B Co 1-12 Cavalry As A Fire Team Leader
I was assigned to B Co 1–12 Cavalry as a dismounted fire team leader when the 1–12 Cavalry
deployed with the rest of 3rd BDE, 1st Cavalry Division in support of Iraqi Freedom in December of
2008. I deployed a few weeks after everyone else due to a death in the family. Once I finally arrived
at the coalition outpost (COP) where my company was positioned, I quickly fell in with my platoon
as they had already begun their patrolling of our Area of Operations (AO). Our COP was positioned,
quite literally, in the middle of nowhere in the Nineveh Province. After a few weeks of patrolling,
our platoon was tasked with taking over a COP to the north in the city of Hammam al–Alil, which is
about 30 kilometers south of Mosul. We were taking over an area that was, up to that point, the
responsibility of a Military Transition Team (MiTT). The COP, COP Scorpion, consisted of a small
open area just large enough to park our vehicles, two long rectangular two story buildings that at one
time served as a college dormitory, with a small space to the rear of the second building that served
as a mechanics bay. Around the complex was a 12–15 feet high stone wall, with one entrance on the
COP, with a large metal slab on wheels that was used to secure it. Around the COP was the remains
of a college, which had since shut down and was now being used by the Iraqi Army to house a
battalion of soldiers. We were an American COP right in the middle of an Iraqi Army complex.

Research Paper On Conic Sections
Conic Sections: the Gateway to the Universe
Rationale:
The purpose of this exploration is to discuss how conics are used to express figurative paths for both
celestial and artificial bodies in the universe. In order to thoroughly express the significance of
conics in astronomy and aerospace engineering, I have explored the applications in which conic
sections are used to better the understanding of space. This paper will discuss how conic sections are
used to determine the path of celestial bodies, the history of how conic sections were used to
describe these paths, and use these mechanics in order to launch artificial satellites into the universe.

However, the original qualities of these conics are altered to fit the orbit components.
Firstly, in the mathematical world, the foci are located outside of the ellipse, however, in terms of
space, the foci are on the inside. This is because the object being orbited, called the primary, must be
one of the focal points that the orbiter goes around. The study of the motions of space vehicles and
satellites moving under the influence of forces is called orbital mechanics. Orbital mechanics are
composed of many factors, which can be expressed through the equation of an ellipse, only called
different names (Braeunig).
Orbital Elements:
Argument of Periapsis: the distance between orbiter and the primary (Braeunig)
Inclination: the distance between the orbital plane of the satellite and the equator of its primary
(Braeunig)
Eccentricity: distance between the foci (Braeunig)
Longitude of Ascending Node: the longitude of the celestial body

Balinese Cockfight Summary
Reading Report #2
Clifford Geertz, "Deep Play: Notes on a Balinese Cockfight" *Answers to Reading Report question
are intended to guide your explorations for your essay. Each answer should be a paragraph length
(about 5–6 sentences).
1. How is this essay constructed? Describe the parts of the piece (and how many, etc.) Provide brief
descriptions of the work that each part is doing and how it goes about doing it.
"Deep Play: Notes on the Balinese Cockfight" is divided into eight or nine sections, each with their
own distinct style and message. The first section is titled "The Raid" and is told in the style of a
narrative. In it, Geertz reflects on his time in Bali with his wife in April of 1958. He reflects on the
way the Balinese people treated him; during his first week or so in Bali, Geertz and his wife were
treated as though they didn't exist. After witnessing a cockfight and running away just like the
Balinese people who also attended, however, Geertz and his wife were treated as though they were
Balinese themselves, and were completely accepted into Balinese society. In the second section, "Of
Cocks and Men", Geertz reflects on different aspects of Balinese culture and how Balinese men,
despite cockfighting being illegal, strongly identify with it and even use the term to refer to different
types of men and their personalities. Additionally, Geertz points out that besides cockfighting, the
Balinese are strongly against doing anything that resembles an animal,

Strategic Issues the Association Should Address Essay
TO: APSA Council
RE: Council Discussion Topic: Organized Sections
This overview is designed to help launch a Council small group discussion about journals, and about
strategic issues the Association may wish to address. The memo notes salient issues the Association
is or will soon face. The themes included here are surely not complete and the goal is for a
discussion that helps ferret out or sharpen heretofore unarticulated issues as well as the ones we see
now.
I. Introduction
APSA Organized Sections have been a mainstay of the Association since first formed in the early
1980's. There has not been a comprehensive review of Sections and the ways in which the
prominence of Sections has shaped the Association since then, ... Show more content on

This increases the total cost of APSA membership commensurately, especially consequential if a
member seeks to join multiple sections. We worry this may discourage multiple section
membership, diminish opportunity for "cross–fertilization" among fields; and create sticker shock
for APSA membership in general.
At the same time, there may be potential value for the Association of being aligned with a "bundle"
of journal content organized across topical areas – a kind of journal–based analogue to the annual
meeting division structure.
As a specific matter, APSA has the opportunity help the State Politics and Policy Organized Section
purchase its journal from the university press that now owns it, by lending the Section money with
payback revenues over 10 years. Assuming the business deal made sense, would such a step make
sense from the standpoint of an Association–wide journals policy.
APSA might seek to bring Section journals more under the Association umbrella itself and applying
journal guidelines, unbundling subscriptions from Section membership (while leaving editorial
control with the Sections.)
C. Governance and Liabilities
APSA's Organized Sections operate under the Association's Tax ID number, and legally are elements
of APSA as a corporation. A few APSA sections engage in outside activities such as separate
conferences. Generally, these are handled entirely by section members

The Stones Cry Out Themes Essay
The Stones Cry Out: Analytical Essay In Hikaru Okuizumi's book, "The Stones Cry Out", we follow
a man named Manase through his life after the war. Although this seems like just a look on a mans
life, there are many themes that tie us in. Hikaru uses many literary elements to develop those
themes. Four of those elements are complication, false assumptions, flashbacks, and foreshadowing.
Although there are many key themes, the two I noticed the most were the psychological effects of
war and family complications due to the loss of a loved–one. Complications are defined as obstacles
that increase tension. In the beginning of the book, the complications would be when Manase is
faced with his memories of the time he was in the cave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This quote also gives us the forshadow that we will find out who the killer is. We don't actually find
the killer but we do get to hear the opposite side of the story, through Takaaki. As you can see,
Hikaru Okuizumi uses literary elements to develop his themes. Flashbacks, foreshadowing, false
assumptions, and complications are the elements I found most apparent in this book. They aren't the
only elements though, he does have more, like imagery and personification through the symbols of
the book. Though this book leaves us with many questions, it was a good read and I found it very
interesting. Hikaru Okuizumi is a profound author, and this novel proves

Analysis Of The Book ' Cordelia Achen '
The Role of the Cone in Book One
Cordelia Achen As the title suggests, Apollonius' Conics deals with the various conic sections,
shapes that arise when one cuts the cone in different ways. However, we leave the cone rather
quickly in our foray into the conic sections, exploring the parabola, hyperbola, circle, and ellipse as
they exist outside the cone and the various line relationships that comprise them. After we find the
diameter for these sections, the cone makes a sudden reappearance as we construct the conic
sections from given lines and angles. Why do we return to the cone? Why leave it in the first place?
What the cone gives in book one of Apollonius is the curved line for each of the shapes. Its absence
allows us to see more relationships between the conic sections, and its reappearance demonstrates
how much farther we have to go before truly understanding curvature. Each of the conic sections are
defined by curve, and this curve is given to them by the way they are cut from the cone. The circle,
for instance, found in any section cut parallel to the base, has a completely regular curve and is
bound wholly within the cone. Thus the line joins in on itself. The parabola, however, which is
found in any section parallel to one side of the axial triangle or when the diameter meets the axial
triangle before the vertex, has a less regular curve because it follows a different part of the conic
section. The parabola also never meets itself because it is not bound by the

