Disadvantage Of A Single Mother
Spend long hours working outside is also a reason why they need to send their children to child care
for the whole day, or leave their children alone at home because not all solo mothers have much
helps from their families. Therefore, they need to look for quality early learning, but some of them
can't find quality childcare or day nurseries with lower or no cost. D (2017) reported, "In Oregon,
Massachusetts and New York, a single mother of an infant ages 0–3 would have to pay more than
half of her income for day care at a center" (n.p). Some of solo single mother qualify for the child
care subsidy, but they have to wait list for a long time. In 1993, Polakow pointed out that "many
women worked night jobs while their children were asleep, fearing that discovery might lead to
neglect charges" (p.50). Without adult's supervision, their children are more likely to roam the street.
Therefore, being single mother are very stressful because they can't balance between work and
children. Berryhill and Durtschi (2017) have noted, "Mothers who work demanding or inflexible
jobs may experience that the demands at work may decrease maternal resources, especially when
the demands come at the cost of being able to fulfill their role as a mother. The workplace can be an
additional source of stress, especially if the job pre–vents mothers from attending to childcare
needs" (p.239). Thus, the single mothers don't have quality time with their children, or take care of
their children because

Mothers That Work Essay
The Effects of Working Mothers on their Children
One mother expresses her personal experience and opinion on the effects of her employment on the
children "I am happy to see support for the mom who wants to work outside of the home. By my
children seeing me go to work, I am teaching them the values of hard work, commitment, and
responsibility. I am also showing them that mothers and fathers share in all responsibilities of raising
a family, financial and housework. There is no doubt in either my mind or my child's that the first
priority is each other. Out times together are positive. I have seen too many stay at home moms
yelling at their children and worse, the children yelling at their mothers. I do not ... Show more

However, this same study also noted that "the difference was very tiny and disappeared by the age
of 5" (Recer 2). The effect of a working mother on her children has always been a controversial
issue that experts have argued for decades.
The book Families that Work assures mothers that "the change in maternal roles can only have
positive effects, helping children to become more responsible and more independent" (Kamerman
8). Children of working mothers often complete some of the tasks that the mother would normally
perform. For example many children with two working parents learn more quickly to clean their
rooms, fix their own snacks, and pick out their own school clothes. These children also learn to rely
on themselves or further research for answers to the night's homework questions. A study conducted
in March of 1979 clearly indicated "that being assigned chores around the house and yard is a
developmental process" (Gerstel 208). This amount of responsibility can teach a child many lessons
that he will use for the rest of his life with family and career.
Independence is an important value that children must be taught in order to become successful. An
expert in the field of child psychology, J. McCord expresses his beliefs that "working mothers stress
independence training more than do non–working mothers" (Hoffman 145). Independence allows a
child or teenager to determine

My Home
My home, a place where memories are born and a place of comfortability. From being little at three
years old to coming age of nine; I was told we were going to move. My mother planned on moving
for a while and was putting our house for sale. My mother's boyfriend William wanted us to move to
Miami, Florida where his brother lived. His brother told him we could stay over his home to get a
feel for the place. I was not fond of the idea of moving as I'll be leaving behind my friends I've
known for many years and the memories made here. The days go by as we started moving our things
to the storage facility to empty the house. We only had a few minor necessities and our clothes to
take to Miami. Looking inside our house, there was just the plain tile floor with cracks and the
brown washed walls with line marks as the couches rubbed against them. I peered into the hallway
as the three rooms being my mom 's, sister, and mine was empty from top to bottom stripped of
color and comfort. The house sat quiet, undisturbed. The emptiness of the house made me feel bitter
as I was leaving a part of me that lived here for years.. I was awoken by my mother at dawn telling
me to grab my things as we were heading on the road to Miami. My sister came behind her holding
her pillow and blanket with her eyes hanging low as though she was squinting. We got into the truck
that had a u–haul attached to it containing our belongings. I got into the back seat with my sister

Mother's Day Spigel Analysis
Spigel claims that television brings the family together, but still allows for sexual and social
divisions (37). The "Mother's Day" episode of Modern Family (Modern Family) illustrates this idea,
however it predominantly updates on it in many areas. This is because although divisions within the
family do exist, there are moments when the divide is not clear as the characters express beliefs, or
act, outside of their social or sexual role. Thus, the family paradigm portrayed in this episode is
undeniably an open one, as there is a lesser sense of shared belief amongst the families. It is,
nonetheless, Modern Family's blurring of divisions that makes it so unique.
Spigel notes that the family house shows the social and sexual division within it (15). "Mother's
Day" illustrates this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus although the episode can bring the family together over appreciation for mothers, there is also
an underlying sense of sexual divide being fed. Namely, that the mother is to be the nurturer, the
sensitive one, whereas this is a line that the males in the family cannot cross. They are expected to
be the emotionally strong figures instead. In the hiking scene, Gloria stating that her son should quit
his poetry and kick a ball for once further highlights this expectation for families' male members to
be physically, not emotionally, inclined. It is undeniable that modern sitcoms seek to present a
greater sense social and sexual equality (Patton and Choi 199). This idea will be discussed in a
subsequent section. However as shown by the "Mother's Day" episode, there is still an underlying
sense of sexual and social division on television, but it is depicted as natural (Patton and Choi 199).
It is depicted as natural for some of the sexist comments and expectations are not critiqued by the
characters.
In contrast, the "Mother's Day" episode mostly updates on Spigel's statement by suggesting that the
family's sexual and social divisions can, and

Graduation Speech
It's been two years, and yet if somebody asks me about that day, my voice will crack. By "that day,"
I mean the day I came home from MacArthur Elementary School to find my Golden Retriever,
Honey, splayed out on the asphalt near our driveway, her head bashed open, her body lifeless but
still warm. It's an image I can't seem to shake, as much as I try. The day started out like any other
weekday morning, hectic. My siblings scrambling to get ready, make their breakfast, being
reminded to brush hair, teeth, feed the dogs and make their lunches. After this was done, the
morning calmed down a bit, but by then school would be starting, so off my 12 year old self went
with my younger brother Jered. The journey to school was quick, but little ... Show more content on

I was gleeful. That is all that mattered to me at the time. I don't recall knowing why I was joyful on
this day. In honesty, I've always been a cheery person. The rest of my school day was slow and I
dreaded half of it because of Mrs. Reiter. She wasn't the nicest teacher, yet I didn't blame her. I can
say that her students weren't the most respectful of her. However, she so happened to be the only
teacher that rains on my parade of happiness. Evidently I was glad when the school day ended. Once
that final bell rang, initially ending the school day, I got out of my classroom in a rush and
instinctively went to search for my younger brother. I was responsible for him at school. That's what
big sisters do. My search wasn't lasting because I could spot Jered anywhere, I went towards him
interrupting his conversation with his buddies telling him firmly that it was time to go home. He was
reluctant to go. Off we went for a second time on a journey, a journey to home, thankfully. Along the
way, we met up with a couple of my closest friends who happen to live relatively close to me and
talked and giggled the entire way home where we sadly, had to go our separate ways. Gazing at my
house, as we grew nearer and nearer to it, it felt like something was off. The longer I stared at my
home the more sure I felt. Something was wrong. Something was very, very wrong. It was like the
house was oozing an aura of sadness, to anyone

A Mother's Day Kiss Off Analysis
In the article, "A Mother's Day Kiss–Off," author Leslie Bennetts explains her rage about the
Mother's Day holiday and the unfair expectations of mothers in modern America. Bennetts feels that
the treatment of women and mothers is unfair, causing women and mothers everywhere to be angry.
Bennetts proclaims that women feel inferior in most aspects of life, and she explains that this is
unfair and all too common. Bennetts challenges women to realize that they are not alone and should
keep fighting for themselves. In doing so, Bennetts loses credibility in her idea that women are
oppressed housewives due to her negative tone and approach to men and husbands. Bennetts
suggests that women are silent with their problems and choose to not stand up

Children 's Social And Emotional Development
According to childstats.gov since 1985 nearly one in four children with a working mother goes to
daycare. Children's social and emotional development are greatly impacted due to the extended
amount of time children are in daycare and not cared for by their maternal mother. Behavioral
problems, aggressive behavior, resolving conflict, and lower academic performance is examples of
these adverse impacts. These negative social and emotional consequences of day care on children
range from early childhood and continue into their teens.
On average, children spend more than twenty hours per week in a daycare facility. Childcare
facilities are linked to the emotional and social development. A researcher, for familtfacts.gov, Jenet
Jacob Erickson Ph.D., suggested that children who enter into an establishment before they are a year
old and attend until the age of six are likely to possess less social competence, cooperation and
express more challenging behavioral problems such as aggression or negative moods. Children are
very impressionable during this age range and are likely to act out in drastic measures due to the
lack of knowledge on how to communicate their feelings. Children tend to crave attention from their
parents by behaving in a disapproving nature. In return, parents respond by providing discipline.
Typically, children do not understand the difference between negative and positive attention.

