The Benefits Of College Education And Student Loan Debt
College expenses have been very costly that student can not afford to even attend college HO, J.D In
the article College Education and Student Loan Debt: An overview, he stated, "the National Center
for education statistics reports an average tuition of 25,409 for the 2014–15 academic year at four–
year colleges and universities." It's amazing how costly it is to get an education. Where many
questions, Should the amount of wealth you make determine whether you attend college or not.?
Many students who are attending college are in financial burden. Every year tuition expenses are
increasing, every individual that is thinking of going college goes through the financial struggle. As
many think of a question of how much income they need to pay college tuition.? In regard to
making their college life, usually, the student tends to go to school and work. although, going school
and working becomes the habit, but the student will have a dangerous effect on their study. They
would have less time to study and take a rest. Education has given many an opportunity to change
the world and taught people to save other peoples lives. Now our world has doctors, pilots,
engineers, scientist and much more that people are not seeing. The life cycle of humans is amazing
where we lose another and get even smarter and betters. In this cycle, many have not have gotten an
opportunity to show the talent because of college tuitions rising every year. There have been
different college grants and some

Piedmont University: A Managerial Accounting Case Study
PIEDMONT UNIVERSITY:
A Managerial Accounting Case Study
Introduction
The case of Piedmont University discusses fallouts related to the use of quasi–endowment funds by
the principal which is supposed to be legally prohibited thus resulted the university to experience
financial crisis including declining of enrollments and consequently escalating of cost incurred and
so to possibly augment from the loss, the university hired Hugh Scott as the new President. The new
President established measures to turn around the situation by increasing tuition fees and stop hiring
so as not to shoot up cost further that resulted to a small operating surplus after almost two years.
Amidst the President's attempt to recover the university's state, Neil Malcolm, an alumnus offered
his help to audit the school and make some recommendations that would inhibit the school from
fallout, again. Malcolm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inter–competition between centers may occur and will result to a loss on other's end thus the
President must have robust governance cleverness as to fathom conflict between two or more
centers and create possible proactive policies and defining center's responsibilities. On the other
hand, some centers may be essential on the goals and objectives of the university despite being at
loss.
Question # 3 – What are the alternatives to a profit center approach? There are numbers of possible
alternatives to a profit center approach that will still keep the university's longevity like by linking
school activities to the goals of the university while supporting quality of education through set of
performance measures that would keep each department perform at peek and still having the
appropriate cost allocation so as to understand fully the importance, functions and viability of each
department.
Question # 4 – Assuming that most of the issues could be resolved to your satisfaction, would you
recommend that the profit center idea be adopted, or is there an alternative that you would

What Makes Your Dream Job?
What is your dream job? As an IT major, my dream job would be to work for an innovative
company such as Verizon Communications. Verizon specializes in cell phone and internet services.
The company says their mission is to "enable people and businesses to communicate with each
other. [They] are also committed to providing full and open communication with our customers,
employees and investors." Verizon, which employs approximately 177,900 people, has been named
one of the top 100 companies for women by Working Mother 's Magazine for the past 14 years. As a
woman, I feel Verizon would be a beneficial company to work at because of their generous work life
policies, their inclusiveness towards women, and their opportunities for advancement. The company
offers maternity leave for both a live birth or adoption. The length and pay of this maternity leave
varies based on job position but it is generally longer than eight weeks and is fully paid. This is
wonderful given that 3.3 weeks at just 33% pay is the national average among American women
who were even able to receive leave. Additionally, new fathers are generally allowed paternity leave
so they can spend time with their newborns and distribute the childbearing burden more equally
across gender lines. This generous policy must be one of the main reasons that women rate Verizon
as one of the top companies to work at.
Once mothers return from maternity leave, Verizon continues to offer generous benefits that help

Eliminating Tuition Essay
In today' society, in order to be successful people is told that they must go to post– secondary and
get a degree. With the average tuition cost for a four year undergraduate is $5,959 (statistics
Canada,2014), for the 2014 to 2015 school year, most people cannot afford to pay that tuition out of
pocket. The Canadian and Province governments offer student loans for students but that puts them
heavily into debt. The average student debt is between $24,000 and $27,000 (Sagan, 2014, 5). The
best way to help students get a good education, so that they can go far in life is to eliminate tuition
costs at post–secondary intuitions. Eliminating tuition cost would be very beneficial to students, but
there are many different ways of eliminating tuition, in Ontario they are using the grant system,
France and Germany also used a different way of eliminating tuition. Eliminating tuition though the

By using the grant system there is less impact on tax payers. If we were to use a system like
Germany were the government funded the universities that would put a huge burden on tax payers.
The money would have to come from tax payers or the money would have to come from somewhere
else in our budget. This would mean that some other department would suffer like healthcare or
another government agency. The government already has money set aside in the yearly budget for
student loans if we used the grant system the money is already there. It does not cost Canada any
extra money. Because of trying to implement capped tuition fees, some students might not have to
take a grant or they might not have to take a full grant. If not all students had to take a grant or they
did not need a full grant this would mean that there would be more grant money for other students. I
think this is the best system for eliminating tuition

Naplan Case
Governments always have the demand from the electorate for information which to foundation
decisions and schools are no different. They have taken the tests a step further – using the results to
publish a website ranking schools against those of a similar nature. There is the talk of expanding
the service to hospitals and child care centers. The issue is whether the indicators tested in NAPLAN
are the right ones on which to base judgment?
Critics say that all NAPLAN tells us are students with a higher starting base of skill in absolute
terms outperforming those from a lower starting point. The difficulty with one–off statistics is they

Even if you are satisfied with the marks secured by him in this subject, these private tuitions can
enable him to score better marks in the subject. For instance, if your child is scoring an average
mark of 60% in chemistry, a private tuition for this subject will enable him to score around 80% or
even higher marks. This is because children can get individual attention in these private classes,
rather than in schools since the student strength is lesser. Even if they get the larger number of
students enrolled, they group the children into smaller groups in such a way that individual attention
can be offered to each one of them. Some children might be introvert and they cannot discuss their
problem with their school teacher and send these children to private chemistry tuition will surely

College Versus In-State Tuition
As the prices of college are rising students and parents question themselves about college, is it really
worth it to spend thousands of dollars for their kids to get a higher education. The prices differ for
different students. Every college has a different price, whether it's in–state or out–of state, if they are
international students, a student with DACA, or just an undocumented students.
There's a huge difference within in–state colleges and out–of state colleges. The difference is that
in–state colleges are for those students that are residents of that state. For example, a student living
in Pueblo, Colorado who is going to the University of Northern Colorado can qualify for in–state
tuition because they are residents of Colorado.Sometimes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

borrowers on a 10–year track to pay off their debt... average bachelor's degree holder takes 21 years

