The formal proposal explains my ideal target audience and initial ideas about the front cover, contents page and double page spread

1. Formal Proposal
The mastheadof the magazine Iwishto produce is‘FreshSide Stories’relatedtothe genre R&B.The
reasonwhyI have chosenthe genre R&B isbecause I am extremelyinterestedinthe genre therefore
knowa lot aboutit.Also,one of the tasks wasto ask people whatgenre theyprefer;Igave the
optionsR&B,Jazz and Rock.The majoritychose R&Bbecause theywere alsointerestedinthe genre
and knewa lotaboutit. Thisalsoprovidessupporttome whencreatingmyfinal outcome.
For my magazine Ihave an ideal targetaudience andhere isthe profile of apersonthatwouldfit
thisaudience.Kieranisa 20 yearold, mixedrace AfricanBritish male.Kieranwouldbe a
stereotypical sportymale interestedinthe likesof football andbasketball makinghimveryphysically
strongand healthy.He wouldalsobe interestedingoingoutwithhisfriendsandsocialising
regularly.
I have some initial ideasaboutthe frontcoverandwhatI will include. The masthead ‘FreshSide
Stories’ will be writteningraffiti styledwriting,consistingof the coloursgreen,goldand white.The
mainimage will consistof twoteenagers,one blackandthe otherwhite,facing back-to-backlooking
directlyatthe camera in a mid-shot.The backgroundwill be aseriesof photosof graffiti collaged
together.The coverlinesIwill be includingare ‘Jamesbringsusthe nextkingof R&B,MC Malik’
‘Exclusive interviewwithLewisRogersonurbanfashion’‘S.Johnsonrevealstop50 R&B songs of all
time’and‘Your guide tothe best:Cars, TV Shows,Fashion,R&Bmusic,Celebrities’. The mainimage
will be linkedtothe coverline aboutMalikfollowingthe typical convention.Iwill alsoinclude the
mostimportantpiecesof informationthatmake the magazine professionalandrealistic,the
barcode,issue numberandthe price (Whichwill be £2 because the feedbackonthe questionnaire
mainlyaskedforthisprice).Afterthinkingabout otherfeedbackbasedonthe covermount,Ihave
decidedtoinclude itonthe frontof the magazine. Atthe momentIam unsure of what itwill be.I
have decidedthatthe house style/colourscheme will be green,goldandwhite becauseof how they
will contrastwitheachotherand linktothe two models’clothes. SofarI am not certainwhere Iwill
positionall of these conventions;therefore Iwill experimentwiththe compositionwhencreatingmy
drawndraft frontcover.
For the contentspage,I will showthe mastheadagainwhichwillalmostbrandthe magazine.
Alongside thiswill say‘Contents’whichclearlyshowsthe purposeof the page andwhat itis about.
The seriesof articlesshowninthe magazine will consistof all of the coverlinesshownonthe front
coverand storiesonR&B artists‘Usher Uncensored’‘FrankOceantalksChannel Orange’ ‘Robin
Thicke chattingabouthisnewalbum’‘A day inthe life of JustinTimberlake’ and‘PLUS- The Weeknd-
A risingstar’. There will be primaryphotosrelatingtoall of the storiesonthe frontcover outlinedin
a border,followingthe typical convention.HoweverIwill notbe includinganimage for the main
coverline.The page numberswill be chosenatrandom andhighlightedinthe green,goldandwhite
colourscheme,whereasthe article textwill be inblack,therefore makingthe page numbersstand
out more. Behindall of thisIwas thinkingof takingaphoto of sunglassestouse asthe background.
There will alsobe a TwitterandInstagramsite writtenforthe audience tosee.Alsothe overall page
will be splitintothirdsfollowingthe conventionof rule of thirds.The writingusedforall of the text
on the page (Exceptforthe masthead) willbe aserif style fontfromthe website Dafont.com.

2. The double page spreadwill alsohave the mastheadontoremindthe audience of whatmagazine
theyare readingand whobroughtthemthisarticle, therefore brandingthe product.The actual
article shownonthispage will be aboutan R&B artist,Miguel,talkingabouthisnew album.The title
of the article will be inalarger serif fontcolouredingreen,goldandwhite.Howeverthe article’s
textwill be colouredblacktomake iteasyfor the audience toread. The backgroundimage will be of
a white male teenagerleaningupagainstawall of graffiti.
