2011 Vancouver Riot Analysis
It was the hockey playoffs for the Stanley Cup, Vancouver Canucks against the Boston Bruins.
Canada in general is known for their hockey, even the people that are not die–hard fans got swept
into the action and excitement. Almost 15000 people watched on a live screen in Downtown,
Vancouver. After the lost of the game to the Bruins, hundreds of people started the 2011 Vancouver
Riot. There were many perspectives of the Riot offered during the CAP lecture. A major theme was
the sense of unity, before and after the riot. Dr. Lam introduced a psychological aspect of the riot,
and the underlying motivation behind the riot. The idea of deindividuation was a prominent reason
for the "mob mentality". People begin to follow the majority of the group

2011 Fukushima Earthquake
On Friday, 11 March 2011, a 9.1 magnitude earthquake/nuclear disaster shook Fukushima city at the
north–eastern coast of Hionshu island near the town Okuma. The earthquake caused a tsunami with
30–foot waves that damaged several nuclear reactors in the area, leaving nearly 20,000 deaths and
2,500 missing caused by the initial earthquake and tsunami and by post–disaster health conditions.
(CNN, 2017)
The geological cause of the earthquake was the collision of two plates which caused a destructive
earthquake and a tsunami. The 2011 earthquake struck Japan, along a subduction zone where two of
Earth's tectonic plates collide, one plate sliding beneath another into the mantle. Energy is built
through the plates sticking together, releasing the earthquakes. East of Japan, the Pacific plate dives
beneath the North American plate. (LIVE SCIENCE, 2017) Japan is located in an area which is
prone to earthquakes, being a seismically active nation. This is because it is situated on the ... Show

The effect of the earthquake on the lithosphere was that majority of the infrastructure was damaged
and left the recovery for physical damage, largely relying on the availability of funds and resources.
Closely related to physical damage is the environment impact, the earthquake/nuclear disaster's
effect on the biosphere. The damage to the Nuclear power plant Fukushima, resulted radiation
contamination to spread across the Pacific. The ocean's surface transported radioactive debris and
other materials. This nuclear disaster destroyed many areas around it, making them inhabitable for a
long time. (My Production Operations Management Blog, 2014) The hydrosphere was heavily
impacted by the Fukushima earthquake/nuclear disaster though modified groundwater flow from
springs by causing expansion and contraction of aquifer from which spring flows. Earthquake faults
may also result in offset stream channels and sag

The Film A Separation ( 2011 ) Essay
The film A Separation (2011) is a story that goes more in depth than the overall story between a
father and mother, and their child throughout the struggles of divorce in Iran. It covers themes such
as one's life and hopes, and social, economic, and political misfortune. In the story, Nader and Simin
dispute over living abroad. Simin prefers to leave the country to pursue a better future for herself
and her family. Nader refuses to leave the country in order for him to have the ability to take care of
his father that is plagued with Alzheimer's disease, which requires a vast amount of Nader's time.
Simin is determined to create her future and leave the country, and will leave by any means,
including divorce from her husband. Although they still love each other, Simin does give great effort
to get a divorce, but in Iran she faces difficulties. The movie then goes on to portray these
difficulties revolving around Nader and Simin's divorce. To help with time, an assistant, Razieh, is
hired to help take care of Nader's father. There are a number of lies and manipulations that ensue
throughout the movie, including the pregnancy of Razieh and her ability to work, as well as her
husband not even knowing about her working in the first place. Unfortunately, a violent turn of
events ensues, and the situation becomes very serious. Their daughter, Termeh, is caught in the
middle of all of this, and the final decision comes down to what she wishes for her future. Simin

Cameron's Speech On The 2011 Riots
In his speech on the riots, Cameron discounted social conditions such as poverty and unemployment
as reasons for the 2011 riots, and focussed instead on criminality and morality '(Andrews, G. 2014).
This essay will compare and contrast this conservative view of the riots with the radical view. A riot
is an occasion involving violence directed at property, persons or authority. The current
understanding of the term riot dates back to the fourteenth century, when it began to suggest
violence and disorder among the population. By the eighteenth–century violence and disorder was
on the rise in England, which resulted in Parliament passing the Riot Act of 1715. Conservatism is
characterised for their resistant to change, although when it is necessary, ... Show more content on

The discussion on BBC News night highlighted the differences in the conservative and radical views
on the riots. Ian Kinsella described his concern at how the rioters would be controlled going
forward. He described how he pleaded with the rioters to stop, however was chased off and told
'You're insured mate, you'll be ok!'. Opposite Ian Kinsella was Cody Lachey, a proud mancunion
who admitted to dressing inconspicuously to partake in the looting. Cody Lachey had a change of
heart and although he fully supported the looters, he decided against looting. Kirsty the BBC news
reporter pointed out that Cody Lachey had served in the military overseas in Afghanistan and
Bosnia, he also worked as a security guard for large retailers, she questioned why he doesn't turn the
looters in? Cody's response 'Because I understand...We live in an impoverished society where people
do what they have to do to feed their families, and that's the life we're living.'' (The Open University,
2017). Cody's response is one shared with a high percentage of the rioters, they blamed the crushing
effect of poverty, parents who have to work two or three jobs to make ends meet, parents who have
no time for their children, no childcare, increase intuition fees, closure of youth services and
scrapping of education maintenance and lack of respect from the police. It is believed 59% of those
arrested for rioting were unemployed and conceded their involvement in looting was simply down to
opportunism, saying that a perceived suspension of normal rules presented them with the
opportunity to acquire goods and luxury items they could not ordinarily afford. (Rusbridger, A.
2017). Martin Luther King once defined rioting as the language of the unheard. This was a radical's
view expressed by a youth worker shortly after the 2011

Women Development Policy 2011
1. Introduction
Half of the populations of our country are women. So women development is the precondition of
national development. There should have equal opportunity and equal rights for women to ensure
national development. In our constitution through several articles the equal rights and opportunity of
both men and women have been established. It is a harsh reality that it needed 40 long years after its
independence to come up with a policy guideline to ensure the rights of its women. The women
development policy has created a great scope for the advancement of women empowerment. The
national women development policy has ensured women's rights in formulation and implementation
of economic policies.

Bangladesh has to submit report to UN every four years. The last sixth and seventh periodic report
was placed to UN in 2009 and it was presented in CEDAW committee in 25th January, 2011.
6. Human rights of women and constitution
The constitution of People's Republic of Bangladesh was introduced in 1972. According to article 28
(1), 'The State shall not discriminate against any citizen on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex
or place of birth.' In the article 28 (2), "Women shall have equal rights with men in all shares of the
state and of public life." In the article 29 (1) it has said that, 'there shall be equality of opportunity
for all citizens in respect of employment or office in the service of the republic.' According to
article: 65 (3) of our constitution, "there shall be reserved forty–five seats exclusively for women
members" and in the article 9, women participation has been ensured in the local government
institutions.
7. Present condition of women
Women have to equally participate in education, training, science and technology to ensure their
economic empowerment. Women have remarkable achievements during the last 100 years. They are
playing significant role in medical, training, administration, politics and decision making process.
Their participation in different challenging professions such as– doctor, engineer, scientist, police,

Lockheed Martin Case 2011
Executive Summary
Lockheed Martin is a leading security and defense company based in Bethesda, MD with operations
that span the globe. Lockheed Martin experienced a positive turnaround under new CEO Robert
Stevens' leadership, and is now entrenched as a leading competitor in the Aerospace and Defense
(A&D) industry. They maintain an extensive business portfolio and continue to increase
shareholder value. However, recent issues with contract mismanagement and cost overruns
involving the government F–35 program leave a negative outlook on their operations. They also face
increasing pressure to acquire and retain key employees from a diminishing talent pool. Government
budget cuts threaten to hurt revenues, thus making it important for ... Show more content on