How To Play Football Persuasive Essay
Imagine sitting at the table of Clemson university, Coach Dabo Swinney is explaining the whole
offer for you to play football for his school. He lists off a starting spot, and the school paying for a
quarter of your tuition as now he states the classes you must take at that school. The thought process
would flow through your head. You sign the papers and a month later you are in practice and
training gyms working out and working your tail off to be the best in the nation. You work six hours
a day, five days a week. A few months later the season ends and it ends in your favor, national

As a pro athlete you get paid to play sports but as a college athlete you get paid for nothing maybe a
couple thousand off a tuition fee but these students are grinding to become better players day in and
day out trying to get the results they want. For example one of the players in the video is a NFL
running back today Robert Turbin plays for the Indianapolis Colts and and through college was not
paid a dime for producing publicity and wins for the program and making them money. Considering
all the money colleges make from student tuition you would think they would be able to cough up a
couple thousand for their players.
This is why I believe college athletes should get paid because they need financial support for the
future, should they be paid for more than just their scholarship but the work the ut in on the field and
in the classroom.Lastly to be honest the players do all the work meanwhile the coaches get paid
millions of dollars to do nothing but yell and make a game plan. I don't know if this changed your

Out-Of-State Tuition
Draft: Making Dreams a Reality The amount of students that attend an out–of–state university for
college is about 13.7% ("Percentage of Out–of–State Students at Public Universities"). This statistic
is remarkably low, considering the growing amount of young adults attending college. In–state
tuition is expensive for most citizens, as out–of–state costs are completely unaffordable. Out–of–
state tuition costs can easily triple the amount of in–state costs, meaning most students find
themselves attending an in–state university without a second thought. The reason for these high out–
of–state tuition fees is due to the state government believing that these extra costs are necessary
because of tax dollars. State schools are funded by the state's ... Show more content on

Students prefer to attend school out–of–state may be doing so for the reason of atmosphere. The
college of ones dreams may not be in the state they currently reside, it could be in a state that's three
thousand miles away. Experiencing "new foods, different geography, and perhaps a climate change"
may be exactly what the student wants to experience when gathering an education (Baron). Another
thing a student wants to engage in when attending college is independence. Independence may be a
very important quality when choosing a school. Being responsible for things such as "schedules,
making and keeping appointments, shopping, healthy eating, laundry, and budgeting" can give
students higher confidence levels which will increase the college experience. The temptation of
driving home with one's laundry basket to make one's mom do their laundry will decrease as the
miles from home increase, forcing students to become more confident and independent. The out–of–
state experience for a college student may be the best part of attending college. The college three
thousand miles away can be more "alluring, to be able to spread their wings, especially if their
college of choice holds the lure of prestige" causing the out–of–state college to be desirable to any
student looking to attend a university of any kind

Repeal The Dream Act Of State Tuition Rates At Public...
The first state to adopt a law allowing undocumented immigrants to pay in–state tuition rates at
public universities was Texas. This law is so–called "The Dream Act." To qualify for this act an
immigrant student must have graduated high school or received a GED in Texas, must live in the
state for three years, and sign an affidavit confirming that they are seeking legal residency.
According to the Education Commission of the States, since 2001, Washington, Utah, Oklahoma,
New York, New Mexico, Kansas, Illinois, and California have adopted similar laws. Some
conservative Texas legislators have filed to repeal The Dream Act. Their opinion is that it is unfair to
legal U.S. citizens from other states that are required to pay out–of–state tuition. This act also
requires taxpayers to pay higher education costs for undocumented immigrants. Others argue that
many come to America through no choice because their parents illegally came to the country. They
believe it is unfair to punish the students for their parents' decisions. Bills that have tried to take
away the Texas Dream Act have failed thus far. ("Tribpedia: Dream Act | The Texas Tribune." The
Texas Tribune. N.p., n.d. Web. 24 July 2015.)1

immigrants within their borders. The states can regulate health and welfare services and business

Free Tuition And The United States Essay
Free tuition for colleges is a topic that has come up a lot lately in the United States. Especially in the
beginning of this year, when the democratic race was in place, Bernie Sanders started making
tuition–free colleges one of his campaign points. While there are some that seem to neglect the idea
of free tuition, the majority will agree that if not free at least it should be affordable. This topic is a
very interesting one because it provides fascinating facts on both sides of the spectrum. One thing
people argue against free tuition is that the United States has around 300 million people in
population and it could not possibly keep up with the increase in college attendance and cost. On the
other hand free tuition in colleges is relative common in almost every first world country around the
world and even second and third world countries. Which leaves us to determine that it is not only
possible for government to be responsible for education but it seems to be the norm around the
world except in the United States. I think that colleges should be tuition free. Community colleges
should be funded by the government and the government should not only be responsible in
providing free tuition to its citizens but take pride that its citizens have access to free education,
making its society an educated one. While researching this topic I came upon a very interesting
article; Why tuition free College Makes Sense. The author, Lawrence S. Wittner, explains briefly the

Pros And Cons Of Free College
The prospect of attending college can be both exciting and disconcerting, particularly given the
current cost of tuition. "Free college programs that cover students' tuition are a step toward
addressing issues of the cost of higher education, but leave questions of quality unanswered"
(Bayer). Which means free tuition for a student that doesn't have financial aid assisting them. I
believe college should be free within the United States. Although there are states with "free"college
or some kind of program to assists students in ; I believe all the states should provide free college
for students. This being said, college should be free for students; no matter their race, religion, or
sex. They would only be responsible for utilities and whatever else they chose to buy. Tution would
essentially be paid by taxpayers within the state. Students can't afford tuition and expenses due to
them not making enough money at their part time job while going to school full–time. Even if a
student could afford the tuition they still would not have enough to cover their other expenses. It is
pretty impractical to expect full time college students to work and pay for college tuition
simultaneously. How could you expect a full–time students to work full– time hours and live
comfortably? Students should be able to focus on school rather than worry about how they will be
able to afford college the next semester. Furthermore, there would allow more graduates and obtain
jobs in the community.

