A Research On Biomedical Engineering
Ever since I was a toddler, I've demonstrated my desire to help others. If there was a fellow toddler crying, I would share my toys in an attempt to
calm them down. As I grew up, my desire to help others expanded from sharing toys to tutoring other students or providing service to the surrounding
community. By the time college applications rolled around, I had also developed a love of science, in addition to my desire to be helpful. I found
myself scanning the list majors that different colleges had to offer, eventually stumbling upon biomedicalengineering. Initially, I knew very little about
the field, assuming they mostly worked with prosthetics. However, as I did more research into the major, I learned biomedical engineers create
devices beyond prosthetics, such as machines to replace a working heart or more efficient medical equipment. This major also allowed for the
flexibility of attending medical school, another career aspiration I have had since I was little. So without hesitation, I was able to put biomedical
engineering as my intended major on my college applications. It was not until I came to the University of Michigan that my confidence in my major
began to waver. I asked myself, "Do I really know what biomedical engineers do? What concentration should I pursue if I also hope to attend medical

Planning and research is important when trying to succeed in any endeavor. A career goal is no different. My goal is to become a biomedical
engineer because it is a diverse subject with interdisciplinary opportunities, and it can be extremely helpful to other individuals with various ailments.

Biomedical Science Personal Statement
I would like to study biomedical science, because not only is it a very exciting ever changing area that is relevant on a daily basis to humans, I am
very keen to be challenged and inspired and involved in the latest advances in medical research.
With my love of science in mind, I decided to study for the Level 3 BTEC in Applied Science at college. Studying has helped me make a
transformation from a youth to a young adult; I have taught myself to be disciplined which I feel can be reflected in the grades I have achieved.
Studying for my BTEC has given me the theoretical knowledge in Biology and Chemistry which is needed as a Biomedical Scientist whilst some

I have a keen interest in Microbiology, Human Physiology, Genetics and Haematology and their applications to human health. As a BTEC student, I
have been trained to use many complex apparatus which is a key skill as a Biomedical Scientist. I have also developed other skills such as attention
to detail, analytical skills and interpretational skills. During my first year of my Extended Diploma, I studied the unit "Physiology of Human Body
Systems" which interests me as it explores how the complex human body works and how the body systems simultaneously work together. I am also
studying a unit this year called "Biochemistry and
Biochemical Techniques" which interests me because the chemical aspects of how our body works on a molecular scale amazes me. In addition to this,
I am studying other biological and chemical units alongside mathematical units.
As a future Biomedical Scientist, I am eagerly looking for work experience with the help of my
Biology tutor. Although I understand I will not be directly involved in tasks, I feel it will help me further develop my team working skills and
understanding of a multi–disciplinary team.
For over a year now I have had a part time job as a kitchen porter; I feel that this helps

Biomedical science is passionate and constantly developing area and hence a person in this career can enjoy a vast number of career opportunities
like in specialist laboratory work, research and education as well as they can serve the human society. I Being a curious person having some little
knowledge about biology have always been interested in human body and always wanted to know how the complex mechanism of human body
works to enable an individual function properly from simple cells combining together to form tissues, organs and then entire human body . It's truly a

Moreover, the students are judged on the basis of their final examinations and there are very least number of practicals so even after studying the
whole course, students don't have any practical knowledge about the subject. I also check the course available in an other developed country like
Canada's universities like University of Calgary and Carleton University which are top universities for studying biomedical science in Canada. but i
find that this undergraduate degree takes 4 years to complete whereas in Australia one can complete their bachelor's degree in 3 years which we can
save a whole year fees while studying in Australia. And unemployment rate is relatively low in australia as compared to canada and other countries

Henrietta Lacks was a strong African–American woman, who died because of cancer without knowing that her cancer cells were immortal and very useful for medical research. Her family lived a poverty life without health care, when her cell was commercialized all around the world. However, when she came back to hospital for a check–up, the medical team found out that her body was already taken over by tumor. Her diaphragm, bladder, and lungs was a home for thecancer cells. The worst thing was her kidney could not filter toxins in her body; it made her poisoned her own body. She died on October 4, 1951. HeLa has been used in medical research after Henrietta's death. However, Henrietta's family did not know that her cell was taken and used that way. "Her cells were part of research into the genes that cause cancer and those that suppress it; they helped develop drugs for treating herpes, leukemia, influenza, hemophilia, and Parkinson's disease" (Skloot 22). HeLa was commercialized but Henrietta's family lived in poverty without any health care. Henrietta's family has not received any money, while people gained profit from selling HeLa. Henrietta's children received only a little education and some of them had health issue.