Efficient buildings, where companies such as Lockheed Martin have converted their buildings to be
efficient in saving energy, which is a way to cut costs in a declining economic environment,
emphasize stewardship of the environment. Europe has enacted a "Clean Sky" initiative, which is a
large research project with the goal of providing a step in environmentally friendly air transport
technology.
Technology is an important facet in the industry, and therefore has a high emphasis. Cutting edge
technology has driven rising costs for consumers. This also causes R&D spending to be fairly
high. Because of this, Defense companies often seek to find commercial use for new technology.
Forecasted Defense trends indicate industry adjustment to reduced government defense spending.
Because companies have overlooked operational efficiency and relied heavily on government
spending, efficiency will now become a focus with decreased spending. Companies will also attempt
to explore new markets, such as Lockheed Martin's secured contract with Israel for future purchase
of F–35's, as well as entering into related markets to diversify revenues. Increased competition is
expected due to consolidations among smaller companies in an effort to become more competitive

Ratigan Case Summary
Background of the Case:
This case is about Rev. Shawn F. Ratigan, a 47–year old catholic priest at Kansas City–St. Joseph
diocesan. He was convicted of making child pornography and was arrested on May 2011 and was
imprisoned for 50 years in prison by Kansas City federal judge.
Ratigan's Early Life:
Records says that Ratigan has graduated from Conception Seminary College in Missouri in 2000.
He was worried about his graduation because he joined college after 12 years of completing his high
school and later joined the conception board and then graduated from theological studies at

report. Murphy has contacted the legal counsel outside the Diocese and Kansas City police for an
opinion on photographs that were found on Ratigan laptop and wanted to know whether those
images constituted child pornography. The counsel opinion was that the images were not eligible to
be considered as pornographic and the police officer Rick Smith who looked into the issue stated in
his report that, he was informed by Murphy that there was only one nude photograph of a child and
that to it belonged to Ratigan's family member which was not a sexual pose. But Murphy denied his
statement and said he doesn't recall saying something like that to the officer.
On December 17, 2010, Ratigan did not report to the church and so the Officials of the church got
worried and reported to police. Police found him unconscious in his garage while his motorcycle
was running. Everyone thought that it was an accident but originally, he attempted suicide because
his pornographic photographs came out. Someone has announced during the Sunday mass that

Let's Go Aero Travel Trailers: A Case for Incorporating the New Model of the Organization into the
Teaching of Budgeting
Sally Wright University of Massachusetts–Boston
INTRODUCTION
Let's Go Aero manufactures travel trailers bought primarily by young families and retirees interested
in a light, low–cost trailer that can easily be pulled by a mid–sized family car. The market for travel
trailers has expanded nicely over the past few years due to the number of families seeking a
relatively low–cost, outdoor vacation experience. But in the view of Let's Go Aero's president, Mark
Newman, the real growth in the future is in the retiree market. Newman believes the vigorous health

She blames Tom Sloan. Let's Go's current aluminum vendor refuses to sign a just–in–time prime
vendor contract due to Tom's uneven production schedule and his refusal to pay on time. Tom has
been seen reading the help wanted ads, and Vicky over heard him talking to an employment agency.
In keeping with the policy set by Tom as Let's Go's production manager, the amount of sheet
aluminum on hand at the end of each month must be equal to one–half of the following month's
production needs for sheet aluminum. The raw materials inventory on December 31, 2010, was
budgeted to be 39,000 square yards. The company does not keep track of work–in–process
inventories. Budgeted expenses for Aluminum and other materials, as well as wages, heat, light and

Sheet aluminum represents the company's single most expensive raw material. Each travel trailer
requires 30 square yards of sheet aluminum. The wholesale cost of sheet aluminum varies
dramatically according to the time of year. The cost per square yard can vary from $15 in the spring,
when new construction tends to start, to $8 in December and January, when demand is lowest. The

2011 Annual Report: L'oreal
As a subsidiary, the Body Shop does not reveal who its financial officers are, nor does the company
reveal the practices that it uses to hedge its foreign exchange rate risk. It is not known if the
company deals with its risk at the company level, of if this function has been transferred to the
group level since L'Oreal took over.
Christian Mulliez is the Executive Vice–President of Administration and Finance for L'Oreal.
According to his biography on the company's website (2012), he graduated from ESSEC Business
School outside of Paris in 1982. He joined the pharmaceutical industry in 1984 and became an
Executive VP Controller and Information Systems at Sanofi–Synthélabo, before being promoted
to Executive VP, Finance in 2000. He joined L'Oreal in 2002 and in 2003 was promoted to his
current position.
In the 2011 Annual Report, L'Oreal outlines how it deals with foreign exchange rate risk. The
company operates globally, and therefore has significant foreign currency exposures. On page 132,
the company outlines how it deals with these. As with many companies, L'Oreal hedges some of its
foreign exchange rate risk. The company hedges at the end of each fiscal year the exposures that it
anticipates for the coming year. The company notes that is does this "using derivatives based on
operating budgets in each subsidiary" and presumable that applies to the Body Shop as well.
The operating budgets are used to analyze the exchange rate risks that the company faces.

Effects of Queensland Floods in 2011
Part 1
The effect in the probability of an increase in the overnight cash rate will decrease in the aftermath
of the Queensland floods. Because of the decrease in the probability of a .25% increase (decrease), it
is likely the cash rate will not change in the month of January or on February 1st. This is in part
because of the effects of the Queensland floods will have had on the national and local economy.
Effects of the floods can also be observed in the form of low inflation and lack of economic growth,
but these are considered to be "temporary adverse effects" so it is likely that rates will increase in
the near future but not in this period (Jan–Feb 2011) of time.

Employment in Australia is on the rise with most people who are willing and able to work now
having the opportunity to do so. Economists consider 5% unemployment which was the value in
January recorded by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Greater number of jobs created because of
factors such as the mining boom and the recovery effect in Queensland because of the floods will
further lower the unemployment rate. This will have the effect of consumers having more disposable
income thus requiring an increase in long term interest rates.
Because of the above I have decided to adopt a strategy of buying contracts when rates are low and
then selling after they rise in an attempt to make a gain. I will speculate.
On Tuesday 22 march 2011 I enter into 5 June 2011 10 year bond futures contracts at $94.200. They
have a semi year yield of 2.9%. After closing out on Thursday 5 may at $95.800 at yield of 2.1%
semi–annually I have made a gain of (101744.85–100197.18) $1547.67 per bond and a total gain of
$7738.35 over the 5 contracts that were entered into. I made a gain because as the price went up the
required yield went down therefore making a gain.
For this contract I paid $1750 per contract and $8750 for all 5 bonds as per the text book.