High Education Vs. Out Of State Tuition
Bill Bennett said of higher education, " The higher amount you put into high
education, at the federal level particularly, the more the price of high education rises. It's
the dog that never catches its tail." Bennett asserts that while the prices of education are
rising, yet they are not going to start coming down because of the amount the government
is putting in. The average student leaves college with an average of $35,000 of debt.
Because of this debt, students have to put off major life decisions like starting a family or
buying a house because of the debt they have accumulated from their college years. The
mountain of college debt left upon student can be overcome with the help of a parent's

student's financial situation is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid also known as

As a parent if you want to save for your students future with a college fund, begin
saving for your child's education when they are at a young age rather than their senior
year. To save for your student's college future don't just invest your money into a regular
savings account, consider a 529–College Plan. Four out of ten parents are saving for their
child's future, and of those parents about 69 percent of those parents use only a single type
of college saving vehicle: a general savings account. However, at the time parents are
saving money for their child's future, it may seem that a savings account is the best option
for the future, but the best way to save for college, is to put money into a 529 college saving

In-State Tuition Decisions
Today there are twenty states that offer in–state tuition for unauthorized illegal immigrants. The path
to becoming such states has been a difficult one; furthermore, only sixteen of these states have
achieved in–state tuition for illegal immigrants by taking legislative action. The other four states
allowed the universities autonomy developing their own system and guidelines (Undocumented,
2014). Arguments from opposing side generate authoritative statements. The opposing voices argue
in–state tuition is only a magnet for illegal immigrants and unfair for American students from other
states to pay higher tuition than illegal aliens. Supporters claim in–state tuition opens a door to a
more educated society and ultimately states should protect the investment already made since
childhood. In my opinion immigrants should be offered opportunities, but not at the expense of
others.
In–state tuition decisions can be tied to the Supreme Court case of Plyer v. Doe in 1986. In this
landmark decision the Supreme Court overturned a Texas statute denying public education funding
to schools for alien children. Justice William Brennan, in the majority opinion, employed the
Fourteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause when concluding that, "a state could not enact a
discriminatory classification by defining a disfavored group as nonresident" (Vargas, 2011). Oddly
enough Texas was the first state to pass legislation granting in–state tuition under Rick Perry. After
Texas, other states

Dana Hall College Essay
Dana–Hall, is a well known and respected all–girl boarding and day school (6–12 grade) competing
in a time period in which social attitudes towards single sex education is shrinking. Measures of
demographics and social trends indicate a clear shift towards a co–educational school environment.
This new reality, where demand is decreasing faster than supply, results in declining numbers of
potential female applicants over which the last four all–girl boarding and day schools are
aggressively competing to maintain continues enrolment figures. Other former all–girl schools have

Full enrolment implied a student body of approximately 450; however, Dana–Hall didn't experience
such a case since the 1980s (numbers reaching not more than 374). Opening the doors to male
applicants would fill the empty/missing positions and push financial performance to full capacity.
Dana–Hall could also consider a merger with a boy's school. However, it is unlikely that the institute
will find a partnership as merger opportunities dried up since 1971, when many single–sex schools
were moving towards co–education. Today only two all–boys institutes remain in the area but if one
of them would be interested, a merger providing financial and operational synergies would
definitely help Dana–Hall out of its crisis.
Following this strategy, Dana–Hall not only opens the door for male applicants but also for female
applicants who prefer gender integrated schools, thereby securing the likelihood of full enrolment at
all times.
However, going against its sole mission could be a slap in the face for some stakeholders, especially
to those who believe that a single–sex environment works well for their daughters. This could hurt
Dana–Halls' performance and reputation in away that some parents would move their daughters to
the other competing all–girl institutes.

Rising College Tuition
Tuition on the Rise: A Cause of Turmoil Today colleges are growing more and more necessary for
attaining a solid path towards a successful career, yet the rapidly increasing cost of tuition is driving
students away from their dream of attending college, due to the preposterous amount of money that
is now being demanded by colleges across the nation and world as a whole. It is sad to see students
being turned away from a successful future due to the money–hungry nature of the universities that
dot the globe. More and more impossible it is becoming to have a "rags–to–riches" scenario that
used to highlight the American Dream, as if a student doesn't have the riches to afford a higher
education and the tuition that is drug upon its coattails, then our society is doomed to be clothed in
rags forever, unless major changes are brought about to restructure and end the indefatigable growth
of tuition rates across the board. The tuition increases have come in response to the lack of federal
funding to universities, leading them to find their own way to provide for their upkeep. "Recent
increases in university tuition fees are part of a new entrepreneurial trend in higher education in
which institutions are expected to generate more of their own revenue" (Quirke). The universities
have decided that since they can no longer look towards federal funds to fuel their costs of
maintenance and revenue, they must find a new route towards attaining much needed funds, and
they have chosen to

Poverty in Arkansas
The state of Arkansas is in poverty because of low rates and wages verses cost of living. However,
this can be improved by people in our state having better job choices and better pay. The reason for
low job rates and wages is that you have to be bilingual to get a job, you have to get a good
education and employers aren't able to hire as many people to work for them. All of this stuff
combined with the cost of living causes poverty. This chart represents the percentage of people 17 to
20 with a high school diploma who are not in school or working and 21 to 24 year–olds with a
bachelor's degree who are not in school or working ("Idle Youth").
First it's hard to get a job because so many places expect you to be bilingual. In this area most
employers prefer you to be able to speak English and Spanish. In 2011–2012 the percentage of
English language learners was 14% (National Center for Education Statistics). It is because of that
percentage that it is understandable that employers would want to hire people that can speak a
second language. Even with bilingual people in such high demand most colleges don't require a
second language to graduate (Grove). There are many solutions to this problem, but having
immigrants learn English to get citizenship and having colleges require a second language to
graduate are two easy

My respect for education and inclination towards applied science drove me to opt for mathematics,

In-State Tuition
The American dream has always been described as coming to America and making a better life and
future for yourself and for your family. Throughout the years a better future has been mostly
achieved by receiving a college degree stating that one has completed the required courses in their
field in order to be accepted for employment. There are many taxes and fees each semester for
community colleges and universities, more or less depending on the college, but each has an in–state
and out of state tuition. Allowing undocumented immigrants, the right to in–state tuition at
community colleges and universities is a controversial topic and definitely something to be
researched. Who are we to say that undocumented immigrants cannot have the freedom ... Show