Mother we generally come across various forms of relationships like father–son, fn life, husband–
wife, love, friendship etc but the most dear and hearty relation of all is of a mother and her child.
The bond of mother and child is the purest and holiest.
Mother is next to GOD. She knows everything. A warm and affectionate touch of your mother will
give you immense pleasure and you will feel as if you are in
heaven.

The relationship of a mother and a child carries deep emotions and feelings within it and it is
always nurtured by love, affection and care. She is the one who gives birth to the child, brings him
up, supports him when he needs someone the most, guides him in taking right decisions, stands
against crowd and favours her child if he is right, suffers a lot of pain from the time of birth of a
child till he becomes adult but never expects anything in return. {4renever you feel sad and tensed,

A Mother's Day Kiss-Off By Leslie Bennetts
In the article "A Mother's Day Kiss–Off," author Leslie Bennetts states that people look over and
under appreciate mothers, leaving them to have to handle responsibilities on their own. Bennetts
supports this by providing stories, interviews, and using assertive language. In the article "The Myth
of Co–Parenting: How It Was Supposed to Be. How It Was," author Hope Edelman expresses that
she feels as if she has no say in her own home. Edelman proves her point by expressing her opinion
and telling stories to persuade the reader to their side. Although Edelman and Bennetts both convey
their beliefs about equality, Bennetts explains how she wants equality for all women, while Edelman
just wants equality in her own home.
In the articles "A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though both are speaking of different ways they are under credited, both would come to a
conclusion that women are under appreciated from their husbands and deserve more than what they
are getting from them.
Edelman and Bennetts both would agree that society's view of women is wrong, but Bennetts wants
more equality in the workplace while Edelman wants equality in her home. Bennetts states that
"Most husbands still view childcare and household chores as women's work, even when those
women are working full–time"(42). She is inferring that gender roles are still programmed into
people's minds today and that it is completely wrong. It is viewed by society that a woman is to stay
home and care for the children while a man goes out and makes the money. Of course, this is an
issue for Edelman as well when Edelman states that all of the housework had fallen back on her,
making it her priority, not her husbands. She contends "A lot of slack was starting to pile up around
our house. And because I was the only parent spending any real time there, the primary de–slacker
was me"(51). Edelman illustrates that she just wants her husband to pick up his part of the job at the
house, but since he was the man, he did not. Both of the articles show that gender roles are still
present today because of society's view of women. Bennetts begins to explain the pay difference
between a man and

Trace: A Narrative Fiction
It was a good, sunny summer day. My friends Sara, Trace, and Juan are waiting for me at the REC
when school lets out. It had been a long day of AP classes and dealing with general high school
annoyances, so I was looking to unwind. We were bored, so we decided on heading towards a spot

everyone talks about their day. Everyone is in a great mood, it seems like it will be a good day.
However a darker, unknown reality lurks in shadows, waiting for the right time to present itself. The
topic turns to coming up with ideas as to what we're going to do that night. Sara states, "My house

Analysis Of Acquainted With The Night
In Company of the Moon and Inner Sorrow, "Acquainted with the Night"
In Robert Frost's poem, "Acquainted with the Night", there is a sense of melancholic loneliness of
which the speaker seems to be content with. The reader sees a glimpse of his perpetual depression
on a habitual night time walk. He starts by saying he is "one acquainted with the night" (line 1). He
feels a sort of companionship with this time of day. Ironically enough, while most everyone else is
asleep and quiet, he feels a sense of belonging. The speaker personifies the city through parallels of
his own lonely depression. Having walked "out in rain–and back in rain" shows that despite the
weather, he is persistent in his practice (line 2). The rain is symbolic of a gloomy mood or even a
rough patch in one's life. In this case, the rain is parallel to his actuality. As it rains for an extended
period, we can infer that the persona has suffered with depression for some time. Underlying causes
of his sadness are not clear. However, the reader gets the impression he lives a life alone. His sense
of being is encompassed in the imagery of the somber city streets. He is lonely, a continual moment
of subtle dread haunts his life. The repetition of the phrase, "I have", at the beginning of the first
four lines is significant as it shows all he experiences on these walks. The walk seems to be a nightly
ritual, perhaps a way to clear his thoughts. Insomnia is often linked with feelings of emptiness in a

The Best That Never Was: The Life of Marcus Dupree Essay
"The Best That Never Was" "The Best That Never Was" is a 30 for 30 documentaries ESPN

behavior by everyone involved in sport including agents. I will focus on these three issues in
particular because I feel they have the most direct correlation between the film and classroom

After finding out that Marcus would lose a year of eligibility Fairley also played a key role in him
deciding to go pro. Recruiters were doing practically anything to land Marcus, with accusations that
some gave gifts. Coaches especially at Oklahoma mistreated Marcus, at least in his mind at the time,
even though he admits he was wrong for leaving. Barry Switzer, who was the coach at Oklahoma at
the time, admitted that he and his coaching staff could have handled things better than they did.
Like most of the documentaries that ESPN has done, I believe they did a great job in portraying
multiple viewpoints. Marcus Dupree more God given talent than most people can even imagine. The
clips shown during the film reminded me of classic videos of Jim Brown, Billy Sims, and Gale
Sayers. In my opinion those might have been the three greatest running backs of all time. Ironically,
Billy Sims was one of the guys Marcus looked up to as a child, and if he had not given up, so easily
at Oklahoma, Marcus may have been the best of all of them. Like so many things in life the
decisions we make in life come back to us in one shape or form later on. I do believe that Marcus
learned an even more valuable lesson by all of his failures, and when he decided to get himself back
in shape to make a comeback he worked harder than ever before. Because of the hard work he put in
to make a comeback, I believe that is why Marcus

The Dissimilarity Between Working Mother And Stay Home Mother
Sang Min Yue
Professor Dr. Rosalyn Jacobs
ENGL 1102
24, April 2016
"The Dissimilarity between Working Mother and stay home Mother" During the early years of the
1900's most women were not allowed to work, they also did not have any rights to vote. All the
women during these times could only stay inside the house and take care of the familial duties and
chores. Women were primarily cooking meals, cleaning inside the house, and also taking care of
their own child. On the other hand, most of the men were kings in the household who were in charge
as they are the main source of income for making money. Most of the kids growing up during this
time period ensured to consume a strong family background because the marriage was everlasting
one. Back in the day, the maximum of divorce rates was very low compared to a present day, as of
now, but how is that the divorce rates are high in the present today? That is because of the
authorization in the 19th Amendment which were giving women right to vote, as they became more
self–governing (Harris). Women did not just want to cook, and clean working as a house wife at
home any longer, but however women desired to have a job outside just like their husband earning
all the money and have a nice working life. They wanted to challenge themselves as they wish to
follow their husbands footsteps, to prove that women can also do just like how the men does. Even