The Arab Spring Movement Of 2011
Section I: While the Arab Spring Movement of 2011 Didn't Culminate in the Ultimate Goal of
Achieving Real Democracy for Most States with the Exception of Tunisia, the Arab Spring Did
Disrupt the Status Quo and May Eventually be a Stepping Stone in Years Long Struggles for
Democracy.
Never known for being a pillar of peace, the Middle East has always been rife with turmoil.
However, in 2011 this turmoil was super–charged, as several nations experienced civil uprising.
Citizens of Algeria, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Morocco, and Oman, mobilized, forming massive protests.
Heads of state in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, and Yemen were stripped of their powers and removed.
Even more developed nations like Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Sudan experienced protests, albeit
minor during the Arab Spring. (The National.AE, 2011) Objectives in each area varied, but civil
liberties violations and economic grievances were primary concerns among protestors. What's
unique about the Arab Spring, is that activities and information was often shared between
participants via social media. Cheers and encouragement were also doled out via social media by
individuals and groups in other countries. (Kesselman, 2016 page 487)
In retrospect, it's easy to see that their objectives fell short of their intended goals. Be that as it may,
it would be wise to understand the reasoning behind their actions and take a closer look at
"democracy" and the expectations behind this powerful word. Furthermore, it's vital to study

The Queensland Floods of 2010-2011
A flood can be defined in many depths but is simply water where it isn't wanted. In late 2010
Queensland was affected by major flash flooding this continued on into the beginning of 2011 and ¾
of Queensland was declared a disaster zone.
The floods affected 75% of the state from Rockhampton to Brisbane in both inland and coastal
areas. 500 000 km2 were affected – this is larger than the area of France and Germany combined.
The floods started at the end of November 2010 and Cyclone Tasha a category 1 cyclone hit on
Christmas Eve; they continued through till mid–January 2011. Cyclone Yasi then hit in February
soon after the floods causing even more havoc to the already damaged Queensland.
Flooding is most frequently caused from substantial precipitation when waterways are full and the
additional water has nowhere to go. Though rainfall isn't always the cause of floods; they can be the
outcome of other occurrences, mostly in coastal areas where inundation can be triggered by a storm
surge linked with a tropical cyclone, a tsunami or a high tide corresponding with above average river
levels.
Additional factors that can contribute to flooding include: storms, global warming, the capacity,
amount, length and spread of rain over a particular area, the size of waterway to hold excess water,
the catchment and climate conditions preceding rainfall, ground cover, topography and tidal
impacts.
In the Queensland floods of 2010–11 they were caused by a rare combination of events. The

The Lybian Crisis of 2011
The Libyan crisis erupted in January 2011 when the rebel movement prepared and armed itself,
united with the previous governments loyalists and previous army members, to fight against
Gaddafi's regime. Gaddafi's reaction was violent. At first, the rebels rapidly achieved some victories
and were able to take control over the cities of Tobruk and Benghazi. Two months later, though, the
regime's troops re–conquered most of the territories and were ready to regain the rebels refuge,
Benghazi (home to 1 million people). Gaddafi threatened to clear out the city.
The United Nations Security Council sentenced Gaddafi's regime for the violence being used on the
territory and assigned the case to the International Criminal Court for examination.
Meanwhile, the United Nations imposed a no–fly zone over Libya, authorized financial sanctions
and an arms embargo and provided NATO with a mandate to go on the ground and protect civilians
at any cost (UN, 2011c; 2011e). The action was rapid, strong, and in theory prevented the killing of
many civilians. Although NATO had no order for a regime transition, Gaddafi was killed in October
2011.
Compared to the Rwanda Genocide and the Humanitarian crises in Darfur, the United Nations
reaction to Libya's case was powerful and significant. For the first time all the pillars of the
Responsibility to Protect were put into practice. Meaning that, if the troubled State is incapable or
not disposed to protect its citizens, "the State and the

Report on the Canterbury Earthquake of 2011
A report On the Canterbury Earthquake 2011
Introduction
This report will show the reader about which areas and buildings around the Canterbury region were
critically damaged and inaccessible to the public during and after the earth quake which hit the
Canterbury region and was felt beyond the region as well, it will split into two categories cultural
and natural effects. I will also be referring to my "special analysis "data. Also in the report I will
show you were the CDEM should be located in case of another serious natural disaster might occur.
The Canterbury Region, as shown in figure 1 is New Zealand largest region ranging to about 25,252
sq. km with a population of 462,783 (updated on 2006).One of the biggest cities who was hit hard
by the quake was Christchurch, which most of this report is going to talk about.
Cultural
The Christchurch earth quake had many cultural effects that occurred during and after the quake
such streets and houses: Properties and streets were buried in thick layers of silt, and water and
sewage from broken pipes flooded streets. House foundations cracked and buckled wrecking many
homes. Several thousand homes will have to be demolished, and some sections of suburbs will
probably never be re–occupied such as houses in the red zone, as shown in figure 10. Another
cultural effect was critically damaged buildings in the CBD area, as shown in figure 13. The
critically damaged buildings that were brought down were buildings previously damaged in the

Sara Lee Corporation in 2011
MEMORANDUM
DATE: 11/12/12
TO: Mrs. Sabine Turnley
FROM: Team 5 (Jamie Briscoe, Bradley Veenendaal, Jessica Kolb, Rebecca Christie, Kody Lynn)
SUBJ: Sara Lee Corporation in 2011: Has Its Retrenchment Strategy Been Successful?
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
In 2005, Sara Lee placed a strategic plan in action to transform the business into a more tightly
focused food, beverage and household products company. This involved the divestiture of weak–
performing business and product categories, which included eight business units. Although the
divestiture would decrease Sara Lee's revenues, it was believed that concentrating their financial and
managerial resources on a smaller number of business units would be beneficial. Sara Lee struggled

Using our measures, weights, and the importance of the weight, we found that the five industries
that Sara Lee occupies are fairly similar in attractiveness. The food retail industry is the most
attractive and the international refrigerated bread industry is the least attractive.
The food retail industry is the most attractive primarily because it has an extremely high market
size. This industry is benefiting from the economic downturn because less people are eating at
restaurants. Instead they are making more meals at home. Although this industry is benefiting from
the economic downturn, there is a high risk of uncertainty. This is because of the competitiveness of
the industry, economic factors, and emerging opportunities that the business unit will have to face.
On the other side, the international refrigerated bread industry is the least attractive because of the
global economic downturn. The economic recession affected this company particularly hard. Spain
is the main country that supported this industry for refrigerated bread and got hit harder than other
countries. Spain is also the only country that is looking to continue the want for refrigerated bread,
whereas other countries are turning to fresh breads as its leading bread products causing the
projected growth rate to decrease significantly.
The business units represented in Sara Lee's portfolio are highly

2011 Texas Drought
Socio–Economic Implications of Drought in the Agricultural Sector and the State Economy by
Jadwiga R. Ziolkowska This article is a case study of the 2011 Texas drought that specifically
analyzes economic losses that drought can produce, and the effect that future droughts can have on
the agricultural industry. The 2011 Texas drought was specifically caused by an extended period of
hot, dry weather, which is identical to the circumstances of the Ontario case study I address in my
paper. The main argument of this article was to show that agricultural industries are essential to the
economy, and drought has the biggest negative impact, as evidenced by "The results show that the
$7.62 billion of agricultural production losses caused irreversible ... Show more content on