Project #2
Project #2 – Conic Sections Conic sections are the various gemetric figures created by the
interection of a plane. They are among the oldest curves in history and is one of the oldest area of
study for mathmaticians. conics were discovered by Menaechmus (c. 375 – 325 BC), a Greek pupil
of Plato and Exodus. He was trying to solve the famous problem duplicating a cube. Euclid studied
them and Appollonius reinforced and expanded previous results of conics into a book he named
Conic Sections. It is a series of eight books with 487 propositions. He applied his findings to the
study of planetary motion and it was used to advance the development of Greek astronomy. It is
because of Appollonius that the name ellipse, parabola, and hyperbole were ... Show more content

In some cases, the circle is listed as a fourth conic. A circle is really a unique ellipse. Conics have
very unique features. For instance curves can also be defined using a straight line, the directrix, and
a point called the focus. If you measure the distance from the focus to a point on the curve, and
perpendicularly from the directrix to that point. The two distances will always be the same ratio for
an ellipse the ratio is less than 1, for a parabola the ratio is 1, and for a hyperbola the ratio is greater
than 1. These ratios are known as the eccentricity, so we can say that any conic section is all points
whose distance to the focus is equal to the eccentricity times the distance to the directrix. A circle
has an eccentricity of zero, an ellipse has an eccentricity between 0 and 1, a parabola has an
eccentricity of 1, and a hyperbola has an eccentricity greater than 1.
Ellipse is known by its focal definition: it's a locus of all points P in the plane the sum of whose
distances from two fixed points F1 and F2, the foci, has a constant value. The Belgian
mathematician G. P. Dandelin in 1822 gave a beautiful proof of a conic section is a finite shape then
it is always an ellipse. First imagine a huge sphere S1 inside a cone. Let the sphere be so big as to
not touch the cutting plane. Assume it touches the cone over the circle k1. Shrink the sphere S1
(suck it into the cone) until it touches the plane at point F1.

Geogebra Lab Report
This investigation did have its limitations however. The aspect of drawing the design on a piece of
paper posed no limitations, these began to start when technology was in use. Creating a domain for
the circle on geogebra was beyond my capabilities. This did not dramatically affect my design but it
would improve the overall atheistic of the piece. Other limitations included the inability to create
curved edges with ease (for example the nose). This was possible, however was very difficult as I
did not have the knowledge to create these using technology.
This investigation looked at five different mathematical modelling techniques and the effect when
domains were set for a function. These modelling techniques were used to construct an illustration.

The equation for the linear function used was Ax–By=A_1–B_1. A and B are represented in the
form A/B after finding the slope using the formula (y_2–y_1)/x_(2–x_1 ) . Once the slope has been
found these are substituted into the equation as well a known coordinate on the line segment
(A_1,B_1). This process can be seen in figure 3
Aim
To use mathematical modelling techniques to create a picture using a combination of linear,
quadratic, cubic, rational functions and circles. The picture will be reproduced using graphical
software and particular attention will be paid to identification of domain of the chosen functions.
(Maenpaa, M 2015).
Method and Results
A picture was drawn onto some graph paper. This needed to consist of a minimum 6 or more
functions that include the five modelling techniques (linear, quadratic, cubic, rational functions and
circles). The picture designed was popular cartoon character Homer Simpson. Once the picture had
all coordinates and functions labelled it was then recreated on a graphing package (GeoGebra)

The Use of and Elipse to Help Pool Player
Architecture, games, astronomy and medicine have something in common, even if it's not obvious at
first sight. What connects these different areas is called Conic Sections. Where do they come from?
Conic Sections are figures formed by the intersection of a plane and a right circular cone. A conic
section may be a circle, an ellipse, a parabola, or a hyperbola . They were first discovered by a
Greek mathematician, Menaechmus. He wanted to come up with a model that showed all three
different conic sections. With the help of Appollonius, they came up with the "Double Napped
Cone", which clearly shows all three different shapes. In this project, I'm going to study and analyze
specifically the ellipse. What is an ellipse? It's the set of points on a plane whose sum of the distance
of two fixed points is constant . The main parts on an ellipse are: center, foci and vertices. The focus
is the most important and the most used in real life. The foci determine the shape of the ellipse,
therefore the vertices, endpoints, major axis and minor axis. The ellipse is found mostly in
architecture and astronomy. For example, in London, the St. Paul Cathedral has an elliptical form.
Studies have proven that if two people stand at the two foci, and one of them whispers, the other guy
can hear it clearly. In astronomy, lots of people confuse ellipse with eclipse; THEY ARE TWO
COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS! The ellipse is very useful to astronomers because it defines
the distance between the sun

The, The Trunk Of The Tree Essay
This is where the main problem(s) the company is facing is stated, normally it is one to three points
that describes the issues. It is important as a standalone because it is the main issue. Even if you
gave the company you are studying this it would still be valuable to them. It is the diagnoses. The
statement of the problem is like the trunk of the tree. It is the main steam of the case study; you have
to understand what this aspect is before the other four to five parts are completed. The rest branch
off of this. Which makes it the most important part of the whole outline while being the shortest
part.
2. Situation Analysis:
This is the section where the SWOTs (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunity and Threats) are done. This
is done in order to understand the entities of the problem (it is the what is _____ section).
Standalone it is the description of the bases of the issues, with this some things that are wrong could
be fixed. Such as in BigSpaceship, when the CEO did not know which category the company fell in.
The SWOT could have provided the information for him to realize this and perhaps come up with at
least one solution to his issues. When this part is compiled with the other sections it serves as a
description to the areas that need to be fixed or left alone. Each section plays its own roll, this one is
a description.
3. Strategic Analysis:
Strategic Analysis is the trouble shooting sections. Basically every possible idea of how to fix the

Their orders were that once they were able to breach the main gate they were to begin to remove the

the front of the gate, chairs, benches, large rocks, mounds of dirt, and a couple of desks. SSG Arroa

How Does Plath Use Of Personification
Plath uses the simple tree and flower as manifestations of desire. Personification is heavily used to
transform the tree and the flower from plants to people the narrator wants to become, and they are
also used to emphasize the traits the narrator desires. The tree is fruit–bearing, stable, and peaceful.
The narrator is upset that she lacks the tree's ability to bear fruit, and the fruit represents
achievement, and the lack of fruit represents the narrator's discomfort at lacking achievement. Plath
writes, "Sucking up minerals and motherly love / So that each March I may gleam into leaf," (l.3;
l.4) not only showing the emphasis personification creates, but the usage of the word "I" shows how
the narrator is constantly wishing to be the tree ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important pieces of punctuation are the periods at the end of select lines. Periods are used
to end thoughts, while commas at the end are used to indicate slight change in the thought. Using
periods as dividers, the poem is divided into seven sections, all different but reinforce the ideas of
insecurity, desire, isolation, and neglect. The first section, which is only line one, explains the
narrator's rejection of herself, which easily transitions to sections two and three. These two sections
describe what she wants to be, first with the narrator becoming them, and then her comparing herself
to them. Sections two and three explain the effect others have on insecurity because they represent
the idealized version of her. Section four details her isolation, neglect, and invisibility to them. The
setting of night, which represents darkness, offers a half–baked explanation to the narrator's
invisibility, however, the fact there is starlight shows that the trees and flowers are purposefully
ignoring her. With this invisibility, her feelings snowball into neglect and isolation. Section five is
similar to sections two and three; it is a repeat of her comparison to the trees and flowers. Section
six is a reinforcement of her insecurities, and her out of placeness. Section seven is a detailed
continuation of six, but the ending of section seven represents her insecurities and her neglect. Word
pairings such as "useful... finally" (l.19) and "touch me for one...have time for me" (l.20) clearly
demonstrate her hope that if she changes, she will be accepted by them. Plath's usage of end
punctuation creates an easy flowing cycle of insecurity; the insecurity is made known, the
justification behind it is shown; it is then reiterated; and the narrator finally finds peace in the
fantasy of being like the trees and the flowers. The constant