Leslie Bennetts A Mother's Day Kiss-Off

depicts the typical mother as a stay–at–home mom and how mothers respond to that problem. She
begins her argument by commenting on how Mother's Day will come but pass leaving mothers to go
back to their excessive responsibilities. She critiques the weight our culture imposes on mothers
because raising children is still viewed as the mother's job. Bennetts draws attention to the flaws in
our society that prevent women from following their dreams because of motherhood.
Bennetts includes that most husbands still view childcare as their wives' responsibility even if their

Dee, however, moves on with life and goes out to make something of herself in the world. The story
is an account of one of Dee's visits, but the narrator, the mother, makes a very obvious comparison
between Dee and Maggie's looks, intelligence, behaviorism, and values. The reader has a lesson to

Although she is jealous of her sister, Maggie more admires her than anything. It is, however,
upsetting that the narrator never suggests Dee has any admiration or respect for Maggie or herself,
for that matter. The story never even suggests that Dee feels sorry for Maggie, instead it can be
interpreted that Dee just looks down on her sister, as she does the rest of her family.
The reader can also learn about the girls from how they treat others. Just like everything else, they
are opposites. Dee "would always look anyone in the eye. Hesitation was no part of her nature"(92)
while Maggie walks "chin on chest, eyes on ground, feet in shuffle"(94). Mama also knows that
while her sister is there Maggie will be nervous and "stand hopelessly in corners, homely and
ashamed of the burns scars down her arms and legs"(92). While Maggie has always felt inferior,
Dee seems haughty and kind of has a superiority complex. Dee is also implied to be manipulative.
Dee would read to her mother and Maggie knowing it was literature beyond their comprehension
just so she could show off. "She used to read to us without pit; forcing words, lies, other folks'
habits, whole lives upon us two. She washed us in a river of make–believe, burned us with a lot of
knowledge we didn't necessarily need to know"(94). The phrase "She read to them" is repeated
when talking about Dee around her friends and boys that wanted to date her (95). However, in this

Mother's Day Gift Ideas
4 Great Mother's Day Gift Ideas
Hallmark and FTD have made a fortune on gift buying for mom on Mother's Day, but it might be
time to move away from the standard bouquet of flowers and the frilly, glittery card and embrace
some new gift ideas. Mother's Day is officially and unofficially recognized in most countries
worldwide. Whether or not it is called Mother's Day depends upon the country celebrating it. One
thing is true no matter where you are, and that is that mothers are honored and given gifts like
flowers from their children and grandchildren. As evidenced by statistics from AT&T, more long
distance phone calls are made on Mother's Day than any other day of the year.
Since mother is such an important figure in your life, maybe you should break away from tradition
and give her a gift that is not flowers and candy.
1 – Gift Baskets
There are any number of websites devoted to creating and sending a gift basket to mom or
grandmom, but they lack the personalization that comes from creating one from scratch. It does not
take a lot of money to create a basket, and you may even end up saving money by doing it yourself.
Baskets are readily available at any craft or big box store in the gardening section. They are
normally constructed of wicker or a woven material and come in a huge selection of sizes. You can
tailor the basket to match your mom's personality or her hobbies.

Comparing Story Of An Hour 'And' How We Kept Mother's Day

In The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and How We Kept Mother's Day by Stephen Leacock,
satire and irony are the main literary devices. The authors draw in the audience and make them
receive social, and moral problems by using irony to form satire. When comparing The Story of an
Hour by Kate Chopin and How We Kept Mother's Day by Leacock we see how Stephen Leacock
uses irony, and satirical moments to show issues in our society without directly addressing the
reader. In The Story of an Hour Chopin uses irony too, but sets the mood to something more serious
to obtain the same goals. However because of the different structures in both stories, the usage of
irony varies. How We Kept Mother's Day by Stephen Leacock is definitely satire which makes the
readers recognize how females are oppressed in society. Leacock presents this irony by making the
men oblivious to how they are treating their wives. For example in the story the husband suggests to
go on a fishing trip with the family and fails to notice that it's not what his wife wants to do. The
wife's opinions and comments on everything are nonexistent. The structure in the story uses satire to

A Short Story Of Mama Wolf
"Mama Wolf, will you tell us a bedtime story?" asked Little Wolf, as Mama Wolf tucked him in with
his brothers and sisters. The den was warm and snuggly, but Little Wolf wasn't sleepy yet.
"Of course," answered Mama Wolf. "Listen closely, pups, and I will tell you why we howl at the
moon." Mama Wolf settled down next to her puppies and tucked one paw into her chest
comfortably. Little Wolf and his brothers and sisters snuggled closer together and perked up their
ears, waiting for Mama Wolf to start her story.
"Once upon a time, a long time ago, there were two big wolves," began Mama Wolf. "Their names
were Shadow and Moon, and they loved each other very much."
"More than you love us?" yipped Little Wolf's sister.
Mama Wolf let out a huff of laughter. "Of course not, dear. Nobody loves anything as much as I love
you." She kissed all the puppies on their heads, and they wagged their tails happily. "Now hush,
little ones, and listen to the story," Mama Wolf said.
"Shadow was a big, strong boy wolf," she continued. "His fur was thick and shaggy, and it was as
black as night. Moon was a beautiful girl wolf, with yellow eyes and pure white fur that glowed in
the dark. Shadow and Moon did everything together and were never apart. Their favorite thing to do
was to go running through the forest at night, under the starry sky. Nighttime was always very dark,
because back then, there was no moon in the sky. But Shadow and Moon never had any trouble

Analysis Of A Mother's Day Kiss-Off By Leslie Bennetts
Marriage is something that most people go through at some time in their life. When people get
married, their lives are drastically changed. They must be devoted to this person, wanting to please
them with everything that they do. They are bound to this person and have to make sacrifices for
them, even if they do not want to. "A Mother's Day Kiss–Off", written by Leslie Bennetts, and "My
Problem with Her Anger", written by Eric Bartels, both share how women feel angry because of the
inequality that they experience, either at home or at work. They are forced to make sacrifices that
they do not want to make, and how this frustrates them. Both use examples of this anger and
frustration from married women, yet they do it in different ways. Bennetts uses research and what
she has seen and heard from in other women about their anger, while Bartels uses a real–life
experience in his own home. Both authors share how women feel angry because of the inequality
that they experience, either at home or at work. In "A Mother's Day Kiss–Off", author Leslie
Bennetts says, "Those responsibilities–and the personal sacrifices they typically entail–generate a
permanent state of simmering anger in all too many women" (42). Bennetts uses a lot of evidence to
support her claim. She uses an example of an interview she had with a woman who was angry that
she had to give up her job, which she enjoyed, in order to take off stress because her husband told
her to. This goes to show how her sacrifice to please her husband and do what he suggests, raise
their children, and do what she needed to relieve stress, which is the last way she wanted to do it. In
"My Problem with Her Anger", author Eric Bartels states, "These are the things men do that quietly
annoy the living shit out of a woman. Until she becomes a mother. Then they inspire a level of fury
unlike anything she has ever experienced. And that fury won't be kept a secret" (58). Bartels feels
that he must do everything perfectly, according to his wife, or everything becomes chaos. He utilizes
examples from his life that explain this statement. For example, he had made a nice dinner after
work for the both of them, with pork chops and zucchini, and she asked why he used rice instead of

Explain Why Matt Should Not Have Gone To The Indian Village
Matt was alone. In a cabin in the woods all by himself, he was keeping house till his parents came.
He met an Indian boy who invited him to his village. Should he go? Matt should not have gone to
the Indian village for these three reasons. They were not familiar people, it was not his usual trail,
and he was not the expected champion. The first reason Matt should not have gone to the Indian
village is that they were not familiar people. He did not understand their ways, their speech, or their
dances. He was totally clueless about the Indian culture, except what he had heard from his teachers.
He would likely say or do something foolish, and offend someone, and who knows what they might
do to him if they got angry. He was not familiar enough

Goodnight Ipad: A Parody For The Next Generation
Goodnight iPad: A Parody for the Next Generation Modern day society has a hard time saying
"goodnight" to their technological devices, a problem that Ann Droyd explores in her parody picture
book, Goodnight iPad. Through witty illustrations and a rhythmic word scheme, Droyd follows the
nightly routine of a colony of rabbits engrossed by their gadgets and gizmos. The story opens with
an exaggerated description of all of the appliances within the household. The mother rabbit, trying to
sleep, quickly gets fed up with the noise coming from her family's devices. To resolve this issue, she
says "goodnight" to the family toys by throwing every last one them out of the window, then finally
sending everyone off to bed. Ann Droyd uses a parodistic approach with exaggeration and
personification to convey the deeply rooted obsession with technology in the twenty first century. ...