An interesting result from this article is that there is a correlation between drought preparedness and
whether or not they had previously experienced negative drought effects (Coppock, 2011, p613).
Essentially, this indicates that farmers are more likely to "learn the hard way". I couldn't quite wrap
my head around the fact that in Utah, a total of 78.8% of land is owned by state and federal
governments, which in turn leases land to farmers (Coppock, p608). This is virtually unheard of in
Canadian agriculture, where no such governmental oversight exists. In Canada, there are very
limited, if any, disaster–assistance programs. Similar to my previous annotation, there are distinct
differences between Canadian and American agriculture that make this article slightly less relevant
to my research. For instance, cattle farmers in the Midwestern US use free ranging grazing
techniques, because they have access to more acres of grazing pasture. In comparison, farmers in
Canada (specifically Eastern Canada) keep their cattle on a smaller acreage, and supplement grazing

german economy 2004-2011
Assessment: Germany 2011 Germany from 2004 until 2011, showed a positive trend with the GDP
per capita. From $29,684.33 in 2004, Germany boosted their GDP per capita up to $39,187.01 in
2011, which is approximately a 50% increase. This shows that Germany managed to put its
economy in an upward trend, although the Eurozone was struggling with its economic growth,
particularly during 2009 and 2010. Similarly, GNI per capita of Germany in 2004 was $29,938.63,
yet by 2011, the GNI per capita was $39,943.53. This again shows a positive trend overall, which
shows that Germany has been growing gradually as years passed with its economy. One thing which
differs GNI from GDP is that GNI involves overseas investments and foreigners ' earns in ... Show

Moreover, the fact that the government kept its stability of tax revenue even during 2009 and 2010
when Eurozone crisis occurred, shows that Germany 's economic health was still relatively good
even when crisis occurred around Europe. We assume that the tax revenue in 2011 was about 37%,
seeing the overall trend of tax revenue. As mentioned before, this means that Germany has had a
stable economic health throughout the 7 years, considering the fact that the tax revenue has not gone
up or down by a great number. Current account balance of payments was positive value throughout
the 7 years, showing that the amount of exports from Germany exceeded the amount of imports.
That shows that country is making profit overall, by exporting and importing with other countries,
yet exporting great amount, enough to keep the country earning profits. Moreover, the fact that the
current account balance of payments went up from 4.6% to 5.7% shows that the country managed to
widen the difference between the amount of exports and imports even more, to bring more profit
into Germany. Germany did a fine job in keeping the unemployment rate low. In fact, Germany
managed to cut the unemployment rate by almost a half, from 10.5% in 2004, to 5.9% in 2011. This
means that there are more jobs available in Germany now than in 2004. According to the circular
flow of income, this means that there is more money going around, prospering the

2011 Annual Report: The Burberry
The Burberry 2011 Annual Report does in general meet the conditions of the Combined Code.
Beginning on page 66 is the Director's Report. This section extensively reports on the Board of
Directors, including their biographies, the corporate governance statement, information and
financial reporting, relations with shareholders and other elements of the Board's function. The
Board provides leadership for the company with respect to its internal control. The Audit Committee
is responsible for this internal control. There are five members of the audit committee, and they are
all independent. The audit committee is responsible for the following. It is responsible for reviewing
the financial statements, for reviewing the company's compliance and control systems, for
monitoring the effectiveness of the internal audit function, assessing the independence and
objectivity of the external auditors, and ensuring the employees have the opportunity to raise
concerns about matters of financial reporting. The audit committee supports the Board. Ultimately,
because the audit committee is comprised of members of the Board, they are elected by the
shareholders. Should the shareholders decide, they can replace these members at the annual
meetings.
There is some discussion about uncertainties in the report, but that discussions is very vague in
nature, and does not illuminate anything that a reasonable investor does not already know. There are
no specifics about the risks, nor is there any

JCPenney: America's Retail Destination Essay
J.C. Penney's has the desire to become America's favorite retail destination for apparel, accessories
and home fashion. With approximately 1,108 operating stores throughout the United States and
Puerto Rico, they serve half of America's families every year. They employ nearly 156,000
associates and strive to be number one in customer service. Despite the recent economic downturn,
JCP maintained a steady cash flow and has been able to keep their company running strong. J.C.

behind developing new processes is to bring in profit.
More recently, JCPenney's has been revamping their look. They started this process by first
changing the logo that they use. It is a slight change to the color set up, but is noticeable to the
consumer. They are also adding brands to the already long list of designers to give more options to
the consumer. MNG by Mango is brand that they started to carry in 2010. Within 2011 they are
going to expand the concept to 215 additional stores and eventually grow the brand to 500 stores by
the fall of 2011. The idea of this brand is to supply the customer with quality, affordable fashions
that have the runway look and feel. Modern Bride is another idea that was launched at the very
beginning of 2011. The brand has been launched to any store that has a jewelry department, which is
about 1,068 stores in all, along with jcp.com. The Modern Bride collection is collaboration with
Condé Nast to create stylish engagement rings and wedding bands. Call it Spring is yet another new

The Media Presented The Riots Of 2011
There are many factors that will influence choice of research topic including; current events in the
news, moral panics, phenomena relating to sociological theories e.g., exploitation, misogyny,
previous research, the political climate and personal interests.
I am extremely interested in the ways that social order is 'produced' by society and have decided as a
consequence to study the ways that the Riots of 2011 were portrayed in the media.
The research hypothesis that I will attempt to investigate is: 'The media presented the Riots of 2011
in a bias way.'
Sociologists have a range of research methods available to them to investigate society. These
research methods can be classified into two broad groups; quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative
research methods advocated by Positivists tend to have higher numbers of respondents and less
involvement on the part of the researcher. These methods are deemed to be 'scientific' as they enable
high levels of empirical research, objectivity and academic detachment. However, the Feminist
School of Thought and Ann Oakley in particular, would reject this approach to sociological
investigations stating that they symbolise patriarchy, lack of reciprocity and unequal power
relationships.
Weber, the founding father of the Anti–Positivist School of Thought, rejected the assumptions of
positivism stating that they produce numbers, results and statistics that are based on meanings,
negotiations and interactions and advocated the use of

Case Study Of Ola
Ola is a Spanish word which means "Hello". Ola is a privately held company. Ola is registered as a
technological company in India. Ola cab services range from economic to luxury. Ola cab are
booked through a mobile app. Ola doesn't own these cabs, it aggregates them so that users can
reserve these cabs through the Ola mobile app. Ola has started many other services like Ola café,
Ola money and Ola corporate, but Ola cabs in the main source of revenue for Ola.
Ola, the largest taxi aggregator in country is getting bigger and bigger. In November 2015 it claimed
that it holds 80% market share. In the industry which is growing at 25–30 percent annually it wants
to continue its strategy of focusing on expansion. It's CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal, an IIT B graduate is
aware of the stiff competition. After the entry of Uber in India the game has changed completely. He
wants to defend Ola market at any cost. In order to do so his team is adding 1500 cabs every day.
They want to reach the target of 1 million cabs by 2016 end. In order to continue its expansion
strategy Ola has started acquiring companies. TFS is one of the biggest acquisition Ola did to grow
inorganically. Ola sits on large cash reserves and is open to different ideas through which it can
grow. It will be exciting to see the future of Indian taxi aggregator industry in general and Ola in
particular.