Evaluation Of An Anti Bullying Program
Initially we thought we were going to be able to conduct an evaluation, but with lack of time, we
realized that was no longer feasible. Instead, we decided to take the idea of focusing on the
evaluation tools and develop an evaluation how–to of Rachel's challenge. Our goal was to have a
manual to present to UVMC and allow them to continue the evaluation further with our guided
manual. During our evaluation of Rachel's Challenge, it became a concern to us that this program
wasn't really a bullying prevention program, but more a program focused on character building.
After a lack of communication between the UVMC and Rachel's Challenge connections we decided
to shift our focus. We still wanted our final product to be a manual, but decided to focus on
presenting it to a broader audience. What we went forward with was developing a how–to manual
for evaluating an anti–bullying program. As I had already done some background research, getting
started went smoothly.
The process of developing the manual began with our previous class work. We used our complied
work as a reference point to set up the contents of the manual. Since our class work was focused on
Rachel's Challenge we had to redo everything, minus my background work. Section were divided
between Taylor and I and we each were responsible for three sections and manual and split
responsibility for continuing research on the background section. Dr. Green suggested we meet with
Randy, a research specialist from the library.

experts helping the vast number of customers coming in. They had great displays, from mounted

Low- Income Housing
Research Paper on Sustainable Low– Income Housing The most successful, long term, low–income
housing projects are those that use sustainable design and address the social, cultural, and economic
needs of residents. Traditionally built low–income housing projects are associated with high crime
rates and high mortality rates among the residents who live in them. They do not provide for the
needs of residents, resulting in many of the problems these low–income housing projects face today.
These problems range from endangerment of human life, psychological afflictions due to the high
stresses that are endured by residents, disease epidemics caused by overcrowding and unsanitary
living conditions (in combination with a substandard public ... Show more content on

This can start to override the stigma often associated with low–income housing and even serving as
a point of pride for those who live there" (Marin). Green housing projects also provide a healthier
living environment than traditional housing projects (Marin). A Cornell study, comparing over 200
low–income and mid–income children in upstate New York focused on the effects of living
conditions on health, and found that the poorer children were five times as likely to suffer from
environmental stresses which lead directly to health problems (Public Health; Overcrowded and
noisy living conditions may contribute to bad health). "Researchers examined crowding, noise and
housing quality for the sample of 8– to 10–year–olds and found that the levels of stress hormones
measured among the low–income children were consistently higher, indicating those children were
under physiological and psychological stress." Sustainable low–income housing has the effect of
reducing these environmental stressors because it inherently incorporates the issues of occupant
well–being as much as it incorporates green building materials into design. In 1990 the New York
Times ran an article on the skyrocketing rate of epidemics in the inner cities since the 1980's. Urban
poor, the residents of inner cities, are living in what reporter Elizabeth Rosenthal terms

Tesla's Business Analysis
This report will consist of 4 other sections. The next section is section 2 which will talk about a
variety of different things. The first thing that will be mentioned in section 2 is some of the
evolution of the Internet of Things and how it has advanced. One of the examples that section 2 will
bring up is an examples about GE. Specifically, section 2 has a part about how GE has been using
apps to save time on certain work that can take a long time when done normally. That is one
example about how a business is currently using the Internet of Things to make their business more
efficient. This section also covers a company called DHL. DHL has been able to partner with other
companies to make their business better and more efficient. One of the ways they have used the
Internet of Things is in their warehouses. GE will also be covered in section 2. One of the ways GE
has used the Internet of Things is by making apps that help them save down time when it comes to

Section 3 will show many different examples about how many different businesses are using the
Internet of Things to improve their business and provide the specifics in which they are using the
devices. An example of a company that will be used in this section is Tesla. Tesla uses the Internet
of Things to have their vehicles drive by themselves automatically. Tesla has many other examples
of using the Internet of Things to help their business and the rest of them will be covered in that
section. This section goes in depth to five different companies and explain how they have used the
Internet of Things to their advantage. The five companies mentioned are Tesla, IBM, SAP,
Facebook, and Comcast. Facebook has been looking into making a couple of new devices that could
rival companies such as Amazon and Google with the way they plan on implementing the Internet of
Things. The specifics of those devices will be analyzed more in depth in section

The Fundamental Principle Of Medical Practice
It is a fundamental principle in medical law that before treating a competent patient a medical
practitioner must first get their patient's consent. Otherwise, they risk being charged with battery or
medical negligence. However, the consent is not considered effective unless the patient is
competent, meaning that they are able to make a decision for themselves. It is presumed that this is
the case unless there is evidence that they are not. Further, the patient must be informed, i.e. the
doctor must provide any relevant and necessary information (failing to do that may result in charges
of deliberate withholding of information). Additionally, the consent must be voluntary – the patient
must not be coerced or under influence. Lastly, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In such cases the law has repeatedly proclaimed the primacy of the patient's autonomy and self–
determination. It has been ruled by the Court of Appeal that a competent adult patient has an
absolute right to refuse to consent to medical treatment for any reason or for no reason at all. Their
right is not reduced or diminished merely because their decision to exercise it might appear morally
repugnant. Once they have made their informed choice, there must be complete acceptance of it
with no effort made to dissuade them from it. It could be argued that, morally, the pregnant woman
is not under duty to allow physical invasions which are against her personal beliefs or exceed the
degree of physical suffering she is prepared to endure. It seems unjust to demand things from
pregnant women that are not demanded of no one else in society. Similarly, no adult has ever been
coerced to donate organs or tissue to someone already born. By contrast, some maintain that any
pregnant woman who does not want to consent to operation to save her foetus's life must be
regarded as incompetent. Competency is at the bottom of all the Caesarean sections cases from the
1990's which exposed how fragile the patient's self–determination is in the face of preserving valued
life. The following cases exemplify the general vulnerability of autonomy and the means through
which the courts have trumped it. In Re MB the patient has consented to a