Cows could jump over the moon without the night sky being lost in lights, and a sleuth of bears
could sit in their chairs without iPhones in their paws. This is a time that Margaret Wise Brown
explores in her picture book, Goodnight Moon. In this bedtime story, a rabbit says goodnight to a
wide array of miscellaneous items in his room, including a quiet mother rabbit who whispers,
"'hush'" (Brown). On the walls hang paintings of nursery rhymes that date back to the sixteenth
century. In the corner, a bookshelf sits fully stocked and a toy dollhouse rests lightly against the
wall. Written in 1947, Ann Droyd realized that these simplicities are being lost in the buzzing of
modern technology, hence her writing her acclaimed parody of Goodnight

Personal Narrative: My Mother's Hysterectomy Day

My mother had expected to be released from the hospital the next day after 1 week of surgery. I
thought her hysterectomy, a surgical process of the removal of uterine fibroids in her body, was
suppose to cure her. Instead, the surgeons accidently punctured her bladder, causing her to undergo

When we arrived at the hospital, I gently opened the medical room, not knowing what to expect. My

she lost a significant amount of weight within a week. My heart sank to the pit of my stomach. I

The Advantages And Dilemmas Of Child Care For Children
Tamai Butler
Coach Beale
Senior Capstone
March , 9 , 2018 One of the biggest decisions parents have to make after choosing to have a child
involves deciding who will care for that child, especially during the early developmental years.
Parents choose to resolve this difficult dilemma in many ways. Some families choose to use full–
time childcare, while in other families one parent stays or works at home for all or part of the time.
In other families, a parent chooses to leave the workforce completely in order to become the primary
caregiver. Finding appropriate and affordable child care is often a challenge. There are different
options available in different places, and at many different price points although all options are
expensive. Each care option comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. It can be confusing

Nonetheless, my parents' friends would routinely leave their children under my care when we got
together with other families for play dates and tea parties they obviously saw something in me that I
grew aware of more strongly as I got older. If I was always naturally going to gravitate into a role
which involved caring for children, I get huge satisfaction from working with people in general, old
or young. As much as my current role is to do with how much I love to care for children, there are
other important aspects involved in my career path. It is not just communicating well with children
that is a vital skill but also how you communicate with the people that are most important to that
child. As a nanny you learn skills which enable you to help children to develop into happy, healthy
little people. To be able to show parents how to develop their own confidence and skills to care for
their children and see them build the closest of connections, must be one of the best feelings you can

Analysis Of ' An Eye Who Is The Whole World Go Blind '
"An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind." – Ghandi. The story of Dawn reinforces this
well–known quote by demonstrating the heavy silence of murder and it's feeble justifications.
A few years after the Holocaust, one of it's victims, Elisha, is recruited from his home in Paris as a
terrorist in the city of Palestine. In his short time there, he has participated in violent group
retaliation against the British, yet has never been forced to kill individually– until now. This story
documents the tale of a young boy's struggle to come to term with the human's ability to commit
cruel acts, as well as his struggle to justify the ultimate act of cruelty: murder. Within it's startling
revelations of the human conscience, Dawn illuminates that the comforts of revenge are only
temporary; murder terminates all answers.
With this, the author, Elie Wiesel, is able crumble the foundations of terrorisms and the reasoning
that hate can ever resolve hate in his first novel, called Dawn.
Dawn takes place in Palestine, a place where the Jewish community wakes up to a red, vengeful sky.
After surviving the Holocaust the main character, Elisha, has been recruited as a terrorist for the
Freedom Movement. For Elisha, who is now without a family, the Freedom Movement represents a
new dawn, an act of hope, and most importantly, a retaliation in the name of faith to secure what 's
rightfully his peoples. However, daybreak presents Elisha with a more tortured reality; he has been

Analysis Of The Book Night By Elie Wiesel
McBride 1 Brandy McBride McAndrew ELAAugust 6, 2017 Night In the book Night by Elie
Wiesel there are many instances where his use of imagery helps establish tone and purpose. For
example Elie Wiesel used fire (sight) to represent just that. The fire helps prove that the tone is
serious and mature. In no way did Wiesel try to lighten up the story about the concentration camps
or the Nazis. His use of fire also helps show his purpose. "Never shall I forget that night, the first
night in camp, that turned my life into one long night seven times scaled. Never shall I forget that

However he then stated "Where is he? This is where––hanging here from this gallows..." "that night
the soup tasted like corpses" (page 65). Here Wiesel had two very different opinions on the soup.
The way he described the soup in the first quote showed he was hungry and happy although once he
realized the truth everything changed. He soon found the soup to be repulsing and he wanted
nothing to do with it. For example when he says the soup tasted like corpses he means that they did
not feel the satisfaction of eating because they just witnessed a horrific occurrence. This helps with
tone because the reader can tell how quickly his tone went downhill. Last but not least is the sense
of smell which Wiesel used throughout the book by explaining the burners and crematories. "In
front of us, those flames. In the air, the smell of burning flesh. It must have been around midnight.
We had arrived. In Birkenau" (28, Wiesel). Along with the smell Wiesel had witnessed and heard
awful events that took place in the burners. "Over there. Do you see the chimney over there? Do you
see it? And the flames, do you see them?" (Yes, we saw the flames.) "Over there, that's where they
will take you. Over there will be your grave. You still don't understand? You sons of bitches. Don't
you understand anything? You will be burned! Burned into a cinder! Turned to ashes" (30–31,
Wiesel). This shows a different tone. It shows fear and worry because does anyone really

A Mother's Day Blues Concert Report

floor. The area where I was seated, someone decided to buy us drinks. The reason I enjoyed the
concert so much was because it was a great view. I didn't have to struggle to see the performers on
stage. Also, some of the performers got off stage and came into the area where we were seated.
Being at the concert listening to such great music brought back a lot of memories. The songs that
they sung brought me back to my childhood. When I was a child my siblings and I use to sit in the

John Schoenherr's Owl Moon

hope. "When you go owling you don't' need words or warm or anything but hope".
The illustrations for Owl Moon are done by John Schoenherr. The illustrator chose pen with

Older students can dissect an owl pellet. We can take the lesson further and explore what animals
stay in the winter and how they survive. Since this is a story of what a boy did with his father,
perhaps the students can discuss or write about an activity they have done with a parent,
grandparent, or friend. I remember writing a short story when I was seven, about snowmobiling with
my grandfather. I drew a picture with the story; I think my mother laminated it.
I chose Owl Moon because it reminded so much of where I live. Although I have never been on an
"owling", I have had many opportunities to hear them. The words of the author and the illustrator
transported me to our meadow path. "Our feet crunched over the crisp snow", reminds me when my
mother, sisters and I went to the meadow to make plaster of paris molds of deer prints.

