Narrative art tells a story through the use of images that spark imagination, evoke emotions, and
capture universal cultural truths and aspirations. Winslow Homer did just that in his most famous
painting, "The Gulf Stream", from 1899. The elements of art and principles of design are
impeccably utilized by Homer in this painting and arouse all types of feelings and emotions within
the viewer. I, myself, was struck with a number of emotions, mostly of sadness and fear for the man,

You respond differently when you can empathize with the characters. The man in the boat
immediately makes me feel sad for him, and fearful of what will happen; although his fate seems to
be pretty obvious. If I put myself in his shoes, I would be terrified. However, I can also understand
his submissive attitude; whatever will be, will be. There is nothing he can do so he might as well sit
back and enjoy the ride, so to speak. The boat on the horizon is just a small glimmer of hope, but I

super heated atmosphere. Like for approaching a gas meter fire, or a car fire where the heat can

I Am A Time Spent Writing
With my headphones positioned uncomfortably in my ears, I sat slumped against my headboard. The
inelegant curving of the wood dug into my shoulders, I didn 't pay attention to the discomfort of the
plastic pressing into my ears or the misshapen wood digging into my skin as my mind trailed off
with a stream of words that filled cracks and gaps like water in a dry river bed. The urge to write
was tugging at the edges of my mind, but despondency precluded me from putting pen to paper.

Going and taking micro adventures to the mountains which were fairly close to my house was a bit
of a semi–common thing, however going with only friends of mine was a thing I didn't do at all.
When the suggestion to go up by my friend Alex was made, Jesse and I quickly agreed to go along
with this plan. We then proceeded to make our way to the mountain and as we were driving up I
decided to chime in and make a suggestion, saying "We should climb up from the base of the
waterfall" everybody else quickly agreed since that seemed to be a nice little leisure activity for a
group of teenagers. With the weather slowly warming melting the snow on the mountains causing
water flow the scenery was just gorgeous, with many rocks having a bright reflective look caused by
the sun and water interacting. This scenery was just perfect for a climb up the fall. As we climbed
we all took notice of just how pretty the mountain was. Seeing trees, rocks, water spiders, and many
other things we don't see every single day. As we continued up the mountain we eventually got this
amazing area with some more reflective brown gorgeous rocks that were similar to a bunch of tiny
steps. With all the water running down the rocks my dark brown Sperry's I decided to wear started to
show why they were called "boat shoes" this is because they were quite good at sticking to surfaces
without slipping. Even though highly unorthodox with my shoes for some reason they seemed to
work quite well except for coming untied more times than I would have enjoyed. As we continued to
climb we took a few group pictures as well as making a fair amount of jokes to help ease our minds
off of the physical work we were putting into climbing up this mountain. After we climbed up for
about fifteen minutes much of the rocks that had places for our feet to go into and cradle providing
full support were gone and being left with solely smooth rocks that if you wanted you could slide
down with relative ease. So the rate at which we were scaling these rocks had to slow, however not

4.2 Objectives
The purpose of modeling the fate and transport of pollutants in surface water is for a better
understanding of the relationship between pollutant loads during rainfall events and to be able to
simulate and make predictions of future water quality conditions. By connecting stream flow rates
model to pollutant loads, the relationship between pollutant transport and water quality can be
determined. For this research, models of the fate and transport of the chloride and sulfate in Leon
River was constructed.
4.3 Conceptual Model
The conceptual model for this research is a network model which models the rate of flow of
pollutant through a connected network of points in surface water. The water quality monitoring
stations represent such points and serve as containers. From analysis of the water quality monitoring
measurements of pollutants at each chosen station, it is observed that the concentration levels of
pollutants tend to be high where it has not rained for a long time compared to where it rained the
previous day or few days ago. This then can be interpreted to mean that the concentration of
pollutant in surface water is proportional to the amount of water in the surface water body. Drought
condition will concentrate the pollutants, while on the other hand rain events help to dilute the
pollutes because of increase of water and also contribute to the flow of the pollutant from one point
to the other

Abstract: In order to better understand cultural eutrophication a lab was performed on aquatic
systems and the concentration of nutrients in those systems. The lab was analyzed once a week for a
total time of two weeks. After the two weeks, a trend (treatments with higher concentrations of
fertilizer had a higher cell count and lower pH) was discovered and noted the results.