Most undocumented immigrants came to America as children and have grown up here most, if not
all, of their lives and denying them the chance to continue their education would not be fair. As
mentioned above, one of the requirements to be accepted into a college and not have to pay extra is
to graduate from a high school within the same state. According to the National Conference of State
Legislatures, each year over 1.2 million students drop out of high school with over half of them
being minorities (2015). Young adults dropping out of school has increased crime in our cities as
well as an increase in state welfare, ultimately costing the state more. If the minorities have the same
chances as everyone else in this country, they would be more likely to continue with their education
and receive a better job to help improve the economy. In contrast, many argue that undocumented
immigrants paying a cheaper rate for tuition are taking resources away from those that are legal
citizens. There are an estimated 4.4 million undocumented immigrants in America (Cortes 2013). It
may cost more in tax to pay for their education, and there is a high chance that some immigrants will
take the money back to their countries and not support the economy within that state. There is no
way to weed out those who truly want to stay in America and those who plan to receive their
education and leave. With that said, if a person wants to improve their life, earn a degree and make a
better income to provide for their family what is stopping them from taking the right steps to
become a legal citizen? An immigrant can come to America and make the decision to go through the
process to become a legal citizen. Once they are a legal citizen there should be no concern weather
or not the in–state or out–of–district fee should be applied to an undocumented immigrant. They

Life At Home Recovering Before It Is Safe For Resume Work
Many times after injuries or medical procedures, one is required to spend time at home recovering
before it is safe to resume work. In the Army, this recovery leave is non–chargeable and a physician
decides the length of recovery. The first form of leave is called quarters and is typically 24 to 36
hours. Quarters is typically prescribed to soldiers that have infectious diseases such as the flu. When
a Soldier is given quarters they must stay at home in order to mitigate the spread of the disease and
to allow them to rest and recover. The second form of medical leave is called convalescence leave.
Convalescence leave is prescribed by a physician following a surgical procedure to allow a soldier
to recover and is also non–chargeable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Probably one of the biggest aspects of the Army's Total Compensation plan is the free medical
coverage provided to all soldiers. I cannot think of another organization that offers a totally cost free
medical package for its employees. Also, as I mentioned earlier, the leadership in the Army is very
supportive of soldiers attending medical appointments in order to maintain a high level of medical
readiness, which is a critical aspect of the Army being able to conduct its mission. Soldiers do not
see a physician when they are injured or ill initially. The first line of medical screening includes unit
medical personnel, which includes medics and the unit physician's assistant. If it is determined that
the soldier will require treatment or diagnosis from a physician they are then referred to a doctor.
This is a key way that the Army saves money on its no cost medical coverage. By not having a
soldier be seen by a physician immediately and having a lower ranking medic, who gets paid much
less, conduct the initial assessment and possibly remedy the situation, the Army save substantial
money. Of course, if a soldier is critically injured or ill they can always go to the military installation
emergency room for treatment or call 911 for assistance. Depending on the nature of the injury or
illness, and whether or not the appropriate physician or specialist is available at the military
installation, a soldier

Causes Of Dropouts In The UAE
"Should I really drop out?" he sadly said "I think have no other choice, besides I cannot even afford
it" In the recent years of UAE, a good amount of students are dropping out of universities. Why are
the classes getting empty? Where are the students leaving? Setting the education off the priorities is
something normal now in the UAE, but from a logical point of view it should not be normal. It is
safe to say that increase rate of dropouts can be added to the list of problems that UAE faces. For
instance, the American University of Sharjah once showed that 30% of students drop out after the
freshmen year, and this is just one university out of many in the UAE. There are many different
causes behind this problem for sure. The most important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In addition, Analysts polled by Reuters in 2014 showed that the average inflation in the UAE would
rise by 2.5 percent in 2014, 2.7 percent 2015, and expected to accelerate more in the incoming years
("UAE Inflation," 2014, para. 2). In other words, inflation is striking in all over UAE, and paying
for tuition fees is becoming harder than ever. For example, the American University of Sharjah
office of registrar stated on the undergraduate catalog of 2010–2011 that the tuition fee per semester
is approximately 37,000 dhs whereas the tuition fee per semester of 2016–2017 is about 50,000 dhs.
A probable reason why students are dropping out is they come from a poor financial background,
where the parents find some difficulties to pay the tuition fees, or they have other expenses to
commit to such as rents, debts, and regular consumptions. Furthermore, a second reason could be
the lack of earning scholarships or financial aids. In the recent years, universities lean towards to be
pickier in the admission of the scholarships; as a result, students are forced to drop out as they rely
fully on the scholarships. In my case, I had the same problem and I was not able to maintain the
scholarship. I was about to drop out, but thank god I did

A Study On The Education System
Albert Einstein, an incredible scientist once stated to "not judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree".
Yet, in our education system we "judge" every student's ability to function at a four–year university
daily. When taking an exam we are all given the same aptitude exams, university standards or even
the notorious EPT/ELM exam for a CSU. Having the same exam diminishes the idea of a specialty
being shown through oneself. In our world today, we have many individuals with a variety of
specialties contributing to the creation of a society. Many successful people have careers in a field
that requires only knowledge in what they work in and the fundamentals of the requisites they may
have. Teachers or parents might argue how early start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The accuracy of the EPT/ELM exam might be accurate in what shows on the scantron, but not what
the student really specializes in or knows. Like an athlete getting a scholarship to a school, every
student should have the potential of being admitted to a school for what they are best at. With the
idea of having every student meet the same guidelines, a university will never meet its full potential
because of the lack of originality in the students. The Early Start program is based off these
assumptions of a student 's potential; which is why the program should be abolished or have it
running for students as an option. Some may argue that if the student was accepted to the university,
it must imply the student has a specialty. Truth of the matter is that 50% of students go in undeclared
or end up changing the intended major; which can only portray how the student does not know what
they are best at or what they have a passion for. Students today are focused solely on meeting the
numbers, guidelines and standards, that they forget why they go to school in the first place; to get a
career they love. In addition to not having the student's specialty shine, the amount of time given at
an Early Start program is by far too short for students to actually learn. With only six weeks to

I Failed Two Accounting Courses
SMO411 Term Paper

Introduction
Last year, I failed two accounting courses which were 400 levels. I tried to retake one of the courses
because my dad was pressuring me so hard that I should be able to understand much better but I still
could not understand the concepts and I found it really hard to catch up with the class. Since this
class was a prerequisite class for my major, I was very frustrated. I was getting so much stress from
my dad and the course that I had to retake. However, several days before I had to take a midterm, I
was overwhelmed and I was not ready to take an exam. I decided to withdraw from a course because
there was no way that I could handle 400 level accounting courses. Since I failed two accounting
courses before, I got an academic probation due to low grades. My dad thought that I was still
retaking one of the accounting courses. When I told him that I withdrew from a course, he was very
mad because I did not discuss this issue with him. I did not know why I had to discuss with him
while I was very stressed out. It was a tough decision for me to withdraw from a course. I had to
discuss with him about changing my major since I was in my last year. Preparation Stage
The purpose of this stage is to help me use the information to prepare what can be my options if the
negotiation goes well or does not go well. Also, preparation stage also helps me to guess what the
other party's options can be and try to negotiate much better.