Becoming A Single-Parent
The pain of losing someone close to you, especially a parent, is never something you can ever quite
articulate. But, the lessons you learn and the person you become in the aftermath is a little easier to

always knew how to soothe me and she always made the effort to, even when she was combatting
her own issues. In 2009, my parents divorced due to my father's anger issues and drug use. In
addition to becoming a single parent, she was also physically disabled due to work injuries and dealt
with pain almost constantly. Her death was May 26th, 2015, just six days after the end of my
freshman year. The exact details are burned into my memory, but at the same time the entire day is a

and the absolute heartbreak I experienced during what I dub "The First Year".
During "The First Year", the odds seemed so against us: my brother needed to obtain custody and

Lugging laundry detergent around a neighborhood at night probably seemed suspicious. Risking my

The teenage years and transition to adulthood is in itself a very difficult period. Blending or fitting
in are omnipresent issues that must be dealt with. For children of immigrants, this difficulty is only
intensified through language. Both Amy Tan and Khang Nguyen strategically use narrative
anecdotes and employ several rhetorical devices to illustrate this struggle in their works, "Mother
Tongue" and "The Happy Days," respectfully. Amy Tan chooses her childhood home as the primary
setting of her work. This allows her to focus primarily on her conversations and interactions with her
mother. However, she also gives several anecdotes in which her mother's background and improper
English negatively affected her, outside the home. Through ... Show more content on

However, the setting of the bathroom with the mirror provides Khang with a means of reflection.
Both Tan and Khang describe the struggle of fitting in with the added difficulty of growing up as a
child of immigrants. Both compare and contrast their relationships inside and out side the home in
order to clearly demonstrate the differences and difficulties. As the stories develop, so do their
characters, allowing for subtle reflection.
At hoe, Amy Tan maintained a loving relationship with her mother. There, they were able to speak to
each other the same way and understand each other perfectly. It was only outside the home that
communication became a problem. She recalls how people disrespected her mother in department
stores, restaurants and other places. Her mother, on a daily basis, received a constant condescending
attitude from people. Tan became very uncomfortable with such attitudes. When her mother is
disrespected or treated unfairly, Tan would simply "sit there red–faced and quiet". She never felt
angry toward her mother, like Khang did. However, she did feel that her mother's informal English
limited her perception of her.
As an adult, Tan understands that her mother's English is the language of intimacy. She now
understands that her "mother's expressive command belies how much she actually understands" Her
mother reads "The Wall street Journal" and converses with their stockbroker on matters Tan doesn't
comprehend. It becomes evident that her initial

Mother Day : My Experience For A Mother's Day
My third day here, I was helping with Level A again. Today, during coffee break, an event to
celebrate mother's day has been organized. I came early to help the teachers with the preparations.
The lessons today also concentrated on mothers and family. The students were asked to find words
for each letter of the word "MOTHER" that they can use to describe their mother. Then we helped
them use those words to form sentences. They were also given some words with the word "mother"
in it e.g. mother tongue, motherland, mother nature, etc. Then the students were asked what the
word is for "mother" in their mother tongue and how they and their children address their mothers.
The students also spoke about their plans for mother's day. During the break everyone enjoyed what
the teachers have prepared. There was some music too. Some students from Level B, C, and D went
on the stage to speak about their mothers. After the coffee break we borrowed some of the pictures
the teachers brought of their mothers and their families and taught the students how to ask questions
about a photograph. Then they were given handouts and were divided into pairs. The handouts had
some pictures with few words under each picture. The students had to use the questions they learned
earlier to ask each other about the pictures and use the words given to answer those questions. We
moved around the class and helped the students where they needed.
I have been to only two classes since coming here. The program