Original Technical Writing Guide And Why I Redesigned
The purpose of this memo is to give you a better understanding on what revisions were made to the
original technical writing guide and why I redesigned it in the way that I did.
Summary
This document as whole, was missing a lot of crucial information that I felt needed to be included in
a technical writing guide. As a whole, I believe that my redesign of the document will prove to be
more useful and more navigable than the original that was presented. In the discussion, I will be
analyzing each part of the guide that I felt needed to be revised.
Discussion
One of the first things that will stick out from the guide is the color scheme chosen for both the text
and background, blue and green text on a beige background respectively. Since this is supposed to
be an academic resource for engineering students, I felt it was most appropriate to have a white
background with black text, thus helping to bolster the professionalism of the document. When I
first opened the document, I felt as if it was very distracting and possibly may have been written for
those in high school, but upon further inspection, I discovered that this was written for students at
the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Unless this is a cultural difference of some kind, I feel
as if the author merely wanted to attract readers to use the guide. Even after fixing the color scheme,
it was still very hard to navigate the document.
In order to fix the issue of navigability, I changed each of the primary

Lesson 2: Quadratic Function
The students took their benchmark yesterday so today they are starting a new chapter. As the
students are coming in, they borrow calculators and get started on their warm–up. For their warm–
up they need to draw the line of symmetry for two figures: a half circle and a right–pointing arrow.
Mrs. Hopely sets the timer for two minutes and the teachers walk around and check answers. The
students are wired today. During the warm–up, they are screaming and talking. One students is
complaining about needing to borrow a pencil. When the timer goes off, the teachers collect their
warm–ups and tell them to get out their notebook to take notes. They also hand back the benchmark

Woodward collects their benchmark and sets the timer for 5 minutes to give them time to fill out the
goal sheet. After they turn in their goal sheet, they start copying down notes. Today they are doing
lessons 10.1–10.2: Quadratic Functions. The objective for this lesson is to be able to find the axis of
symmetry and the vertex of a quadratic function. A quadratic function is a nonlinear function that
can be written in standard form: y=ax2+bx+c where a≠0. Quadratic functions have a u–shaped
graph called a parabola. The students complain about taking notes, but Mrs. Hopley explains that
this section, along with the chapter 10 test, are easy if you pay attention. She goes on to explain that
the most basic quadratic function is y=x2. She also puts the graph on the board, to illustrate to the
students how the axis of symmetry and the vertex relate to that parabola. The axis of symmetry is a
line that passes through the vertex and divers the parabola in half. The vertex is the lowest or highest
point of the parabola. Today, they are only going to be finding the vertex and the Axis of Symmetry
(AOS). Then tomorrow, they are going to learn how to graph parabolas. Surprisingly, the students

Essay on Leadership by Explanation / Example
"In order to be a good leader, there are two things to remember. Lead from the Front and always set
the Example. From these two leadership principles, everything else will fall into place."
These are the words that have ended all of my counseling sheets with since I began writing them as
a Corporal and will continue to do as long as I counsel Marines.
I was brought up in the Marine Corps with this philosophy and have adopted it as my own. Leading
from the front is often times one of the leadership principles that is easier said by some than actually

As an individual Marine from the rank of Lance Corporal and below, it is ultimately your
responsibility to take care of yourself. At the rank of Corporal and Sergeant you become more of a

realize are more like administrators at the platoon level. And by administrator I mean several
different things. From teaching a young Lieutenant and mentoring the upcoming Non–
commissioned officers to holding Marines to all standards and being able to follow through with the

Gunnery Sergeants resemble the grandparents, the all knowing and all seeing. The First Sergeants

older siblings, the ones that have been there and done it all. The disciplinarians of

Conic Sections in Taxicab Geometry
In this essay the conic sections in taxicab geometry will be researched. The area of mathematics
used is geometry. I have chosen this topic because it seemed interesting to me. I have never heard
for this topic before, but then our math teacher presented us mathematic web page and taxicab
geometry was one of the topics discussed there. I looked at the topic before and it encounter
problems, which seemed interesting to explore. I started with a basic example, just to compare
Euclidean and taxicab distance and after that I went further into the world of taxicab geometry. I
explored the conic sections (circle, ellipse, parabola and hyperbola) of taxicab geometry. All

All of them are distant from the origin or 5 units (kilometers) and that is where the Euclidian and
taxi distance match each other. To find other points, we should move among x–axis and then up and
down as far as possible. We have enough fuel for five kilometers in one–way, which means that:
|x|+|y|=5
When solving the equation we get: y=5–x for x,y>0 y=x–5 for x>0; y≤0 y=–x–5 for x,y≤0 y=x+5
for x≤0;y>0
So when all the functions are drawn we get the final picture of taxi circle.

A circle is a set of all points that are given distance, called radius, usually denoted by r, away from

Essay about What is Homelessness?
Before going into the main subject this essay will be looking at various aspects of homelessness
which includes the background history, the major causes of homelessness, sections of our
community that are likely to become homeless and social construction of homelessness.
Furthermore, I will also be looking at government policies, act of parliament as well as debates from
different commentators on homelessness.
From my understanding there are people who make it a point to blame those who are homeless
however, not all homeless people choose or wanted to be homeless. Some people become homeless
through no fault of their own as society lead us to believe. People could become homeless due to
various reasons, which includes loss of job, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nonetheless, indications from my study suggest that majority of homeless people want to work and
get back to normality but as in most cases, lack of adequate support meant that homeless people
have no accommodation of their own to return to after work and as a result, they end up sleeping on
the street. This kind of behaviour is seen as a deviant act in the society because, it does not fit in
with society's norms and values. Society's perception of the homeless is that they are lazy and
generally, view them as irresponsible drug users. Perhaps, on the down side society fell to recognise
the fact that many homeless people suffers from illness which prevented them from working. In
addition to the above, there may be many other reasons such as family break–up, loss of job, drug
misuse sexual abuse, physical or emotional abuse.
To support this argument Walsh, et al (2000) emphasised that the causes of homelessness could be
viewed in two ways. This could be due to personal circumstances of the homeless person, such as
drug misuse, alcohol problems, institutional background, unemployment, globalisation and mental
illness. The second approach is to examine the wider social or structural factors which could be
explain like those personal circumstances. For example, rent arrears may be as a result of
government economic policy, which outcome might be a decline in employment opportunities.

How Technology Has Changed Society
Surgeries Whether it is the technology that allows us to peer deep into the body or medicines that
extend the lives of those with chronic diseases, it is easy to see how advances in health and medicine
have touched the lives of nearly every person on the planet. (Childs) In order to fully understand the
effect technology has on society, we must know what technology means. Technology is simply the
application of science in our daily lives.(Biggs) It's using scientific research to supply our needs and
resolve our problems. With this being said, technology has helped in many aspects of life, including
the medical field.
Imagine what life was like in the past without the scientific technologies we have today. Imagine a
world without vaccinations, antibiotics, medicines, or medical procedures technology has allowed us
to do today. Technological advancements have helped humans in many ways and one specific
example is when it comes to treating patients in hospitals through surgery. The goal of surgeries is to
extend lives and prevent any crucial illnesses. Surgeries have helped patients who suffer bad
illnesses that can kill them to gain more hope in life. Nowadays, surgery can be as painful as an ant
bite as opposed to back one hundred years ago when people would actually die because of the
surgery and not because of the disease or illness they had.

sounds great, and I see a lot of heads shaking out there and I was kind of, at least surprised when I
heard that because for years and years every time you needed an additional body in one of those
maneuver battalions they go immediately to the medical platoon and take one of your medics. That
is a historic thing since the Civil War, and it is obvious to me that we are going to have to be very,
we are intimately involved in the decontamination of patients, i.e. we are going to have to identify
those augmentees we are going to receive from that supportive unit, we are probably going to have
responsibility for training them, and we are certainly going to have to supervise them during the
decontamination procedure because it is a very detailed task, very detailed and it is hard work. Any
even at this level, that unit level, medical platoon level you are going to receive 5 augmentees from

plastic, 6 mil plastic and it is clear. What we have out there now is black, and underneath the
camouflage it really, camouflages very nicely. The purpose behind the plastic is to keep any aerosol
agents from coming down on top of your decontamination area. Obviously if you have over 10 knot

you will not erect that plastic. This is one of the first test, and we do not have a lot photographs or a