Should State Tuition Be Regulated?
Should State Tuition be Regulated?
In 2003, the 78th Legislature of Texas passed House Bill (HB) 3015, also known as the "Tuition
Deregulation" bill. This bill, which took effect on September 1, 2003, transferred authority over the
regulation of tuition of state universities from the Texas Legislature to the University Board of
Regents. This exchange decreased state funding for Texas Universities, but allowed the individual
institutions to compensate for the deficit by increasing tuition. This authority was exercised liberally
and the resulting tuition cost burdens have been passed onto Texan families3. When regulation over
tuition was under the authority of the legislature, elected officials were mindful of the concerns of
their student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before 2003, Texas tuition ranked above the national average for tuition rates, but during 2003, after
(HB) 3015 took effect, there was a dramatic rise in tuition prices which marked a significant
departure from the tuition prices of the previous years. This rapid rate of increase in tuition has been
difficult for middle and lower class students to adjust to. Increasingly, students are forced to find
alternate means to finance their education.
Unfortunately, even though tuition funding from the state has improved in recent years, with the
unprecedented rise in costs of tuition burdening students, state funding has become inadequate to
compensate for the increased costs. A graph from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board,
shows that the cost of attendance has risen substantially higher than the aggregate financial aid
funds. The impact of tuition increase has made higher education an unaffordable luxury to many
financially disadvantaged citizens, the result of which will have widespread consequences for
students and Texas as a whole.
Impact on Students
The impact of higher tuition rates on students has been significant in that the burden of paying for
college has fallen increasingly on them. Furthermore, it is not only the cost of tuition that is rising.
Students are also faced with rising costs of housing, textbooks, and other essential expenses
associated with attending college. From December 2001 to November 2010,

should be something you chose based on how good the school is. To fix this problem you could
either have a universal tax that gives money to all schools in America this way schools have to give
everyone who wants to go to their school pay the same cost. The other idea I have to fix this

Lowering Tuition at Iowa State University Essays
Lowering Tuition at Iowa State University
The Background of the Costs of Tuition at Iowa State University
Iowa State University is a land grant school which, among other things, means that the university
gets money from the state of Iowa from the taxes that residents pay to the state. Because of this in
state residents who choose to go to the university do not have to pay a large amount of money while
out–of–state residents have to pay almost twice as much. Iowa State University does not have
reciprocity, meaning that even residents from the surrounding states, Minnesota, Illinois, etc., have
to pay full out–of–state tuition. Out–of– state residents have to pay about $9000 a year for tuition,
while Iowa residents pay only about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The students that come to Iowa State are not all Iowa residents. The out–of–state residents are the
ones who have to pay a great deal of money to attend the university. These students should not feel
that many of the doors to the kind of education they would like have been shut in their face because
of the amount of money it costs to attend many universities. To help solve many problems for out–
of–state students, their tuition for attending Iowa State University should be set around $5000. By
setting it at an amount that is only about $3000 less than the present out–of–state tuition it will make
it much more affordable for the students and the University will not lose money. Needs for
Changing the Tuition at ISU
The needs for the decrease in out–of–state tuition at the university can be seen in several areas, such
as the community diversity, availability of education to all, and the income based discrimination of
students. Iowa State university does not have a very diverse community. During the 1998–1999

Many of the Iowa residents are from the surrounding area of Ames, IA, where Iowa State is located.

The Rise Of College Tuition
In order to improve every aspect of life, especially financially; just having a high school diploma
does not meet the requirements that society itself is looking for to accomplish one 's American
Dream. Everyone desires and dream to go to college with the hope to be successful; but with the fact
that the skyrocketing college tuition is increasing every year might turn those dreams into
nightmares. There are many research have been proven that the main factors which cause the high
cost of postsecondary education was the lack of funding from government, increase of students as
well the increase of administrators. But beside those given facts, there are seems to be more deep
hidden truth that most college students and their families have no ideas about it. Numerous of
debates seem to argue about the reasons that cause the rise of college tuition was because the most
money goes to athletics sport teams, the luxury accommodations for students as well as unnecessary
programs and many seven–figure administrator. In our society, sport carries an important role
because it could bring so many positive impacts on human such as development of teamwork,
communication skills and create opportunity for entertainment as well as many businesses around
the world. However, looking at the negative side, sport can cost a huge amount of money and it
could create significant negative effects on education, specifically universities in various ways.

However, what if someone who has the right intentions, great potential, and inexhaustible

News & World Report, a multi–platform news publisher with an authenticated annual ranking of
colleges says that the average student loan debt by the end of their senior year is quickly
approaching $30,000 and in some states beyond that amount. At the University of California,

It also involves free or reduced tuition for students and assistance with job placement. Such
programs are not new and are popular among countries with the underdeveloped economy.
However, an issue of young and middle–aged adults concentrating in areas with more prosper

measure, states with the underdeveloped economy, such as Michigan, Mississippi, Montana undergo
the same process (Fox 8). The issue of abandoned or underpopulated areas is more drastic than it
seems like. If authorities will not take any action, these places do not stand a chance to develop
anytime soon. Which will result in places with a fully developed economy like California, Colorado,
and New York to become overpopulated and unable to provide jobs for all (Fox 8). One of the ways
to deal with this issue is to follow the example of Bulgarian policy by not only promotion of
underdeveloped areas' resources but also to target them towards different groups divided by interest
and qualification. For example, many of the economically underdeveloped states have land that can
be used for farming, factories that have been closed as a result of inflation and bankruptcy. By
promoting education targeted for the jobs in these fields–especially if the tuition fee policy takes

In addition to freedom and food, the other difference between living at home and living away from