Thus the radio cab industry has to abide the laws, same is the case of the unorganized taxi sector.
But the irony is that the taxi aggregator companies are not governed by these laws. These companies
project themselves as a technological company and hence they are not liable for compensation in
case of any casualty to customer or driver. The 2012 Uber rape case brought this irony in public
domain and new legislation where introduced to monitor these cabs and drivers. Despite these laws
this industry is still governed by minimal

Constitutional Law Assignment 2011
Outline: The purpose of this paper is to Advise Allan, Belinda and CareFree Pty Ltd as to the
constitutional validity of the Medicinal Cannabis Act 2011 (Cth) (MCA) in terms of whether its
provisions apply to them under the trade and commerce power s 51(i) and as to whether the MCEA
(Medicinal Cannabis Export Authority) is constitutionally valid in light of the separation of judicial
power doctrine. This paper begins by analysing the validity of MCEA. In doing so the paper not
only confers to the characterisation of the laws under the trade and commerce powers of s 51(i), but
also includes the implied incidental powers and the doctrine of principles of separation of judicial
power. There after it advises Allan, Belinda and Carefree Pty ... Show more content on

Therefore in the given impugned law, the MCA is related to the trade and commerce with other
countries, the character of the law, even though not all of them, does fall under the enumerated head
of power Commonwealth Constitution s51 (i). Therefore the given Act is valid in terms of its
character, as it affects the trade and commerce of cannabis for the purpose of medicinal use.
Sufficient Connection with head of power: The third step in determining the validity of the
impugned law is to ask whether there is a sufficient connection with the head of power. That is how
close the connection is between the impugned law and the heads of power. Sufficient connection
with head of power fairly described as a law "with respect to" a head of power. Next step is how
close a connection needs to be? This is answered in Re Dingjan: Ex parte Wagner that "connection
need not be close, but must not be too 'insubstantial, tenuous or distant'. As in the given head of
power, is the power to legislate with respect to trade and commerce the words "with respect" ought
never to be neglected in considering the extent of power conferred. Therefore in the given impugned
law, trade and commerce of cannabis is under the powers of the given head of power, there are
certain characters such as aerial spraying, licensing arrangement and other restrictions that seem to
be outside the scope of the given head of

Uk Riots 2011
UK RIOTS 2011 Between the 6th and 11th of August 2011 thousands of people rioted in cities
across England participating in looting, arson and vandalism. The rioting occurred after a peaceful
demonstration on the 4th of August in Tottenham over the death of local 29–year–old father of four
Mark Duggan who was a victim of a still–unresolved shooting by the police. 1. Text 1 "Experts Cite
Underlying Causes for UK Riots" is a news report by Al Pessin published on Voice of America

He doesn't argue for these drafts of punishment and prevention. The form of appeal is mostly ethos
and in a mild degree logos. 3. There are some conflicting elements, when discussing how society
can prevent similar problems in the future. Cameron expresses in text 1 that he wishes better
parenting. Parents have to set boundaries with the purpose of children knowing the difference
between right and wrong. His promised harsher consequences involving a higher fixing of sentence
and tougher police tactics will maybe have a frightening effect on young people, but will not change
their minds, if they are determined to participate in riots. Prevention costs less than punishment and
is both the most humanitarian and the only sensible solution. It can be very stressful being a
teenager with a cut in youth service spending by the government and increasing expectations and
demands by the society. We need to invest in young people to create a feeling of stability and hope.
Through interventions young people will be motivated and open their eyes to new opportunities. The
government can take inspiration from Denmark, where we demand that young people are occupied
with either school or work. If a person doesn't have a high enough average or miss subjects in order
to attend the dream university, the student counsellor needs to get them going and make plans
involving courses. Areas where immigrant families live e.g. ghettoes needs

where the impact on target groups is traced back to specific elements of a project or programme so
that effective and ineffective project components may be identified." In educational research the
tracer study is sometimes referred to as a graduate or alumni survey since its target group is former
students. Schomburg(2003, p.36) notes that graduate surveys are popular for "analysis of the
relationship between higher education and work." They provide quantitative–structural data on
employment and career, the character of work and related competencies, and information onthe
professional orientation and experiences of their graduates.
Graduates. Students/ or person who finishes a study under the bachelor of science in hotel and

2011's Contagion Paper
2011's Contagion portrays the issue of a worldwide disease pandemic, in which a newly discovered
sickness begins to infect and kill massive amounts of the world's total population. Not only does this
movie show the difficulties of researching the microbe, but also the complex social issues that stem
from attempting to contain the spread of the illness. Unfortunately, the outbreak of the disease
begins at the start of the holiday season, meaning that it is able to spread quickly and easily due to
increased travel and busy public areas; such as in malls, airports, buses, and schools. Authorities
were initially forced to deal with this issue by recommending citizens to take certain precautions,
and also by letting out schools in which students

Superdry Group Report
Superdry Group Report
Superdry is a clothing company inspired by a trip to Tokyo in 2003. They aim to create clothing that
incorporates 3 cultures: Japanese, American and British. They manage to do so by merging together
British tailoring with Americana design, with subtle hints of Japanese characters. As a result,
Superdry is a unique clothing brand with an exceptional amount of detail, leading to it being a very
popular brand for those 16–35. Another aspect that has made the brand so popular is the fact that
many celebrities have been pictured wearing the brand. The most famous of these is probably David
Beckham who was snapped wearing their "Brad" leather jacket, which then went on to sell 77,000 in
just 2 years. This report aims to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason could be that Superdry is a very distinctive brand, with its bright colours,
contemporary design and Japanese characters in all of their clothing. Due to the economic downturn
many mid–range high street stores are closing down or suffering from a lack of sales, but not
Superdry. They are one of very few stores that are actually doing well through this period. Due to
Superdrys success and distinctive look, other companies have openly looked to copy them. Some
comical examples of these are Superfry and Silverdry. As a result, Superdry spends £1million a year
preventing people from copying their clothing. In 2009, the Times ran a story about Superdry
employing two bodyguards to prevent unaccredited buyers from entering and taking pictures at a
German trade fair. Primark started selling an almost identical jacket to that of the one David
Beckham was snapped in. Superdry seeked for compensation, and Primark were ordered to stop
producing the jacket and give up any remaining stock. Dids McDonald, CEO of ACID (Anti–
Counterfeiting In Design) had this to say: "The investment incentive is not there for some retailers
do the design, research and development; instead retailers look at what's selling – and it tends to be
design–led companies that bring out the hottest stuff – take it, change it a bit and hope that's OK. To
bring a product to market takes

Pfizer Review Essay
OUR IMPACT ANNUAL REVIEW 2010
An enduring, positive impact.
Ian C. Read President & CEO
TO OUR STAKEHOLDERS
It is an honor for me to lead Pfizer at this important time for both our company and the industry. I've
spent my entire career at Pfizer and during this time I have seen the industry change and evolve in
terms of customers' needs, regulatory standards and where growth occurs. Among these changes,
one of the most important has been the increasing pressure from payers, governments and society to
deliver greater value. That's why I believe there is a fundamental question facing the industry and
Pfizer. Simply stated, it is: Do we have a research model that will consistently produce results that
improve the lives of patients ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

reconciliation of 2010 "adjusted income" and its components and "adjusted diluted EPS" to 2010
"reported net income" and its components and "reported diluted EPS" are provided in Pfizer's

The Syrian Conflict Of 2011
The Syrian conflict began in March of 2011 and is currently ongoing as of December of 2016. In
2015, Russian President Putin has allied with the Syrian President Bashar al–Assad to combat
against rebel forces. As a result, innocent civilians, in particular civilians of Aleppo, and
humanitarian workers are victims to bombardments. In September 2016, Secretary John Kerry
negotiated a cease–fire agreement between the United States and Russia, in order to allow aid
convoys to provide relief. The cease–fire agreement was supposed to apply to Russia, Syria and the
United States. However, on September 19, 2016 eighteen out of thirty–one convoys were attacked
by an airstrike. The attack resulted in the death of 21 civilians and one Syrian Arab Crescent
member (Hennessy–Fiske, 2016). Some immediately assumed Russia was responsible and should be
held accountable for breaking the agreement. However, President Putin and Bashar al–Assad
rejected the claim. While the attack was undergoing investigation, the UN suspended aid to Syria.
The International Committee of the Red Cross postponed an aid convoy set to deliver supplies in
Syrian towns. The Syrian Arab Red Crescent also postponed aid relief, but this is only temporary.
The MSF published a statement on their website, which states, "This is another example of
wholesome disregard for the basic rules of war in the Syrian conflict" (Medecins Sans Frontieres,
2016).
Organizations such as the ICRC, SARC and MSF are supposed to be