Analysis Of The Movie Platoon
The movie Platoon reveals many different things about the nature of warfare in the post–war era.
Platoon shows us what it was like being a soldier during that time. From drug use being so relevant
during that time to cope with stress to soldiers showing ruthlessness in many different scenarios like
the killing of many innocent people, and even betrayal within each other.
The drug abuse during the post–war era was very great and relevant. Soldiers needed a way to
relieve their stress during the war. Thoughts of being with their parents once again would haunt
them. Drugs like marijuana and alcohol were used daily to cope with their daily stress. These drugs
are known to play with your brain which could've caused indecisiveness or bad decisions. The
actions of one could displease another and lead to conflicts. In the movie Platoon, soldiers would
gather in their camps and use these drugs. They would use these drugs because they didn't know if
they would ever go back home and these drugs helped them escape these thoughts. These drugs
could have led to unprofessional behavior and lead to conflicts between their own people. For some
soldiers, drugs have helped them continue to fight the war and for other soldiers, it created a very
toxic environment.
The post–war era was also a very ruthless era. With the killing of many innocent Vietnamese people
to the raping of little girls. The movie Platoon shows us just how little anybody cared about these
innocent people. Since this was the post–war era many soldiers had the fear that some of the
innocent people could have been fighters, so they wouldn't want to take any chances of dying and
murder them before they could make any moves. A scene from Platoon shows when the squad
invaded a village and had all the villagers sit outside. Sergeant Barnes had killed the elderly lady
and then had threatened to kill the man's daughter. Sergeant Elias comes by and sees Sergeant
Barnes with a pistol to a young girls head and stops him immediately, Elias fights Sergeant Barnes
in order to call off the order of killing the whole village. Another scene would be after the squad was
done setting fire to the village, some of the soldiers took little girls to a little spot and were getting

The Real World Consequences Of When Army Leaders Become...
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the real world consequences of when Army leaders become

reoccurrence among the force. Through the example demonstrate the need for Army leaders to
constantly fight against complacency, and the extreme importance that leaders know their soldiers,
and place their soldiers' needs before their own. The scenario discussed was a real incident that took

We were an American COP right in the middle of an Iraqi Army complex. While conducting our left

them, which can hardly be surprising when you understand that they probable had a force that at
best constituted a squad–sized element. I cannot honestly recall if they had anybody pulling any type
of security on the entrance of the COP or not. Once we finally took over the COP, we ensured that
there was a soldier pulling security at the entrance, along with another soldier pulling radio guard in
a Bradley about 25 meters behind his position. After a span of about 2–3 weeks, D Co 1–12 Cav

wasn't long for the company to get settled into the COP and the platoons used to the mission tempo
of daily conducting mounted and dismounted presence patrols, humanitarian aid missions, and
census gathering. For the first few months our AO remained very calm. There was no direct fire

Questioning Strategies to Improve Understanding of Conic...
Introduction I chose to focus on how the use of questioning strategies in a whole class setting
improves student understanding of conic sections because I struggle with using open–ended
questioning. I see how "yes" and "no" questions do not usually cause students to think, since the
answer to the question is often in the question. However, from my own experience as a teacher,
simply asking an open–ended question about a new topic can cause frustration. If the students do not
have any idea of how to answer the question, they simply stare and look confused. Even so, I do
believe that open–ended questions can be very beneficial as an aid to learning if they are asked
properly.

"The question content determines the type of information that a teacher obtains about students'
thinking" (Manouchehri & Lapp, 2003, p.564), and, of course, the purpose of the question must
align with the learning goals. It is important to note that "Small modifications in the questions asked
of students can furnish insights into students' conceptual understanding of the computations and
processes . . ." (Chappell & Thompson, 1999, p.470). For instance, asking why an answer is correct
gives more information about the student's understanding than merely asking what the correct
answer is. Using effective questioning is a skill developed over time and with experience. The more
the teacher practices strategic questioning, the better the teacher will become at this skill. Before
asking a question the educator should consider whether it actually needs to be answered, whether it
will open up discussion, and whether it leads to the learning goals (Inspire, 2011). If it does none of
these, the question does not need to be asked.

Sergeant's First Duty Day With D Squad

intentionally nominating them together because, as individuals, they are outstanding leaders;
however, as a team, they are unstoppable. Their leadership goes above and beyond that of their
peers, together creating a team of deputies that have received respect and attention from the
community.
Sergeant Prindle's first duty day with D Squad was September 8, 2014. That day, our agency

too. When his deputies have personal situations, he contacts them and offers his personal assistance.
Sergeant Prindle conducts himself in a professional manner and his leadership style gains the respect
of his deputies. His uniform is always clean, pressed and well fitted. His command presence is an
example for others to follow. He motivates his deputies by leading from the front, answering calls
for service and conducting traffic stops, while maintaining his administrative duties. He maintains a
healthy lifestyle and encourages his deputies to do the same. He is also an active member of the
SWAT team and encourages his deputies to seek out collateral duties to enhance their law
enforcement career and expand their knowledge. On his off time, Sergeant Prindle is also a leader in
the Air Force Reserve, currently holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Balancing two leadership
roles while maintaining physical fitness and a family is not an easy task, yet, he handles it with ease.

SSG Arroa's squad moved cautiously down the path that the Sergeant had marked to the main gate at
Fort Indiantown Gap. The rest of the first platoon had held back as well as the company to provide
cover for the advancing squad. SSG Arroa had cleared about a hundred yards past the main gain
without any problems. They encountered no resistance, but several booby–traps, which they

remove the barricades, which consisted of everything but the kitchen sink, several cars that had been
pushed into the front of the gate, chairs, benches, large rocks, mounds of dirt, and a couple of desks.
SSG Arroa sent Corporal Reyes to his Platoon Sergeant and told him to send more men to help clear

my intention to break down each book into sections:
The Physical Aesthetic– paying particular attention to the physical attributes that make up the
magazine i.e. the cover, the font, the leading, the paper quality and weight, the use of space and
layout. This should be–at first analyzed void of content in order to have a clear and concise image in
my mind, and in this essay as to what stands out and detracts from the physicality of the piece.
Content– In this section I will examine what the overall content of the magazine says about it as a ...