Disadvantage Of A Single Mother

  • 1. Disadvantage Of A Single Mother Spend long hours working outside is also a reason why they need to send their children to child care for the whole day, or leave their children alone at home because not all solo mothers have much helps from their families. Therefore, they need to look for quality early learning, but some of them can't find quality childcare or day nurseries with lower or no cost. D (2017) reported, "In Oregon, Massachusetts and New York, a single mother of an infant ages 0–3 would have to pay more than half of her income for day care at a center" (n.p). Some of solo single mother qualify for the child care subsidy, but they have to wait list for a long time. In 1993, Polakow pointed out that "many women worked night jobs while their children were asleep, fearing that discovery might lead to neglect charges" (p.50). Without adult's supervision, their children are more likely to roam the street. Therefore, being single mother are very stressful because they can't balance between work and children. Berryhill and Durtschi (2017) have noted, "Mothers who work demanding or inflexible jobs may experience that the demands at work may decrease maternal resources, especially when the demands come at the cost of being able to fulfill their role as a mother. The workplace can be an additional source of stress, especially if the job pre–vents mothers from attending to childcare needs" (p.239). Thus, the single mothers don't have quality time with their children, or take care of their children because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Mothers That Work Essay The Effects of Working Mothers on their Children One mother expresses her personal experience and opinion on the effects of her employment on the children "I am happy to see support for the mom who wants to work outside of the home. By my children seeing me go to work, I am teaching them the values of hard work, commitment, and responsibility. I am also showing them that mothers and fathers share in all responsibilities of raising a family, financial and housework. There is no doubt in either my mind or my child's that the first priority is each other. Out times together are positive. I have seen too many stay at home moms yelling at their children and worse, the children yelling at their mothers. I do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this same study also noted that "the difference was very tiny and disappeared by the age of 5" (Recer 2). The effect of a working mother on her children has always been a controversial issue that experts have argued for decades. The book Families that Work assures mothers that "the change in maternal roles can only have positive effects, helping children to become more responsible and more independent" (Kamerman 8). Children of working mothers often complete some of the tasks that the mother would normally perform. For example many children with two working parents learn more quickly to clean their rooms, fix their own snacks, and pick out their own school clothes. These children also learn to rely on themselves or further research for answers to the night's homework questions. A study conducted in March of 1979 clearly indicated "that being assigned chores around the house and yard is a developmental process" (Gerstel 208). This amount of responsibility can teach a child many lessons that he will use for the rest of his life with family and career. Independence is an important value that children must be taught in order to become successful. An expert in the field of child psychology, J. McCord expresses his beliefs that "working mothers stress independence training more than do non–working mothers" (Hoffman 145). Independence allows a child or teenager to determine ... • 5. My Home My home, a place where memories are born and a place of comfortability. From being little at three years old to coming age of nine; I was told we were going to move. My mother planned on moving for a while and was putting our house for sale. My mother's boyfriend William wanted us to move to Miami, Florida where his brother lived. His brother told him we could stay over his home to get a feel for the place. I was not fond of the idea of moving as I'll be leaving behind my friends I've known for many years and the memories made here. The days go by as we started moving our things to the storage facility to empty the house. We only had a few minor necessities and our clothes to take to Miami. Looking inside our house, there was just the plain tile floor with cracks and the brown washed walls with line marks as the couches rubbed against them. I peered into the hallway as the three rooms being my mom 's, sister, and mine was empty from top to bottom stripped of color and comfort. The house sat quiet, undisturbed. The emptiness of the house made me feel bitter as I was leaving a part of me that lived here for years.. I was awoken by my mother at dawn telling me to grab my things as we were heading on the road to Miami. My sister came behind her holding her pillow and blanket with her eyes hanging low as though she was squinting. We got into the truck that had a u–haul attached to it containing our belongings. • 9. Mother's Day Spigel Analysis Spigel claims that television brings the family together, but still allows for sexual and social divisions (37). The "Mother's Day" episode of Modern Family (Modern Family) illustrates this idea, however it predominantly updates on it in many areas. This is because although divisions within the family do exist, there are moments when the divide is not clear as the characters express beliefs, or act, outside of their social or sexual role. Thus, the family paradigm portrayed in this episode is undeniably an open one, as there is a lesser sense of shared belief amongst the families. It is, nonetheless, Modern Family's blurring of divisions that makes it so unique. Spigel notes that the family house shows the social and sexual division within it (15). "Mother's Day" illustrates this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus although the episode can bring the family together over appreciation for mothers, there is also an underlying sense of sexual divide being fed. Namely, that the mother is to be the nurturer, the sensitive one, whereas this is a line that the males in the family cannot cross. They are expected to be the emotionally strong figures instead. In the hiking scene, Gloria stating that her son should quit his poetry and kick a ball for once further highlights this expectation for families' male members to be physically, not emotionally, inclined. It is undeniable that modern sitcoms seek to present a greater sense social and sexual equality (Patton and Choi 199). This idea will be discussed in a subsequent section. However as shown by the "Mother's Day" episode, there is still an underlying sense of sexual and social division on television, but it is depicted as natural (Patton and Choi 199). It is depicted as natural for some of the sexist comments and expectations are not critiqued by the characters. In contrast, the "Mother's Day" episode mostly updates on Spigel's statement by suggesting that the family's sexual and social divisions can, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Graduation Speech It's been two years, and yet if somebody asks me about that day, my voice will crack. By "that day," I mean the day I came home from MacArthur Elementary School to find my Golden Retriever, Honey, splayed out on the asphalt near our driveway, her head bashed open, her body lifeless but still warm. It's an image I can't seem to shake, as much as I try. The day started out like any other weekday morning, hectic. My siblings scrambling to get ready, make their breakfast, being reminded to brush hair, teeth, feed the dogs and make their lunches. After this was done, the morning calmed down a bit, but by then school would be starting, so off my 12 year old self went with my younger brother Jered. The journey to school was quick, but little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was gleeful. That is all that mattered to me at the time. I don't recall knowing why I was joyful on this day. In honesty, I've always been a cheery person. The rest of my school day was slow and I dreaded half of it because of Mrs. Reiter. She wasn't the nicest teacher, yet I didn't blame her. I can say that her students weren't the most respectful of her. However, she so happened to be the only teacher that rains on my parade of happiness. Evidently I was glad when the school day ended. Once that final bell rang, initially ending the school day, I got out of my classroom in a rush and instinctively went to search for my younger brother. I was responsible for him at school. That's what big sisters do. My search wasn't lasting because I could spot Jered anywhere, I went towards him interrupting his conversation with his buddies telling him firmly that it was time to go home. He was reluctant to go. Off we went for a second time on a journey, a journey to home, thankfully. Along the way, we met up with a couple of my closest friends who happen to live relatively close to me and talked and giggled the entire way home where we sadly, had to go our separate ways. A Mother's Day Kiss Off Analysis In the article, "A Mother's Day Kiss–Off," author Leslie Bennetts explains her rage about the Mother's Day holiday and the unfair expectations of mothers in modern America. Bennetts feels that the treatment of women and mothers is unfair, causing women and mothers everywhere to be angry. Bennetts proclaims that women feel inferior in most aspects of life, and she explains that this is unfair and all too common. Bennetts challenges women to realize that they are not alone and should keep fighting for themselves. In doing so, Bennetts loses credibility in her idea that women are oppressed housewives due to her negative tone and approach to men and husbands. • 15. Children 's Social And Emotional Development According to childstats.gov since 1985 nearly one in four children with a working mother goes to daycare. Children's social and emotional development are greatly impacted due to the extended amount of time children are in daycare and not cared for by their maternal mother. Behavioral problems, aggressive behavior, resolving conflict, and lower academic performance is examples of these adverse impacts. These negative social and emotional consequences of day care on children range from early childhood and continue into their teens. On average, children spend more than twenty hours per week in a daycare facility. Childcare facilities are linked to the emotional and social development. A researcher, for familtfacts.gov, Jenet Jacob Erickson Ph.D., suggested that children who enter into an establishment before they are a year old and attend until the age of six are likely to possess less social competence, cooperation and express more challenging behavioral problems such as aggression or negative moods. Children are very impressionable during this age range and are likely to act out in drastic measures due to the lack of knowledge on how to communicate their feelings. Children tend to crave attention from their parents by behaving in a disapproving nature. In return, parents respond by providing discipline. Typically, children do not understand the difference between negative and positive attention. The negative impact of extended hours in non–maternal child care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. A Mother's Day Kiss-Off By Leslie Bennetts In the article "A Mother's Day Kiss–Off," author Leslie Bennetts states that people look over and under appreciate mothers, leaving them to have to handle responsibilities on their own. Bennetts supports this by providing stories, interviews, and using assertive language. In the article "The Myth of Co–Parenting: How It Was Supposed to Be. How It Was," author Hope Edelman expresses that she feels as if she has no say in her own home. Edelman proves her point by expressing her opinion and telling stories to persuade the reader to their side. Although Edelman and Bennetts both convey their beliefs about equality, Bennetts explains how she wants equality for all women, while Edelman just wants equality in her own home. In the articles "A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though both are speaking of different ways they are under credited, both