Analysis Of The 2011 Riots
A 'riot' is commonly defined as a disorderly behaviour, which often involve violence and the
destruction of property (Andrews, 2014, p. 292). Riots can be viewed from a Conservative point of
view and from a Radical point of view. Conservatism and Radicalism are both political ideologies.
Although ideologies are 'explanatory frameworks that help to make sense of society' (Andrews,
2014, p. 306), conservatism and radicalism contrast in many ways. Conservatism is associated with
wisdom, limited politics, and natural hierarchy, legitimising the existing order. Radicalism is linked
to progress, universal rights and popular sovereignty, suggesting alternative to the existing order
(The Open University, 2016b). Conservative view and radical view on ... Show more content on

The conservative view is illustrated by then Prime Minister David Cameron, in his 2011 speech on
the riots where he disregarded social poverty and unemployment as motive for the 2011 riots.
Cameron then stated that: "And this riots were not about poverty", furthermore blaming
'Irresponsibility. Selfishness. Behaving as if your choices have no consequences' (Cameron, 2011
cited in Andrews, 2014, p. 309). This is an example of conservative ideology on riots. Geoff
Andrews in his analysis of David Cameron's speech, highlights how Cameron is using words such
as irresponsibility and selfishness, and is placing the blame on individuals rather than social
inequalities (The Open University, 2016b). Although this was not a new idea. In Reflection of the
Revolution in France, published in 1790, Edmund Burke argues that French Revolution was
'motivated by self–interest and disruptive elements' (Burke, 2003 [1790] cited in Andrews, 2014, p.
304). Burke further pinpoints that the riots were induced by 'greed and violence', citing the actions
of the 'mob' (Burke, 2003 [1790] cited in Andrews, 2014, p. 305). This reference to the power of the
mob is still used today when Ian Kinsella describes the 2011 riots on the BBC in the film
'Newsnight on the 2011 riots' (The Open University, 2016a). Mr Kinsella, a Business Man from
Manchester with conservative view, pinpoints the fact that there were no rules and that the disorder
was reflected in the power of the mob. In summary, the conservative view of riots stresses the
disorder, the irresponsibility, the individual lack of moral, the threat to private

The Pearl Of The United States Rhetorical Analysis
One action the king took was to shut off the Salminaya Medical Centre in Manama. The medical
staff took part in a social action. They took the side of the protestors and started politically talking.
They even started protesting. They also treated injured demonstrators. One point of view is from a
medic. His point of view is social justice, he backs the protestors. He believe that the government is
savage and cruel. "That day changed my life, I felt bad seeing my own people treated like animals.
He believe this because he sees his people being treated like animals by the government. He values
respect and equality for his people. In retaliation the military blocked off the hospital. Which meant
that the hurt and dying were unable to get in and get help. They turned the hospital into a military
prison. As it was seen as an anti–governmental hub. Doctors and nurses were raped, beaten, arrested,
jailed and tortured. 20 doctors and nurses were sentenced for 15 years in jail. ... Show more content

Between broken bones, the pieces of the pearl's cracked skull lie in sand and rubble." A quote from
the Bahrain Observer describes the destruction of the Pearl Roundabout. The king then tried to
perform the act of "Damnatio Memoriae," which is translated from Latin as the condemnation of
memory. Damnatio Memoriae means that all images are destroyed of a person thats been decreed by
the government as an enemy of the state. Which makes Pearl Roundabout an enemy of the state. The
king had postcards that had the Pearl Roundabout on them and 500 fils coins which featured Pearl
Roundabout removed from public access. He also decreed that Pearl Roundabout was to be called
by it's official name; GCC Roundabout or Dowar Majilis Al Ta'awon. To this day Pearl Roundabout
is still inaccessible due to roads to it being blocked by riot police vans and soldiers. It is now
referred to as Al–Farooq

process as an officer in regard to the 2011 Japan's earthquake. Professor Feely generally talks about
his own experiences as a navy officer at the logistic center at the US Navy in 2011. After the
earthquake happened, he was challenged to carry out the fleet's immediate mission: to provide