The only time san–serif font appears in the magazine is on the exterior covers, it brings up a
question of consistency, it becomes visually jarring to go from san–serif to serif throughout. Even if
they had just chosen to make the embolden headers a san–serif it would have brought th exterior
throughout the interior and the magazine as a whole would look uniform. The change in paper
quality for the section of art submissions is jarring, particularly because the glossed pages are so
white versus the eggshell color of the rest of the book. Page 22 is a complete waste of space.
Content
Starting with the 'history of Grub Street' street section, the font is distracting and needlessly
decorative. The 'Staff' section looks like a jumble. I have some problem with the table of contents
just because it doesn't describe the actual way the magazine unfolds but since it's broken down by
genre, its acceptable. Now onto the other content. The first freaking piece, the first one, the piece
that sets the pace and tone for the entire book, or at least it should. This is the piece they chose, The
Main Line. I immediately wonder about the credibility of the writer. It sets a bad taste in my mouth
and admittedly colors my opinion for the rest of the book. The wide range–and I use the term 'wide'
loosely–gives off the feeling that this was possibly the only submissions

(5 Points): What are the primary differences between the GridView, Repeater and ListView
controls? What are some advantages / disadvantages to each? GridView provides features such as:
paging, update and delete, and sorting. Lalso, with GridView, data is displayed as HTML table. The
advnatages arre thta it doesn't need lots of effort to present data in tables. However, it has
disadvnatges. It is complex. It has slow page load. It is not good for Search Engine Optimization.
The default paging can affect the performance when loading large amount of data. It has limitation
in customizing the layout. It does not support inserting and data grouping. With Repeater, the data is
displayed as a table or flow according to the needed HTML table structure. The advanatges are that
no headers, and footers; it is simple to use; t works fast; it is great for data display; it does not have
built in functionality. The disadvnatges are that it has limited features; it needs needs lots of work to

It is similar to asp.net page because it has a user interface page and codes, and both of them can be
created in the same way. It offers easy way to reuse common user interfaces along with asp.net web

As well as, it doesn't contain html and body where they should be in the hosting page. It is good to

