1. Questionnaire Analysis
1) What is your gender?
Overall in my questionnaire I asked 29 people. I made sure I asked a fairly even
number of males and females so my results were not biased. 45% of the people
which I asked were male, and 55% women. This means in my results both genders
opinions and viewpoints would be reflected. This is useful as I want my magazine to
appeal to both genders, not just one specific group.
2) What is your age?
I made sure I asked a range of different ages. As this graph shows I only asked 2 people over
the age of 25. This is because my genre in which I want my magazine to focus on appeals to
an age range 16-25. The majority of people I asked were ages 16-18; this is so that I can get
a range of opinions from people who would most likely be buying my magazine. When
looking at my results I will know that I will need to consider the most popular answers
because that is what my target audience will like.

3) What contents do you look for in a music magazine? (you can choose more than
one)
I gave a choice on my questionnaire of different content which I could include to see
what my target audience will like to be included. From my results I can see that the
most popular content is interviews, from this I will defiantly include an interview in
my magazine. This could be the feature on my double page spread. Things such as
freebies, quizzes and vouchers were less popular. This could be due to the fact my
target audience buy a magazine to read articles about their favourite bands/artists,
not to take part in quizzes or getting free things.
4) Do you prefer more images or more text?
I askedpeople if theywouldprefermore imagesortextsothat I know what toinclude.72% of
people saidtheywouldpreferimagesratherthantext.Thiscouldbe because a lotof textcan make
the magazine looktoomature and boring.Thiswouldmeanthe audience wouldlose interestand
not wantto continue reading.Althoughonly28% of people preferredtext,fromthese resultsIknow
to include amixture.Iwill includequitealotof text,howeverwhenitlooksliketoomuchI will break
the textup withan image of some sort.

I askedthisquestiontogainmore knowledgeaboutthe layoutof myfrontcover.From the
resultsitshowshow62% of people preferasimple layoutwhere as38% of people prefer
busy.Fromthese resultsIthinkI will tryto combine bothasimple andbusy cover.Keeping
the layoutverysimple,withadominantphoto,butaddinginmanycoverlinestocatch
attentionandmake itlookmore interesting.
6) What is the most you have paid for a magazine?
From thisquestionIgota range of differentanswers,there wasanaverage of £2.50-£3.50.
Thisshowsmy targetaudience are notwillingtopaya lot of moneyforan expensive,higher
classmagazine .Some otherssaidtheydidnotknow how much theyhave paidfora
magazine,showinghowthe price doesnotbothercertainpeople theyjustbuyamagazine
to readit. AsI am targetinganywhere fromworkingclasstomiddle class,Idonot intendfor
my magazine price tobe that expensive andwillkeepitin-between£2-£3.

monthly.Fromthisquestionthe difference betweenpeople whoreadmagazinesweeklyand
monthlyisquite small. Whenapplyingthisinformationwith mymagazine genre IthinkIwill publish
it monthly.Thisisbecause house musicisnotconstantlybeingreleasedcomparedtoagenre like
‘Pop’.Thismeansif I doit monthly,there willbe alotmore contenttoadd. It will alsogive my
audience somethingtolookforwardtoeachmonth whichcouldhelptomakingitmore popular.
9) Whichcolours wouldstand out to you for a house music magazine?
I askedthisquestiontohelpdevelopmyideasonmycolourscheme.Asitwasan openquestionI
got extremelyvariedresultsbutmanagedtocategorise themintobrightcolours,darkcolours,ora
mixture.12 people saidtheywouldlike tosee amixture of colours,afrontcoverwitha dark
backgroundthenone specificbrightcolour,almostlikeinaclubwhere house musicisplayed. From
these resultsIhave decidedI’mgoingtohave a blackand white base,withanoccasional bright
colour(maybe redor orange).These meanscertainwordswill standoutamongstthe dark
background.