Diverty And Poverty In Haiti
UCI Haiti "Manje? Manje?" With empty, open hands and pleading eyes, I am asked by a five year
old Haitian if I have any food. His rounded stomach is malnourished from eating mud pies. It is mid
morning, when this child should be in school, but instead he is at home. In the background, his mom
and three siblings outside their one–room house with mud floors and walls, a thatch roof, and open
windows. The poverty level in Haiti is at a heartbreaking high which can be lessened by becoming
educated and acting on the problem so Haitians in need can reap major benefits. Hunger,
homelessness, poverty, and lack of education grip the entire country of Haiti. More than two million
Haitians are homeless. That number significantly rose when an earthquake struck the island in 2010.
Because so many people lost their homes in the earthquake, IDP (internally displaced people) camps
were set up for those who did not have adequate shelter. (Last two sentences: Amnesty.org)
However, IDP camps are randomly evacuated, leaving thousands of people instantly homeless and
on their own. Most of the population lives in rural areas. A majority of the houses are two room huts
with mud walls and floors. The roofs are thatched with grasses and palm leaves or covered with
sheet metal if it can be afforded. The lack of housing or quality of housing leads to many grumbling
stomachs. Many Haitians are malnourished and starving. It is reported that over 100,000 children
under the age of five suffer from