B Co 1-12 Cavalry As A Fire Team Leader

  • 1. B Co 1-12 Cavalry As A Fire Team Leader I was assigned to B Co 1–12 Cavalry as a dismounted fire team leader when the 1–12 Cavalry deployed with the rest of 3rd BDE, 1st Cavalry Division in support of Iraqi Freedom in December of 2008. I deployed a few weeks after everyone else due to a death in the family. Once I finally arrived at the coalition outpost (COP) where my company was positioned, I quickly fell in with my platoon as they had already begun their patrolling of our Area of Operations (AO). Our COP was positioned, quite literally, in the middle of nowhere in the Nineveh Province. After a few weeks of patrolling, our platoon was tasked with taking over a COP to the north in the city of Hammam al–Alil, which is about 30 kilometers south of Mosul. We were taking over an area that was, up to that point, the responsibility of a Military Transition Team (MiTT). The COP, COP Scorpion, consisted of a small open area just large enough to park our vehicles, two long rectangular two story buildings that at one time served as a college dormitory, with a small space to the rear of the second building that served as a mechanics bay. Around the complex was a 12–15 feet high stone wall, with one entrance on the COP, with a large metal slab on wheels that was used to secure it. Around the COP was the remains of a college, which had since shut down and was now being used by the Iraqi Army to house a battalion of soldiers. We were an American COP right in the middle of an Iraqi Army complex. While conducting our left ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Research Paper On Conic Sections Conic Sections: the Gateway to the Universe Rationale: The purpose of this exploration is to discuss how conics are used to express figurative paths for both celestial and artificial bodies in the universe. In order to thoroughly express the significance of conics in astronomy and aerospace engineering, I have explored the applications in which conic sections are used to better the understanding of space. This paper will discuss how conic sections are used to determine the path of celestial bodies, the history of how conic sections were used to describe these paths, and use these mechanics in order to launch artificial satellites into the universe. Internal Assessment: Man has accomplished a lot in the little time we have been here. We have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the original qualities of these conics are altered to fit the orbit components. Firstly, in the mathematical world, the foci are located outside of the ellipse, however, in terms of space, the foci are on the inside. This is because the object being orbited, called the primary, must be one of the focal points that the orbiter goes around. The study of the motions of space vehicles and satellites moving under the influence of forces is called orbital mechanics. Orbital mechanics are composed of many factors, which can be expressed through the equation of an ellipse, only called different names (Braeunig). Orbital Elements: Argument of Periapsis: the distance between orbiter and the primary (Braeunig) Inclination: the distance between the orbital plane of the satellite and the equator of its primary (Braeunig) Eccentricity: distance between the foci (Braeunig) Longitude of Ascending Node: the longitude of the celestial body ... • 5. Balinese Cockfight Summary Reading Report #2 Clifford Geertz, "Deep Play: Notes on a Balinese Cockfight" *Answers to Reading Report question are intended to guide your explorations for your essay. Each answer should be a paragraph length (about 5–6 sentences). 1. How is this essay constructed? Describe the parts of the piece (and how many, etc.) Provide brief descriptions of the work that each part is doing and how it goes about doing it. "Deep Play: Notes on the Balinese Cockfight" is divided into eight or nine sections, each with their own distinct style and message. The first section is titled "The Raid" and is told in the style of a narrative. In it, Geertz reflects on his time in Bali with his wife in April of 1958. He reflects on the way the Balinese people treated him; during his first week or so in Bali, Geertz and his wife were treated as though they didn't exist. After witnessing a cockfight and running away just like the Balinese people who also attended, however, Geertz and his wife were treated as though they were Balinese themselves, and were completely accepted into Balinese society. In the second section, "Of Cocks and Men", Geertz reflects on different aspects of Balinese culture and how Balinese men, despite cockfighting being illegal, strongly identify with it and even use the term to refer to different types of men and their personalities. Additionally, Geertz points out that besides cockfighting, the Balinese are strongly against doing anything that resembles an animal, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Charles C. Krulak Operation Absolute Agility 0611: The African sun had just risen above the hills surrounding the sprawling city and sent its already dazzling rays streaming into the dusty alleyway. Corporal Hernandez felt the sun on his face and knew that today would, again, be sweltering. He was a squad leader in 2d Platoon, Lima Company and had, along with his men, spent a sleepless night on the perimeter. For the past week his platoon had provided security to the International Relief Organization (IRO) workers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The movement to the road intersection at CP Charlie was uneventful and took less than ten minutes. The squad had manned the post before and was familiar with the routine. Pre–staged barricades were quickly moved into place to secure the street to vehicular traffic and a triple strand of concertina was strung in order to control pedestrian movement. Corporal Sley and his fire team moved a hundred meters north and established an Observation Post (OP) on the roof of a two–story building that afforded excellent fields of view. Strategic Issues the Association Should Address Essay TO: APSA Council RE: Council Discussion Topic: Organized Sections This overview is designed to help launch a Council small group discussion about journals, and about strategic issues the Association may wish to address. The memo notes salient issues the Association is or will soon face. The themes included here are surely not complete and the goal is for a discussion that helps ferret out or sharpen heretofore unarticulated issues as well as the ones we see now. I. Introduction APSA Organized Sections have been a mainstay of the Association since first formed in the early 1980's. There has not been a comprehensive review of Sections and the ways in which the prominence of Sections has shaped the Association since then, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This increases the total cost of APSA membership commensurately, especially consequential if a member seeks to join multiple sections. We worry this may discourage multiple section membership, diminish opportunity for "cross–fertilization" among fields; and create sticker shock for APSA membership in general. At the same time, there may be potential value for the Association of being aligned with a "bundle" of journal content organized across topical areas – a kind of journal–based analogue to the annual meeting division structure. As a specific matter, APSA has the opportunity help the State Politics and Policy Organized Section purchase its journal from the university press that now owns it, by lending the Section money with payback revenues over 10 years. Assuming the business deal made sense, would such a step make sense from the standpoint of an Association–wide journals policy. APSA might seek to bring Section journals more under the Association umbrella itself and applying journal guidelines, unbundling subscriptions from Section membership (while leaving editorial control with the Sections.) Although this seems like just a look on a mans life, there are many themes that tie us in. Hikaru uses many literary elements to develop those themes. Four of those elements are complication, false assumptions, flashbacks, and foreshadowing. Although there are many key themes, the two I noticed the most were the psychological effects of war and family complications due to the loss of a loved–one. Complications are defined as obstacles that increase tension. In the beginning of the book, the complications would be when Manase is faced with his memories of the time he was in the cave ... Flashbacks, foreshadowing, false assumptions, and complications are the elements I found most apparent in this book. They aren't the only elements though, he does have more, like imagery and personification through the symbols of the book. • 19. Analysis Of The Book ' Cordelia Achen ' The Role of the Cone in Book One Cordelia Achen As the title suggests, Apollonius' Conics deals with the various conic sections, shapes that arise when one cuts the cone in different ways. However, we leave the cone rather quickly in our foray into the conic sections, exploring the parabola, hyperbola, circle, and ellipse as they exist outside the cone and the various line relationships that comprise them. After we find the diameter for these sections, the cone makes a sudden reappearance as we construct the conic sections from given lines and angles. Why do we return to the cone? Why leave it in the first place? What the cone gives in book one of Apollonius is the curved line for each of the shapes. Its absence allows us to see more relationships between the conic sections, and its reappearance demonstrates how much farther we have to go before truly understanding curvature. Each of the conic sections are defined by curve, and this curve is given to them by the way they are cut from the cone. The circle, for instance, found in any section cut parallel to the base, has a completely regular curve and is bound wholly within the cone. Thus the line joins in on itself. The parabola, however, which is found in any section parallel to one side of the axial triangle or when the diameter meets the axial triangle before the vertex, has a less regular curve because it follows a different part of the conic section. The parabola also never meets itself because it is not bound by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Project #2 Project #2 – Conic Sections Conic sections are the various gemetric figures created by the interection of a plane. They are among the oldest curves in history and is one of the oldest area of study for mathmaticians. conics were discovered by Menaechmus (c. 375 – 325 BC), a Greek pupil of Plato and Exodus. He was trying to solve the famous problem duplicating a cube. Euclid studied them and Appollonius reinforced and expanded previous results of conics into a book he named Conic Sections. It is a series of eight books with 487 propositions. He applied his findings to the study of planetary motion and it was used to advance the development of Greek astronomy. It is because of Appollonius that the name ellipse, parabola, and hyperbole were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some cases, the circle is listed as a fourth conic. A circle is really a unique ellipse. Conics have very unique features. For instance curves can also be defined using a straight line, the directrix, and a point called the focus. If you measure the distance from the focus to a point on the curve, and perpendicularly from the directrix to that point. The two distances will always be the same ratio for an ellipse the ratio is less than 1, for a parabola the ratio is 1, and for a hyperbola the ratio is greater than 1. These ratios are known as the eccentricity, so we can say that any conic section is all points whose distance to the focus is equal to the eccentricity times the distance to the directrix. A circle has an eccentricity of zero, an ellipse has an eccentricity between 0 and 1, a parabola has an eccentricity of 1, and a hyperbola has an eccentricity greater than 1. Ellipse is known by its focal definition: it's a locus of all points P in the plane the sum of whose distances from two fixed points F1 and F2, the foci, has a constant value. The Belgian mathematician G. P. Dandelin in 1822 gave a beautiful proof of a conic section is a finite shape then it is always an ellipse. First imagine a huge sphere S1 inside a cone. Let the sphere be so big as to not touch the cutting plane. Assume it touches the cone over the circle k1. Shrink the sphere S1 (suck it into the cone) until it touches the plane at point F1. ... The aspect of drawing the design on a piece of paper posed no limitations, these began to start when technology was in use. Creating a domain for the circle on geogebra was beyond my capabilities. This did not dramatically affect my design but it would improve the overall atheistic of the piece. Other limitations included the inability to create curved edges with ease (for example the nose). • 25. The Use of and Elipse to Help Pool Player Architecture, games, astronomy and medicine have something in common, even if it's not obvious at first sight. What connects these different areas is called Conic Sections. Where do they come from? Conic Sections are figures formed by the intersection of a plane and a right circular cone. A conic section may be a circle, an ellipse, a parabola, or a hyperbola . They were first discovered by a Greek mathematician, Menaechmus. He wanted to come up with a model that showed all three different conic sections. With the help of Appollonius, they came up with the "Double Napped Cone", which clearly shows all three different shapes. In this project, I'm going to study and analyze specifically the ellipse. What is an ellipse? It's the set of points on a plane whose sum of the distance of two fixed points is constant . The main parts on an ellipse are: center, foci and vertices. The focus is the most important and the most used in real life. The