Canada in general is known for their hockey, even the people that are not die–hard fans got swept into the action and excitement. Almost 15000 people watched on a live screen in Downtown, Vancouver. After the lost of the game to the Bruins, hundreds of people started the 2011 Vancouver Riot. There were many perspectives of the Riot offered during the CAP lecture. A major theme was the sense of unity, before and after the riot. Dr. Lam introduced a psychological aspect of the riot, and the underlying motivation behind the riot. • 5. 2011 Fukushima Earthquake On Friday, 11 March 2011, a 9.1 magnitude earthquake/nuclear disaster shook Fukushima city at the north–eastern coast of Hionshu island near the town Okuma. The earthquake caused a tsunami with 30–foot waves that damaged several nuclear reactors in the area, leaving nearly 20,000 deaths and 2,500 missing caused by the initial earthquake and tsunami and by post–disaster health conditions. (CNN, 2017) The geological cause of the earthquake was the collision of two plates which caused a destructive earthquake and a tsunami. The 2011 earthquake struck Japan, along a subduction zone where two of Earth's tectonic plates collide, one plate sliding beneath another into the mantle. Energy is built through the plates sticking together, releasing the earthquakes. East of Japan, the Pacific plate dives beneath the North American plate. The damage to the Nuclear power plant Fukushima, resulted radiation contamination to spread across the Pacific. The ocean's surface transported radioactive debris and other materials. This nuclear disaster destroyed many areas around it, making them inhabitable for a long time. • 13. Cameron's Speech On The 2011 Riots In his speech on the riots, Cameron discounted social conditions such as poverty and unemployment as reasons for the 2011 riots, and focussed instead on criminality and morality '(Andrews, G. 2014). This essay will compare and contrast this conservative view of the riots with the radical view. A riot is an occasion involving violence directed at property, persons or authority. The current understanding of the term riot dates back to the fourteenth century, when it began to suggest violence and disorder among the population. By the eighteenth–century violence and disorder was on the rise in England, which resulted in Parliament passing the Riot Act of 1715. Conservatism is characterised for their resistant to change, although when it is necessary, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The discussion on BBC News night highlighted the differences in the conservative and radical views on the riots. Ian Kinsella described his concern at how the rioters would be controlled going forward. He described how he pleaded with the rioters to stop, however was chased off and told 'You're insured mate, you'll be ok!'. Opposite Ian Kinsella was Cody Lachey, a proud mancunion who admitted to dressing inconspicuously to partake in the looting. Cody Lachey had a change of heart and although he fully supported the looters, he decided against looting. Kirsty the BBC news reporter pointed out that Cody Lachey had served in the military overseas in Afghanistan and Bosnia, he also worked as a security guard for large retailers, she questioned why he doesn't turn the looters in? Cody's response 'Because I understand...We live in an impoverished society where people do what they have to do to feed their families, and that's the life we're living.'' (The Open University, 2017). Cody's response is one shared with a high percentage of the rioters, they blamed the crushing effect of poverty, parents who have to work two or three jobs to make ends meet, parents who have no time for their children, no childcare, increase intuition fees, closure of youth services and scrapping of education maintenance and lack of respect from the police. It is believed 59% of those arrested for rioting were unemployed and conceded their involvement in looting was simply down to opportunism, saying that a perceived suspension of normal rules presented them with the opportunity to acquire goods and luxury items they could not ordinarily afford. (Rusbridger, A. 2017). Martin Luther King once defined rioting as the language of the unheard. This was a radical's view expressed by a youth worker shortly after the 2011 ... Lockheed Martin experienced a positive turnaround under new CEO Robert Stevens' leadership, and is now entrenched as a leading competitor in the Aerospace and Defense (A&D) industry. They maintain an extensive business portfolio and continue to increase shareholder value. Europe has enacted a "Clean Sky" initiative, which is a large research project with the goal of providing a step in environmentally friendly air transport technology. Technology is an important facet in the industry, and therefore has a high emphasis. Cutting edge technology has driven rising costs for consumers. This also causes R&D spending to be fairly high. Because of this, Defense companies often seek to find commercial use for new technology. Forecasted Defense trends indicate industry adjustment to reduced government defense spending. Because companies have overlooked operational efficiency and relied heavily on government spending, efficiency will now become a focus with decreased spending. Companies will also attempt to explore new markets, such as Lockheed Martin's secured contract with Israel for future purchase of F–35's, as well as entering into related markets to diversify revenues. Increased competition is expected due to consolidations among smaller companies in an effort to become more competitive (Thompson). The market for travel trailers has expanded nicely over the past few years due to the number of families seeking a relatively low–cost, outdoor vacation experience. Because of the decrease in the probability of a .25% increase (decrease), it is likely the cash rate will not change in the month of January or on February 1st. This is in part because of the effects of the Queensland floods will have had on the national and local economy. Effects of the floods can also be observed in the form of low inflation and lack of economic growth, but these are considered to be "temporary adverse effects" so it is likely that rates will increase in the near future but not in this period (Jan–Feb 2011) of time. Employment in Australia is on the rise with most people who are willing and able to work now having the opportunity to do so. Economists consider 5% unemployment which was the value in January recorded by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Greater number of jobs created because of factors such as the mining boom and the recovery effect in Queensland because of the floods will further lower the unemployment rate. This will have the effect of consumers having more disposable income thus requiring an increase in long term interest rates. Because of the above I have decided to adopt a strategy of buying contracts when rates are low and then selling after they rise in an attempt to make a gain. I will speculate. On Tuesday 22 march 2011 I enter into 5 June 2011 10 year bond futures contracts at $94.200. They have a semi year yield of 2.9%. The Arab Spring Movement Of 2011 Section I: While the Arab Spring Movement of 2011 Didn't Culminate in the Ultimate Goal of Achieving Real Democracy for Most States with the Exception of Tunisia, the Arab Spring Did Disrupt the Status Quo and May Eventually be a Stepping Stone in Years Long Struggles for Democracy. Even more developed nations like Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Sudan experienced protests, albeit minor during the Arab Spring. (The National.AE, 2011) Objectives in each area varied, but civil liberties violations and economic grievances were primary concerns among protestors. What's unique about the Arab Spring, is that activities and information was often shared between participants via social media. Cheers and encouragement were also doled out via social media by individuals and groups in other countries. (Kesselman, 2016 page 487) In retrospect, it's easy to see that their objectives fell short of their intended goals. Be that as it may, it would be wise to understand the reasoning behind their actions and take a closer look at "democracy" and the expectations behind this powerful word. • 33. The Queensland Floods of 2010-2011 A flood can be defined in many depths but is simply water where it isn't wanted. In late 2010 Queensland was affected by major flash flooding this continued on into the beginning of 2011 and ¾ of Queensland was declared a disaster zone. The floods affected 75% of the state from Rockhampton to Brisbane in both inland and coastal areas. 500 000 km2 were affected – this is larger than the area of France and Germany combined. The floods started at the end of November 2010 and Cyclone Tasha a category 1 cyclone hit on Christmas Eve; they continued through till mid–January 2011. Cyclone Yasi then hit in February soon after the floods causing even more havoc to the already damaged Queensland. Flooding is most frequently caused from substantial precipitation when waterways are full and the additional water has nowhere to go. Though rainfall isn't always the cause of floods; they can be the outcome of other occurrences, mostly in coastal areas where inundation can be triggered by a storm surge linked with a tropical cyclone, a tsunami or a high tide corresponding with above average river levels. Additional factors that can contribute to flooding include: storms, global warming, the capacity, amount, length and spread of rain over a particular area, the size of waterway to hold excess water, the catchment and climate conditions preceding rainfall, ground cover, topography and tidal impacts. In the Queensland floods of 2010–11 they were caused by a rare combination of events. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Lybian Crisis of 2011 The Libyan crisis erupted in January 2011 when the rebel movement prepared and armed itself, united with the previous governments loyalists and previous army members, to fight against Gaddafi's regime. Gaddafi's reaction was violent. At first, the rebels rapidly achieved some victories and were able to take control over the cities of Tobruk and Benghazi. Two months later, though, the regime's troops re–conquered most of the territories and were ready to regain the rebels refuge, Benghazi (home to 1 million people). Gaddafi threatened to clear out the city. The United Nations Security Council sentenced Gaddafi's regime for the violence being used on the territory and assigned the case to the International Criminal Court for examination. Meanwhile, the United Nations imposed a no–fly zone over Libya, authorized financial sanctions and an arms embargo and provided NATO with a mandate to go on the ground and protect civilians at any cost (UN, 2011c; 2011e). The action was rapid, strong, and in theory prevented the killing of many civilians. Although NATO had no order for a regime transition, Gaddafi was killed in October 2011. Compared to the Rwanda Genocide and the Humanitarian crises in Darfur, the United Nations reaction to Libya's case was powerful and significant. For the first time all the pillars of the Responsibility to Protect were put into practice. Meaning that, if the troubled State is incapable or not disposed to protect its citizens, "the State and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: In 2005, Sara Lee placed a strategic plan in action to transform the business into a more tightly focused food, beverage and household products company. This involved the divestiture of weak– performing business and product categories, which included eight business units. Although the divestiture would decrease Sara Lee's revenues, it was believed that concentrating their financial and managerial resources on a smaller number of business units would be beneficial. Using our measures, weights, and the importance of the weight, we found that the five industries that Sara Lee occupies are fairly similar in attractiveness. The food retail industry is the most attractive and the international refrigerated bread industry is the least attractive. The food retail industry is the most attractive primarily because it has an extremely high market size. This industry is benefiting from the economic downturn because less people are eating at restaurants. Instead they are making more meals at home. Although this industry is benefiting from the economic downturn, there is a high risk of uncertainty. This is because of the competitiveness of the industry, economic factors, and emerging opportunities that the business unit will have to face. On the other side, the international refrigerated bread industry is the least attractive because of the global economic downturn. The economic recession affected this company particularly hard. Spain is the main country that supported this industry for refrigerated bread and got hit harder than other countries. Spain is also the only country that is looking to continue the want for refrigerated bread, whereas other countries are turning to fresh breads as its leading bread products causing the projected growth rate to decrease significantly. The business units represented in Sara Lee's portfolio are highly

