the most common hematological malignancy affects children, accounting for 25–30% of all childhood cancers with peak prevalence between the ages of 2 and 5 years [1]. The causes of pediatric acute leukemias are still not well known, the identification of causes and prevention/early intervention is clearly a worthwhile goal [2]. Previous studies have demonstrated that the interaction between genetic background, lifestyle, and these environmental factors play a critical role in the development of ALL in children [3]. MicroRNAs are a class of small (17–25 nucleotides) single–stranded noncoding RNAs that function as a sequence–targeted modifiers of gene expression through translational repression [4]. The miRNAs are important key regulators of normal hematopoiesis and their disruption could lead to leukemogenesis [5]. Mutations like single–nucleotide polymorphisms located in microRNA binding sites can cause disruption in microRNA–target interactions, leading to deregulation of the target gene expression [6]. One of these SNPs is the one found within the miR–502 binding site in the 3′–UTR of the SET8 gene. SET8 (also known as PR–SET7; located on chromosome 12q24.31) encodes a histone H4–Lys–20–specific methyltransferase which plays an important role in cell cycle–dependent transcriptional silencing and mitotic regulation [7]. • 24. The Characteristics Of Impactful Leadership In Jackson Vs.... 1. E. Bronson Ingram was known for his strong leadership in both the business world and through his philanthropic efforts. Describe which leadership characteristics you believe to be essential for creating greater opportunities at the intersection of entrepreneurship and high impact philanthropy. Andrew Carnegie once claimed that "No man becomes rich unless he enriches others." Carnegie, alongside other captains of industry, such as Cornelius Vanderbilt, pioneered the pairing of entrepreneurship andphilanthropy, through inspiring leadership. He witnessed the poverty and destitution of the time and led both the business and philanthropic communities, alike, in the effort to better society. He was an entrepreneurial and philanthropic leader due to his commitment to his vision and his continual recognition of the potential he had to thwart society's injustice and misdeeds. Consequently, with an undying commitment to one's endeavors, as well as constant recognition of what one can do in order to combat the wrongs of the world, true, impactful leadership can form at the intersection of philanthropy and entrepreneurship. Without commitment, no vision can come to fruition. Great tasks require great dedication. Especially when balancing both entrepreneurship and philanthropy, commitment is integral to every endeavor. For example, without Steve Job's commitment to becoming a revolutionary innovator, the devices we hold in our hands everyday would be nonexistent, as would be his charitable and humanitarian efforts. However, with ardent fervor he thrived in entrepreneurship, founding the world's most well–known tech company, and, subsequently, philanthropy, donating many of the funds that he raised to noble causes. Dedication was his key to success, putting his whole heart in every task that he undertook. Thus, in order to maximize the opportunities at the crossroads of philanthropy and entrepreneurship, this undying pursuance is necessary for successful leaders. Furthermore, recognition of one's abilities to affect positive change is intrinsic to leading any mission. The ability to perceive, beyond oneself, is the key to locating and targeting a problem with success. For entrepreneurship and philanthropy to thrive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The placebo effect can alter the way an individual thinks by making them believe that a treatment is actually a drug. However, instead, the pill actually given to them is a sugar pill or a pill that is unrelated to their treatment. Therefore, the placebo effect is often effective because the individual blindly believes that this new "drug" will work and cure them.[6] According to the The National Cancer Institute 1 in 3 people will actually experience the placebo effect. On the other hand, the placebo effect can also have a negative impact by blindly convincing the individual that the pill consumed will result in undesirable side effects: nausea, headaches, anxiety, etc. In fact, scientific evidence suggests that the placebo effect effectiveness is partly due to the release of endorphins in the brain. According to The National Cancer Institute, "...natural endorphins may relieve pain once they are released, some research shows the brain may respond to an imagined scene much as it would to something it actually sees. As stated by Seth Adam Smith, in "Real Love Is a Choice", he too believes that real love is not just a "euphoric, spontaneous feeling–it is a deliberate choice–a plan to love each other for better and worse, for richer and poorer, in sickness and in health". For instance, this is an example of my parents' relationship of February, 2003; through the four years of their relationship, they had successfully gone through it without any struggles or obstacles, but as they were approaching their... • 31. Pros And Cons Of Human Genetic Engineering Why are humans stuck how they are? Why do some have lethal