would come to a conclusion that women are under appreciated from their husbands and deserve more than what they are getting from them. Edelman and Bennetts both would agree that society's view of women is wrong, but Bennetts wants more equality in the workplace while Edelman wants equality in her home. Bennetts states that "Most husbands still view childcare and household chores as women's work, even when those women are working full–time"(42). She is inferring that gender roles are still programmed into people's minds today and that it is completely wrong. It is viewed by society that a woman is to stay home and care for the children while a man goes out and makes the money. Of course, this is an issue for Edelman as well when Edelman states that all of the housework had fallen back on her, making it her priority, not her husbands. She contends "A lot of slack was starting to pile up around our house. And because I was the only parent spending any real time there, the primary de–slacker was me"(51). Edelman illustrates that she just wants her husband to pick up his part of the job at the house, but since he was the man, he did not. Both of the articles show that gender roles are still present today because of society's view of women. Bennetts begins to explain the pay difference between a man and ... • 25. Analysis Of Acquainted With The Night In Company of the Moon and Inner Sorrow, "Acquainted with the Night" In Robert Frost's poem, "Acquainted with the Night", there is a sense of melancholic loneliness of which the speaker seems to be content with. The reader sees a glimpse of his perpetual depression on a habitual night time walk. He starts by saying he is "one acquainted with the night" (line 1). He feels a sort of companionship with this time of day. Ironically enough, while most everyone else is asleep and quiet, he feels a sense of belonging. The speaker personifies the city through parallels of his own lonely depression. Having walked "out in rain–and back in rain" shows that despite the weather, he is persistent in his practice (line 2). The rain is symbolic of a gloomy mood or even a rough patch in one's life. In this case, the rain is parallel to his actuality. As it rains for an extended period, we can infer that the persona has suffered with depression for some time. Underlying causes of his sadness are not clear. However, the reader gets the impression he lives a life alone. His sense of being is encompassed in the imagery of the somber city streets. He is lonely, a continual moment of subtle dread haunts his life. The repetition of the phrase, "I have", at the beginning of the first four lines is significant as it shows all he experiences on these walks. The walk seems to be a nightly ritual, perhaps a way to clear his thoughts. Insomnia is often linked with feelings of emptiness in a depressed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Best That Never Was: The Life of Marcus Dupree Essay "The Best That Never Was" "The Best That Never Was" is a 30 for 30 documentaries ESPN produced about the life and career of Marcus Dupree. It had everything from racism, eligibility to ethical behavior by everyone involved in sport including agents. I will focus on these three issues in particular because I feel they have the most direct correlation between the film and classroom discussions. I will follow these up with my opinions of the movie and some of the key players. Barry Switzer, who was the coach at Oklahoma at the time, admitted that he and his coaching staff could have handled things better than they did. Like most of the documentaries that ESPN has done, I believe they did a great job in portraying multiple viewpoints. Marcus Dupree more God given talent than most people can even imagine. The Dissimilarity Between Working Mother And Stay Home Mother Sang Min Yue Professor Dr. Rosalyn Jacobs ENGL 1102 24, April 2016 "The Dissimilarity between Working Mother and stay home Mother" During the early years of the 1900's most women were not allowed to work, they also did not have any rights to vote. All the women during these times could only stay inside the house and take care of the familial duties and chores. Women were primarily cooking meals, cleaning inside the house, and also taking care of their own child. On the other hand, most of the men were kings in the household who were in charge as they are the main source of income for making money. Most of the kids growing up during this time period ensured to consume a strong family background because the marriage was everlasting one. Back in the day, the maximum of divorce rates was very low compared to a present day, as of now, but how is that the divorce rates are high in the present today? That is because of the authorization in the 19th Amendment which were giving women right to vote, as they became more self–governing (Harris). Women did not just want to cook, and clean working as a house wife at home any longer, but however women desired to have a job outside just like their husband earning all the money and have a nice working life. They wanted to challenge themselves as they wish to follow their husbands footsteps, to prove that women can also do just like how the men does. Leslie Bennetts A Mother's Day Kiss-Off In her article, "A Mother's Day Kiss–Off", Leslie Bennetts describes the problem of how our culture depicts the typical mother as a stay–at–home mom and how mothers respond to that problem. She begins her argument by commenting on how Mother's Day will come but pass leaving mothers to go back to their excessive responsibilities. She critiques the weight our culture imposes on mothers because raising children is still viewed as the mother's job. Bennetts draws attention to the flaws in our society that prevent women from following their dreams because of motherhood. The first daughter, Maggie, still lives at home with her mother and is her companion. Dee, however, moves on with life and goes out to make something of herself in the world. The story is an account of one of Dee's visits, but the narrator, the mother, makes a very obvious comparison between Dee and Maggie's looks, intelligence, behaviorism, and values. The reader has a lesson to learn since the story is told through the mother's eyes. It is amazing that two siblings can grow up in the same environment and turned out so differently. The story never even suggests that Dee feels sorry for Maggie, instead it can be interpreted that Dee just looks down on her sister, as she does the rest of her family. The reader can also learn about the girls from how they treat others. Just like everything else, they are opposites. Dee "would always look anyone in the eye. Hesitation was no part of her nature"(92) while Maggie walks "chin on chest, eyes on ground, feet in shuffle"(94). Mama also knows that while her sister is there Maggie will be nervous and "stand hopelessly in corners, homely and ashamed of the burns scars down her arms and legs"(92). While Maggie has always felt inferior, Dee seems haughty and kind of has a superiority complex. Dee is also implied to be manipulative. Dee would read to her mother and Maggie knowing it was literature beyond their comprehension just so she could show off. "She used to read to us without pit; forcing words, lies, other folks' habits, whole lives upon us two. She washed us in a river of make–believe, burned us with a lot of knowledge we didn't necessarily need to know"(94). Mother's Day Gift Ideas 4 Great Mother's Day Gift Ideas Hallmark and FTD have made a fortune on gift buying for mom on Mother's Day, but it might be time to move away from the standard bouquet of flowers and the frilly, glittery card and embrace some new gift ideas. Mother's Day is officially and unofficially recognized in most countries worldwide. Whether or not it is called Mother's Day depends upon the country celebrating it. One thing is true no matter where you are, and that is that mothers are honored and given gifts like flowers from their children and grandchildren. As evidenced by statistics from AT&T, more long distance phone calls are made on Mother's Day than any other day of the year. Since mother is such an important figure in your life, maybe you should break away from tradition and give her a gift that is not flowers and candy. 1 – Gift Baskets There are any number of websites devoted to creating and sending a gift basket to mom or grandmom, but they lack the personalization that comes from creating one from scratch. It does not take a lot of money to create a basket, and you may even end up saving money by doing it yourself. Baskets are readily available at any craft or big box store in the gardening section. They are normally constructed of wicker or a woven material and come in a huge selection of sizes. You can tailor the basket to match your mom's personality or her hobbies. The authors draw in the audience and make them receive social, and moral problems by using irony to form satire. When comparing The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and How We Kept Mother's Day by Leacock we see how Stephen Leacock uses irony, and satirical moments to show issues in our society without directly addressing the reader. In The Story of an Hour Chopin uses irony too, but sets the mood to something more serious to obtain the same goals. However because of the different structures in both stories, the usage of irony varies. How We Kept Mother's Day by Stephen Leacock is definitely satire which makes the readers recognize how females are oppressed in society. Leacock presents this irony by making the men oblivious to how they are treating their wives. • 45. Analysis Of A Mother's Day Kiss-Off By Leslie Bennetts Marriage is something that most people go through at some time in their life. When people get married, their lives are drastically changed. They must be devoted to this person, wanting to please them with everything that they do. They are bound to this person and have to make sacrifices for them, even if they do not want to. "A Mother's Day Kiss–Off", written by Leslie Bennetts, and "My Problem with Her Anger", written by Eric Bartels, both share how women feel angry because of the inequality that they experience, either at home or at work. They are forced to make sacrifices that they do not want to make, and how this frustrates them. Both use examples of this anger and frustration from married women, yet they do it in different ways. Bennetts uses research and what she has seen and heard from in other women about their anger, while Bartels uses a real–life experience in his own home. Both authors share how women feel angry because of the inequality that they experience, either at home or at work. In "A Mother's Day Kiss–Off", author Leslie Bennetts says, "Those responsibilities–and the personal sacrifices they typically entail–generate a permanent state of simmering anger in all too many women" (42). Bennetts uses a lot of evidence to support her claim. She uses an example of an interview she had with a woman who was angry that she had to give up her job, which she enjoyed, in order to take off stress because her husband told her to. This goes to show how her sacrifice to please her husband and do what he suggests, raise their children, and do what she needed to relieve stress, which is the last way she wanted to do it. In "My Problem with Her Anger", author Eric Bartels states, "These are the things men do that quietly annoy the living shit out of a woman. Until she becomes a mother. Then they inspire a level of fury unlike anything she has ever experienced. And that fury won't be kept a secret" (58). Bartels feels that he must do everything perfectly, according to his wife, or everything becomes chaos. He utilizes examples from his life that explain this statement. For example, he had made a nice dinner after work for the both of them, with pork chops and zucchini, and she asked why he used rice instead of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Goodnight Ipad: A Parody For The Next Generation Goodnight iPad: A Parody for the Next Generation Modern day society has a hard time saying "goodnight" to their technological devices, a problem that Ann Droyd explores in her parody picture book, Goodnight iPad. Through witty illustrations and a rhythmic word scheme, Droyd follows the nightly routine of a colony of rabbits engrossed by their gadgets and gizmos. The story opens with an exaggerated