foci determine the shape of the ellipse, therefore the vertices, endpoints, major axis and minor axis. The ellipse is found mostly in architecture and astronomy. For example, in London, the St. Paul Cathedral has an elliptical form. Studies have proven that if two people stand at the two foci, and one of them whispers, the other guy can hear it clearly. In astronomy, lots of people confuse ellipse with eclipse; THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS! The ellipse is very useful to astronomers because it defines the distance between the sun ... Personification is heavily used to transform the tree and the flower from plants to people the narrator wants to become, and they are also used to emphasize the traits the narrator desires. The tree is fruit–bearing, stable, and peaceful. The narrator is upset that she lacks the tree's ability to bear fruit, and the fruit represents achievement, and the lack of fruit represents the narrator's discomfort at lacking achievement. Plath writes, "Sucking up minerals and motherly love / So that each March I may gleam into leaf," (l.3; l.4) not only showing the emphasis personification creates, but the usage of the word "I" shows how the narrator is constantly wishing to be the tree ... Periods are used to end thoughts, while commas at the end are used to indicate slight change in the thought. Using periods as dividers, the poem is divided into seven sections, all different but reinforce the ideas of insecurity, desire, isolation, and neglect. The first section, which is only line one, explains the narrator's rejection of herself, which easily transitions to sections two and three. These two sections describe what she wants to be, first with the narrator becoming them, and then her comparing herself to them. Sections two and three explain the effect others have on insecurity because they represent the idealized version of her. Section four details her isolation, neglect, and invisibility to them. The setting of night, which represents darkness, offers a half–baked explanation to the narrator's invisibility, however, the fact there is starlight shows that the trees and flowers are purposefully ignoring her. With this invisibility, her feelings snowball into neglect and isolation. Section five is similar to sections two and three; it is a repeat of her comparison to the trees and flowers. Section six is a reinforcement of her insecurities, and her out of placeness. Section seven is a detailed continuation of six, but the ending of section seven represents her insecurities and her neglect. Word pairings such as "useful... finally" (l.19) and "touch me for one...have time for me" (l.20) clearly demonstrate her hope that if she changes, she will be accepted by them. Plath's usage of end punctuation creates an easy flowing cycle of insecurity; the insecurity is made known, the justification behind it is shown; it is then reiterated; and the narrator finally finds peace in the fantasy of being like the trees and the flowers. Instead, we decided to take the idea of focusing on the evaluation tools and develop an evaluation how–to of Rachel's challenge. Our goal was to have a manual to present to UVMC and allow them to continue the evaluation further with our guided manual. During our evaluation of Rachel's Challenge, it became a concern to us that this program wasn't really a bullying prevention program, but more a program focused on character building. After a lack of communication between the UVMC and Rachel's Challenge connections we decided to shift our focus. We still wanted our final product to be a manual, but decided to focus on presenting it to a broader audience. What we went forward with was developing a how–to manual for evaluating an anti–bullying program. As I had already done some background research, getting started went smoothly. They do not provide for the needs of residents, resulting in many of the problems these low–income housing projects face today. The Fundamental Principle Of Medical Practice It is a fundamental principle in medical law that before treating a competent patient a medical practitioner must first get their patient's consent. Otherwise, they risk being charged with battery or medical negligence. However, the consent is not considered effective unless the patient is competent, meaning that they are able to make a decision for themselves. It is presumed that this is the case unless there is evidence that they are not. Once they have made their informed choice, there must be complete acceptance of it with no effort made to dissuade them from it. In the discussion, I will be analyzing each part of the guide that I felt needed to be revised. Discussion One of the first things that will stick out from the guide is the color scheme chosen for both the text and background, blue and green text on a beige background respectively. Since this is supposed to be an academic resource for engineering students, I felt it was most appropriate to have a white background with black text, thus helping to bolster the professionalism of the document. When I first opened the document, I felt as if it was very distracting and possibly may have been written for those in high school, but upon further inspection, I discovered that this was written for students at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Unless this is a cultural difference of some kind, I feel as if the author merely wanted to attract readers to use the guide. Even after fixing the color scheme, it was still very hard to navigate the document. In order to fix the issue of navigability, I changed each of the primary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the students are coming in, they borrow calculators and get started on their warm–up. For their warm– up they need to draw the line of symmetry for two figures: a half circle and a right–pointing arrow. Mrs. Hopely sets the timer for two minutes and the teachers walk around and check answers. The students are wired today. During the warm–up, they are screaming and talking. One students is complaining about needing to borrow a pencil. When the timer goes off, the teachers collect their warm–ups and tell them to get out their notebook to take notes. Today they are doing lessons 10.1–10.2: Quadratic Functions. The objective for this lesson is to be able to find the axis of symmetry and the vertex of a quadratic function. A quadratic function is a nonlinear function that can be written in standard form: y=ax2+bx+c where a≠0. Quadratic functions have a u–shaped graph called a parabola. The students complain about taking notes, but Mrs. Hopley explains that this section, along with the chapter 10 test, are easy if you pay attention. She goes on to explain that the most basic quadratic function is y=x2. She also puts the graph on the board, to illustrate to the students how the axis of symmetry and the vertex relate to that parabola. The axis of symmetry is a line that passes through the vertex and divers the parabola in half. The vertex is the lowest or highest point of the parabola. Today, they are only going to be finding the vertex and the Axis of Symmetry (AOS). Then tomorrow, they are going to learn how to graph parabolas. From these two leadership principles, everything else will fall into place." These are the words that have ended all of my counseling sheets with since I began writing them as a Corporal and will continue to do as long as I counsel Marines. I was brought up in the Marine Corps with this philosophy and have adopted it as my own. I have never heard for this topic before, but then our math teacher presented us mathematic web page and taxicab geometry was one of the topics discussed there. I looked at the topic before and it encounter problems, which seemed interesting to explore. Before going into the main subject this essay will be looking at various aspects of homelessness which includes the background history, the major causes of homelessness, sections of our community that are likely to become homeless and social construction of homelessness. Furthermore, I will also be looking at government policies, act of parliament as well as debates from different commentators on homelessness. From my understanding there are people who make it a point to blame those who are homeless however, not all homeless people choose or wanted to be homeless. Some people become homeless through no fault of their own as society lead us to believe. People could become homeless due to various reasons, which includes loss of job, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nonetheless, indications from my study suggest that majority of homeless people want to work and get back to normality but as in most cases, lack of adequate support meant that homeless people have no accommodation of their own to return to after work and as a result, they end up sleeping on the street. This kind of behaviour is seen as a deviant act in the society because, it does not fit in with society's norms and values. Society's perception of the homeless is that they are lazy and generally, view them as irresponsible drug users. Perhaps, on the down side society fell to recognise the fact that many homeless people suffers from illness which prevented them from working. In addition to the above, there may be many other reasons such as family break–up, loss of job, drug misuse sexual abuse, physical or emotional abuse. To support this argument Walsh, et al (2000) emphasised that the causes of homelessness could be viewed in two ways. This could be due to personal circumstances of the homeless person, such as drug misuse, alcohol problems, institutional background, unemployment, globalisation and mental illness. The second approach is to examine the wider social or structural factors which could be explain like those personal circumstances. • 64. Analysis Of The Movie Platoon The movie Platoon reveals many different things about the nature of warfare in the post–war era. Platoon shows us what it was like being a soldier during that time. From drug use being so relevant during that time to cope with stress to soldiers showing ruthlessness in many different scenarios like the killing of many innocent people, and even betrayal within each other. The drug abuse during the post–war era was very great and relevant. Soldiers needed a way to relieve their stress during the war. Thoughts of being with their parents once again would haunt them. Drugs like marijuana and alcohol were used daily to cope with their daily stress. These drugs are known to play with your brain which could've caused indecisiveness or bad decisions. The actions of one could displease another and lead to conflicts. In the movie Platoon, soldiers would gather in their camps and use these drugs. They would use these drugs because they didn't know if they would ever go back home and these drugs helped them escape these thoughts. These drugs could have led to unprofessional behavior and lead to conflicts between their own people. For some soldiers, drugs have helped them continue to fight the war and for other soldiers, it created a very toxic environment. The post–war era was also a very ruthless era. With the killing of many innocent Vietnamese people to the raping of little girls. The movie Platoon shows us just how little anybody cared about these innocent people. Since this was the post–war era many soldiers had the fear that some of the innocent people could have been fighters, so they wouldn't want to take any chances of dying and murder them before they could make any moves. A scene from Platoon shows when the squad invaded a village and had all the villagers sit outside. Sergeant Barnes had killed the elderly lady and then had threatened to kill the man's daughter. Sergeant Elias comes by and sees Sergeant Barnes with a pistol to a young girls head and stops him immediately, Elias fights Sergeant Barnes in order to call off the order of killing the whole village. I cannot honestly recall if they had anybody pulling any type of security on the entrance of the COP or not. Introduction I chose to focus on how the use of questioning strategies in a whole class setting improves student understanding of conic sections because I struggle with using open–ended questioning. I see how "yes" and "no" questions do not usually cause students to think, since the answer to the question is often in the question. However, from my own experience as a teacher, simply asking an open–ended question about a new topic can cause frustration. If the students do not have any idea of how to answer the question, they simply stare and look confused. Even so, I do believe that open–ended questions can be very beneficial as an aid to learning if they are asked properly. Research Question How does the use of questioning strategies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "The question content determines the type of information that a teacher obtains about students' thinking" (Manouchehri & Lapp, 2003, p.564), and, of course, the purpose of the question must align with the learning goals. It is important to note that "Small modifications in the questions asked of students can furnish insights into students' conceptual understanding of the computations and processes . . ." (Chappell & Thompson, 1999, p.470). For instance, asking why an answer is correct gives more information about the student's understanding than merely asking what the correct answer is. Using effective questioning is a skill developed over time and with experience. The more the teacher practices strategic questioning, the better the teacher will become at this skill. Before asking a question the educator should consider whether it actually needs to be answered, whether it will open up discussion, and whether it leads to the learning goals (Inspire, 2011). If it does none of these, the question does not need to be asked. Research Method This class was composed of 20 male and 8 female students. The ethnicities included Anglo, Latino, Black, and Asian.