flaws? Why do theses flaws exist? The correct answer is they don't have to: Human genetic engineering can solve some of theses lethal issues now and can solve more in the future. It can help the next generation experience what everyone strives to achieve. Human genetic engineering research should continue because it can save people's lives, improve human's lives and improve the lives of the next generation of children. Human genetic engineering can save people's lives now and could save more in the future. According to a New Scientist article (Le Page, 2015), Layla was three months when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a kind of cancer in the bone marrow. She underwent other treatments like chemotherapy, but those failed so she underwentgene therapy by using the TALEN protein to edit her genes to produce a cancer fighting T cell called UCRAT19; She survived and thrived (Le Page 2015). Saving someone's life through human genetic engineering doesn't even have to be as complicated as altering genes. According to TIME Health (Park, 2014), Mya Burkhart was six months old when her parents started to look for a cure to her rare mutation in the gene for citrate. This mutation prevented certain parts of her from getting enough energy, causing breathing and development problems, and after having no luck with any other diagnosis, a genetic scan figured out what the issue was and gave her citrate supplements (Alice Park, 2014). Both Layla's and Mya's lives were saved because of human genetic engineering. Layla was cured of cancer because of human genetic engineering, which is one toughest diseases for humans to cure right now, while Layla's cancer was cured, but Mya's condition was only treated so maybe if human genetic engineering could continue a cure could be developed to improve her life. Human genetic engineering is not only useful for people in terminal situations it's also useful for the average person. Evan Dashevsky describes this in an article he wrote about his experience with human genetic engineering (Dashevsky, 2017). He had a severe back problem that prevented him from running and had to walk with a cane, while only in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She is a nine–year–old girl who is in remission from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (School of Nursing and Midwifery 2014). She has been diagnosed with community acquired right middle lobe pneumonia (School of Nursing and Midwifery 2014). To integrate theory and practise, a sim scenario occurred where Jenny Coste developed an adverse drug reaction to her antibiotic, cefotaxime. The antibiotic was stopped immediately and a number of events occurred during the session to care for Jenny. A discussion of the care given to Jenny will be provided with recommendations for more care. Objective and subjective data from Jenny's case will be analysed. Additionally, the antibiotic,... Jenny remains very tired, weak and in pain (School of Nursing and Midwifery 2014). A regular position changes can provide comfort for someone with pneumonia (Swearingen 2016, p. 118). Common nursing interventions for fatigue and activity intolerance is to set mutually agreed goals for the patient so they can begin to tolerate activities, stress the importance of good nutrition to help with their energy levels, provide rest periods for the patient to regain energy stores and decreases the risk of the patient becoming emotionally exhausted (Swearingen 2016, p. 19). Developing a plan of care is important to provide continuity of care (Ingham–Broomfield 2015, p. 249). Medication Pneumonia is the inflammation of the respiratory bronchioles and alveoli (Hales 2014, p. 1251). This can be caused by pathogens entering into the lung through coughs, aspirations, talk, sneezing or the bloodstream and develop an infection (Hales 2014, p. 1252). • 33. The Childhood Of Teenage Hood Michelle, an eleven year old girl, enjoys the typical activities a girl her age would like to do. That is why I thought going to the mall with Michelle, her mother and her little brother would be a good idea. During our day at the mall and our talk after lunch, I was able to get an insight into her psychological development as a pre–teen. Not only was Michelle dealing with the transformation from childhood to teenage hood, but was also struggling with understanding her medical setbacks as a child. At age 3 Michelle's parents found out that she was suffering from leukemia. This changed majority of Michelle's childhood. By age 5 Michelle was free of her cancer and able to continue most her life normally. In reality, Michelle will never be able to live her life normally because she will always live the fact that she had an illness. Because Michelle had leukemia as a child, it seemed that her awareness of herself wasn't the same as other girls her age. A commonly known stereotype that is understood by most people is that women have lower self–esteem than men. Preteen girls are at a much greater risk than adults at being influenced by outside stimuli that can cause self–esteem to lower. I think that girls tend to have a harder time at the beginning of puberty, while boys have a harder time later in puberty. Research shows that "girls reported lower self–esteem than boys in early adolescence and late adolescent boys reported lower self–esteem than younger boys." (Polce–Lynch, ... • 34. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Research Paper Introduction Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a fast–growing cancer of the blood and the soft tissue inside the bones (bone marrow). Normally, bone marrow makes immature cells (blast cells) that develop into important immune cells (lymphocytes) or other mature blood cells. These mature cells help to fight infection, carry oxygen, and stop bleeding. ALL causes the bone marrow to make abnormal or unformed blast cells that develop into leukemia cells. The leukemia cells take up space in the blood where healthy cells would normally be functioning. These abnormal leukemia cells do not fight infection or carry out other important functions in the blood. As a result, symptoms of infection and illness appear. ALL rapidly gets worse (progresses)... Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia has a higher rate of affecting Caucasians than African Americans and is more commonly diagnosed in males. Studies have found that genetics may predispose children to develop leukemia. Several studies have been conducted trying to link environmental factors, such as: exposure to pesticides and herbicides; maternal use of alcohol, cigarettes, and contraceptives; and chemical contamination of groundwater to the diagnosis of leukemia, but currently no definitively link to childhood has been established. [3] Pathogenesis Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the abnormal white blood cells accumulating in bone marrow. • 40. Children 's Hospital : A Important Part Of Any Functioning... Children's Hospital Medicine is a very important part of any functioning society. A person uses medicine on a daily basis. Whether it is to treat a mild cold or to tame a chronic sickness, we can not live without medicine. Advancements in medicine have helped people live better lives and also dramatically increase life expectancy. During the late 1800 and early 1900s medicine was obviously at a very primitive state. Because of this, it was easier for a sick person to suffer fatal consequences. With how intense the environment was, it was even more difficult for young children to stay healthy. This is the sole purpose of establishing the Children's Hospital. This hospital was meant to help and treat sick children. This is something of impact because the hospital is dedicated to treating kids and younger individuals. These kids are the ones who will one day continue to develop the towns and cities of this country. Children's hospital was established in the summer of 1897. The hospital did not treat older children until later; it first began as a treatment option for babies. As with any business, the beginnings of the hospital were small and humble; it began as a tent hospital which offered treatment to kids up to the of five. The cool air in Denver was considered to be a cure for various illnesses. Because of this, the Colorado air and sunshine were the first form of treatment for these kids the hospital actually began with around six volunteers, very small. As the need for ... Pathophysiology: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Pathophysiology Paper Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Roughly 8% of all human cancers are Leukemia, with acute leukemia accounting for about 50% of these cases. When white blood cell (WBC) precursors increase rapidly in numbers in the bone marrow and lymphatic tissues, a harmful disease of the blood–forming organs known as acute leukemia occurs. When this takes place, the cells will, after a while, spread to the blood and all body tissues near the surfaces of organs or the external parts of the body. When Leukemia progresses at a fast pace, it is considered acute. This condition has a 100% mortality within days or months when left untreated (Nursing Central, 2015). • 43. The Concept Of Self Care Concept analysis is a combination of seven steps that work together to clarify concepts in our nursing practice (McEwen & Wills, 2014). The term self–care is a concept from Orem's self–care deficit theory. The purpose of this concept analysis is to clarify the concept and determine how it is used in the nursing practice, particularly with rehabilitation patients. We will further explore this concept with literature reviews, the possible uses of this concept, its attributes, model and alternative cases, antecedents and consequences, and finally empirical referents. Aim of Analysis The aim of this concept analysis is to clearly define the concept of self–care in relation to rehabilitation patients. The characteristics of self–care will be further explored and explained, as well as its importance to nursing practice. By understanding the concept better, nurses will be able to be more involved in the patient's care and increase the rate of their recovery (Arman & Hok, 2015). Literature Review According to Hashemi et al. (2013), promoting self–care with patients gives them more control over their lives – leading to an improved quality of life. The article emphasized the importance of empowering patients to perform activities independently. Orem's self–care model was used as a clinical guideline for the self–care programs they developed for the patients.