description of all of the appliances within the household. The mother rabbit, trying to sleep, quickly gets fed up with the noise coming from her family's devices. To resolve this issue, she says "goodnight" to the family toys by throwing every last one them out of the window, then finally sending everyone off to bed. Ann Droyd uses a parodistic approach with exaggeration and personification to convey the deeply rooted obsession with technology in the twenty first century. ... This is a time that Margaret Wise Brown explores in her picture book, Goodnight Moon. In this bedtime story, a rabbit says goodnight to a wide array of miscellaneous items in his room, including a quiet mother rabbit who whispers, "'hush'" (Brown). On the walls hang paintings of nursery rhymes that date back to the sixteenth century. In the corner, a bookshelf sits fully stocked and a toy dollhouse rests lightly against the wall. I'm sorry, who is this?" I replied concernedly through the house phone. "This is Dr. N., your mother's gynecologist at Mount Sinai Hospital. I need to speak to your father urgently." It was 4 years ago, May 22, 2013, when I received the heart–breaking phone call. My mother had expected to be released from the hospital the next day after 1 week of surgery. I thought her hysterectomy, a surgical process of the removal of uterine fibroids in her body, was suppose to cure her. Instead, the surgeons accidently punctured her bladder, causing her to undergo surgery two more times within the same month. Typically, it takes a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When we arrived at the hospital, I gently opened the medical room, not knowing what to expect. My mother was lying in bed with her eyes fixed on the plain–white ceiling. Her face was colorless and she lost a significant amount of weight within a week. My heart sank to the pit of my stomach. I could hardly breathe. I strained to pull a calming breath of air into my lungs as I walked into the room. Tears filled my eyes, blurring my vision. Her body was there but her soul was elsewhere. It killed to see her in so much pain. My father and I willingly stayed at the hospital that night. Missing eight days of school within a span of three weeks, I continually struggled with a heavy sense of powerlessness, looking for ways to affect change in the situation. Many days I held her ashen hands, massaged her feet, and put ice packs on her forehead when her fever increased. • 57. The Advantages And Dilemmas Of Child Care For Children Tamai Butler Coach Beale Senior Capstone March , 9 , 2018 One of the biggest decisions parents have to make after choosing to have a child involves deciding who will care for that child, especially during the early developmental years. Parents choose to resolve this difficult dilemma in many ways. Some families choose to use full– time childcare, while in other families one parent stays or works at home for all or part of the time. In other families, a parent chooses to leave the workforce completely in order to become the primary caregiver. Finding appropriate and affordable child care is often a challenge. There are different options available in different places, and at many different price points although all options are expensive. Each care option comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. It can be confusing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nonetheless, my parents' friends would routinely leave their children under my care when we got together with other families for play dates and tea parties they obviously saw something in me that I grew aware of more strongly as I got older. If I was always naturally going to gravitate into a role which involved caring for children, I get huge satisfaction from working with people in general, old or young. As much as my current role is to do with how much I love to care for children, there are other important aspects involved in my career path. It is not just communicating well with children that is a vital skill but also how you communicate with the people that are most important to that child. As a nanny you learn skills which enable you to help children to develop into happy, healthy little people. To be able to show parents how to develop their own confidence and skills to care for their children and see them build the closest of connections, must be one of the best feelings you can get as a ... • 59. The story of Dawn reinforces this well–known quote by demonstrating the heavy silence of murder and it's feeble justifications. A few years after the Holocaust, one of it's victims, Elisha, is recruited from his home in Paris as a terrorist in the city of Palestine. In his short time there, he has participated in violent group retaliation against the British, yet has never been forced to kill individually– until now. This story documents the tale of a young boy's struggle to come to term with the human's ability to commit cruel acts, as well as his struggle to justify the ultimate act of cruelty: murder. Within it's startling revelations of the human conscience, Dawn illuminates that the comforts of revenge are only temporary; murder terminates all answers. With this, the author, Elie Wiesel, is able crumble the foundations of terrorisms and the reasoning that hate can ever resolve hate in his first novel, called Dawn. Dawn takes place in Palestine, a place where the Jewish community wakes up to a red, vengeful sky. After surviving the Holocaust the main character, Elisha, has been recruited as a terrorist for the Freedom Movement. For Elisha, who is now without a family, the Freedom Movement represents a new dawn, an act of hope, and most importantly, a retaliation in the name of faith to secure what 's rightfully his peoples. • 65. Analysis Of The Book Night By Elie Wiesel McBride 1 Brandy McBride McAndrew ELAAugust 6, 2017 Night In the book Night by Elie Wiesel there are many instances where his use of imagery helps establish tone and purpose. For example Elie Wiesel used fire (sight) to represent just that. The fire helps prove that the tone is serious and mature. In no way did Wiesel try to lighten up the story about the concentration camps or the Nazis. His use of fire also helps show his purpose. "Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, that turned my life into one long night seven times scaled. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However he then stated "Where is he? This is where––hanging here from this gallows..." "that night the soup tasted like corpses" (page 65). Here Wiesel had two very different opinions on the soup. The way he described the soup in the first quote showed he was hungry and happy although once he realized the truth everything changed. He soon found the soup to be repulsing and he wanted nothing to do with it. For example when he says the soup tasted like corpses he means that they did not feel the satisfaction of eating because they just witnessed a horrific occurrence. This helps with tone because the reader can tell how quickly his tone went downhill. Last but not least is the sense of smell which Wiesel used throughout the book by explaining the burners and crematories. "In front of us, those flames. In the air, the smell of burning flesh. It must have been around midnight. We had arrived. In Birkenau" (28, Wiesel). Along with the smell Wiesel had witnessed and heard awful events that took place in the burners. "Over there. Do you see the chimney over there? Do you see it? And the flames, do you see them?" (Yes, we saw the flames.) "Over there, that's where they will take you. Over there will be your grave. You still don't understand? You sons of bitches. Don't you understand anything? You will be burned! Burned into a cinder! Turned to ashes" (30–31, Wiesel). This shows a different tone. It shows fear and worry because does anyone really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On this past Saturday, I traveled to Monroe, LA to attend a Mother's Day blues concert. At the concert we had table seats on the floor. The area where I was seated, someone decided to buy us drinks. The reason I enjoyed the concert so much was because it was a great view. I didn't have to struggle to see the performers on stage. Also, some of the performers got off stage and came into the area where we were seated. Being at the concert listening to such great music brought back a lot of memories. Father and son trudge slowly and silently through a snow covered forest in hopes of finding owls. It is a story of patience, perseverance, but most of all hope. "When you go owling you don't' need words or warm or anything but hope". The illustrations for Owl Moon are done by John Schoenherr. The illustrator chose pen with watercolors on d'Arches paper. We can take the lesson further and explore what animals stay in the winter and how they survive. Since this is a story of what a boy did with his father, perhaps the students can discuss or write about an activity they have done with a parent, grandparent, or friend. I remember writing a short story when I was seven, about snowmobiling with my grandfather. I drew a picture with the story; I think my mother laminated it. I chose Owl Moon because it reminded so much of where I live. Although I have never been on an "owling", I have had many opportunities to hear them. The words of the author and the illustrator transported me to our meadow path. "Our feet crunched over the crisp snow", reminds me when my mother, sisters and I went to the meadow to make plaster of paris molds of deer prints. Yolen graduated from Smith College and at the age of 22 published her first book called, "Pirates in Petticoats". Jane has been nominated many times as a finalist for the Nebula Award. But, the lessons you learn and the person you become in the aftermath is a little easier to explain. My mother was my best friend. She was ornery, funny, and brilliant in her own way. She always knew how to soothe me and she always made the effort to, even when she was combatting her own issues. In 2009, my parents divorced due to my father's anger issues and drug use. In addition to becoming a single parent, she was also physically disabled due to work injuries and dealt with pain almost constantly. Blending or fitting in are omnipresent issues that must be dealt with. For children of immigrants, this difficulty is only intensified through language. Both Amy Tan and Khang Nguyen strategically use narrative anecdotes and employ several rhetorical devices to illustrate this struggle in their works, "Mother Tongue" and "The Happy Days," respectfully. As the stories develop, so do their characters, allowing for subtle reflection. At hoe, Amy Tan maintained a loving relationship with her mother. She recalls how people disrespected her mother in department stores, restaurants and other places. Her mother, on a daily basis, received a constant condescending attitude from people. Tan became very uncomfortable with such attitudes. When her mother is disrespected or treated unfairly, Tan would simply "sit there red–faced and quiet". She never felt angry toward her mother, like Khang did. However, she did feel that her mother's informal English limited her perception of her. I came early to help the teachers with the preparations. The lessons today also concentrated on mothers and family. The students were asked to find words for each letter of the word "MOTHER" that they can use to describe their mother. Then we helped them use those words to form sentences. They were also given some words with the word "mother" in it e.g. mother tongue, motherland, mother nature, etc. Then the students were asked what the word is for "mother" in their mother tongue and how they and their children address their mothers. The students also spoke about their plans for mother's day. During the break everyone enjoyed what the teachers have prepared. There was some music too. Some students from Level B, C, and D went on the stage to speak about their mothers. After the coffee break we borrowed some of the pictures the teachers brought of their mothers and their families and taught the students how to ask questions about a photograph. Then they were given handouts and were divided into pairs. The handouts had some pictures with few words under each picture. The students had to use the questions they learned earlier to ask each other about the pictures and use the words given to answer those questions.