Ziolkowska This article is a case study of the 2011 Texas drought that specifically analyzes economic losses that drought can produce, and the effect that future droughts can have on the agricultural industry. The 2011 Texas drought was specifically caused by an extended period of hot, dry weather, which is identical to the circumstances of the Ontario case study I address in my paper. The main argument of this article was to show that agricultural industries are essential to the economy, and drought has the biggest negative impact, as evidenced by "The results show that the $7.62 billion of agricultural production losses caused irreversible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An interesting result from this article is that there is a correlation between drought preparedness and whether or not they had previously experienced negative drought effects (Coppock, 2011, p613). Essentially, this indicates that farmers are more likely to "learn the hard way". I couldn't quite wrap my head around the fact that in Utah, a total of 78.8% of land is owned by state and federal governments, which in turn leases land to farmers (Coppock, p608). This is virtually unheard of in Canadian agriculture, where no such governmental oversight exists. In Canada, there are very limited, if any, disaster–assistance programs. Similar to my previous annotation, there are distinct differences between Canadian and American agriculture that make this article slightly less relevant to my research. For instance, cattle farmers in the Midwestern US use free ranging grazing techniques, because they have access to more acres of grazing pasture. In comparison, farmers in Canada (specifically Eastern Canada) keep their cattle on a smaller acreage, and supplement grazing with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As mentioned before, this means that Germany has had a stable economic health throughout the 7 years, considering the fact that the tax revenue has not gone up or down by a great number. Current account balance of payments was positive value throughout the 7 years, showing that the amount of exports from Germany exceeded the amount of imports. That shows that country is making profit overall, by exporting and importing with other countries, yet exporting great amount, enough to keep the country earning profits. The Media Presented The Riots Of 2011 There are many factors that will influence choice of research topic including; current events in the news, moral panics, phenomena relating to sociological theories e.g., exploitation, misogyny, previous research, the political climate and personal interests. I am extremely interested in the ways that social order is 'produced' by society and have decided as a consequence to study the ways that the Riots of 2011 were portrayed in the media. The research hypothesis that I will attempt to investigate is: 'The media presented the Riots of 2011 in a bias way.' Sociologists have a range of research methods available to them to investigate society. These research methods can be classified into two broad groups; quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative research methods advocated by Positivists tend to have higher numbers of respondents and less involvement on the part of the researcher. These methods are deemed to be 'scientific' as they enable high levels of empirical research, objectivity and academic detachment. However, the Feminist School of Thought and Ann Oakley in particular, would reject this approach to sociological investigations stating that they symbolise patriarchy, lack of reciprocity and unequal power relationships. Weber, the founding father of the Anti–Positivist School of Thought, rejected the assumptions of positivism stating that they produce numbers, results and statistics that are based on meanings, negotiations and interactions and advocated the use of ... • 85. The Syrian Conflict Of 2011 The Syrian conflict began in March of 2011 and is currently ongoing as of December of 2016. In 2015, Russian President Putin has allied with the Syrian President Bashar al–Assad to combat against rebel forces. As a result, innocent civilians, in particular civilians of Aleppo, and humanitarian workers are victims to bombardments. In September 2016, Secretary John Kerry negotiated a cease–fire agreement between the United States and Russia, in order to allow aid convoys to provide relief. The cease–fire agreement was supposed to apply to Russia, Syria and the United States. However, on September 19, 2016 eighteen out of thirty–one convoys were attacked by an airstrike. The attack resulted in the death of 21 civilians and one Syrian Arab Crescent member (Hennessy–Fiske, 2016). Some immediately assumed Russia was responsible and should be held accountable for breaking the agreement. However, President Putin and Bashar al–Assad rejected the claim. While the attack was undergoing investigation, the UN suspended aid to Syria. The International Committee of the Red Cross postponed an aid convoy set to deliver supplies in Syrian towns. The Syrian Arab Red Crescent also postponed aid relief, but this is only temporary. The MSF published a statement on their website, which states, "This is another example of wholesome disregard for the basic rules of war in the Syrian conflict" (Medecins Sans Frontieres, 2016). Organizations such as the ICRC, SARC and MSF are supposed to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 87. Analysis Of The 2011 Riots A 'riot' is commonly defined as a disorderly behaviour, which often involve violence and the destruction of property (Andrews, 2014, p. 292). Riots can be viewed from a Conservative point of view and from a Radical point of view. Conservatism and Radicalism are both political ideologies. Although ideologies are 'explanatory frameworks that help to make sense of society' (Andrews, 2014, p. 306), conservatism and radicalism contrast in many ways. Conservatism is associated with wisdom, limited politics, and natural hierarchy, legitimising the existing order. Radicalism is linked to progress, universal rights and popular sovereignty, suggesting alternative to the existing order (The Open University, 2016b). Conservative view and radical view on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The conservative view is illustrated by then Prime Minister David Cameron, in his 2011 speech on the riots where he disregarded social poverty and unemployment as motive for the 2011 riots. Cameron then stated that: "And this riots were not about poverty", furthermore blaming 'Irresponsibility. Selfishness. Behaving as if your choices have no consequences' (Cameron, 2011 cited in Andrews, 2014, p. 309). This is an example of conservative ideology on riots. Geoff Andrews in his analysis of David Cameron's speech, highlights how Cameron is using words such as irresponsibility and selfishness, and is placing the blame on individuals rather than social inequalities (The Open University, 2016b). Although this was not a new idea. In Reflection of the Revolution in France, published in 1790, Edmund Burke argues that French Revolution was 'motivated by self–interest and disruptive elements' (Burke, 2003 [1790] cited in Andrews, 2014, p. 304). Burke further pinpoints that the riots were induced by 'greed and violence', citing the actions of the 'mob' (Burke, 2003 [1790] cited in Andrews, 2014, p. 305). This reference to the power of the mob is still used today when Ian Kinsella describes the 2011 riots on the BBC in the film 'Newsnight on the 2011 riots' (The Open University, 2016a). Mr Kinsella, a Business Man from Manchester with conservative view, pinpoints the fact that there were no rules and that the disorder was reflected in the power of the mob. In summary, the conservative view of riots stresses the disorder, the irresponsibility, the individual lack of moral, the threat to private ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 89. The Pearl Of The United States Rhetorical Analysis One action the king took was to shut off the Salminaya Medical Centre in Manama. The medical staff took part in a social action. They took the side of the protestors and started politically talking. They even started protesting. They also treated injured demonstrators. One point of view is from a medic. His point of view is social justice, he backs the protestors. He believe that the government is savage and cruel. "That day changed my life, I felt bad seeing my own people treated like animals. He believe this because he sees his people being treated like animals by the government. He values respect and equality for his people. In retaliation the military blocked off the hospital. Which meant that the hurt and dying were unable to get in and get help. They turned the hospital into a military prison. As it was seen as an anti–governmental hub. Doctors and nurses were raped, beaten, arrested, jailed and tortured. 20 doctors and nurses were sentenced for 15 years in jail. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Between broken bones, the pieces of the pearl's cracked skull lie in sand and rubble." A quote from the Bahrain Observer describes the destruction of the Pearl Roundabout. The king then tried to perform the act of "Damnatio Memoriae," which is translated from Latin as the condemnation of memory. Damnatio Memoriae means that all images are destroyed of a person thats been decreed by the government as an enemy of the state. Which makes Pearl Roundabout an enemy of the state. The king had postcards that had the Pearl Roundabout on them and 500 fils coins which featured Pearl Roundabout removed from public access. He also decreed that Pearl Roundabout was to be called by it's official name; GCC Roundabout or Dowar Majilis Al Ta'awon. To this day Pearl Roundabout is still inaccessible due to roads to it being blocked by riot police vans and soldiers. It is now referred to as Al–Farooq ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