  • 5. What Makes Your Dream Job? What is your dream job? As an IT major, my dream job would be to work for an innovative company such as Verizon Communications. Verizon specializes in cell phone and internet services. The company says their mission is to "enable people and businesses to communicate with each other. [They] are also committed to providing full and open communication with our customers, employees and investors." Verizon, which employs approximately 177,900 people, has been named one of the top 100 companies for women by Working Mother 's Magazine for the past 14 years. As a woman, I feel Verizon would be a beneficial company to work at because of their generous work life policies, their inclusiveness towards women, and their opportunities for advancement. The company offers maternity leave for both a live birth or adoption. The length and pay of this maternity leave varies based on job position but it is generally longer than eight weeks and is fully paid. This is wonderful given that 3.3 weeks at just 33% pay is the national average among American women who were even able to receive leave. Additionally, new fathers are generally allowed paternity leave so they can spend time with their newborns and distribute the childbearing burden more equally across gender lines. This generous policy must be one of the main reasons that women rate Verizon as one of the top companies to work at. Once mothers return from maternity leave, Verizon continues to offer generous benefits that help their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Eliminating Tuition Essay In today' society, in order to be successful people is told that they must go to post– secondary and get a degree. With the average tuition cost for a four year undergraduate is $5,959 (statistics Canada,2014), for the 2014 to 2015 school year, most people cannot afford to pay that tuition out of pocket. The Canadian and Province governments offer student loans for students but that puts them heavily into debt. The average student debt is between $24,000 and $27,000 (Sagan, 2014, 5). The best way to help students get a good education, so that they can go far in life is to eliminate tuition costs at post–secondary intuitions. Eliminating tuition cost would be very beneficial to students, but there are many different ways of eliminating tuition, in Ontario they are using the grant system, France and Germany also used a different way of eliminating tuition. Eliminating tuition though the grant system greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By using the grant system there is less impact on tax payers. If we were to use a system like Germany were the government funded the universities that would put a huge burden on tax payers. The money would have to come from tax payers or the money would have to come from somewhere else in our budget. This would mean that some other department would suffer like healthcare or another government agency. The government already has money set aside in the yearly budget for student loans if we used the grant system the money is already there. It does not cost Canada any extra money. Because of trying to implement capped tuition fees, some students might not have to take a grant or they might not have to take a full grant. If not all students had to take a grant or they did not need a full grant this would mean that there would be more grant money for other students. For instance, if your child is scoring an average mark of 60% in chemistry, a private tuition for this subject will enable him to score around 80% or even higher marks. This is because children can get individual attention in these private classes, rather than in schools since the student strength is lesser. Even if they get the larger number of students enrolled, they group the children into smaller groups in such a way that individual attention can be offered to each one of them. This statistic is remarkably low, considering the growing amount of young adults attending college. In–state tuition is expensive for most citizens, as out–of–state costs are completely unaffordable. Out–of– state tuition costs can easily triple the amount of in–state costs, meaning most students find themselves attending an in–state university without a second thought. The reason for these high out– of–state tuition fees is due to the state government believing that these extra costs are necessary because of tax dollars. State schools are funded by the state's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Students prefer to attend school out–of–state may be doing so for the reason of atmosphere. The college of ones dreams may not be in the state they currently reside, it could be in a state that's three thousand miles away. Experiencing "new foods, different geography, and perhaps a climate change" may be exactly what the student wants to experience when gathering an education (Baron). Another thing a student wants to engage in when attending college is independence. Independence may be a very important quality when choosing a school. Being responsible for things such as "schedules, making and keeping appointments, shopping, healthy eating, laundry, and budgeting" can give students higher confidence levels which will increase the college experience. The temptation of driving home with one's laundry basket to make one's mom do their laundry will decrease as the miles from home increase, forcing students to become more confident and independent. The out–of– state experience for a college student may be the best part of attending college. The college three thousand miles away can be more "alluring, to be able to spread their wings, especially if their college of choice holds the lure of prestige" causing the out–of–state college to be desirable to any student looking to attend a university of any kind ... • 19. Repeal The Dream Act Of State Tuition Rates At Public... The first state to adopt a law allowing undocumented immigrants to pay in–state tuition rates at public universities was Texas. This law is so–called "The Dream Act." To qualify for this act an immigrant student must have graduated high school or received a GED in Texas, must live in the state for three years, and sign an affidavit confirming that they are seeking legal residency. According to the Education Commission of the States, since 2001, Washington, Utah, Oklahoma, New York, New Mexico, Kansas, Illinois, and California have adopted similar laws. Some conservative Texas legislators have filed to repeal The Dream Act. Their opinion is that it is unfair to legal U.S. citizens from other states that are required to pay out–of–state tuition. This act also requires taxpayers to pay higher education costs for undocumented immigrants. Others argue that many come to America through no choice because their parents illegally came to the country. They believe it is unfair to punish the students for their parents' decisions. Bills that have tried to take away the Texas Dream Act have failed thus far. ("Tribpedia: Dream Act | The Texas Tribune." The Texas Tribune. N.p., n.d. • 21. Free Tuition And The United States Essay Free tuition for colleges is a topic that has come up a lot lately in the United States. Especially in the beginning of this year, when the democratic race was in place, Bernie Sanders started making tuition–free colleges one of his campaign points. While there are some that seem to neglect the idea of free tuition, the majority will agree that if not free at least it should be affordable. This topic is a very interesting one because it provides fascinating facts on both sides of the spectrum. One thing people argue against free tuition is that the United States has around 300 million people in population and it could not possibly keep up with the increase in college attendance and cost. On the other hand free tuition in colleges is relative common in almost every first world country around the world and even second and third world countries. Which leaves us to determine that it is not only possible for government to be responsible for education but it seems to be the norm around the world except in the United States. I think that colleges should be tuition free. Community colleges should be funded by the government and the government should not only be responsible in providing free tuition to its citizens but take pride that its citizens have access to free education, making its society an educated one. While researching this topic I came upon a very interesting article; Why tuition free College Makes Sense. The author, Lawrence S. Wittner, explains briefly the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Pros And Cons Of Free College The prospect of attending college can be both exciting and disconcerting, particularly given the current cost of tuition. "Free college programs that cover students' tuition are a step toward addressing issues of the cost of higher education, but leave questions of quality unanswered" (Bayer). Which means free tuition for a student that doesn't have financial aid assisting them. I believe college should be free within the United States. Although there are states with "free"college or some kind of program to assists students in ; I believe all the states should provide free college for students. This being said, college should be free for students; no matter their race, religion, or sex. They would only be responsible for utilities and whatever else they chose to buy. Tution would essentially be paid by taxpayers within the state. Students can't afford tuition and expenses due to them not making enough money at their part time job while going to school full–time. Even if a student could afford the tuition they still would not have enough to cover their other expenses. It is pretty impractical to expect full time college students to work and pay for college tuition simultaneously. How could you expect a full–time students to work full– time hours and live comfortably? Students should be able to focus on school rather than worry about how they will be able to afford college the next semester. Out Of State Tuition Bill Bennett said of higher education, " The higher amount you put into high education, at the federal level particularly, the more the price of high education rises. Bennett asserts that while the prices of education are rising, yet they are not going to start coming down because of the amount the government is putting in. The average student leaves college with an average of $35,000 of debt. The path to becoming such states has been a difficult one; furthermore, only sixteen of these states have achieved in–state tuition for illegal immigrants by taking legislative action. The other four states allowed the universities autonomy developing their own system and guidelines (Undocumented, 2014). Arguments from opposing side generate authoritative statements. The opposing voices argue in–state tuition is only a magnet for illegal immigrants and unfair for American students from other states to pay higher tuition than illegal aliens. Supporters claim in–state tuition opens a door to a more educated society and ultimately states should protect the investment already made since childhood. In my opinion immigrants should be offered opportunities, but not at the expense of others. In–state tuition decisions can be tied to the Supreme Court case of Plyer v. Doe in 1986. In this landmark decision the Supreme Court overturned a Texas statute denying public education funding to schools for alien children. Justice William Brennan, in the majority opinion, employed the Fourteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause when concluding that, "a state could not enact a discriminatory classification by defining a disfavored group as nonresident" (Vargas, 2011). Oddly enough Texas was the first state to pass legislation granting in–state tuition under Rick Perry. After Texas, other states ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Measures of demographics and social trends indicate a clear shift towards a co–educational school environment. This new reality, where demand is decreasing faster than supply, results in declining numbers of potential female applicants over which the last four all–girl boarding and day schools are aggressively competing to maintain continues enrolment figures. However, it is unlikely that the institute will find a partnership as merger opportunities dried up since 1971, when many single–sex schools were moving towards co–education. Today only two all–boys institutes remain in the area but if one of them would be interested, a merger providing financial and operational synergies would definitely help Dana–Hall out of its crisis. Following this strategy, Dana–Hall not only opens the door for male applicants but also for female applicants who prefer gender integrated schools, thereby securing the likelihood of full enrolment at all times. However, going against its sole mission could be a slap in the face for some stakeholders, especially to those who believe that a single–sex environment works well for their daughters. • 32. Rising College Tuition Tuition on the Rise: A Cause of Turmoil Today colleges are growing more and more necessary for attaining a solid path towards a successful career, yet the rapidly increasing cost of