Within the last couple of month there has been a mere excessive amount of water being polluted and
having toxic waste carelessly dumped. The Animas River of Colorado and flowing through Utah,
New Mexico, and high Northern Part of Arizona. But it's not just the that, there are plenty of lakes
and rivers that are being contaminated with toxic waste all the time. And people seem to be very
closed and okay with the fact their water sources are dirty.

well as the water very vital. But due to the government and the EPA granting permission for the gold

Day 1: I awoke covered in sand with the sun beating down on my face. Looking into the vast ocean
upon me I knew I had survived the plane crash, but how could I have ended up on this mysterious
island? I sat there for a moment trying to piece together what had occurred. It was June 17, 1979 and
I was on a plane heading to Bosnia for a mission trip when the plane encountered engine problems.
There were several loud booms coming from the cockpit when suddenly a huge explosion rips

In Carver's short story, "So Much Water So Close to Home," three men go to Naches River for a
fishing trip and encounter a dead young woman in the river. Aware that the corpse is in the river,

illustrates the story through the eyes of Claire, the wife of the fisher. Carver depicts the differences
in male and female roles of a marriage and their psychological similarities, associated with why

temperature sensor you can add another sensor or probe or take out and replace the sensor. Grabbing

and lower sea level. Florida's east coast, encompassed by barrier islands, is affected by subtropical

part of it is situated on a floodplain.
What are floodplains?
Floodplains are landscapes that are formed when running water, often in streams and rivers,
transports eroded rock and other similar materials from their banks to a lower part of the Earth's
surface. At these lower parts, the flow of water slows down, and the rock and materials that the
water is carrying are dropped.
This leads to the creation of deposital landforms. One of these landforms is the floodplain.
Floodplains are nearly flat, hence the "plains" part of their name. The "flood" part, on the other
hand, should be pretty obvious – these floodplains are subject to periodic flooding.
What happens on floodplains?
Flooding occurs when water overflows from a stream or river. When the water levels become too
high, the water flows out of the stream channel and over the stream banks, submerging the adjacent

Oceans are huge components of the climate system. The big cause for most climate change on Earth
is the atmosphere and the oceans are an essential factor. Even though they do not respond to the
climate changes they do have a role in the climate system. Earth is a big planet with at least 71
percent covered with water and 96.5 percent is located in the Earth's oceans. There is an extreme
interaction between the atmosphere, ocean and ice. In the past, ocean circulation has strongly
impacted the climate sway of ice ages and oscillations of the circulations could have been the
subsequent cause of some climate variations.
Oceans absorb most of the sun's radiation compared to the atmosphere and land surface. Movement
of the heat through local and global ocean currents affect the regulation of weather and temperature
conditions. Understanding the essentials of the ocean 's circulation has advanced during the past
decades and scientist are able to model and find new data on past climates. Oceans move an
extensive amount of heat across the planet in the same amount as the atmosphere. The difference is
the oceans are confined by land masses so its heat is channeled into specific regions. Ocean currents
are located at the surface and 300 meters deep below the water. Currents are powered by wind, tides,
the Earth 's circulations, the sun (solar energy) and water density. These characteristics affect the

Rivers and estuaries have been useful to human beings more than just as a water source. They have
been the centre of interest of frontier settlement, which leads to more human activities and wastes,
which leads to dumping rubbish into the most convenient place – the waterways. What becomes a
problem is that more and more toxic chemicals are being dumped to a point that the waterways
could no longer filter it. One of the problems that is becoming a global crisis is eutrophication.
Therefore, this paper will be talking about the estuarine pollution, specifically on eutrophication,
starting with the source and type of the pollutants, how it affects the estuaries and the management
of the pollution.
Eutrophication happens as the water ecosystem becomes more productive due to increasing primary
productivity in the estuary. This happens because of the excessive nutrient enrichment which will
cause frequent cyanobacteria blooms (Wang and Wang, 2009). The excess nutrients could come
from different sources, including stormwater drainage, waste discharges from industrial areas, and
runoffs from agricultural farm. According to United States Environmental Protection Agency, the
stormwater can pick up debris and chemicals straight from the streets into the rivers and estuaries.
Consequently, it also drags the excess nutrients when it is discharged from the storm sewer system.

I found it interesting because its contribution to its local community is so large that I found it
upsetting that it was among the most polluted in the country. In my opinion, anything that important
to a local society deserves to be kept in good shape for others to use and for animals in the
environment to benefit from. Another reason I chose this river was because it's polluted to such a