tuition is driving students away from their dream of attending college, due to the preposterous amount of money that is now being demanded by colleges across the nation and world as a whole. It is sad to see students being turned away from a successful future due to the money–hungry nature of the universities that dot the globe. More and more impossible it is becoming to have a "rags–to–riches" scenario that used to highlight the American Dream, as if a student doesn't have the riches to afford a higher education and the tuition that is drug upon its coattails, then our society is doomed to be clothed in rags forever, unless major changes are brought about to restructure and end the indefatigable growth of tuition rates across the board. The tuition increases have come in response to the lack of federal funding to universities, leading them to find their own way to provide for their upkeep. "Recent increases in university tuition fees are part of a new entrepreneurial trend in higher education in which institutions are expected to generate more of their own revenue" (Quirke). The universities have decided that since they can no longer look towards federal funds to fuel their costs of maintenance and revenue, they must find a new route towards attaining much needed funds, and they have chosen to ... Poverty Of The State Of Arkansas Poverty in Arkansas Kelsie Frachiseur Comp I Mrs. Krudwig October 21, 2014 Kelsie Frachiseur Comp I Mrs. Krudwig October 13, 2014 Poverty in Arkansas The state of Arkansas is in poverty because of low rates and wages verses cost of living. However, this can be improved by people in our state having better job choices and better pay. The reason for low job rates and wages is that you have to be bilingual to get a job, you have to get a good education and employers aren't able to hire as many people to work for them. All of this stuff combined with the cost of living causes poverty. This chart represents the percentage of people 17 to 20 with a high school diploma who are not in school or working and 21 to 24 year–olds with a bachelor's degree who are not in school or working ("Idle Youth"). First it's hard to get a job because so many places expect you to be bilingual. In this area most employers prefer you to be able to speak English and Spanish. In 2011–2012 the percentage of English language learners was 14% (National Center for Education Statistics). It is because of that percentage that it is understandable that employers would want to hire people that can speak a second language. Even with bilingual people in such high demand most colleges don't require a second language to graduate (Grove). Throughout the years a better future has been mostly achieved by receiving a college degree stating that one has completed the required courses in their field in order to be accepted for employment. There are many taxes and fees each semester for community colleges and universities, more or less depending on the college, but each has an in–state and out of state tuition. Who are we to say that undocumented immigrants cannot have the freedom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most undocumented immigrants came to America as children and have grown up here most, if not all, of their lives and denying them the chance to continue their education would not be fair. As mentioned above, one of the requirements to be accepted into a college and not have to pay extra is to graduate from a high school within the same state. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, each year over 1.2 million students drop out of high school with over half of them being minorities (2015). Young adults dropping out of school has increased crime in our cities as well as an increase in state welfare, ultimately costing the state more. If the minorities have the same chances as everyone else in this country, they would be more likely to continue with their education and receive a better job to help improve the economy. In contrast, many argue that undocumented immigrants paying a cheaper rate for tuition are taking resources away from those that are legal citizens. There are an estimated 4.4 million undocumented immigrants in America (Cortes 2013). It may cost more in tax to pay for their education, and there is a high chance that some immigrants will take the money back to their countries and not support the economy within that state. There is no way to weed out those who truly want to stay in America and those who plan to receive their education and leave. With that said, if a person wants to improve their life, earn a degree and make a better income to provide for their family what is stopping them from taking the right steps to become a legal citizen? Probably one of the biggest aspects of the Army's Total Compensation plan is the free medical coverage provided to all soldiers. I cannot think of another organization that offers a totally cost free medical package for its employees. Also, as I mentioned earlier, the leadership in the Army is very supportive of soldiers attending medical appointments in order to maintain a high level of medical readiness, which is a critical aspect of the Army being able to conduct its mission. Soldiers do not see a physician when they are injured or ill initially. The first line of medical screening includes unit medical personnel, which includes medics and the unit physician's assistant. If it is determined that the soldier will require treatment or diagnosis from a physician they are then referred to a doctor. This is a key way that the Army saves money on its no cost medical coverage. By not having a soldier be seen by a physician immediately and having a lower ranking medic, who gets paid much less, conduct the initial assessment and possibly remedy the situation, the Army save substantial money. Causes Of Dropouts In The UAE "Should I really drop out?" he sadly said "I think have no other choice, besides I cannot even afford it" In the recent years of UAE, a good amount of students are dropping out of universities. Why are the classes getting empty? Where are the students leaving? Setting the education off the priorities is something normal now in the UAE, but from a logical point of view it should not be normal. It is safe to say that increase rate of dropouts can be added to the list of problems that UAE faces. In other words, inflation is striking in all over UAE, and paying for tuition fees is becoming harder than ever. A probable reason why students are dropping out is they come from a poor financial background, where the parents find some difficulties to pay the tuition fees, or they have other expenses to commit to such as rents, debts, and regular consumptions. Furthermore, a second reason could be the lack of earning scholarships or financial aids. In the recent years, universities lean towards to be pickier in the admission of the scholarships; as a result, students are forced to drop out as they rely fully on the scholarships. This exchange decreased state funding for Texas Universities, but allowed the individual institutions to compensate for the deficit by increasing tuition. This authority was exercised liberally and the resulting tuition cost burdens have been passed onto Texan families3. When regulation over tuition was under the authority of the legislature, elected officials were mindful of the concerns of their student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before 2003, Texas tuition ranked above the national average for tuition rates, but during 2003, after (HB) 3015 took effect, there was a dramatic rise in tuition prices which marked a significant departure from the tuition prices of the previous years. This rapid rate of increase in tuition has been difficult for middle and lower class students to adjust to. Increasingly, students are forced to find alternate means to finance their education. Unfortunately, even though tuition funding from the state has improved in recent years, with the unprecedented rise in costs of tuition burdening students, state funding has become inadequate to compensate for the increased costs. A graph from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, shows that the cost of attendance has risen substantially higher than the aggregate financial aid funds. The impact of tuition increase has made higher education an unaffordable luxury to many financially disadvantaged citizens, the result of which will have widespread consequences for students and Texas as a whole. Impact on Students The impact of higher tuition rates on students has been significant in that the burden of paying for college has fallen increasingly on them. Furthermore, it is not only the cost of tuition that is rising. Students are also faced with rising costs of housing, textbooks, and other essential expenses associated with attending college. • 58. Out Of State Tuition Out of state tuition shouldn't limit people who seek a better education. When looking for collages to go to people tend to stay in state because the cost is cheaper. What is the actual tax dollars that go to the in state students? Schools collage shouldn't be limited to just your state based on cost but it should be something you chose based on how good the school is. To fix this problem you could either have a universal tax that gives money to all schools in America this way schools have to give everyone who wants to go to their school pay the same cost. The other idea I have to fix this problem is to use the money the schools get already and have everyone take a cut this would increase instate tuition but also eliminate out of state tuition. ... But not all of us are the next Einstein or Coble Bryant. And for those individuals there are options for them. But for us the few that are trying to strive for improvement for those that have yet to prove the worth in this world can there more scholarships that can be won by us students who are not the best of the best but want to learn. Cheaper tuition, more school scholarships, easier scholarships, and my personal favorite grants are ways we can make education more affordable to the average college student. I just wish that we dint live in a world where just the clearly successful make it easy. but for those like us who have to pay full price it hurts, but hopefully collages will eventually give up on go out of their way to help stunts go to their schools whether that be a lower the price or giving more scholarships to the regular ... Lowering Tuition at Iowa State University Essays Lowering Tuition at Iowa State University The Background of the Costs of Tuition at Iowa State University Iowa State University is a land grant school which, among other things, means that the university gets money from the state of Iowa from the taxes that residents pay to the state. Because of this in state residents who choose to go to the university do not have to pay a large amount of money while out–of–state residents have to pay almost twice as much. Iowa State University does not have reciprocity, meaning that even residents from the surrounding states, Minnesota, Illinois, etc., have to pay full out–of–state tuition. The students that come to Iowa State are not all Iowa residents. The out–of–state residents are the ones who have to pay a great deal of money to attend the university. These students should not feel that many of the doors to the kind of education they would like have been shut in their face because of the amount of money it costs to attend many universities. To help solve many problems for out– of–state students, their tuition for attending Iowa State University should be set around $5000. By setting it at an amount that is only about $3000 less than the present out–of–state tuition it will make it much more affordable for the students and the University will not lose money. Needs for Changing the Tuition at ISU The needs for the decrease in out–of–state tuition at the university can be seen in several areas, such as the community diversity, availability of education to all, and the income based discrimination of students. Iowa State university does not have a very diverse community. During the 1998–1999 school year 78.8 percent of the total population at Iowa State University was of Iowa residency. Many of the Iowa residents are from the surrounding area of Ames, IA, where Iowa State is located. The issue of abandoned or underpopulated areas is more drastic than it seems like. If authorities will not take any action, these places do not stand a chance to develop anytime soon. Which will result in places with a fully developed economy like California, Colorado, and New York to become overpopulated and unable to provide jobs for all (Fox 8). One of the ways to deal with this issue is to follow the example of Bulgarian policy by not only promotion of underdeveloped areas' resources but also to target them towards different groups divided by interest and qualification. For example, many of the economically underdeveloped states have land that can be used for farming, factories that have been closed as a result of inflation and bankruptcy. By promoting education targeted for the jobs in these fields–especially if the tuition fee policy takes place– more people would prefer it over the unemployment or poor living conditions.
